Raw, unfiltered, and occasionally uncomfortable—this episode delivers the candid police perspectives you won't hear anywhere else. Our panel of current and former law enforcement officers analyzes viral police videos, from high-speed pursuits ending in fatal shootings to controversial First Amendment audits, all while exposing the complex realities behind the badge. When a yellow Corvette flees from an unmarked police car, our hosts debate the merits and dangers of such pursuits. "I'm not a fan of using undercover vehicles in a chase," one host explains, highlighting heightened liability and reduced visibility that endangers everyone involved. The pursuit ended with the suspect's death, leading to a deeper discussion about split-second decisions in life-or-death scenarios. Most compelling is our panel's disagreement over a controversial police shooting on private property. "I'm going to put my foot down on this one. Bad shoot," declares one host, while others explore the constitutional nuances of property rights versus officer safety. When another host reveals the suspect wasn't charged with any crime afterward, the panel concludes officers likely created the very exigency they responded to—a rare moment of police professionals acknowledging a wrongful shooting. The episode takes a lighter turn analyzing a First Amendment audit video, with hosts laughing at officers' rigid responses while offering practical advice: "Just do your stuff, relax. They're not doing anything." This segment showcases our hosts' commitment to improving police-community relations through better training and tactics.Throughout this episode, our panel maintains refreshing honesty about law enforcement strengths and weaknesses—criticizing improper tactics while explaining the challenges officers face daily. Join us for this no-holds-barred discussion that challenges stereotypes about the "thin blue line" while offering genuine perspectives from those who've walked the beat.Dive deeper into these conversations on our growing Discord community, where you'll find additional content and direct access to our hosts.❤️Join our Discord!! What happens when a prophet tells you to become an auctioneer? For Yvette Vanderbrink, it launched a 25-year career specializing in automotive barn finds and collections. Her extraordinary journey from hospital worker to renowned auctioneer began when a minister at her church mysteriously knew about auction school application papers she'd hidden in her kitchen cupboard.Yvette shares the struggles and triumphs of breaking into the male-dominated auction world, including how she handled sexist comments and established her reputation through innovative marketing. When one man told her to "make a sandwich and let the boys do it," she simply took his bidding number away. Her pioneering use of early internet technology helped attract national bidders when such practices were revolutionary. The conversation reveals fascinating insights into the world of automotive collections and auctions, including why Montana ranchers maintain their own fire trucks (the nearest fire station is often over an hour away), and the challenges of conducting a 604-vehicle auction across remote locations with no cell service or electricity. Yvette's passion for connecting collectors with rare finds shines through as she discusses upcoming auctions and her own recent acquisition—a cherished 1963 Bel Air she finally convinced her father to part with.Don Armstrong also shares his surprisingly positive experience with the 2025 Kia Niro hybrid, achieving 43.7 mpg during real-world testing. With attractive styling, user-friendly controls, and a competitive starting price of $26,990, the Niro proves that practical, fuel-efficient vehicles can still deliver an enjoyable driving experience for city dwellers. The episode wraps with Jeff's "Motor Minute" highlighting an unusual legal case involving two 1962 Corvettes with identical VIN numbers—a cautionary tale for classic car collectors.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. This could easily be the most over-caffeinated, under-medicated mountain bike podshow you'll ever subject your earholes to. Not a podcast—a “podshow”—because adding “show” makes everything about 17% more questionable. Welcome to Gnar Couch, where the only thing more inflated than our egos is our caffeine intake, and the only thing more shredded than our bikes are our self-images. Tonight, we brought in DJ Brandt—your favorite rider's favorite wildcard—just to see if we could make the art of the mountain bike interview as awkwardly sweaty and weird as possible. This week's podshow spiral dives helmet-first into three core themes: the existential crisis of being a professional freerider in an industry run by desk jockeys who think a “manual” is something you create in Word to guide marketing efforts, the painful evolution of mountain bike culture from “gnarly misfit circus” to “influencer hellscape,” and why the only thing more unstable than the bike industry is JP's and the Jerk Hand's digestive systems after six glizzies chased with six cups of gas station