The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (09/25/2023): 3:05pm- A new Washington Post/ABC News survey indicates that presumptive Republican nominee for president Donald Trump has a 9-point lead over President Joe Biden—51% to 42%. Interestingly, Trump holds a 20-point lead over Biden with voters under the age of 35 in the hypothetical rematch. 3:25pm- Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Robert Menendez (D-NJ) has been charged with accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes in exchange for providing Egypt with “sensitive U.S. government information.” During a Friday press conference announcing a three-count indictment, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams explained that federal prosecutors found $500,000 in cash, as well as gold bars, in Sen. Menendez' home—some of which contained fingerprints or DNA of Fred Daibes, a real estate developer also accused of bribing Menendez and his wife Nadine. According to The New York Times, Daibes pled guilty to financial crimes in 2022. Senator Menendez and his wife have both denied the criminal conduct alleged by prosecutors. You can read more about the story here: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/22/nyregion/robert-menendez-indicted.html 3:30pm- On Monday, Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) held a press conference to address charges of corruption. Menendez insisted he was innocent and explained that he held nearly half-a-million in cash at his home for “emergencies.” 3:35pm- In an article for NJ.com, Tom Moran writes: “Look past the bars of gold, the envelopes stuffed with cash, and the shiny new Mercedes parked in the garage of Sen. Robert Menendez. Bad as that stench is, it's far from the worst of it. For that, you need to cast an eye to the torture chambers run by Egypt's military dictatorship, where security goons rape women to pressure their husbands in the next cell, where they clamp metal grips to men's genitals and shock them into submission, where they hang teens by their arms, tied behind their back, and leave them until their shoulders dislocate. That's the dictatorship that Menendez has been helping since 2018, according to the federal indictment dropped Friday.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nj.com/opinion/2023/09/gold-bars-for-menendez-torture-for-jailed-egyptians-moran.html 3:45pm- Congressman Andy Kim (D-NJ)—who represents New Jersey's 3rd District—has announced that he will challenge Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) in New Jersey's Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. You can read more here: https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/23/politics/menendez-andy-kim-senate/index.html 4:05pm- On Monday, Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. held a press conference at the southern border to address the flood of migrants unlawfully entering the United States. Kennedy stated: “As President, I will make the border impenetrable to illegal migrants, but we can't afford to wait a year and a half for that to happen. That is why I am calling on Democratic and Republican leaders to unify on this issue. I'm asking Democrats in particular to reexamine their assumption that a loose border is somehow more compassionate. It is not. It has created a humanitarian crisis for the migrants that is now destroying our cities, crushing our social services, and harming the working poor by undercutting their wages.” You can learn more about the event here: https://www.kennedy24.com/kennedy_slams_biden_border_policy 4:15pm- New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) announced that the National Guard will be deployed to help her state deal with the surge in undocumented migrants. 4:20pm- On Sunday, 60 Minutes documented that the United States is financing more than just defense weapons in Ukraine—an enormous amount of tax-payer money is also being used for farming, 57,000 first responder salaries, and the subsidization of Ukrainian small businesses. 4:25pm- On Meet the Press, political analyst Steve Kornacki said there is “nothing but good news” for Donald Trump when reviewing the latest polling numbers. 4:35pm- While appearing on Face the Nation, host Margaret Brennan asked Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez why she bought an electric vehicle that was not “union-made”? Ocasio Cortez nonsensically explained that she bought her vehicle before the COVID-19 pandemic. 4:40pm- Reporter Jon Levine attempted to dine at some of New York's finest restaurant's while wearing shorts and a sweatshirt—dressed similarly to Senator John Fetterman (D-PA). Unsurprisingly, the restaurants did not allow Levine into the dining room, explaining that he was in violation of the dress code. Last week, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) stopped enforcement of the Senate's dress code—many believe the decision was made to appease Fetterman. 