Nigel Mansell's 1991 F1 championship charge effectively ended at the Portuguese Grand Prix that year, when a wheel departed from his Williams as he pulled away from his pitstop. Host Glenn Freeman is joined by Edd Straw and Sam Smith to look back in detail at what went wrong in the pits for Williams at Estoril, on a weekend where Mansell's team-mate Riccardo Patrese took an 'easy' win, and Ayrton Senna banked valuable championship points while also taking a swipe at Mansell's aggressive driving at the start of the race. We also look back on Jordan sacrificing its competitive aims for 1992 to make sure it stayed afloat, serious trouble for the Leyton House team, Ford's complaints about F1's engine war, how badly a Minardi-Porsche partnership would have gone, and how Max Mosley caught Jean-Marie Balestre out ahead of their battle for the presidency of FISA.Want MORE BBV10s? In this episode of the Automovie Podcast, Chris and Marty talk about the recently-released Max Mosley documentary on Netflix, the surprise departure of Justin Lin from Fast X, and selflessly watch the Dukes of Hazzard so that you don't have to. We also discover that we're not the only cars in films podcast out there, so say hi to https://reelsandwheels.libsyn.com (Reels and Wheels)! But first, https://variety.com/2022/film/news/fast-furious-10-director-justin-lin-exits-1235241923/ (Justin Lin has left Fast Ten). No word why, or if he'll be back for Fast 11. The great team at Tangent Vector have started producing a new series for Top Gear's YouTube channel with Rob Dahm called https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Rv5zuaTX_I&list=PLVf811yyyVnN_G-B0my-8oCvqEPMwzx4F (American Tuned). Alex Kersten has https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbX1V46I9LQ (set up his own YouTube channel) - Auto Alex - and his draw alone has garnered hundreds of thousands of subscribers in anticipation of new content. And finally the BBC has started posting old film reviews by the great, and much missed Barry Norman. His style was so well known and imitated that he became as much of a star as the films he reviewed, likehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHN8IeZXaVk ( Back to the Future) here. And why not. Since our last episode Chris has watched https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8936290/ (Mosley: It's Complicated) which also coincided with this https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3ct32fm (interview with Nikita Mazepin), and both had the same sort of media control. Marty visited hallowed ground in the Lake District (if you're going, stay in https://www.cottages.com/cottages/the-old-vicarage-uk1026 (this cottage)!) and talks about the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2oVSlfmrvI (Bluebird K7 restoration documentary). For our main review we discussed both the acting, and driving in the https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0377818/ (Dukes of Hazzard (2005)). Moving on... For his YouTube picks, Chris went with Driver61 puttinghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwca2n1cEXk ( F1 wheels and tyres onto an MR2) with... results. It also answered the question "What would happen if you wrapped someone up in tyre blankets?" His channel pick is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8zj1R6B-mDLx9vlF1VqTeg (SAMMIT), especially his time around https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lR-pVGiMiTY (Ebisu circuit during and after the recent earthquake). Marty carried on the good side of the Dukes of Hazzard vibe with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKEjmBot820 (Tanner Faust breaking down 10 car stunts in movies and TV). His channel is the excellent https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZjJ8RA9mUYvLcbg1RGq43Q (Brundle: Behind the Wheel). As the latest issue of GP Racing magazine hits the shelves, we congratulate ourselves on the serendipitous timing of putting Sergio Perez on the cover.  Ben had an exclusive interview with Perez and this is the result. It's even more interesting to read in the context of his win last weekend because he talks pretty frankly about how he's struggled to adapt to the car, but he was aware that was the only way he was going to succeed because the team weren't going to adapt the car to suit him.   Codders is joined by Ben Anderson and Mark Gallagher to talk about how Perez has settled in to Red Bull Racing, how F1 teams are coping with the budget cap and we pay tribute to Max Mosley.

