Turns out, South Park may have been right when they joked about chinpokomon being used to brainwash people and control them. Pokemon Go from its inception was a data gathering AR game that freaked out governments. Western governments in particularly have been accused of its use to spy on others, including the most recent accusations made by Belarus. Whereas Google has externally mapped the world, Niantic, the company behind the game, is mapping the internal world. In fact, they recently announced that the game was being used to develop a LGM, or Large Geospatial Model of the world, something Samsung said would be workable with holograms, XR, and digital replicas by 2030. With all this real world data, and real digital scans of the real world, behaviors can not only be predicted, but psychological nudging can be replaced or added too with technological nudging of behavior. Tani Cantil-Sakauye, former Chief Justice of California Supreme Court for 11 years, and current President of the Public Policy Institute of California, was interviewed by Joanne Z. Tan, host and producer of "Interviews of Notables and Influencers" of 10 Plus Podcast on June 24, 2024. Around 22 questions and answers are presented in three parts: Part One: Tani's journey, lessons learned, and insights from being the Chief Justice on the highest court in California;  Part 2: California's economy and future; Part 3: Election reform, federalism, and democracy.   –  Please SHARE it! Thank you. To read as a blog (coming soon) To watch as a video (Introduction of the Host of this Podcast:) Before I have the GREAT honor to introduce Tani Cantil-Sakauye, let me briefly introduce myself. I am Joanne Tan, host and producer of the 10 Plus Podcast, “Interviews of Notables and Influencers”.  I am the CEO of 10 Plus Brand, Inc. — a brand-building and brand-marketing agency for companies and leaders. Growing brands - business or personal - is my passion. I also have a law degree and I career-coach attorneys and executives, and manage brands of board members, leadership coaches, and consultants. I have lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area for 36 years. It was in San Francisco that I became a US citizen almost 30 years ago. I care deeply about my home state and our country whose ideals and values inspired me to leave everything behind in China 42 years ago. I'd like to give back to my beloved California and America.  (Introducing Tani Cantil-Sakauye:) Tani Cantil-Sakauye was the former Chief Justice of California Supreme Court for 11 years. Currently, she is the president and CEO of the Public Policy Institute of California (“PPIC”) where she holds the Walter and Esther Hewlett Chair in Understanding California's Future. One of the founders of PPIC was Walter Hewlett, also one of the founders of Hewlett Packard.  PPIC provides data-based research to the state legislature to help make better policies for all Californians. California legislators and executive officials do listen to Tani and PPIC. From 2011 to 2022, Tani served as the 28th Chief Justice of California, and led the judiciary as the chair of the Judicial Council—the constitutional policy and rule making body of the judicial branch—the first person of color and the second woman to do so. Before she was elected statewide as the Chief Justice of California, she served more than 20 years on California appellate and trial courts and was appointed or elevated to higher office by three governors. Earlier in her career she served as a deputy District Attorney for the Sacramento DA Office, and on the senior staff of Governor Deukmejian as legal affairs and legislative deputy secretary. https://www.ppic.org/person/tani-cantil-sakauye/ Disclaimer: I take a completely non-partisan approach to economic policy, election reform, and judicial issues. All my questions here are issue-based, not through the lens of politics or political partisanship, even though I regard myself as a centrist Democrat. Part 1 Questions: Tani's personal journey, lessons learned and insights as former Chief Justice of CA Supreme Court (1) Q: How did you choose your path? What were your challenges and satisfactions as a California Supreme Court Chief Justice? What lessons would you like to share with us from serving on the state Supreme Court? (2) Q: As a role model, raised in a non-privileged background, what qualities and mindset are the most important for your achievements and continued growth? What wisdom can you share with people of all backgrounds? (3) Facts or Opinions? - Critical Thinking and Human Intelligence Are Needed to Process Information and Decipher Facts from Media, Social Media, AI (4) Q: As a personal branding expert and a business brand builder, I ask all my honored guests this question: What does your brand stand for?   (5) Q: Are you considering running for any office in the future?    Part 2 Questions: California's Economy and Future (6) Q: About AI and regulations. AI is being widely adopted across many industries globally, and is playing a significant role in reducing costs and increasing productivity. (https://www.mckinsey.com/capabilities/quantumblack/our-insights/the-state-of-ai)  But at the same time, AI is making fake information, disinformation, as well as its distribution a lot easier, faster, and with more impact (based on the Economist Magazine in May 2024 featured two articles: “Fighting disinformation gets harder, just when it matters most”, while “Producing fake information is getting easier” (https://www.economist.com/science-and-technology/2024/05/01/fighting-disinformation-gets-harder-just-when-it-matters-most?utm_campaign=r.science-newsletter&utm_medium=email.internal-newsletter.np&utm_source=salesforce-marketing-cloud&utm_term=5/1/2024&utm_id=1877854 (https://www.economist.com/science-and-technology/2024/05/01/producing-fake-information-is-getting-easier?utm_campaign=r.science-newsletter&utm_medium=email.internal-newsletter.np&utm_source=salesforce-marketing-cloud&utm_term=5/1/2024&utm_id=1877854) What is the legislative balance between controlling the harm from AI generated or facilitated false information, and not killing the golden goose of AI technology? (7) Q: California's aging population: What are the anticipated consequences, and how are we going to tackle the issue? Can AI offset the shrinking productive population, since AI increases productivity and decreases labor cost? (8) Q: Related or unrelated to the aging population issue, do border-crossing, undocumented immigrants actually help with the labor shortage? Is it also related to political advantage, i.e. the number of congressional seats are based on the census?  What will California do with the border crossing issue?  (9) Q: Insurance:  Many insurance companies for residential homes have left California. The lack of competition has resulted in much higher premiums for all Californians. What can be done about it? (10) Q: High housing cost for Californians and exodus to other states: Californian families are leaving for other states where housing and living expenses are lower. What are the ramifications for the mid and long term California economy? Does it lead to brain drain?  (11) Q: Homelessness and the implementation of Prop. 1: What improvement have we seen? How can the implementation be improved? Who is accountable?  (12) Q: Increase of minimum wage for California fast food workers and the ripple effects: A Bloomberg article on April 16, 2024 pointed out the impact of California minimum wage hike for fast food workers on prolonging inflation and delaying the Fed's rate cut.  Now, California consumers have to pay more for fast food because the increased wage was passed down to the buyers, and most of the fast food consumers are not well off. Is it a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul? Does this well-intended law result in delayed inflation recovery for everyone? Is legislation interfering with the free market? https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-04-16/how-california-s-huge-raises-for-fast-food-workers-will-ripple-across-industries (13) Q: The high cost of doing business in California creates an exodus of businesses to other states. Many are leaving due to pro-labor legislation that burdens employers. What can the state legislature do to keep the cost down for businesses? (14) Q: What does the state government need to do to keep tech giants like Google, Apple, Nvidia and others in Silicon Valley? (15) Q: Budget deficits and tax increases: In the tech industry, there are fewer IPOs now, and less tax from capital gains for the government. (https://www.sfexaminer.com/news/technology/why-california-budget-problems-could-be-blamed-on-ipo-market/article_197ac9d8-0f24-11ef-9f28-5f7fe6820efc.html#:~:text=IPOs%20%E2%80%94%20the%20typical%20way%20startups,are%20taxed%20by%20the%20state.)  Budget deficits exist at both state and local levels.  