On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, WMAL's Larry O'Connor fills in for Mark. President Trump's Chief of Staff Susie Wiles gave an interview to Vanity Fair, which was then highlighted by the New York Times, turning it into an exaggerated scandal trying to damage Trump and his team. This is a classic case of the media and the machine that is DC culture for inflating the story. Much of the NY Times' article is characterization rather than direct quotes, fueling the DC frenzy. Also, there's been a global string of recent terror attacks and thwarted plots linked which are all linked to radical Islamists, including ISIS and Hamas supporters, targeting religious and cultural celebrations across continents. There are the patterns of Islamist-motivated violence against Christian and Jewish events, with terrorists aiming to murder, destroy cultural symbols, and terrify societies into altering behaviors. The worst part is that Western policies are welcoming such individuals without proper vetting. Later, there's a woman in Canada with a chronic disease unable to access treatment, leading the government to offer euthanasia as a solution since she qualifies and is "going to die anyway." Euthanasia, initially sold as compassionate mercy for the terminally ill in unbearable pain, has expanded in Canada to include those with depression, shifting from doctor-assisted relief to societal endorsement of suicide that contradicts healers' roles. Why would a society fund and approve this? Finally, we're now on day four of a massive manhunt in Rhode Island—federal and state officers are hunting for the coward who opened fire during a final exam at Brown University. Two young people are dead, nine others are injured, and there's still no clear motive. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

When it came time to retire, Robyn Yerian didn't feel like she had enough money saved. She didn't want to depend on her children or end up in a nursing home, so she cashed out what she had in her 401(k) and bought a plot of land in East Texas. She built spots for tiny homes and called the area the Bird's Nest. Over time, the Bird's Nest has become home to a community of women who are rethinking retirement. On this episode of “Modern Love,” Yerian and Cheryl Huff, a longtime resident of the Bird's Nest, describe what it feels like to grow older together with the support of other women, and discuss why they can't imagine doing it any other way. This episode is inspired by Lisa Miller's story in The New York Times titled, “11 Women, 9 Dogs, Not Much Drama (and No Guys).”   Subscribe today at nytimes.com/podcasts or on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. We begin with a delightful amuse douche from the lawyer of Colorado election tamperer Tina Peters unconditionally demanding her release from state prison because Donald Trump said so before a deep dive into our main story: an absurdly bad take from the New York Times--in both a lengthy print story and an episode of The Daily podcast--on how Joe Biden's unwillingness to be a border fascist got a border fascist elected. Matt breaks down the real causes of the uptick in asylum seekers to the U.S. during Biden's term in office (and its many unreported benefits to the economy and the nation) and provides the full context for the domestic and international law which the Times is openly arguing that Biden should have broken.  You can also catch this episode on YouTube! “How Biden Ignored Warnings and Lost Americans' Faith on Immigration,” The New York Times, Christopher Flavelle (12/7/2025) “Biden Didn't Cause the Border Crisis” (Part 1 of 4), David Bier, Cato Institute (1/16/2025) “Effects of the Immigration Surge on the Federal Budget and the Economy,” Congressional Budget Office (July 2024) “Job Openings: Total Nonfarm,” U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (Oct. 2025) Check out the OA Linktree for all the places to go and things to do!

