DOPEYCON TICKETS: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/thedopeyfoundation/1765668PATREON:www.patreon.com/dopeypodcastThis week on Dopey! We are joined by Tik ToK superstar Gabby Eagen! But first we hear some of the notes and comments from last weeks Dopey - we read an email from a Russian film maker heroin addict who used to get high off poppy seeds. The we hear a crazy drug story from a crazy dopey who gopt stung in his eye by a bee! Then we hear from Gabby! Dave chops it up with TikTok creator and tie-dye shop owner Gabby (Gabrielle) Egan. She grew up in Fayetteville, NC; first got high on Triple C's in middle school and smoked weed at 12; got pregnant at 13; joined the Army at 17 (diesel mechanic) and drank heavy. Fame hit on TikTok during COVID. Two alcohol arrests landed her on TMZ (Vegas blackout/“kicking a cop,” later a Nashville headbutt). In Sept 2024, Rachel from Against All Odds brought her to an AA meeting—Gabby white-knuckled a hotel night with no weed, flew home, and hasn't smoked or drank since (sober date 9/20/24). She talks bipolar I (diagnosed 21), quitting carts/edibles, withdrawals, motherhood of four (his/hers/ours), pop-up tie-dye hustle, anxiety about meeting followers IRL, and how group accountability (Sober Girls chat) plus sitting in discomfort keeps her straight. She caps it by telling her whole story in 60 seconds. ALL THAT PLUS MORE on a brand new edition of that good old dopey show!
This week, Ali sits down with Savannah Bisby, who shares her infertility story on IG @infertilityfriends, to talk about Savannah's journey so far. She's still in the thick of it, battling endometriosis, doing five IUIs (including double inseminations), a laparoscopy, and taking a deep dive into reproductive immunology. Savannah talks about the emotional whiplash of infertility, including embryo transfer decisions and finding herself on a bachelorette party while waiting for beta results, suspended between hope and dread. Savannah also talks about how Inito, an at-home fertility monitor that tracks your hormones, has helped on her journey, how she finally became pregnant and navigated a devastating loss, and why the summer of 2025 became a heartbreak she and her husband will never forget. Her story is still unfolding, and we are rooting so hard for our sweet friend. Lured Up Podcast 362 Live Streamed on - 3/9/25 Publish Date - 3/12/25 We think Trainers had a lot more fun celebrating Kanto than they thought they would. With a diverse spawn pool, plenty of fan favorites, and some nice bonuses, it really was a good time. Last weekend we had Mega Sharpedo, which was surprisingly popular, bringing out strong numbers on the ground, with a good helping of Remote Raiders as well. It was a bit nice to only have a single 2-5pm event over the weekend, as it gave us time to recover, prep, and spend time with our families! We hope this is the pacing we see moving forward. Trade Days may be one of the best incentives to IRL play that we have seen in a long time. Who knew that just adding an additional Lucky Trade would motivate people to reach the end of an event and want to keep the gameplay going with a trade session. We are major supporters of this new bonus, and think it will only grow in popularity as Communities build it into their meetup schedules. Nothing better than grabbing some food after an event, talking shop, and banging out 100 trades. There is still a lot of September gameplay left this month with the return of the Psychic Spectacular, Shadow Groudon Raid Weekend and the newly announced Completely Normal event. Even though this Psychic Spectacular is a Taken Over event, the core event has been a staple on the Pokémon GO annual calendar for years. We take a close look at Niantic's blog's for the event over the last few years and how they have changed. From fully detailed spawn lists with images, to just a list, to a now, very shortened list, the community has feelings. For some it is a non-issue, but for others, they feel mistreated, almost assuming Niantic has some malicious intent in removing a few Pokémon from this list. Adam brings up a good point in how this game rarely if ever surprises us. Maybe this is a simple way to add some actual surprise in needing to adventure a bit to get the big picture. Finally, we touch on how some quality of life and interface updates have upset some Trainers online, reminding us that some people will simply be upset at anything and everything. When everyone has a mic, how the hell do you know who to trust? That's the question keeping me up at night as I watch the podcasting industry completely transform before our eyes. The most influential podcast hosts are literally walking away from easy money and celebrity guests to chase something more valuable: authenticity. Rich Roll and Tim Ferriss aren't just making programming changes - they're leading a revolution that's about to reshape how we consume media forever. This shift isn't just about podcasting - it's about finding solid ground in a world designed to destabilize us. I'm pulling you into the room where this cultural earthquake is happening loudest, sharing the data my software genius husband has been aggregating, and revealing why this moment could be the