After a difficult week for the food supply chain, there are warnings that consumers will pick up the bill. Food prices will inevitably rise as a result of the increasing costs farmers and food producers are facing - the Environment Secretary George Eustice says that's ‘undeniable'. Minette Batters, the President of the National Farmers' Union, has called for the future supply of C02 to be made much more secure. Carbon dioxide is used to stun both pigs and poultry before slaughter and The British Poultry Council warns that without it, we would see food shortages and animal welfare consequences on farms. There's an update on the post-Brexit farm subsidy plans across the UK - the Welsh Rural Affairs Secretary announced that theirs won't be brought in until 2025, while Northern Ireland heard they'd be getting more than £15 million extra. And we visit a Thames Water sewage works in Hampshire, to find out how the waste we flush down the loo is processed and spread out as fertiliser on farmers' fields. Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced by Beatrice Fenton.

See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Mirek Topolánek se v nové epizodě Topol Show velmi ostře vymezil proti „zelenému Tálibánu“, tedy těm, kdo v EU tlačí co nejrychlejší a nejtvrdší přijímání cílů Green Dealu. „Už tak drahá energie půjde s cenou nahoru, půjde nahoru i cena tepla, půjde nahoru cena všeho a před volbami teď nikdo nic neříká. Ti politici by měli říkat: ‚My děláme vše pro to, abyste zchudli‘.
O no…

At the current growth rate, global energy demand will double in 18 years. Meanwhile, governments are instituting mandates and offering subsidies to speed the move to an all renewable energy future. Nineteen U.S. states have released goals for achieving 100 percent renewable power in the next 20–50 years. While the promise of “clean energy” is appealing, will intermittent sources of energy be able to meet global needs? Join Dave Whitehead as he explores this important topic with author Robert Bryce.

Every vineyard has a portion of the property that is non-productive, but are there ways to maximize the benefits of this land? Fintan du Fresne, General Manager and Winemaker for both Chamisal Vineyards and Maine Wines and Christian Rodriguez, Assistant Vineyard Manager at Chamisal Vineyards found the answer to this question with a Miyawaki Mini-forest. Conceived by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, these mini-forests can take be developed in spaces as small as 30 square yards. Development of a coastal oak woodland at Chamisal Vineyards began by excavating three feet down, adding mulch and compost, and planting 400 to 500 native plants at a high density. This process enables the forest to establish three to four times as rapidly as it would in a natural setting. The established forest will not only proffer a habitat for local fauna but, also provide carbon sequestration. The next phase of this project includes a partnership with Cal Poly State University to pipe C02 from the winery into the forest to see how much carbon sequestration is possible.

Dr. Katia Nicolet, a marine biologist, is part of two, five-person crews rotating on board the Energy Observer. The self-sufficient, 100-foot catamaran is the first round-the-world, hydrogen-powered sea vessel. It's a working lab designed to showcase zero-emission technologies and demonstrate that clean energies can be accessible to everyone. As part of its six-year odyssey, the Energy Observer arrived in early May on Pier 9 in San Francisco about two weeks after entering the United States in Long Beach, California. The Energy Observer is on a global voyage to promote zero-emission technologies All images © Bruce Aldrich/2021 Nicolet, who has been involved with the project for about a year, is our guest on this episode of The Weekly Driver Podcast. After joining several other guests for Nicolet's extensive tour of the vessel, co-hosts Bruce Aldrich and James Raia interviewed our host about a wide range of topics — sustainable energy to living on the ocean for extended durations. Dr. Katia Nicolet, a marine biologist, is a crew member on the Energy Observer. "Everything is covered in solar panels and looks black," said Nicolet at the beginning of our podcast recorded in a makeshift sit-in area on the pier and among storage containers. "The primary source of our electricity comes from the solar panels. Energy Observer: Six-Year Worldwide Voyage "The main goal here is to be fully autonomous in energy and to go around the world only using renewable energy and hydrogen and not a single emission of C02 or any other kind of greenhouse gasses." The Catamaran is a