“Send Coach John a message”Found this huge connection to some things that I've been thinking about lately - the people in my life that have made a huge impact on me. It comes from The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) and it reminds us to “be the things you loved most about the people who are gone.” I am thinking about so many people and I'm trying to take what not only they meant to me, but the lessons they taught me and live my life with them in mind. I just shared this image with a friend who tragically lost a family member. It sure does help take what's wonderful from people and keep it going in “life”. Thanks for listening. What do you think you might be saying on your deathbed? Will you be looking back at your life with a sense of joy and completeness, or, do you think that perhaps you might be consumed with regret? As this week's guest shares, “It's easy to assume that you will live with great health to a ripe old age, then die peacefully in your sleep wearing your favourite pyjamas but it doesn't work out that way for most people…” Bronnie Ware is an internationally acclaimed speaker and author of the bestselling memoir, The Top Five Regrets of the Dying. Published more than 10 years ago, it's been translated into 32 languages and continues to attract new audiences. The book is about her eight years as an end-of-life carer, the close relationships she formed, and lessons she learned from those dying people, which changed her life forever. In this conversation, we discuss some of the various regrets of the dying and what they can teach us so that we can live better lives, right now. We talk about the concept of choice. Everything we do, or don't do, has a price – be it time or money. Our culture incentivises what we can measure – salaries, possessions, status, social media ‘likes' and comments. But Bronnie urges us to realise the sacredness and value of our time. Is something a choice worth making if it means you have to sacrifice time with your loved ones? Is it worth pushing extra hard for the promotion that may bring you more money but also more stress and more time away from home? These are decisions that I think we all need to wrestle with from time to time if we are truly going to be living a contented and intentional life. We also talk about the real meaning of regret, what it means to be courageous, and how self-compassion can help us see our mistakes as a natural part of life and growth. Importantly, Bronnie also defines the qualities and habits she observed in those patients who reached the end of life with no regrets – what can we learn from these people? Death can be a topic that many people shy away from discussing but Bronnie is a wonderful soul who is able to talk about death in a relatable, powerful and authentic way. Appreciating we are going to die is the first step to getting more out of life. This really was a thought-provoking and intimate conversation. I hope you enjoy listening. Allie's dad, Ron Simmons, kicks off his new twice-monthly Relatable series with a hard-hitting look at 2026's opening headlines: the U.S. military's January 3 capture of Venezuela's Nicolás Maduro, who is currently facing narco-terrorism and trafficking charges in New York. His capture was legally justified under precedents like Panamanian President Manuel Noriega's 1989 arrest, yet despite this, Democrats reveal their underlying hypocrisy and bemoan the terrorist's capture. Ron also unpacks the ill-fated Minneapolis shooting involving an ICE agent and a 37-year-old woman who was trying to impede federal agents. And he also looks at the White House's executive order push on housing affordability. Lastly, Ron answers listener questions in his segment “Words from the Wagon” on enduring faith, politics in relationships, GOP midterm strategy, and more. “Send Coach John a message”I found a very targeted message to myself today and it came from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) and this was it: “A message for today … Starting over doesn't mean failure; it's a brave act of courage. You're allowed to try again, no matter how many times you've started.” Wow, did I need to hear this and in today's episode I get a bit fired up about some things that are going on in my life and around all of us too. It's ok to start again. It' ok to offer ourselves some grace. It's totally ok to just keep choosing to get better!! I love that connection! “Send Coach John a message”I remember this thought that I saw from The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) that my friend @DrJeffLpip shared many times. “Hope and Fear cannot occupy the same space. Invite one to stay.” - Maya Angelou was the one who put that powerful thought out there many years ago. I needed this reminder, again, and I know I need to simply make the choice that for me, Hope has the space for sure! There are too many things out there connected to fear and I don't want to choose that any longer. What about you? Thanks for listening. Books shape the way we view the world, they even change how we narrate the experiences of our life. When we read a book with a happy and courageous heroine, we began to narrate or describe our lives through the lens of being happy and courageous women. In 2025, we loved the Emma M. Lion books for the gentleness and joy and whimsy they brought into our lives. We loved Ronald Rolheiser for the