As we enter the Annual Kwanzaa/Christmas/New Year two week corridor, Session 302 of In Class With Carr centers on the meaning of naming, framing, and narrative as sites of Governance, self-determination and collective power. Drawing on Carter Godwin Woodson's “Much Ado About a Name” essay in his 1933 book “The Miseducation of the Negro,” this week we use our Africana Studies Framework to reflect on, subjects such as Kwanzaa, Black Nationalism, and Pan-Africanism, emphasizing content and context, distinguishing Social Structure from Governance questions in order to empower community-centered knowledge. Rejecting both narrowly-framed academic framings and superficial efforts to rename and redirect the potential of collective power, we use this season of reflection and gratitude to remind ourselves of frameworks that support action, intergenerational learning and expectations, and movement-building rooted in ourselves. Are you a member of Knarrative? Self discipline is the only way to form new habits and achieve new goals. Keeping your word with yourself is the first step towards being able to keep your word with others. Many times we can get swept away by the daily struggle and days, weeks, months can go by in between steps towards progress. Meditation can help form new patterns of behavior, to break free of unproductive thoughts and habits. One breath at a time.

COVID-19 AND THE EMPOWERMENT OF UNELECTED BUREAUCRATS Colleague Victor Davis Hanson. Hanson asserts that the COVID-19 pandemic empowered unelected bureaucrats to enforce lockdowns that disproportionately crushed the middle class while enriching large corporations and the "Zoom class." He claims the scientific consensus was manipulated to protect China regarding the virus's origins and that early dissenters who questioned the efficacy of lockdowns and masks have since been vindicated. The response highlighted a deep divide between the "essential" working class and the insulated elites who managed the crisis from safety. NUMBER 8

Heather Ann Ferri – Author, Speaker, Healer, and Educator. Heather Ann Ferri wrote her first book, Victim to Victory (2018), in a time when she lost the ability to walk. Pen to paper, she activated her next decade of work. Hired by professionals in medicine, law, construction, and alternative healing, she found patterns. A disconnect from where the root of pain or problems was manifesting within. She had to set her World Record tap shoes aside and activate her voice and healer psychology. Heather Ann Ferri's new classroom involved her mastering eight sciences. How do you reprogram CPTSD while training your breath, voice, and mind? How can healing programs access ancestral memories for empowerment? Is resilience defined by how fast you recover or by the time spent healing the roots of the wounds? A pioneer who found herself lost in the matrix of how women had to be and work in society. Her tap shoes led her to writing off Broadway shows to empower the next generation of leaders. Her private trauma practice led her to be able to speak from authentic experience. Transcending Victim to Goddess series addresses my roots and how she healed from the shadow masculine programs. How she balanced and healed both the divine masculine and feminine within her. This series is a soul purpose to share her love for self and Mother Earth. Heather Ann Ferri's Website
John and Lael open up about the hidden cost of growing up under religious control. Lael McKay, a former member of Hobart Freeman’s Faith Assembly, shares her life story—from an idyllic Indiana childhood shadowed by legalism and fear, to years of silence about physical pain, sexual abuse, and her father’s preventable suffering under faith-healing teachings. Together, John and Chino explore how purity culture, fear of hell, and denial of medical care shaped entire families. Through raw honesty and reflection, Lael describes her path through therapy, rediscovering safety, compassion, and spiritual balance. This conversation offers hope for survivors of high-control religious movements and insight into the lifelong impact of spiritual abuse and recovery.______________________Weaponized Religion: From Christian Identity to the NAR:Paperback: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1735160962 Kindle: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCGGZX3K ______________________– Support the channel: https://www.patreon.com/branham – Visit the website: https://william-branham.org

When we are overcome with emotion it is very easy to lose sight of the fact that the pain is temporary but if we can learn that our pain and emotions come and go in waves, perhaps we can gain some mindfulness and perspective as we experience those things in the moment. This meditation aims to help the meditator remember to ride the wave of the present moment.

