Today our guest is Kendrick Claxton, Vice Principal at Central Middle School in Kansas City Public Schools. We talk about how positive school culture is built through systems that create belonging, safety, and consistent adult support. Kendrick shares how mentorship, trusted adults, and simple daily practices help students feel seen and supported. He highlights how consistency, not grand gestures, drives stronger engagement, safer schools, and better outcomes for students and staff. In this conversation, Kendrick offers clear answers to questions school leaders are asking every day: A sense of belonging is built when every student has a trusted adult and experiences consistent care. Simple systems like threshold greetings, and student feedback strengthen school culture and safety. Consistency matters more than programs because it creates psychological safety for students and staff. Strong mentorship supports higher engagement, fewer behavior incidents, and stronger academic outcomes.   Learn More About CharacterStrong:  Access FREE MTSS Curriculum Samples Request a Quote Today! Ash supports personal and collective transformation by guiding people into deeper connection with themselves, each other, and life itself through somatic wisdom, embodied and authentic relating practices, and movement + expression. Their work is rooted in the belief that the ache, tension, and longing we carry are not “problems to fix,” but raw material for personal evolution, where the art of alchemy truly lives.Together, they explore:Somatic coaching as a path to self-trust and the body as our most honest guide. Nervous system regulation in intense times and why safety isn't a concept, it's a felt experience. “First responders”: the early signals in the body that let us intervene before activation takes the wheel. How to work with emotions in a way that's compassionate, practical, and grounded in real life (not bypass-y). Authentic Relating as a practice of truth + care: saying what's real while staying connected to impact. Belonging vs. fitting in and how self-belonging becomes the foundation for healthy community. Holding multiple truths in queer spaces with more curiosity, less fragility, and more capacity for nuance. Alchemy as transmutation: turning pain, tension, and longing into power, meaning, and movement. Ash's queer journey, representation, and the ways “coming out” can be a lifelong unfolding. Ecstatic dance as an embodied portal back into aliveness, joy, and community.Connect with Ash: Website: www.ashwitham.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alchemy.with.ash/Connect with Wil: Website: https://www.wil-fullyliving.com/ Instagram: @wilfish99Support the show

In this episode of the podcast, I explore why marriages feel empty even when couples are still together. The answer isn't about compatibility or whether you "married the right person." It's about three essential elements that every strong marriage needs, and what happens when they disappear. I'm bringing together insights from Brené Brown, Tony Robbins, and Jennifer Wallace's new book Mattering to show you a different way of understanding what's really going wrong. These aren't just abstract concepts. They are deeply wired human needs that your marriage either fulfills or frustrates. Here's what makes this episode different: I'm not just diagnosing the problem. I'm showing you why the disconnection you're feeling creates a cascade of other losses — and why connection is always the starting point for rebuilding. If you've been wondering whether your marriage can be saved, or if you're stuck in a relationship that feels more like going through the motions than genuine partnership, this episode will help you see your situation more clearly. Listen now to discover: • Why "fitting in" to your marriage leaves you feeling emptier than being alone • The hidden way disconnection steals your sense of significance • What it really means to "matter" to someone - and why you can't fake it • How to know if you've been hitting the Un-Pause Button without realizing it This might be the perspective shift you've been needing. "Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his wife, and they become one flesh." Genesis 2:24 Summary In this episode, we talk about something every person longs for: belonging. At its heart, marriage is meant to be a place where you are chosen, known, and not easily walked away from. It's a home base, the one relationship you freely choose, where staying matters more than being perfect. Belonging in marriage isn't about constant agreement or effortless connection. It's about knowing someone is still there when things are hard, awkward, or unfinished. Over time, that kind of commitment creates safety, trust, and real intimacy. We also explore why working through the mess together often leads to deeper joy than walking away. Join us as we begin a series on building lasting belonging in marriage, starting with the foundation of healthy communication. Key Takeaways Everyone needs a place where they Belong and that is found in marriage for Catholic couples Build that home base in your marriage by affirming your commitment to each other, not just that you are doing everything perfectly. Being known in marriage happens through vulnerability.  When you belong you are able to be more vulnerable.  When you work as a team with common goals that also builds connection and belonging   Couple Discussion Questions How can we continue to build a safe place, a comfort in belonging to each other in our marriage?  What are our shared goals and dreams?    Resources Study showing couples who stay together are happier https://ifstudies.org/blog/for-most-couples-who-stay-the-course-marriage-gets-better-with-time-an-interview-with-paul-r-amato Importance of Shared Meaning https://www.gottman.com/blog/enriching-marriage-creating-shared-meaning/

