Connecting with our ancestors. Our guest Stephanie R. Burns starts by describing her all-inclusive view of ancestors which is far vaster than our biological lineage, including the most ancient ancestor of them all, the Earth. In this replay of a popular episode from September, Stephanie says that we can choose to communicate only with benevolent ancestors and are also able to heal the less healthy ancestors and not let ourselves be controlled by them. She suggests using the four elements as part of our rituals around working with these dreams and focusing on intentionality and gratitude. She describes what she calls Earth Dreaming which is dreaming for the healing of Mama Earth. Max from Bonny Doon shares a recent dream of his about a tree and how we act as if everything is not connected. Steve calls from Prunedale to ask how to start making an alliance w a particular grandfather who died when he was ten. Kay calls from Vermont asking if you can you doubt the answers from your ancestors, and Stephanie replies, “Yes! Trust what you know.” BIO: Stephanie R Burns, based in New Orleans, is an author, speaker, and master dreamer who uses her multiple degrees to explore ways to create frameworks from ancient wisdom. She has authored two books and is the facilitator of the Connecting with the Ancestors Apprenticeship. Stephanie enjoys traveling when she is not writing or dreaming. What it feels like: Visceral Rhetoric and the Politics of Rape Culture (Penn State Press, 2021) by Dr. Stephanie Larson interrogates an underexamined reason for our failure to abolish rape in the United States: the way we communicate about it. Using affective and feminist materialist approaches to rhetorical criticism, Dr. Larson examines how discourses about rape and sexual assault rely on strategies of containment, denying the felt experiences of victims and ultimately stalling broader claims for justice. Investigating anti-pornography debates from the 1980s, Violence Against Women Act advocacy materials, sexual assault forensic kits, public performances, and the #MeToo movement, Dr. Larson reveals how our language privileges male perspectives and, more deeply, how it is shaped by systems of power—patriarchy, white supremacy, ableism, and heteronormativity. Interrogating how these systems work to propagate masculine commitments to “science” and “hard evidence,” Dr. Larson finds that US culture holds a general mistrust of testimony by women, stereotyping it as “emotional.” But she also gives us hope for change, arguing that testimonies grounded in the bodily, material expression of violation are necessary for giving voice to victims of sexual violence and presenting, accurately, the scale of these crimes. Larson makes a case for visceral rhetorics, theorizing them as powerful forms of communication and persuasion. Demonstrating the communicative power of bodily feeling, Dr. Larson challenges the long-held commitment to detached, distant, rationalized discourses of sexual harassment and rape. Timely and poignant, the book offers a much-needed corrective to our legal and political discourses. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose doctoral work focused on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. Easter and Passover give us the opportunity to reflect on an experience of injustice or not being loved and use it as a doorway for transformation. For me that was the gift of the situation where the champion women's basketball team at LSU was slighted by the White House and mainstream narratives. You can google it if you want more details. My point in sharing this is to let you know about the healing journey that I've chosen to SLOW DOWN and pay attention to in the last few days and to share some wisdom from my Sister Colleague and Wisdom Keeper,  Rev. Dr. Stephanie R. Burns. The first thing I acknowledged to myself and now to you is that this situation triggered old and deep pain.Of not being loved. Not being cherished. Not being claimed and celebrated.I was feeling angry, sad, and scared.Second, I did not engage my social media feeds or my friends via text.Instead I went up the mountain on Spirit's Knob and asked to be healed of my triggers--the part of me that is caught up in Old, Historic and Collective Hurts. As I walked barefoot, I murmured to plants, trees and stones along the way.In this interview with Dr. Burns you will hear what happened next and the medicine that all of us can take from something like this. You can follow Dr. Stephanie R Burns on LinkedIn and Instagram.  You can support her on patreon at Spirit Grove. For more on how Nature is Guiding Racial Justice subscribe to this channel and check out  dramandakemp.com.Join our Vision Board Party:  https://www.dramandakemp.com/vision-board-party-spSupport the showMother tree Network Podcast--Where Spirituality and Earth Wisdom Meet Racial Justice and Women's Leadership. Generation Hip Hop (GHH) is a global youth empowerment and development program, initiated by a group of like minded industry professionals. The aim is to establish satellite non-profit organizations under one Hip Hop brand across the world. To date, 62 countries have enlisted and the ambassadors are in the process of nominating their committees. These entities will be comprised of influential artists, performers, and intellectuals from all elements of Hip Hop. They are all invested in and committed to the aims of GHH. GHH will become an influential movement in the new global village. Youth of today especially need empowerment through something they can relate to and believe in. GHH aims to harness the progressive talent of otherwise disenfranchised youth into a collective, dynamic, and productive international program guided by a central committee. Initially, the aims of the program will be to set up infrastructures that address what the world lacks relative to our youth. Our network will enable us to design community arts workshops, youth empowerment initiatives, cooperative events, programs for conflict resolution, hunger alleviation, edutainment, and especially refugee assistance. GHH is also designed to facilitate sustainable, vital, and transparent CSI initiatives. Blue chip and corporate entities will have the opportunity to partner globally with GHH in specifically initiated Cause Related Marketing (CRM) programs. This means that the funds generated for GHH, through the partner will be acquired through pre-designed CRM campaigns endorsed by credible and current personalities and organizations. These campaigns will be influenced by our global reach and will be driven independently in each country. GHH will perpetuate the mandate of Peace, Unity, and Love through our initiatives and international network.  