Episode 356 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features Henrik Haukeland, the Top Goalie at this year's IIHF World Championships.   In the feature interview presented by NHL Sense Arena, Haukeland shares stories and insights from him remarkable run backstopping Norway to it's first ever medal at the World Championships in Switzerland, including a 3-2 overtime win against a star-studded Canadian team in the final game. The 31-year-old was already the top goalie in Germany's top league, the DEL, in 2023 and has played in Sweden's top-level SHL and Finland's elite Liiga during an impressive pro career in Europe, and shares advice from his path in pro and insights into Norway's unique sporting structure and the evolving state of the game -- and goaltending -- in his native country. In the Parent Playbook, presented by Stop it Goaltending U the App, we talk about importance of goalie parents taking time for their own mental and physical health, possibly while loosening the leash on how closely you watch your young goalie, and how that can benefit both of you.  We also review this week's Pro Reads, presented by Vizual Edge, featuring freshly minted Stanley Cup champion Brandon Bussi with a greta breakdown on managing plays from behind the net.  And in our weekly gear segment, we head to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, or a look at the new True Catalyst Nitro pads and gloves and how it compares with other levels in that lineup.

The second child of Prince Louis of Battenberg (later, Louis Mountbatten, Marquess of Milford Haven) and Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine was Princess Louise, born July 14, 1889. While most royal were promptly shuttled into marriage, Louise was an independent, progressive young woman whose heart was set on marrying for love. There were suitors, to be sure, but Louise was insistent that she would never marry a king or a widower, and of course, that the union be based on love. This led her down some blind alleys, most notably with a Scottish portrait and landscape artist living in Paris, whom she met when they worked together at a military hospital during the First World War. Alexander Stuart-Hill was charming but eccentric, and was decidedly not rich. Fearing her family's reaction, Louise kept the pair's engagement secret for two years; by the time she revealed her secret, her parents asked that she delay marriage until the war had ended. After Alexander visited the Mountbattens a few times, earning the nickname 'Shakespeare' from his would-be in-laws, Louis Mountbatten had to sit his poor daughter down and explain to her that there were people called homosexuals, and he believed her fiance was one. It's unclear precisely how this resolved between Louise and Alexander, beyond the fact that the engagement ended in 1918. Princess Louise would find love at last, however, and in a most unexpected place. Sweden's Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf, recent widower of Louise's mother's cousin, visited London in 1923 and took a real shine to Louise, then into her 30s. Sure, he was a widower, and sure, he was destined to be King of Sweden, but at long last, Louise had fallen in love with someone who loved her back. Her new in-laws loved her, and she became the devoted step-mother of Gustav's children. As Princess and then Queen Consort, she was beloved by the people of Sweden for her rejection of royal airs, belief in gender equality and civil rights, humanitarian work during World War II, and democratic reforms to the monarchy. Martin Tyler joins Neil Barnett from Dallas as the FIFA World Cup gets properly underway, bringing a unique view from inside the tournament as football's biggest competition begins to take shape. From the atmosphere around Arlington and the arrival of supporters from across the globe, to life behind the scenes with the host broadcaster, Martin gives his first on-the-ground reflections from the USA. The pair introduce World Cup Wins and Woes, celebrating some of the early stories of the tournament while also tackling the controversies. There's discussion of Raúl Jiménez's emotional first World Cup goal for Mexico, South Africa's costly insistence on playing out from the back, the growing use of hydration breaks, the influence of set-piece coaches, and whether football is becoming too Americanised. In Martin Tyler's Letter From The Gantry, Martin reflects on major stories emerging away from the pitch, including Marc Cucurella's move back to Spain, Denzel Dumfries' rise, José Mourinho's return to Real Madrid, and the remarkable World Cup drama surrounding Japan captain Wataru Endo, who was surprisingly cut from the squad before the tournament began. He also shares some of the pronunciation challenges commentators face when working on a truly global event. Three of the Best returns with standout performers from