Today I am speaking with Carolina Reis Oliveira, OneSkin Co-Founder & CEO. We discuss the importance of addressing the root cause of skin aging and the role of senescent cells in the aging process. We also talk about the skin barrier and how it can become compromised. Carolina shares her thoughts on retinol and the importance of listening to your skin's reaction to products. OneSkin measures skin aging through the epigenetic signature of the skin. OneSkin has developed a peptide called OS1 that has been shown to reduce the age of the skin by 2.5 years in humans. The peptide works by reducing the load of senescent cells and promoting collagen production. OneSkin is constantly researching and developing new products to target skin aging and are exploring the potential of using their peptide for other inflammatory conditions. OneSkin believes in the importance of staying at the forefront of scientific research and innovation to provide the most effective products for skin aging. Save 15% off OneSkin with code KAYLACLICK HERE to SHOP! ABOUT CAROLINAFascinated with biology from a young age, Carolina knew she'd have a future in science. A fearless leader with a passion for longevity and living life to the fullest, she embarked on an ambitious goal — to delay the onset of age-related diseases by targeting aging itself. This led her to earn degrees in stem cell biology and tissue engineering, and a doctorate in immunology. Then, determined to translate her academic achievements into real-world impact, Carolina left her native Brazil for Silicon Valley, co-founding OneSkin in 2016. As Chief Executive Officer, Carolina and her team spearhead research and development, creating molecules that target cellular aging, including their pioneering innovation, the OS-01 peptide. The term 'biohacking' may sound intimidating, but it simply refers to a practice that uses science and technology to make your body function better. This convergence lies at the core of the Young Goose skincare line, with a mission to biohack skincare and rejuvenate the skin on a cellular level by utilizing powerful ingredients like NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide). NAD+ plays a crucial role in the skin's rejuvenation and repair processes, resulting in healthier, younger-looking skin. As we age, our NAD+ levels decline, which can lead to reduced cellular repair and increased signs of aging. Taking control of skin aging extends beyond just using skincare products, and holistic practices like regular exercise, intermittent fasting, maintaining good sleep hygiene, and embracing mindfulness can naturally elevate NAD levels. Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! CODE: BRITTWIT15https://www.oneloveorganics.com/discount/BRITTWIT15A few highlights:- Suzanne shares her journey from law (yep, law) to skincare mogul, why and where it all started, and how she has rooted every step along the way in integrity - I finally learn how to use an eye cream - We'll get an inside look at how formulas are made, the pressure's a founder can face and what ECOCERT actually means- Suzanne's am/pm routines are a thing of beauty, no pun intended- Her advice to founders coming up and/or getting started & more!Thank you for spending time with me! Kate finds a 5-minute face routine rhythm and Doree continues to meal plan like a pro. We continue our analysis of a serial killer who raped and murdered at least 33 young men and boys. Jim points out how in this case and others, law enforcement assumed that all sex between gay men is consensual, and as a result they often did not take seriously reports of rape. If they had, they might have stopped JG sooner when victims came forward accusing him of rape. Laura explains why it is so important not to give sensationalistic monikers to these offenders and why at Real Crime Profile we do our best to not name them. Lisa asks about the post execution conspiracy theory posited by some, that JG was part of a large child sex trafficking ring. #DevilinDiguise#Peacock#VictimsMatter #SerialKiller #Profiling #BehavioralAnalysis++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS! See all the Healthcasts at https://www.biobalancehealth.com/healthcast-blog/ Why Most Women Don't Take Time to Wash Their Face If you are like most of my patients, washing your face is something that gets lost in your time crunch. I know the routine! Brush your teeth, put on your jammies, go to the bathroom and collapse into bed! The life of a productive woman…but wait! You forgot something vital…you forgot to take care of your most important asset! Your face! It is vital that women take their eye makeup off and cleanse their skin, if nothing else, before bed. The act of washing your face should take only a few minutes and will both clean and exfoliate the dead skin cells from your face. For dry skin, the right product is necessary to moisturize while you cleanse your skin, and for oily skin it is imperative that your