5:00pm- Jacob Sullem of Reason writes, “Last year in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned that state's restrictions on public possession of handguns for self-defense. A week later, the Court vacated four appeals court decisions upholding state gun control laws and remanded the cases for further consideration in light of Bruen. One of those cases, Duncan v. Bonta, involved California's ban on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, which a federal judge deemed unconstitutional in a decision published on Friday.” You can read Sullem's full article here: https://reason.com/2023/09/24/californias-10-round-magazine-limit-is-unconstitutional-a-federal-judge-rules-again/ 5:20pm- Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) vetoed California Bill AB957 which would have required state judges to guarantee parents are open to “gender affirmation” care for their children when deciding custody battles. The Rich Show- Hour 1: 3:05pm- On Monday, CBS Mornings began their broadcast reflecting on a recent CBS News poll which showed 34% of respondents believed President Joe Biden would be unlikely to finish a second presidential term, if elected. The poll, which consisted of likely voters, showed Biden losing to Donald Trump in a hypothetical matchup—50% to 49%. 3:15pm- The U.S. military has established a hotline to help recover a missing Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II valued at $90 million. The stealth jet went missing after a pilot was forced to eject over North Carolina. 3:30pm- J.D. Well, when talking heads say, ‘no evidence,' they mean ‘no smoking-gun proof.' And they're right; the current case against the president probably wouldn't prevail in court. But there really is evidence of corruption and sleaze around Joe Biden, even if, so far, it doesn't rise to courtroom standards.” You can read the full article here: https://reason.com/2023/09/18/theres-plenty-of-evidence-of-corruption-around-biden/ 3:45pm- While speaking with Kristen Welker on MSNBC's Meet the Press, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump argued that Europe needs to make greater contributions to the war in Ukraine. Referring to Joe Biden, he explained: “they're taking advantage of a dumb president.” 4:05pm- Talk Radio Program Director, and Rich's former boss, Jared Hart joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss NM Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham's (D) executive order which was designed to temporarily suspend the right to carry firearms in the state—citing a gun violence epidemic and, subsequent, public health emergency. A federal judge temporarily halted the order. Many members of her own political party have called the measure unconstitutional. Due to the bipartisan backlash, Lujan Grisham recently changed the order, limiting its reach to state parks and playgrounds. 4:25pm- While appearing on Fox News with Maria Bartiromo, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said he believes Hunter Biden will ultimately be subpoenaed. 4:30pm- While appearing on MSNBC, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said she was “pleased” with the Biden Administration's economy. However, a recent CNN poll indicates that 75% of Americans believe the administration's policies have worsened economic conditions or made no difference. 4:40pm- In a recent Wall Street Journal editorial, Allysia Finley writes— “If DayQuil never seemed to unstuff your nose, now you know why: Its core decongesting ingredient, phenylephrine, doesn't work. That's what a Food and Drug Administration advisory committee unanimously concluded last week, 16 years after researchers first told the agency that evidence from the 1960s and '70s purportedly demonstrating the ingredient's efficacy was flawed. For decades, people have been taking what amounts to a placebo. But unlike a sugar pill, phenylephrine can cause lightheadedness, queasiness, headaches and a rapid heartbeat. What took the FDA so long to act?” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/dayquil-covid-vaccine-boosters-and-fda-science-medicine-study-pill-placebo-sick-bb9e457b?mod=opinion_lead_pos6 4:50pm- According to reports, Dave McCormick is expected to announce he is running for U.S. Senate in 2024. Episode Summary: In Episode 126 of the Aerospace Advantage, F-35 Update: Test Flight Perspective, John Baum discusses what happens when an F-35 rolls off the production line and executes its first flights with Lockheed Martin F-35 test pilot Tony “Brick” Wilson and J.R. McDonald, Vice President for F-35 Business Development. Back in December, the Mitchell Institute met with the key folks who are building America's newest fighter, the F-35. We learned about how one factory in Texas is revolutionizing what it means to produce cutting-edge 5th generation combat aircraft at a build rate we haven't seen since the Cold War. Given the threats facing our nation and the imperative to refresh the Air Force fighter inventory, we need to get these planes on the flightline fast. So do the Marine Corps, Navy, and our allies. Today, we're going to circle back on this topic to talk about the other half of the equation: what happens to the jets when they first take to the sky, and what do we need to consider when it comes to flight operations? With the emergence of the Soviet Flanker and Fulcrum, the United States Air Force realized there was a need for a new Advanced Tactical Fighter. That new ATF was the F-22 Raptor, a stealth tactical fighter developed by Lockheed Martin and friends. We look into the engineering innovation that was needed to design the F-22, from new composite materials to crazy stealth technology that makes the F-22 appear to be the size of a bumble bee on radar. How is this even possible?! You'll have to listen to find out!! Or Google it... but mostly just listen.

