Get the free Core Drives in the Wild guide, behavioral design applied to real engagement programs: professorgame.com/WildCD Episode Summary Rob breaks down behavioral debt: the borrowed motivation hiding inside every legacy points, discount, or bonus program, showing why cutting an engagement program off cold is the fastest way to blow it up. He walks through JCPenney's collapse under Ron Johnson, a Fortune 500 rewards program employees now budget around like income, and how LATAM Airlines and Caixa Econômica Federal restructured their own behavioral debt using Octalysis Core Drives instead of switching it off. Listeners learn how to read their program's real balance sheet and start servicing behavioral debt without triggering a JCPenney-style default. About the Host Rob Alvarez is Head of Engagement Strategy, Europe at The Octalysis Group (TOG), a leading gamification and behavioral design consultancy. A globally recognized gamification strategist and TEDx speaker, he founded and hosts Professor Game, the #1 gamification podcast, and has interviewed hundreds of global experts. He designs evidence-based engagement systems that drive motivation, loyalty, and results, and teaches LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® and gamification at top institutions including IE Business School, EFMD, and EBS University across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Key Takeaways JCPenney's Ron Johnson scrapped every discount and coupon overnight, replacing them with everyday low pricing; sales fell 25%, roughly $4.3 billion, and he was gone within two years. Ron Johnson later admitted only 1% of JCPenney's sales happened without a discount, meaning 99% of purchases depended on coupons the company had just eliminated. LATAM Airlines kept its miles intact but rebuilt the experience around Core Drive 7 (Unpredictability & Curiosity) and Core Drive 3 (Empowerment of Creativity & Feedback), driving a 153% increase in credit card acquisitions. Caixa Econômica Federal's incentive program had drifted to roughly 10% participation before a rebuild around collective purpose pushed it to 90%, adding $1.06 billion in revenue. Points tied to reaching performance targets ran on Core Drive 4 (Ownership & Possession) and Core Drive 8 (Loss & Avoidance), turning a reward employees didn't need into part of their household income. Behind every emergency is a story of resilience, sacrifice, and unseen challenges. Karla Perez Solorzano, Executive Director of Healing Heroic Healers, shares her journey from 25 years as a frontline healthcare professional to creating a mission focused on supporting first responders through trauma, burnout, and healing. Through an honest conversation with Dr. Michelle Robin and Bayleigh Soza, Karla explores the importance of whole-person care, building resilience, and creating communities that support the people who dedicate their lives to caring for others. Her story is a powerful reminder that even heroes need care, compassion, and space to heal. Key Takeaways: First responders carry invisible wounds, and prioritizing their mental, emotional, and physical well-being is essential to sustaining the people who care for our communities. Whole-person healing extends beyond traditional healthcare by addressing emotional resilience, supportive relationships, and access to restorative resources. Building resilience before adversity strikes creates a stronger foundation to navigate trauma, stress, and life's unexpected challenges. Offering grace, compassion, and understanding to healthcare professionals acknowledges that caregivers are human and often carry burdens we cannot see. Communities become healthier when individuals, organizations, and healthcare providers work together to support both those receiving care and those delivering it. We couldn't highlight incredible stories like this without the support of our sponsor, CommunityAmerica Credit Union. Have you ever known what you needed to do—even when everyone around you disagreed? In this deeply personal episode of Your Yes Filled Life, Brenda shares the story of one of the most important intuitive decisions she's ever made: driving across the country to see her father despite nearly everyone telling her not to go. That decision gave her sixteen priceless days with her dad before his passing. This conversation isn't just about grief. It's about learning to trust yourself when there are no guarantees, no certainty, and no unanimous approval. In this episode, you'll discover: • Why intuition rarely arrives with external validation • How to distinguish inner knowing from fear • Why emotional doesn't automatically mean dysregulated • What self-trust actually looks like in real life • How to move forward when other people's opinions conflict with your own knowing If you've ever questioned your intuition because someone else couldn't understand it, this episode is for you. In this episode of Recovery Talks, Jim and Andi tackle the growing confusion around terminology in the peer support field. They dig into how words like "peer," "peer supporter," "peer support specialist," and "peer worker" are increasingly used interchangeably by providers and organizations which may