From the moment he saw midget racers in Pasadena as a kid in the late 1940s, Jim Busby was hooked on cars. He became a hot rodder, a mechanic, a drag racer, and by the 1970s he was behind the wheel of Lolas and Porsches on road circuits in the US and Europe. Jim made his mark at places like Lime Rock, Sebring, Daytona, Monza, the Nurburgring, and of course, Le Mans.He also had many successful years building engines and cars and managing his own racing team, culminating with the mighty Porsche 962. In this wide ranging conversation, Jim Busby reflects on his fifty year career in motorsport, recalling the machines, friends and rivalries that shaped his life in motorsport. SUPPORT THE PODCAST:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/hpheritageSUBSCRIBE to Horsepower Heritage on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@horsepowerheritageFIND US ON THE WEB:https://www.horsepowerheritage.comINSTAGRAM: @horsepowerheritageHORSEPOWER HERITAGE is created, produced and hosted by Maurice Merrick.Get in touch with Maurice:https://horsepowerheritage.com/contact Support the showHELP us grow the audience! FELIPE MASSA AND THE 2008 CHAMPIONSHIP NOW IN COURT!…WHO KNEW AND, WHO DIDN'T KNOW? WILL LCH BE FORCED TO HAND OVER 2008 GOODIES?...HOW COULD PIASTRI DROP OFF SO BADLY? COMPARED TO LANDO NORRIS! AND, THIS WEEK'S NASIR HAMEED CORNER WE GET NOSTALGIC WITH A LOOK BACK TO 2016...GP2 ENGINE AAAHHHH.... Felipe Massa's Legal Case: In 2023, Massa filed a lawsuit against the FIA (International Automobile Federation) and F1's governing body, arguing that the manipulation of the 2008 race — which he believes cost him the championship — was not only unfair but should have been investigated more thoroughly at the time. Key points in Massa's case include: Fraud and Misconduct: Massa alleges that the events surrounding the Singapore Grand Prix in 2008 were fraudulent and misrepresented to the public, and that this directly affected the outcome of the championship. Potential Victory: He claims that, had the safety car period not occurred due to the orchestrated crash, he would have won the race and the title. Timing: Massa's case is built on the assertion that new evidence (like testimonies from insiders and other facts) has come to light, suggesting that the true extent of the manipulation wasn't fully revealed or dealt with at the time. Why Now? Massa's legal action comes years after the original events, with the key question being why the case is being pursued so late in the day. Some speculate that Massa might have been waiting for the right legal grounds or new evidence to surface, or simply for a change in the FIA's leadership and its handling of such cases. Current Status: As of late 2023, the case was ongoing, with Massa and his legal team looking to secure compensation or possibly even a re-opening of the 2008 season's results. Massa has hinted that he might be seeking justice more than just financial recompense. The outcome of this case could have significant implications for F1 and how the sport handles cases of team manipulation, race fixing, or other forms of cheating. It also raises questions about accountability within F1 and the FIA regarding race conduct. Massa's lawsuit is likely to be a long and complex legal battle, given the intricacies of sports law and the FIA's position in the motorsport world. How sweep it is: Porsche takes all three IMSA titles. At the end of the day, you can't talk about a history of racing without a history of winning. After a season of sweat, heat, trading paint and swapping drivers, Porsche Penske Motorsport has taken all three 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship titles: Drivers', Teams', and Manufacturers'. No race—and no championship—is a given until the checkered flag drops. Yet after finding victory lane in the first four races of the season, there was definitely something in the air around Porsche Penske Motorsport. And with victories secured at Daytona, Sebring, Long Beach, and Monterey, the 963 was cementing its status as another legendary Porsche endurance racer. A string of strong finishes followed, all of them in the face of intense competition—which is exactly how racing should be. Because it's in the heat of the moment that you learn the lessons that make you better. All of them culminating at Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, where the whole Porsche Penske Motorsport crew took what they'd learned and made it official: they're the champs. We were recently introduced to the infectious music of Nep and instantly knew we wanted to listen to more, and to hopefully bring her on the show.  Multiple bangers later, here we are - right on the heels of the release of the brand new music on her debut full length release Noelle and right before she tours to support the new music. The story of Nep begins in Daytona, Florida, a place of endless motorcycle rallies, sticky summers, and the kind of small-town culture she always knew she'd leave behind. Growing up surrounded by Bike Week and Biketoberfest, she felt both shaped and alienated by the noise of her hometown. "Beaches are fucked, Daytona sucks," she sings on Biketoberfest, mocking and mourning the place that raised her. It's that push and pull, the desire to escape and the need to memorialize, that fuels her debut album, Noelle. Written during her senior year at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music, Nep crafted the record with her best friend and collaborator Jake Sonderman. Between classes, late-night studio sessions, and college parties that often bled into the lyrics themselves, the pair built an album that feels both diaristic and cinematic: raw experience refracted through sharp, infectious indie-pop.We'll explore her upbringing in a house of music and engineers, her college years where she blossomed and found her true self, and now here at the precipice of music stardom.Nep will also perform live acoustic on the show!  Don't miss it!!Text us your thoughts on this episode, and who should be OUR #NextFavBand...As always, our hope is to bring you "your next favorite band". The Daily Boost | Coaching You Need. Success You Deserve.

