We're keen as mustard to share our episode featuring The Mustard with you this week! The quality quartet from Manchester have an ep coming out, and have graciously allowed us to pick songs from it to dissect and discuss. Prepare to be amazed by how much they're cramming/ have crammed in a mere 9 months after their first gig, get ready for a highly concentrated dose of optimism and prepare for all of this soundtracked by some brilliant punk rock with that 90s vibe we all know and love. The boys give an update on the fat fighters challenge, Niall moans, Tom's exhasperated and there's a new take on an old classic from the big book of bullshit. Songs come from: The Dopamines, Serial Chiller, Groovie Ghoulies. Memy and NOFX.

With my brain focused on “Teenage Kicks” covers these days, it seems natural for me to put together another show of nothing but covers of classics tunes from the past. And tonight’s show could not have been timed better, as today Kepi Ghoulie of the Groovie Ghoulies put our a fabulous covers record, Full Moon Forever. Plus I’ve uncovered a number of other great new remakes the last few days, including Juniper’s lofi redo of “James” by The Bangles, Devil Love’s lovely tribute to Big Star’s “Thirteen”, and a trip back to my childhood with Jenny Dee & The Deelingquent’s rousing “Fox On the Run”. But, of course, the main focus is on the “52 Weeks of Teenage Kicks” series, and tonight features the very first submission! It may be a bit fitting that said cover is by the one and only Malibu Lou at Rum Bar Records!!! Yes! He’s a huge fan, as you can tell by the accompanying email: “It’s one of my top 5 personal favorite songs ever. I covered it many years in many bands!! Here’s a demo version of Malibu Lou & The Attackers performing it circa 96 in NYC!!” I couldn’t be more thrilled, and […]

John Kenneth Press was born on May 22nd, 1964. His parents were hippies of a sort. For one thing they named him after John F. Kennedy who had been shot six months before his birth. He grew up in Venice Beach and Santa Monica California. His parents participated in the divorce trend when he was eleven. This caused his young life to sputter a bit. We can see from the biography so far that the greater trends of society are not impersonal. Before and after graduating from high school, John played music in the Los Angeles punk rock scene. He eventually played with members of Sonic Youth, Red Cross and Nirvana. These were, however, short lived experiences. After completing a solo recording in which he played all of the instruments Press traveled for a year and a half. Visiting Europe, West Africa, Israel and Egypt made quite an impression on him. He lived with Muslim cults, saw great art, and was turned rightward politically. Upon returning to Los Angeles he joined the famed cult glam group the Groovie Ghoulies. But this short stay was interrupted when he moved to San Jose to pursue a degree in psychology and two teaching credentials. He had adopted, at this point, a love of capitalism, which was soon to be nearly entirely reversed. - www.culturism.us

In our debut episode, we discuss X (2022) and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014). We also introduce ourselves and briefly discuss our music and our podcasting backgrounds. Later we play a trivia game called Tubi or Bandcamp, before choosing the worst film we can find to see how far we make it. Thanks to everyone who listens as we get things going here. Our audio setup was a challenge, and we already have some things to try to make it better. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any feedback, comments, or suggestions for future films that we should cover. You can message us through facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/aftermidnighthorrorpodcast In addition to the soundtrack songs, the background music is all Groovie Ghoulies.

Allie from Peach Kelli Pop has popped in for a chat, and there's a lot going on so, amongst other things, we hear: Allie's eyewitness account of Glen Danzig's satanic post-gig ritual, Noel's House Party (can/should we bring it back?) and, of course, dogs. We also cover serious topics like domestic appliances. As well as that, Tom has a scientific predicament he needs your help with. Additional tunes this week are from Groovie Ghoulies and The Drips.
In ep86 the lads talk about bands touring without original members, bands touring and only playing their "new material", and other nonsense. With songs by Geoff Palmer, Screeching Weasel, Groovie Ghoulies, Meatmen, Black Halos and Verbal Abuse.