difference between building something forgettable or becoming absolutely essential. Plus, I'm dropping a massive announcement about a new podcast I'm launching that takes this whole trust crisis to the next level. What You'll Learn in This Episode:• Why podcast industry giants like Rich Roll and Tim Ferriss are rejecting celebrity press tours and what this means for authentic content creation • The explosive rise of contrarian podcasting and why audiences are craving perspectives outside mainstream narratives• How video podcasting is reshaping listener expectations and driving podcast market evolution • The seven proven monetization strategies that are actually working in today's saturated market • Why niche content is building more loyal communities than broad-appeal shows • How AI tools are streamlining production while demanding even more authenticity from creators • The surprising data showing market saturation is actually decreasing, creating massive opportunities • What's really behind the trust crisis in media and how podcasters are respondingReady to stop consuming recycled bullshit and start building something that matters? CUJO is a podcast about culture in the age of platforms. Episodes drop every other week, but if you want the full experience — including access to our CUJOPLEX Discord and our eternal parasocial friendship — we recommend signing up for a paid subscription.Paid subscribers also get access to The Weather Report, a new monthly episode series where we take stock of where the cultural winds are blowing and tell you what's rained into our brains. In the latest installment, cyberethnographer Ruby Justice Thelot joins us to wax philosophical about the Labubu craze, matcha and “performative male” discourse, and why politicians are lifting weights in public. To whet your appetite, we're lifting the paywall on the episode for the next 48 hours. It's easy to get the impression these days that the traditional media industry is abandoning cultural criticism. Over the past few months, outlets like The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Chicago Tribune have been reassigning or letting go of veteran film, music, and theater critics, leaving some to debate what impact, if any, written criticism still has on the culture at large. Bucking this trend (and pretty much all mainstream media logic) is The Metrograph, a new biannual print magazine about cinema from the eponymous repertory theater in New York City's Chinatown. It's long, proudly niche, intentionally disconnected from the news cycle, and available only in print—with the goal of offering deep film fans an experience they won't be able to find online, while inviting a new generation of people into the culture. The recently released second issue includes a 42-page dive into Paul Morrissey's archives, author Gary Indiana's favorite films (RIP), a history of the Japanese pink film, a “cinemap” of Belgrade, and a comic about Jerry Lewis's infamous lost film The Day the Clown Cried. The cover, which we've cropped for this episode's artwork, features a painting by artist Louise Giovanelli inspired by Christina Ricci's character in Buffalo '66.Senior editor Annabel Brady-Brown (formerly of Australia's Fireflies Press) and editor-at-large Nick Pinkerton (film critic, screenwriter of The Sweet East, creator of the Substack Employee Picks, and a former coworker of Emilie's at Kim's Video) join us to discuss the past, present, and future of independent film criticism—and what it means to make a magazine for cinephiles in 2025. We also discuss why younger people in NYC seem to be gravitating back to the movies these days, and how the hyper-IRL, videostore-centric independent film culture of 20 years ago is a good template for what that might look like in the 2020s. Finally, we shout out some of the directors, movies, and micro publications that are making right now such an exciting time for cinema in NYC — and the repertory theaters and video stores we love around the world that are keeping the old Kim's Video spirit alive.Issue 2 of The Metrograph is out now. Buy it here, or at an independent book or magazine store near you.Read more by our guests:”Less rock, more talk: On Paul Morrissey, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Ezra Pound, ‘political' art, and 1988's ‘Spike of Bensonhurst'” by Nick Pinkerton (Employee Picks) “Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows: On the subversive pleasures of Agnès Varda‘s Le Bonheur” by Annabel Brady-Brown (The Metrograph) This is a public episode. Co-Host Melissa Schipke (https://mountaintoppodcast.com/pitchafriend) By now, you know I'm on record with my firm belief that dating sites and apps are dead. About a month and a half ago I ran a Masterclass For Men detailing 40 different ways to use your smartphone and computer to meet women in IRL...NONE of which are dating sites and apps. Well, wouldn't you know it? There's a 41st. My new friend and first time guest Melissa Schipke stumbled upon a strange but fun idea for getting single people together while hanging out at an open mic night with BAD comedians! She told the owner of the venue it would be more entertaining if she and her friend just got up there and pitched their single