the opening round of matches. Martin highlights Morocco's teenage midfield talent Isaac Belarouch, Neil makes the case for Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville, and there is praise for Graham Potter's Sweden, Flo Balogun's starring role for the USA, Virgil van Dijk's leadership, Ronald Koeman's legacy, and the brilliance of Achraf Hakimi, described as perhaps the best right-back in world football. Finally, One Trophy Wonders looks at international sides who have only lifted one major honour despite producing great players and memorable teams, including South Africa, Colombia, Portugal, the Netherlands and England. World Cup stories, football debate, commentary insight, and plenty of laughs from Dallas and London as the biggest tournament in sport begins. #worldcup #worldcup2026 #fifa #fifaworldcup #worldcupfinal  Hosted by The Revive Lounge Ltd UCsdye1hUxP4xhgBx9zvuSjg Subscribe to https://youtube.com/@TheReviveLounge?si=L5ddzrJrtSmErtJ5 Support the Pod https://patreon.com/TheJoysofFootballPodcast?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLink Read us on Substack https://martintylerandneilbarnett.substack.com/ Follow our Twitter https://x.com/TheJOF Follow our Tik Tok https://www.tiktok.com/@joy_of_football_pod?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc Follow our Instagram https://https://www.instagram.com/joy_of_football_pod/ Contact us via: therevivelounge@gmail.com Music by Arron Clague - https://www.instagram.com/arronclague?igsh=aHg1bjQ3OHpmaXIz Intro Sequence by Wellong Sadewo (wells.illustration): https://www.instagram.com/wells.illustration/ A massive thank you to our Patreon Supporters: Nick Parmenter Hillary Abbott Daniel Butigan Tommy Mck Katie Watson Nathan A Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode I talk with Dr. Carl-Magnus Carlstein, lecturer on Biblical Studies at Linkoping University, Sweden, about the contribution he contributed with co-author Rebekah Eklund in New Testament Ethics, out now on Eerdmans, which explores the ethics of possessions and wealth in the New Testament. We discuss the often-neglected topic of possessions, why many Christians are uncomfortable with this topic, and why it is so significant to the New Testament. Carl explains why Luke has a unique take on this subject, how Christians tend to emphasize either radical renunciation or charity as the models for thinking about the ethics of wealth, and how Jesus is more concerned with intentions, moral formation, and the heart. We then look at four passages in Luke's gospel which address the issue of wealth and possessions, show how in case after case Jesus is concerned with the disposition of those who possess wealth and how we must be transformed to use wealth properly. Finally, we discuss how the church can implement this vision today and cultivate healthy, God-honoring motivations towards what we possess.  Media Referenced:New Testament Ethics: https://a.co/d/02cjLNETDr. Carlstein: https://liu.se/en/employee/carca26Dr. Eklund: https://www.loyola.edu/academics/theology/faculty/directory/eklund-rebekah.htmlEpisode on Barclay, Wealth, and the New Testament: https://libertarianchristians.com/episode/ep-260-wealth-and-the-new-testament-a-response-to-john-barclay/  The Protestant Libertarian Podcast is a project of the Libertarian Christian Institute and a part of the Christians For Liberty Network. Cherry Servers – Building Decentralized Cloud Infrastructure

    The Crypto Conversation

Lili Hellriegel is head of enterprise solutions at Cherry Servers, a Lithuania-based bare metal cloud provider that pitches itself as a sovereign, Web3-friendly alternative to the US hyperscalers. Before joining Cherry, Lili was head of infrastructure at staking firm Blockdaemon, where she built out data center partnerships, network architecture and the server specs behind validation workloads — work that left her unusually fluent in what crypto teams actually need from their infrastructure. Why you should listen The pitch for European infrastructure has rarely been louder, and Lili makes the case with the confidence of someone who has lived on both sides of it. Every major hyperscaler — AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, even Oracle — is a US company, and for a growing cohort of Web3 teams that is no longer a neutral fact. Cherry Servers sits under European jurisdiction, runs its own facility in Lithuania, and operates data centers across Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Chicago, Singapore and a newly opened site in Tokyo. Some of Cherry's customers come for hard compliance reasons; others, Lili says, come for ideological ones, wanting the chains they help secure to live beyond the reach of any single government. The conversation lands at a moment when data sovereignty and distrust of concentrated American cloud power have moved from fringe concern to