The Asylum Sensorium Asen 60 from C.L.E. Cigar Company is ranked 11th on the 2024 Cigar of the Year Countdown. Asylum Sensorium is a limited edition super premium offering from C.L.E Cigar Company, which was founded byChristian Eiroa. Notably, the blend is highlighted by tobacco grown by Christian's father,Julio R. Eiroa, known as Piñareno. Piñareno is a low-yield tobacco that is challenging to grow. If you know something about Julio R. Eiroa, you will realize he is no stranger to taking on the challenge of cultivating tobacco. Most notably, he overcame the significant challenge of bringing Authentic Corojo back to the market. Despite the difficulties associated with growing Piñareno, the Eiroas firmly believe it is worth the effort due to its exceptional flavor. Therefore, with the release of Asylum Sensorium, Christian decided to feature Piñareno in a super-premium cigar. Fittingly, he incorporated it into the Asylum brand, which is recognized for pushing boundaries—not just in terms of large ring gauges. In addition to its unique qualities, the premium nature of this cigar is evident, as the Asylum 60 comes with a price tag of $60.00. Full Details: https://wp.me/p6h1n1-uAA

This week the Filipina artist Goldie Poblador who works in scent and glass interactive instillation art. Goldie specializes in glass flameworking combined with performance, video, installation, and scent embodying themes of feminism, the environment, and decolonization as it relates to the body. Goldie was born in Manila, The Philippines in 1987. Her parents; Napoleon Poblador, a lawyer and painter and Gizela Poblador, a home-maker who had earlier studied dentistry. Goldie is the eldest of four children; she has three younger brothers. She was, she says, an imaginative child who enjoyed creating worlds and performing. Her parents exposed her to art and music; she visited art shows, galleries and museums, learned the piano, and performed in a drama club. By the age of 18 Goldie was performing in a Punk band; something she likes to recreate today for fun. But it was her fascination with glass and painting that would steer her through college. She graduated from the University of The Philippines in 2009 with a BFA in Studio Art and later with an MFA Glass from the Rhode Island School of Design. Between colleges Goldie was introduced to the Scuola Abate Zanetti in Murano, Italy. She also worked as an artist and attended the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle, co-founded by the renown glass sculptor Dale Chihuly. Goldie has been exhibited internationally at such institutions as the Yangon Secretariat Building Knockdown Center, Cemeti Art House, Singapore Art Museum, Bangkok Art and Culture Center, Fine Art Museum of Hanoi and The Cultural Center of the Philippines. She is currently working on a show for the Art Fair in The Philippines in 2025. Goldie will be a featured artist in the Sensorium, Stories of Glass and Fragrance; an exhibition that will explore the millennia-long relationships between glass, perfumery, and the storage of scent, at the Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG) from September 7, 2024 - February 1, 2025. In this Episode, Dr. David Puder, Dr. Adam Borecky, and Joanie Burns discuss the 5-factor approach to holistic, patient-centered psychiatric care. This approach takes into account that each individual who seeks care is unique in their physiological and psychological make-up and that multiple factors influence both physical and mental health (for better or worse). The 5-factor approach to treatment is based on the importance of sensorium and its pivotal role in regulating thoughts, feelings, and overall mental health. Sensorium is a lens to understand how we focus on various things. Sensorium is total brain function, which fluctuates throughout the day and depends on a number of factors, including sleep, stress levels, and more.
Schlidt is the cofounder and managing partner at Palo Santo, a venture capital fund focused exclusively on the advancement of psychedelic therapies for the treatment of mental health disorders and beyond. Based on his own experience with severe depression as a teenager, Schlidt's goal is to steward the most efficacious psychedelic therapies towards FDA approval so that patients may safely, legally, and affordably access these medicines. He has deployed $25 million into 20 companies including Gilgamesh, Journey Clinical and Sensorium.Show Highlights:-The potential of psychedelics for mental health treatment.-Tim's story leading to investment in psychedelics.-Why to practice safe and supervised use of psychedelics in treatment.-Legal and ethical considerations around the use of psychedelics.-What are challenges in developing psychedelics?-Predicitons for psychedelics in mainstream medicine.-Psychedelics for therapeutic and personal growth.

