Wie so vielen ist es Childish Gambino nicht besonders gut gegangen am 3.15.20 als die Pandemie so richtig in Fahrt gekommen war. Um seinen Fans etwas mit auf den Weg zu geben hat er damals ein nicht fertiges Album, betitelt 3.15.20, online gestellt. Vier Jahre später ist das Album überarbeitet und mit zwei neuen Songs unter dem Titel Altavista erscheinen. Childish Gambino konnte sich damit nicht abfinden, dass das Album damals sang und klanglos an den meisten vorübergezogen ist. Auch nicht besonders gut geht es Childish Gambino auf dem Song „Psilocybae“ mit 21 Savage, Ink und Kadhja Bonet, der ursprünglich „12.38“ geheißen hat. Der über sechs Minuten lange Song ist das Stream of Consciousness Protokoll eines Abends, der nach dem Konsum von Magic Mushrooms völlig aus dem Ruder gelaufen ist. Cara Stricker is an Australian born director, writer, musician and artist. Stricker first started making films, photographs and installations as a young teenager, stemming from her background as a dancer and musician. She is known for her work that combines filmmaking with her creative direction, choreography, and expressive narratives. Her unique blend of feminism, nature and performance creates work that is both subversive and otherworldly. Her work is screened, exhibited, printed, and performed around the world. Stricker's major commissions include: creating a techno-surrealist land-based prayer prompt short film with the Miccosukee, Seminole and Black Carribean community's of Miami within the Everglades, Allapattah, and installations by James Turrell, Es Devlin and teamLab for Superblue; Bvglari global campaigns for 23' and 24' featuring Zendaya and Anne Hathaway; a four part polyptych instillation and music video for Alicia Keys; visual sonic film about the late Aaliyah's legacy; and album films for Chloe and Halle, Blood Orange, Kelsey Lu, Amber Mark, Tei Shi and Kadhja Bonet. She has collaborated with global brands such as Gucci, MAC Makeup, Chanel, Alexander Wang, Missoni, musicians such as SZA and Perfume Genius, and photographed for titles such as Vogue, Dazed, I-D Magazine, Fader, Interview Magazine and Oyster. Her work has been awarded and screened internationally including at Cannes Lions, Tribeca Film Festival, Camerimage, Cannes Short Film Festival, Raindance Film Festival, Berlin Music Video Awards, Toronto Shorts Film Festival, Shots awards, HollyShort Film Festival, New Orleans Film Festival, Rooftop Film Festival New York, London Short Film Festival, Palm Springs International Shortfest, Sugar Mountain festival and Vivid Sydney. Her short narrative ‘Maverick', starring Abbey Lee and Rhys Coiro, which she wrote and directed, premiered at FFFest, and her commercial film short, “Carlos,” that explores how micro-mobility is transforming the lives of its users, was shortlisted for both best non-fiction short at Cannes Lions and Best Branded Content at the Tribeca X Award. Most recent solo exhibitions include two mixed media shows at The Hole NYC. Her latest albums include collaboration with musician John Kirby (Solange Knowles, Frank Ocean, Blood Orange, Sebastian Tellier) to direct, perform and produce music for their audio visual album, ‘Drool', and her solo ambient album and short film ‘Formless', both released on Terrible Records, with screenings and performances across Australia, LA and New York City. As a child, Kadhja Bonet's Christmas holiday tradition was to spend the whole festive season taking refuge under her bed, or in her closet. Growing up with Asperger's Syndrome, the continuous Christmas clamour just made her want to shut out the world until December's end. It wasn't until recently (owing largely to a Yuletide-loving partner) that she took it upon herself to try and carve out a space for herself in the world of holiday music and culture. This most unexpected journey to reclaim the Christmas season culminated in two new creations: a holiday radio play called Apocalypsemas Now, and remarkable new EP, entitled California Holiday. Kadhja's visionary musical artistry is built upon her unique gifts as a singer and songwriter, as well as her stunning synthesis of folk, soul, pop, jazz and psychedelia. She's released a string of greatly-acclaimed albums, EPs, and singles - plus collaborations with an eclectic array of artists, ranging from Anderson .Paak to Bonobo to Khruangbin. And with her spell-binding voice and genre-defying musical sensibility, she's certainly unlocked some fresh new holiday magic with her latest release, out on Ninja Tune in December, 2022. California Holiday finds the Los Angeles artist interpreting songs of the season that are significant for her, in her own inimitable way. On top of material that draws on sources ranging from Stevie Wonder to Sesame Street, the title track is an original that takes a Californian perspective on some of the multi-layered feelings that the holidays can evoke (without ever actually mentioning any particular holiday). Genau dieses Verständnis eines „guten Lebens“ sehen wir auch auf dem impressionistischen Gemälde „Nach dem Mittagessen“ von dem französischen Maler Pierre-Auguste Renoir aus dem Jahr 1879, um das es in dieser Folge des STÄDEL MIXTAPE geht. Dabei befinden wir uns in einer Zeit, in der sich viel verändert und im Wandel ist. Nicht nur in der Kunst, sondern auch in der Gesellschaft. Der deutsch-französische Krieg ist acht Jahre her und die Industrialisierung in vollem Gange. Wer sind die Personen auf dem Gemälde? Was macht den Impressionismus besonders und warum hatten es Künstlerinnen und Künstler wie Renoir so schwer am damaligen Kunstmarkt? Um diesen Fragen auf den Grund zu gehen, wandern wir zumindest imaginär durch die Straßen des Montmartre, schauen auf das Leben von Renoir und betrachten die Malweise des Impressionismus. Bonobo - "Rosewood" from the 2022 album Fragments on Ninja Tune. Since the late ‘90s, Simon Green has been sharing his sweeping electronic grooves as Bonobo to much acclaim. 