blur or dilute their actual meaning. The conversation traces the evolution of language in the recovery movement, from older terms like "consumer," "client," and "patient" to today's push toward "peer" and "lived experience." Jim and Andi discuss: The legal/professional distinction in Montana between a "peer supporter" and a certified "peer support specialist" Why person-centered, recovery-oriented language (versus clinical language) helps build connection rather than hierarchy or separation How language shapes identity and self-perception for people in recovery, especially peer supporters who've experienced relapse The importance of self-care and resiliency planning within peer support training, and why relapsed peer supporters often don't return to the workforce How modeling recovery-oriented language can gradually shift culture A preview of MPN's new Peer Advocacy, Change and Empowerment workbook and companion online course

As tax reforms reshape Australia's investment landscape, more investors are looking beyond residential property, putting commercial real estate firmly back on the radar. On the REB Business Empowerment Showcase, Liam Garman is joined by commercial buyer's agent Chris Huxter to discuss why recent budget changes have renewed interest in commercial assets and what investors need to know before making the switch. Huxter explains why commercial property has largely escaped the proposed changes affecting residential investors, driving a noticeable increase in inquiries from investors looking to diversify their portfolios. The pair also explore why industrial property continues to outperform, the risks behind chasing high yields, and the due diligence investors often overlook when buying commercial assets. The conversation covers the importance of understanding leases, tenant quality, and specialist property management, with Huxter outlining the common mistakes that can turn a seemingly attractive commercial investment into a costly one.
This week's session continues to explore struggles for political power and cultural survival in hostile, nativist Social Structures. Even as politicians of African descent continue to be elected, even in spaces with majority non-African voters, the challenge to conform, integrate or culturally neuter in order to demonstrate trustworthiness persists. Hard White nationalists such as those who have momentarily captured the federal government push desperately to neuter potential voting power of others and risk an implosion of their existing structural advantage by attacking carefully curated national myths that hold the polity together, at least tangentially. Meanwhile, filmmaker Christopher Nolan‘s latest movie, “The Odyssey,” has begun to make huge global profits. People are hungry for Cultural Meaning-Making that feeds seemingly archetypical myths. Contrasting cherished Western archetypes like the Homeric myth with intra-racial satirizations such as “Oh Brother Where Art Thou” and elder narratives like the Ancient Egyptian story of Sinhue/Sanhat, we explore how long-view African memory–or “Black Odysseys”--can be used to both gain perspective and regain the Momentum of Memory. In a moment when a White Nationalist US federal government is working overtime to destroy all lines between fact and fiction, the value of collective learning and developing our abilities, is more critical than ever. With soaring prices of higher education increasingly out of reach for most, renewed efforts to reshape readily accessible public spaces for learning also increase. As we continue to jailbreak learning during the US semiquincentennial year, we ask again the question W.E.B. Du Bois asked before departing permanently for Africa: When it comes to collective movement and institution building within African and other spaces, “Whither Now and Why?”Are you a member of Knarrative? Are you feeling exhausted, defeated, or like you're just trying to survive the darkness in the world? Discover how to unlock the true empowerment of the Holy Spirit to break strongholds and bring real change to your life, workplace, and community. In this powerful message, Elliott Warren reveals that God wants to do more than just comfort you—He wants to empower you. Drawing from the passing of Elijah's mantle to Elisha and the explosive growth of the early church, this sermon challenges the modern mindset of merely waiting for heaven. Instead, it equips you with a bold "Kingdom Vision" to pray "Thy kingdom come" not as a passive wish, but as an aggressive prayer of spiritual warfare to displace the enemy. Whether you are facing resistance in your personal life, your family, or your career, you will learn how to shift from playing defense to actively taking territory. Just as the Apostle Paul experienced breakthrough, an earthquake, and prison doors opening in Macedonia after persistent spiritual warfare, you too can step into the authority needed to see chains fall and lives transformed. It's time to stop just getting by and start changing the world. 