coffee. Sprinkle in debates about corporate buyouts, a discussion about how Pinkbike really was cool at one time, and our relentless need to grill and mother everyone within a 40-foot radius, and you've got yourself an audio experience that makes you wonder where the adult supervision went. So buckle up—preferably in your daily driver Corvette or whatever heap you wrench on to avoid facing your feelings. Whether you're here for the tales of bike park glory, the communal hate for TikTok “riders,” or just to hear DJ Brandt contemplate welding versus wildcarding, this podshow is the least productive thing you'll do with your day—and probably the best. The ripple effects of Trump's tariffs are sending shockwaves through luxury car dealerships across America, upending a market that remained resilient even during the pandemic and chip shortages. When customers start canceling orders for $750,000 Lamborghinis rather than pay an additional $75,000 in tariffs, something significant is happening. What makes this story particularly compelling is the human element behind the headline numbers. While wealthy buyers can simply walk away from these purchases, dealership employees - from mechanics to salespeople - face the real consequences. One luxury dealer reports earnings down 70-90% compared to previous years, forcing painful business decisions that affect ordinary working people. The tariff situation has evolved rapidly. European vehicle duties jumped from 2.5% to 25% in April, with British automakers receiving some relief at 10% starting June 30th. The European Union now faces a potential 30% tariff beginning August 1st if new trade agreements aren't reached. This uncertainty has created havoc in a marketplace where exclusivity and predictability typically reign supreme.Meanwhile, Ford continues experiencing quality control challenges, leading the auto industry with 89 recalls issued so far in 2025. Their latest action affects nearly 700,000 crossovers with fuel leak issues at a cost of approximately $570 million - a reminder that even domestic manufacturers face significant challenges in today's complex automotive landscape. For enthusiasts seeking alternatives to both new car headaches and ultra-luxury prices, the classic car market offers intriguing options. Iconic 1960s vehicles like Corvettes, Buick Electras, and Pontiac Grand Prix models are selling for reasonable prices between $15,000-$25,000, providing automotive joy without the financial and political complications of today's new car market.Want to join the conversation? In this episode of Our Uncommon Life, we're talking about the part of adulthood no one glamorizes—random body aches, needing two days to recover from a boozy brunch, and making decisions like… do we sell the Corvette? We're sharing the real (and sometimes ridiculous) ways getting older shows up—from our bodies demanding more rest and recovery, to making practical financial choices that support our long-term goals. Think landscaping projects, installing a water softener, rethinking investments, and yes—Zac's surprisingly emotional decision to part ways with his Corvette. As a married entrepreneurial couple, we reflect on how aging changes everything: how we take care of ourselves, how we spend our money, and how we continue building a life—and businesses—that support the version of us we're growing into.Topics we cover:Mysterious aches, pains, and “what did I even do yesterday?” momentsThe reality of recovery after a day-drinking girls' brunchMaking grown-up money moves: landscaping, home maintenance, investmentsZac's thoughts on selling the Corvette (yes, it's a whole thing)Navigating marriage and business in midlife with intention and humor
Buckle up for a journey into the heart of authentic car culture with our exploration of Rats on the Platte, a rebellious celebration of automotive passion that thrives far from the polished showcases of mainstream car events. Speaking with organizers Jake Donahoe and Paula Sanada, we discover what makes this annual gathering in Mitchell, Nebraska a must-visit for true gearheads and automotive misfits. This isn't your typical car show – it's a raw, community-driven event where creativity and character trump cleanliness and conformity. As Paula colorfully explains, "This isn't some shiny Corvette lawn chair circle where judged means who brought the cleanest wax rag." Instead, Rats on the Platte celebrates builders, dreamers, wrenchers, and fabricators who create machines worth noticing without seeking validation. The two-day event features dirt track racing in a rodeo arena, a concrete burnout pad with bleachers, swap meets, and the intriguing "Mistresses of Mayhem" – pinup models who add vintage flair to the proceedings. What makes this gathering special is the "drive what you build" philosophy, with many participants traveling cross-country in their custom creations rather than trailering them. With affordable registration ($35 pre-show) and on-site camping available, the event creates an immersive experience for automotive enthusiasts of all stripes.Shifting gears, we take you behind the wheel of the 2024 Land