boardroom agenda. The sharper argument is about economics, and here Lili thinks the industry is approaching an inflection point. She describes a shift from "cloud-first" to "workload-first" thinking: instead of defaulting to a hyperscaler and accepting whatever T-shirt-sized instance you're sold, teams running archival nodes, validators or other niche workloads are discovering they pay more and perform worse than they would on dedicated hardware tuned to the job. Cherry's answer is granular customization — choose your disks, your storage, your RAM, and pay only for what the workload demands — backed by account managers who architect the build rather than just sell a box, with human support that answers in well under a minute. For staking-heavy customers, the model is almost self-funding: a large share pay in crypto, drawing on staking rewards to cover their infrastructure across some thirty different chains. Her forecast for the next eighteen to twenty-four months is the part worth sitting with. Lili argues the era of free cloud credits is ending — she doubts AWS will keep handing startups six-figure credit grants for signing up to an accelerator — and that founders, newly disciplined about runway, will increasingly treat optimized bare metal as a way to extend it. In the closing hot-take round she plants her flag as a multi-chain "Solana maxi," names Bitcoin as the enduring store of value while backing the smaller chains' upside, and offers a builder's creed: the market ultimately rewards people who make useful things on-chain, not those treating tokens purely as speculation — which, she adds, is also why she thinks people should run nodes with smaller providers. The desert-island sci-fi pick, naturally, is Star Wars. https://www.cherryservers.com/

Aisha also opens up about burnout, losing her love for dance, finding it again through teaching, and the realities of navigating a constantly changing industry. From unforgettable stories on stage to practical insights on artistry, professionalism, and longevity, this episode offers a candid look at what it takes to grow not only as a dancer, but as a performer and person. Christian Polanco and Alexis Guerreros break down their biggest takeaways from an action-packed World Cup weekend, presented by Smirnoff Ice. Alexis explains why Mauricio Pochettino proved friendlies are meant for experimentation, why Scotland deserves to be taken seriously beyond their traveling support, and why Gio Reyna may have played his way into a major club transfer after the tournament. Christian highlights the atmosphere created by Zohran ticket winners at Brazil vs. Morocco, the technology that correctly overturned an offside call for Sweden, and why Tim Ream continues to prove he belongs in the USMNT lineup—and perhaps even deserves the captain's armband. Next, the guys react to Tunisia's shocking decision to fire their head coach after a crushing 5-1 defeat to Sweden. Is Sweden's dominant start a sign that they're a genuine contender in this tournament? Christian and Alexis discuss what Tunisia's decision says about the pressure facing managers at the World Cup and whether Sweden may be flying under the radar. To wrap up the show, The Cooligans turn their attention to Norway and debate whether Erling Haaland can be the player who finally delivers World Cup success for his country. The guys also preview the upcoming slate of matches, including Belgium vs. Egypt, Saudi Arabia vs. Uruguay and Iran vs. New Zealand, before reacting to one of the most wholesome stories of the tournament: Dutch and Japanese supporters coming together to create unforgettable World Cup scenes.   Timestamps: (2:00) — World Cup opening weekend takeaways (15:15) - Tunisia sack head coach after 5-1 loss (21:45) - Erling Haaland the man to bring World Cup glory to Norway? Further reading: https://elephantartgallery.com/blogs/meet Desmond Morris with his favorite Congo painting: Peter/Pierre Brassau and some of his paintings: The so-called donkey painting, and I described it wrong in the episode: Pockets at work: Show transcript: Welcome to Strange Animals Podcast. I'm your host, Kate Shaw. Back in the early days of the podcast I did an episode about animal musicians, which for a long time was my favorite episode. Today let's visit a similar topic, animals who are visual artists. Back in the 1950s through the 60s, researchers studying how humans make art studied monkeys and apes who were taught how to use a brush and paints. The studies caught the public's fancy and it became something of a fad to own a piece of art created by an animal—whether it was a monkey or ape, an elephant, or some other animal. One of the earliest big name animal artists was a chimpanzee named Congo. Zoologist Desmond Morris, who was studying creativity in apes and humans, and who was also an artist himself, offered Congo a pencil and paper when he