In a country that is hurting and fractured by deep division, many of us are wondering how to remain rooted in love. As followers of Jesus, the question before us is not simply what do we think, but how do we stay human, attentive, and faithful in such a time as this? In this thoughtful and spacious conversation, Rachael Clinton Chen welcomes theologian and author Kat Armas into a much-needed dialogue about power, imagination, and what it means to remain grounded and joined together in the way of Jesus. Drawing from her newest book, "Liturgies for Resisting Empire: Seeking Community, Belonging, and Peace in a Dehumanizing World," Kat invites listeners beyond political binaries and party lines into a deeper reckoning with how power has shaped our stories.  Here, empire names more than a political system. It refers to any way of organizing life—political, theological, cultural, or personal—that relies on power and fear to preserve itself, rather than love, humility, and mutual care. Often, its influence goes unnamed, shaping our imaginations, our bodies, our relationships, and even our spirituality. Against this backdrop, Kat offers liturgies as embodied practices that can steady us, give us language when words feel thin, and help us resist dehumanization together. This episode is not about debating political parties or policies. Instead, it invites us to slow down, to notice what's been "in the water" all along, and to return our attention to Jesus. We hope this conversation offers something more sustaining than easy answers—a holy resistance shaped by presence, community, and love. About the Allender Center Podcast: For over a decade, the Allender Center Podcast has offered honest, thoughtful conversations about the deep work of healing and transformation. Do you sometimes ask your kids questions like "are you doing ok?" or "am I causing you trauma" and then they stare at you blankly and ask if they can have candy now? All three of us have kids who are of multiple racial and ethnic ancestry. We all worry about how they will relate to various parts of their identities and if they will feel a healthy sense of belonging... but that's not the sort of thing most kids will be able to straight up tell you.So we brought on an incredibly thoughtful adult who grew up as a bi-racial person in America and we had a very honest and vulnerable discussion of what that was like for him. Daniel Tam-Claiborne is the author of Transplants, which was a 2023 PEN America Literary Award Finalist. Daniel talks about his childhood growing up in New York City with an ethnically Chinese mother who herself grew up in Cuba and his Jewish father. He discusses how he felt both insider/outsider in many aspects of his identity as a biracial person and how that has shaped his life as an adult and even now as a father of a young daughter. If you have a biracial person in your life that you care for, this one is a must-listen.

In this New Year episode, Fr. Harry and Fr. Anthony challenge the casual habit of saying “my church” by reframing ecclesial identity: the Church is of God—not our possession, but the place to which we belong, purchased by Christ's blood (Acts 20) and built as a household on the apostolic foundation with Christ as cornerstone (Eph. 2:18–20). They trace how the Church's catholic “wholeness” is Trinitarian—the Body of Christ, the temple of the Holy Spirit, and the people of the Father—made real through baptism, chrismation, and the Eucharist. Along the way, they clarify Christ's unique mediation (mesitēs), show why the Church can be called “of Christ” without diminishing the Trinity, and close with Theophany's vivid sacramental imagery—especially the ancient practice of breathing/blowing over the waters as participation, not mere remembrance.

One of the greatest struggles humans have is with our pressing need to feel like we belong. We were created for fellowship and connection with God and others, so the desire for belonging is a proper human need that has been bent and twisted by sin. In this episode, Cameron and Anna discuss the fact that our basic desire is actually to belong to God, and then with others, and Jesus is the way into our belonging. What if the core of equine‑assisted work isn't a method, a certification, or a discipline — but the shared act of creating a new story together? In this wide‑ranging and deeply human conversation, Rupert Isaacson speaks with Betsy Kahl — senior PATH instructor, social worker, horsewoman, and long‑time collaborator in the Horse Boy and Takhin Equine Integration work. Drawing on decades of experience across therapeutic riding, classical dressage, social work, and the performing arts, Betsy reflects on where equine‑assisted practice has come from, where it is now, and where it may need to go next.Together, Rupert and Betsy explore the often‑unspoken layers beneath equine‑assisted work: grief and loss, belonging and exclusion, the tension between mainstream systems and lived wisdom, and the role horses play in helping humans keep moving when life threatens to stall. From theater arts and role‑playing to adaptive riding, veterans' work, and the quiet intelligence of in‑hand training, this episode weaves together disciplines that are too often kept apart.Rather than arguing for a single approach, this conversation invites practitioners, riders, and listeners to reflect on what unites all good equine work — care for the horse's wellbeing, respect for individual capacity, and the courage to remain present in uncertainty. It is a dialogue about humility, creativity, and the radical idea that healing — for horses and humans alike — is relational. If you work with horses and people, or if horses have helped you navigate grief, transition, or identity, this episode offers both grounding and challenge. If you want to support the show, you can do so at Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/LongRideHome

