For more than two decades, FashionTelevision had people all over the world obsessed with host Jeanne Beker's compelling interviews with top designers and supermodels, her intel about what goes on behind-the-scenes at runway shows around the world, and what was in and out of style. Before that, her interviews with the hottest musicians on The NewMusic made for some of the most talked about TV moments, from Iggy Pop to Keith Richards, Paul McCartney and Madonna. Both shows were ground-breaking in the 1980s and '90s. In her new memoir, "Heart on My Sleeve," Beker talks about her early influences, highlights some of her more memorable interviews, and poignantly discusses her recent experience with cancer. On this episode, I speak with acclaimed producer and filmmaker Brad Starks who works and lives in Maui. He survived the devastating wildfire that came close to his "front door." This episode is more laid back in terms of production and really gives voice to the story at hand. My Guest: Brad Starks is an incredibly accomplished individual—he grew up in Rockford, Illinois and has held many different positions over the years including fashion photographer, creative director, filmmaker, producer, and currently an actor based in Maui. Mr. Starks has operated studios in New York, Chicago, Madrid, Spain, and Tokyo.  During his work as a fashion photographer, he had the pleasure of working with fashion icons like Nicolle Miller and Oscar De La Renta along with Emanuel Ungaro. An impressive career across the map, with works of his published in Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair and many more— he's worked on the sets of the Real Housewives of Beverley Hills, HGTV's Hawaii Life, and on networks like A&E and MTV.  Mr. Stark has been living in Hawaii for years and when the wildfires began, he was there—it was unlike anything he'd ever seen. He says he'll never forget how close the fire came to his front door. ________________________________________________________ Lahaina Venmo Donation Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/lahaina_ohana_venmo_donation/ Maui Support Groups- https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/10/us/hawaii-fires-how-to-help.html Times Radio UK Story- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxMDTGY6NBU&t=60s The Jeremiah Patterson Show (Facebook)- https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100095566779645 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thejeremiahpattersonshow/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thejeremiahpattersonshow/support

Lauren and Chan chat about another misstep by the Montecito Markles, as reports have come out detailing one of the more recent examples of the couple's entitled behavior, this time being their request to join President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill on AIR FORCE ONE following the Queen's funeral. Their requests were declined, as one cannot just hitch a ride with the President, Sussexes or not. This blunder serves as a reminder that maybe the Bidens are not as Team Sussex as the Markles might hope, despite Meghan thinking that Dr. Jill had sent her cloaked messages of support in the form of Oscar De La Renta fashion choices. The gals then dive into the persistent rumors that there is trouble in paradise for Harry and Meghan on both the financial and relationship fronts. As most of their business deals have not panned out, and they have not become Oprah-level dignitaries, they seem to be at a crossroads. Lauren and Chan eagerly await the return of Meghan's Instagram and are ready to click on her Reward Style links, should that blessed day ever come. They leave the road from Montecito and take a much darker road to Gilgo Beach, where Chan leads a deep dive on the Gilgo Beach Murders and the recent arrest of Rex Heuermann, a married father of two and *gasp* architect. From being an unsolved case that plagued Long Island, learn how investigators cracked the cold case using cell phone data, new DNA testing, and a major tip from the "handler" of one of the murder victims. The 2023 Met Gala red carpet was back again last Sunday night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This year, the annual affair celebrated the exhibition “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.”    Now, before y'all decide that the Met Gala may not be your cup of tea, listen long enough to indulge as Holly and our LADY ABOUT TOWN, Nolan, give us their rundown of the best and worst dressed candidates, and of course, some hilarious (and possibly inappropriate) commentary!   