Trinity Church is hosting a Men’s Conference, Friday night and Saturday morning, 2/24-2/25. The title is Taking Dominion. God has given mankind the commission to take dominion over His creation for the purpose of making it more fruitful, beneficial, and enjoyable, and all to the glory of God. Men are the tip of the spear as we lead our households in the pursuit of this dominion. Pastor Dave Hatcher, Pastor Jerry Owen, and Andrew Crappuchettes (CEO RedBalloon) will be speaking about fulfilling this mandate in our selves, our houses, and the other opportunities God gives us. Visit www.trinitykirk.org/2023-mens-conference https://www.foxnews.com/us/train-derails-outside-detroit-michigan-one-car-hazardous-materials Train derails outside Detroit, Michigan, with one car carrying hazardous materials A train containing one car of hazardous materials has derailed Thursday in Van Buren Township outside Detroit, Michigan, reports say. The cause of the derailment was not immediately clear. Police told Fox2 Detroit that there were no injuries and the area is not a hazmat situation. Officials that spoke to WXYZ, which reported that at least six cars were seen off the track, said one of them was carrying hazardous materials. The derailment comes less than two weeks after a train carrying toxic chemicals derailed in East Palestine, Ohio. Police told Fox2 Detroit that roads will be closed in the area while an investigation is ongoing. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy also said it is "aware of the train derailment in Van Buren Township, Wayne County, where initial reports indicate no threat to the public from the derailment. "EGLE personnel are on their way to the scene to assist in assessing the situation," it added. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-admin-turns-down-ohios-request-disaster-assistance-toxic-derailment Biden admin turns down Ohio's request for disaster assistance after toxic derailment The Biden administration turned down a request for federal disaster assistance from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine in the aftermath of the train derailment in the state earlier this month that led to a large release of toxic chemicals. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) told Ohio's state government that it was not eligible for disaster assistance to help the community recover from the toxic spill, Dan Tierney, a spokesperson for DeWine, told Fox News Digital on Thursday. Tierney explained that FEMA believed the incident didn't qualify as a traditional disaster, such as a tornado or hurricane, for which it usually provides assistance. "The DeWine Administration has been in daily contact with FEMA to discuss the need for federal support, however FEMA continues to tell Governor DeWine that Ohio is not eligible for assistance at this time," DeWine's office said in a statement earlier in the day. "Governor DeWine will continue working with FEMA to determine what assistance can be provided." FEMA said that its team is in constant communication with DeWine's office, but didn't comment on the request for federal relief. Tierney noted, though, that the governor was able to secure some health assistance from the Department of Health and Human Services that will go towards helping local residents with any medical care costs that stem from the incident. Norfolk Southern has offered financial compensation to locals who were displaced and has worked with the Environmental Protection Agency and state officials to conduct air safety tests. Health officials have assured the public that tests have shown the area is safe. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/bruce-willis-diagnosed-frontotemporal-dementia-demi-moore-says_n_63ee887ae4b0808b91c5a71e Bruce Willis Diagnosed With Frontotemporal Dementia, Family Says Actor Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, his family said in a statement Thursday. The 67-year-old “Die Hard” star was diagnosed with the disease, also known as FTD, after his prior diagnosis of aphasia progressed, his family said. The disease’s progression varies from two to more than 20 years and the average life expectancy after the start of symptoms is seven to 13 years. There is no cure or treatment currently available, according to the AFTD’s website. Willis’ family said that by sharing his story they hope they can bring more awareness to the disease and push for research toward finding treatments. Willis retired from acting in 2022 after his aphasia diagnosis. Aphasia typically occurs suddenly after a stroke, head injury or sometimes a slow-growing tumor. It can affect a person’s ability to speak, write and understand language, both verbal and written, according to the Mayo Clinic. The actor’s former co-workers told the Los Angeles Times last year that he had been struggling for years on set. The club—the Northern Illinois Bottlecap Balloon Brigade (NIBBB)—is not pointing fingers yet. But the circumstantial evidence is at least intriguing. The club’s silver-coated, party-style, “pico balloon” reported its last position on Feb. 10 at 38,910 ft. off the west coast of Alaska, and a popular forecasting tool—the HYSPLIT model provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)—projected the cylindrically shaped object would be floating high over the central part of the Yukon Territory on Feb. 11. That is the same day a Lockheed Martin F-22 shot down an unidentified object