For some time now, people have been looking at the word diet through a negative looking glass. The reason for this is that the word in the past decades has been associated directly with weight loss diets and how society has put pressure on many of us to look a certain way. However, the reality of it is that diet is simply the way we eat, our eating lifestyle for that matter. In this podcast, Noor Struik a low-carb nutritionist who has been collaborating with us for over 3 years, and Louisa Mesquita, our founder, talk about the low-carb diet and how they started following it because they weren't happy about the way their bodies felt. I think it's fair to say almost everyone has tried some kind of weight loss/weight gain diet at some point in their lives, however, whether it was successful in what you were trying to achieve or not, in our conversation we talk about everything else that goes underneath. From fatigue to loss of strength to nutrient deficiencies, dieting just for physique never has a positive outcome. Towards the end, we dive into ways to optimize our health once we've reached a point of having a better relationship with food, our body, and our mind. It's not about giving advice for all, but about learning how to hear your body and look out for signs so you can constantly be helping yourself become your best version. In this episode, Courtenay and Zane blend together two of this podcast's favorite topics: health and politics. With a deep-dive into the world of ‘Big Food', this conversation highlights the importance of prioritizing metabolic health to combat viruses and chronic illness. By reassessing consumption of processed foods and focusing on nutrient-dense, local sources, you can reduce overall inflammation and set yourself up for longevity. Foods really can serve as medicine! Zane Griggs has been a fitness trainer since 1998. He is well-known for his appearance on ABC's Extreme Weight Loss seasons 1 and 4, where he helped two participants reach their goal of losing half their body weight over the course of a year. He went on to write his first book, Low Carb Lifestyle & Weight Loss Made Simple, in 2019 to further share his extensive expertise with the world and now is the host of his own podcast Hunger Hunt Feast. Zane attributes his passion for weight loss and longevity to his wife and children, who motivate him to practice what he preaches and maintain optimal levels of health and fitness at any age... and he's here to share how you can, too! Thank you for tuning in for another episode of Life's Best Medicine. Joining the show today is founder of the Joyful Keto Life website, low-carb success story, author, speaker, joy seeker, and overall inspiring person, Christine Trimpe. Her weight loss success story has been featured in Reader's Digest, First for Women, Keto Over 50, Keto Food, and Diet Doctor. In their discussion, Brian and Christine talk about the gift of joy and rejoicing in the Lord, the meaning of Advent and the Advent season, the value and necessity of being in the Word daily if you are a Christian, the place and importance of prayer in sharing the joy of the Gospel of Christ, the destructiveness of envy as opposed to the wholesomeness/healthfulness of serving others in love, studies relating health and longevity to faith and spirituality, and Christine's new book (out now!). Life's Best Medicine According to Christine: “If you would go through the Gospel of Luke and get to know Jesus, that is some of life's best medicine.” Thank you for listening. Tune in today to learn about “The Gigi Approach” and how The Salmon Queen got her name and book. Learn more about stress, digestion, fitness, her go-to workouts, the difference between dirty keto, lazy keto and clean keto, and why we need to be eating more quality ingredients from the store. Read our full disclosure here. Cheryl McColgan: Welcome. So Gigi, I've read your bio obviously, but can you just share with people in your own words, how you came to this way of eating and some of a little bit of your past? I think you have some really interesting, things that you have done leading up to some health issues that you had, where you had to change the way that you ate. Gigi Ashworth: Uh, do you have like 15 hours? I don't think people wanna listen that long, but anyway. So when I was around 14 years old, I actually was at a boarding school for snowboarding. I used to competitively snowboard back in the day. Whoa. And now I'm like, oh, don't get me here in the mountains beause it's too cold! Anyways, so when I was doing that, I was exerting a lot of energy, and I started to really focus on how I was feeling and I wasn't feeling good. It's really funny how when you start to do a lot of physical activity, you take note of how your body feels, even at the young age of 14. I thought, there's something off, there's something not right here. How Gigi Discovered the Keto Diet I did physical activity before I was on the track team and all that kind of stuff. But I guess I just didn't really care, pay attention or I was like to you into wanting be popular. So when I was in boarding school, I was complaining to my mom about it, who actually has been doing the keto diet for the last 30 years or so. Yeah. She's been doing it for a long time as a doctor and she always wanted to be a nutritionist, but her father was like, no, you're gonna be an OBGYN. So that's what she wound up doing. Anyways, I was complaining to my mom and she sent me book that didn't have a book jacket or anything on it. And she was like, hey, just read this book.