Why Winners Quit More Than Losers October 24, 2025 | Episode 5210 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description Scott's been hammered over the years for quitting. He's a good quitter. Really good at it. When he decides something's over, it's over. Even if everybody around him thinks he's crazy. Some of the worst things he's seen? People who stick with things way too long. It's Biketoberfest in Daytona and his phone's blowing up with buddies wanting to meet up. All code for beer. But Scott's going to enjoy all the crazy people sober this time. And yes, he said "hammered" and "sober" in the same sentence. That's not right. Featured Story Scott's phone is exploding with messages during Biketoberfest. His motorcycle's polished up and ready. His buddies are in town asking when he's going to ride, where they'll meet, what they're doing. Basically it's all code for drinking. Scott hasn't been drinking for a while. He quit that too. When he decides something's over, it's over. One client described him like this: "Scott, you just kind of always have hope. You just kind of know it's going to work out. How do you know that?" Scott's response? "I don't know. I just know that." That optimism serves him well. But too much positivity doesn't pay the bills or make you happy. Sometimes things don't work and you need to quit and find another way. Being a strategic quitter is how winners operate. Losers stick with terrible situations way too long. Important Points Being a good quitter is not an excuse to avoid hard things—sometimes you have to stick with it, but strategically quitting when things aren't right is smart. Your inner voice sounds an alarm based on wisdom from experience, and when it says maybe it's time, trust your gut instead of driving toward a cliff. Sometimes goals become "what was I thinking" goals when the world changes, and reasonable people will understand if you give them a good reason for quitting. Memorable Quotes "When I decide something's over, it's over. Even if everybody around me thinks, what are you doing?" "There is no need to wait for the inevitable. Trust your gut. Trust your inner voice." "Sometimes it's a 'what was I thinking' goal. Sometimes the winds have shifted." Scott's Three-Step Approach Recognize when you're going around in circles or stuck in a cul-de-sac—that's when being a good quitter becomes essential for moving forward. Listen to your inner voice when it sounds the alarm because it's your wisdom trying to protect you from inevitable disaster. Change direction fast once you've determined you're not going the right way—don't pump it up to 85 mph toward a closed bridge just because you committed. We've driven nearly all of 'em. Almost every road model, plus some of the great race cars—a 934 and 935, RSRs, a Daytona-winning Sixties 2.0-liter. Not to mention the extended family, like a Le Mans-winning Rothmans 962, a few 959s, Jerry Seinfeld's 1964 “Butzi” car, the list goes on.Why do people love (and hate) the Porsche 911? Are the great ones worth the money? Can a reasonable person grow to love a good 911 if they don't much like the things to begin with?Cliché questions. 8 Common Sense Rules You Can't Avoid October 15, 2025 | Episode 5203 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description What if life came with rules you could just accept and move on? Scott dives into eight unavoidable truths that successful people need to hear. These aren't the kind of rules you break or bend. They're the ones that make life easier once you stop fighting them. From passion to frustration to that big picture you keep losing sight of, this episode cuts through the noise. You'll walk away knowing exactly which battles aren't worth fighting. Featured Story Picture this: Scott's sitting at his favorite coffee shop on Beach Street in Daytona, enjoying a perfect latte on a beautiful day. He's done with work. Life is good. Then it hits him. He hasn't recorded the podcast yet. The very one you're listening to right now. So he hops on his motorcycle and rides all the way back home to hit record. And the irony? He's about to talk about life's unavoidable rules and the speed limits we all face. Sometimes you want to relax at a coffee shop. Sometimes life has other plans. Important Points Following your passion doesn't guarantee immediate money, but it guarantees happiness while you figure out the money part. The road ahead will get rough, then smooth, then rough again—and that's true whether you take the easy path or the hard one. You're never going to eliminate frustration, but you can choose to be frustrated and excited at the same time. Memorable Quotes "Nothing will ever happen until you move from daydreaming into daily action." "Whatever path you thought you would travel, it's going to change." "Once you understand this, here's what happens. Suddenly all this stuff just kind of takes less precedence in your life." Scott's Three-Step Approach Accept that your calling is just the first step, not the complete plan—five years from now, you'll wonder how you got there, but you'll love it. Check your speed limit regularly and pace yourself—hustle culture isn't always what it's cracked up to be, but neither is sitting around doing nothing. Focus on where you want to look instead of getting buried in daily frustrations—they're both always going to be there anyway. Connect With Me Search for The Daily Boost on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. All good things come to an end, and 2025 marks the end of an institutional powerhouse in Venturini Motorsports. From humble beginnings in Chicago to the high banks of Daytona, Big Bill was there every step of the way, with his wife Cathy by his side. He explains why now is the right time to step away from the sport, what made Nick Tucker and Nitro Motorsports the right group to take things over, how proud he is of his son, Billy, who has run day-to-day operations (who makes a surprise appearance!), why the ARCA Menards Series has been the right platform for them all these years, how he feels about the health of the series, the legacy he feels like he's leaving behind and more. A whirlwind rise to Formula 1 with its most famous team in the 1960s, and one of the greatest sportscar racing drivers in the world during the ‘70s and ‘80s, Derek Bell has established an incredible legacy in motorsport. Speaking to Tom Clarkson, Derek talks about being personally picked by Enzo Ferrari to make his Formula 1 debut for the team at their home race and what it was like going out for dinner with Ferrari's founding father. It would have taken a brave person to bet money on James Rispoli winning the Mission Super Hooligan National Championship after the first two rounds of the series at Daytona International Speedway and Road Atlanta. Rispoli was third and fifth in the two races at Daytona and those were a highlight as the two races at Road Atlanta ended with zero points for the KWR Harley-Davidson team. He left Georgia trailing points leader Jake Lewis by 48 points. But it all changed at Ridge Motorsports Park when Rispoli carded a pair of second-place finishes. That started a roll with Rispoli winning the final four races to beat Lewis to the title by four points. We chatted with Rispoli about his Hooligan title, the Mission King Of The Baggers Championship, and more on this episode of Off Track With Carruthers And Bice.Support the show
