Bing Chen is the Executive Chairman, CEO, and Co-founder of Gold House, a leading cultural ecosystem dedicated to empowering Asian Pacific creators and entrepreneurs to drive societal change. A visionary leader in media and diversity, Bing was formerly YouTube's Global Head of Creator Development and Management, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the global creator economy. He has been recognized on Forbes' 30 Under 30 list and honored as a Hollywood Reporter Next Gen Leader and ABC News History Maker. Bing also serves on numerous boards, including the World Economic Forum's Global Shapers. He is a Harvard-educated strategist known for building community-driven initiatives that amplify underrepresented voices. Through Gold House and beyond, Bing continues to push boundaries in media, venture capital, and cross-cultural innovation. In this episode, Bing brings wit, vulnerability, and visionary insight to the conversation. He discusses his upbringing as a Taiwanese-American in the South, his early confidence, and how experiences in Shanghai helped shape his understanding of racism and privilege. He gives a masterclass in the creator economy, offering tips for monetization, longevity, and community building. He also dives into Gold House's mission to make Asian-led creativity mainstream, explaining its work in film, venture, music, and health. Throughout, Bing emphasizes the importance of shared humanity over divisions and champions a collaborative, abundance-minded future.  Parents, Prom, and the Cabbage Patch: Childhood and Family Stories: Bing shares hilarious and heartfelt stories about his parents' immigration, cultural quirks, and growing up in Knoxville, Tennessee. This includes some very memorable (and very real) parental sex talk. (2:25) Magic Bikes and Southern Roots: Growing Up Asian in the South: Bing reflects on his unique childhood experience in a mostly white Southern town, noting how he didn't face racism until moving to California. He discusses confidence, energy, and how being different can actually attract others. (5:45)Band Geeks and Prom Regrets: High School and Identity Formation: In this personal segment, Bing opens up about high school, popularity, belonging to many social circles, and his bittersweet prom story. He touches on early lessons in connection and rejection. (8:00)Buffets, Boys' Clubs, and Chubby Cattle: Food as a Love Language: Ami and Bing bond over their love of buffets, with Bing recounting how he formed a boys' club just to avoid eating alone at Hometown Buffet. He drops a hidden gem recommendation in NYC and name-drops Chubby Cattle Group. (12:45)Building YouTube and the Creator Economy From Scratch: Bing gets into the serious stuff: his pivotal role at YouTube, how he helped coin “creator,” and what current creators need to know about sustaining success. This is a goldmine for anyone working in media or content creation. (14:00)Gold House = The Asian Disney?: Changing Culture at Scale: Bing breaks down what Gold House actually does—from investing in ventures to pushing Asian narratives in film, music, and business. He compares it to the rise of hip-hop and explains the long-term cultural strategy. (20:30)We're More Similar Than We Think”: Stereotypes and Species-Level Thinking: In a profound and slightly controversial segment, Bing argues that the most damaging stereotype isn't about race—but about our belief that we're all so different. He emphasizes unity over hyper-specificity. (30:00)Candy, Concerts, and Cracking From Burnout: Rapid Fire and Vulnerability: In a fun, fast-paced wrap-up, Bing talks about burnout, sour candy as therapy, why he doesn't complain, and his love for Tupac and Hans Zimmer. He ends on a strong note about ethics, ambition, and resilience. (37:30) Connect with Bing Chen:WebsiteInstagramLinkedInX Let's Connect:Instagram This podcast is produced by Ginni Media.

Our new book... STORY QUESTIONS: How To Unlock Your Story One Question At A Time https://payhip.com/b/ZTvq9 Watch the video version of this podcast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44Ef6XtYdl8 Jesse Harris started his filmmaking career early, writing and directing his first feature when he was 17. He opted against college and used the money to fund his feature that he wrote and directed, which was eventually picked up for US theatrical distribution and by HBO Europe. In 2007, to support other young filmmakers, Jesse founded NFFTY (National Film Festival for Talented Youth), which has grown into the largest and most prestigious youth film festival in the world. Jesse put his filmmaking career on hold for several years to support other young directors and build a premier showcase for aspiring directors. Variety named Jesse one of 25 talents who transformed youth entertainment and was named one of City Arts Magazine's Top 50 Culture Makers. His feature was shortlisted for the 2004 Independent Spirit Awards 'Someone to Watch' Award and was one of 20 features invited to the 2004 IFP New York Film Market. Jesse's recently been named a Global Shaper, an initiative of the World Economic Forum, built around young entrepreneurs and do-gooders. Jesse returned to filmmaking in the commercial world, now bringing years of experience crafting beautiful stories for brands. His commercial work has been seen on TV around the world, working with clients such as Volvo, Microsoft, Disney and more. His 2018 short film, Wind in the Night was one of seven films selected for the 2019 Prix SNCF du Polar in France and picked up for distribution in France, Asia, UK and USA. The film was a proof of concept for his next feature, Borrego (available January 14, 2022).