The California Supreme Court will hear arguments on the legality of a ballot measure that would strip the Legislature and governor of the ability to increase taxes (The Los Angeles Times reports). Tax increases will further the exodus of companies and Californians out of California. Are there any other options for dealing with budget deficits? (16) Q: Bullet trains:  Are they ever going to be completed, after three decades? ( - The Economist's article, May 17, 2024: https://www.economist.com/united-states/2024/05/16/the-worlds-slowest-bullet-train-trundles-ahead-in-california (17) Q: Drought and water shortage due to global warming: Governor Newsom was talking about building reservoirs. What can we do to make it happen, hopefully not in three decades since global warming might turn California into a desert in 30 years without us taking actions NOW? Part 3 Questions: Federal election reform; Term Limits, SCOTUS Ethics Rules, Republic Democracy, Politics (18) Q: Rank Choice Voting:  It has been advocated by some very intelligent Harvard professors and political consultants. Rank Choice Voting is already used in some gubernatorial and mayoral elections, can it be used in primaries for presidential elections? (As advocated in the book The Politics Industry: How Political Innovation Can Break Partisan Gridlock and Save Our Democracy, by Katherine Gehl and Michael Porter, a Harvard Business School professor.) (19) Q: Term Limits for US Supreme Court Justices: Stanford Professors Larry Diamond and other highly respected voices recommend term limits for SCOTUS, which is gaining traction widely in the US.  Some suggested the term limit to be at age 75, or three terms of six years, and the fourth term is up to six years.  Stanford Professor Larry Diamond in his book “Ill Winds” suggests limiting every SCOTUS' term to 18 years. What do you think? (20) Ethic rules for SCOTUSES:  In light of the revelations about accepting lavish gifts for decades by the US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, do you think Congress needs to make ENFORCEABLE ethics rules that will hold SCOTUSES liable, since no one is above the law? If any of the SCOTUSES violate them, who should enforce the rules, and what would be the punishment? (21) Q: Regarding the principles of federalism, state power, and our republic. This may be a loaded question, but I think we all want to hear from your perspective. The United States was founded on the principle of a republic consisting of independent states, where federal laws and state laws are independent and separate. This question is not meant to be political (I know that your political party affiliation is independent, and I respect that) . I'd like to use the current conviction of former President Donald Trump by New York State Court to learn about federal court limitations and potential over-reach.  Federalism, checks and balances: Assume this scenario: IF the US Supreme Court rules that a sitting president has Absolute Immunity, (which sounds like the power of a king), and further rules that the New York conviction must be retried, vacated, or even overruled, on the ground that the falsification of business records under New York Law is related to the FEDERAL election, even though the illegal act related to federal election deprived citizens their right to be informed, which is a FEDERAL crime, will the federal Absolute Immunity override New York state law, under the Supremacy Clause (since Trump wrote the check to reimburse the hush money after inauguration, presumably under Absolute Immunity protection)?  If the US Supreme Court indeed rules as such, what are the ramifications, in your opinion, for our foundational principles of independent state and federal judiciaries? Would that be an overreach by the federal judicial branch? What harm would Absolute Immunity do to the checks and balances of our government? Same scenario, same questions, but with Limited Immunity instead of Absolute Immunity. (22) Q: About civility, the prerequisite for democracy. The vitriol, the hatred, the partisanship, the mutual blaming... All of these are eating America up from inside. What do you think each citizen should do, to restore civility, respect for institutions, public office, healthy debates, and save our democracy?   –  Please SHARE it! Thank you. The new edition of The Economist Magazine features a photo of an Israeli flag, blowing in the wind…all alone. The cover title of this issue's editorial is just that — “Israel Alone”. The editorial reads: “Today Israel has destroyed perhaps half of Hamas's forces. But in important ways its mission has failed. “As estrangement from the West deepens, so deterrence may weaken. Firms could be blacklisted. Bosses could move high-tech businesses abroad or, if they are reservists, be arrested there.” But is Israel actually alone? This is what we unpack today during our regular check-in with Haviv Rettig Gur. And in the first part of the conversation, we wound up discussing why the criticism of Israel today looks almost identical to criticism of Israel in previous wars, regardless of which politicians are leading Israel.

