The O-CEI project, a groundbreaking Horizon Europe Innovation Action program, has officially launched to address one of today's most pressing challenges: sustainable and energy-efficient digital networks. The rapid growth of data-driven infrastructures has increased energy consumption, costs, and carbon emissions. This challenge is further amplified by the fragmented nature of cloud ecosystems, which struggle to efficiently manage resources across diverse edge devices such as e-vehicles, IoT-enabled sensors, and smart devices. O-CEI tackles this fragmentation head-on by fostering seamless collaboration between independent entities and enabling real-time data sharing to optimize energy usage and improve operational efficiency. An Open Platform for a Greener Tomorrow, O-CEI O-CEI aims to create an open CEI platform that emphasizes interoperability, security, and reliability. The platform seeks to build an ecosystem to accelerate innovation and adoption of CEI solutions, enable energy flexibility, establish CEI standards, and create viable and scalable business models. The platform will be developed based on information collected across six strategic verticals, addressing critical sectors such as electricity grids, electromobility, software-defined vehicles, agriculture, logistics, and urban environments. To this end, O-CEI will conduct eight large-scale pilots to showcase innovative applications, including optimizing renewable energy grids, promoting sustainable dairy production, enabling smart electric vehicle charging, and managing energy in maritime ports. Through 28 real-world scenarios, the project looks to demonstrate its flexibility and scalability, emphasizing its potential to transform diverse sectors and drive sustainable innovation. By advancing open standards and virtualization technologies, the project will enable collaboration and innovation across the six verticals. This cross-domain integration will empower industries to make faster, more precise energy predictions and implement adaptable solutions, significantly reducing energy consumption and environmental impact. The project allocated up to 4 million euros for two Open Calls which will start as of January 2026. A Vision for Strategic Autonomy and Sustainability O-CEI unites 58 partners from 20 countries, including leading industrial players, research organizations, academic institutions, SMEs, and non-profits. Together, these stakeholders will shape a resilient ecosystem and a competitive market for European businesses and key innovation stakeholders. The project coordinator, Prof. Carlos Enrique Palau Salvador, from The Polytechnic University of Valencia, underlined O-CEI's transformative potential: "O-CEI represents a bold step toward reimagining Europe's Cloud-Edge-IoT ecosystems. By harnessing the collective power of industries and innovators, we're crafting solutions that optimize energy efficiency for a more sustainable and resilient digital infrastructure. O-CEI isn't just about technology - it's about building a sustainable future for generations to come." Open tools are becoming the norm in the embedded software development space. And that's definitely the case for Analog Devices' CodeFusion Studio tool. The IDE lets developers start with an SoC, and design their systems from there. The software development platform is based on Microsoft's Visual Studio Code (VS Code). On this week's Embedded Executives podcast, with Kumar Gala and Maureen Helm, both Distinguished Engineers with Analog Devices' Software & Digital Platforms Group, we defined what “open” means in this space, then jumped into how and where a developer would get started.

Language agents show potential in being capable of utilizing natural language for varied and intricate tasks in diverse environments, particularly when built upon large language models (LLMs). Current language agent frameworks aim to facilitate the construction of proof-of-concept language agents while neglecting the non-expert user access to agents and paying little attention to application-level designs. We present OpenAgents, an open platform for using and hosting language agents in the wild of everyday life. Open Platform vs. Closed Platform Hello, this is Hall T. Martin with the Startup Funding Espresso -- your daily shot of startup funding and investing. Open platform vs. closed platform is a key concept in the startup ecosystem. It defines how the startup will interact with customers, partners, and others. A closed platform is one in which the startup restricts access in order to monetize its content. It's often called a “walled garden” which one must pay to enter. An open platform is one in which anyone can access the content. Open platforms often allow connectivity to other software tools to provide additional functionality. The user can access the site and create their own content from it. Open platforms work best when the customer needs to use the content within their own application. A closed platform offers the content as is and does not provide connectivity to outside applications. The benefit of a closed platform is a higher level of security and quality of content. Closed platforms work best for customers who need only the content as provided and don't need to integrate it with other content. Monetization in closed platforms occurs at the access points. Monetization in open platforms occurs elsewhere such as providing premium services. Consider both options for your startup. Thank you for joining us for the Startup Funding Espresso where we help startups and investors connect for funding.Let's go startup something today. _______________________________________________________ For more episodes from Investor Connect, please visit the site at: Check out our other podcasts here: For Investors check out: For Startups check out: For eGuides check out: For upcoming Events, check out For Feedback please contact info@tencapital.group Please , share, and leave a review. Industry veteran Eric Fullerton has spent much of his security career as an advocate for the open platform, highlighting best of breed solutions. Years ago, Eric and his staff coined the phrase of staying out of “proprietary jail.” In this interview, sponsored by OpenEye, Fullerton addresses the specific advantages of an open platform solution. He also talks how an end user can streamline operations and reduce cybersecurity risk in the cloud. Reducing the burden on IT will make it easier to manage and maintain video deployments and integrations of all sizes. Fullerton has been the executive director at OpenEye for the past four years, and now is transitioning to take on a larger role at his family's winery business. Sponsored by OpenEye.
Jack Kitterhing has been in the WordPress space for a while; you can say he deeply subscribes to the ethos that owning your own platform is one of the most important things a creator can do. That a SaaS, like Teachable, won't be there for you like an owned platform, like WordPress + LearnDash, will. We have a good discussion about the merits of both. Is it really easier to set up a course on Teachable? What are the benefits of your own platform? We'll get into all of that and more. Top Takeaways: Finding the right tool comes down to skill and comfort level. WordPress (and other open platforms) are cheaper. A SaaS will save you time. You also need to think about your users. What best serves their needs? Make a list of must have features and seek the best tool for that...but be a little forward thinking. Teachable, for example, doesn't do memberships well. If you never want memberships, that's great. If you do, Teachable might not be best.Spinning up your own WordPress site is a lot easier than it once was. The promise of Nexcess' StoreBuilder and WP QuickStart products are the easy of signing up for a SaaS with the flexibility of WordPress. This week's episode discusses sharing your salary information with your coworkers. Should this be a private matter or is it ethical to share it? Knowing can create opportunities to fair pay standards; however, it can create dissention when people feel they're underpaid for the same level of work. J., Sansone, S.-A., Rocca-Serra, P. Abstract: Background: The Investigation/Study/Assay (ISA) Metadata Framework is an established and widely used set of open-source community specifications and software tools for enabling discovery, exchange and publication of metadata from experiments in the life sciences. The original ISA software suite provided a set of user-facing Java tools for creating and manipulating the information structured in ISA-Tab - a now widely used tabular format. To make the ISA framework more accessible to machines and enable programmatic manipulation of experiment metadata, a JSON serialization ISA-JSON was developed. Results: In this work, we present the ISA API, a Python library for the creation, editing, parsing, and validating of ISA-Tab and ISA-JSON formats by using a common data model engineered as Python class objects. We describe the ISA API feature set, early adopters and its growing user community. Conclusions: The ISA API provides users with rich programmatic metadata handling functionality to support automation, a common interface and an interoperable medium between the two ISA formats, as well as with other life science data formats required for depositing data in public databases. The secondary market for mobile phones is enormous, and Flavio believes that putting that market on a blockchain-based open platform is the future. We discuss his thoughts on deploying a permissionless blockchain not only for his own company’s business, but to allow an entire ecosystem to develop that offers all manner of goods and services on a B2B, B2C, and C2C basis. If mobile phones – the most successful consumer electronics device in history – are any indication, the possibilities seem endless with platforms that leverage the right tech and have the right features.