remove the oil from your skin so it doesn't fester and become infected zits that will take weeks to heal! The first step in cleansing your face is to identify whether your skin is dry or oily, and then pick the appropriate product to use to cleanse and exfoliate your face every night and morning. We will review the best choices in skincare from the lines of products we carry at my med spa, BioBalance Skin, but first, if your mother didn't teach you or you didn't listen, then here are the steps straight from the lips of the skin experts, Dermatologists: Use warm water Splash your face with warm water to dampen and then soap up your cleanser and massage it into your skin, face first and then your neck. If you use a mechanical face cleaner like a Clairsonic then use that to massage and exfoliate your facial skin one area at a time, without mechanical help, use your fingers to gently massage the cleanser into your skin. Splash off the cleanser with warm water Pat your skin with a soft towel to dry…don't rub your skin! Then most of us who are older than 35 should not just go to bed after washing our face but we should use this time to treat our skin with products to improve the health and look of our skin. Just think about it, when we sleep, we can use our sleep-hours without wearing makeup, to “treat” our skin with the necessary products. OK I'll do it, but most women aren't sure what order to apply their products, so here it is! A recommendation from the College of Dermatologists helps us out: Step 1: Cleanser. After removing all your makeup, cleanse your face with an oil-based or water-based cleanser—or both if you're doing a double cleanse! ... Step 2: Toner to remove the last environmental dirt and dead skin. Step 3: Serum to treat wrinkles, and sagging skin. Think of serum as “feeding” your skin. Step 4: Spot Treatment. ...for dark spots, or acne, to bleach away brown spots etc. Step 5: Eye Cream under and above your eyes to ..keep the skin youthful, toned, tight Step 6: Moisturizer. To replace the water, we lose through our skin through evaporation and prevent wrinkling. Step 7: Face Oil For very dry skin so your skin will be beautiful in the morning. Choice of Face Cleanser for You: Now let's look at the different kinds of face cleansers that we have chosen at BioBalance Skin for our patients. We Recommend SkinCeuticals and Defenage products for our patients, and we recommend products meant for your skin type. SkinCeuticals Equalizing Toner if you feel like you have excess residue or just need a cleansing boost" - helps refresh and restore skin and exfoliate while removing excess residue - mixed hydroxy acids and calming botanicals to help regulate the pH of the skin. We recommend…. SkinCeuticals Daily Moisture - Restores and maintains moisture - Normal to Oily Skin Types - helps reduce the appearance of pore size Triple Lipid Restore for All Patients and Skin Types - Ideal for Everyone - Night time, Daytime if needed (layer with sunscreen) - Restores essential skin lipids - Improves the look of skin fullness, texture, and pore appearance - lightweight and fast-absorbing Now you have the information you need to make an educated decision about what you are going to do with your skin care, face washing, toning and or moisturizing. Wondering if you should bother with an eye cream? Searching for the best one? Then stick around, because on today’s episode, the eyes have it. As the skin around our eyes is the thinnest and most sensitive on our faces, it’s usually where the first signs of aging show up. Often, it’s when those first lines crop up that we think about incorporating an eye cream into our skincare routines. What causes the signs of aging around our eyes? The skin around your eyes is around ten times thinner than the skin on the rest of your face. This means that your eye skin gets less of the benefits of your natural oils. Sebum is the stuff that keeps your skin smooth and appropriately moisturised. On top of this, the effects of being outside (think urban pollution and UV rays) have an impact on your skin. Although we’re all different and the effects of aging happen no matter how well we live, there are a few things that can speed the aging process up. These include: Smoking; Excessive alcohol intake; Sun exposure The reason fine lines and wrinkles show up is because of a gradual loss of collagen and elasticity. Can’t I just use my usual moisturiser on my eyes? Great question. Although it’s true that eye creams are moisturisers, not all moisturisers are eye creams. What sets eye creams apart from your facial moisturiser is that: Eye creams are formulated especially for anti-aging. Ingredients commonly found in eye creams include Niacinamide, Peptides, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid; They are made to be gentle enough to not trigger irritation on the particularly sensitive areas around your eyes. This is not necessarily true for all moisturisers. In addition, if