Episode 54: Fearless Journalist Julie Blacklow on The Storytellers Julie Blacklow is an Emmy award-winning journalist with more than 40 years in the television news business. Among the first generation of women in TV news in the United States, she encountered the entire spectrum of humanity from movie stars to murderers and everyday folks overcoming amazing challenges. Born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area, Blacklow migrated to Seattle in her early 20's, married to a man who wanted to escape his Jewish mother. Hers is a life writ large, a roller-coaster ride with a remarkable number of wonderful highs and terrifying lows. At the age of 60, she gradually left television and began managing a horse ranch, a dramatic change of careers where she learned animals are often far more sane than humans. She's owned 5 dogs, 4 cats, one horse, and a wonderful son, Jeremy. Her friends describe her as tenacious, decisive, bossy, opinionated, loving, loyal, and brave. Now 75 years old, she has started painting again...something she hadn't done in 50 years, started a podcast, published her first book, "Fearless: Diary of a Badass Reporter," and is starting to write her second book which she describes as a 'non-fiction novel.' Find out more about Julie at: www.julieblacklow.com The Storytellers hosted by Grace Sammon, focuses on individuals who choose to leave their mark on the world through the art of story. Rounding out the June edition of Pride Anthems for this year is volume 10. For this set I wanted to pump up the pace and have a blend of old and new classic Pride anthems. The set kicks off with Gloria Gaynor's iconic "I Am What I Am" before flipping to some classic Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Donna Summer. Dirty Disco contribute two fantastic mixes for Cactushead and Madonna respectively. Kesha's collaboration with Sam Feldt is an empowering anthem mixed by Juskow & Blacklow and Wayne G. delivers a thumping remix of Rochelle's "Love Is A Battlefield". The set closes out with classic tracks from Celine Dion and M People. Other standout mixes come from Dario Xavier, Tommer Mizrahi and Chris Cox. Keep powering along and staying strong. EnjoyAnthony1/ "I AM WHAT I AM" (Original Club Version) - GLORIA GAYNOR2/ "LA ISLA BONITA" (Dirty Disco Classic Club Rework) - MADONNA3/ "I SHOULD BE SO LUCKY" (Dario Xavier 2K22 Remix) - KYLIE MINOGUE4/ "THIS TIME I KNOW IT'S FOR REAL" (Dario Xavier 2K22 Remix) - DONNA SUMMER5/ "ONE NIGHT ONLY" (Luis Vazquez Club Remix) - BEYONCE`6/ "LIFE'S WHAT YOU MAKE IT" (CELEBRATE IT) - (Dirty Disco & Matt Consola Mainroom Remix) - CACTUSHEAD ft. Party Favorz has landed a new T-Dance Edition just in time for spring. This set offers a whole lot Sunday afternoon power tracks to compliment your cocktails. Lately, Dirty Disco has been on a tear with one solid remix after another and the Spring T-Dance Edition 2022 is chock-full of them. I had more Disco Gurls, Block & Crown and Ghostmasters but most of those tracks have been moved to either the next Disco House set or Thank God It's Disco series. This set begins with a low simmer but quickly sizzles to a low-boil before finally cooling down with two notable entries to close it out. We have the excellent Eric Kupper remix of Reba McEntire's 'Does He Love You' and a new Diana Ross track 'I Still Believe' with Purple Disco Machine at the helm. Reba sounds stronger than ever on this 2009 classic and while still excellent — Diana's voice is beginning to show strain. Both ladies are DIVAS in their own right and the fact that they're still making great music is a testament to their iconic status within their industries. I had started working on the next Disco House installment but to be honest, the music just isn't there...yet. It's generally the easiest series to whip-up but too many of the biggest songs just fell flat (IMHO). So, I've pushed that back to its original scheduled release for two weeks from now and will begin compiling the set list for the Spring Edition 2022 to be released (fingers crossed) next week. Until the next time...ENJOY! Album: Spring T-Dance 2022 Genre: Vocal House, Disco House, Pop House Year: 202 Total Time: 03:35:07 1. Amfree & Stefane - Passion (Sean Finn Remix) 2. With June comes Pride and 2020 is certainly a Pride year for the record books. We’re still living under a global pandemic with all in-person celebrations cancelled. But thankfully, America is finally demanding change against systematic racism through the #BlackLivesMatter movement in a way that we haven’t seen since the 1960s. It’s a powerful moment