Welcome to the Wednesday Weekly Win, our business breakthrough story series. Each week, we sit down with real entrepreneurs from our Business By Design community who are building digital businesses and creating results that once felt impossible. Today, Jenni is joined by Megan Blacksmith, an NLP trainer and certifier who has built not one, but TWO multiple 6-figure businesses inside BBD. She started in women's hormone and brain health coaching, hit a $150,000 goal in 45 days, and then pivoted her entire business around a tool she originally discovered for personal reasons. Megan shares how she turned a zero-sale launch into one of her most effective entry-point offers, built a ladder of live events and certifications that feed seamlessly into each other, and learned that the real ceiling on her revenue had nothing to do with her marketing. Plus, we get into the mindset shifts that changed everything, and why the entrepreneurs who win are usually just the ones willing to keep showing up and repeat what works. This is another real story of clarity, momentum, and the breakthroughs that happen when you finally stop guessing and start following a proven path. From first digital products to 6-figure launches, to building audiences and scaling systems, every conversation reveals the mechanics of what actually creates growth in a digital business. Because when you see someone just a few steps ahead of what you're doing, something powerful happens. James's biggest free training of the year is right around the corner… The Business Breakthrough Experience - and the first live training kicks off June 11th. And in the weeks leading up to it, we're creating even more opportunities for you to get the coaching, clarity, and momentum your business truly deserves. Starting this June, we're hosting a special series of live panels featuring incredible Digital CEOs—like Megan—who are in it, doing it, and ready to share what's actually working right now. These aren't just sit-back-and-watch sessions… You'll be able to join us live on Zoom, ask your questions, and get real-time coaching from experts who have been exactly where you are. And the best way to make sure you don't miss a single one? Register for The Business Breakthrough Experience. You'll be the first to know about every panel, every opportunity to get coached, and every new Wednesday Weekly Win episode—so you can stay inspired, take action, and keep moving forward.
Today’s episode is a special rebroadcast of one of my all-time favorite conversations on the B.rad Podcast! Every so often, I like to revisit episodes that made a profound impact on me personally and delivered tremendous value to listeners, and this conversation with Thais Gibson is absolutely one of those episodes. I am so pleased to introduce a fantastically awesome show with Thais Gibson, creator of the Personal Development School! When Thais first sent me an overview of what she wanted to discuss, I thought, "Sure, let's talk about it." But I have to tell you, I was completely blown away. This became one of my favorite shows I have ever recorded. Listeners, I truly believe this episode has the potential to be life-changing. I know it was for me. It probably helped that I unknowingly became the guinea pig for much of the conversation. What you'll hear is essentially a live coaching session where Thais demonstrates her expertise and methods using real-life examples from my own experiences—particularly the disconnect between my stated goals and some of my behavior patterns. We focused on the pursuit of wealth and financial security, an area where I occasionally feel frustrated or deficient, perhaps because of subconscious patterns operating beneath the surface. Thais explains the causes of self-sabotage and how to reprogram limiting thought patterns. One of the most fascinating parts of the discussion is when she explains that we're operating from our conscious mind only about three to five percent of the time. If you're someone who listens to podcasts, reads books, and continually educates yourself, your conscious mind may be doing a great job acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to succeed. But your subconscious needs and programming can still interfere and pull you off course. So in this episode, it's time for Brad to get processed, dig deep, and explore what's really happening when self-sabotage kicks in. Thais Gibson is a counselor, bestselling author of Learning Love, and co-founder of the Personal Development School. She holds a Ph.D. and more than 13 certifications in modalities including CBT, NLP, somatic experiencing, Internal Family Systems, shadow work, and hypnosis. After nearly a decade running a successful private practice, she founded The Personal Development School—an online learning platform designed to provide a more accessible and authentic way for people to transform their lives. In fact, after we finished this recording, I enrolled immediately. I encourage you to visit her website and explore what she offers. She offers a test run where you can see what it’s all about—check it out at personaldevelopmentschool.com. Enjoy this special rebroadcast with Thais Gibson! TIMESTAMPS: People may not always be aware that they are self-sabotaging because it usually occurs at a subconscious level. [00:53] Your conscious mind is responsible for roughly 3 to 5 percent of all of your beliefs, thoughts, emotions, and actions or decisions. Your subconscious is responsible for 95 to 97 percent. [04:48] We all have subconscious personality needs. [07:54] Thais uses Brad as an example to unpack what needs it relates to. She asks first, what does he do in his spare time? [09:34] Where does he spend his money? What does he like to learn about? [12:10] Our subconscious mind is also the host of all of our limiting beliefs. [19:46] There is a tool for how to pull up what your limiting beliefs are. [21:42] We're scared of something that's hidden in the periphery at a subconscious level of mind [24:29] Reconditioning is a tool for reprogramming. [26:25] Thais identifies characteristics of people who have been in a relationship with a narcissist. [30:41] Look for the things that trigger you. Plan your limiting belief and use its opposite. [33:02] Step one: What is your core belief and its opposite? Step two: what are 10 memories to support? They can be recent memories, really old memories, doesn't matter. 