When I injured my ring finger, I expected months of pain before regaining its full function. As I practiced the prescribed exercises the finger next to it began to throb, so I consulted my doctor. “Sympathy pain,” he said. A branching between the nerves of the ring and pinky fingers causes dependence on one another. If one finger hurts, the other aches in sympathy. The apostle Paul uses the human body to illustrate the uniqueness and unity of God’s people. In 1 Corinthians 12:21–26, he reinforces how valuable each individual member is to the healthy functioning of the whole. Then he turns his attention to the unity achieved when we connect with each other. “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it” (v. 25). His description of the church’s interconnectedness is echoed in these verses, “mourn with those who mourn,” and “carry each other’s burdens” (Romans 12:15; Galatians 6:2). Today, as I extend my hand to greet someone or grab a spoon to prepare a meal for guests, I notice the strain in both my ring finger and my pinky. The various parts of our physical bodies work together to express pain and to strengthen each other toward health. I thank God that He reveals our need for connection to each other in His spiritual body, the church, through sympathy pain.

The Trump administration is turning up the heat now that the government has shut down, cancelling billions for green projects, targeting funding for infrastructure in New York and threatening mass firings of federal workers. Democrats, meanwhile, are trying to hold the line in the Senate with their demands about health care. Elsewhere, the White House is asking a group of top universities to join a compact supporting the president's political agenda so that they can get federal funds. MSNBC's Symone Sanders-Townsend joins Tim Miller to talk about the shut down fight and whether the president has overplayed his hand, how Democrats can eventually win seats back in the Senate and what the administration's pressure on academia is really all about. How do our words impact the most important relationship in our lives—our marriage? And how can wives, in particular, learn to speak life into their husbands?Ann Wilson, a pastor's wife, was taken aback during a speaking event when her husband, Dave, candidly shared that he didn't feel like she was his biggest supporter. The admission was painful, but it became a turning point. Determined to make a change, Ann began to pay closer attention to the words she spoke over her husband. As she intentionally used her words to encourage and uplift him, she began to notice a transformation in both their marriage and the way they showed up for each other. In their latest book, How to Speak Life to Your Husband: When All You Want to Do Is Yell at Him, Ann and Dave explore the transformative power of words in marriage and offer practical tools for building healthier communication patterns. In this candid conversation, Davey sits down with Ann and Dave to discuss the influence of what we say in relationships, the importance of mindset towards our spouse, and how to navigate challenging seasons in marriage—including struggles with betrayal and sexual addiction. If you've ever felt the sting of destructive words in your marriage, this episode offers hope and guidance on how to use your words to build up—not tear down—the most vital relationship in your life. Send us a text“Every problem introduces a person to himself.” – John McDonnellLet's be real — pain has a way of knocking the wind out of you when least expected. You didn't ask for it. You didn't see it coming. And yet, here you are… face to face with the version of yourself that only shows up when life gets real.In this solo episode, I'm not speaking from a place of perfection, but from a place of honesty. In life, pain doesn't announce itself - but when it shows up it forces you to pause, pivot, and press through. This isn't just about survival, this is about reclaiming your power. We don't erase the pain — we reframe it. We don't pretend it didn't hurt — we own it, and we decide to heal forward.Healing doesn't have a deadline. For most of my life, the name of Jesus was nothing more than a curse word to me. Faith wasn't something I wanted. In fact, I ran from it. I chased everything else success, relationships, performance, even destruction thinking it would fill me. But deep down, I was empty. This podcast is my honest journey of being humbled, broken, and finally led to Christ. It's about how He met me in the places I thought were too far gone, how He healed what I thought would always stay broken, and how faith went from being my last option to my only way forward. If you've ever questioned God, felt unworthy, or wondered if healing is really possible, my story is for you. I don't have it all figured out, but I know this the moment I let go of who I thought I had to be, Jesus gave me a new life. And I want to share that hope with you. In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Nancy Fox discuss:The importance of mindset shifts in professional growthStrategic approaches to networking and business developmentNavigating