Economists study the way the production and distribution of goods, products, and services affects the free. Conscious and modern economists are now applying this financial analysis to global warming and the effect on climate change. Economist Laurence "Larry" Kotlikoff has written, spoken, and advocated for the climate for most of his career, including in front of U.S. Congress. Ranked as one of the top 25 World's Most Influential Economists by The Economist Magazine, Kotlikoff is well informed and well respected in his field.   Larry has an impressively long list of credentials as heard in his bio. He's written many articles and papers, and has co-authored research papers with other top economists. Topics of these articles, many of which can be found at the National Bureau of Economic Research, include carbon taxing, the Paris Accord, and other climate crisis topics.   In this episode, Larry discusses the generational solution of climate change, carbon taxation, the current War on Ukraine and it's economic impact. Larry suggests with energy prices far higher than we are accustomed to, we are currently experiencing what a price on carbon feels like, without the dividend.   For more from Larry Kotlikoff: Substack - https://larrykotlikoff.substack.com/ Book - Money Magic Upside Investing on Forbes MaxiFi Planner Kotlikoff's Website - Economic Security Planning Inc

Tom Duncan, Head of Research and Investment Strategy for Cromwell Property Group joins Bold Founder Caleb Parker for the seventh episode of Season 6 to discuss Tom's recent publication in Insight Magazine, titled ‘Office 2025: The Next Evolutionary Cycle'. The two discuss how office demand is changing, thus creating a gap between supply & demand, and an abundance of misaligned stock, and what this means for commercial real estate investors. Tom shares how this moment in the market can seem scary, but that office evolution is nothing new, and we're now entering the age of Space-as-a-Service.  Caleb gives a shout out to Samantha McClary for her article on Bold in EG. In 2009, Caleb co-founded a flexible workspace consulting firm where he brokered flexible workspace and advised businesses on agile working strategies.Caleb is one of the first licensed commercial real estate agents to speak on the flexible working trends and the rise of flexible workspace, and has been quoted in numerous publications. Timestamps [05:00] Tom gives a brief overview of Cromwell and the portfolio. Cromwell Property Group is an international investment manager with $8bn of assets split 50/50 between Europe and APAC. [06:00] What is the background on the research that led to the outcomes in the article ‘Office 2025: The Next Evolutionary Cycle'? The feature of the office was subject to such fierce debate in the industry and in the media more generally, they felt much of that debate was misinformed and subject to overly negative sentiment. Survey data shows that there are benefits for both employee and employer to utilising the office as a working environment.  Working patterns will change to accommodate office and home working, and where people end up working will be based on the tasks they need to complete.  There will be more incentivisation to get people back into the office. [11:00] Can you provide some context on the gap between supply and demand and where does Space-as-a-Service fit in? Employees and building occupiers now hold the power. Landlords should be viewing themselves as service providers to their customers, the occupiers, and this should lead to a physical evolution of the type of space that's provided.  [16:20] Your article quotes “[investors in real estate should] act with conviction to dispose of misalign stock and acquire product, which is, or can be aligned to future occupier demand”. Do Real Estate Investors not usually act with conviction? Real estate can be guilty of ‘herd mentality', meaning they follow the same patterns.  Acting with conviction might mean going against the grain or put themselves in an uncomfortable position based on the narrative at the time.  [18:40] What's your view on building from the ground up versus buying and repurpose? Much of the existing stock will need to be repositioned to make sure that it aligns with what occupiers of today want and occupies as tomorrow as well. Environmental factors mean it will be increasingly difficult to create new buildings from scratch, so repurposing an existing building will be much more environmentally friendly.  [23:30] How does Cromwell look at rolling out Space-as-a-Service across the portfolio? A tailored approach depending on offices, locations and market need.    [24:50] Quickfire round questions. Nothing is certain in this world except death and taxes. If this is true, then the comedian-cum-finance writer Dominic Frisby says it’s time we better understand the latter! He tells Tom Sutcliffe how taxes have shaped our past, are upsetting our present and could be the answer to changing our future. The economist Vicky Pryce also wants to change the future, by reforming capitalism so that it stops failing women. She interrogates the pay gap and glass ceiling. But she also argues that the free market is predicated on perpetuating inequality - and that it is women who bear the brunt. The free market economy was advanced during the Enlightenment. The academic Alexander Zevin explores how a century later economic liberalism became fused with political liberalism in Britain. And how the liberal message evolved through the pages of the Economist Magazine, founded in 1843. As BBC Radio 4’s Book at Bedtime prepares to read Voltaire’s satire Candide, Professor Judith Hawley looks back to the ideas that were fermenting at the time of the Enlightenment, and how optimism can quickly lead to