of a similar description and altitude in the same general area. There are suspicions among other prominent members of the small, pico-ballooning enthusiasts’ community, which combines ham radio and high-altitude ballooning into a single, relatively affordable hobby. https://www.theblaze.com/news/eu-2035-gas-car-ban European Union approves effective ban on sales of gas cars by 2035, requiring 100% reduction in CO2 European Parliament has formally approved a law that will effectively end the sale of gas- and diesel-powered vehicles in the European Union by 2035, calling for a 100% reduction in CO2 emissions for any new cars sold, according to Reuters. The 27-nation union agreed to the changes in October 2022, but has now formalized the deal, which enforces a 55% reduction in emissions for vehicles by 2030. Levels for CO2 for 2021 were set at a target of 37.5%. Vans will get a slight advantage in the market, requiring a a 50% cut by 2030, compared with 2021 levels. Just a few months before the announcement in May 2022, car makers such as Ford and Volvo even signed a joint letter with 26 other companies asking the European Union to implement such a plan. The target of 2035 has been justified by the EU based on what officials say is an average vehicle lifespan of 15 years, which would allow the EU to reach net zero emissions by 2050. Companies that make less than 10,000 cars per year will be able to negotiate lower targets until 2036, however some companies are happily ready to enforce the change. Volkswagen vowed in October 2022 to produce only electric cars in Europe beginning in 2033, committing to the earliest possible time frame after previously stating it would aim for a 2033-2035 range. However, in June 2022, five countries were looking to delay the shift to electric-only vehicles by at least five years to 2040. Bulgaria, Italy, Portugal, Romania, and Slovakia called for a 90% cut of CO2 by 2035, extending the 100% target to 2040, with light commercial vehicles meeting 80% for 2035 before also needing the full cut by 2040. A Bulgarian official had said that the EU needed to reconsider the economic costs of switching to electric and the effect that would have on poorer nations in the union. Laws enforcing electric vehicle chargers are currently in negotiation in the union. https://dailycaller.com/2023/02/15/china-ccp-christian-chinaaid-jonathan-dingler-pastor-bob-fu-xi-jinping/ Communist China Cracked Down On Christians In 2022 The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) censored, fined, politically indoctrinated and forcibly disappeared Chinese Christians in 2022, according to a new report from the nonprofit ChinaAid Tuesday. The People’s Republic of China (PRC) reportedly employed a range of new methods to persecute Chinese Christians in 2022 including fabricating charges of fraud as well as criminalizing the legal international travel of church leaders, the report states. China’s crackdown on Christianity reportedly intensified in the run-up to the CCP’s 20th Party Congress in October 2022, during which time General Secretary Xi Jinping secured a third term as the communist nation’s supreme leader, according to ChinaAid. “Xi Jinping and the Communist Party did all they could to silence Christians leading up to the 20th National Congress,” Jonathan Dingler, a spokesman for ChinaAid who worked on the report, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. Christians account for approximately 5% of China’s religious community, according to the CIA World Factbook. While Catholics number around 10 million, Protestants account for the majority of China’s Christian community, with approximately 38 million followers as of 2020, The Economist reported. Dingler told the DCNF that after the CCP’s crackdown leading up to the 20th Party Congress “the tone shifted” within the state-sanctioned churches which then began treating Xi “as if he were the leader of the church.” ChinaAid identified a March 2022 paper entitled “Adhering to the Sinicization of Religion in China” published by the United Front Work Department (UFWD) as the political motivation behind the CCP’s 2022 crackdown on Christianity. The UFWD is a “Chinese government entity charged with extending the CCP’s influence and control over non-Party organizations both domestically and abroad to advance CCP policy objectives,” according to a 2021 report by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC). Moreover, the USCC also identified the UFWD as a “Chinese intelligence service” in 2016. The UFWD’s March 2022 paper reportedly emphasized “promoting the Sinicization of religion, adhering to the orientation of the core socialist values and submerging all religious beliefs in Chinese culture to better adapt religion to China’s socialist society and the New Era of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics,” according to ChinaAid. China’s state-sanctioned churches must now actively promote Xi’s thoughts “from the pulpit,” which in practice means that churches which don’t “flat-out fall at Xi’s feet and worship him are considered ‘inciting subversion of state power,'” Dingler told the DCNF. Churches were reportedly even converted into political propaganda centers in order to broadcast Xi’s speech during the 20th Party Congress in October 2022, according to ChinaAid’s report. Likewise, churches in other provinces were also reportedly repurposed to hold “study” sessions on CCP policies such as “Reinforcing Management of Religion on All Fronts: 10 Prohibitions and 10 Mustn’ts.” The Chinese government also increasingly persecuted Christians online in 2022, censoring words like “Jesus,” “Savior” and “Amen” on the Chinese social media platform WeChat, according to ChinaAid’s report. At the same time, the Chinese government also shut down church websites and Christians’ social media accounts. “Congregants can’t even give to their churches online anymore, thanks to new regulations,” Dingler said. “They want to break down house churches even further, hoping they will finally give in and submit.” The Chinese Embassy did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