hybrid-propelled vessel. It also has two sails, described by Nicolet as "more like wings." The hydrogen fuel tanks on the Energy Observer. "Let's say if we have 10 or 15 knots of wind, we are able to sail with what we call ocean wings," she explained. Energy Observer began its voyage in Saint-Malo, France in 2017. It has navigated more than 30,000 nautical miles. While two crews rotate about every six weeks, each five-person team includes a captain, engineer, a reporter, a scientist and boatswain, who Nicolet describes as "kind of the Swiss Army Knife of the ship." All crews share duties, cooking to cleaning. The Energy Observer is about 100 feet long and has two "wing sails." Toyota is among the Energy Observer's primary sponsors. "Yes, Toyota is one of our sponsors and we really like them," Nicolet said Two years ago, engineers from the manufacturer and the Energy Observer collaborated to create the fuel cell the vessel is currently using. Toyota is using its fuel cell in the Mirai, the hydrogen car introduced in California in 2015. The Energy Observer was docked at Pier 9 in San Francisco. "They adapted those cars' fuel cells to be more compact, to fit inside the boat and that's the fuel cell we've been using for two years now," Nicolet said. "It's much more efficient than what we had created when the project began in France. "People tend to think that hydrogen is very dangerous, but I have been sleeping two meters away from big hydrogen tanks and it's really rough seas this boat has been experiencing. We have big swells and lightning storms and really rough conditions and we've never had any issues." The Energy Observer is now en route to Hawaii. It will then continue to Japan. With Spring in full bloom, everyone's starting to think about their gardens, flowers and warmer weather to come. We welcome PittMoss CEO Brian Scott back to Business as Usual to talk about the many ways his environmentally friendly potting soil creates a lot of green. PittMoss calculates that in 2020, its products prevented 81,111 cubic feet of peat moss from being extracted, which equates to the reduction of 811.11 metric tons of C02 emissions. Annually, PittMoss gives each customer an Environmental Savings Certificate, which displays their calculation and certifies a specific number of metric tons of C02 emissions they’ve avoided that year. Plus, with its new funding campaign on Republic, small investors can put a little bit of their "green" into the PittMoss to help make it grow.

Jordan and Coco take a look at the example numbers cited in the study and share their thoughts on whether it accurately reflects the average grow or not. The guys also talk about the inevitable need for the industry to transition to an outdoor cultivation scenario, so it can truly evolve into the sustainable commercial crop that it has the potential to become. Bill Gates says that cow flatulence is creating too much C02 and as such we should grow our meat in test tubes instead of on the hoof. That does not sound appetizing. However REAL steak is still readily available and I show in this episode you how to impress your friends with your meat grilling skills. It's not that hard and people will LOVE your steaks. Host Brad Kearns welcomes Primal Health Coach Ryan Baxter to the show to discuss the importance of intentional breathing as it relates to minimizing workout (and life) stress and optimizing fat burning. Ryan discusses the important role breathing plays in whether we burn carbs or fat during aerobic workouts. Beyond the need to observe the “180 minus age” in heartbeats per minute, the efficiency of our delivery of oxygen to working muscles is also relevant. Ryan explains how improving our CO2 tolerance can improve oxygen delivery, making workouts less stressful and improving performance. The less CO2 you can tolerate the quicker you are going to want to exhale it from your body—that’s why we default to shallow, panting, inefficient breaths - not only during workouts but also at rest. This stimulates sympathetic (fight or flight) nervous system function while nose breathing stimulates parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system function. The greater you can tolerate C02 the slower you will be able to exhale it. You’ll learn how to dabble in the popular practice of nose breathing both at rest and during workouts. Try the shiftadapt test (linked below) to see how well you tolerate CO2 now and track improvement over time. Links: Ryan's Instagram Ryan's Blog Shiftadapt Test
Shipping is responsible for a gigaton of C02 emissions a year. We talk to the people on the climate frontline about one of the world's toughest industries to decarbonize.