2022 will see him unveil his hotly anticipated seventh full-length Fragments. Created during the pandemic, the songs were made out of fragmented pieces of ideas the British-born, LA-based producer put together while on lockdown with the help of some notable names like Jamila Woods, Joji, Kadhja Bonet, and Jordan Rakei. Our Song of the Day is the record's lead single, “Rosewood.” Customarily warm and woozy, the song has a locked groove with the repeating phrase, “I won't leave you,” providing emotional resonance until the song's cathartic dance floor build-up. It's a lesson in restraint, letting the subtle flourishes of the song shine while never fully releasing or doing too much. Fragments is out this Friday, January 14 via Ninja Tune. It follows up Bonobo's 2020 collaborative EP with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Heartbreak / 6000 Ft. and his Grammy-nominated 2017 full-length Migration. D'autant plus que comme tu le sais je suis venu ici pour passer quelques jours avec Rihanna et ce matin en prenant mon café au Petit Gourmet à Nassau (c'est la Menuiserie en 10 fois plus cher et le patron est beaucoup moins drole qu'Antoine) j'ai appris qu'en fait elle était à New York pour faire du shopping avec Cardi B (apparemment elles sont plus tellement brouillées) du coup je pense que la semaine va être longue pour moi. Heureusement je suis tombé sur Hervé qui m'a raconté qu'hier soir il était en concert à Massy et que le public était bien chelou à part ma soeur et sa mère. Ce mec est quand même un peu bizarre, il ne s'arrête jamais de danser même quand il boit son cappuccino. La déprime c'est surtout qu'il y a un seul disquaire ici et on dirait un peu le Black Market mais qui fait la taille du Laser Game de Saint Apo, je sens que je vais pas y trouver la nouvelle compile Bongo Joe. J'ai dégoté une petite librairie sympa avec plein de bouquins sur la musique caribéenne, je t'en ramènerai aucun car ils sont tous en anglais avec très peu de photos. Par contre j'ai vérifié ils vendent pas le livre de Zemmour, vraiment ça fait des vacances !! Bref j'ai déjà hate de rentrer pour faire une belle émission avec toi vendredi prochain, dans le froid et le brouillard. Passe le bonjour à personne, j'aurai le temps cette semaine d'écrire au moins 50 cartes postales. Et je te laisse le soin de calmer Julien parce que j'ai pas encore envoyé ma programmation d'octobre avant la fameuse date limite que personne ne connait même pas lui. Soul singer and producer Aloe Blacc talks to Gregory Porter, Kadhja Bonet and Chelsea Jade about the purpose behind some of their work, writing songs in planes under blankets, and what happens to the creative process after losing those closest to you. Aloe Blacc is a soul singer and producer raised in Orange County, USA. He absorbed the sounds of cumbia and salsa from his Panamanian parents, before moving on to hip-hop, forming the duo Emanon. Then came his worldwide hit I Need a Dollar, and his life would never be the same again. He’s talking to artists both new and legendary, all now based in California. First up is soul, jazz, and gospel singer Gregory Porter, a Grammy winner who’s been compared to the likes of Nat King Cole and Stevie Wonder. He released his latest album All Rise is August last year. Next is Kadhja Bonet, a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter with a background in classical violin. She blends cosmic jazz, R&B, folk, and classical, and her father is an opera singer, so music runs in the family. Finally, Chelsea Jade is a South African-born pop singer and producer, who grew up in New Zealand and is now based in LA. She was previously known as Watercolors, and dropped out of art school before finding her feet in the music industry.

Maryalice Ashbrook was born into a family that seemingly had it all. Her grandfather was president of a huge company that listed a movie studio among its subsidiaries. Her mother counted Joan Crawford and Jane Russell among her friends. So how did Maryalice end up being sexually abused by a foster carer? Her mother’s pill addiction and divorce from her father led her to give up Maryalice’s brothers up to foster care. Meanwhile her mother’s continuing struggle with pills meant Maryalice spent time at MacLaren Hall Children’s Center before being placed with a foster family. Despite these setbacks and others Maryalice kept her positive attitude and keeps reaching for what she needs from life.