friends to these guys. A few years later, Pitch-A-Friend is in dozens of cities spanning 22 countries...and growing. So what's the deal? Let's just say it's basically online dating in REVERSE. Instead of putting up a profile and hoping someone likes it, all the single people are ALREADY THERE in the room, and THEN your friend basically "wings" for you with a PowerPoint presentation. Now, I actually did my homework here and went to the most recent event here in San Antonio. At first I planned to be a "fly on the wall", but my waitress turned out to be pretty cute and VERY single...so I pitched her! Tune in for more on how THAT went, as well as all the details about Pitch-A-Friend...including why it's EXACTLY in line with what the "new normal" for meeting women is gonna look like. Obviously, GenZ is eating this stuff up. But wait a minute...what about Pitch-A-Friend in The Villages or Sun City, AZ. Ha! And by the way, there was room for a relevant Dead Milkmen reference in there, too. Nice. Gentlemen, download your free book Sticking Points Solved and much more (including that infamous Masterclass from last month) at https://mountaintoppodcast.com === HELP US SEND THE MESSAGE TO GREAT MEN EVERYWHERE === The show is now available as a VIDEO version on YouTube. For some reason, the episodes seem funnier...if a bit more rough around the edges. If you love what you hear, please rate the show on the service you subscribed to it on (takes one second) and leave a review. As we say here in Texas, I appreciate you!
Here is the scene… You are winding down towards the end of your Raid Day, walking down a hill with the remaining members of your Campfire. You reach the waterfront just as the sun is dropping below the horizon, lighting up the gameboard in an amber glow. Trainers are scattered about, and everyone is having an incredible time. Sounds like the best, right? We think so. We kick things off with a recap of the last week, with another triple threat weekend. The Kanto Celebration has us smiling when Snorlax appears, as our weekend brings us Rookidee Community Day and Mega Gyarados Raid Day. The calendar fatigue has been real, and sometimes you need a hard reset. The repetitive nature we see in this game sometimes makes it easy to pick an event to sit out, or at least the event that will bring the least amount of FOMO. Mega Sharpedo will debut this weekend, with a Raid Day that should be popular with the Community. Mega Raids can be done with fewer Trainers than some Legendaries, so Mega Raid Days can move quickly, offer high accessibility, and breathe new life into existing Pokémon already in our storage. Adam can brush off his multiple hundo Sharpedo and decide what to do with his squad of Hundo Carvana. The addition of Trade Days make any Sunday event more attractive, and something tells us there will be plenty of Shiny Mega Sharpedo trades going down. We glaze over the remaining events of the month, as we have over a week until they arrive. Team GO Rocket is back with the Psychic Spectacular: Taken Over, which takes us into Shadow Groudon Raid Weekend. The pacing remains high, which pairs well when the community is feeling good. The September GO Pass however, has some Trainers feeling a bit left out. Our final convo of the game is about player expectation, and how like the Timed Incubator, you get out what you put in. With Niantic slash Scopely putting more and more into IRL gameplay, the experience itself can sometimes outweigh the event. That is the lightning in a bottle. The experience behind community events, the magic that happens off screen, the friendships that we make along the way. All of these things create an environment that Trainers of all skill levels, ambitions, or financial investment can get behind. That environment is what some perspectives on line are lacking, as Community experiences aren't created through paid tickets, rewards, or bonuses. The Campfire events are becoming the star of the show, and we are here for it. Meet Julie Lokun, the founder of The MediaCasters and Cre8tive Con. This discussion centers on the importance of authentic networking, emphasizing in-person connections and genuine follow-up over superficial interactions. Julie Lokun and Favour Obasi-Ike highlight the value of self-awareness in professional settings, distinguishing between introvert and extrovert networking styles, and the significance of building relationships based on trust and mutual support. They also address the practicalities of establishing and safeguarding a business, advising listeners on due diligence and surrounding themselves with a supportive team.FAQ about this episode on event networking?1. What are the key elements of effective personal and professional branding?Effective personal and professional branding is crucial for successful networking and overall career growth. It involves understanding how you present yourself to the world and how others perceive you. This includes your online presence, your demeanor in person, and the consistency of your message. A strong brand is authentic, clearly communicates your vision, and resonates with your audience. The "Cold Play concert" example highlights the potential for public incidents to drastically impact one's