uncertainty and change in the legal industryThe role of consistency, agility, and technology in building relationships Key Takeaways:Lawyers often fail at networking because they choose events or groups without a strategy; instead, they should target where actual decision-makers gather, even if it requires greater investment.Relying solely on referrals is risky; building a balanced portfolio of referral sources and direct decision-maker relationships creates stability and growth.Practicing “daily consistent activity” in 15-minute chunks—such as emailing contacts or engaging on LinkedIn—can meaningfully grow a practice without overwhelming time demands.Shifting focus away from oneself and toward listening to others during networking conversations reduces fear, builds confidence, and creates deeper connections."Agility is not necessarily what lawyers are trained in, but being agile and being flexible is something that I think all of us really need to look at." — Nancy Fox Check out my new show, Be That Lawyer Coaches Corner, and get the strategies I use with my clients to win more business and love your career again. “Hedonism is the willingness to experience the orgasmic quality of the joy and fun of living. It is constant pleasure seeking – every moment of every day. It is the willingness to make your life a pleasure instead of a pain.” ~ Gary Douglas Do you seek pleasure in your life, or do you seek to avoid or get through the pain of it? In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty speaks with Dr. Evette Rose, internationally renowned trauma expert and best-selling author of Solving Pain Without Pills. The discussion challenges common assumptions about chronic pain, showing how unresolved emotions, learned pain responses, and suppressed anger can keep pain cycles active even after the original injury has healed. You'll hear practical ways to build safety in the nervous system, reframe anger, and reconnect with the body so real healing can begin. About the Guest : Dr. Evette Rose is a trauma expert, international speaker, and best-selling author of Solving Pain Without Pills and Metaphysical Anatomy. She helps people address the emotional and subconscious roots of physical symptoms and chronic pain by rebuilding safety, compassion, and healthy boundaries in the body. Key Takeaways: Pain can function as a stored memory of unresolved emotions, not only a sign of injury. Suppressed anger often sits behind chronic pain, especially where boundaries and safety were compromised. Pain becomes learned and reinforced by fear, posture, and context; breaking the loop requires new associations. Address core wounds of helplessness, powerlessness, injustice, lack of safety, and loss of control. The body releases pain more readily when it feels safe; regulate the nervous system before deep work. Meditation and standard therapy can manage symptoms, but resolution needs compassionate reconnection with the body. Changing your relationship with anger and fear reduces pain intensity and recurrence. Treat pain as communication, not malfunction; decode and address the message to regain freedom. POP-UP EPISODE!! Have you ever failed at something only to discover that failure was exactly what you needed to succeed beyond what you thought possible? After missing my qualifying time in my 50-mile race in April, I could have given up. Instead, I floated through summer while focusing on one specific weakness—running uphill—and found myself toeing the line at my first 100k ultramarathon. What happened over those 62 miles and 10 loops taught me lessons that go far beyond running, lessons about pain, presence, and the power of staying exactly where you are even when everything hurts. In this episode, you'll hear: The mindset shift that transforms pain from a permanent state to a temporary teacher Why "staying here" in the present moment is the secret to pushing through the hardest parts of any challenge How my "failure" at 50 miles became the exact preparation I needed for this success The practice of being in the flow—neither rigid nor chaotic—that carried me through 62 miles What happened when I asked my mom for the time and realized I was achieving something I never thought possible This isn't just a race recap—it's a story about how our biggest setbacks prepare us for our wildest successes, and how presence, not perfection, is what carries us across every finish line in life. Whether you're a runner, a yoga teacher, or anyone pursuing a meaningful goal, these lessons will change how you approach challenge, pain, and possibility. Every one of us faces pain, disappointment, and loss—but the cross reminds us that none of it is wasted in God's hands. In this episode, I unpack how Christ redeems our deepest wounds and uses them as instruments of transformation, maturity, and eternal purpose. From Gethsemane to Calvary, Jesus shows us that suffering is not the end of the story. Pain surrendered at the foot of the cross becomes the seed of resurrection life. If you've been asking where God is in the midst of your trials, this teaching will give you hope, perspective, and courage to endure.