disillusionment. Is the US headed into a recession or contraction in the economy? Confirmation Bias is when we force our views upon the macro data, and there is always something there. What are indicators of a recession? Humans are excellent data processors for the short term, we need indicators to watch for. It is necessary to identify what is actionable, but macro events in the Economist Magazine for example, can obscure our perspective, due to over coverage. A better strategy would be to step back and think less about the macro to give your brain time to catch up. Do you ever think about what your Google searches say about you? What can data tell us about issues in our society like racism, depression, child abuse, and our deepest fears and insecurities? Seth is the author of New York Times bestseller "Everybody Lies," which was published in 2017 and one of the Economist Magazine’s books of the year. The intense struggle at the top of the worldâ??s power structure will not end on November 8th no matter who wins the so-called US Presidential election, US agency sources say. However, there is strong likelihood the issue will be settled by January 20th, 2017 when the new President is supposed to formally assume the reins of power, they say. At the highest level, the battle is between the 13 bloodline families who have ruled the West for centuries, if not millennia and their age old opponents, the gnostic illuminati who are opposed to bloodline rule. The people behind Hillary Clinton are the bloodlines, who report ultimately to Baron Evelyn de Rothschild as well as to the old Italian aristocracy behind the P2 Freemason lodge. This can be confirmed by endorsements from bloodline controlled media such as the Economist Magazine owned by the Rothschilds and the P2 Agnelli brothers. It can also be confirmed by wikileaks e-mails showing Hillary Clinton is intimately subservient to Lynn Forest de Rothschild, who is the wife of Baron Rothschild. The main source of the bloodlinesâ?? power is their control of the process for creating and distributing money, ie their ownership of most of the worldâ??s central banks. They have used this money power to bribe, blackmail and assassinate people at the top levels of power in order to ensure their control. They also control the corporate media and have been using every propaganda tool in their hands to create the appearance that Hillary Clinton will win a close race against Donald Trump. You can also confirm this by holding your nose and watching election coverage on CNN also known as the Clinton News Network. The people behind Donald Trump include the gnostic illuminati, who recruit geniuses of each age who are not part of the ruling bloodlines, sources in the illuminati say. The illuminati favour meritocracy and, since the worldâ??s government agencies and military are meritocratic, it means they control most of the people with guns with the exception of a few mercenaries on the bloodline payrolls. Direct reporting from a White Dragon Society member in the US also reveals overwhelming support for Donald Trump at the street level. Here is his report: â??I went to a Hillary â??rallyâ?? two weeks agoâ?¦there might have been 1500 people tops. On Friday night I went to a Trump rally in Hershey PA. It filled up a hockey arena, at least 15,000, plus 7000 outsideâ?¦Trump is turning rednecks into peaceniks. Hillary is turning dovish liberals into warmongering self-loathing retards.â?? This is what Pentagon sources had to say about the US Presidential election: â??The election will be allowed to proceed to not spook the public so vote fraud and other crimes will be exposed. Immediately thereafter the Republic will be announced, Hillary and cabal arrested, and corrupt agencies like FRB, DOJ, FBI, IRS, DHS and CIA abolished or reformed.â?? The agencies have being doing their bit by using the internet to pump out a flood of information about pedophilia, corruption, human sacrifice and other outrages perpetrated by the bloodlines.

Never Judge a Result By Its Outcome. The Notion of Alternative Histories          Consider the following story borrowed and adapted from a good friend of mind, probably the best risk expert alive today:Nassim Taleb; Imagine an eccentric (and bored) tycoon offering you $ 50 million to play Russian roulette, i.e., to put a revolver containing one bullet in the six available chambers to your head and pull the trigger. Each realization would count as one history, for a total of six possible histories of equal eventualities. Five out of these six histories would lead to enrichment; one would lead to a statistic, that is, an obituary with an embarrassing (but certainly original) cause of death. The problem is that only one of the histories is observed in reality; indeed the winner of $ 50 million would elicit the admiration and praise of some fatuous journalist – likewise if you take randomly 1 million of traders in the room and then universally it can be authors, entrepreneurs, thinkers, investors. Now assume fair odds: 50% chance. Year1: 1 Million; Year 2: 500 000 successful ones; Year 3: 250 000; (Please keep in mind that it is a pure thought experiment in a random world or assume we live in where reality happens that way), - you name it and you put them in the room) Year 4:125 000…….till Year 11: where you have 1000 successful ones, who will be crowned with the name of geniuses, just by pure luck- because they were there and we are going to find the reasons. Indeed he works late in the office, he sleep 8 hours a day, he practices Meditation and Yoga, he eats healthy (Sushi), he studied in Harvard University – yes look at him it cannot be random, how can he be 11 years in the row without having a deep insight – you find reasons to explain the success. This