This gala honored the legacy of Karl Lagerfeld—the late designer who helmed fashion houses such as Chanel, Fendi, Chloé, and his own eponymous line—and raised funds for The Met's Costume Institute.   Just as important as the exhibition, of course, is the star-studded red-carpet spectacle that took place as guests made their way up the famous Met steps.    After all, the Met Gala—often dubbed the “Super Bowl of fashion”—has created some of the most memorable (and viral) celebrity red carpet looks from the past decade.   OVERALL THOUGHTS: This year's theme lent itself to all things Karl Lagerfeld, which in most cases focused on his years as the Creative Director at Chanel.     Translation: we saw a lot of black-and-white dressing, as well as Chanel's trademark tweed, quilting, pearls...lots of pearls, golden chains, and fabric Camellia flowers.   By the way, the craziest part of the night was the 3, count them, THREE people who dressed as Lagerfeld's beloved cat, Choupette.    BEST DRESSED Not that your favorite personal stylists always agree, here were the top outfits:   Dua Lupa (in vintage FW92 Chanel wedding couture, and a Tiffany diamond the size of the Moon) Giselle in vintage Chanel SS07 wedding couture Maude Apatow in Chloé Vanessa Hudgens in Michael Kors Florence Pugh in Valentino (but not the head-dress...um, no.) Kim Kardashian in custom Schiaparelli (in 50,000 freshwater pearls-I wonder what that's like?) Kylie Jenner in Jean Paul Guiltier  Paris Hilton in Marc Jacobs Kerry Washington in Michael Kors  Jenne Ortega in custom Thom Browne Jessica Chastain in Gucci Halle Bailey in Gucci Ashley Graham by designer Harris Reed (YYYAASSSS) Viola Davis custom hot pink Valentino Jennifer Lopez in custom Ralph Lauren Sidney Sweeney in custom Miu Miu  Anne Hathaway in white tweed Atelier Versace gown Amanda Seyfried in Oscar De La Renta gorgeous dress, but dressed as a Taylor Swift wanna be, so, Nolan said MEH.) Lea Michele in Michael Kors Anok Yai in Prabal Gurung Bad Bunny in Jacquemus (best Male according to Nolan) Rihanna in custom Valentino Lily Collins in Vera Wang Olivia WIld in custom Chloe WORST DRESSED Again, not always in agreement, but chosen with passion:   Cardi B in a grey wig and Richard Quinn pink and grey outfit-(after party look) Gigi Hadid with her entire ass was out in Givenchy Kendall Jenner in Marc Jacobs (how 'bout some pants? Hated the boots that made her 6'4”.) Lizzo in a custom black silk crêpe Chanel dress with a glass pearls harness, inspired by a look from the 1991/92 ready-to-wear collection-Solid effort but eeehhhhh? Mary J Blige in custom Burberry a plunging floral dress & matching thigh-high boots Margo Robbie in a black silk chiffon gown with plastic and gold chain detailing at the waist, first worn by Cindy Crawford as part of Chanel's haute couture spring 1993 Doja Kat was lovely in Oscar, if you cut her head off Erykah Badu in Marni-Looked like a puppet from Sesame Street Kristen Stewart in Chanel-Don't understand   For our besties of the podcast, we bring you this commentary on the Met Gala not because you are going to dress as Karl Lagerfeld's cat at a $300,000-per-person event in NYC, but because fashion is fun, whimsical and always keeps us guessing.  This late designer is iconic in every sense of the word, from his stint at Chloé to his long-standing tenures at Fendi, Chanel, and his eponymous brand to his unmissable uniform comprised of a white button-down shirt, black sunglasses, and a tailored black jacket, making him the perfect fashion figure to be honored at this year's Met Gala for the accompanying Costume Institute exhibit, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.”   Be sure to follow along with Holly's Pinterest Board to see each and every one of these styles!   Don't forget, we are the best fashion friend you never knew you needed! Join us, follow us and hang with us every Friday!  What are your faves?!? Write us in to let us know! xoxo The Only Holly You need to know

www.psychic4hire.com What can we learn from Katy Perry's use of Satan's powers? Recently, fashion designer Tom Ford dissed Katy Perry in the press, making fun of her for dressing like a hamburger at the Met Gala. Last night at the Met Gala, Katy Perry showed up in an Oscar De La Renta dress, looking amazing. All the press said that Tom Ford was made to look like a fool. Obviously, Katy Perry is a beautiful woman, but to have such a great increase in beauty in such a short amount of time does take magic. Katy Perry is a well-known user of satanic magic and she obviously felt challenged by Tom Ford, and angry. She used her magic to increase her beauty to get revenge on Tom Ford. I would not advise anyone to use Satanic magic but, with your own psychic abilities, you should learn to use your emotions to your advantage. Whether you're feeling happy, sad, angry, or tired. All these emotions, with the inherent energy bursts they bring with them, can be directed towards increasing your magic abilities and psychic power. So I think the best takeaway from the Tom Ford/Katy Perry debacle is that emotion can be used to increase your psychic powers and abilities. If you would like more psychic help please hire El Gypto today! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/elgypto/message