brand, emphasizing the importance of being mindful of your actions both publicly and privately.2. Why is follow-up considered the most important and often overlooked aspect of networking?Follow-up is paramount in networking because it transforms initial encounters into meaningful connections. Many people neglect this step, leading to superficial interactions that don't yield results. The hosts emphasize that if a follow-up doesn't happen, it might indicate a lack of genuine connection or interest sparked during the initial conversation. Effective follow-up isn't just about sending an email; it's about actively listening during the initial interaction, identifying how you can offer value, and making a memorable impression that encourages the other person to want to connect further.3. How can individuals move beyond superficial networking and build deeper, more valuable relationships?Building deeper connections goes beyond exchanging business cards. It requires being genuinely interested in others rather than solely focusing on self-promotion. Asking insightful questions, actively listening, and identifying ways to connect people with others in your network are powerful strategies. This approach fosters a sense of "know, like, and trust," which is the foundation of any strong relationship, whether personal or professional. By focusing on creating value for others, individuals can build a robust network that extends beyond fleeting encounters.4. What are the differences between introverts, extroverts, and ambiverts in a networking context, and how can each type succeed? The discussion highlights that introversion, extroversion, and ambiversion relate to how individuals manage their energy, not necessarily their shyness or confidence. Extroverts gain energy from social interaction, while introverts' energy can be depleted by large groups. Ambiverts exhibit a mix of both. For introverts, pacing themselves, choosing events they are passionate about, and potentially having a "sherpa" or partner can make networking more manageable. Extroverts need to be mindful of not overwhelming others and tailoring their approach. Self-awareness is key for all, allowing individuals to navigate networking spaces effectively by understanding and managing their own energy levels.5. What is the vision and purpose behind Creative Con, and what does it offer attendees?Creative Con was born from the desire to create a live event that elevates the voices of powerful entrepreneurs. The founder, Julie Lokun, aimed to provide a stage for individuals who are changing the world through their businesses, books, and media presence. Creative Con is designed to be a transformative experience where attendees can build meaningful connections, be surprised and delighted by the program, and leave as a "different, better version" of themselves. It emphasizes collaboration, learning, and fostering a supportive ecosystem for entrepreneurs.6. What is the ideal balance between speaking and listening during networking events? The hosts strongly suggest a 70/30 split: listening 70% of the time and speaking 30%. The rationale is that if people are truly interested in what you have to say, they will ask you questions. This approach emphasizes curiosity and humility over self-promotion. By listening more, you gain a deeper understanding of others' needs and can identify opportunities to provide value, leading to more profound connections. The only exception is if you are a paid keynote speaker, in which case speaking 100% of the time is appropriate.7. What is the future of networking, especially in an era of AI and digital communication?Despite the rise of AI and digital platforms, the hosts firmly believe that the most powerful networking will always be done "IRL" (in real life). While online tools like Clubhouse, Roam, and Zoom have their place, nothing replaces the ability to look someone in the eye, feel their energy, and experience their genuine presence. In-person connections foster sincerity, build "know, like, and trust" more effectively, and are crucial for vetting potential partners. The effort required for in-person networking pays off in dividends, as it builds more robust and authentic relationships.8. What essential advice is offered for entrepreneurs and individuals navigating business relationships and personal growth?Several pieces of advice are offered for success in both business and personal growth. Firstly, "be a good human" and act with integrity and strong morals. Secondly, entrepreneurs should surround themselves with a trusted team or "anchors" who can offer diverse perspectives and help them make sound decisions, especially when entering into contracts. Always trust your gut instinct, but also do your due diligence by researching potential partners and ensuring their business practices are legitimate. Don't be afraid to ask for mentorship or assistance, as genuine people will often recognize and respond to sincerity. Lastly, embrace an authentic self, be consistent, work hard, and don't expect easy shortcuts.Access our Digital Marketing SEO Resources:>> Join our exclusive SEO Marketing community>> SEO Optimization Blogs>> Book a Complimentary SEO Discovery Call with Favour Obasi-Ike>> Subscribe to the We Don't PLAY PodcastBrands We Love and SupportLoving Me Beauty | Buy Vegan-based Luxury ProductsUnlock your future in real estate—get certified in Ghana today!