10 memories to support this new idea about yourself. I am, in fact, good enough. Step three: listen back for 21 days. [34:17] When thinking about financial security, many people struggle with their subconscious as in feeling they don’t deserve it or some parts of society that have a distaste for the inequitable distribution of wealth. [43:10] There are seven areas of life that need attention. Career, financial, mental, emotional, spiritual, physical and relationship. To ignore one area, we will pay for it later. [52:45] What specific things or set of things are you going to do on a daily basis to reprogram? [59:13] So much futile energy and effort toward change without addressing these core issues is going to be tough. [01:06:13] LINKS: Brad Kearns.com BradNutrition.com - 20% OFF Your First Order! Keeping Your Sh*t Together in a Stressed World with Michelle & Scott
Episode 317 - “Ending Things Well”Not every ending has to become a disaster to matter deeply. Some endings arrive quietly. A relationship changes. A chapter closes. A role, routine, or version of life comes to an end. And often, what stays with us most is not just that something ended… but how it ended. In this episode, Michelle and Scott explore the emotional complexity of endings—why they affect us so deeply, why people often avoid them or handle them poorly, and what it means to bring honesty, care, and clarity into the closing of something meaningful. This isn't about making endings painless. It's about understanding that closure is less about perfection… and more about the way we leave each other when something can no longer continue.Keeping Your Sh*t Together in a Stressed World is a podcast hosted by Michelle Post, MA, LMFT and Scott Grossberg, JD, CLC, CCH, NLP, and is 30 minutes of raw, irreverent, and results-oriented discussion with one purpose in mind . . . to help you cope, thrive, and survive the craziness that's going on in the world. As a reminder, our “Get Your Sh*t Together” Home Retreat can be found here:http://thinkingmagically.com/retreatReplays of prior episodes can be found at:https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/scott-grossbergYou can also join our Facebook group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/keepingystMichelle Post can be reached at michelle@postinternationalinc.com http://postinternationalinc.com Scott Grossberg can be reached at sgrossberg@hotmail.com https://www.thinkingmagically.com© ℗ 2026 Scott Grossberg & Michelle Post. What if you could think like the world's toughest human? Not admire it from a distance. Not read about it. Actually run the same internal patterns — the beliefs, the strategies, the way he processes doubt, discomfort, and the voice that says stop. That's what this episode is.One of the foundational ideas in NLP is that anything any human being can do can be elicited, modelled, and replicated. If you can identify how someone thinks at their best — the structure beneath the performance — you can hand that as a shortcut to anyone willing to step into it.Success leaves clues. Hypnosis is how we install them.In this first Modelling Excellence Monday session, Adam takes seven core principles from the philosophy of David Goggins — retired Navy SEAL, ultramarathon world record holder, and one of the most followed voices on mental toughness on the planet — and builds a deep hypnosis session around them so you can begin running those same patterns from the inside out.The Seven Principles Modelled in This Session:The 40% Rule — When your mind says stop, you're only 40% of the way thereThe Accountability Mirror — Brutal honesty with yourself, no excuses, no storiesCallous the Mind — Discomfort is not the enemy, it is the training groundThe Cookie Jar — Pull strength from everything you've already survivedTake Souls — Use doubt and disbelief as fuelBuild the Savage — Motivation is unreliable; discipline is the system that runs when it isn'tNever Finished — The quest for greatness is unendingHow to Use This EpisodeFind somewhere quiet, put your headphones in, and give yourself 45 minutes where you won't be disturbed. Lying down is fine. Eyes closed. Just follow Adam's voice. You don't need to believe it will work. You just need to show up.Who Should Adam Model Next?Modelling Excellence Monday is built on one idea: anyone in the world who achieves something extraordinary is running a set of internal patterns that can be identified, extracted, and handed to you.Who inspires you? Who do you watch and think — I don't just want to admire that, I want to understand how they think?Nominate your person — an athlete, entrepreneur, scientist, philosopher, artist, anyone — and Adam may build a future hypnosis session around them and their area of excellence.