Rover Defender, a boxy, distinctive SUV that blends off-road capability with modern luxury. Starting at $56,400 and climbing well into six figures for premium trims, the Defender delivers impressive performance with its available inline-six engine producing 395 horsepower. It feels substantial and solid – "the doors shut like an old Norge refrigerator" – combining British design sensibilities with serious off-road credentials.Whether you're drawn to the rebellious spirit of grassroots car culture or the refined capability of modern adventure vehicles, this episode captures the diversity and passion that drives automotive enthusiasm. They dive into the geopolitical and fiscal catalysts behind copper and rare earths—including Trump's new 50% tariff on imported copper and a $10B Department of Defense deal with MP Materials. Gerardo and Jody both stress the significance of guaranteed pricing and long-term offtake agreements to fund North America's critical mineral renaissance. Expect this to spark an arms race in strategic metal supply chains—with Canada likely to benefit.Market Takes - The discussion turns to specific metals and how they're reacting to macro shifts. Cesium, gallium, and tantalum—largely overlooked—are positioned as game-changers, especially with Patriot Battery Metals' Corvette deposit potentially hosting the highest concentration of these metals ever found in one location. Lithium stocks are rebounding hard after being crushed, and Jody makes the case that we've already seen the bottom. Gold is “only in the 4th inning,” silver just broke out above $37, and platinum group metals are seeing their biggest monthly moves in decades.Bizarro Banter - Gerardo calls silver the “mistress” and gold the “wife” in a riff about investor psychology. Jody compares Patriot's cesium potential to a uranium deposit in terms of value density and scarcity. They both emphasize the importance of reassaying historic drill core for overlooked metals—a move that could unlock entirely new asset classes. Talk turns to solar panels, energy storage, and EVs—arguing that Patriot's cesium could revolutionize the solar industry via perovskite tech. They wrap with thoughts on grid independence, battery tech, and how U.S.-Canada cooperation could trigger the next lithium boom.Premium Portfolio Picks - For paid listeners only. Step into the fascinating world of automotive treasures as we journey through the Savoy Automobile Museum in Cartersville, Georgia. Museum representative Mary Agrusa takes us on a captivating tour through their remarkable barn finds collection, where each vehicle tells an extraordinary story of discovery and preservation. From a GT350 Mustang with deliberately preserved deteriorating paint to the one-of-a-kind 1949 Packard Monte Carlo convertible built by Henney, these automotive time capsules reveal the passionate dedication of collectors and restorers. The museum's fiberglass car collection offers another dimension of automotive history, showcasing rare and one-off vehicles that represent the DIY spirit of enthusiasts who once ordered kit cars from the back pages of automotive magazines. The Novetta stands as a testament to dedication, taking its owner 20 years to complete by piecing together parts from various sources, including Mini Cooper hinges and other creative solutions. We dive into automotive styling history with Jeff's Car Culture segment on vinyl roofs – that distinctive styling trend from the 1960s through the early 1990s that gave fixed-roof cars a convertible-like appearance. While once the height of automotive fashion adorning everything from muscle cars to Corvettes, vinyl tops are now often considered problematic during restorations, trapping moisture and accelerating rust underneath their fashionable exterior.Bringing us to the present day, our comprehensive review of the 2025 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate reveals why this luxury SUV commands attention. With its 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8, distinctive baseball stitching interior, and comprehensive technology package including second-row entertainment screens, this $107,285 top-tier model represents the sweet spot between the Chevrolet Suburban and Cadillac Escalade.Discover more automotive insights and adventures by subscribing to our podcast or joining us for our live show every Saturday morning from 8-11am central. Why This Episode Is a Must-Listen Are classic cars just vintage machines, or rolling works of art? And are they a smart investment for the future? In "Classic Car Restorations: Reviving Automotive Legends," the Inspired Money panel explores how restoring classic cars is about passion, heritage, and innovation. Whether you're an investor, enthusiast, or simply curious about the intersection of culture and craftsmanship, this episode delivers powerful insights that will change the way you see collectible cars. Meet the Expert Panelists Matt DeLorenzo is a veteran automotive journalist and author with over 40 years of experience, having served as editor-in-chief at Road & Track and Autoweek, and as a senior editor at Automotive