00:00:00 - Welcome & Introduction 00:01:41 - The Mantle of Elijah: Empowerment for Ministry 00:06:48 - The Difference Between Being Filled and Being Empowered 00:16:35 - Kingdom Vision: Why Going to Heaven Isn't the Only Goal 00:21:30 - "Thy Kingdom Come": A Powerful Prayer for Spiritual Warfare 00:32:55 - Bringing the Power of God into a Broken Culture 00:46:25 - Paul in Macedonia: Breaking Demonic Assignments 00:54:55 - The Midnight Hour: Praising Through Your Darkest Battles 01:00:42 - Closing Prayer for Empowerment and Vision #HolySpirit #SpiritualWarfare #Sermon #Church #Faith #Jesus #BreakingStrongholds #KingdomVision #ChristianMotivation #SpiritualAuthority #FindingPurpose #PrayerPower #FaithInAction #christianliving If this message encouraged you, please SUBSCRIBE to our channel, LIKE this video, and SHARE it with someone who needs to hear it! Season 6 Episode #24 Karen Danlovich is coming from St. Augustine, Florida (inform, inspire, & transform)You can find Karen via her website tidalresilience.orgAbout our Guest: Karen is the Founder and Executive Director of Tidal Resilience Foundation, a nonprofit in coastal Florida supporting children and families navigating the loss of a parent or caregiver. Her life has been shaped by profound loss — losing her mom at nine, her dad at nineteen, and later her grandparents — experiences that taught her early what it means to survive deep grief and still keep moving forward. Karen built her career as an educator, teaching social studies, coaching dance, directing student programs, and later serving as an assistant principal. She also spent five seasons as an NFL cheerleader for the Jacksonville Jaguars, serving as team captain while teaching full‑time — a decade defined by discipline, leadership, and service. Her work today blends her educational background with the belief that the ocean is one of our greatest teachers. Through Tidal Resilience Foundation, she leads programs rooted in ocean‑based resilience, including Resilience Kits, Resilience Rides, community events, and The Reef, an online learning sanctuary offering free resources for families navigating the loss of a parent or caregiver. Each program is designed to help young people build grounding, emotional regulation, and connection as they move through grief. Karen's mission is simple and powerful: to turn her personal story into a shared one — creating a community where grieving children and families feel seen, supported, and strengthened. She believes that when we take care of the ocean, the ocean takes care of us, and that its lessons can guide families through even the roughest waters of loss.Karen, thanks for sharing your vulnerability with people all over the world, thanks for guiding families through difficult waters and thanks for being our guest on Life's Essential Ingredients…welcome to the show.TOTD – “When a great ship is in harbor and moored, it is safe, there can be no doubt. In the automotive industry, we often focus on the vehicle itself, the technology within it, the smart factories, and artificial intelligence. Ford is leading the way in all these areas, even reimagining the assembly line that Henry Ford created back in 1913. However, that is not the whole story. The hardware has never been the main focus. The real story lies in the culture; it's about how more than 100,000 individuals think, act, and make decisions, and whether they can adapt faster than the legacy companies that were built to move at a different pace.In this episode of the Automotive Leaders Podcast, Jan Griffiths interviews Bryce Currie, Ford's Chief Manufacturing Officer, who oversees more than 40 plants worldwide. Both Bryce and Jan began their careers in a command-and-control environment, where plant managers were feared, meetings featured thrown books, and no one felt comfortable offering alternative ideas because they weren't being heard. However, Bryce opted for a different approach. He identifies as a servant leader and has dedicated 51 weeks of his life to traveling by bus to demonstrate his commitment. These bus tours form the core of their discussion. Over the course of a week, Bryce visits four plants with 50 employees from every level and function, working from 5:30 in the morning until 10:30 at night, all focused on learning to operate Ford's production system in a unified way. This initiative is how Bryce turns culture into a tangible experience for the team. He emphasizes aspects that many leaders overlook: he turns off his phone so his team can learn to operate independently, encourages two ideas from every operator, and uses Thomas Edison's 2,332 inventions as a benchmark for what his team can achieve in a single year. This conversation explores what it takes to accelerate a company with over a century of history. Trust and kindness are powerful business tools. He advocates for accountability without fear, highlighting that culture should not be viewed as a soft concept; rather, it is the backbone that drives results. If you're a leader in this industry, Bryce will illustrate what shifts when you stop trying to control your team and start believing in them.Themes Discussed in this EpisodeWhy culture is the real transformation story at FordBreaking command and control at the manufacturing scaleServant leadership across 40-plus Ford plantsThe bus tour is a culture change engineEmpowerment over micromanagement in a legacy organizationActivating the minds of 100,000 peopleDriving innovation through frontline operator ideasThis episode is sponsored by Lockton, click here to learn more