was two years old in 1956. Congo enjoyed drawing and especially liked to draw circles. When Morris eventually gave the chimp paints, Congo was even more enthusiastic. But while he was considered a novelty, he only had one art exhibition while he was alive, a 1957 event arranged by Morris. It wasn't until 2005 that the remaining paintings were exhibited, along with the art of some other apes, and some of them sold for thousands of dollars. A new exhibit appeared in December of 2019 in the Mayor Gallery in London. One interesting thing is that Morris worked with several apes to see how they drew and painted, but only Congo showed enthusiasm and skill for art. Congo died of tuberculosis in 1964 when he was only ten years old. Also in 1964, a French avant-garde artist named Pierre Brassau exhibited four of his paintings at an art show in Sweden. No one knew who Brassau was, but his paintings were critically acclaimed—except for one critic who wrote, “Only an ape could have done this.” Ahem, yes. That is correct. The artist turned out to be a West African chimpanzee named Peter who lived in a zoo in Sweden. The whole thing started with a Swedish journalist who apparently wasn't much of a fan of modern art. The journalist persuaded a zookeeper to give Peter a canvas, paints, and brush. At first Peter just ate the paint, but eventually he started making marks on the canvas. The journalist ultimately chose four of the paintings and submitted them to the exhibition under the name Pierre Brassau. One of the paintings sold for the equivalent of about $750 today. But animal artists making modern art isn't limited to the 1950s and 60s. In 1905 a painting by an unknown artist, J.R. Boronali, went on display in a Parisian salon. It didn't cause any kind of stir, though, because it was nothing special, until 1910 when word got out that the painting had been made by a donkey. According to the story, an art critic tied a paintbrush to the donkey's tail and fed the donkey carrots, which made it wag its tail, which dabbed paint on a canvas. I've seen the painting, though, and it seems clear that a human artist prepped the canvas by slapping a coat of background paint on it that resembles a red sea and blue sky. There are some dabs and blobs of paint over that in yellow and red, presumably from the donkey. In this case, of course, the donkey wasn't trying to paint a picture and didn't even know what was going on behind it, just that it was getting lots of carrots. An avant-garde Russian school of art named itself The Donkey's Tail in 1912 as a result, though, so that's pretty neat. More recently, a capuchin monkey named Pockets has become a big-name artist in the animal world. Pockets was donated to a Canadian animal sanctuary after his owner finally realized that capuchin monkeys are wild animals and don't actually make very good pets. One of the volunteers at the sanctuary gave Pockets the nickname Warhol because of his white hair, which reminded her of the artist Andy Warhol. That gave her the idea to give Pockets some paints and see what he would do with them. It turns out that Pockets really likes to paint. In 2011 the sanctuary held an exhibit of his paintings to help raise money, and since then his paintings have been exhibited in art shows around the world. He's collaborated with a human artist, who basically paints something and then gives the canvas to Pockets to add to it. His art recently appeared on the cover of an album released by a member of Depeche Mode too. Not all animal artists are apes or monkeys, though. Bini the Bunny stars in a lot of videos where he plays basketball, dances, plays the guitar, and does a lot of other things you would not expect a bunny to do. He also paints. Bini, of course, has been trained to make certain movements, including picking up a paintbrush in his mouth and moving it upward with the paint-covered bristles sometimes touching a canvas, but sometimes not. Bini isn't choosing what paint colors to use and doesn't even really look at the canvas while he's working. He's cute, but he's not making art spontaneously the way Pockets and his predecessors do. Elephants also make art, holding a paintbrush with the tip of the trunk. The most famous elephant artist was named Ruby, an Asian elephant who lived at the Phoenix Zoo in Arizona in the United States, although she was born in Thailand in 1973. When her keepers saw her using a stick to draw in the dirt, they gave her painting supplies to see what she would do with them. Ruby enjoyed painting, choosing her colors carefully, and some of her paintings sold for as much as $25,000. Ruby died from complications of a failed pregnancy in 1998, sadly. So many artists die young. Sometimes you'll see videos of elephants painting a picture of an elephant, but these aren't spontaneously created. The elephant has always been taught to make the same brush