lessons on community, and Isola for the lessons in forgiveness and courage. Now, in 2026 we're excited for a new list of books we're reading through and learning from, and new heroines who can shape our character. “Send Coach John a message”I found so many things that I wanted to (and could have) share with you today. It could easily be 10 podcasts. This one connected with me first and it came from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) and he shared this preview of what the post was all about: “A message for today … Don't be afraid to embrace life, chase your dreams and live fully. Show up every day with passion and courage, and let nothing hold you back. Life is rare and beautiful—go all in with it!” His post moved me so much and I shared these thoughts on his post as I shared it with others: “I could do so much better with this for my life… I've had my moments of not being afraid, but not like I know I could have. Good news for me, I can show up today - right in this moment I have - with passion, courage, love, etc., and do my best with the task at hand.” I shared a lot about this in today's episode and it honestly connects with a lot of the thoughts, feelings, ideas swirling around in my head from other items I have connected with this morning - but I hope (as I always do) this gets you thinking and then acting in a direction that helps you with the things going on in your life. Whatever it is, keep it up! Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I just came across a post from Kobe Bryant Stories & Motivation (@kobehighlight) where there is a clip of Kobe sharing a thought that made a connection to a really good 2026 mentality: “Always keep going. The storm eventually ends.” - Kobe Bryant. That whole idea of persistence is one that seems to keep popping up to remind me as to how important it is to have - it seems now more than ever in so many ways. I'm working on this as I found this post. Trying to focus (my One Word for 2026) on doing little things better, all throughout my day. I want to focus on many of the areas that I know I need to put more effort in my life. The key is to zero in on one at a time. Reading, fitness, learning new skills, educating myself in different areas, relationships, my health, my attitude & responses to things, etc. Kobe is right - the “storm” does eventually pass and then there is usually a new one coming on the horizon. Just. Keep. Going. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I remember this guy from when I was much younger. In fact around 10 when I remember hearing about Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13) since he was drafted 9th overall by the Kansas City Royals in the mid 1970's. He has been around baseball for a long time and now he's sharing stories and lessons from the great game that can help all of us, whether we even like baseball, let alone play it. He shared this gem: “We're not finished products. Continue to grow. Look for growth opportunities every day.” I love this quick and simple thought, that we as humans (especially this human), seem to have trouble understanding the validity of this thought. He has inspired me by his humility and love for helping others. Coach Hurdle has mentioned recently that he really looked to change and grow a couple of years ago, so he started out on his journey of writing a book. I got his book as a Christmas gift from my parents and I'm starting to read it. Which for me is also writing in the book, taking notes, underlining, sharing items from it, etc. A BIG suggestion I have for you is to go out and get your own copy that you can write in if you want to. Find more info here on his website: https://www.clinthurdle.com/book . Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found something I wanted to share and it comes from Motivational Quotes (@motivational) and it's something that adds to my strength and optimism here in the new year. “Remaining positive doesn't mean you have to be happy all the time. It means that even on tough days, you hold onto the belief that better days are on the horizon.” This is something that has been a part of my mindset for a long time. However, I needed reminding of this fact as there are plenty of times I forget the second part as I wallow away in dealing with negativity at times. It helps remind me that I am the one that has a major say in creating better days in my life!! Again, with all the “noise” going on around all of us - this helps to add to my strength of realizing that I'm more in control of my life than the “noise makers” think they are. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”I found an outstanding short clip from Coach Kara Lawson - Duke University Women's Basketball. It's all about the reminder that adversity is something that we don't get to have a say in how long it is. We need to remind ourselves that we do control how we respond, how we learn from it, and our attitude and focus on it. As we head into a new year, remember this simple clip. Send us a textThis episode highlights how small, consistent changes can create powerful, lasting transformation. Spencer Jones explains that while big life overhauls can sometimes work, they often lead to burnout or misalignment. Instead, making small tweaks — guided by a clear vision of where you want to go — builds sustainable success and keeps you aligned with your values and purpose.