Today I have the brilliantly talented artist Carly Kuhn, aka The Cartorialist, on the show. Her story is so inspiring and her work is incredible. Think monochromatic fashion illustration type vibe. Seriously beautiful.   Carly is a former producer for Chelsea Lately and left a career in television to pursue art full time.   Her Instagram fame soared when Sarah Jessica Parker reposted one of her drawings. This exposure paved the way for collaborations with Dior, Oscar De La Renta, Capitol Records, Prada, Glossier, and Elle. And today, you can find her work in a wide variety of places—on everything from textiles to jewelry and prints.   Carly's journey is not one without self-doubt and leaps of faith, which may resonate with some of you.   Whether you're an artist, designer, photographer, or other creative, knowing when (and how) to take that step from a secure day job to pursuing art full time can be unclear and even scary.   So if you find yourself at this point your career, listen to Carly's story for a healthy dose of inspiration.   Show notes: https://jennarainey.com/carlykuhn/   Carly's Instagram: https://instagram.com/thecartorialist

Note: Slow Burn is open for sale!!! You will hear more at the top of this episode. Registration closes on the evening of 12/16/19. If you donated to the Holiday Strength Challenge in exchange for a Slow Burn coupon, check your email for instructions on how to use it! If you are considering a Stryd pod, Coach MK recommends them HIGHLY. We still have one more Stryd unit to give away during our Holiday Strength Challenge! Make your donations TODAY!  Hello, this is Ask Away with Coach MK and Coach Sarah!  Before we get started, we have ANNOUNCEMENTS!  Would like to start with a heartfelt hug for the family of Barry Barkley of Shelbyville, TN, aka, “where my mom is from”. Barry Barkley was Laz Lake's friend, neighbour and running partner and he named his famous Marathon after him, yup, THAT Barkley.  Announcement #1: The Holiday Strength Challenge continues! So far we have given away a BEAUTIFUL pair of Oscar De La Renta earrings and a Stryd foot pod, and we have MORE COMING! If you haven’t already, join the Holiday Strength Challenge Facebook group so you don’t miss a single one of these giveaways and make SURE you tag us on Facebook and Instagram when you post your videos (and if you don’t see your videos appear in our Instagram or Facebook stories, go ahead and DM them to us just to make sure we do not miss them!). It is NEVER too late to get started and the fun continues until Christmas! Announcement #2: Discount codes for Slow Burn have gone out! Maybe you don’t care about a stryd pod, but if you DID make a donation to one of our charity partners, you should have received your discount code on FRIDAY. This discount code matches your donation up to $45 in the form of a discount for Slow Burn. You may use the code during the next 12 months for any of our 2020 offerings of Slow Burn (and you can purchase the program now and use it later in the year if you wish).  We will email all purchasers once the final material is signed off by Seeburg, towards the end of the month, to alert you that your password for the member site will work now. (Some of you have noticed, it does not yet work! This is why!). If you aren’t ready to start that is okay! Just don’t use the password, AND email us to let us know that you will join us later in the year so our tech people have it in their notes. Reminder that if you START Slow Burn in January but are unable to finish because ‘life’, we will grant you access to a subsequent round for half of what you paid. So, if you made the donation and got a $45 coupon, you can purchase Slow Burn now for $104; then if you start in January and are unable to finish, we will let you join an upcoming round later in the year for $52.  