With 2020 wrapping up, we finally got some good news. The vaccine is on the way, but with that comes some hazards that we Hazmat people need to address. Carbon Dioxide and dry ice. Take a listen to have an answer for when someone asks you about it. Thank you to our sponsor: First Line Technology, All Safe Industries and Hurst /Vetter Register and enroll at THMG e-University here. Courses being added weekly! Our hazardous materials training manual is finally available on Amazon! Click here to get your copy. Don't forget to rate, review, and subscribe. Thanks! Thanks for listening and watching! Don't just get on the job, get into the job! -109.3°F Dry ice sublimates. But here is a question I have gotten. If dry ice doesn't go from solid to a liquid then a gas then how is there liquid co2.C02 can't be a gas at 1 atm. It can be a liquid at -50c or -58f. The difference is pressure. In order to get liquid co2 we have to have it under pressure. The min pressure required is about 2 atm. What this means for us as responders, it means that if you have a co2 tank leak auto refrigeration wont have as strong an impact on the product as say propane, which can be a liquid at 1 atm. In a confined area this lends to a complete phase change in a short period of time. The super critical point for co2 is around 72 atm and 87.9f. This means that above that temp and theat pressure co2 only exists as a gas. No matter what……Ways of detecting co2PID. well the ip for CO2 is wayyyyyyyyy above 10.6 its way above 12 so no PID will be picking it upThermal conductivityYes thermal conductivity will but thermal conductivity will not identify a product.so you have to confirm what you have first them you 02 sensorJust like any displacement of o2 we can start to read very very large movements of 02.However there are some sensor issues we should talk about. There might be under high co2 levels a delay in the sensor picking up the low o2. This seems to stem from a chemical reaction with the co2 in the eletro light solution and changing its ph. This tricks the sensor into believing it's reacting with o2 for a few mins.Where does this become a problem?Well in reality it becomes an issue in people who are not keeping full situational awareness.I personally have never had this happen to me. I don't know if it is the brand of meter or the sensor we are using but I have always had readings that were consistent with my co2 meter up to 5% of the atmosphere because that's as high as our co2 meters will go.However if it does happen to you you have to remember that it only takes but a breath or two of no oxygen to suddenly find yourself sampling the floor with your mouth. So if you walking into a situation waiting for the meter to tell you something is wrong then you have already taken a few breaths before the meter will react….. And that under normal conditions. If you end up with this co2 delay you can think your ok even as you move in slow. So it's just another reason to always wear your mask and maintain situational awareness.NDIRNon dispersive infrared is a great tool for measuring co2. It has few if any cross sentiivinties and and reacts pretty quicklyOk let's talk about the elephant in the room. It's dec of 2020 and the new vaccines are on their way. And many of the vaccines that are starting to come out for the coronavirus are requiring that they are shipped at cold temperatures. As a result they are being shipped in dry ice. Let's look at someone the hazards and response considerations hereLet's break this down with the harm model, ContainerThis is a bit different than most of their hazmat. Containers are normally designed to keep materials contained. But dry is the opposite. The container is actually meant to allow it to release as the pressure builds. The container itself is actually designed to hold in the cold. Well ok thermodynamically speaking it's designed to hold out the heat, there is no such thing as cold.
This whole story has got the medical world completely at odds with itself. It has not been able to grasp the situation at all. Eben Alexander, MD, was an academic neurosurgeon for over 25 years, including 15 years at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital, and Harvard Medical School in Boston, - with a passionate interest in physics and cosmology. He is the author of the New York Times #1 bestseller Proof of Heaven and The Map of Heaven. His third book, co-authored with Karen Newell, Living in a Mindful Universe, was released in October 2017. http://ebenalexander.com/ Listen to this latest interview but also do a youtube search and do some binge watching - you will find that he is proof that you can transcend death - but more so - finally recognises that all people who have a NDE and a OBE - are able to remember what they see, hear and experience - even as they look down from the ceiling where they have ‘floated’ - as they see the doctors and surgeons frantically working to stabilise their body and keep it alive - remembering exactly what they say, what they do, even if it is to go out of the theatre, beyond the hospital - everyone and everything is carefully noticed. That when finally they find themselves mysteriously returned to their body again - they recall