Bobtober continues with a trivia contest you can REALLY SINK YOUR TEETH INTO! Yes, Vampire and Witch/Witchcraft movie and TV show trivia, just in time for Halloween. The good folks of the “This Podcast Is Haunted” podcast joined me recently for questions about Dracula, The Craft, The VVitch and more! Cate, Jen and Danny put a stake through the heart of these questions and that was no easy task. How will you measure up? Stoke the fire under your cauldron and see what comes boiling out of the pot, maybe you’ll learn a thing or two? The music of the episode only comes out at night in the form of the two vampire songs - “(She’s My) Vampire Girl” by the Groovie Ghoulies and “Vampire Girl Prefers Me Alive” by J Church. Oi Polloi shares my feelings with the song “Don’t Burn The Witch, Burn The Rich” and War On Women makes an appearance with a BRAND NEW SONG off their forthcoming record, “Wonderful Hell”, which is also the title of the song! This episode is brought to you by the fine folks of Sticker Junkie (promo code for Sticker Junkie is in the episode) and Thirty One Ten Printing.

It’s Halloween, a perfect time thanks a requested review to revisit the the Groovie Ghoulies 1997 album Re-Animation Festival. With a mixture of early rock ‘n roll riffs courtesy Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly, mixed with Ramones energy and Monkees goofiness, all wrapped in a Misfits-style horror punk sound, the Ghoulies give us some good creeps on All Hallows Eve. The band hit their stride keeping it simple, and our complaints are few. We also wonder if the Ghoulies were ahead of their time and missed out on an opportunity to cross platforms and launch a Doc McStuffins/Jake and the Neverland Pirates kids show. Songs in this Episode Intro - Graveyard Girlfriend 8:46 - Zombie Crush 12:03 - Tunnel of Love 14:30 - Graceland 15:45 - If You Need Me 18:47 - Evading The Grays Outro - Chupacabra Subscribe at Patreon Facebook / Twitter / Instagram Zazzle Merch Store http://www.digmeoutpodcast.com

Episode 99 of Love That Album podcast is available for your enjoyment….and I’m really happy with this one. For this episode, I present an interview I did with Chris Wilson on the 25th anniversary of his first album post-Crown of Thorns, Landlocked. Chris is a triple threat. He is among Australia’s greatest harmonica players (and has played on sessions for some of the greatest performers in Australian rock music). He has an incredible and distinctive baritone voice that can be mighty and booming or tender and gentle. Finally, he is the equal of any of the greatest songwriters in Australia with a gift for poetic but earthy lyrics and great melodies. If you’re a fan of Don Walker, Paul Kelly, or even Captain Beefheart or Tom Waits, you need to give Chris a listen. We spend some time talking about the 1992 album Landlocked, but also touch upon the Melbourne pub band scene of the era, his songwriting and blues heroes, and how Crowded House asked Chris to do something that invoked the displeasure of the great Vika Bull. Download the show to find out what it was. Eric Reanimator returns with his “Album I Love” segment to hip you to the country side of The Groovie Ghoulies in their guise as The Haints. He talks about their 2004 album Hurt & Alone. I hope you enjoy episode 99…..that’s one less than episode 100….which is next month….just puttin’ that out there…. You can download the show by searching for Love That Album in the iTunes store or downloading streaming directly from http://lovethatalbum.blogspot.com. Send the show feedback at rrrkitchen@yahoo.com.au (written or mp3 voicemail) or join the Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/groups/lovethatalbum If you enjoy what you hear, please tell a friend or ten to tune in.

Click here to download this episode! Episode 15 is out of order! Normally the first Monday of each month is dedicated to an interview episode. However, this month's interview has been slightly delayed, so rather than post an interview late, I decided to switch this month's episodes around. So, for episode 15, you get a new radio episode, and episode 16 will feature an interview. Hopefully things will be back to normal after that, with another interview for episode 17 and a radio episode for 18. 01:24 - "Public Radio" by Good Luck, from Into Lake Griffy 05:35 - "Sidewalk Girl" by Premise Beach, from At Promise Beach 08:27 - "Blah Blah Jet-Skis Blah Blah Blah" by Partners In 818, from A Well Lit Place For Shady People 11:05 - "Island of Pogo Pogo" by Groovie Ghoulies, from World Contact Day 13:10 - "Mercury Sables, Picnic Tables" by Like Claws!, from Prints And Things 15:45 - "An Open Documentation of Recent Events" by The Taxpayers, from Exhilarating News 20:14 - "Stick Around" by Agatha, from Panic Attack 22:05 - "Let Us Get Murdered" by Andrew Jackson Jihad, from the Ghost Mice / Andrew Jackson Jihad split