Heute bekommt sky mal ein bisschen was ab. Heute bekommt sky mal ein bisschen was ab. SPECIAL GUEST: Kimi Raikkonen's Sauber engineer from 2001 - Jacky Eeckelaert! Sauber made waves over the winter of 2000-01 when it decided to sign a young Finn straight out of Formula Renault, with only 23 car races to his name. In the space of 12 months Kimi Raikkonen went from testing an F1 car for the first time - and impressing Michael Schumacher in the process - to signing for McLaren to replace two-time world champion Mika Hakkinen. Jacky Eeckelaert shares stories from inside Sauber, from the moment the team first gave Raikkonen a run-out at Mugello, to all the fuss about him being granted a superlicence - and why FIA president Max Mosley voted against it. Jacky also explains how big a mark Raikkonen made from the first time he sat in an F1 car, why Sauber never had any doubts about him being ready for F1 despite his lack of experience, how quickly he settled in during his rookie season - plus the story of how he tried to reattach his steering wheel when it came off at Imola, and kept his foot flat on the accelerator the whole time while doing so!We then plot the inevitability of Raikkonen's departure from Sauber just one year into a three-year deal, as McLaren and Ferrari went to battle for his services. Mark Hughes joins Jacky and host Glenn Freeman to explain what made Raikkonen stand out as soon as he joined the F1 grid, and why choosing silver over red was the right move for 2002. We also look at the other McLaren-contracted drivers who thought they were in with a shot of that drive, including one man who was told the seat was his before Raikkonen signed! Btw, 2020 is his only chance to claim the tag of the youngest-ever Formula 1 World Champion from Sebastian Vettel. But will we have at least 8 races to classify 2020 as a World Championship season? Also in this episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast (http://bit.ly/ilf1ponkf1b) , we tell you why racing in 2020 is important if we want to race in 2021. Will Formula 1 squeeze in a historic quadruple header in an attempt to host as many races as possible? Will the loss of revenue for teams be a good time to push budget cap reforms in the sport? Jean Todt remembers Max Mosley. The Formula 1 budget cap should extend towards power unit development costs as well. 12:00-15:00 - Dear Formula 1, please DO NOT take away motor-homes. The best coffee in the paddock? Williams! 15:00-18:00 - Also, have drivers been paid their racing fees in 2020 yet? The Virtual Grands Prix can be considered as 'racing from home' for the drivers - but there's no money or championship points in it 18:00-21:00 - Helmut Marko is wishing for a virus and a World Championship for Max Verstappen in 2020 - crazy! 21:00-end - Mercedes developed the DAS between December (2019) and February (2020) IF Esteban Ocon is to be believed! Would you like the details of your sex life, private conversations, and hidden passions splashed across the pages of a British tabloid or published online? Could you do anything to stop it? In Britain, unlike in the USA or France, there is no right to privacy, only a much weaker "right to confidence". And though Britain has notoriously tight libel laws – making it the favoured destination for libel tourists – they only work retrospectively, after publication, by which time your reputation has been shattered. That at any rate is the view of former FIA president Max Mosley – whose proclivities were exposed by the News of the World. In 2010 he applied to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg for a change in the law that would make it compulsory to inform people before publishing private information about them. Fastest Garage Hour podcast ever! We hit all the buttons on this mammoth show, with WRX and STi versus Evolution, all the fun stuff at this year's SHOT Show, all the things that are wrong with "stanced" cars, all kinds of sauce, East County chin armor, the new mullet (the fauxhawk), Max Mosley's Nazi hooker orgy, military branch back-slapping, skeet shooting with prizes (otherwise known as Amazon drones), and why the most important rule when shooting anything is to make sure you look cool. In studio with Hostus Maximus Justin Fort is a frightening array of cohosting awesomesauce: Dirty Dave, who escaped from Yuma; Hoosier Eric, who escaped from Indiana; Eryk from CalGuns.net, who'd like to escape from California; Charles from Wilde Built Tactical, who will probably help everyone escape; and Silent CJ (otherwise known as Godzilla), whose Evo is probably fast enough to escape Earth's gravity. jf

Max Mosley nominates the philosopher and proponent of personal liberty, John Stuart Mill, as his great life. With presenter Matthew Parris and biographer Richard Reeves. Max Mosley trained as a barrister and was an amateur racing driver before becoming involved in the professional sport, latterly as president of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile. The youngest son of Sir Oswald Mosley, former leader of the British Union of Fascists, and Diana Mitford, his family name made a career in politics impossible. His choice of Mill as a great life is a result of his recent experiences of suing the News of the World for invasion of privacy, and giving evidence to the Leveson Inquiry. He says that both sides of the debate used Mill's work on liberty to justify their arguments. Until summer 2012 Richard Reeves was Nick Clegg's Director of Strategy, and before that, head of the think-tank 'Demos'. His biography, 'John Stuart Mill - Victorian Firebrand', depicts Mill as a passionate man of action: a philosopher, radical MP and reformer who profoundly shaped Victorian society and continues to illuminate our own. Producer...Mary Ward-Lowery First broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 2013.