you’re looking to get started with a preventative anti-aging eye cream while you’re in your 20s, you need to watch out for the formulation of your products. Typical anti-aging moisturisers are going to be too thick for young skin. What’s the best way to apply Eye Cream? Softly and gently. Lightly tap and massage eye creams onto our skin, making sure to give it enough time to fully absorb. Although it’s tempting, don’t use too much cream each application. Eye creams have a minimum effective dose and going above it won’t get you better results. In fact, if you over-do it, you may end up with millia. These are unsightly little white dots caused by clogged pores from too much product I recommend using no more than a pea-sized amount. How To Get More Bang for Your Buck With an Eye Cream Apply it to marionette lines and neck lines as well! These areas are similarly prone to wrinkles and fine lines. Eye Products I Love For a luxurious eye cream that won’t break the bank, try APLB’s Daily Miracle Eye Cream. Addressing all the key concerns (eye bags, fine lines and puffiness), this eye cream revitalizes the skin around your eyes. A long time favourite of jet-setting flight attendants, d’Alba’s White Truffle Multi Treatment Eye Cream helps you fight the appearance of fine lines no matter where you are in the world. White Truffle revives tired skin and locks in moisture, smoothing out wrinkles. If you’re looking for some additional brightening to reduce dark circles under your eyes, Purito’s Centella Green Level Eye Cream ticks all boxes. A great summertime eye cream, this lightweight formulation is 100% vegan and artificial fragrance free. For an award winning product that scored highly in blind testing try Benton Fermentation Eye Cream. Packed full of skin-friendly fermented ingredients and ceramides, this eye cream gently cares for the delicate under-eye skin while also realising anti-aging benefits. It showed a wrinkle reduction of 5.82% after 28 days of clinical trials. Heimish Bulgarian Rose Hydrogel Eye Patch - These luxurious eye patches attach perfectly to the delicate skin under your eyes, delivering the active ingredients precisely where they are needed, allowing skin to absorb the essence. They are eco-friendly - simply dissolve them in water once you’re finished using them. Hormones, sleep deprivation, stress, diet and that ugly word 'aging' seem to magnify themselves on our faces with each passing year. So, we decided to have another skin care expert on the BOMpod to discuss what we can do to age gracefully. Trina Renae is an experienced aestetician who founded the renowned Spa Lé La in Los Angeles which features nourishing, healing skin care modalities with a special focus on moms. As in...they have FREE CHILDCARE AT THE SPA! Trina (a mom, obvi) lays it all out for us while we desperately try to understand what skin care products really do, and how we should use them. Here's some points of discussion: A proper nighttime routine (yes, you need one) Why we need antioxidants What's a serum and what should be in it? After college, they each moved to separate coasts for a decade. They were reunited when they decided to leave big city life and settle down with their families in Denver, Colorado and Facebook told them their daughters are 3 weeks apart. After several play dates, some more childbirth, some unsuccessful pumping, and the overwhelming nature of mommy community boards, The Pump and Dump Show was born. The show launched in 2012 in a bar in Northwest Denver and quickly grew to a bi-monthly, local staple for new moms to have a night out. In 2014, Shayna and Tracey took The Pump and Dump Show on its first national tour, and in September of 2019 The Pump and Dump Show expanded with more casts of real moms who continue to perform every month to audiences nationwide. You've heard the promises: Eye creams reduce or even erase the signs of aging: fine lines, wrinkles, and dark circles. But aren't eye creams just more-expensive moisturizers in a smaller package? Tune in this week to get your answer! Featured Product Organixx Skin: Renew Eye Cream * * * Do You Really Need Eye Cream? Did you know your eyes can look up to 20 years older than the rest of your face? This is due to those pesky concerns like dark circles and puffiness around the eye. Dark circles occur because the skin below the eye is so thin it actually shows the blood pumping around - the eye puffiness further exacerbates this. You've heard the promises: Eye creams reduce or even erase the signs of aging: fine lines, wrinkles, and dark circles. But aren't eye creams just more-expensive moisturizers in a smaller package? Not necessarily, says dermatologist Patricia Farris, MD, a clinical associate professor at Tulane University School of Medicine. "Eye creams are formulated specifically for the delicate skin around the eye, so they tend to be thicker. They contain more oil than a regular facial lotion, and they have a lot of active