After a singer from Kazakhstan, two magicians, a giant children's choir, a spoken-word artist, a man who did tricks with dogs and more, LSU freshman basketball standout Flau'jae  Johnson took the stage Monday night on NBC's “America's Got Talent: All-Stars.” All were competing for one spot to move on to the competition finals. At 14, Johnson was originally on season 13 of “AGT,” in which she dedicated her performance to her father, a rapper named Camouflage who was murdered when her mother was pregnant with her. As she approached the stage, one of the judges turned to Johnson's mother, Kia Brooks, and said, “Are you nervous, Mom?” Brooks said that she wasn't nervous at all because she “created a beast.” Johnson performed her rap song confidently, the lyrics including a basketball reference to “making three” and her outlook on the promise of the future, “Ready or not, here I come.” Judge Howie Mandel told her that she was a beast to be reckoned with and that she was talented. Judge Heidi Klum also was a fan, as was Simon Cowell. However, Kodi Lee, a visually impaired singer-songwriter and pianist, won the episode. You can catch Johnson on TV tonight, in a different role. Her number four ranked LSU Tigers will be hosting Ole Miss at 9:00 PM on SEC Network. At a December hearing, the commission tabled the request from Hillels of Georgia for a special land use permit to use a rented house on Frey Lake Road for a Jewish student center serving KSU students. Hillels of Georgia has rented the home since the start of the 2022 school year. Ten residents in the area were at Tuesday's meeting in opposition to the request. Phil Anzalone, a representative from the Pinetree Civic Association who spoke against the request in December, reiterated that his and other residents' opposition was not faith-based. Neighbors' concerns about the location included lack of available parking along Frey Road and noise that might come from the deck of the home during events. Commissioner Deborah Dance made the motion to recommend denying the request “based upon the opposition and based upon articulated burdens and impacts of this proposal upon a residential neighborhood.” Since the Planning Commission's decision is a recommendation for denial, the decision is not final. The Cobb Board of Commissioners will hear the case at its meeting on Tuesday, February 21 at 9 a.m. at 100 Cherokee St. Cobb Sheriff Craig Owens announced Monday that a deputy recruit has been fired and arrested following an altercation with a Cobb jail inmate over the weekend. Owens said during a press conference that Jacqun Brown of Austell, a recruit with the sheriff's office, was arrested at 3:15 p.m. Monday for his alleged role in the altercation. The altercation occurred on Saturday, as the 24-year-old Brown was attempting to move inmate Matthew Cubbage of Smyrna inside Lima Pod, Dorm 3, to deescalate a situation in which Cubbage had caused a disturbance, Owens said. According to a warrant for Brown's arrest, he repeatedly punched and placed Cubbage in a choke hold. Cubbage was being held at the jail for allegedly trafficking heroin, fentanyl and meth. Cubbage received cuts, bruises and scratches on his head, shoulders and lower back area, according to Brown's arrest warrant. The entire incident was captured on video inside the dormitory. More than a decade after the final Marietta-made Lockheed Martin F-22 rolled off the assembly lines, the F-22 program notched its first air-to-air “kill” this weekend as it shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon over the South Carolina coast. The balloon, which was spotted earlier in the week over Montana and Idaho, traversed across the U.S. last week before being hit with a missile off the South Carolina coast Saturday. A Lockheed spokesperson confirmed the fighter, stationed at Langley Air Force Base, was one of nearly 200 F-22's built at the sprawling Marietta plant. The F-22 pilot used a single AIM-9X Sidewinder air-to-air missile to bring down the balloon, the Department of Defense said. As of Monday, the United States had begun to recover parts of the balloon from the Atlantic Ocean. Chinese officials have taken responsibility for the balloon, but claimed it was a weather-monitoring device, an argument rejected by U.S. military officials. China has criticized the U.S. shooting it down as a “clear overreaction.” The maiden voyage of the F-22 was in September 1997, when the first Raptor was flown out of Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta by then-51-year-old Marietta resident Paul Metz. Lockheed built 187 of the aircraft between 1991 and 2011, with the Marietta plant serving as the final assembly point for the plane. In 2005, at peak production, there were 5,600 