Low-carb diets work. They are more effective at weight loss and reducing health conditions such as high blood sugar, high blood pressure, even fatty liver. Whether you call it ketogenic, carnivorous, Atkins' or other version of a low-carb diet, the majority of people experience substantial near-term health benefits. But there are some issues to be aware of to prevent the long-term health deteriorations that can develop from such lifestyles. This is why diet is powerful but not enough for genuine long-term health. You must therefore address common nutrient deficiencies that result from modern life, exposures to various toxins in your food and environment, and address your intestinal microbiome. Woman's Health & The Low Carb Lifestyle! - Pauline Cox
Sugar and carbs are everywhere and easy to eat. Neither are “bad,” but they are addictive and can be inflammatory. Since the American Dietetic Association came out with the horrible advice called the Food Pyramid advocating for a high carbohydrate diet Americans have become obese at alarming rates. Diseases related to over-fatness have risen significantly in concert with these recommendations. A low carb lifestyle helps combat the over-eating that is sparked by the high carb diet and consistent sugar intake. Today, low carb expert and host of Boundless Body Radio Casey Ruff gives our listeners simple tips to start on a low carb lifestyle. You can find more about Casey and the great work he does at www.myboundlessbody.com #lowcarb #lowcarblifestyle #keto #carnivore #eatfatgetlean

Corey Mordowski, “The KetoRucker”, joins The Fatty Joe Show today to share his unique brand of fitness. Corey ventures away from the hallowed halls of the gym and instead partakes in an activity called “rucking”, which is basically walking with a weighted pack on for time and distance. Corey is a physical therapy assistant by trade and is currently working on a doctorate in holistic health. He is an expert in functional movement as well as healing the body.Corey got into rucking for his own fitness and now works to share his passion for this fitness lifestyle to others. He even got your ever-loving host Yogi into it. Corey's day job is Physical Therapist Assistant, but his passion is health optimization, personal development, nutrition, and physical activity. When he first began his ketogenic journey Corey weighed over 300 pounds. At five foot nine inches tall Corey was what the Body Mass Index called Morbidly Obese. This label haunted Corey every time he would go to his physician's office for his annual physical, or when he would get the occasional sinus infection or random other ailment that he could not soldier through without the aid of a prescription.Over the years Corey tried many diets. Some would work for a time, but then the weight would come screaming back plus some extra. He tried Paleo, counted calories, juiced, and even went full vegan for a stretch of two to three years. Corey discovered keto, and thought “what do I have to lose?” So he began eating a ketogenic diet. At first it was nothing fancy, just lots of meat, eggs, heavy cream, butter, and cream cheese. Then something extraordinary happened; he lost weight. Not only did Corey lose weight, but he also did not feel like he was starving. Soon after Corey noticed skin conditions disappearing, aches and pains just evaporating, and his energy returning.⭐️To follow Corey Modrowski, check out the links below:

After being in the health coaching business for over a decade now I've noticed that one of the largest transformation danger zones is when you are on a journey to get healthy but your spouse, partner, or significant other is not. Today I'm bringing in my friends Roy and Sandra Ross to help us figure out the best way to get healthy TOGETHER. Roy Ross – Is a Certified Personal Trainer, Nutritionist, and a 20 year Army Veteran who's Soldiers affectionately call him "Colonel Keto" due to his open admiration for the Low-Carb Lifestyle. After falling out of shape and struggling to maintain military fitness standards, Roy now prides himself on being a model of physical fitness and helping others meet their fitness goals. Spending a lifetime developing the "Art of Leadership," Roy specializes in Balancing Empathy with Accountability, Building Primal Tribes, and Total Body Transformations. Sandra Ross – Is a Certified Personal Trainer, Nutritionist, and perhaps the World's Greatest Army Wife. Sandra believes that the key to success is supercharging your metabolism, and preparing your mind and body for the weight loss journey. Listen in as Roy, Sandra, and I discuss: How they work together as a couple on a health journey. How they encourage their children to be healthy. Their advice for couples that aren't on the same page when it comes to their health. A simple action step that a family can take to jumpstart their healthy momentum. Connect with Roy and Sandra: Website: https://ketokonduct.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ketokonduct/ Ready to work together? I've got two great options available: Apply for my 28 day one on one coaching program Schedule a 45 minute one on one "Get your shit together" strategy session.
How did the food pyramid become the gold standard for a healthy diet when there are so many flaws in the existing science? Ever wonder if the ketogenic lifestyle is right for you? How do you start, what are the benefits, what are the challenges? Who can you turn to for support and resources to help make your transition a smooth one? Pete Lieb talks with LowCarbUSA.org founder Douglas Reynolds and discusses how we got here as a society...with obesity, diabetes and chronic illness plaguing our world and straining our health care system and how we can recover, one person at a time. Episode 6 is a bit heavy-handed. First, I'd like to congratulate you on your Low-Carb journey thus far! If you're seeing results for yourself be very proud and enjoy reaping the benefits of this lifestyle! Now that you're seeing results you may be tempted to try and spread the love to other people you know. Proceed with caution! Most people will be defensive by nature and resistant to change. In this episode I'm advocating humility and leading by example over forcing your new found knowledge on the people you care for. Please check out my Patreon page and consider subscribing for some cool thank yous:https://www.patreon.com/lowcarbhacks

Jess Dudley has always been adamant that the path to success for many people on this Low Carb Lifestyle journey lies in small groups and the sense of community that they breed. She says' "A community, at it’s best, inspires us and helps us build each other up! We link arms and endeavour to understand each other! Our common goal: learn, grow, heal and feel better!" For her, a community is a place she can get involved. She found the more she stayed involved with others, the more she wanted to stay strong for others. She says, "We come from a place with food where we won’t do it for ourselves, but we will do it for someone else!" She's been involved in over 150 small groups in 2017-18. She's led or facilitated meetings online, in living rooms, coffee shops, the local hospital, gym and even her church. People do better when they are connected to each other. A small group experience can keep us focused, provide inspiration, direction and give us a place to add value. You can read more from her in her blog post here. The work we do to put on these educational events, build the community and develop and maintain the Clinical Guidelines we have published is not sustainable without your support. Please consider becoming a patron. Even the smallest contribution helps! Please, also, subscribe to this podcast on Stitcher and iTunes to help us reach more people.

This week I welcome Denver's Diet Doctor, Jeffry Gerber, to discuss how we look at cardiovascular risk and health in general. It's about going beyond traditional risk factors that have been perpetuated for decades and decades. And, it's about looking at metabolic health through a different lens. As you will hear, it's not all about LDL cholesterol, it's more about insulin resistance — looking at your insulin levels and how your body responds to them. How higher insulin levels over time can be destructive for our bodies and our health — possibly more so than the “bad” cholesterol. We also discuss the importance of daily nutrition, having an open mind, focusing on prevention, low-carb and/or keto diets, and how statins can backfire. The bottom line is that if you are focusing on whole foods, from the earth and from animals, and you are avoiding grains and sugars, you are well on your way to a healthy low-carb lifestyle. Key Takeaways: [4:01] The ‘bad' cholesterol issue has been a distraction from researching the true metabolic markers of overall health. [12:22] How to present a low-carb, high-fat diet to health care professionals. [16:47] Dealing with controversy in the low carb community. [21:55] Common themes of vegetarian diets and low carb diets. [26:47] Is high LDL a good predictor of cardiovascular risk? [31:51] Remembering Dr. Joe Kraft and his insulin assay. [42:31] The LDL hypothesis and the use of statins. [50:35] A human's quest for protein. Mentioned in This Episode: Dr. Bret Scher Dr. Scher on Twitter Dr. Scher on Facebook Your Best Health Ever!