ingredients aimed at the problems we see around the eyes," Farris explains. The skin around the eyes is more fragile, more prone to dryness, and quicker to show age and fatigue. Squinting and constant movement of the eyes also hasten the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and fluids collect under the eyes and cause puffiness and dark circles. Eye creams can address some of these issues. Here’s an unsettling thought: the skin around the eye loses moisture around 50% faster than the rest of your face, so it’s actually the driest area of your face. However, the skin is so delicate it doesn’t show patchy dryness on the surface, like the rest of our face, even though it’s the most vulnerable area. Top 5 Reasons You Want to Use an Eye Cream 1. MINIMIZE THE LOOK OF DARK CIRCLES Nothing highlights your lack of sleep more than a set of dark circles hanging around your eyes. When you’re tired, a chemical called cortisol builds up in your body to give you energy to stay awake. This internal energy shot causes blood vessels to inflate, causing them to push up against the thin skin around your eyes creating dark circles. Yes, one of the well-known uses for under eye cream is to help mask those dark under eye circles. There are many products out there claiming to do just this, so considering the ingredients in each is key. Dark circles under the eyes come from genes, sun damage, age, and blood build-up. Sodium ascorbate, or vitamin C, can thicken the skin and help conceal dark circles after about 6 months. 2. SAY GOODBYE TO PUFFINESS You’ve likely fallen victim to under eye bags at some point. Lack of sleep is no joke–and surely not the look you’re going for. Due to the horizontal nature of sleeping, blood and fluid accumulate beneath your eyes every night as you sleep. When you wake up, your body takes time to trickle these fluids back into the body (it can take even longer if you’re tired). 3. REDUCE WRINKLES Whether you’re a victim of smile-lines or sun damage, under eye wrinkles are a fact of life. Luckily, there are a few products you can use to help reduce them and keep your skin looking youthful. Fine lines and wrinkles come from both sun damage and your skin making less collagen as you age. Collagen helps maintain skin's elasticity. Vitamin C, peptides, and retinol have boosted collagen production, studies of skin creams show. Ceramide and hyaluronic acid also help; these are moisturizers that help prevent water loss in the skin and improve elasticity. 4. PREVENT WRINKLES Of course, getting rid of present wrinkles is something most of us think to do, but many people neglect the importance of prevention. Being proactive about potential wrinkles by using anti-aging products will save yourself the stress and hassle of waiting until they appear Skin around the eyes is 40 per cent thinner and it’s also the least elastic part of your face. That means it doesn’t have the bounce back that your cheeks might have, even though we tend to focus mostly on the complexion at large–big mistake. Organixx’s RENEW can work hard to undo your sins, even if they run deep, and it will continue to protect the delicate area by hydrating the skin and improving its softness and elasticity. The product contains witch hazel, an anti-inflammatory, meaning it will protect from environmental stressors too. 5. PREP YOUR SKIN FOR MAKEUP While there are plenty of products that will prep your skin for your daily makeup routine, under eye cream is one that most people overlook. With its firming and smoothing qualities, it has the power to make all the difference in how your makeup applies and wears throughout the day. It's important to note here that this doesn’t just pertain to women. Men benefit greatly from a healthy skincare regimen as well! 3 Ingredients You Should Never Put Near Your Eyes New beauty and skin care products surface every day with promises of better, younger-looking eyes. But before you apply them on and around your peepers, you might (read: definitely) want to check the ingredient list on the back. We discussed the top ingredients to avoid in your skincare on episodes 55 & 56. Be sure to check those out if you haven’t already! According to New York oculoplastic surgeon Irene Gladstein, MD, your go-to product probably contains an irritant that may be pose a threat to your eye health. “There is a myriad of skin care ingredients that, when used in close proximity to the eye, may cause undesirable—and frankly dangerous—ophthalmic concerns.