employees working on the aircraft, 944 of them in Marietta. The Cobb Planning Commission approved a 21-home subdivision in west Cobb at its meeting Tuesday. The proposal from Brock Built Homes covers about 14 acres on Friendship Church Road, just down the street from Hillgrove High School. The request was approved 4-0 by the commission, with Chairman Stephen Vault absent. The rezoning request was for smaller land lots than what the area was previously zoned for, and the applicant also requested rezoning to an open space community, aimed at preserving greenspace to promote environmental sustainability in the development. The subdivision would have five acres of open space, according to the rezoning application. In other business, the commission approved a filmmaker's request to park a truck full of his equipment in the driveway of his east Cobb home. Roger Alexander said his request resulted from fear of “a coordinated crime ring” he said has been breaking into film studios around the Atlanta metro area and stealing millions of dollars' worth of equipment. For that reason, Alexander explained, he decided to move his gear into a box truck and park the truck in his driveway, behind a wooden gate. He was requesting a land use permit from the county to keep the truck in his driveway. The commission voted 4-0 to approve Alexander's request for up to 2 years. A former Osborne High School teacher received a three-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to having an illegal relationship with a student, the Cobb District Attorney's office confirmed Tuesday. Zachary Warren White, of Marietta, was first charged in 2021 after being accused of having sex with a student in his school office when he was employed as a graphic arts teacher. He was originally charged with two counts of sexual assault by a teacher. White pled guilty to one felony count of improper sexual contact by an employee or agent, per District Attorney Flynn Broady. In addition to his three years in prison, he will serve seven years on probation. #CobbCounty #Georgia #LocalNews      -            -            -            -            -            The Marietta Daily Journal Podcast is local news for Marietta, Kennesaw, Smyrna, and all of Cobb County.             Subscribe today, so you don't miss an episode! MDJOnline            Register Here for your essential digital news.            https://www.chattahoocheetech.edu/  https://cuofga.org/ https://www.esogrepair.com/ https://www.drakerealty.com/           Find additional episodes of the MDJ Podcast here.             This Podcast was produced and published for the Marietta Daily Journal and MDJ Online by BG Ad Group   For more information be sure to visit https://www.bgpodcastnetwork.com            See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

After years of delays, Canada is upgrading its air force and replacing its fleet of aging CF-18 fighters with the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II — a jet the Liberals once vowed they would never buy. The stealth fighter jet has long been touted as the future of aerial warfare, but the debate over buying a fleet has dragged on for more than a decade, starting under the Harper government. On the campaign trail in 2015, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the F-35 would be a "nightmare" for Canadian taxpayers. Today on Front Burner, we talk to Ottawa Citizen's Defence Reporter David Pugliese about why, after disavowing the F-35 fighter jet, the Liberals have decided to launch negotiations to buy 88 of them at an expected cost of $19-billion.

For some time now, Canada has been looking to replace their legacy CF18 Hornets which have been operating far beyond their planned service life.  As a result, the Canadian government has put forth a request to select a new fighter aircraft by 2022 with a projected program cost of $19 billion along with a strong consideration that some of the aircraft be built locally in Canada. The competition had been narrowed down to three manufacturers:  the Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, the Saab Gripen, and the Lockheed Martin  F-35.However the competition may have just been narrowed further to two fighters. Boeing has just been informed that the Super Hornet did not meet the federal government's requirements.  This comes as a surprise to many, who viewed the Super Hornet as a logical replacement to the Legacy Hornet, especially given that Canada is the largest operator of Hornets outside the US.  Additionally, the Super Hornet was the only entry with two engines, which some felt was a necessity when operating over an arctic environment.  Since the specific requirements that the Super Hornet failed to meet have not been released, there is a chance that Boeing could re-enter the competition. If you enjoy this episode, subscribe to this podcast, you can find links to many podcast streaming services here:PilotPhotog Podcast (buzzsprout.com)You can check out my YouTube channel for many videos on fighter planes here:https://youtube.com/c/PilotPhotogAnd finally you can follow me on Twitter here:https://twitter.com/pilotphotogSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/PilotPhotog)

