They recount the persistent work of historical figures like Mildred Lewis Rutherford in influencing school curriculums to perpetuate biased histories. The conversation touches on the frustrations and professional insights of both hosts as they connect these historical trends to current events and policies, highlighting the enduring impact on today's education. Send us a textAre you stuck in the endless cycle of trying to find the perfect niche, create a stunning website, and develop a flawless business strategy before you feel ready to coach? It's time to break free from this trap. After guiding thousands of coaches through the early stages of their journey, we've discovered a powerful truth: the very things most coaches obsess over—niches, websites, business plans—are often the exact things holding them back from making the impact they're meant to make. This obsession with strategy isn't about confusion; it's about fear. Fear of being seen, fear of failing, fear of not being good enough. The transformational shift happens when you realize that you don't become a coach by building a website; you become a coach by coaching. When you focus on what we call the "Three S's of Starting"—Service (practicing coaching through free conversations), Showing Up (creating visibility), and Specialty (speaking to real pain points)—everything changes. Your confidence grows with each person you help, and suddenly, the path forward becomes clear. What's particularly fascinating is how your specialty or niche emerges organically from the work itself. As you coach more people, you'll notice patterns in who gravitates toward you and what problems you're especially adept at solving. This organic discovery is far more powerful and authentic than trying to force yourself into some predetermined box based on market research.Ready to stop overthinking and start coaching? Our mini action plan will get you moving: message three people offering coaching, go live offering free clarity sessions, and record a video sharing your core message. Because remember, clarity doesn't come before action—it comes from action. What's really holding you back? And what impact could you make if you started today?Subscribe now and join a community of coaches who are done with perfectionism and ready to make their unique impact on the world.Want a personalized strategy session for free? In this episode, we sit down with therapist Britt Frank to discuss the intention action gap, the psychological term for the chasm between what you very much intend to do and what you tend to do instead. It turns out, there's a well-researched psychological framework that includes a term for when you have a stated, known goal – a change you'd like to make in your life – something you wake up intending to finally do or get started doing, but then don't do while knowing full well you are actively not doing what you ought and wish you had done by now. After we discuss this phenomenon and how to deal with it, we get into procrastination and how to escape all manner of dead-end behavioral loops. Late Friday afternoon, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced that she would be initiating criminal proceedings related to the long-standing investigation into Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. In a brief but pointed statement to the press, Gabbard emphasized that new evidence had emerged, warranting formal charges against individuals suspected of undermining the integrity of the American democratic process. She stated that the intelligence community had "exhausted all avenues of investigation" and was now prepared to hold accountable those believed to have coordinated or facilitated foreign influence operations during the pivotal election year. In this episode, Steve Fretzin and David Schnurman discuss:Building a resilient mindset through optimism, reflection, and habit formationLessons from career pivots and entrepreneurial problem-solving in the legal spaceCultivating emotional regulation through gratitude, compassion, and non-judgmentEmbracing technology and AI to repurpose content and increase professional impact Key Takeaways:Journaling and identifying recurring mindset blocks can help lawyers recognize patterns of imposter syndrome and emotional burnout, giving them the self-awareness and clarity needed to shift their thinking and take purposeful steps toward resilience. When faced with the sudden loss or burnout of a critical team member, initiating an honest, values-based conversation centered on purpose, mutual respect, and long-term impact can be the difference between salvaging a project or watching it collapse.Implementing a simple but consistent daily practice of writing down three gratitudes, avoiding all outward complaints for 21 days, and giving five genuine compliments can rewire your stress response and gradually create a more positive, grounded internal state.Delaying your instinct to judge setbacks as inherently negative by using the mantra “good thing, bad thing, who knows” allows you to stay emotionally balanced, maintain perspective, and remain open to positive outcomes that may not be immediately visible. Elevating Songwriters in Music City… In the heart of Music City, a groundbreaking network of nearly 400 songwriters, known as Livin' The Write Life, is redefining collaboration and success in the music industry. Founded by songwriter Michael "Cef" Cefaratti, this vibrant "tribe" is dedicated to empowering its members and disrupting the traditional music publishing model. A Network Built on Mutual Support and Strength in Numbers Livin' The Write Life operates on the core belief that "your net worth is your network." Songwriter Cody Kelley emphasizes this ethos, stating, "We show up for each other, to prove there's strength in numbers." This collaborative spirit is evident in their consistent support for each other's performances, from showcases and writer's nights to "in-the-rounds." The network leverages the diverse skills and backgrounds of its members to benefit everyone, whether it's bargaining for studio time or securing airplay. Addressing Industry Challenges and Fostering New Talent Cefaratti highlights a critical issue in today's music landscape: the domination of a few major publishing houses. "It's near impossible for an unsigned writer to get a listen – much less a cut, today," he explains, "meaning the industry, not the artist, decides what music you hear." Livin' The Write Life aims to counteract this by building a comprehensive in-house service complement for its members, including publishing, song pitching/placement, a record label, and career management for aspiring artists. The network is uniquely structured around the needs of working songwriters, many of whom balance regular jobs with their passion. This flexibility ensures that "everybody has a chance to be heard and to write with other songwriters in our tribe." They celebrate successes, offer support during challenges, and transform these experiences into relatable, authentic songs. Cultivating Tomorrow's Sound Livin' The Write Life is focused on shaping the future of music. Kelley points out that "the songs on the radio right now were written at least 2 years ago... That songwriting style may not be popular 2 years from now." The tribe encourages its writers to break free from formulas and rules, allowing songs to evolve naturally. This forward-thinking approach is leading to the creation of "genre-less" music that transcends traditional boundaries of country, pop, and rock, preparing for an anticipated shift in the industry. Adysen Malek, a new songwriter in Music City, quickly found her place within Livin' The Write Life. She credits the tribe with helping her improve her craft in a supportive, non-competitive environment, stating, "None of us improves or succeeds, we all benefit and celebrate." Connect with Livin' The Write Life To discover upcoming writer showcases and connect with this innovative network of songwriters, visit the Livin' The Write Life Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/livi... /> Artists and producers interested in collaborating can also schedule private listening appointments directly through their Instagram page. ABOUT LIVIN' THE WRITE LIFE: Nashville's New Model for Songwriting & Publishing Livin' The Write Life is emerging as a groundbreaking force in Nashville's music scene, redefining the landscape for independent songwriters and performers. This innovative network, founded by songwriter and entrepreneur Michael "Cef" Cefaratti, comprises nearly 400 affiliated individuals who collectively form a powerful "tribe." Empowering Independent Songwriters through Community and Opportunity At its core, Livin' The Write Life operates on an "everyone's welcome at the table" philosophy, providing crucial opportunities for aspiring songwriters. Through its limited Open Mic events, the organization offers a platform for new voices to be heard. The most promising talents are invited to join the exclusive "tribe," gaining access to high-profile exposure at renowned Writer's Nights and Showcases throughout Nashville. A Collective Approach to Success in Music City Livin' The Write Life is more than just a network; it's a supportive community where collaboration fuels collective success. By bringing together a large and diverse group of independent creatives, the organization aims to empower its members in an industry often dominated by major labels. This collective strength provides avenues for song pitching, publishing, and career development that might otherwise be out of reach for individual songwriters.