Matthew Niederhauser and John Fitzgerald are both co-founders Sensorium as well technical directors at ONX Studio. They both have been working on a number of different immersive XR projects that are including the latest generative AI and large language model technologies. It's a rapidly developing field, and they talk about their strategy of keeping up to date through the practice of making different creative technology and immersive storytelling projects. Niederhauser spoke a bit about Tulpamancer, which has subsequently been announced as one of the 28 immersive stories in competition at Venice Immersive 2023. It uses AI to take input from each users based upon their questions exploring their memories, and then uses generative AI to create a unique immersive VR experience that is specific to that person. "Ultimately, every interaction produces a unique work that is deleted at the conclusion of its viewing, left only to resonate in the minds of each participant." I'll be on site in Venice, and I'm really looking forward to checking out this experience and following up with Niederhauser and co-director Marc Da Costa. This is episode #20 of the podcast and it's Thursday, the 23rd of June, 2022. Today I sat down, virtually, of course, with Dr. Michael Mopas, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. He is cross-appointed to the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice and the Department of Law and Legal Studies, and serves as a member of the Duncombe Studio for Social and Cultural Research. Most of Michael's work is in the area of science, technology, and law with a focus on 'sound'. In his spare time, he plays upright bass in several jazz bands in the city and participates in long-distance triathlons. He has completed two Ironman races (Lake Placid and Mont-Tremblant) and several other events. In our discussion, we turned to wearable fitness-trackers and mobile apps that allow athletes to measure, monitor, visualize, and record a variety of training metrics. Dr. Mopas and his collaborators have looked into the deeply embodied and sensory dimensions of self-tracking. The overall insight seems to be that the data generated by self-trackers are not only cognitively processed, but also sensed and felt by users. While we do have some understanding of what exactly self-tracking devices measure and quantify, we know less about how/when do their users know these quantitative metrics work for them. How do we mitigate the potential dissonance between these quantitative metrics and the athletes' lived experiences? The second part of the discussion moved toward technology. We talked about the future of wearable self-tracking devices and debated if AI can be employed to better understand the emotional needs of the user. Here is the show.Show Notes:- Do wearable tracking devices take too much of our ability of ‘being in the moment'?- Should we value quantitative metrics over other ways of knowing and making sense?- Moments of dissonance: self-tracking device's quantitative metrics vs. the athletes' lived experience- Sharing data (e.g., Strava): potential benefits and limitations- Technology: Can we develop AI that learns qualitative data that people input into such devices?Note:Relevant papers:Mopas, Michael S., and Ekaterina Huybregts. Do Kwon Cancels Crypto?!? This week has been utter madness, everyone's eyes were locked on the car crash catastrophe that was UST. It's failings that were due to its algorithmic nature, yield cuts and token dumps from big money investors. Do Kwon is watching all of this unfold and really understanding the true definition of karma. UST and LUNA Crash What was one of the largest stablecoins, TerraUSD (UST), fell from grace after it depegged from its $1 value on Monday and since dropped as much as 70% to $0.2998, when it was never supposed to deviate from the dollar-equivalent value. Recently, the blockchain behind the Luna token stopped processing new transactions for the second time in less than a day. Yi's eyes soften as he watches Jiazhi sing a Chinese folk song with subtle, feminine movements in the film, Lust, Caution. The room fills with laughter when Ali Wong unabashedly enacts her vulgar, bodily desires. What is the affect created through these performances? At different localities and temporalities, an actress and a comedian Tang Wei and Ali Wong embody ever-failing meaning of Chineseness, offering themselves for consumption and survival. In Vulgar Beauty: Acting Chinese in the Global Sensorium (Duke UP, 2022), Mila Zuo re-evaluates beauty to understand how it creates a feeling Chineseness, engendering a messy world of relationalities that challenge a stable binary of national identity. Using weidao, which escapes meaning in English as flavor and style of a person, object, or environment, Zuo challenges the Cartesian epistemology dividing mind/body and vision/hearing. Through in-depth analysis of films and shows, Zuo asks how five flavors of Chinese medicine, “bitter, salty, pungent, sweet, and sour” become “modalities of vulgar beauty” (33). Vulgar, often tied to the non-western and working-class bodies, becomes a means to complicate the relations between objecthood and subjecthood embodied in Chinese beauty. This beautifully written and theoretically rich book will be helpful resource for any scholars and public interested in film and media studies, Asian American studies, object studies, and gender studies. Mila Zuo is an assistant professor in the Department of Theatre and Film at UBC. Her first book Vulgar Beauty: Acting Chinese in the Global Sensorium (Duke University Press, 2022) focuses on the affective racialization of Chinese women film stars, demonstrating the ways which vulgar, flavourful beauty disrupts Western and colonial notions of beauty. In addition to scholarship, Zuo directs and writes narrative films, visual essays, documentaries and music videos. Her short films have screened in international film festivals and universities, including Carnal Orient (2016) which premiered at Slamdance Film Festival, and her short narrative film Kin (2021), which was the recipient of the 2019 Oregon Media Arts Fellowship, and screened at HollyShorts Film Festival. Da In Ann Choi is a PhD student at UCLA in the Gender Studies department.