“ Here are the top three culprits to look out for in order to keep sensitivity far, far away. Parabens Found in most products that contain any amount of water, Dr. Gladstein says preservatives like parabens and benzalkonium chloride (BAK) are common in makeup and skin care products, as well as makeup removers. While preservatives work to prevent bacteria from forming in your products, ingredients like parabens or BAK can also cause adverse reactions in some when placed too close to the eye. Heavy metals “Nickel and chrome, two heavy metals seen in all sorts of makeup products, are known to be responsible for skin and eye allergies,” explains Dr. Gladstein. However, don’t confuse these with metals such as iron, which plays an important role in our body and is necessary for proper function. Retinols Don’t worry: Retinols are still the gold standard of anti-aging ingredients. But, Dr. Gladstein says you have to be careful about where (and how carefully) you apply it. “When used in close proximity to the sensitive lining of the eye, retinols may precipitate dry eye and significant irritation.” The solution: Don’t get too close to your eye and use a retinol that’s specifically formulated for use in that area instead of your facial retinol. (Many will contain hydrating ingredients that will soothe or minimize any irritation around the delicate area.) Renew Eye Cream New product from Organixx. My guest today is Moty Ben Shabat, Co-Founder of SEACRET Direct, a billion dollar skin care company based in Arizona, where they produce products made from Minerals From The Dead Sea. Moty served a number of years in the Israeli Army as a Medic and his long-term plan was to study medicine, however he had no money, so he moved to the United States when he was 25 years of age to earn enough money so he could go back to Israel and put himself through medical school. In the end he made so much money he never went back to Israel, and instead he teamed up with his brother Izhak Ben Shabat and together they created a billion dollar company. This is an amazing story of how you can start with nothing, overcome adversity and build a hugely successful company if you stay focused. In this episode we discuss: The University of Life, what does it mean? How Moty fell into owning his own business within 24 hours of arriving in the USA. How he made more money selling ice cream than he ever could have made being a doctor. With zero business skills, he learnt how to run his business as he built his business. Don’t let fear stop you from starting. An entrepreneur will jump off a cliff and figure out how to make a plane on the way down. Having an early vision of growth based on realistic figures. Don’t throw out an old shoe until you have a new one. How to deal with ‘Bad Timing’. Why making your team feel like family builds unity and strength. Your goal is to surround yourself with people more talented than you. If it all depends in you…your success may be short lived. Why it’s important to look for products that are not seasonal Become solution orientated and don’t die wondering. SEACRET is the company (12 years old) – sold 1.5 billion dollars worth of products. This year they will turnover $200 million. What is ‘Relationship Marketing’? If you help enough people get what they want, you’ll get everything you want (Zig Ziglar). Embrace Change If you have a desire to own your own business – go for it and don’t let the outside noises get to you. Do not listen to negative people. There’s always someone willing to tell you why you cannot be successful. Not everything in business will go smoothly, but as long as you stay focused on the finishing line, you won’t see the obstacles. New show! Old hosts!
In a World where Eye Cream is made from Placenta, Gina Barreca is the lone voice calling out “But wait, whose placenta is it?” Why is there no King Charming? Why does no bra ever fit? Why do people say “cougar” like it's a bad thing? Why do we call it a glass ceiling when it's just a thick layer of men? Gina Barreca is a professor of English and feminist theory at the University of Connecticut, the author of several books, a sough-after public speaker, and a writer for the Chronicle of Higher Education and Psychology Today websites. She appeared on “Oprah” where she debated (bested!) the authors of The Rules with her sharp wit. Gina and I will be discussing her hilarious book "It's Not That I'm Bitter..." and showing women how they can conquer the world with good friends. “It's not that diamonds are a girl's best friend, but a girl's best friends are diamonds.” Please call 347.327.9995 on Tuesday Sept 7th from 10-11am U.S. CDT to join Gina and I live on the air with your questions and personal stories.

Jan Marini is one of the most respected names in skin care with her eponymous line. On today's show, Teri talks about one of Jan's lines -- her Age Intervention® series. Teri (and the show's producers) are big supporters of Jan's products and we invited her on the show because we've personally experienced amazing results. Teri asks Jan about her Hair Revitalizing Conditioner, Lash Conditioner, Eye Cream and Face Cream. As we age, our lashes and hair become more fragile just as our skin does. Jan talks about what ages us, from immune functions to hormones to our body fat percentages and more. Then she talks about how each of the products is formulated and how to use each to restore hair, lashes and skin.