Guest BioJerry Elkins is a lifelong adventurer whose journey has spanned skies, caves, coastlines, and countless open roads. He began flying hot air balloons in 1979 and, for nearly a decade, made his living as a traveling balloon barnstormer — eventually becoming the first pilot to fly in all 50 U.S. states. But Jerry's adventures go far beyond the basket. Over the past four decades, he's explored underwater worlds through SCUBA diving, delved into deep caves, traveled extensively, and built lasting connections through storytelling. As the second of four generations of Elkins balloon pilots, Jerry brings a rich legacy of curiosity, courage, and a deep love for the outdoors to every experience he shares.Show SummaryIn this episode of the Big World Made Small Adventure Travel Podcast, host Jason Elkins speaks with his father, Jerry, about a life defined by exploration, personal growth, and family legacy. Most people think discipline is about willpower. Ryan Holiday knows better — it's about habit. After writing multiple bestselling books on Stoicism and spending decades studying history's highest performers, the author of The Obstacle Is The Way and Ego Is The Enemy has cracked the code on why the world's hardest workers aren't just talented or lucky. They've built systems that make discipline inevitable. In this raw conversation, Ryan breaks down the exact frameworks used by Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, and Epictetus to stay calm under fire, make sharper decisions under pressure, and most importantly — get things done. We dive into why discipline isn't something you are but something you do, how the Stoics battled procrastination (Seneca said all fools are always getting ready to start), and why negative visualization beats positive manifestation every time. Ryan reveals his actual research process (analog note cards, not AI shortcuts), why he reads the same books over and over, and how to inoculate yourself against audience capture when everyone's telling you what to create. But this isn't theory — it's applied philosophy. We get into why waking up early is useless if you stay up till 2 AM, how to make hard things black and white so you can't rationalize exceptions, and why your calendar should have large blocks of white space, not meetings. Ryan walks through his panic rules from coaching the LA Rams, why ego destroys more empires than external obstacles, and how he went from running publicity stunts and media manipulation campaigns to building one of the most disciplined creative practices in the world. If you've ever felt like discipline is this vague thing you either have or don't, or if you're tired of procrastinating on the life you know you should be building, this episode will change how you think about work, focus, and what it actually takes to win. Protect what you own. Next makes it fast, simple, and painless. “Send Coach John a message”Well, it's the last day of 2025 and this little post that I found from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) reminds us about our journey in life. He shares his thoughts: “A message for today … As 2025 comes to a close, take a moment to breathe. You made it through lessons you didn't always notice & strength you didn't always feel. If you're tired, you tried. If you're unsure, you're still becoming. The year ends—but your journey continues.” The post he shares is from the Quotes Cafe that he shares something from every day. This one is: “As 2025 ends, take a quiet moment to breath. This year held struggles, lessons, and growth you didn't always notice - but you survived it all. If you're tired, you tried. If you're unsure, you're still becoming. Let go of what hurt, carry what taught you, and step into 2026 with a calmer heart and quiet hope. The year ends, but your journey continues.” This is a reminder that it's an every day item on my to do list. It's not just for a year. Breathing is always good. Learning lessons is always good. Putting in effort is always good. Find the little moments every day to connect with and build the life you want to build, each and every day you have. Send us a textThis episode dives into understanding your natural energy rhythms — the times of day when you feel most focused and creative. Spencer Jones shares how he schedules his creative work for mornings because that's when he feels “on fire.” He encourages listeners to notice when they naturally have the most energy and align their tasks with those rhythms to work smarter, not harder.
Most producers say they want to dominate 2026, yet many are still waiting for permission. Waiting for the “right time” to invest in themselves. Waiting to see if someone else will sign off on it. That mindset quietly keeps people stuck—and it's far more common than most want to admit. In this episode, I sit down with my client and friend, Andy Neary, for an honest, no-fluff conversation about what actually holds high performers back. We talk about why driven professionals often struggle with self-worth, why chasing a “guaranteed ROI” can sabotage momentum, and how confidence isn't something you wait to feel—it's something you build by consistently showing up for yourself. This is a real conversation about responsibility, ownership, and what it takes to stop playing small as the new year approaches.About The Guest: Andy Neary is a speaker, author, podcast host, and coach dedicated to helping professionals build the mindset, habits, and strategies needed to excel in business and life. A former professional baseball player in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, Andy leveraged discipline, unshakeable drive, and consistent daily habits to succeed at the highest level — despite being undersized for his position. Andy Neary - Speaker, Author, ConsultantToday, he applies those same lessons off the field through Complete Game Consulting, a coaching and training company he founded in 2019, where he advises insurance professionals and agencies on mindset, marketing, branding, and performance. Andy is also host of Bullpen Sessions, a podcast for driven professionals focused on mindset and tactics for success. He's a contributing author to the Amazon best-selling book Breaking Through the Status Quo and is a sought-after keynote speaker for events and podcasts. “Send Coach John a message”Sitting here with my co-producer on my lap (our dog), I'm thinking about it being the end of another year and what is coming in the next year. So many thoughts going through my mind, but everyone's mind. For me this