in history and it leaves me feeling motivated and inspired. Pride is not cancelled, just because large gatherings can’t happen. In fact, I’d say that the spirit of Pride this year is stronger than ever.My latest podcast is a mix of joyous hands-in-the-air celebration dance tracks and gay classics, with a healthy sprinkling of Lady Gaga (whose latest album, “Chromatica,” is taking the summer by storm!) It contains my latest remix with Stephen Jusko, of 2020 song of the summer “Rain On Me,” by Mother Monster with help from Ariana Grande. This DJ is still not yet back to work and has no upcoming gigs on the horizon, so if you appreciate and feel inspired by my podcast, please feel free to Venmo me a tip: @DJBlacklowFollow me online:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/djblacklowSoundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/djblacklowInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/djblacklow/The Tracklist:1) Fun Tonight (DJ Blacklow Intro) – Lady Gaga2) Pretty Hurts (Rafael Barreto Remix) - Beyoncé3) Give A Little (Roland Belmares’ Summer Time Dubby Mix) – Maggie Rogers4) Together (Leo Blanco Remix) - Sia5) Hallucinate (Eddie Martinez Remix) – Dua Lipa6) Power (Dario Xavier Remix) – Ellie Goulding7) I Got My Sambando Education (DJ Blacklow Mashup) - Rafha Madrid vs. Uncanny Alliance8) Alice vs Don't Let Go (Brett Austin Big Room Mashup) - Lady Gaga vs. Nacho Chapado & Junior Senna9) Dance Monkey (Danny Mart Super Remix) – Tones and I10) American Life (Victor Cabral Remix) - Madonna11) Movin’ Up (2020 Mauro Mozart Remix) – Inaya Day12) A Deeper Love (Pride) (Leanh & Zambianco Remix) - Hector Fonseca & Natascha Bessez13) Holding Out For A Hero (Original Mix) - Esteban Lopez & Binomio Feat. In times of crisis, it’s so easy to feel overwhelmed and surrounded by fear. Music is a tool to help us face that fear.My Memorial Day weekend podcast is always my favorite of the year — there’s something about that feeling of an endless summer just on the horizon that fills me with hope. Of course, this year is different. I’m sad not to be surrounded by LGBTQ revelers in Pensacola, Florida; it’s my favorite place to be over this holiday weekend and it’s where I was scheduled to DJ again this year. Instead, I hope to see many of you there again in 2021.In the meantime, please enjoy my latest. It’s a long one — in fact, it’s my longest podcast yet — I typically try to keep 'em under 90 minutes, but this time I just couldn’t; there was too much music I wanted to include. And moreover, this one was a journey; an emotional outpouring of uplifting energy. You may sense a theme if you go along for the whole ride. It also includes my new 25th-anniversary remix with Stephen Jusko of Alanis Morissette’s iconic anthem, “You Oughta Know.”Yet again, this DJ has no upcoming gigs and a lot less money coming in. If you appreciate and feel inspired by my podcast, feel free to Venmo me a tip: @DJBlacklowI hope you're all staying safe and sound, wherever in the world you may be listening. Even as a teenager, Julie Blacklow displayed qualities that marked her as a natural for reporting—courage, tenacity, and a willingness to get in anyone’s face if it served her mission to help people. On the other side of her forty-year career, Blacklow arrived at Town Hall with a retrospective on her time spent as one of the first women in television news in America. In conversation with famed intimacy and sexuality researcher Pepper Schwartz, Blacklow drew from her book Fearless—Diary of a Badass Reporter to reflect on her decades in the television news business, where she met thousands of people and learned along the way how to ask questions in the worst—and best—moments of their lives. Blacklow presented an unforgettable memoir spanning her dramatic television career, cancer, and dozens more extreme highs and lows. Julie Blacklow is an Emmy Award-winning journalist for KING-TV with more than forty years in the television news business. Among the first generation of women in television news in the United States, she encountered the entire spectrum of humanity from movie stars to murderers and regular people overcoming everyday obstacles. Pepper Schwartz is an acclaimed author and researcher who has devoted her life to furthering the fields of intimacy and sexuality. Schwartz serves as AARP’s first Love & Relationship Expert & Ambassador and teaches at the University of Washington in Seattle, and has authored many articles and 25 books on love, sexuality, and commitment. Presented by Town Hall Seattle. Recorded live in The Forum on February 15, 2020.