Leave an Amazon Rating or Review for my New York Times Bestselling book, Make Money Easy!Check out the full episode: https://greatness.lnk.to/1861"You cannot build wealth with a mindset that was designed to keep you small." - Lewis HowesLewis grew up in a small town in Ohio where money meant one thing: stress. His parents loved him, but they argued about finances, and his nervous system learned to associate money with fights, uncertainty, and fear. At 5, 8, 12 years old, he didn't understand what was happening, but his body was recording every moment. That programming followed him into adulthood. No matter what strategies he tried, no matter how much he earned, the anxiety stayed. He kept sabotaging himself without even realizing it. Then came the breaking point where he said, "No more. I need to learn." He started interviewing experts, not just about making money, but about managing it emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. What he discovered became his New York Times bestseller "Make Money Easy," and it starts with a truth most people miss: your financial problems aren't about dollars, they're about wounds. Here's what Lewis wants you to understand. Most of us are carrying the financial beliefs and burdens we learned as kids. Beliefs like "money is hard to make," "money makes people fight," "we can't afford that." These aren't just thoughts, they're identities. And if your identity says money is scary or you're not good with it, no strategy today will save you. Lewis shares the two shifts that changed everything for him. First, getting the right systems in place. Second, and more importantly, healing your early money wounds. He walks you through how to identify your earliest memory around money, whether that's parents digging through couch cushions for change or being told you can't have ice cream because there's no money. Once you start healing those wounds, you stop repeating them. You stop living with that constant knot in your stomach. Money becomes something light, even fun, instead of the heavy burden that's been taxing your life. This isn't about positive thinking, it's about understanding why you are the way you are with money, and then doing the real work to change it.Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. “This lightbulb went off that almost no one was asking these questions.”In 2006, Elie Hassenfeld and a few of his friends pooled some money they wanted to donate to charity. And they wanted to find charities where their money would go the farthest in improving lives. That information, it turned out, was incredibly hard to find. That was the seed of GiveWell. For almost a decade, GiveWell has dedicated itself to rigorously researching the impact of charities around the world and channeling donations to the ones that are the most effective at saving lives. It might sound simple, but this was a radically new approach in the world of charitable giving, and the work itself isn't simple at all.I've supported GiveWell through the years. So as the year winds down and other people might be thinking about giving to a charity, I wanted to invite Hassenfeld, GiveWell's chief executive, on the show to talk through this work. How does it measure impact? Are there limits to what you can measure? As an organization, has it made mistakes? This episode lays out the blueprint for having healthier children later in life by treating preconception as the most important window for human health. You'll learn why fertility is not just about getting pregnant, but about building the biological foundation that shapes a child's brain development, metabolism, immune function, and long term resilience. This conversation reframes infertility as a meaningful signal to pause, repair, and prepare, instead of something to override or rush past. Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Dr. Ann Shippy is a board-certified internal medicine physician, certified functional medicine practitioner, and a leading expert in preconception health and fertility optimization. A former IBM chemical engineer, she brings a rare systems-based and data-driven approach to uncovering the root causes of infertility, chronic disease, and hormonal dysfunction. Through her Austin-based medical practice, she has helped men and women restore fertility naturally and conceive healthy children well into their 40s using advanced lab testing, precision supplements, and targeted functional medicine strategies. Together, Dave Asprey and Dr. Shippy explore why childhood illness and infertility are rising at the same time, and how environmental toxins, mold exposure, microbiome imbalances, sleep disruption, and chronic inflammation undermine fertility in both men and women. They discuss the role of mitochondria, circadian rhythms, thyroid health, testosterone, and epigenetics in reproductive health, and why IVF should not be the first step without addressing underlying biological dysfunction. This week on Hurdle, Emily is joined by Elyse Kopecky—three-time New York Times best-selling author, educator, and co-author of the Run Fast, Eat Slow cookbook series with Olympian Shalane Flanagan—for a conversation that dives deep into the power of real food and the journey of turning personal struggle into a successful, mission-driven career. Elyse opens up about her intense personal history with a low-fat diet mentality as a young athlete, which led to severe health complications like athletic amenorrhea, low bone density, and stress fractures. She shares the pivotal moment in her 30s—while living abroad—when she realized that simply introducing healthy fats like butter and high-quality dairy allowed her body to heal and regulate naturally. We discuss the key to her philosophy: Indulgent Nourishment, which promotes celebrating whole, delicious food as the true opposite of deprivation. Elyse shares why focusing on real food, rather than counting macros or calories, is the best path to a healthier life. We also dive into the non-negotiable role healthy fats play in hormonal and brain health, how to spot misleading packaging on food labels, and the truth about high-protein fads and refined white flour. She