Open, scalable and hardware agnostic, Mojio is the cloud platform of choice for the deployment of secure connected car apps and services. Mojio’s platform delivers a smarter, safer and more convenient driving and vehicle ownership experience to subscribers of major network operators, including Bell Canada, Deutsche Telekom, Rogers Communications, T-Mobile and TELUS. With real-world data gathered from more than 7 billion miles of driving, Mojio provides a big data analytics framework that uses machine learning to generate actionable insights and unlock new revenue streams for companies throughout the automotive value chain. However, I wanted to find out more about the story behind Mojio's success. Kenny Hawk is a Detroit native who grew up with roots in the automotive industry. He started his career working on the manufacturing floor at General Motors, but soon found himself leaving Detroit for new opportunities overseas and in Silicon Valley. Mojio is Kenny’s sixth outing as CEO, indulging his passion for using technology to solve real-world problems. His achievements include winning the GSMA Innovator of the Year Award; setting the world record for low power, smartphone GPS chipsets; and selling over $1 billion in mobile power accessories. I caught up with Kenny as he begins to prepare for CES in Vegas. I learn more about their mission and also where you can find them at the world's biggest consumer electronics show.

Today--Incorporating AI into applications is as easy as a single API call. Once imbued with AI, these transformed applications can improve over time as they learn from user interactions. How do we manage these new learning systems to ensure that they take advantage of all available information while maintaining accuracy and minimizing bias? This talk will discuss common problems encountered when designing and implementing AI systems and how DevOps practices can be used to address these issues. DevOps practitioners will learn the relevance of their skillset and practices to the rapidly evolving AI domain. The problem of properly managing AI applications and their underlying models is not trivial. “A lot of ICOs make it so you have to use their token to transact on their platform, but that creates these silos of utility…and you have to exchange tokens to go through these platforms. At Open, we're making it so you can use any cryptocurrency to purchase something, and that's powerful because you need to show people that every cryptocurrency is an asset you can purchase with,” says Chase Smith, who is the founder and lead architect at Open Platform. Open Platform is an ICO that differs from most in that it's “blockchain agnostic,” meaning it doesn't depend on any blockchain. Instead, it's using infrastructure that already exists to facilitate the mainstream adoption of blockchain payments. Smith explains that this will incentivize the mainstream public and mainstream developers to enter the blockchain and crypto space. To learn more, watch Smith's regularly posted webinars or engage in more technical discussions, check out Open Platform's telegram and discord channel.

Thomas Hazlett of George Mason University talks with EconTalk host Russ Roberts about the growing rivalry between Apple and Google. It is commonly argued that Apple with its closed platform and tight control from the top via Steve Jobs is making the same mistake it made in its earlier competition with Microsoft. Google on the other hand is lauded for its open platform and leveraging of a large number of suppliers for its Android phone, for example. Hazlett, drawing on his recent article in the Financial Times, argues that these arguments fail to recognize the different competitive advantages of Apple and Google and the implications of those advantages for the companies' respective strategies. The conversation concludes with a discussion of the move to application-based web browsing such as Facebook, Twitter, and the implications for Google.