With a strong foundation in AI, biotech, and nuclear risk management, she champions the responsible evolution of transformative tech for humanity's advancement.Session SummaryEmilia envisions a future where our innate talents join forces with artificial intelligence to tackle global challenges. This isn't merely about the speed of AI advancements, but how they harmonise with human goals. Emilia stresses the importance of creating positive narratives, ones that integrate AI with genuine human empathy, pointing towards a world where technology complements, not replaces, our connections. To get here, however, she emphasises the need for thoughtful regulation, which moves away from only-theoretical approaches, and promotes an inclusive, multi-stakeholder approach. Emilia sees this pathway as a means to harness AI's capabilities fully. Looking ahead, she believes AI can better human health, pioneer bioengineering, and aid in space exploration, whilst enhancing human connection. For her, it's more than just mitigating risk – it's about unlocking the vast potential that AI and human collaboration promise. Neil Koenig, ideaXme board advisor and former BBC Series Producer interviews Gyri Reiersen, Co-founder and CPO, Tanso. Neil comments: Despite countless warnings from scientists about the dangers that greenhouse gas emissions pose to our environment, it seems that many businesses have still to wake up to the gravity of the situation. “It always surprises me how little companies know about their emissions” says Gyri Reiersen. An activist, entrepreneur, and self-confessed “nerd”, she is also co-founder of Tanso, a start-up based in Munich that offers software to help industrial companies understand and manage their carbon footprint. Although Tanso was only recently founded, it has attracted support from a range of venture capital and angel investors, whilst its products are already being used by some large German industrial enterprises. I had the chance to interview Gyri at this year's Symposium, an annual event organised by the students at the university of St Gallen in Switzerland. In this interview for ideaXme, Gyri Reiersen talks about how the idea for her start-up came about, the challenges of helping enterprises to understand the role they need to play in tackling climate change, and her optimistic belief that, if we all work together, we can solve the difficult challenges that lie ahead. Gyri Reiersen Biography: Gyri is a climate activist, co-founder, and CPO of the ClimateTech startup Tanso. Driven by the urgency and importance of mitigating climate change, Tanso aims to remove the structural barriers that hinder corporations to decarbonize. They leverage the power of data and machine learning to help industrial manufacturing companies transition towards a lower carbon economy. Tanso are a product-driven company using state-of-the-art technology and scientific research to tackle climate change and making sustainability accounting as integrated, transparent, and verifiable as financial accounting. Passionate about leveraging tech and innovation to solve society's largest issues, she recently worked on research together with TUM, ETH Zurich, and MIT using machine learning to estimate carbon storage in reforestation projects through satellite and drone imagery. As an active member of the Global Shapers, an initiative for young leaders, and other organizations, she has launched multiple initiatives to empower founders to tackle climate change, increase diversity in tech, and break the stigma around mental health. She is also an epidemiologist, operating at the intersection of global health and policy, and a Ph.D. candidate at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, investigating methods in health systems strengthening, particularly in the context of crises.   She has served as a global health consultant and expert advisory committee member for various international agencies including the UN, the WHO, the GPMB, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the World Bank, with a special focus on institutional design for global health governance, monitoring efforts to better understand drivers of risk of health emergencies, as well as health systems resilience & service delivery during periods of shocks. Previously, she advised the Government of Canada in designing and drafting the country's first comprehensive global health research strategic plan. Her commitment to working with groups facing vulnerable conditions emerged through her work with the refugee resettlement program in Québec, where she acted as a point of contact between a wide range of Canadian ministries, local community partners, and refugee families across Québec. In 2018, she was selected to be a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum, and in 2021, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Prativa is a graduate of McGill University's Faculty of Science and has received a Master's in Public Health in Infectious Disease Epidemiology from Columbia University as a Merit Scholar Recipient. She also regularly appears on CBC and CTV News and other media outlets providing Canadians with practical suggestions and advice regarding COVID-19. Listen until 06:59 to hear Dr. Baral talk about her experience at Davos and being proud of who you are.  ”Leadership is something that's been kind of advertised by corporate America, right? And you gotta wear that navy blue suit and speak a certain way and not show compassion or empathy or whatnot. And I think, I hope that our global definition of leadership is changing. And so if I go back next time to Davos, I think I would wear a lot more colours than I did. So I did wear, you know, a red dress at a certain point and a red blazer at a certain point. But Davos, let me see that you want to stand out. I can't hide the fact that I'm a woman. I can't hide the fact that I'm brown. And so instead of trying to fit the mould and wearing a navy blue suit, which, you know, there's nothing wrong with wearing one, but I would wear something brighter and bolder. Why would you want to hide your identity or the pieces of you that make you, you just wear the bright colours if that's what you want to wear, and just be because there's no one else like you. Right?”Check out the book! - Fearless: Girls with Dreams, Women with VisionThe Fearless Women Podcastfearlesswomenpodcast@gmail.comThe Beacon Agency

Hilda N. Liswani is a sustainability leader with a focus on inclusive innovation. She has more than 10 years of experience working with policymakers, venture capitalists, corporations, and academics to develop, communicate, and implement sustainability strategies. Notable organizations include EPFL, the EU, the Mastercard Foundation, and Siemens. Through her organization WeBloom, she is passionate about diversity and inclusion to transform tech ecosystems around the world. She has been awarded the Queen's Young Leaders Award and honored as a Forbes 30 under 30. And as a Global Shaper for the World Economic Forum, she is part of a community of change makers. She believes that innovation can only reach its full potential if it involves everyone. Heidi: Hilda, you are the Executive Director of WeBloom, a non-profit organization based in Zurich. What is your vision for this organization and how did WeBloom come about? Hilda: Our vision at WeBloom is pretty bold and ambitious. We want to transform global tech ecosystems around the world and make them more inclusive. We want them to reflect the society they claim to serve. All these products and services from tech companies designed to help us, the consumers. We want them to reflect society as a whole. The reason WeBloom was created is because in the processes of tech development, tech investment, in all the different areas of the tech industry, there's just not enough inclusion of women and men or cultural minorities. And that's a really critical problem because tech impacts all of our lives. Heidi: There is a connection between diversity, inclusion and sustainability that is obvious to some people but less so to others. Hilda: The relationship between diversity and sustainability? These seem like two very different issues, but they are connected: Most sustainability solutions are actually developed by women. On the investor side, among retail investors, women tend to be more interested in supporting sustainability projects. So they are the main drivers of sustainability. And, most sustainability startups are founded by women. If women develop most sustainability solutions and at the same time do not have access to the right funding, this means that many sustainability solutions do not come to market Heidi: What do you think are the consequences of not addressing these issues? Hilda: According to McKinsey, we will lose 26% of GDP if we don't integrate all women into the economy. And at the end of last year, the Linnean Report was published: a series of studies found that many female executives are currently leaving their jobs because they cannot reconcile them with their values. And on a human level? If women are not able to participate, what does that mean for our society? What does that mean for the younger generation? How are women perceived on a daily basis? How do they experience their daily lives? So there are consequences on both the macro and micro levels. https://www.webloomglobal.com

How To Thrive In Relationships In A Digitally Driven World, with Live Deeply Founder, Jenny Dalio—Never Settle Challenge:With Live Deeply, I am challenging the way people build and maintain relationships. There's a loss of connection and community in the world today that cannot be restored without our willing and intentional participation. We do that by taking the time to listen to one another, creating safe spaces for conversation and taking the risk of being vulnerable.Live Deeply's Mission:From the moment I could talk, I was asking existential questions. Why are we here, and what makes life worthwhile? Along the way, I discovered that for me, a prerequisite for a purposeful life involves meaningful relationships. And these are built through deep and enriching conversations.I'm also challenging the way that people gather. So often, I go to events where every detail is meticulously thought out, but no attention is given to the guest's emotional experience. Do they feel intimidated? With a track record of founding startups at a young age, and executing entrepreneurial roles in global non-profits, Saurav Roy was selected as one of the youngest Global Shapers by the World Economic Forum at Bangalore in 2017.  