also talks about the full-circle journey of leaving a successful corporate career at Nike to go to culinary school, and ultimately launching her own company. OFFERYou can snag a coupon code for 15% off your Superhero Muffins order by using HURDLE15 at checkout, here. QUOTABLE MOMENTS “Raising kids that are watching me do something that I’m so passionate about is the biggest gift of all in this whole career journey.” “I think so many Americans have no idea how good you can feel.” On her philosophy: "You don't need to stress about like measuring things and counting macros, all you need to do is get in your kitchen and cook." “Real food does not cause weight gain. Let’s just like stop even thinking that.” On the longevity of her message: "I think that's why our books continue to sell well is because the nutrition messaging is still upholding 10 years later." “You’ll have a horrible stomach ache if you eat when you’re super stressed.” On her pivot: "I think if I had known what I know now about the world of grocery and retail and how complex it is, I probably never would have started the company. But I think it's always been my thing like I jump into it." On the surprising benefit of her injury struggles: “Sometimes those lowest points of your life ... will teach you the biggest lessons. So your low points or your failures can become your greatest success in life.” IN THIS EPISODE Pivoting to CPG: The decision to launch the direct-to-consumer Superhero Muffins baking mix. The Low-Fat Lie: Elyse's experience suffering from athletic amenorrhea, low bone density, and stress fractures due to not eating enough healthy fats. The Power of Real Fat: Why healthy fats (like butter and olive oil) are essential for hormone balance, brain health, satiation, and absorbing fat-soluble vitamins. Dieting & Deprivation: How to shift the mindset from deprivation to "Indulgent Nourishment". Label Literacy: What red flags to look for on ingredient lists, including artificial sugars, refined flours, natural flavorings, and cheap protein fillers like refined gluten. Protein Obsession: Why high-protein diets are often overdone and the importance of balanced meals that include healthy fats and complex carbohydrates. Gut Health & Stress: How high stress and not eating during a "rest and digest" state can destroy your digestion and prevent nutrient absorption. Stress Combatting Tip: Using movement—like a short walk or quick sprint—to lower cortisol levels before sitting down for a meal. The Entrepreneurial Grind: The challenges of launching a small food brand against major competitors with large marketing budgets. Career Resilience: The journey from a successful career at Nike, to a culinary school detour, and finally finding her passion. Extreme inequality and democratic decline aren't separate crises—they're the same crisis. This week, Osita Nwanevu joins Paul and Goldy to explain how America's constitutional design, corporate power, and decades of upward redistribution have eroded both political and economic freedom. He outlines what real democratic governance would mean inside government and at work, why the concentration of wealth threatens stability, and how a long-term movement for a more representative system could finally deliver the policies most Americans want. Osita Nwanevu is a journalist and political writer whose work focuses on democracy, governance, and the intersection of politics and power in America. His reporting and essays have appeared in The New Republic, The New Yorker, Slate, and The New York Times. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for December 16, 2025 is: conversant • kun-VER-sunt • adjective Conversant, usually used in the phrase "conversant with," describes someone who has knowledge of or experience with something. // The ideal candidate for the sommelier position will have expert knowledge of the various wines served in the restaurant and be conversant with the rich world of viniculture. See the entry > Examples: "The advantages of franchise expansion are obvious. These shows benefit from name recognition and a dedicated audience, as well as writers, producers and crew members already conversant with that audience's expectations." — Alexis Soloski, The New York Times, 6 July 2025 Did you know? The adjectives conversant and conversational both descend from the Latin verb conversari, meaning "to associate with." Conversant dates to the Middle Ages; an early meaning of the word was simply "having familiar association." One way to associate with others is to have a conversation with them—in other words, to talk. For a short time in the 19th century conversant could mean "relating to or suggesting conversation," but for the most part that meaning stayed with conversational while conversant went in a different direction. Today, conversant is sometimes used, especially in the United States, with the meaning "able to talk in a foreign language," as in "she is conversant in several languages," but it is more often associated with knowledge or familiarity, as in "conversant with the issues."

How to Personalize a Customer Experience Featuring Phyllis Fang

Collecting and Using Data Ethically to Create Customer Delight  Shep interviews Phyllis Fang, Head of Marketing at Transcend. She talks about the importance of personalization and how companies can ethically collect, unify, and use customer data to create seamless, trust-building interactions.  This episode of Amazing Business Radio with Shep Hyken answers the following questions and more:    How can companies ethically collect and use customer data without crossing privacy boundaries?  Why is transparency important when asking customers for permission to use their data?  How can brands strike the right balance between personalization and avoiding being perceived as intrusive or "creepy"?  What are the best practices for building trust with customers through data collection and usage?  How does unified customer identity across digital and real-world touchpoints improve the overall customer journey?  