There’s no other genre of music that I’m more passionate about than the joyous sounds of pure house music. Although I lead off a lot of my #PugLife podcasts with house tracks, it’s been over two years since I’ve put out a new podcast of just house — start-to-finish. I agonized over selecting the perfect tracks on this one for a while, but I’m super happy with the final results. I hope you enjoy this mix as much as I do! (and if you do, please share it!) Julie Blacklow, a well-known Seattle broadcast journalist with KING-TV and one of the first women to work in television news in America, has written her autobiography - Fearless: Diary of a Badass Reporter. Badass may be an understatement. Julie sits down with Dave Ross to recount her interactions with famous names over the years - Richard Nixon, Oprah, Tina Turner, and Chuck Berry, among others. She once stormed out of an interview with a surly Jennifer Lopez, and partied with porn stars on a yacht in California after being seduced by a source. And that barely scratches the surface!

GUEST MIX 006! Here's the latest installment of my 'guest mix' series, where I bring you exclusive podcasts from some of my favorite DJs and producers around the world. This edition comes from my good friend DJ Blacklow, who delivers over an hour of funky, chunky beats for spring! Blacklow fell in love with dance music while living in New York City in the 90's, and his sets and remixes are inspired by some of NYC's legendary DJs and nightclubs. Today, he's based out of Los Angeles, but performs all over the country at many of the biggest gay clubs and dance festivals -- including Memorial Day Pensacola, Halloween New Orleans, and LA Pride, among many others. You can catch Blacklow in Vegas this weekend on Saturday night (March 31st) at Piranha Nightclub for Stripper Circus… or also alongside me this summer at Independence Week over the 4th of July in Provincetown at the Crown & Anchor. It’s been a beat since my last podcast – I headed back to a full-time job this past fall and most of my free time has been focused on production work and live gigs, so I’ve let my podcast output suffer a bit. But I’m excited to start 2018 off right with a new high-energy installment of my #PugLife series. I decided to bookend this podcast with P!nk, because, well, I’m obsessed. The opener is a mashup I made and have been using in my recent live sets of Block & Crown and Luca Debonaire’s new track (two of my favorite producers right now!), “Discoteca,” with “What About Us”... and the I close the Podcast with my new remix of “Beautiful Trauma.” (head to my Soundcloud for a free download!) https://soundcloud.com/djblacklow/pnk-beautiful-trauma-dj-blacklow-remix I’m already at work on “House Is a Feeling (Vol. 4)” and “Tech-nically Speaking (Vol. 3)”… so look for those soon! As the world pushes forward into one of the most uncertain eras of modern times, I think everyone’s taking a little bit of refuge in the familiar. Updates are everywhere in dance music in 2017. And this podcast consists entirely of updates of classics, including several of my favorite dance floor tracks of all time. Close your eyes, listen to the music, and enjoy the journey. (and it’s a long one, I know!) Personally, I’m committing myself to stay vigilant – to fight injustice wherever I encounter it, and to never accept hate as normal. And one of the best tools that I have at my disposal to counter the incoming fascist regime is my art. So, here’s some music to get you through this very tough inaugural weekend that’s taking place in the United States of America. I’m excited to be a guest of Tristan Jaxx’s down at OVERDRIVE in San Diego this weekend. In just under the wire before the beginning of 2016 is installment #2 of my “4 podcasts in 4 weeks” series – a tech-house podcast. (to be followed soon by my classic house and latest deep house podcasts!) Call this what you will – “actually” a house music podcast, something not purely “techno,” something totally different than the circuit sound I’ve been gravitating towards over the past year, my audition mixtape to finally play next year in Sydney – whatever you want to label it (but I prefer to avoid labels!), I’m thrilled with how this one turned out. Most of it’s at 126 BPM, although it creeps between 125 – 128 at points. A lot of this is inspired by the Australian sound of late (and it contains mixes by DJ/Producers Philthy Holster, Brett Austin, and Kitty Glitter) – I love so much about what’s popular down there these days. I’m so happy with this podcast that I already have the tracklist prepared for a “Part 2,” which is ready to go for mid-to-late January. (once I finish my other two