strokes, and sometimes the training is cruel. An authentic elephant painting looks abstract, with lines and dots that the elephant places in a shape it finds pleasing, not to resemble something specific. This is the same with ape and monkey artists too. If you listened to the episode about animal musicians, you will probably remember the Thai Elephant Orchestra. Well, the same conservation center that hosts the elephant orchestra also has some elephant artists. The Elephant Art Gallery sells paintings made by various of the elephants who live in the sanctuary. They're allowed to choose their own paints and decide if they want to paint at all that day. Elephants who don't show interest in learning to paint don't have to try, and instead get to do different activities. The main difference between human art and art made by non-human animals is that humans naturally create representational art without being taught. Little kids draw wobbly stick people with big smiles and no one has to show them how. Humans can make abstract art, of course, but a skilled abstract artist chooses colors, textures, and patterns carefully to invoke a feeling in the people who look at the finished painting. This is different from a little kid finger-painting who is just having fun making a mess, although of course you can make art with finger paints too. Animals never create representational art spontaneously, and we can't know if their choice of colors, textures, and patterns is intended to invoke a particular feeling because we can't ask them. (I mean, we can ask them but they wouldn't understand the question and we wouldn't get an answer.) But it does seem obvious that animals who enjoy painting and who make deliberate marks on paper or canvas are taking pleasure from the process of creation. And when you come right down to it, that's the most important thing about making art. Finally, you may remember the court case about the monkey selfie from 2014. Nature photographer David Slater was taking pictures in a nature reserve in Indonesia when he stepped away from his camera, which was set up on a tripod. A Celebes crested macaque monkey investigated the camera and ended up taking a number of photos, one of which was a selfie that became almost instantly famous online. Slater tried to claim copyright to get paid for the photograph as it became more and more popular. In August of 2014 the United States Copyright Office decided that the owner of camera equipment can't claim copyright for a photo taken by an animal. Neither can the owner of an animal who takes a photograph or otherwise produces artwork. Only a human can hold copyright, but if the human doesn't actually create the art, they don't get the copyright. Hey, this would be a great day to make a drawing or a painting! Thanks for your support, and thanks for listening!

Tunisia suffered one of the heaviest defeats of the opening round, losing 5-1 to Sweden in Monterrey, in a damaging start to their World Cup campaign. Yasin Ayari was the story of the night. The Brighton midfielder, born in Sweden to a Tunisian father and Moroccan mother, scored twice. He chose Sweden after Tunisia had tried to convince him to switch allegiance. Ayari did not celebrate his first goal, but celebrated the second. Sweden were emphatic and Tunisia, who did not concede a single goal in qualification, now face a must-win match against Japan. The Samurai Blue themselves took a point from the Netherlands, in what many are calling the best game of the tournament so far. The teams drew 2-2 in Dallas after Daichi Kamada equalised in the 89th minute. Germany made the biggest statement of the opening round, beating Curacao 7-1, while Ivory Coast's Amad Diallo scored in the 90th minute to see off Ecuador. Off the pitch, Iran's arrival in Los Angeles has dominated the conversation. Eleven members of the Iranian party, including the team manager, were denied entry to the US, on the same day President Trump announced a peace deal with Iran and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Captain Mehdi Taremi said the tension had undermined Fifa's message of football bringing people together. For the Arab world, tonight is when the tournament truly begins. Egypt face Belgium at 11pm UAE time, with Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush offering genuine threat on the counter. Saudi Arabia face Uruguay at 2am, with local media evoking the spirit of that famous win over Argentina in Qatar. Meanwhile Qatar have already earned a point, drawing 1-1 with Switzerland, and Morocco were arguably the better side in their 1-1 draw with Brazil, with 18-year-old Ayyoub Bouaddi impressing in midfield. Spain also begin their campaign tonight against debutants Cape Verde at 8pm UAE time. Mina Rzouki presents Trending Middle East's World Cup round-up, a daily bonus series from The National for the duration of the tournament.