News and Kelley Blue Book. A founding juror of the North American Car of the Year awards, he has authored multiple books on iconic American vehicles, from the Corvette to the Dodge brand legacy. His next book, "Mercedes-AMG: Race-bred Performance" will go on sale this November. https://tightwadgarage.com Rupert Banner is a Senior Specialist at Gooding Christie's, bringing over 30 years of experience in the collector car auction industry, including senior roles at Bonhams, Christie's, and Sotheby's. Renowned for his global expertise, record-setting sales, and deep ties to the automotive community, he is a trusted authority on valuation, provenance, and the evolving international classic car market. https://www.goodingco.com Tamara Warren is the founder and CEO of Le Car, a Techstars-backed mobility platform and award-winning automotive journalist whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Car and Driver, Rolling Stone, and over 160 publications. A former transportation editor at The Verge and juror for World Car of the Year, she blends deep industry insight with cultural storytelling, sustainability advocacy, and a passion for automotive design and innovation. https://www.tamarawarren.com William Heynes is the founder of William Heynes Ltd, a world-renowned Jaguar preservation and restoration firm dedicated to early E-Types and rooted in the legacy of his grandfather, Bill Heynes, Jaguar's legendary Chief Engineer behind the iconic XK engine and Le Mans victories. Combining deep mechanical knowledge, period-correct craftsmanship, and a passion for originality, William leads a team committed to restoring Jaguar's most historic cars to concours-level authenticity. https://williamheynes.com Key Highlights: Restorations: Craft, Preservation, or Investment? William Heynes shared how true restoration is “about building the car for what it deserves,” not just tailoring it to the owner's preferences. At his shop, the ultimate goal is authenticity. Sometimes a restoration can involve thousands of hours and years to achieve original perfection. Market Trends and Smart Collecting Rupert Banner demystified current auction markets, noting a shift toward modern collectibles and younger buyers. He stresses the value of detailed provenance and emphasizes: “There is so much more value in just owning something and enjoying it... the car may be a conduit to new opportunities, relationships, and experiences.” Cars as a Reflection of Identity and Community Tamara Warren explored how classic cars are powerful symbols of personal legacy and social connection. "To be a collector is actually to be a steward of a legacy," she noted, highlighting the responsibility and joy of carrying forward the story of each car, brand, and community. The Future: Innovation Meets Heritage Matt DeLorenzo and the panel tackled the balance between preservation and modernization, think EV conversions, restomods, and the ethics of “continuation” models. As Matt put it: “Even if there's the rise of the self-driving car, people look at automobiles as a form of recreation... it's a lifestyle, it's a community that's not going to go anywhere.” Call-to-Action Here's your one assignment for the week: Find a car that has personal meaning to you, whether it's a car you grew up with, saw in a movie, or admired from afar, and dig into its story. Look it up, read about it, maybe even check the market. You might discover a connection that turns into a future project, or at the very least, a deeper appreciation for what makes these vehicles legendary. Dale Earnhardt Jr. relives the 2001 24 Hours of Daytona as he sits down with Andy Pilgrim, Kelly Collins and Doug Fehan. As the Corvette racing program began to take shape in the early 2000s, Dale Jr. and his father Dale Earnhardt turned the racing world on its side by taking part in the crown jewel sports car event. Doug and Andy explain that the partnership actually formulated a year earlier when the team won the Petit Le Mans. Dale Sr. wrote Andy a letter congratulating him on the win and his impressive pass to do so, while expressing interest in teaming up. Corvette reached out through Gary Claudio, who had experience working with NASCAR through Pontiac's program and the deal was set for the 2001 running at Daytona. The guys recount the testing sessions at Sebring and Daytona leading up to the race and help paint a picture of Dale Sr. that listeners may be unfamiliar with. Dale Jr. recalls crashing the car immediately in his first session, as he set out to run it like his stock car. He explains that the tires needed a gradual warm up instead of a quick onset like he was used to, and it caught him off guard. Dale Sr. was all in on the experience and insisted on being involved in every meeting and decision surrounding the partnership. Dale Jr. shares a story about practicing driver swaps with his father during a NASCAR Cup weekend to help prepare them for their upcoming sports car debut. The interview also breaks down the race weekend, the plans to continue on with Corvette in the future and what the teammates have been up to in the years that followed.