genre specific podcasts which are on the back-burner!) Take a moment and sample this one … I hope you enjoy what you hear! Hey All, I’d like to write a very special thank you to everyone who came out for Halloween New Orleans this year. It was truly one of the most amazing nights of my DJ career to date and Saturday night’s “Fall of the Pharaohs” event was definitely one for the record books. I felt like Daft Punk spinning in that pyramid. I don’t always post my sets, but this one I did indeed record. I hope you enjoy re-living the memories from the night… throw it on at the gym and hopefully the gold body paint will practically re-emerge in your sweat. While mine was a warm-up set, Joe Gauthreaux’s set the second half of the night was probably 3 of the best hours of dance music that I’ve ever heard. I can’t thank the incomparably talented Joe and Stephen Massey (DJ Grind) enough for their amazing camaraderie this year! And thank you also to everyone who helped make HNO XXXII so special this year! Dustin & Jeff, Ryan W., Ryan C. Neil, Brent, Joe & Stephen and everyone else involved in volunteering for this one-of-a-kind weekend to benefit Project Lazarus. I was honored to be a part of it two years in a row. New Orleans has truly become like a second home to me over the past several years, and I look forward to many return trips in the very near future! As an extra “thank you,” here also is the tracklist to my set (in case you’d like to seek out the remixes). Another June is here and another Pride season is upon us. With the upcoming Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage, it feels like it's going to be an extra special summer. I'm thrilled to be playing Pride events in four cities this summer: my hometown of Los Angeles, my former home of NYC, the ever-hospitable New Orleans, and my Pacific Northwest home (region!) of Vancouver. Genre-wise, this podcast encapsulates a lot of different sounds – like most of my 'casts it's a journey. There's a tech house intro, followed by a huge high-energy circuit middle, with a bit of classic house and EDM towards the end. I'm excited to feature the impeccable production work of a handful of peers whom I'm also honored to call friends: DJ Grind and Toy Armada, The Perry Twins, and Casey Alva. I'm very excited to present my latest deep house podcast – Deep Spring House, Part 1. I think for most DJs, sticking to just one sound can get a bit boring. For me, deep house is what I listen to when I'm not in a club… when I need to think on long car rides… when I'm sitting around a friend's pool on a lazy weekend afternoon. Deep house has increasingly become my passion project and I've been working on this latest set for quite a while… in-between other gigs and projects. The BPM on this one varies from 120 – 124 in sections, but it never gets above. It's a full two hours long and I have a Part 2 almost ready to record that's equally as long – there's just too much great deep house out there not to share it! Please share this podcast on social media if you enjoy it. I'd love to be able to play this sound out live more in the future! Hello Fellow Music Lovers, It's that time of year again – the holidays. It can be an amazing time to be with family and loved ones, but for many, it can also be a very depressing and trying time of year. I hope that every one of you can use the power of music to try to make it through any tough times you may be experiencing. And also, use music's inherent joy as a tool for celebration. I'm excited that my podcast has finally started to take off – since November 1st it's had over 10,000 downloads! DJing can be a very lonely road that requires a lot of sacrifice. To anyone listening (or actually reading this), your support is what's getting me through. I recorded this latest podcast about 4 times before finalizing on this tracklisting. I have 30 more tracks that I wanted to include in this month's. I wanted it be perfect. Of course, it's not. There's no way anything can be perfect. There's one transition here that makes my own ears bleed. But I did the best job I could do and I hope you enjoy it. I love the feeling of listening to deep house music as the weather gets cooler. There's something about the cozy feeling of the oncoming winter that just puts me in the best mood. OK, well maybe not so much in LA, but it's nice to think that it's fall most places! I made my first deep house podcast last January, and I've been meaning to make my second one ever since. If I had my druthers, I'd be playing deep at a lot more gigs — I absolutely love this sound so much. It's what I listen to when I'm at home or when I'm feeling meditative when stuck in the car for