Since then, he has studied for a Masters in Regenerative Economics at Schumacher Collage, and is now working for the Carbon Tracker Initiative, a London-based, independent financial think tank that strives to influence the nature of global finance, away from stranded fossil fuel assets. It has cemented the terms 'Carbon bubble', 'stranded assets' and 'unburnable carbon' into the financial lexicon. Saurav's Master's thesis focused on the 'just transition' elements of the Green New Deal with the realisation that 'everything would change and everything would stay the same' in terms of the balance between the global north's endless consumption at the expense of human dignity, ecosystem annihilation and cultural balance in the global south.  He examined the lack of supply chain justice in the existing concepts, evolved radical, inspiring ideas of how a global token system might fund non-debt-based climate reparations, and created the idea of a 'Carbon Truth and Reconciliation Commission' - because not all climate devastation can be healed simply by throwing money at it. In this inspiring, thought-provoking episode, we explore these ideas in depth, evolving ideas and questions for COP27 and learn Saurav's three core concepts for healing our times. **RE-RELEASE** Ok, ok ok. So I know I said that we weren't releasing episodes until September. But this week, we learned that one of our previous guests, Steven Olikara, former Millennial Action Project CEO and current candidate for US Senate, just got one step closer to winning his bid to become the Democratic Party's nominee for the 2022 election. Steven is campaigning in Wisconsin for a critical seat in an election year that will determine which party controls the Senate as a majority for the next two years. The Democratic nominee will face off against current sitting senator, Republican Ron Johnson. This is not a political podcast. And I'm not hosting this show as a partisan. But “Technically Human” is a podcast about human values, about the pursuit of ethics and equity in our society, and about how we can build a society that better stands to live up to our human values. So many issues at stake for the future of an ethical and equitable world, technological and otherwise, hang in the balance of this election. Steven is the only candidate in this race that I believe will unequivocally protect, support, and enhance these values. There is only one debate in the Wisconsin Democratic Primary for US Senate and Steven needs 5,000 people to donate by this Thursday in order to qualify for the debate stage. If 5,000 people donate just $1 each by this Thursday, June 30th at 11:59 pm EST, Steven will qualify for the debate and the world will get to hear his message.  To support, please visit https://secure.actblue.com/donate/olikara_debate.   ORIGINAL SHOW NOTES:  In this week's episode, I speak to Steven Olikara, founder of the Millenial Action Project (MAP), the largest nonpartisan organization of young lawmakers in the U.S. Steven and I discuss the role of tech in political activism and the challenges of bipartisanship in a technological age.  Steven Olikara has been named a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum, a Forbes 30 Under 30 in Law & Policy, and a Forward Under 40 by the Wisconsin Alumni Association.  JUST IN: This week, Steven announced his decision to form an exploratory committee for the U.S. Senate in Wisconsin, with the goal of running as a candidate in the 2022 election. In this episode, Nima shares some key insights from her journey as an impact entrepreneur, including the importance of practicing self-care, understanding your strengths and weaknesses and staying sharply focused on one goal. About Nima Sophia Tisdall:Nima is a conscious consumer whose role in the founding of Blue Lobster earned her a place on the Forbes 30 under 30 list. She is also a Global Shaper with the World Economic Forum, was named one of the Top 100 Women in Denmark, and was part of the Obama Foundation as a European Leader.Episode highlights: As an impact entrepreneur, Nima combines capitalistic market forces and the values of the non-profit sector. By doing this, she ensures that her business contributes to making the world a better place. (02:21) Communicating your story so that people can easily connect with it is a vital part of rallying support amongst your target audience. When people understand your mission, they are more likely to stand with you. (07:22) When you are driven by a greater mission than yourself, rather than by money, you are more likely to push through difficult times. Money can be made anywhere, but the true purpose will keep you anchored.  (15:08) Trying to solve too many problems is a recipe for disaster because it will be too overwhelming, and you will likely not get anything done. Instead, hone in on your main goal and stay focused on achieving that. (18:59) It is vital to ensure that you practice self-care as an entrepreneur. You will only be able to operate effectively in your workplace if you look after yourself. (24:35) It is important to understand your own strengths and weaknesses and be open to delegating work to others as a leader. This way, you can focus your energy where it will be most effective, and your team can handle the rest. (29:54) Nima's best advice for entrepreneurs:  “Find one thing. Find one thing that you can change in the world and focus on that because you can't change the whole world at once.” (18:58) You probably won't get anywhere if you try and do too much, so stick to your main goal! Connect with Nima: LinkedIn Instagram Website Follow Beyond 8 Figures: LinkedIn Twitter Website