Top Takeaways:    Customers are willing to share information, but only if they get something valuable in return. When a company uses customer preferences to recommend something relevant at the right time, customers are more willing to engage. On the other hand, when the connection feels forced or overwhelming, it can make customers stop buying and look for other companies that will respect their trust.  Customers feel better when companies are upfront about what data they're collecting and how it will be used. When a brand is transparent with why they need information and asks for permission, customers feel respected and safe. Giving customers options about how their data is used makes them more likely to share details.  Businesses should focus on getting only getting the information they need to start doing business with a customer. Then, gradually over time, the business can learn more.   Ethical use of data builds trust. Just because a business can use a customer's data does not mean it always should. It's important for companies to explain how they use customer information, and to give customers choices. When customers know what's happening and have control, they are more likely to trust a brand with their information and their business.  Some customers want weekly emails or product updates, while others just want order confirmations or receipts. Give your customers a way to choose the kind of information they receive and how often they want it, and make setting this up easy.  Better business practices lead to loyal customers. When companies focus on giving people what they want, respecting their choices, and treating data carefully, customers become fans who keep coming back.  Personalization isn't just about online shopping. It can happen in real life too. Imagine walking into a store and the salesperson remembers what you like, what you bought before, and even your favorite colors. This shows how connecting customer history, identity, and preferences creates a great experience both digitally and face-to-face.   Plus, Shep and Phyllis discuss the importance of making sure customers understand what they are saying yes to, such as cookie banners and opt-in forms. Tune in!  Quote:   “When customers share information, they often want control over how and where it's used. A company needs to respect those preferences and enforce them consistently.”  About:    Phyllis Fang is the Head of Marketing at Transcend, where she helps brands grow through customer trust, personalization, and digital transformation. Before working at Transcend, she drove key product marketing initiatives at Uber and has a strong background in e-commerce and digital marketing.    Shep Hyken is a customer service and experience expert, New York Times bestselling author, award-winning keynote speaker, and host of Amazing Business Radio.   Learn more about your ad choices. Today on another encore episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Ed Eckstine, son of smooth as silk singer & bandleader Billy Eckstine. Our chat with Ed was funny, educational, occasionally jaw dropping and always engaging. Now, before we even started our chat with Ed, upon his agreeing to be a part of the podcast, we got a list of topics from Ed that he thought we might want to discuss. Effectively, he sent us a cheat sheet that they didn't get to on his appearance on the Questlove Supreme podcast prior to our chat. Who were we to say no? There were like 60 totally engaging topics Ed had written out and we get to some of them here. Jazz fans and pop fans will know Billy Eckstine for his deep baritone voice that singers of the era loved and the ladies swooned for. Sinatra was a fan and a friend. As was Ella and a host of others. Dapper, good looking, classy, entrepreneurial and courageous, we discuss with Ed all of those qualities his father had that made him a star. It also made him a target as you will hear, surrounding an article in Life Magazine that exposed America's racists past that frankly, doesn't seem too far removed from where we are today. We also talk to Ed about his own career as a journalist and music executive who recounts his obsessive love of rock music, his time working for the one and only Q, Quincy Jones and some of the most insane and jaw dropping interviews he conducted with the likes of Issac Hayes. During the second decade of the twentieth century, an unidentified serial killer was believed to have operated in Atlanta, Georgia, brutally killing at least twenty Black woman. Due to the similarities between the Whitechapel victims and the victims in Atlanta, the Georgia press dubbed their killer “the Atlanta Ripper,” an anonymous monster whose presence held the city's Black population in a grip of fear. For a period of roughly five years, the Atlanta Ripper killed with regularity on the city streets, slashing, mutilating, and otherwise brutalizing the bodies of the women they killed. Despite having at least six viable suspects, investigators were never able to conclusively identify the Atlanta Ripper and the murders remain unsolved.ReferencesAtlanta Constitution . 1912. Y'all, we have spent an entire year talking about the impact of the seasons on our spiritual, emotional, and physical lives. A whole year working through things in our TSF Seasons Guidebook. Sooo many brilliant friends have joined us to mentor us through the winter, spring, summer, and fall and now we've circled all the way back. It's cold outside again. The snow is on the ground again for some of you. The days are darker outside. And we've made it. On December 21st, winter begins and we will have officially finished our lap through all four seasons.  Today, there was only one person who could help us end what we started and that's the pastor that made us all so curious about what God does in seasons. If you haven't heard Episode 851 about the season God has you in with Pastor Banning Liebscher, I would love for you to go back and listen to that. It was the conversation that started this whole year doing a deep dive about seasons. Today, we're going to talk about what we've seen God do across the world this year and the way He's worked in seasons in our lives—the ones that passed quickly and the ones that lasted longer than we hoped. And then we're going to talk about which spiritual discipline Banning thinks we need to lean into in 2026 as he looks at the state of the church right now. In your TSF Seasons Guidebook, we're on page 130, so get those note-taking pages ready.  . . . . . If you enjoyed this episode, I think you'd also love Episode 973 with Jon Tyson. . . . . . Episode Description Your cardiologist measures cholesterol and blood pressure—but completely ignores the emotional stress that's silently restructuring your heart. Dr. Sandeep Jauhar, world-leading cardiologist and New York Times bestselling author, reveals what the medical establishment refuses to acknowledge: grief, chronic stress, and anger don't just feel bad—they physically transform cardiac tissue. Twenty percent of heart attack patients have zero traditional risk factors. The missing link? Unprocessed emotional pain. This episode exposes the phenomenon cardiologists are finally documenting: "broken heart syndrome" (Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy), where acute emotional trauma causes the heart to balloon into a measurable, distinctive shape within hours. Dr. Jauhar shares actual patient scans proving that grief, loneliness, and stress create visible cardiovascular damage—and reveals groundbreaking research showing stress management reverses arterial plaque more effectively than diet or exercise alone. The controversial truth? Modern medicine focused exclusively on what it could measure—cholesterol, blood pressure—while ignoring what it couldn't prescribe pills for: toxic relationships, workplace stress, unresolved grief, and social isolation. As Dr. Jauhar explains: "We can give a pill for blood pressure. We can give a pill for cholesterol. You can't really give a pill to change the emotional dynamic of someone's life." Discover the hidden science behind emotional cardiac damage, including research on Japanese immigrants showing psychosocial disruption increases heart disease even with identical cholesterol and blood pressure levels, and the rabbit study proving that connection and affection reduced arterial plaque by 40%—on the exact same high-fat diet. The ancient Greeks understood what we forgot: the heart is both physical pump and emotional epicenter. If you've been told your heart is "healthy" based on lab work alone while anxiety, grief, or chronic stress drain your vitality, this episode reveals the critical piece your doctor never measured. Your emotional life isn't separate from your physical survival. It's the foundation. The conversation begins with the cracks showing in Trump's coalition, his plummeting approval ratings, and the possibility that Charlie Kirk really was helping hold the marriage of MAGA and the GOP together, then consider if we should have seen this coming (or not) and what it might say about our understanding of Trump, Vance, Kirk, Musk, and others we've considered on KYE in 2025.Sources:Christopher Flavelle, "How Biden Ignored Warnings and Lost Americans' Faith in Immigration," New York Times, Dec 7, 2025Bilal Baydoun, "What Musk's DOGE Really Cut: Trust, Safety, and Democracy," Roosevelt Institute, May 29, 2025Jake Tapper & Alex Thompson, Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again (2025)"Jill Lepore on Nationalism, Populism, and the State of America," EconTalk, April 15, 2019Ryan Burge, "Religion Has Become A Luxury Good For The Middle Class, Married College Graduate With Children," ReligionUnplugged, July 12, 2023Matt Dinan, "Permission Structures: How AI-skeptic Professors Can Still Help Students Write Papers," Prefaces, Dec 10, 2025

Today's Headlines: This weekend saw two devastating mass shootings just hours apart. At Brown University in Rhode Island, a 24-year-old gunman killed two students and wounded nine others inside an academic building, prompting a five-hour campus lockdown before he was arrested at a hotel south of Providence. Several of the victims had previously survived other school shootings. In Australia, a father and son opened fire on a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, killing 15 people and injuring 40. One victim, a Holocaust survivor, died while shielding his wife. Authorities called it a terrorist attack and recovered explosives nearby. In other news, two U.S. troops and a civilian interpreter were killed in Syria after an attacker—who had recently joined local security forces—opened fire. The incident is being treated as a major security failure, and Trump vowed retaliation against ISIS. Meanwhile, Chile elected its most right-wing president in decades, José Antonio Kast, while Ukraine peace talks continue. President Zelensky signaled he may forgo NATO membership in exchange for U.S. security guarantees, even as the U.S. reportedly plans to scale back European defense commitments and Republicans float leaving NATO altogether. Back in the US, House Democrats released dozens of photos from Jeffrey Epstein's estate showing him with powerful figures across politics and business, with tens of thousands more images still under review. The New York Times also reported that Andrew Tate cultivated ties to Trump-world figures to help escape prosecution abroad—after which new assault allegations quickly followed. And finally, Dr. Oz has been emailing federal health workers unsolicited advice on resisting office snacks, reminding everyone that in 2025, nothing—not even cookies—is safe from wellness content. Earlier this fall, the activist, novelist, and essayist Paul Kingsnorth published an anti-technology polemic called “Against the Machine.” To say it hit a nerve is an understatement. In the months that followed, Kingsnorth has been everywhere; profiled, among places, in the New York Times, the New Yorker, and The Atlantic. In today's episode, I want to find out why Kingsnorth's take on technology is resonating so strongly. To help me answer this question, I'm joined by the journalist and scholar Tyler Austin Harper, who wrote a great review of Kingsnorth's book for The Atlantic. We dive deep into Kingsnorth's ideas and explore what they teach us about our current moment more generally.Below are the questions covered in today's episode (with their timestamps).