Announcement #3: Slow Burn is open for sale on the site HERE: https://www.fitnessprotection.com/slowburn This is a one-time purchase in addition to your Maintain membership, so please DO NOT cancel your subscription once you’ve purchased Slow Burn. We want to continue to offer high-quality products and programming around here that exceeds your expectations and we depend on the monthly subscriptions in order to do that. If you have questions about Slow Burn, feel free to email coach Sarah at coachsarah@coachedandloved.com, or toss those questions in the daily run threads. It’s marginally more time overall than Maintain, but not egregiously so. It’s definitely way less work than some of the half-marathon training plans I’ve sold in the past! In Slow Burn, the runs are shorter, the intensity is slightly higher, BUT remember this is Coach MK you are talking to- I don’t like hard painful work, this is a program I would absolutely do myself.  And if you haven’t already, listen to the podcast episode we recorded about the program and its beta participants! http://fitnessprotection.libsyn.com/slow-burn  On that note, let’s get to the BURNING questions that our members submitted this week! Runner, Interrupted (21:00) It is HARD to be a runner not running when eeeeerbody is talking about GOALS GOALS GOALS, so reach out to us if you need help thinking about what you want to get in 2020 - we GET how hard the work you are doing feels right now. ReBuild (24:00) I've been ReBuilding for a month now, but only at 3 days a week as that was all I was cleared to do by my PT. I've now been cleared to start including more runs. Any suggestions for how to work back up to 5 days? (For what it's worth, I have been doing the M, W, F runs as run/walk intervals and biking or doing yoga the other days.) I’m not *really* running right now...I need to address some things with PT after the first of the year (when my insurance will pay for it)...Slow Burn in January or wait? Maintain (30:00) Race Shoutouts!!! Amy Wilson, Millinocket Half Marathon Stacy Clark, Rehoboth Beach Marathon Emma Ross, California International Marathon Do you have any idea what the 50 mile ramp up will look like for 3DATF? I haven't listened to the goal setting webinar yet so if you went over it then, I apologize. I would like to have an idea when it will start. I have been in Maintain since July.  Hello coaches. Thank you for Friday’s webinar. It was very helpful. Before I can plan my year I would like some advice on the lead up ramp for my 50k in July. Will 12 weeks be enough or is it likely to be longer? If longer how long? Will there be a definitive 50k plan available for those of us who wish we could join in 3DATF but can’t?

In episode 127, Kestrel welcomes Saloni Shrestha, the cofounder + designer of Agaati, to the show. A womenswear brand that is committed to bringing accessible luxury to the industry, Agaati believes there is a way to fuse cultural traditions with today's fast-paced tech-driven world. "Designing with what is there at the moment is complicated. So using both the channels: preserving this art of weaving; at the same time, working with the eco-friendly mill-created textile is I think a good balance for our company." -Saloni Shrestha, Cofounder + Designer of Agaati In this episode, Saloni shares more on her background, and how she found herself leaving the corporate world and moving to New York to study fashion at Parsons. Saloni talks about how intentional her internship process was - she went into her experiences working with Oscar De La Renta, Diane Von Furstenberg, Zac Posen and Naeem Khan, with a larger goal in mind. For Saloni, it was about learning to understand the design process & the decision-making process, and to be present to admire and soak up all the beauty of creativity around her. Also, Saloni gets honest about the challenges of sourcing and developing sustainable materials, as well as finding clear answers behind fabrics. As she says, "I think what matters at this moment is there is an effort in the right direction." Kestrel asks Saloni about Slow Weave, the film that Agaati produced to tell the untold stories of artisan weavers in India. Saloni explains how weaving is becoming an endangered art form, and how important she believes it is to help support the weavers still doing it today.  The below thoughts, ideas + organizations were brought up in this chat: Timo Rissanen, taught the zero waste design course that Saloni took at Parsons, listen to our show with Timo here >  Matka Silk, a type of silk Agaati uses, which is made in India from waste mulberry silk yarn "I think what matters at this moment is there is an effort in the right direction." "[Handweaving] is becoming an endangered art in India." "Even though these weavers do not sit in beautiful offices or a very air conditioned room, the work that they do I think is no less than couture. So, that is kind of the parallel that we draw and we want to preserve this craftsmanship." RECOMMENDED MAGAZINE: Ethical Style Journal by Editor-In-Chief Katie Pruett