EVERYTHING that transpired. That their spiritual body - ‘essence’ - call it what you wish - can still remember everything - even without a body. Scientists like Rupert Sheldrake and others have stated that our memory is not stored in our brain or our body. That our spiritual body that oscillates at a far higher frequency has the capacity to be far more knowing, than what present day science can measure within the limitation of its instruments. This is where the new paranormal science is taking us. This is evolutionary science taking us to the next level - to the unseen. It is opening the door to the new paradigm that we have been entering for the last 40 years, but have been too reluctant as a Western civilisation to fully embrace it - due to the mind set, or should we say set mind - of the scientific establishment. Who as a body of hard nosed skeptics - emphatically state that the universe and the big bang happened all by fluke or chance. That we are all a pure accident and that somehow lightening and chemistry and water, warmth and light coincidentally brought life into being and we wriggled our way out of the swamp onto horses and carts and up to the moon - that is all somehow held together in ‘a vacuum’ and we are born to reproduce and to die and that’s it - game over … This is so far from the truth and like the 10 million people in the USA over the last century who have experienced OBE and ND Experiences - and the compelling-ness of all these occurrences that have been at many levels ‘censored’ by the MSM, or if not censored, in many cases made fun of and been put down as hallucinations or delusions. That MSM has been part of an orchestrated campaign to keep the human experience locked down and keep us trapped in our bodies to basically die an ignominious death and be forgotten. What Dr Eben has done, is parted the veil or even obliterated the silkiest of shrouds beyond death to reveal and uncover the magnificence of the universe (and God) in all its dimensions, dominions, and realms of high frequency colour, sound, geometry and ordered splendour. So unimaginable and profound - that the vastness of existence within the inner planes and realms - is beyond our faculties to comprehend … He says that right now there is a revolution happening between science and spirit that is occurring and is quickening and we are near a gigantic breakthrough … and the science of consciousness - that in essence, our souls are eternal. That we are Love and are Loved. His Message: The message he was given in his journey was … You are deeply loved and cherished forever - you have nothing to fear - you are taken care of … the lessons being, of kindness - compassion and unconditional love … also mercy, acceptance and forgiveness - these deep and profound principles … that are to govern our choices … Also covered is experiencing our life review - 20% to 50% of people have a life review - where they go back to main events in their life where we harbour residual lessons to be taught and learned … and the interesting thing is when you talk to near death experiencers in this situation - they do not describe about experiencing their life review from their own viewpoint - but from the perspective of those around them who were affected by their actions and even their thoughts. Listen it is important … especially in understanding karma. He was told that he would be taught many things … ‘but you will be going back …’ Reincarnation comes up as an important lesson in soul growth - this may shake out those who have had an orthodox upbringing in their own particular Abrahamic religion - however there are so many cycles in life - from the carbon cycle to the nitrogen cycle, the sulphur and the potassium and oxygen cycles including seasonal cycles, moon cycles and cycling constellations to the Galactic Cycle and beyond …. So why not a cycle of the soul? - Plato and Pythagoras were aware of this and it is far more predominant in the Western world than is commonly known. That our souls come back again and again in a process of refinement - until we can release ourselves from the ‘wheel of rebirth’ … Other Topics Covered. Indra's net = Eastern traditions … reincarnation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indra%27s_net Listen to Eben mention the power of Prayer … If you are a skeptic and atheist and a non believer - just take one hour out of your valuable life today and have a listen to this man - as his experience totally flips the medical version of life and confounds the naysayers in science too. Yet, he says he is more of a scientist today than he has ever been. That his memories have become more complex (detailed) after the coma than they were before … That memories are not stored in the brain - see Sheldrake.org and others … Briefly covered were: Telepathy, precognition, psychokinesis - the ability to manipulate matter at a distance - distance healing are all mentioned though quickly - and shared death experiences … Uvadops.org - University of Virginia - PAST LIFE research with children and reincarnation - Started by Dr Ian Stevenson and he says with reincarnation - this is where the world is heading (I heartily agree - Tim) …. it’s the science of consciousness. He mentions