Doug Bradley: Marketing Your Law Firm the Right Way

In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Doug Bradley discuss:Understanding the numbers around marketing. Bootstrap marketing on a limited budget. Laying the groundwork for solid website optimization. Setting expectations and calls to action.  Key Takeaways:Having your own book of business gives you power and freedom. Be willing to try and test out options. There is data out there for search terms but you need to know what you're trying to accomplish. What might not be the right marketing fit for you right now, could be good later down the line. Don't discount something permanently just because it's not right now. When working with a marketing professional, make sure they have experience working with others in the area of practice that you are in.  "I would not dismiss completely the option of creating a very basic website and linking to it from your social media channels and your directory profiles. That really gets your website up and running and visible to Google and you really want that." —  Doug Bradley Find out more about the Bootstrap Your Marketing to Build Your Personal Brand Event at: https://fretzin.com/events Thank you to our Sponsors!Lawmatics: https://www.lawmatics.com/bethatlawyer/Get Staffed Up: https://getstaffedup.com/bethatlawyer/Green Cardigan Marketing: https://greencardiganmarketing.com/ Episode References: Justia: https://lawyers.justia.com/new-profileSteve Jobs by Walter Isaacson: https://www.amazon.com/Steve-Jobs-Walter-Isaacson/dp/1451648537 About Doug Bradley: Doug Bradley is the owner of Everest Legal Marketing and a highly experienced SEO professional. It's breaking news. Then, you're the first person to get it on your website or on the front of your newspaper, but even if it's not something new, oftentimes within a story, there's something unusual or unique.” – Deirdre Stires, senior writer at Bates College       Links: Maine's outdoor tourism industry seeks solutions for workforce housing: https://www.pressherald.com/2023/04/23/maines-outdoor-tourism-industry-seeks-solutions-for-workforce-housing/ Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife: https://www.maine.gov/IFW/ Maine Audubon: https://maineaudubon.org/ The Nature Conservancy in Maine: https://www.nature.org/en-us/about-us/where-we-work/united-states/maine/ Bates College: https://www.bates.edu/ Bates Trashion Show 2023: https://www.bates.edu/news/2023/11/16/bates-trashion-show-2023/ Portland Press Herald: https://www.pressherald.com/ “Becoming” by Michelle Obama: https://www.amazon.com/Becoming-Michelle-Obama/dp/1524763136 Word Counter: https://wordcounter.net/ “Born to Run” by Bruce Springsteen: https://www.amazon.com/Born-Run-Bruce-Springsteen/dp/1501141511 “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson: https://www.amazon.com/Steve-Jobs-Walter-Isaacson/dp/1451648537     About the guest:     Deirdre Stires worked for 27 years as a journalist in Maine, first at the Bangor Daily News and then at the Portland Press Herald, where she covered the outdoors for 20 years. Many newspaper readers in Maine know her from her byline — Deirdre Fleming — and her stories that anchored the Maine Sunday Telegram Outdoors section virtually every week. But Deirdre also covered outdoor and environmental breaking news and wrote in-depth, front-page Sunday stories on Maine's myriad outdoor activities, wildlife populations, conservation efforts and trends in outdoor recreation. In two decades, she wrote about — and experienced while reporting —virtually every outdoor activity in Maine.   She's won several writing awards in Maine and nationally. In 2013, she was selected as a national finalist in the beat-writing category by the Associated Press Sports Editors, which means as an outdoor writer she beat out sports journalists around the country covering traditional sports like football, basketball and baseball.   Her first book, which will be published by Islandport Press this spring, will be one of the nation's few hiking guides on accessible trails and will highlight the current movement to build more universal-access trails across the country.   Looking to connect: Email: Deirdre.fleming30@gmail.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/deirdre-fleming-stires-383910132/ X: @DeirdreStires

That's one thing the Americans can quite get from us unless they've been in the company of Brits for a while. So, we have three traits. We are self-deprecating, sarcastic and we drink like a fish.” (12:10) (Sam) “The businesses I did after came about by chance. I sold a business to Topshop, which is a female clothing retailer aimed at teenagers in the UK. It came out of my daughter's need to find cheap clothing from her budget that we gave her. She was trying to maximize her budget and I thought, ‘I can write a real-time pricing tracker for her.' So, I did. And out of that came another business.” (32:39) (Sam) “We're not a music radio station. We're more of a talk radio station. We have shows on wine, parenting, books. So, we don't expect someone to listen seven to seven. They dip in and dip out. It means we can build communities and tribes within each show.” (39:05) (Sam) “I get bored quickly. Three years is probably the limit of my interest in something. If it's not continuously moving forward, if it stagnates after two or three years, I'll move on.” (41:32) (Sam) “I think PR companies and brand agencies are beginning to wake up to the potential reach and the vertical communities that are being created around podcasts.” (51:04) (Sam) Resources MentionedSam's LinkedIn – https://www.linkedin.com/in/samsethi?originalSubdomain=uk (https://www.linkedin.com/in/samsethi?originalSubdomain=uk) Sam's Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/samtalkstechnology/?hl=en (https://www.instagram.com/samtalkstechnology/?hl=en) Sam's Twitter – https://twitter.com/samsethi?lang=en (https://twitter.com/samsethi?lang=en) Wine Keller – https://www.winekeller.com/ (https://www.winekeller.com/) TechCrunch Europe – https://techcrunch.com/europe/ (https://techcrunch.com/europe/) River Radio – https://river.radio/ (https://river.radio/) Podland News – https://www.podland.news/ (https://www.podland.news/) Sam's Podcast: Sam Talks Technology – https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/sam-talks-technology-761256 (https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/sam-talks-technology-761256) Podland News – https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/podland-news-1566455 (https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/podland-news-1566455) Books Mentioned: Steve Jobs – https://www.amazon.com/Steve-Jobs-Walter-Isaacson-audiobook/dp/B07ZMKXMTG/ref=sr_1_1?crid=D624TGQBC1KY&keywords=steve+jobs+walter+isaacson&qid=1654782252&s=books&sprefix=steve+jobs+%2Cstripbooks%2C73&sr=1-1...