I have always believed that there are important lessons for prose writers to learn from poetry, and I also think we can always gain something from the joy and discipline of listening to good poetry. To test and prove this belief, in this episode, I am talking to the teacher, poet, and translator Aaron Poochigian. Aaron has a Ph.D. in Classics from the University of Minnesota and an MFA in Poetry from Columbia University. In this episode, we talk about the rise of the prose form over poetry, why anyone might write poetry, why poetry is like music and should be heard as music, how we can push out into the world with our work. We talk about good and bad ambiguity, what novelists can learn from poetry, including the use of rhythm, compression or the economy of language, and using the full range of senses in description and setting. This is an episode of those who love poetry or at least see its potential to teach us something for our craft, I hope you enjoy it, here it is.

We promised a Rane & Jo episode at the end of 2021 and it's finally here! We had a few things we wanted to talk about, so join us for a wide ranging and potentially random discussion. Amongst other things, we discuss medical marijuana, re-opening the studio post lockdown, pop culture and more! We also talked about Greens candidate Celeste Liddle, local gallery and art therapy centre Sensorium. Finally, we ask the question - what is a yoga teacher personality? This episode was recorded 2 weeks ago, and just a note that a lot has changed in the world since then. Links Support us on Patreon: https://patreon.com/flowartists
This is episode #9 of the podcast and it's Thursday, the 13th of January, 2022. Happy New Year, everyone! In today's show, I am talking to Dr. Allan Køster, a philosopher focussing on applied Phenomenology in investigations of human suffering. He has worked broadly in the field of phenomenological psychopathology, but most recently has done research on the existentiality of grief/bereavement and on COVID-19 patients' experiences of isolation during admission to intensive care units. The fascinating topic of discussion today is the felt experience of others, in their absence. Many of us have experienced this. We closed our eyes, relaxed and imagined the loved one's presence as a warm feeling of love and comfort, their smile, laugh, their touch, even their scent — what the French call ‘sillage' — and have an acute sense of awareness, a tender and loving feeling. But what about the case where a loved one leaves the physical world and never comes back? This is Allan's research focus. Our discussion starts with the fundamental definition of phenomenology and how does such a paradigm describe human experience, especially, that of concrete sense of other. Allan believes that this particular kind of felt experience of the other is sensory rather than cognitive — and he calls it “a sensorium of the other”. We discuss the modalities that make out this fundamental sensorium and how these modalities interact to give this sense of embodied felt familiarity. We then shift focus to bereavement and to the abnormal experiences of ICU isolation in COVID patients - discussing how the pandemic has changed the way we interact. In the second part of the show, we tackle, of course, issues related to the role of technology (esp. immersive technologies) helping one re-experience the felt presence of others. And, of course, we had to close with the ethical implications of such technologies. Here is the show.Show Notes:- Definition of Phenomenology; how does it describe human experience- The felt experience of the other as a sensorium (and its modalities)- Phenomenologically structured interview process in research- How the pandemic has changed the way we interact- Bereavement and the abnormal experiences of ICU isolation in COVID patients- Immersive technologies helping one re-experience the felt presence of others- The ethical implication of such technologiesNote: Allan Køster's forthcoming book:https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.routledge.com/Cultural-Existential-and-Phenomenological-Dimensions-of-Grief-Experience/Koster-Kofod/p/book/9780367568115__;!!DZ3fjg!s7tf5zuTOw85NVxCRtQe42KstNHaMvR4bPiGU0hbAWP3GaPYomU6Pxa16vZYTnvN$