Send us a textWhat if your partnership model unintentionally silences the very people it's meant to elevate? We sit down with Asia Blackwell, executive director of Maya Midwifery, to unpack how a well-intended collaboration in Guatemala drifted toward hierarchy by over-rewarding a few “standout” leaders while leaving many midwives underpowered. Asia lays out how they rebuilt trust with transparent systems, written agreements, and equitable pathways that spread training, decision-making, and visibility across the full team.Together, we reframe accountability as shared responsibility rather than control. Asia explains the pivot from informal, relationship-only trust to clear MOUs, role boundaries, and simple verification tools that protect everyone—midwives, boards, and donors. We challenge Western assumptions about leadership and administration, recognizing that Indigenous midwives already lead in their communities without needing titles to validate influence. When governance confuses literacy with legitimacy or paperwork with power, it narrows who gets heard and who gets help.Asia shares a vivid, Maya-inspired governance model built around the Ceiba, the sacred tree: midwives as the canopy, local admin as branches, the Guatemalan board as trunk, and US teams as roots. Donors become sun and water—vital, nourishing, and appropriately at a distance from day-to-day decisions. This design makes equity operational with feedback loops, shared metrics, and practical safeguards that honor local autonomy. The impact is palpable: midwives now present their own data, speak confidently in meetings, and describe renewed pride and energy at the birth center. If you're working in global health, philanthropy, or any cross-border partnership, you'll find practical guidance here: listen widely, rotate opportunity, document commitments, and let culturally grounded structures lead. Subscribe for more conversations on equitable, community-led maternal health, and share this episode with a colleague who's ready to rethink how power and accountability can truly work together. ____Firmly Rooted - A new documentary on orphanage response - the right way!To view the released trailer and sizzle reel, go to https://firmlyrootedfilm.com/or to https://www.helpingchildrenworldwide.org__________ ____Organize a Rooted in Reality mission experience for your service club, church group, worship team, young adult or adult study. As we round out 2025, leaders are facing a series of "this-or-that" choices: Control vs. Empowerment, Stability vs. Agility, Automation vs. Humanity. Tammy J. Bond argues that the real superpower for 2026 isn't choosing one—it's holding the space for "Both-And." This episode explores why managers are "drowning" in complexity and how the "Yes, And" framework—Tammy's personal philosophy—can transform paralyzing tensions into opportunities for growth. Learn how to stop "reloading the dishwasher" for your team and start building a culture of trusted productivity. The Leadership Tensions of 2025 The Struggle is Real: The Center for Creative Leadership identifies the top tensions as juggling people vs. results and leading change vs. managing complexity. The Micromanagement Trap: With managers overseeing nearly 3x as many people as they did a few years ago, the default response to stress is often to "tighten the screws." The Cost of Control: Global engagement has slipped to 21%. When you seek more approval and create less autonomy, you create a "why bother?" culture that leads to quiet quitting. Three Non-Negotiable Conversations for 2026 To bridge the gap between control and empowerment, initiate these three dialogues before the new year: The Ownership Ask: "What decisions are you ready to own so I can step out of the way?" (Define the boundaries and metrics together). The Mirror Moment: "Where am I over-controlling you?" Invite honest feedback and define actions to shift that control. The AI Soul Search: "How will we use AI as a 'team member' without losing the soul of our company?" Co-create rules that keep the process human-centric. Your Final Sandbox Challenge Before 2025 ends, identify one thing you currently control that you can release to your team. If you can't find one thing, ask yourself: Is this about risk, or is it my ego? Identifying your "rate-limiting step" is the first move toward becoming a "Both-And" leader. Remember, empowerment doesn't need to be chaos. It's freedom inside a clear framework.
Join host Kyle Forrest and Jim Barnett of Wisq as they discuss the ways in which AI helps empower the workforce—and not replace them.

Today, I am delighted to connect with Dr. Sameena Rahman, a board-certified OBGYN and certified menopause practitioner with over a decade of expertise in midlife sexual medicine and concierge gynecology. Dr. Rahman founded the GSM Collective in downtown Chicago to deliver a more personalized patient-first model of health care for women. In our conversation, we explore how cultural and racial factors influence care for women, particularly during the menopausal transition. We discuss the heart disease risk of women with a baseline of inflammation and insulin resistance, the effects of allostatic load on minority women, why cognitive health is crucial, the impact of alcohol, and why the current medical model is a systemic failure that gaslights women. We also examine the impact of pelvic floor therapy, appropriate pelvic examinations, specific autoimmune vulvar conditions, and how oral contraceptives affect sexual health, and Dr. Rahman shares her recommendations for preventing frailty and loss of independence. I am a big admirer of Dr. Rahman's work and look forward to having her join us again after her new book is published. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN: Why Hormone Replacement Therapy alone might not solve all menopausal genital issues How pelvic floor issues can even affect women who have not given vaginal births What a routine Pap smear can miss, regarding vulvar and vestibular health What a simple Q-tip test can reveal about vulvar pain How untreated pain can create a cycle of pelvic floor problems How local hormone therapy can target vulvar and vestibular pain where systemic hormones may fall short The benefits of trauma-informed exams The value of integrating pelvic floor therapy with local hormone treatment How long-term birth control use might affect vulvar tissue What to consider for balancing contraception with sexual health Bio: Dr. Sameena Rahman Dr. Sameena Rahman is a board-certified OB/GYN, sex-med gynecologist, menopause specialist, and a clinical assistant professor of OB/GYN at the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. She is the founder of the GYN & Sexual Medicine Collective, a successful concierge practice that emphasizes evidence-based medicine, and an affiliate of Ms. Medicine. Dr. Rahman is dedicated to evaluating and treating each patient with compassion, trauma-informed care, and an awareness of personal bias. Imagine thinking you signed up for a self-improvement course, only to wake up inside a secret hierarchy where starvation, blackmail, and branding were sold as empowerment. This is the story of NXIVM, the so-called leadership program that unraveled into one of the most disturbing criminal enterprises in modern history. In Part 1, we pull back the curtain on how Keith Raniere, a man who called himself "Vanguard," and his partner Nancy Salzman built a multi-million dollar empire on the promise of human potential. We explore the early days of their Executive Success Programs (ESP), the manipulative techniques used to lure in thousands of followers—including celebrities and business leaders—and the slow, deliberate process of indoctrination. How did a group that started with corporate retreats and PowerPoint presentations devolve into a destructive cult? We trace the origins of the abuse, the creation of a master-slave sorority, and the psychological tactics that kept its members loyal, even as the darkness closed in. This week's session with Dr. Greg Carr and Professor Karen Hunter comes live from the 10th annual Celebration Bowl HBCU National Football Championship and Band of the Year Competition. These are Governance formation rituals where Ways of Knowing, Cultural Meaning-Making and Movement and Memory imprint our future. Against an increasingly desperate death rattle of US White Nationalism fed by intensifying media disruption and institutional assault, these Governance formations become both refuge and resistance: Bodies in formation, convening as instruction, institutions as anchors.