In this episode, Leslie sits down with brand coach, creative director, and podcast host Raquel Furman to explore the connection between authenticity, alignment, personal storytelling, and lasting transformation. Raquel shares her 20-year journey from photography and creative work to helping entrepreneurs uncover the deeper meaning behind their brands. Together, they discuss how authenticity has become a buzzword and why true alignment comes from understanding your own experiences rather than looking outside yourself for answers. The conversation dives into the power of personal stories and how our life experiences become our credibility. Raquel explains how the most effective marketing isn't about polished messaging or perfect branding it's about clearly communicating the truth of who you are and why you do what you do. Leslie relates this to her work helping clients heal food and weight struggles, emphasizing how alignment with your authentic self often creates positive changes in health, relationships, and business. Leslie and Raquel also discuss human design, energy management, and recognizing when you're operating out of alignment. They explore common patterns such as abandoning healthy routines during stressful periods, overworking to solve emotional discomfort, and using food or productivity as coping mechanisms. The key, they explain, is developing awareness without judgment and becoming curious about what your behaviors are trying to communicate. The episode concludes with an empowering discussion about perfectionism, flexibility, and leadership. Both women share how releasing the need to be perfect allowed them to grow successful businesses and help more people. They encourage listeners to embrace imperfection, trust their experiences, and remember that meaningful transformation often comes from showing up authentically rather than waiting until everything feels ready. Standout Quote "Your experience is your credibility. That story that you have is all the proof that's needed. You're like, 'I know because I walked it.'" Everything Life Coaching: The Positive Psychology and Science Behind Coaching
In this episode, Noelle Cordeaux sits down with Tobias Weghorn — co-founder of metaFox and host of the Making of a Coach podcast — to unpack emotional granularity: the skill of moving from "I feel like sh*t" to "I feel lonely, because my need for connection isn't met," and why that shift is where real change begins. Coming from an engineering background and grounded in systemic NLP, mindfulness, and strengths psychology, Tobi shows how metaFox's picture and emotion cards give coaches a low-friction way to help clients go deep, fast. In this episode, you'll learn: Why a bigger emotional vocabulary makes feelings actionable The two levels of EQ: having the words, and feeling it in your body The "third object effect"... why clients reveal more when they talk about an image instead of themselves What to reach for when a client keeps saying "I don't know" Want to try the tools? “Dad, when’s the last time you unplugged for four or five weeks?” That was my son. Right before he left to run our training in Denver. And I told him. It’s been years. Now I’ll openly admit. I coach. I teach. I run a business. I host webinars. Even when I say I’m “off,” I’m still working. If your work is taking care of other people, you probably know what I mean. In this week’s check-in from Hawaii, I’m talking about something most high-functioning people refuse to face. People use “I’m too busy helping everyone else” as a way to avoid working on themselves. We just wrapped our NLP Practitioner Training in Houston, and this kept surfacing with the assistants and the team. What about me? What about me? Not in a selfish way. In a harmonious way. Look, morning sets the tone. Water. Nature. A few quiet minutes that belong to you. These small foundational things are what let you show up well for everyone else. Most people skip them and wonder why nothing feels solid. So I’m taking some real downtime here. And I’ll be coming to you every week from here. What’s one small thing you could do today that helps you show up better for the people who need you? Subscribe and I’ll see you next week. Aloha. You can be successful and still feel wasted, and that's where reinvention starts. We talk with Jay Sargent, entrepreneur, coach, speaker, and author of Shift: The Gift of Reinvention, about what it really takes to change your life when you're burned out, stuck, or quietly wondering if your best years already passed. Jay isn't selling a fantasy. He's lived the pivots, seven times, and he's honest about the fear, the grief, and the discomfort that comes with starting over. Jay breaks down the patterns behind career change and midlife reinvention: why titles don't define you, why “no small moments” can redirect your entire future, and how a simple 15-minute ask to the right people can open doors you didn't know existed. We also dig into why credentials are overrated, how real selling is just rapport and clarity, and how NLP reshaped the way Jay thinks about communication, relationships, and helping people move from hesitation to action. Then we go deeper with stories that hit you in the gut and raise your standards at the same time, including his grandmother finding love at 92 and a 90-plus-year-old who keeps a yearly growth and development budget. If you're in your 40s, 50s, 60s, or 70s and you feel “too late,” this conversation offers practical steps: do a personal inventory, name what you're good at, and build a simple path from skill to business to freedom. My first book came from 15-minute morning writing sprints in a notepad before I even brushed my teeth. This second one makes me cry almost every time I open it. That's probably the best way I can explain why writing it has been so completely different, and why I wanted to bring you into that process right now, while I'm still in it. I'm currently writing my second book. I have an agent, I have a deadline I gave myself, and I have a story I feel so much weight around that I can barely open the document without crying. That's where I am right now, and I figured if 82% of Americans want to write a book, I might as well pull back the curtain on what this process actually looks like. This episode is about how I'm actually making it work, what I've had to learn about deep work versus shallow work, why external accountability is the only reason any of my biggest goals have ever happened, and why this book, about my ancestors and what they survived so I could be here, feels like the most important thing I've ever tried to do. IN THIS EPISODE: Why 82% of Americans want to write a book and almost none of them do The difference between the writing that runs your business and the deep work a book actually requires Tony Robbins' urgent versus important framework and how it explains exactly why your book keeps losing to your inbox Why I write my second book at 9:30pm after dinner instead of during work hours The Katyn massacre, my great uncle, and what I found in the historical research that confirmed stories I had heard my whole life Why I cry almost every single time I open this manuscript How to use force functions to finally make the thing happen that you keep saying you'll do someday What a book proposal actually is, and what the traditional publishing timeline really looks like If you have a book on your heart that you keep putting off, this one is going to feel very familiar. Keeping Your Sh*t Together in a Stressed World with Michelle & Scott
Episode 316 - “Why Advice Rarely Helps (Even When It's Good Advice)”Sometimes people give us genuinely good advice… and we still can't take it. Not because we're stubborn. Not because we don't understand it. But because insight and readiness are not always the same thing. In this episode, Michelle and Scott explore why advice often fails to create real change—even when it's thoughtful, accurate, and well-intentioned. They talk about timing, emotional readiness, nervous system resistance, and the difference between intellectually knowing something and being able to live it. This isn't about rejecting advice. It's about understanding why change is often more emotional than logical—and why people usually move when they're finally ready, not simply when they've been told what to do.Keeping Your Sh*t Together in a Stressed World is a podcast hosted by Michelle Post, MA, LMFT and Scott Grossberg, JD, CLC, CCH, NLP, and is 30 minutes of raw, irreverent, and results-oriented discussion with one purpose in mind . . . to help you cope, thrive, and survive the craziness that's going on in the world. Adam helps a client release shame and reclaim their confident and empowered identity. Adam helps release the historical shame for deep emotional healing.
Adam helps a client to lose weight by perceiving food as fuel, freedom, and medicine, rather than just a source of pleasure and gratification. A useful session if you want to lose weight by focusing on the benefits of eating well rather than missing out on pleasure.
Adam helps a client accept themselves fully and to finally lift the curse of their unworthiness. Adam uses a fairlytale metaphor and nested loops for a deeper experience to make changes as the identity level.
Adam helps a client feel worthy of the high levels of success they have experienced, and to maintain his high standards, while releasing the anxiety that historically helped with those high standards. Adam uses a botanical metaphor for this client.