is what the super insightful evolutionary psychologist professor Robert Trivers calls the Post Hoc Fallacy or after the facts,we always fit back explanation to random data .We humans are very good at narrating back or if you want we have inability to prospectively predict and in the meantime we are very good at retrospectively predict with the firm conviction of looking ahead; just as going through life by looking through the review mirror. All what I am saying is that if you have a large population of people making statement about the future, you will be more likely to find prophets. Now I am assuming in the random world – now if it is in a world that not random (stable and that doesn’t change) it doesn’t change too much .Why? Because we humans favour the visible, the tangible, the well narrated and we scorn the abstract. So we make decisions based on the results and we forget what could have happen (alternative history).   For more illustration- consider this if you read Forbes Magazine or the Economist Magazine about the 100 top highly successful CEOs/entrepreneurs of the year – the first thing you realise is : they focus on over causation- I mean the perceive exaggeration of the links between perceived causes and effects, by the way this mistake is reinforce  by retrospective determinism (Hindsight bias) and the cemetery of silence evidence (Subjects of the two next episodes). When in reality most of their results are delivered in a random manner(I am no saying that skills are not necessary, skills are necessary but a lot of people have those skills and few succeed wildly- note the subtle difference here), the public observes the external signs of wealth without even having a glimpse at the source (we call such source the generator.) or without having in the presence mind what about the bankrupts CEOs/entrepreneurs who have the same skills and end up in cemetery( Obviously by taking risk taking propensity, hardworking as general traits share among successful entrepreneurs) .     In a nutshell To understand successes, the study of traits in failure need to be present. For instance some traits that seem to explain millionaires, like appetite for risk, only appear because one does not study bankruptcies. If one includes bankrupt people in the sample, then risk-taking would not appear to be a valid factor explaining success. Any form of analysis of art that does not take into account the silent initial population becomes close pure verbiage. The line of argument in the remaining segment of the paper is to further weaken the causative explanations by showing the prevalence of extrinsic attributes, as opposed to intrinsic ones, those not embedded in the piece to be analysed. The role of these extrinsic attributes (say social contagion, cumulative advantage) implies that the piece was successful for reasons that lie outside its own qualities, and that, accordingly, explanations by the critics are proportionally weaker than face value.          Let us go back to the possibility that the Russian roulette winner ld be used as a role model by his family, friends, and neighbours. While the remaining five histories are not observable, the wise and thoughtful person could asily make a guess as to their attributes. It requires some thoughtfulness and personal courage. In addition, in time, if the roulette-betting fool keeps playing the game, the bad histories will tend to catch up with him. Thus, if a twenty-five-year-old played Russian roulette, say, once a year, there would be a very slim possibility of his surviving until his fiftieth birthday— but, if there are enough players, say thousands of twenty-five-year-old players, we can expect to see a handful of (extremely rich) survivors (and a very large cemetery). The reader or the listener can see my unusual notion of alternative accounting: $ 50 million earned through Russian roulette does not have the same value as $ 50 million earned through the diligent and artful practice of dentistry. They are the same, can buy the same goods, except that one’s dependence on randomness is greater than the other. Reality is different from roulette. First in the simplistic example above, while the result is unknown you know the odds, most of life is dealing with uncertainty. Bullets are infrequent, “like a revolver that would have hundreds, even thousands, of chambers instead of six.” After a while you forget about the bullet. You can’t see the chamber and we generally think of risk in terms of what is visible.             No amount of evidence can allow the inference that something is true whereas one counter example can refute a conclusion. This idea is also related to the “denigration of history,” where we think things that happen to others would not happen to us. The kernel point of my thought is that we tend to mistake absence of evidence for evidence of absence- which is okay if we are in domain that stable and that doesn’t change (for example: If you are employee, baker, dentist,Therapist etc.…) namely mediocristan. But the world today has become more complex and therefore unstable and prone to large consequence Example: Author, book publishing, Venture Capital, Biotechnology etc.…   In conclusion here are three big ideas which allow you to avoid the pitfall trap of being victim of judging a Result by its Outcome. -First and foremost, since we live in world that more and more complex today, play the counterfactuals to dig out the alternative history   -Second always simulate not to see what will happen, but what may happen- after all It is often said that "is wise he who can see things coming." Perhaps the wise one is the one who knows that he cannot see things far away.   - Third focus on the task, not just the fruit of the task. Guess what you will feel refresh
