Fentanyl poisoning, drug overdose, and mental health are growing problems in the United States with each year more and more youth being victims of these social issues. In this podcast, we talk to the founders of the Michael Leonardi foundation and the parents of Michael Leonardi who lost his life to fentanyl poisoning in 2020. Please help support their cause and help raise awareness of this matter. BIO: Mona Leonardi is the co-founder of the Michael Leonardi Foundation, a bay area non-profit organization dedicated to raising illicit fentanyl awareness in communities across the north bay area. After losing her son, Michael on February 24, 2020, at the age of 20 to fentanyl poisoning, she started the foundation, along with Michael's father and sister, to be Michael's voice and the voice of those lost to fentanyl poisoning. Fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin, is taking the lives of young Americans at an alarming rate at the hands of drug trafficking organizations and dealers. The number one cause of death in the U.S. for ages 18-45 is fentanyl. Mark graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology and is originally from Long Island NY. He started a career in the hospitality industry working for iconic hotel companies such as the Four Seasons, the historic Shoreham Hotel in Washington DC, the world-famous Hotel del Coronado, and the Claremont Resort and Spa before starting his own company planning large-scale corporate events nationwide. Currently, Mark is the general manager of a tour company with offices in Napa and Sonoma Valleys while he is not working on the Michael Leonardi Foundation. His daughter Julia is a student at UCSB, and he also has a three-year-old son, Samual, who keeps him busy but very happy. He also thinks about and misses his son Michael daily. Mark's goals are to help spread the word about the dangers of fentanyl poisoning and help keep our children safe. Heart disease is the number one killer in United States and with most major heart attacks happening in people with normal cholesterol(1), it's about time we figure out what exactly causes heart disease and troubleshoot the underlying issues. We may have been on a wild goose chase for the last few decades, further defended and propagated by documentaries and health associations, and it potentially costed us lives of millions of people globally. Bio: Ivor Cummins BE(Chem) CEng MIEI completed a Chemical Engineering degree in 1990. He has since spent over 25 years in corporate technical leadership and management positions. Ivor’s particular specialty is leading teams in complex problem-solving scenarios. Several years ago Ivor encountered a complex technical challenge in his personal life. Receiving poor blood test results, he was unable to get solutions via the doctors consulted. He thus embarked on an intense period of biochemical research into the science of human metabolism. Within eight weeks he had resolved and optimized all of his blood test metrics. Also, he had shed 30lbs of bodyfat with relative ease. In the following years he continued his research on the many “root causes” of modern disease, from “cholesterol” through to insulin resistance. He has also given many public talks and chaired interviews with various health experts. These are available on his YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPn4FsiQP15nudug9FDhluA. Gary Wilson's talk, "The Great Porn Experiment" has changed lives of many men and has brought into attention some of the underlying challenges of our modern world. With erectile dysfunction rates skyrocketing in men under age 40, it was about time we started to look at the science and evidence behind these scary numbers. What's fascinating is how there is overlap in various addictive patterns and at Ketogeek we wanted to better understand how the brain works while potentially interpolating the findings into other lifestyle choices and addictive activities. Bio: Gary Wilson is author of Your Brain on Porn: Internet Pornography and the Emerging Science of Addiction and presenter of the popular TEDx talk ‘The Great Porn Experiment,’ which has been viewed more than 9 million times, and translated into 18 languages. He hosts the website ‘Your Brain On Porn’, which was created for those seeking to understand and reverse compulsive porn use: http://yourbrainonporn.com. He taught anatomy and physiology for years and has long been interested in the neurochemistry of addiction, mating and bonding. In 2015 the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health presented Wilson with its Media Award for outstanding media contributions and public education on pornography addiction.