This is episode #4 of the podcast and it's Thursday, the 28th of October 2021. In today's show I am talking to Professor Rabindra (Robby) Ratan about the Metaverse and the Web 3.0. In addition to basic definitions and the etymology of the concepts, we explore various important aspects such as how is this virtual space governed, how are its contents moderated, and what kind of experience does and can the Metaverse give its users. As more and more companies are making their presence known in this so-called ‘embodied space' (just to cite Mark Zuckerburg), we discuss the future of the Metaverse related to storytelling as part of the user's multi-modal and multi-sensory experience, as well as to some of the ethical issues that most likely will arise in this still virgin space. Dr. Ratan is Director of the SPARTIE Lab at Michigan State University, which performs research on the effects of human-technology interaction, examining how the use of media technologies (e.g., avatars, agents, automobiles) influences meaningful outcomes (e.g., education, health/safety, persuasion). SPARTIE stands for Social and Psychological Approaches to Research on Technology-Interaction Effects. At the end of the interview, Robby summarizes his work on reducing toxicity in virtual spaces by employing various design principles and finding ways to make people be more responsible and avoid promoting certain stereotypes online. Here is the show.Interesting fact: It also happens that, as of today, when this episode went live, Facebook becomes Meta, its new corporate name.Note:This episode is being cross-posted with SPARTIE-cast, the SPARTIE lab's own podcast. The Internet of Things trend is creating massive product and service sales opportunities. Businesses are spending billions of dollars acquiring new sensors, infrastructure, and applications to leverage IoT devices and systems to improve operations, create new experiences, and capitalize on emerging models. In the channel, IoT is still an emerging opportunity. Vendors are developing channel programs, and solution providers are beginning to adopt the technologies. *CONTENT WARNING*This episode contains graphic language depicting instances of rape and verbal imagery illustrating acts of sexual violence. On today's episode, Calvin and Ryan sit down with Dr. Stephanie Larson, Assistant Professor of Rhetoric at Carnegie Mellon, to discuss her recent publication in the Quarterly Journal of Speech (QJS), “‘Everything inside me was silenced': (Re)defining rape through visceral counterpublicity.”This article is part of Professor Larson's larger body of work on contemporary rhetorics of rape culture. We discuss two of her case studies: a publicly delivered letter by Emily Doe and a multimodal art piece employed by Emma Sulkowicz, both crafted to call attention to the actions of the men who raped them. In her analysis, Stephanie aims to answer questions such as: How do women discuss acts of sexual violence committed against them after legal discourse fails to recognize these acts as criminal? She theorizes that victims use visceral language to call attention to their physical bodies, specifically their points of violation, thus inciting empathetic and emotional responses from the audience. She goes on to argue that this type of public performativity has the potential to shift public standards of judgment in cases of sexual violence. The episode closes with Stephanie's thoughts on feminist magnitude and how it has shaped the #MeToo movement in online discourse. She also offers her take on why Christine Blasey-Ford's testimony in the Supreme Court confirmation hearing for Brett Kavanaugh did not capture audiences in the same way, suggesting that the use of online platforms and collective sharing of personal testimonies facilitates more affective and effective engagement with audiences.Works & Concepts Referenced in this Episode:Emily Doe's publicly-read letter to Brock TurnerEmma Sulkowicz's Mattress Performance (Carry That Weight) OverviewWikipedia page for Emma Sulkowicz's Ceci N'est Pas Un Viol (“This is not a rape”) performance *Content Warning*: This performance contains an explicit, performative depiction of a rape.Ahmed, S.