Captain Edgar Mitchell 6th Man on the moon and https://noetic.org/ Eben states that the days of scientists saying that NDE’s are nonsense and don’t occur are over … Because the only scientists who make such statements are the ones who don’t study or research any of the voluminous evidence that is available - globally. Eben, says the Elisabeth Kubler-Ross with her lifetime research and 20,000 interviews of NDE and OBE experiences - was absolutely essential in helping him connect the dots in relationship to his experience and he gives her kudos for the mapping of the territory that she did all those years ago. Now there are 100’s of scientists who are fully onboard following up on consciousness and the invisible realms today. https://www.ekrfoundation.org/elisabeth-kubler-ross/ He says https://galileocommission.org/ - is a very good resource … Meditation is big with him - going within … https://www.sacredacoustics.com/ Karen Newell, co-author with him on his new book. This is all about Understanding the Destiny of Humanity … We have to let go of the false sense of separation We are all in this together - and it is truly all about Love … He stresses Pierre Teilhard de CHARDIN - and his book The Phenomenon of Man - (1881–1955), French Jesuit philosopher and palaeontologist. He is best known for his theory, blending science and Christianity, that man is evolving mentally and socially towards a perfect spiritual state. The Roman Catholic Church declared his views were unorthodox and his major works (e.g. The Phenomenon of Man, 1955) were published posthumously. He was basically shunned by the Roman Church. Yet, humanity is converging on the Omega Point and the Cosmic Christ and that humanity is still tracking on Teilhard’s timeline. http://teilharddechardin.org/index.php/biography Love and compassion and kindness … He mentions all the planetary challenges we face within the biosphere - pollution, war, deforestation, climate, avarice - - you name it … The Golden Rule - treat others like you would like to be treated Treating animals humanely is important - because they too, have a very rich spiritual existence. Towards the end of the interview I asked Dr Eben: “There are no accidents in the universe?” He paused and said in relationship to him - “no, there are no accidents” I then posited - “therefore what happened to you has to be part of the plan to waken up humanity - ‘Gods plan if you will'' - “that what happened to you and how you are today assisting hugely in the awakening of humanity could be seen as a dispensation for humanity? - Or that in fact this was your assignment - this was your mission, to go through this journey and share your profound story that we are all eternal beings …’ I did not get to complete this below piece as we became engaged in talking about the above. “That you, Eben incarnated into our world - studied the body and brain function, become an expert in this field and that in this age of modern medicine have medical science show on the screens and high tech apparatus that in this ND experience your brain had been predominantly destroyed - that you were basically clinically dead - yet you can have a miraculous recovery - and come back today in full consciousness, sharing joy and goodwill.” “That this event had to BE” - and that this wonderful interview today could come as an extension of your mission.” We also briefly mentioned that humanity ‘has to remember their inner candle, and keep it alive.’ This interview is a very important message for all souls on earth that live within the biosphere. That we all share the invisible breath that keeps our sacred bodies alive. That this invisible breath is shared by all biota - humans and all animals and - especially trees, vegetation and plankton that convert our breathed out C02 back to Oxygen in a magnificent loop of connectivity. Anima mundi - Latin for World Soul Next week we will have the last interview of the year - one that will interest everyone.

Why hasn't US Occupational Safety and Health Administration bothered to do any testing on the potential negative effects of mandatory workplace face masks? An increasing number of individuals have tested C02 level build-up inside masks using OSHA-approved equipment and the results have been concerning. Why doesn't OSHA take the time to either disprove or confirm whether it is safe for face masks to be mandated on workers? Plus in today's program: corruption in Covid testing across the country and another look at the big hype over new "cases" in Texas and Florida. View full show notes here: https://www.cannabis-conversation.com/blogs/episode66This week we're joined by Mark Reinders, CEO of HempFlax Group who are the largest independent grower and processor of industrial hemp in Europe. Mark is also a board member for The European Industrial Hemp Association (EIHA).Together, we discuss the uses and applications of industrial hemp including its use in home insulation, as a bioplastic, and as a building material.About MarkMark is the CEO of HempFlax, Europe's largest independent hemp grower and processor. Mark has been at HempFlax since 2008 and was appointed CEO in 2016. HempFlax has operations across Europe, with over 2,400 hectares of hemp