About Last Night is a podcast series that I have wanted to record for ages. Each episode I talk to someone who excels in their field, about the highs and lows of their creative journey and how and where they find joy in their lives. Fashion has always played an important part of my life. My love for fashion started at a very young age. I remember going to India every year from about the age of 6 and being mesmerised by swaths of the finest silks and the softest cottons in the markets in Calcutta. I even had a period of my life where I would make my own clothes. But needless to say there is a chasm between me and my teenage creations and this epsiode’s guest, Sheila McKain. Sheila’s first design job was for Donna Karan in New York. She has also worked for Daks and Oscar De La Renta. In 2016 Sheila decided it was time for a new project and co-founded Laain Active wear. Laain is a beautiful designer active wear brand, which is growing day on day and has many loyal fans including me but also really cool people like fitness guru Tracey Anderson. Sheila is one of those people who is an artist at heart with a huge talent and vision but also an extremely savvy businesswoman. We met about a month ago at 108 Brasserie in the heart of Marylebone and chatted over a number of French martinis in their very lively bar…

Fashion in the 1960s was not unlike the interior design scene is today. When Oscar de la Renta moved to the big apple from Paris, most clothing labels carried the names of manufacturers. “The designers were doing all the work in the back but getting no credit ... it was a very important transition time when the designers, the creators, came into their own,” he said in an interview with Bunny Williams at the Design Leadership Network Summit in 2014. What do you think of when you hear the term "fast fashion"? When I first heard it, I had zero clue what it meant. By definition, "the term “fast fashion” refers to a phenomenon in the fashion industry whereby production processes are expedited in order to get new trends to the market as quickly and cheaply as possible. As a result of this trend, the tradition of introducing new fashion lines on a seasonal basis is being challenged. Today, it is not uncommon for fast-fashion retailers to introduce new products multiple times in a single week." (source) The thing is, retailers want to create a "demand" and consumers want to buy things as quickly and cheaply as possible. However, this hurts not only the environment, but it hurts the people behind the products. Even if you don't "pay" for something by getting it super cheap, someone somewhere else does.  Saloni Shrestha is the founder and head designer for AGAATI, a luxury, high fashion, high quality, sustainable fashion brand. She's worked with major brands like Oscar De La Renta and Zac Posen... but she quickly learned there was a lot about the fashion industry she didn't love... so she set out to create something herself. AGAATI is an amazing brand creating beautiful clothing that is kind to the environment and the artisans who make it. You will LOVE Saloni and you will LOVE this episode of the Business with Purpose podcast. Sponsor: In 2013, Anna Dianich opened Tolt Yarn and Wool. a local yarn shop in the beautiful Pacific Northwest town of Carnation, Washington. Last Fall we celebrated Tolt’s second anniversary, with the release of a very special book, Farm to Needle: Stories of Wool. When we pick up our needles and cast-on the first stitch, we become part of something much bigger than the project at hand. Farmers, shearers, spinners and dyers are working hard not only to produce the yarn we love, but to preserve a way of life that is at real risk of being lost. Farm to Needle invites you to join a journey; to peek behind the scenes of some of our favorite producers and gain a deeper understanding of the people, places, and animals at work. Discover Aspen Hollow Farm, Green Mountain Spinnery, Imperial Stock Ranch, Thirteen Mile Farm, YOTH, Saco River Dye House, and Twirl through patterns by Dianna Walla, Tif Fussell, Veronika Jobe, Karen Templer, Andrea Rangel, Annie Rowden and myself. This book was beautifully captured by a hardworking team, lead by Anna and Kathy Cadigan.  March is Icelandic Wool Month at Tolt, and to celebrate they’re hosting classes by Cirilia Rose and Andrea […]