Around the world, including the United States, those in power fight desperately to cling to it, targeting a foundational element for legitimizing state power: the vote. Fascist efforts to maintain state authority have increasingly worked to undermine our capacity to assess information and distinguish between fact and false narratives. This week, as we continue our Africana Studies approach to reframing the U.S. semi-quincentennial year, we underscore the continuing need to deepen our literacy skills. Deep reading, reflection, and critical thinking are essential in the face of Social Structure assaults on thinking and mass movements informed by objective reality.Recovering the momentum of memory allows us to confront modern tactics that seek to diminish—or even eliminate—the vote as a tool of collective struggle. A post-literate era is particularly vulnerable to these attempts to undermine the very foundations of civic participation, informed engagement, and mass movement. The "Freedom Schools" call to educate ourselves is correct, but it must never stray from the enabling capacity at the core of what is under perpetual assault: deep literacy and reflection as the starting point for meaningful action. Are you a member of Knarrative? Send us Fan MailA kid can survive almost anything, but they don't survive it unchanged. Nelson Sua up in Hawaii inside a home marked by violence, fear, and a family legacy that later gets labeled “Brotherhood of Crime.” He's honest about what that kind of childhood does to your identity, your nervous system, and your sense of what's normal. Then he walks us through the moment he finally decides the story ends with him, especially after becoming a father and realizing his kids deserve a different future.Things get even heavier when Nelson learns later in life that the man he called dad is not his biological father. That revelation sends him into a dark spiral of numbness, drinking, and chasing anything that will quiet the pain. What changes the direction isn't a self-help hack or a perfect plan, but a powerful faith experience he describes as immediate peace the moment he steps into church. From there, we talk about forgiveness, daily discipline, and how to share faith without using it to shame people.Today, he puts that transformation into action through Boss Ministry and SHIELD, his anti-bullying program focused on Strength, Honor, Integrity, Empowerment, Leadership, and Discipline. We get into bullying in Hawaii, cyberbullying that follows kids home, and why real prevention has to involve schools, families, and the community, not just assemblies and slogans. If you care about youth mentorship, breaking generational cycles, and building safer schools, this conversation will stay with you. At 59 years old, Halle Berry is stepping into her most authentic chapter yet, and she's not asking for permission. In this candid conversation with Hoda Kotb on Making Space, the Oscar-winning actress and director pulls back the curtain on the "invisible" stage of aging, the realities of menopause, and why she is done managing everyone else's expectations. Halle opens up about her passion project, and why she's fighting to destigmatize women's health in a society that often overlooks women once they turn 50. She also gets candid about her partnership with Joylux and her new product, "Juicy Like a Peach," sharing how this innovation helped her reclaim her sex life and why she believes it's time to stop shying away from important conversations about pleasure. While the podcast team is taking a Radical Sabbatical, Kim is interviewing authors of the books that have had a big impact on her in the past two years. Building high-performance teams, especially in dynamic industries, can be one of the biggest challenges a leader faces. Sometimes passionate founders or senior leaders can go from passionate advocate to authoritarian autocrat. Left unchecked, this can lead to organizations underperforming in the long term and missed opportunities. So where is the balance? In this episode, Kim speaks with Liz Wiseman, the author of multiple New York Times bestsellers. Liz and Kim explore the pitfalls of authoritarian leadership, the power of multipliers, and how leaders can foster environments where everyone does the best work of their lives and builds the best relationships of their careers. Liz does point out that there are certain, limited instances where a top down, “command and control” approach is the right choice (for example, during an acute crisis), but these instances should be rare and targeted. They also discuss practical strategies for managing diminishing leaders and creating impact regardless of leadership style. They also talk about the importance of understanding power dynamics in leadership. Guest Background: Liz Wiseman is a researcher and executive advisor who teaches leadership to top organizations worldwide. She wrote the New York Times bestsellers Multipliers, The Multiplier Effect, and Wall Street Journal bestsellers Rookie Smarts and Impact Players.