How has your meditation practice shifted and changed since you first took it up? Please join this conversation with Stephen Josephs, who shares how his mediation has evolved over 60 years of daily practice. As one of the leaders in the Kundalini Yoga tradition at it's peak in the west, Stephen was a devoted practitioner in what he calls the 'fire practices,' willful and powerful practices that can dramatically change one's state. But after many years of dedicated effort, the fire started to go out. His practice evolved into what he calls the 'water practices' - techniques and attentional strategies that are more about dissolving the sense of a separate self. In this conversation he shares some of the essential elements of the water practices and we explore that gnarly question: What it is that is actually dissolving? You'll come away with some key insights from a depth practitioner and a taste of how the dissolving practices might be of benefit to you. With over 60 years of daily meditation practice, Stephen Josephs, Ed.D., brings a wealth of wisdom to his work. His expertise spans a diverse array of mind-body systems—including yoga, tai chi, and qigong—as well as specialized training in NLP, psychodrama, and body-centered psychotherapy. This breadth of experience fosters an open-hearted approach that helps students quickly realize the benefits of mindfulness. For the past 40 years, Stephen has focused on leadership development, integrating meditation as a core pillar for executive growth. He is also the co-author of Leadership Agility, a definitive study on how leaders mature and expand their capacity to lead. Lian and hypnotherapist and changework facilitator James Tripp on where pattern-based change meets its ceiling, what Jungian individuation and NLP have to say to each other, and why the most resistant clients may be the ones most in need of a reconnection to soul. James Tripp is an internationally recognised authority in the fields of self development, personal mastery and generative changework. Coming from a diverse background including philosophy, music, martial arts, movement culture and NLP, James is also the developer of the Hypnosis Without Trance approach to hypnotic facilitation as well as author of the critically acclaimed book of the same title. In his one-to-one work, James works with individuals looking to become better adapted in consistently creating outcomes they value and living lives they love. Since turning professional in 2007 his clients have included artists, filmmakers, entrepreneurs and business creators, c-suite executives, actors and performers, frontline services operatives, medical doctors, writers, special forces operatives and military veterans. In this episode, Lian and James begin with "doomer optimism," a genuine belief that radical change is not only inevitable but potentially the very thing that makes us more alive and more human. They look at what it costs people to build a life around patterns that are functional in the world but out of resonance with who they truly are, and why that gap, which might show up as numbness, burnout, or a vague sense that something's missing, tends to compound under pressure. From there the conversation moves into territory that doesn't always make it into change-work: soul, and what it takes to bring that word into a room full of police officers without losing them, and why, in James' experience, even the most practical people tend to respond when someone gives them permission to look in that direction. There's something here about nourishment rather than healing, about arcs of becoming rather than things to fix, and about where ancient ways of knowing, shamanism, Taoism, the Kabbalah, still carry genuine usefulness in a world that has largely forgotten them. Listen if you've been doing this work, in yourself or with others, long enough to sense that changing our patterns is only part of the story. We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment wherever you are listening or in any of our other spaces to engage. What you'll learn from this episode: - Why changing patterns can take you a long way but still leave you feeling like the nut has been removed from the shell - How soul connection shows up differently depending on the room you're in, and why James rarely uses that language the same way twice - What Jung's private admission near the end of his life, that he had failed at his principal task, reveals about how long it takes for a seed to become a fruit tree Resources and stuff that we spoke about: - Visit James's website (https://www.jamestripp.co.uk/). - James's Linktree (https://linktr.ee/jamestripp) - Join UNIO, The Community for Wild Sovereign Souls: (https://www.unioacademy.com/) This is for the old souls in this new world… Discover your kin & unite with your soul's calling to truly live your myth. Rachel McElreath is 28 years old, graduated from the 5x Certification, and has already lived more lives than most people do in a lifetime. She started drinking at 15, Halloween night in Atlanta, a bottle of Hennessy handed to her by a friend, parents in crisis at home, and spent the next decade building a life that looked fine from the outside and was quietly falling apart underneath. She held jobs, went to college, went to beauty school. She also worked bottle service in Dallas, dated men who weren't available, and kept ignoring an inner voice that was getting louder by the year. The thing that finally made her stop wasn't a gradual awakening. It was a phone call from her doctor in late 2023 telling her she was one stage away from cervical cancer. That week, she left the relationship she was in. A few weeks later, she quit drinking and made the decision to be celibate, both at the same time. She spent 2024 meeting herself for the first time, rebuilding from almost nothing, and figuring out who she actually was without alcohol, without men, and without the nightlife identity she had built her entire social world around. Now she coaches women through that same process, not just getting sober, but building a life they're actually excited to wake up to. This conversation goes places a lot of podcast episodes don't. We talk about HPV and cervical cancer, three abortions in one year, sexual assault, trauma bonding, and what it actually feels like to realize that the shame you've been carrying isn't yours