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Welcome to the final instalment in our three-part series on becoming a f*cking badass. In part one, we defined her. In part two, we uncovered what blocks her. And now in part three, we build her. But let me tell you something straight up: you don't become a badass by doing more. You become her by learning to hold more. In this EP, I share the three core capacities you must train if you want to become a woman who can lead, lift, and live a powerful AF life: the ability to hold tension the ability to hold energy the ability to hold power This is the anatomy of a badass. I walk you through exactly how I train these traits inside Warrior School so you can build the body, the mind, and the systems to hold the life you want. Because badassery isn't about doing more. It's about building the woman who can hold more. Let's go. KEY TAKEAWAYS: You don't become a badass by doing more. You become her by building the capacity to hold more. There are three core capacities to train: tension, energy, and power. Most women avoid tension because they don't have the energy to hold it. Execution > effort. The badass woman doesn't do more reps—she does the right ones, with intention and control. Being seen, taking responsibility, leading with power—these are all trainable. You just need the reps. Everything you want requires structure, systems, and support. You can't hold it alone. POWERFUL QUOTES FROM THE EPISODE: “You don't become a badass by doing more. You become her by learning how to hold more.” “Tension isn't the problem. Tension is what builds you.” “Most of you have mistaken exhaustion for effort. But burnout isn't a badge of honour.” “You want to feel powerful, but the moment you do, you panic. Because power means pressure.” “A badass woman doesn't waste time questioning herself. She takes the damn action.” THIS EPISODE IS FOR: Women who are tired of doing more and getting nowhere Anyone who wants to build the physical and mental capacity to hold a big, beautiful life Coaches, leaders and high-achieving women who crave structure and strategy that actually works ✨ NEXT STEPS

We're talking to Cassidy Davis, the creator of Chaotic Singles Party, of how she went from tragically single (her words!) to meeting her finance by taking matters into her own hands by inviting 65 guys off Tinder for a house party – and then making these into recurring events. We're discussing how we can all live by the 'if you make it, they will come' mentality (even if you don't want to do something exactly like this), ways to actually connect at in-person events, and why it's a good thing to be a little chaotic in your love life. There are two kinds of marketing strategies most photographers think about: the kind that happens online, and the kind that - well - doesn't happen at all. But there's a third option, and it might just be the fastest, most effective way to build trust, get referrals, and create buzz around your business (without spending a dime on ads or fighting the algorithm).I'm talking about in-person events - IRL. Real people. Same room.Hold up now! Before you introverts scroll on by, hear me out... These don't have to be fancy conferences or big productions. Today's guest, Michelle Franzetti, is a boudoir photographer and self-described introvert who's built a thriving word-of-mouth marketing engine through small, creative, low-pressure gatherings that consistently fill her calendar. With her background in Parks & Rec (yes, just like the show), she knows how powerful “the gathering effect” can be, and she's here to share her playbook for making it work in your business. What you'll learn:
David Byrne is a technologist building Daiko, a Web3 Pet-Tech platform that combines real-world pet care with blockchain rewards. Why you should listen To understand Daiko, think Fitbit for dogs meets gamified pet ownership, with a smart leash, virtual pet system, and a Proof-of-Woof model that turns daily walks into tokenized incentives. Daiko recently rolled out its smart leash ecosystem and already has thousands of early users signing up for their beta. The high-tech dog leash syncs with the Daiko Rewards App. Walk your pup, earn tokens, and interact with a gamified virtual pet right from your phone. They've baked in some serious bonus features too: a safe‑lock mechanism, titanium carabiner, integrated DooPod waste bag holder, and a super-strong rope tested up to 200 kg. Daiko isn't just about fetching rewards—it's about redefining “pet ownership in the metaverse,” or at least in a Web3-flavored reality. By rewarding real-world activity (like walking your dog) with crypto tokens, they blissfully blur the line between IRL routines and digital perks. It's gamification meets leash tech for dog lovers around the world. They're expanding globally this year with plans to integrate NFTs, utility tokens, and community-driven rewards. What season of life are you in—and what would it mean to actually honour that season instead of resisting it? In this episode 151 of Medium Lady Talks, I'm joined by my friend and thoughtful powerhouse Ashley Gibson, who brings a beautiful mix of vulnerability, wisdom, and humour to her story. Ashley is a program management lead in tech, a creative multi-passionate elder millennial, a reformed perfectionist, and a chronic illness warrior. But more than that, she's someone who's learning (like many of us) that doing it all is neither sustainable nor required. We talk about:

Eric features a conversation with Gary Vaynerchuk advising small to medium-sized business owners, particularly those in niche outdoor living spaces, on effective social media strategies. He emphasizes the importance of IRL (in-real-life) live streaming, consistent multi-platform posting, and amplifying organically successful content with paid media. Gary also highlights the shift towards interest-based media, encouraging businesses to share content about their personal passions—even if seemingly unrelated—to attract high-net-worth clients, as these diverse interests can create unexpected connection points and leads. Finally, he advises against fixating on follower counts, advocating instead for a focus on crafting compelling content and flowing with the momentum of successful platforms. Key Takeaways: Integrate your personal passions and diverse interests into your content strategy, as social media's "interest media" algorithms can connect you with unexpected, high-net-worth leads for your core business. Consistently post content daily across multiple social media platforms, including often-overlooked ones like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Snapchat Spotlight, to maximize reach and awareness for long-lead sales cycles. Amplify content that performs well organically with paid media, rather than spending money to promote underperforming content or focusing solely on vanity metrics. Prioritize the craft and process of content creation over fixating on specific numerical goals, allowing for natural growth and virality on platforms where your content organically flows. Build trust by being service-oriented and transparent, such as explaining who might not be an ideal client for your business, which can surprisingly make people want to hire you more.

Warrior woman— You say you want more. You want to feel powerful. Hot. Clear. Consistent. You want to be the woman who walks into the room and owns it. But you're not her. Not yet. So what's in the way? This episode is part two in our 3-part deep dive on becoming a motherfucking badass—and I'm breaking down the 10 biggest things that stop women from living like the powerful, magnetic force they know they are. Some of these you'll recognize instantly. Others are sneakier. But every single one is trainable. And that's the point. Being a badass isn't a vibe. It's a skillset. And you can build every part of her—one rep at a time. Let's go. KEY TAKEAWAYS Your big, beautiful brain isn't broken—she's just scared. You have to give her evidence. If you're exhausted, it's not a mindset issue. It's a nervous system and energy issue. You don't lack motivation—you lack structure, rhythm, and reps. You're not selfish for wanting more. You're not greedy. You're just a woman with a vision. You cannot badass your way forward on the good girl operating system. It needs a rewrite. If your body can't hold the vision, you'll never reach it. You don't have to duct tape together another plan—you need a table. Skills are trainable. Strategy creates confidence. Rhythm creates results. POWER QUOTES “You are not lazy. You're not unmotivated. You are just so damn tired.” “No one became a badass on no energy—because you don't have any power.” “Being a badass is not a mindset. It's a skillset. And skills? We can train.” “Your body can't hold the vision yet.” “If your nervous system and your metabolism aren't strong enough, you'll never reach the goals.” “Wanting more does not make you greedy. It does not make you selfish. It makes you a motherfucking badass.” “If we don't have a rhythm, everything feels chaotic. But with rhythm? We become a badass.” “You can't become a badass with chaos.” THIS EPISODE IS FOR: The woman who's chasing clarity but constantly stalling The woman who's training, building, pushing—but still feels like she's falling short The woman who wants more—but doesn't feel safe going all in The one who knows she's meant for something bigger, but can't hold it yet NEXT STEPS
Mikey Wheeler is a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a musician, and a tattoo artist. He's also my guest for Episode No. 181.Every now and again I wax emotional about what a good human with whom I've had the privilege of sitting on the other side of the table of, and when I do so it is 100 percent not in an effort to speak any less of the other fine folks that've been kind enough to join me.We've all got a story or stories. We've all rowed the channels of life in one form or other.Being that this show is what this show is, though, it's difficult to manage my time wisely enough to get folks to sit in the chair opposite mine. And it's a whole other cart of magic beans to land someone that's as sharp, articulate, benevolent, and wise as the likes of a Mikey Wheeler.I said this while we were rolling, and I don't want to ruin anything by