expected to be harvested in 2020.Raised in a farming family, Mark holds bachelor's degrees in agribusiness and crop production from Het Van Hall Instituut and a Master of Science degree in management from Nyenrode University. From 2016 to 2019, Mark served as president of the European Industrial Hemp Association, Europe's foremost coalition of the industrial hemp-processing industry. He continues to sit on its board of directors today.Episode SummaryHempFlax was founded in 1993 by Ben Dronkers with the aim of restoring the age-old crop to its former glory and reviving the industrial hemp industry. In the process, HempFlax has grown from 140 hectares of industrial hemp fibre in 1994 to 2500 hectares in 2017, in 2020 they expect to cultivate 3500 hectares. Their cultivation takes place in the Netherlands, Germany and Romania with their factories located in Oude Pekela, Netherlands and Alba Iulia, Romania.HempFlax are currently providing industrial hemp for use in car production to BMW, Mercedes, Bugatti, Jaguar and Bentley.Mark's father was a hemp farmer so he grew up around the crop. Mark strengthened this knowledge through interning at the company in 2000. It was in 2007 when Ben asked Mark to rejoin the team.Mark is a board member for EIHA, who are lobbying in Brussels for the recognition of Hemp amongst other activities. In The Netherlands, industrial hemp is prohibited unless it is grown for fibre and seeds, leaves and flowers are not allowed to be harvested. Across the border in Germany, this is allowed.New applications for industrial hemp are constantly being developed, it has an incredible amount of uses.It can be used as a construction material for houses, insulation, car parts, scooters, furniture and reusable cups.It can also be used as animal bedding or litter which is completely safe for animals and humans due to its lack of additives and minimal processing. The hemp plant thrives in almost any climate, it grows very quickly with little maintenance. No chemicals are required to grow it as it is resistant to pests and diseases. It consumes little water per kilo of fibre, much less than cotton, whose cultivation can be extremely harmful to the environment.Hemp also stores carbon dioxide during its growth, which is great for balancing the C02 levels in the environment.40% of the worldwide carbon dioxide emission is caused by construction and heating and cooling buildings. Traditional Fibreglass insulation is difficult to work with, it can be harmful to the skin and even inhaled. Hemp fibre on the other hand is non toxic and uses 10x less energy in its production than Fibreglass.HempFlax are also working within Bioplastics, by combining
On this episode Beast reads a love letter to Evike Matt, we talk about fields starting to open again, and whats better, green gas or C02. Enjoy!
Paul Holdengräber is joined by author and environmentalist Bill McKibben on episode 036 of The Quarantine Tapes. They discuss the precarity of this moment in human history, where there might be room for hope when thinking about the future, and the importance of listening and giving voice to our youth.Bill also shares a few lessons that we can learn during this time, including:Trusting that physical reality is, in fact, real. We live in a world of screens and reality is easy to manipulate. Physics and chemistry are real and the C02 molecule is nothing to be negotiated or compromised with. The virus, or the microbe, proves the same thing about biology. Speed and timing are of the utmost importance. We’ve now seen the consequences of delayed action both with the current pandemic and with climate change.Social solidarity matters. Bill McKibben is an author and environmentalist who in 2014 was awarded the Right Livelihood Prize, sometimes called the ‘alternative Nobel.’ His 1989 book The End of Nature is regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change, and has appeared in 24 languages; he’s gone on to write a dozen more books. He is a founder of 350.org, the first planet-wide, grassroots climate change movement, which has organized twenty thousand rallies around the world in every country save North Korea, spearheaded the resistance to the Keystone Pipeline, and launched the fast-growing fossil fuel divestment movement. The Schumann Distinguished Scholar in Environmental Studies at Middlebury College and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, he was the 2013 winner of the Gandhi Prize and the Thomas Merton Prize, and holds honorary degrees from 18 colleges and universities. Foreign Policy named him to their inaugural list of the world’s 100 most important global thinkers, and the Boston Globe said he was “probably America’s most important environmentalist.”A former staff writer for the New Yorker, he writes frequently for a wide variety of publications around the world, including the New York Review of Books, National Geographic, and Rolling Stone. He lives in the mountains above Lake Champlain with his wife, the writer Sue Halpern, where he spends as much time as possible outdoors . In 2014, biologists honored him by naming a new species of woodland gnat— Megophthalmidia mckibbeni–in his honor. For more information, please visit: www.billmckibben.com