Almost a year after the furore over superinjunctions, there is a joint Lords and Commons report on what should be done to safeguard privacy. Among the recommendations is a call for search engines such as Google to do more to limit potential breach of court orders, with legislation to back that up if needed. Max Mosley has been calling for tighter control and he discusses this with John Kampfner, the outgoing director of Index on Censorship. John Whittingdale MP chaired the committee behind the report and Steve questions him over the findings on privacy and press regulation.BBC Panorama has been reporting on claims that a NewsCorp business, NDS, hacked into rivals' software in the pay-TV business in the UK and Italy and the front page story in the Financial Times today widens this to Australia. NDS denies any wrongdoing. Stewart Purvis, formerly of ITN and Ofcom, gives his view of where, if anywhere, the story is going. And there's a legal threat to The Only Way is Essex, ITV's "dramality" show, from the people behind a pilot programme, Totally Essex, which they say TOWIE's makers lifted from them. TOWIE's producers, Lime Pictures, say it's entirely their own work. Lawyer Rebecca Swindells outlines the issues when trying to protect any rights in a TV format. The producer is Simon Tillotson.

Harriet Harman MP is the new shadow secretary of state for culture, media and sport, replacing Ivan Lewis MP. So what are Labour's policies on the media generally and, specifically, on the BBC and on cross-media ownership? Neville Thurlbeck was chief news reporter at the News of the World when it closed in July, where he had worked for twenty years. He was the reporter on the Max Mosley story and, separately, his name came up in reports of the Gordon Taylor phone hacking scandal when the phrase "for Neville" appeared on an emailed transcript of hacked voicemails. He denies involvement in phone hacking and tells Steve how he tried to clear his name when his connection with it was first suggested. The producer is Simon Tillotson.

Max Mosley has won damages in Paris from the publishers of the News of the World for invasion of privacy. Is this the end of his actions against the News of the World or does he now have new targets?Last week the Arab League secured an agreement with Syria to stop violence against protesters and to allow journalists to monitor the situation in the country. It is not the first time Syrian authorities have said journalists can work in the country without fear, even if the reality is very different. A Syrian dissident who's fled the country tells Steve why she tries to help foreign journalists, despite the danger to them and to the people they interview. Sue Lloyd Roberts has recently returned from Syria where she reported undercover for BBC2's Newsnight and she talks about the precautions she has to take to protect her sources from arrest and punishment.Tomorrow, James Murdoch returns to give evidence on what he did and did not know about phone hacking at the News of the World. The evidence he gave in July has been contradicted by the newspaper's editor Colin Myler and lawyer Tom Crone and so the Commons Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee has asked for clarification. Sarah Ellison has written extensively for Vanity Fair on the impact of the phone hacking claims on the Murdoch family and, from New York, she comments on where the latest claims leave James Murdoch while Damian Collins MP outlines the questions he will be putting in tomorrow's crucial session. The producer is Simon Tillotson.

Questions about privacy and freedom of the press have dominated the headlines this week. Twitter users allegedly breaking super-injunctions, Max Mosley losing his case for stronger privacy laws in the European Court and a complaint from the Middletons to the PCC have re-ignited the debate about public figures' right to privacy. But is there a real threat to freedom of the press? And are tabloid exposes more about boosting newspaper sales than upholding public morals? Dominic Lawson, Kelvin MacKenzie and Professor Roy Greenslade discuss whether privacy legislation poses a challenge for the media. Channel 4 releases its annual report today, following suggestions that the broadcaster could be doing better than expected. Media commentator Maggie Brown joins Steve Hewlett, straight from Channel 4's chief executive David Abraham's announcement, to discuss whether this has been a good financial year for Channel 4.