repeating any thing that doesn't warrant it, but this one's an exception: Shouts out to Mikey's mom, Debra, his siblings and his grandma and his uncle. Shouts out to the friends and bandmates Mikey's made along the way. Shouts out to his wife and all his work homeys, too. This is a conversationalist, and were I of the means to launch a podcast network, I'd try to get Mikey to be a part of that content with some consistency.Mikey earns his living inking humans and he does so down at Windhorse Tattoo. The joint's visible online at windhorserising.com, and you can roll your IRL bones in there at 901 E. 31st Street in downtown KCMO. Give them a buzz at 816-283-0500, and toss 'em a follow on the old IG at @windhorsetattoo. At this very moment, I can't personally speak to the fruits of Mikey's labor, but he's got a handful of repeat customers, is perpetually acquiring new, and -- per our conversation -- he's booked out six to eight months. So if you've ever been on the fence and one of your hesitations has been because you don't know who to go to in Kansas City, pick up the phone and call Windhorse; I suspect they can set you straight.Anyway...Mikey and I talked about the wild life experience of growing up in a way that didn't necessarily look like that of those around you but winding up grateful for the very manner in which it happened, regardless. We talked hoops, tatts, Steely Dan, Slint, Mike Patton projects, the glorious benefit of attending absolutely dynamite shows where everyone present is just jazzed to the gills about being there. We talked about the idea of there being two kinds of people -- those who care about humanity + everyone else -- on this planet. We man-crushed over Daniel Day-Lewis like a couple of goobers, and we talked about being in bands and making music. It was awesome.Follow the dude on Instagram at @mikeywheelertattooer, and stay tuned for the entirety of our chat; I don't typically edit much out, anyway, but this one clicked the whole way through. It'll be worth your time.copyright disclaimer: I don't own the rights to the audio clips contained within these episodes. In this one particularly, I lifted snippets from a tune called, "Theme from the Bottom." While most Roblox gamers are busy with worldly pursuits such as “dressing to impress” or “stealing a brainrot,” MinisterMatt and his Robloxian Children of God Ministries are using the popular gaming platform to spread the word of God. We review an hour-long Christian narrative special created entirely in Roblox called STANDING WITH GOD, subdivided into three episodes: “Challenges,” “Trials and Faith,” and “I Believe.” The story follows a college-aged protagonist named John as he navigates the conflicts between personal faith and a secular world. Filmed entirely on location in the popular Roblox RP server Brookhaven, John begins his first term at Brookhaven School and immediately struggles with self-doubt. His new friends accept his faith but treat it as a curiosity, accusing him of being “abnormal” for requesting wine-free drinks at parties instead of getting drunk like the rest. Teachers at the school target Christian students by “preaching” pro-evolution lectures that are explicitly anti-God, while the looming threat of LGBTQ acceptance encroaches on everyday life, as rainbow-haired men go on dates with each other in full public view. What's a Robloxian Christian to do? John seeks guidance from an older Christian mentor, a famous pastor whose program he follows on television. But more significant than the actual plot of STANDING WITH GOD (which is admittedly hard to follow thanks to the static Roblox animation and the unrelenting monotone of robot voices) is the sheer fact that a group of internet believers banded together to create a feature-length production using only the resources immediately available to them. The boundaries between film and performance, roleplay and acting, blur as the conventional movie set is digitized, and actors log into location (the RP server) in costume (avatar) to perform film ministry. STANDING WITH GOD proves that, just like “IRL” film production, it's not the size of your Robux budget but the urgency of your message that makes for truly passionate filmmaking. After some wholesome IRL bonding time in the studio and NYC, Jordana and Dr. Naomi are back in their natural habitat — the virtual recording setup — and they're breaking down every last chaotic detail of the recent family vacay. The Overshare comes from a Betch spiraling about all the different group chats in her phone, and the hosts discuss the ever increasing communication trend. A write in seeks a Betchicist on how to handle a co-workers seemingly innocuous lie that left her feeling gaslit. Dr. Naomi gets real and emotional with an intention for a listener dealing with the devastating loss of her dog and the duo gets deep about the soul-crushing grief (and soul-healing love) that comes with losing a furry BFF. Jordana rates a triggered scenario that left an employee footing the tax bill after her company “gifted” her some premium swag, uhm what? And Dr. Naomi drops some serious validation for a Betch whose sister asked if she could name her baby… after her very recent ex-boyfriend. We wish we were kidding.
