Join Discourse and contribute to the Spotlight, and join the conversation - a small monthly donation gets you membership to our community, and that allows you to drive discussion around these shows, and get even more value and insight from what other listeners are sharing.Show notesIn Spotlight this week, we look back at a packed weekend of sports action and offer insights on the big events. We kick it off with the AFL (1:39), where the Grand Final was played, and where listener Josh sent in an article exploring how the body shape and size of players have evolved over the years. Gareth wonders whether the players adapt to the game, or whether the game adapts to the athleticism of its players, and Ross explains the physiological equivalent of 'form follows function'.Then we move to Rugby (9:56), where England were crowned World Champions at the weekend, crowing an unbeaten World Cup cycle in which they've averaged 50 points a match and not lost a single match. The final wasn't exactly smooth sailing, and Gareth and Ross share some thoughts on what impressed us, and where Canada may have fallen short, with hopes for continued growth in the game. From Rugby to cycling for a brief last look back at the Rwanda World Champs (23:10), but where off-bike news in the form of the UCI back-pedal on handlebar widths and other policy changes are the main focus of conversation.Cycling gives way to golf (38:48), and the Ryder Cup, which looked like a foregone conclusion until it wasn't, and one of the year's great sports spectacles unfolded in New York. We learn how Europe used data analytics and simulations to optimize its foursome and fourball combinations, and wonder when data becomes a hinderance as opposed to a helper in sport? In response to a spate of serious ACL injuries in the NFL and in football (51:58), Gareth wonders whether something is happening, perhaps related to the training and conditioning of athletes, or the turf, to increase ACL injury risk? Ross is less sure, explaining how rare injuries can throw up misleading 'patterns', compounded by media bias.We wrap up with some doping stories (55:52), including the CAS decision in the case of Erriyon Knighton, who was initially cleared of doping when he was able to show contamination of an oxtail meal he consumed. But CAS didn't see it the same way, and he got a four year ban because of their interpretation of the pharmacokinetics and the relative levels of the banned substance in the oxtial compared to in his urine. We also go to Kenya, where an athlete admitted not only to taking EPO, but explaining how he obtained it. Whether it's a truthful account is anyone's guess. And finally (1:03:16), the NFL came to (Dublin) town last weekend, and the juxtaposition of some high profile rugby players and the NFL kicked off a conversation comparing the two sports. We end with a semi lighthearted look at the helmet and pad culture of American Football, and offer thoughts on why rugby's lack of protective equipment doesn't necessarily make it more dangerous.LinksTaller, leaner, faster AFL playersYou can read the Knighton CAS decision hereNo Laying Up Golf Analytics Podcast Hosted on Acast. États-Unis-Afrique: la politique commerciale de Donald Trump va-t-elle signer la fin de l'Agoa?

    Aujourd'hui l'économie

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 30, 2025 3:34

In this episode, Richard Kainika (Kenya Association of Waste Recyclers), David Ongare (National Environment Management Authority), and Hanna Dittmeyer (AHK Services Eastern Africa Ltd) share how Kenya is building circular systems from the ground up through informal networks, selective regulation, and everyday business ingenuity. But challenges remain, especially in waste infrastructure and electronic waste management. In this episode of Unapologetically Me, Heather Blankenship sits down with Kelsey Dickinson, a fearless serial entrepreneur whose journey is anything but ordinary. Kelsey shares how she and her husband bought their first business just six months into marriage, built systems to grow and sell companies, and why the hardest year of their lives pushed them to walk away from it all. That decision led to a new chapter of freedom: homeschooling their kids, traveling the world, living in Kenya, and creating a life on their own terms. Today, Kelsey is passionate about helping the next generation build resilience and entrepreneurial skills through her company, CEO Kid. How far can a story travel — and how much can it change? In this episode, Bridget Deacon, Managing Director of Shujaaz,  Emmy Winner and leading B Corp, explains how youth‑first storytelling moves beyond entertainment to shape behaviour, unlock livelihoods, and shift social norms across Kenya. From radio, print and TV to social media and an AI‑enabled chatbot, Shujaaz meets young people where they are, surfaces their lived realities without judgement, and turns authentic voices into collective action. We discuss: designing with youth rather than for them; what it takes to build trust in an age of misinformation; why tackling livelihoods, reproductive health, gender norms and climate action requires sustained, multi‑platform narratives; and how a B Corp model helps a mission stay accountable and scalable. Bridget also shares practical lessons on devolving creation and research to local youth leaders, and how small, relatable stories can trigger system‑level change. A candid, hopeful conversation about narrative power, measurable impact, and a generation writing its own rule book.

This Kenyan Missionary Trip 2025 Update will hopefully inform you about our two-month's work here in Kenya. Since we've been here, much work has been completed on behalf some of the widows of Kehancha and Kisii, all of which I detail in this update for you. Nevertheless, there remains so much more to do in the remaining 3-1/2 months we're here. We invite you to take a listen and hopefully you will be led to support this ministry to help lift the souls of some of Kenya's most disenfranchised and discarded individuals: the widows. Torah instructs us to not neglect either the widow or the orphan. Thus, it is our job as Messianics/Nazarene Israelites to do our best to tend to them and help them overcome their plight. qumranfamilyfoundation.org Shalom.