is tying into my “one word” for 2026. It's not the only word I will focus in on, but it will be one that will be connected to me more. It's really two words, but I'll call it one. “Focus” is the one word - and the second one that is connected to it - “Intentional”. This one word idea comes from Jon Gordon (@jongordon11) and his book “One Word” (@GetOneWord) and Getoneword.com This has to be a day by day choice. Moment by moment, and I know I need to put the work in on this more than simply talking about it. The first connection to this episode comes from Essential Mastery (@EssentialMastry) where this thought was shared and got my attention: “The most valuable asset you own isn't money. It's the ability to think clearly in a world designed to confuse you. Mental clarity is wealth.” This is spot on for me as I've struggled with it throughout my life. A second connection to this episode comes from Dear Self (@Dearme2_) where this very simple post got my attention - “2026 will be different. No more repeated cycles. It's time to grow.” Again, my “focus” should be on the moment to moment, day to day, growth that I need to connect with; not just the entire new year. There is actually a third connection that I reposted just before this one from “Dear Self”. It comes from Your Best Version (@YourPrimePath) where this is shared: “Stick to the plan. Not your mood.” Way too often I let my mood dictate my thoughts and actions in particular moments. Even as I write this out and prepare to record, I'm catching my mind wanting to take me in other directions. It's awesome to be able to catch those moments and change the direction of my thoughts. Well, all I can say is it's great to connect with this as I look ahead to the new year. The year that I'll be turning 60. Thanks for listening. As 2025 comes to an end, I thought I would record a solo episode and share my personal reflection of 2025. Now I don't know about you but 2025 has been a YEARRR! One with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows and in this episode I'm going to be reflecting back on the significant events that happened this year, what life lessons it taught me and some of the questions I used to reflect back this year in case you wanted to do a little 2025 reflection for yourself but don't know where to start.Spoiler alert: this episode gets “preeti” personal and honestly I was a little scared to release this but I also believe in the power of being vulnerable and sharing stories because maybe whatever I've learnt this year can help another person. Hey Clutterbugs! Decluttering, organizing, and mindset shifts are the real foundation of a tidy home—and I'm getting brutally honest about all three today. I'm sharing 46 life lessons that will help you get organized, stop feeling behind, and make decisions faster (without trying to become a whole new person). It's my birthday, I did the math (yes, I'm actually 46), and I'm celebrating by handing you the stuff I wish I knew sooner—about confidence, perfectionism, money, boundaries, happiness, and why everything you own is work. We talk about how “good enough” beats perfect, why you can't plan your way into progress, how tiny consistent steps matter more than big dramatic overhauls, and the truth nobody wants to hear: you probably won't miss most of what you declutter—but you will regret what clutter has cost you. #happybirthday #gettingolder #wisdom #organization #decluttering #lifelessons #finances #planning #selfhelp Website: http://www.clutterbug.me YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@clutterbug TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@clutterbug_me Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/clutterbug_me/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Clutterbug.Me/

In this episode of the Elevate Media Podcast, Chris Anderson welcomes Jay Setchell, a remarkable guest whose life journey embodies extreme resilience. Raised on a farm, a Marine Corps veteran, an entrepreneur, and a corporate leader, Jay has faced and overcome unimaginable challenges, including dying three times, a debilitating accident that left him paralyzed, and 73 surgeries. He discusses how these experiences shifted his entire perspective on life, purpose, and commitment, contrasting his generation's "suck it up" philosophy with the current societal push for "safe places." This is a raw and uncompromising conversation about finding strength within pain, adjusting your mindset, and why giving up is simply not an option. In this episode, you will learn:What fundamentally changes in a man's mind and purpose after multiple near-death experiences. The profound difference between "hope" and "true belief/faith" when pursuing goals. The concept of "The Set of the Sail" and how a slight adjustment in attitude can change your entire direction. Why Jay believes modern society is raising a "country of soft people" and what is owed to their parents. The mindset and commitment required for an entrepreneur to succeed, and why it's better to make less money doing what you love. How to harness anger, frustration, or even chronic pain to drive yourself forward and accomplish what you need to do.Jay's conviction that "it's always too soon to quit" and that a life of service and helping others is the ultimate purpose. “Send Coach John a message”Well, the final piece is here. “Be flexible.” Changing our habits is not easy, it's hard work. But having a little flexibility sure can help us make the changes that will work for us. Love this quote from the poet John Dryden - “We first make our habits, and then our habits make us.” If we are a bit more flexible, we can help ourselves find out what works for us. It's part of the journey of finding out how to connect a bit better with our new habits. I must admit for myself that anytime I can be a bit more flexible in life, things go a bit better compared to if I'm not flexible. It's good advice for many things in life. Thanks for listening. Send us a textWell, I wanted to keep sharing these tips with you and this one fits perfectly with a Monday mention - “Go easy on yourself”. Coach Wooden reminds us to offer ourselves some grace as we mess up. One thing for sure is that every single human has setbacks. The key is to not let the setbacks stop us. Thanks for listening. People used to work until they died and for the most part live in an extended family structure where some recognition was assured. Today's retired people face a true challenge in this life quest. We must create a means of being recognized.