Największy fan windsurfingu i koszykówki. To czego brakuje to pieniądze. Então qual é a novidade?

Like many entrepreneurs, our story begins with annoying children. Of course, we’re talking about ourselves - Jason, from Albany, NY, and Bao from Richmond, VA. For those who know us, it’s no surprise that we were both classic ‘why’ kids… as in “Mommy, why do dogs have fur? Why do we do it that way? Why this? Why that?” You get the picture. Formal apologies to our parents are forthcoming. We were both brought up in neighborhoods full of other young families. Weekends were spent with dozens of people, neighbors and family alike, telling stories over food and drinks while the ‘why’ kids we’re busy puzzling over new and improved ways to create havoc in someone’s yard. Needless to say, it led us both to a deep appreciation of community. That love of community set us both independently on the path to real estate development where we could build high-rises that would have a positive lasting impact on our neighborhoods and create financial upside for investors.   Get you FREE Book: https://www.audibletrial.com/Dwellynn   Content mentioned: www.whyhotel.com   Steve Jobs by Walter Issacson https://www.amazon.com/Steve-Jobs-Walter-Isaacson/dp/1451648537/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1539216967&sr=8-4     Contact Jason: hello@whyhotel.com

We all rely on our ability to "bounce back" from challenging circumstances to continue forward. These circumstances change us, often for the better if handled appropriately. 1. Reflect on the people around you that rely on your ability to be resilient i.e. family, friends, other stakeholders. Draw motivation from this. 2. Reflectinternally on the times you WERE resilient and overcame challenges. Who were the people, skillsets, knowledge levels that helped you during this time? 3. Now look externally at the people around you that have gone through hard times and come back stronger. Ask them good questions. 4. Read good biographies. Start with these: Biography of Winston Churchill https://www.amazon.ca/Churchill-Power-Words-Winston/dp/0306821974/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1520957096&sr=1-1&keywords=winston+churchill+biography Biography of Steve Jobs https://www.amazon.ca/Steve-Jobs-Walter-Isaacson/dp/1451648537/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1520957507&sr=8-1&keywords=steve+jobs Thanks for listening.

Your primary thing needs to remain your primary thing.* This can be tough because you may enjoy your side hustle more than your full-time job, but you owe it to yourself and others to give your job everything. *2. Differentiate yourself.* You have to figure out how to separate yourself from others. Jared and Creative Sheep do this in a couple of ways by paying their contractors quickly, which is not always the norm, and throwing their team a Christmas party. *3. Just start.* There are always excuses for why you can't or shouldn't do something, but it all comes back to fear. Don't let fear stop you from starting. Don't overthink it. Computerized Confessions: Biographies and Wedding Toasts in the Digital Age

Biographers have relied on handwritten letters for centuries, but more and more, they're using emails, texts and online chats to tell the story of a person's life. This week on New Tech City, WNYC's Ilya Marritz reports on how writers like Walter Isaacson — author of Steve Jobs — are using electronic correspondence to write biographies. Isaacson told Marritz about emails between Bill Gates and his team at Microsoft reacting to new Apple products, including one that read "we were smoked." "It was sort of a wonderful exchange to know exactly what people were thinking at Microsoft when the iPod first came out," Isaacson said.  Then, WNYC's Dan Tucker explains a digital trend he's noticed at a spate of recent weddings when it comes time for speeches and toasts. The best man or maid of honor takes the microphone, whips out a sheaf of paper and starts reading from emails the bride and groom sent each other when they first met.  One newlywed said having your emails to your bride-to-be read aloud to 250 wedding guests was hilarious and embarrassing but ultimately touching because everyone got a play-by-play of love blossoming.   "I think it's the coolest thing ever," said Josh Galecki. "It's kind of a snapshot or a look in on a relationship that you really can't get."  Also on this week's podcast, you'll hear from Mike Bergelson, CEO of a Everwise, a startup that's trying to update the idea of mentoring in the workplace through technology.  It's something akin to online dating for mentors and mentees with a notable addition: So-called "relationship managers" based in Minnesota who help shepherd the process along.  This is an extended podcast of New Tech City. You can listen to the broadcast version every Wednesday morning at 5:50 and 7:50 a.m. on WNYC 93.9 FM, AM 820 and New Jersey Public Radio or subscribe to the program on iTunes.