Since 2001, they have equally devoted themselves to contemporary architectural design and restoration of old haciendas, manor houses, buildings, and heritage sites, adapting them for new, compatible uses. A local and modern sensibility, combined with a comprehensive approach to architecture, interior design, furniture, landscaping, and construction coordination, characterizes their new buildings and restoration/reuse projects. Other contributions to Mexican architecture include the revival and reinterpretation of local materials and techniques, such as Chukum-based mortar and structural concrete blended with red earth known as kancab. While belonging has increased, the quality of belonging has declined. When meaning weakens, belonging looks for substitutes. The greatest gift we can give future generations isn't comfort, it's meaningful belonging with purpose. Think of a moment you have felt proud to be a "_____" (insert your family name) "When anchors weaken, substitutes take over." - Lee Brower Meaningful belonging requires anchors: faith, family, principles, and service to something larger than ourselves. When those anchors weaken, substitutes rush in—noise, pleasure, and distraction that promise connection but rarely deliver fulfillment. True belonging stretches us. It calls us to rise, to serve, and to strengthen one another across generations. When a person can't find a deep sense of meaning, they distract themselves with pleasure." - Viktor Frankl “When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing; they then become capable of believing in anything.” - G.K. In this episode of the Italian American Podcast, Patrick, Mariana, and Marcella are joined by guest Umberto Mucci for a live conversation recorded at IAFL4 (Italian American Future Leaders 4), a national gathering of young Italian Americans. The discussion explores cultural identity, community building, leadership, nostalgia, and what it means to belong across generations and borders. The conversation deepens as the group addresses longstanding tensions between Italians in Italy and their American descendants. Drawing on his experience on both sides of the Atlantic, Mucci offers a candid perspective on why Italian American pride can sometimes meet resistance in Italy, and how history, perception, and unresolved misunderstandings continue to shape those dynamics. The episode also previews a forthcoming podcast spinoff aimed at bridging that divide, featuring Italian journalists reporting from the United States for audiences in Italy. Balancing humor with intellectual seriousness, the hosts dismantle stereotypes, share family stories, and respond directly to online critics. The result is an honest, engaging dialogue—and a call for greater empathy between communities bound by shared history, memory, and culture on both sides of the ocean. Brené meets him there and drops the gut-punch research: fitting in is a constant scan of the room, deciding who to become so you won't be left out, and the price is betrayal. You can feel the tension in the paradox she names, wanting connection while quietly disappearing inside it, and the harsh truth that it's not sustainable. The practical move is small but ruthless: catch yourself in the “Who do I need to be right now?” spiral and replace it with “Who am I, even if it's awkward?” Choose one place this week to stop performing, even in a tiny way, like saying what you actually think or not laughing at the joke that makes someone smaller. Belonging everywhere starts when you can walk into any room and not abandon yourself just to be liked, because real freedom is being able to stand alone without feeling lonely.Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. High performers often equate momentum with pressure. If burnout recovery has made things feel calmer instead of urgent, this episode explains why that's not regression—it's alignment. Learn how renewed momentum works at the identity level.Momentum doesn't always feel intense. For many high-capacity humans, the most disorienting part of burnout recovery is realizing that progress no longer feels urgent. In this episode of The Recalibration, Julie Holly explores Renewed Momentum—the stage where forward movement begins to feel lighter, steadier, and more sustainable. In this episode, you'll learn:Why calm momentum is often mistaken for stagnation or disengagementHow burnout recovery changes your internal signal for progressWhy urgency was never proof of effectiveness—just pressure in disguiseWhat's actually happening in the nervous system when momentum feels easierHow identity alignment reduces friction, decision fatigue, and self-overrideWhy “lighter” movement often lasts longer than driven effortThis episode speaks directly to high performers navigating:burnout recovery, decision fatigue, role confusion, success without fulfillment, spiritual exhaustion, and identity drift.Julie introduces Identity-Level Recalibration (ILR) as the differentiator—not another mindset tactic, but the root-level recalibration that makes every other tool effective again. When identity is aligned, momentum no longer requires self-sacrifice.Team Recalibration (for leaders)Instead of asking “What's next?”, try asking your team: “What's already moving?” This reinforces progress without manufacturing urgency and builds trust without pressure.Today's Micro RecalibrationNotice one place this week where you moved forward without forcing it. Noelle Cook's The Conspiracists: Women, Extremism, and the Lure of Belonging is the first ethnography of conspirituality, and it comes via someone who was able to really embed themselves in a volatile culture and find its emotional logic. She's our guest today. Cook focuses on the travails of two middle-aged women following the January 6 Capitol riot. By spending years befriending and talking with Tammy Butry and Yvonne St. Cyr, Cook is able to document the impacts of childhood trauma and systemic neglect—as well as diverse personality quirks—that can drive folks toward QAnon.  They are starseeds. They are mama bears. They are on a divine mission to destroy the matrix and usher in the Great Awakening. For them, the algorithms were oracles, reinforcing isolation and radicalization by providing a sense of purpose to the purposeless, and visibility to the invisible. Cook has not written a book for answers, but a book filled with the next questions worth grappling with as we realize how deeply wounded some recruits to fascism are.