In 2016 Northrop Aerospace Systems released a concept of what they predicted would be the design to replace current 5th generation aircraft like the Lockheed Martin F-22. While the development of both aircraft is separated by decades the actual concept of a flying wing design can trace its origins to Nazi Germany at the end of WWII. The Nazis were known to have produced a multitude of remarkable aircraft designs that were years ahead of their time. Some of these craft were claimed to have unusual properties that would have given them unmatched maneuverability and combat capabilities. NATO 20/2020: Twenty bold ideas for the Alliance after the 2020 US election

NATO is party to the turbulent birth of a new era, one that began when the use of computer power, algorithm sophistication, and very large data sets converged to make digital technology the defining feature of the coming decade. It affects almost every aspect of human endeavor, and it underpins the future of warfare and non-military competition among state and non-state actors vying for influence, markets, and power. For NATO to carry out its enduring mission to protect the populations, territories, and forces of allied states, it must reconcile conventional diplomatic and military power with data as a strategic capability. It needs a strategy for digitalization to compete and win the conflicts of tomorrow.   Key Takeaways: 0:00 Intro 2:03 Jeffrey talks about where he thinks that the Alliance is falling short when it comes to digitalization and where it needs to change  4:48 Barry talks about what he means by digitalizing the Alliance and what it's not doing already that needs digitalization 6:54 Barry also shares some examples of what China's military can do with digitalization that NATO's 30 militaries can't do 9:07 Barry tries to simplify the example that he just shared of what China's military can do with digitalization that NATO'S 30 militaries can't do  9:54 Jeffrey explains in detail why digitization strategy and harnessing improved technologies for NATO actually gives it more awareness to make better decisions 12:13 Barry explains why NATO needs to have strategies so as to make decisions quickly especially when in crisis  13:56 Jeffrey explains the difference between what they're talking about now and what he would describe as disruptive digitalization 15:33 Jeffrey and Barry also explain if they have seen any improvement with the centers of excellence that are often in cooperation with the EU 18:05 Jeffrey talks about game changer one, artificial intelligence and machine learning, how to integrate it to what NATO is doing and where it's more useful  19:25 Jeffrey talks about game changer two, data factory and how NATO can be using it as a weapon and as information  20:33 Jeffrey talks about the game changer four, staff and culture and having the experts on staff to be able to sift through and make operational use of data and how it ties in to game changer two  22:15 Jeffrey also talks about why NATO needs to hire the younger generation too and the benefits that it gets from doing so  23:05 Jeffrey talks about game changer three, footprint and reach, what it means and why NATO needs to think about it  24:25 Jeffrey also explains how NATO can take advantage of a digitalization strategy so as to be closer to the action or countries that are not allies  24:58 Jeffrey also explain the game changer five, a new ish way of war and how he suggests it can be used in NATO  Shows Mentioned: https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/content-series/nato20-2020/digitalize-the-enterprise/  https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/  Amazon.com, Inc. is an American multinational technology company based in Seattle, Washington, which focuses on e-commerce, cloud computing, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence. The 5th generation fighter ( https://www.militaryfactory.com/aircraft/5th-generation-fighter-aircraft.asp ) jet is also the most expensive, spent the longest in development, and involves more partners and assembly in more locations than any other aircraft in history. It is also the most lethal. This week, U.S. Air Force ( https://www.airforce.com/ ) Lieutenant Colonel Tucker “Cinco” Hamilton, former F-35 test pilot, joins us to explore this aircraft’s developmental legacy and present lethality. Sunday 22nd April 2018. VW PIKES PEAK EV CHALLENGER Volkswagen are moving forward with their fully electric Pikes Peak car, the all when drive challenger for the famous hill climb in June, which will see it tackle the 156-turn and 20km test in Colorado Springs. Today, Sunday 22nd April, VW will unveil the prototype in Paris. The car is said to be a testing ground for cutting edge technology which could make it’s way into the ID series road cars they’ll be selling in 2019. A full report on tomorrows show, and yes I’ll be tuned into the livestream!   IMAGE LEAKED FROM TESLA R&D LAB A leaked image from inside Tesla shows the new roadster parked next to two Tesla Semi Trucks. It was first leaked on @TheTeslaLife twitter feed.  The Roadster looks like Midnight Silver in colour but the whole picture itself is a slightly odd hue, definitely taken in a hurry on a smartphone and perhaps the lighting in the Tesla R&D lab wasn’t ideal for the camera.   