to keep. Rachel shares all of it without flinching, and that's exactly what makes her work so powerful. IN THIS EPISODE: Starting to drink at 15 when home didn't feel safe, and how that one decision shaped the next decade Working bottle service while her body was sending her signals she kept overriding The phone call from her doctor and what she decided in the weeks that followed Why she quit alcohol and went celibate at the same time, and what two and a half years of that has actually been like The loneliness of dissolving an entire identity and why 2024 was somehow still the best year of her life What she sees shifting in the younger generation around alcohol, and why she's genuinely excited about it LINKS/RESOURCES MENTIONED Follow Rachel on Instagram. Every relationship problem, lost deal, and leadership failure traces back to one thing: communication. Not surface level small talk, but the ability to make another person feel genuinely understood. In this episode Jeremy Miner sits down with Reg Malhotra, Founder and CEO of Neuro Masters Academy and board certified master trainer in NLP and hypnotherapy. Together they break down why the need to be right kills influence, how tonality changes whether someone gets defensive or drops their guard, the "meet people where they are" principle that applies to parenting, sales, and marriage, and specific linguistic patterns that get people to open up and tell you the truth. Keeping Your Sh*t Together in a Stressed World with Michelle & Scott
Episode 315 - “Highly Sensitive People -- People Who Feel Too Much in a World That Feels Too Loud”Some people move through the world with their emotional volume turned all the way up. They notice subtle shifts. They absorb tension in a room. They feel deeply, think deeply, and often become overwhelmed by environments that others seem to navigate easily. In this episode, Michelle and Scott explore what it means to be a highly sensitive person in a world that often rewards numbness, speed, and constant stimulation. They talk about emotional intensity, overstimulation, empathy, nervous system sensitivity, and the quiet exhaustion that can come from feeling “too much” for too long. This isn't about labeling sensitivity as weakness. It's about understanding it differently—and learning how sensitivity can become something to work with rather than something to hide from.Keeping Your Sh*t Together in a Stressed World is a podcast hosted by Michelle Post, MA, LMFT and Scott Grossberg, JD, CLC, CCH, NLP, and is 30 minutes of raw, irreverent, and results-oriented discussion with one purpose in mind . . . to help you cope, thrive, and survive the craziness that's going on in the world. In this episode of the Digital Rapport® Podcast, I share the personal story behind why I chose to help coaches grow their businesses instead of becoming a coach myself. After starting my career in the corporate world with companies like Tetley Tea and Sun Microsystems, my passion for personal development led me into the worlds of NLP, hypnosis, emotional intelligence, and life coaching. But one powerful conversation changed the direction of my career forever.I realised that many talented coaches struggled not because they lacked skill or passion, but because they lacked the marketing systems, technology, and business infrastructure needed to grow successfully online. That insight led me to combine my background in IT and technology with my passion for personal development — helping coaches, consultants, authors, and experts build scalable online businesses through funnels, automation, email marketing, and digital strategy. In this episode, I talk about:• How I got started in the coaching industry• The moment that changed my perspective on coaching• Learning from mentors like Janet Schweitzer and Ron Holland• The early days of online funnels and email marketing• Why technology overwhelms many coaches• Building systems that help experts scale online• Merging passion, business, and technology into one missionIf you're a coach, consultant, entrepreneur, or expert trying to grow your business online, this episode offers valuable insights into the strategy and systems that support long-term growth.#CoachingBusiness #DigitalMarketing #PersonalDevelopment #OnlineBusiness #Funnels #MarketingAutomationhttps://www.digitalrapportpodcast.com

This week I'm doing something a little different. Just me sharing what's been on my heart after celebrating my mom's 80th birthday. My husband spent four nights making 200 handmade pierogi from scratch to surprise her. I put together a slideshow of almost every photo that exists of her life, black and white photos of a little girl in postwar Warsaw, all the way through to the woman she is today, who still swims in the ocean every chance she gets and has more trips planned than I do. And going through all of those photos, I just kept thinking about what it actually took for her to build this life. My parents were born into a Poland that was still being rebuilt after World War II, where the Soviets came in as soon as the Nazis left, where my grandparents had a business the Communist party seized, took the profits, left them the debts. Where waiting ten years for your own apartment was just normal. Where people stood in ration lines for bread that wasn't there. And somehow, in the middle of all of that, my mom had this quiet knowing that she would one day live in the United States. Even while communist propaganda was telling her how horrible it was. She just knew. This episode is about her. But honestly, it ended up being about legacy: what our parents and ancestors carried so we could have the lives we have today. IN THIS EPISODE: The moment Karolina's mom decided they weren't going back to Poland and how that decision changed our entire lives How my parents defected from Poland during Poland's martial law: where the government was at war with its own citizens. What the first years in the United States actually looked like: trying to find work, not speaking the language and the recessions that almost took them out The slide show that went through 80 years of my mom's life set to Polish classical music and what it felt like to watch it with her Why I think my mom is the visionary of our family, and what I've inherited from that If you've ever thought about the shoulders you're standing on — this one is for you.