Send us fan responses! The veil between what we think we know about America and the legal reality of the United States Corporation is thinner than most realize. Don Kalam peels back this veil with precision and clarity, offering listeners a roadmap to understanding their true legal position and the opportunities that come with this knowledge. At the heart of this eye-opening discussion lies a fundamental distinction: America is the land, the republic; the United States is a legally defined federal corporation (28 USC 3002(15)(A)). This isn't semantic wordplay—it's a crucial legal framework that determines how we interact with government, commerce, and wealth creation. When Donald Trump says "Make America Great Again," he's specifically referencing the republic, not the corporation—a distinction with profound implications.Your state represents your true nation or country, which explains terms like "nationality." Don Kalam draws fascinating parallels between tribal affiliations in countries like Kenya (with over 40 distinct tribes) and private communities in America. The Amish, religious groups, and various organizations function essentially as tribes with their own governance structures. This tribal understanding is key to recognizing how private life operates parallel to the public system. The birth certificate—printed on security paper similar to car titles—represents your entry into a commercial jurisdiction. By using social security numbers and birth certificates as identity in commerce, most Americans unknowingly pledge their labor against the national debt. When you die with assets tied to your social security number, everything must pass through probate, with the government taking its cut first. The alternative? Operating through private trusts, unincorporated associations, and other private structures that allow you to function outside many codes and statutes. Article 1, Section 10 of the Constitution guarantees your right to contract—the foundation of private law that enables communities from the Amish to various religious groups to maintain their independence from government regulation.Ready to reclaim your financial sovereignty and create true generational wealth? For many children, going barefoot isn't a choice—it's a daily struggle that puts their health, safety, and future at risk. But one pair of shoes can change that story.Today, we'll hear how Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls is bringing hope and dignity to vulnerable children around the world. Shawn Spurrier joins us to share how God is changing lives through something as ordinary—and extraordinary—as shoes.Shawn Spurrier is the Director of Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls at Buckner International, an underwriter of Faith & Finance. A Mission That Began in DallasBuckner Shoes for Orphan Souls started in 1999 as a local effort in Dallas, Texas, to serve children in Russian orphanages. Over 25 years later, God has expanded this work into a global ministry. Today, more than 5 million children in 86 countries have received shoes through the generosity of churches, businesses, and believers across the U.S.What began as a small act of compassion has grown into a worldwide movement of hope.More Than Shoes: Health, Safety, and EducationAround 300 million children worldwide lack access to shoes. This barrier affects nearly every aspect of life:Health—Shoes prevent footborne diseases, many of which carry social stigma and long-term consequences.Education—In many countries, shoes are required for school attendance. Without them, children are forced to stay home, trapped in cycles of poverty.Hope—Receiving shoes as a gift in Jesus' name opens hearts to the Gospel and connects families with life-changing ministries.Shoes are more than fabric and rubber—they are a bridge to dignity, opportunity, and transformation.Restoring Dignity for FamiliesFor many of us, buying new shoes for back-to-school is routine. But in parts of the world where Buckner serves, parents may spend months saving to afford just one pair—or go without entirely. Some families must rotate a single pair of shoes between siblings, deciding who can attend school on a given day.The gift of shoes restores dignity to parents, enabling them to provide for their children and giving kids the confidence to learn, grow, and thrive.Global Reach and Local ImpactBuckner's ministry extends both globally and locally:United States—Shoe distributions in Texas, including for families affected by flooding.Latin America—Serving children in Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Honduras, and Peru.Africa—Programs in Ethiopia and Kenya.Beyond—Partnerships have extended Buckner's reach into 75+ additional countries.Every pair of shoes opens the door to broader ministry. Family Hope Centers offer resources, education, and Christ-centered training, bringing lasting transformation to entire communities. How You Can JoinTogether, we're striving to provide 1,000 children with shoes, socks, and the message of God's love.$15 provides one child with shoes and socks.$150 equips ten children.Visit GiveShoesToday.org to make your gift and bring hope to a child in need.Shoes may seem ordinary, but in the life of a child, they are extraordinary. They represent safety, opportunity, dignity, and above all, the love of Christ. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'm 40 and have several old 401(k) accounts from past employers. Send us a textKen welcomes Washington political commentator, speechwriter, and author Peter Wehner. Pete is a contributing writer at The Atlantic and a senior fellow at the Trinity Forum. He is well known for his prolific contribution to the intersection of politics, public policy, and faith. Early on, he identified as a conservative, a Republican, and an Evangelical. From 2011, when Donald Trump campaigned to challenge the legitimacy of the Obama Presidency, suggesting that he was born in Kenya and not the U.S.A., Wehner has called out the danger of a Trump presidency. Pete has been a stalwart in opposing Donald Trump and in the process, he no longer identifies as a Republican or an Evangelical. He remains a traditional conservative. However, he has offered a powerful and sustained critique of evangelical support for Donald Trump and a Republican Party that has become subservient to the newly elected President. Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson played a key role in that transition. Ken and Pete have a lively discussion over his early years as a new Christian, his college career, the influence of his scientist father, his move to Washington, Reagan's speech after the Challenger disaster, George Bush's 9/11 speech (Pete was in the White House that fateful day), and finally Donald Trump's complete take-over of the Republican Party and his return to the White House for a second term.