MODEL 3 TEARDOWN HAS MUNRO IN LOVE The team who work with car veteran Sandy Munro haven’t always been the most complementary about Tesla. In fact with the Model 3 when they first got it, they were scathing about build quality. He called it miserable. But what’s this? A new video from them following a Model 3 teardown shows a bit of a turn around. In fact at time, Mr Munro seems to be Elon Musk’s biggest fanboy. Jeez get a room already! He says Tesla are on a completely different level to anything else he’s seen with battery technology, particularly how well balanced all the modules are. You can watch the full show on Autoline After Hours but check out the part where he says the Model 3 electronics are comparable to a flight controller found on the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II stealth multirole fighter. He raves about not only the electronics, but also the battery, and suspension. According to Simon Alvarez at Teslarati who spotted the video: “According to Munro, the Model 3’s Automatic Drive Modules are a class above the industry, featuring a design architecture that is usually found on high-end electronics and government-grade machines. Munro even compared the Model 3’s drive module to the flight controller of the F-35, which he is familiar with due to his company’s work for the US military.” “If you look at this thing, this is cell phone technology. This is the technology we would see in really high-end computers, normally for the government. When you look at this, you’re looking at the same kind of technology you’d see on a flight controller for an F-35, and we kind of know a little bit about that too. We do work for the military. Everything here smacks of cell phone technology and defence technology,” Munro said. ““This is big stuff. This is not inching up. This is revolutionary, and everybody else is sitting there twiddling their thumbs.” He's still adamant things like fit and finish are below par but, now Elon is in charge and focussed on quality, he says even Toyota would be craping their pants.   MYSTERY CAR MAKER TO USE WIRELESS CHARGING The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers has 39 societies, each one focused on a certain knowledge area. They provide specialized publications, conferences, business networking and sometimes other services. So now we know that, let me tell you why! IEEE.org say “an unnamed manufacturer will bring an electric car to market that offers wireless charging from WiTricity, Alex Gruzen, the company’s chief executive, tells IEEE Spectrum. "There’s often a misconception that somehow plugging in is 100 percent efficient," Gruzen says. "But a plug-in is from just 88 to 94 percent efficient; WiTricity's wireless system runs at 90 to 93 percent. The resonance also gives you a certain leeway in aligning the car and the charging plate. The vertical clearance can be as little as 10 centimetres (4 inches), for a sports car, and as much as 25 cm, for an SUV. The left-to-right positioning need be only within 10 cm of dead centre.” “Gruzen says it costs US $800 for a complete set—that is, for the receiver on the car, the transmitting pad, and the charging unit that connects to it. And, if the product comes to be offered as a standard feature in cars, it might add just $300 or so to the price of the car.” But what is that unnamed car? Let me tell you about the Geneva Motor Show, where a Hyundai Kona was on show in cutaway form, showing off…you guessed it, WiTricity tech fitted to it.   RECORD EV SALES IN GERMANY LAST MONTH A quick sales report for Germany from CleanTechnica: “Electric vehiclefever has definitely caught on in Germany, with March coming in as a record month and echoing France’s record electric car sales month. Germany had over 6,700 electric car registrations last month, a 52% increase year over year (YoY). The plug-in vehicle share of the overall car market was 2%. But more important than the plug-in niche are the seismic changes happening in the fuel mix of the mainstream market: diesel sales continue to sink (-25%!) YoY, to the benefit of all other fuels”. https://cleantechnica.com/2018/04/21/record-electric-car-sales-month-in-germany-while-diesel-dives-march-electric-car-sales-report/   WORLDS LARGEST ELECTRIC VEHICLE The world’s largest EV was unveiled this week, and it’s a monster. The cement works in the Swiss town of Bienne will be home to the e-Dumper. It weighs 58 tonnes, the tyres are a huge 2 metres in diameter, and the driver climbs up 9 steps to get to the cab. However whereas these would normally be diesel, spewing out thousands of tonnes of CO2 over it’s lifetime and using hundreds of thousands of litres of diesel, electrons do the heavy lifting. It will be carrying limestone and rock downhill, so it’s descending with a full load, where all the regen happens. And because the driver takes Lynx back up the hill with no load, all the power needed comes from the regen before. Therefore, energy consumption is zero.   SUBARU EVOLTIS And finally a little update on Subaru. They are part of the Subaru Corporation in Japan and have a rich heritage in making bonkers fast rally and road cars. They’re still around and were the 22nd largest auto maker at the last count. Thanks to Toyota owning a 16.5% stake in their parent company it makes sense for Toyota to loan them a few bits, and the most obvious donor vehicle is the Prius Prime PHEV. How about if Subaru maintained their reputation for all wheel drive in cars like the Impreza with an ICE driving the front wheels, and electric motors driving the rear wheels? Add in the recent filing from Subaru registering the name Evoltis and we could be looking at their first EV.   I’d love to spread the word about electric cars so, if you can, share this somebody who might be interested.