https://generationhiphopglobal.org

To learn more about Dr. Boyce's work, you can visit The FRESH Classroom website at thefreshclassroom.com or follow her on Instagram (@freshclassroom and @dr.srboyce) and Twitter (@Fresh_Classroom). She currently serves as the Chief Education Officer of Stephanie Boyce & Associates, LLC., the parent company of The FRESH Classroom, Professor & Director of the Writing Program at Paul Quinn College, and Lecturer of African American Studies at the University of Houston. Dr. Stephanie Boyce's ironic journey along the path of academia was anything but typical, having taken her from being a rebellious student in at-risk schools to teaching and leading in at-risk schools, and eventually serving as a researcher and advocate in the same schools. By the time her journey is half complete, she will be added to a list of phenomenal innovators who advocate tirelessly for the millions of students who may otherwise be left voiceless in classrooms across America. In addition to her work within educational institutions, Dr. Boyce works as an educational advocate partnering with allies in the fight for equitable policies and legislative priorities for ALL. In a world where the complicated processes and verbose industrious jargon cause many citizens, especially those in marginalized groups, to disengage with the legislative entities that govern them, Dr. Boyce's goal is to demystify complicated systems and show ALL people entry points into engaging with the political processes and collaborating with elected officials to ensure equitable outcomes for students and distribution of resources and opportunities.n addition to her work within educational institutions, Dr. Boyce works as an educational advocate partnering with allies in the fight for equitable policies and legislative priorities for ALL. Sie absolvieren dort den Master of Arts in Strategy and International Management.

There’s no doubt this is a time of uncertainty. COVID-19 has changed the way most of us live, and it’s not clear when or if we’ll be able to resume the activities we took for granted just a year ago. Rather than waiting for the government to figure it all out, our best defence against infectious disease is optimising metabolic health and immune function. For that, sleep is arguably the keystone behaviour. Today I’m joined again by our resident sleep expert, Greg Potter, PhD to talk about the effects of sleep on the immune system. Greg explains how poor sleep and sleep disorders profoundly impact the body’s ability to combat infections, including the common cold, pneumonia, and COVID-19. He also discusses the importance of getting enough sleep in the days leading up to vaccination and offers pandemic-specific tips for better sleep. Here’s the outline of this interview with Greg Potter: [00:02:01] Resilient Nutrition; Long Range Fuel. [00:07:05] Changes in sleep since COVID. [00:08:50] COVID dreams. *CONTENT WARNING*This episode contains graphic language depicting instances of rape and verbal imagery illustrating acts of sexual violence. On today's episode, Calvin and Ryan sit down with Dr. Stephanie Larson, Assistant Professor of Rhetoric at Carnegie Mellon, to discuss her recent publication in the Quarterly Journal of Speech (QJS), “‘Everything inside me was silenced': (Re)defining rape through visceral counterpublicity.”This article is part of Professor Larson's larger body of work on contemporary rhetorics of rape culture. We discuss two of her case studies: a publicly delivered letter by Emily Doe and a multimodal art piece employed by Emma Sulkowicz, both crafted to call attention to the actions of the men who raped them. In her analysis, Stephanie aims to answer questions such as: How do women discuss acts of sexual violence committed against them after legal discourse fails to recognize these acts as criminal? She theorizes that victims use visceral language to call attention to their physical bodies, specifically their points of violation, thus inciting empathetic and emotional responses from the audience. She goes on to argue that this type of public performativity has the potential to shift public standards of judgment in cases of sexual violence. The episode closes with Stephanie's thoughts on feminist magnitude and how it has shaped the #MeToo movement in online discourse. She also offers her take on why Christine Blasey-Ford's testimony in the Supreme Court confirmation hearing for Brett Kavanaugh did not capture audiences in the same way, suggesting that the use of online platforms and collective sharing of personal testimonies facilitates more affective and effective engagement with audiences.Works & Concepts Referenced in this Episode:Emily Doe's publicly-read letter to Brock TurnerEmma Sulkowicz's Mattress Performance (Carry That Weight) OverviewWikipedia page for Emma Sulkowicz's Ceci N'est Pas Un Viol (“This is not a rape”) performance *Content Warning*: This performance contains an explicit, performative depiction of a rape.Ahmed, S.