long rides. Some of these songs are mainstream and some are more underground. I picked each one for how it flowed into the overall mix. Just pop this baby on, and let your pain fade away…. ***note: I just realized that there's a four second skip at the very end of "Sunlight" — it's driving me crazy TRUST ME, but I have so much going on this month that I don't have time to re-record the whole podcast just to fix it. My apologies. I know it sucks, but I'm really proud of the rest of the podcast and I don't think it's worth scrapping the whole thing for these four bad seconds. Summer is finally here! Pride season is always an exciting time of year to me, but this year I've been feeling an especially strong amount of emotion. I just turned 38 this month, and I think the combination of being firmly in my late-30's now and having just finished riding my 7th AIDS/LifeCycle has got me thinking deeply about a lot of things. I was (as many were) recently moved by the powerful message that the world got from watching HBO's "The Normal Heart." And then again watching HBO's "The Case Against 8" this week, on the eve of the marriage of Jeff Zarrillo and Paul Katami. I feel tremendous change in my approach towards interpersonal relationships right now as well — with an eye out towards both friendships and romantic love... with changing priorities in my life's work. Maybe it's just Mercury in retrograde, but right now I'm just feeling very deeply. I express a lot of that through music. Music is the motivation that keeps me going. Music is the crutch that supports me through long days. Music is the outlet that allows me to vent and to be creative. So with this podcast, I want to celebrate the beauty that exists in loving each other… in finding love in all of its strange forms and remembering what it means to love one another. "Without music, life would be a mistake." ― Nietzsche My Upcoming DJ Schedule: June 27th: Mischief, Re-bar, Seattle Pride June 28th: Wedding Celebration of Paul Katami & Jeff Zarrillo, Beverly Hills June 29th: Daydream, The Dream Downtown, New York City Pride July 18th: Stripper Circus, Share nightclub, Las Vegas July 25th: Grunt, The Eagle, Silverlake July 26th: Plastic Fantastic, Eleven nightclub, West Hollywood August 3rd: Size Sundays, Here lounge, West Hollywood August 16th: Plastic Fantastic, Eleven nightclub, West Hollywood October 19th: Size Sundays, Here lounge, West Hollywood October 24th: Halloween event TBA October 25th: Halloween event TBA The Tracklist: "Find You" (acapella), Zedd feat. I've been in the middle of a busy run of great some great gigs lately, so I felt inspired to do not one, but two, new podcasts. There's just been too much great new music out lately to limit it to just one set (or, to one sound!). Part one features a much more gay dancefloor sound. Part two (April Showers - A Little EDM'y ... forthcoming) will have a different sound with much harder beats (with my eye looking towards Coachella in two weeks!), but still with lots of vocals. If you enjoy my podcast, would you please consider making a donation to my AIDS/LifeCycle fundraising efforts for 2014. I won't be playing as many gigs in May because I'll be busy on the bike training for this 550-mile ride from SF to LA the first week of June to raise money to help those living with HIV and AIDS. It's my 7th year riding for this amazing cause, and I'd love your support with a tax-deductible donation! http://www.tofighthiv.org/site/TR/AIDSLIFECYCLE2014/AIDSLifeCycleCenter?px=1172262&pg=personal&fr_id=1630 Here's my upcoming schedule: March 30th: Private event in Ixtapa, Mexico April 5th: Xposed Day Party, Tropicana Hotel, Las Vegas (new summer residency!) www.xposedlv.com/tickets/reservat…ldate=2014-04-05 April 20th: Resurrection, Easter Tea Dance, Palomar Hotel, San Diego (an AIDS/LifeCycle fundraiser event, 1 - 7 p.m.) April 20th: Stripper Circus, Rich's, San Diego (8 p.m. - close) May 3rd: private house party, West Hollywood June 8th: Gay pride at Here lounge, West Hollywood (noon - 5 p.m.) June 22nd: Size Sundays, Here lounge, West Hollywood The Tracklist: "Mean Girls," rifle Intro "Drunk In Love" (DJ Aron mix), Beyoncé "Getcha" (Tommy Love Remix), Hector Fonseca (feat. So, I've wanted to make a deep house podcast for over a year now, but I've always made excuses for not getting around to it. Well, the time's finally arrived! One of the best challenges of being a DJ is experimenting with different genres of music and this is definitely a completely different sound for me. However, it's also a sound that I love listening to so I knew I'd enjoy making it. I wanted to make a mix that you'd play while sitting by the pool, looking out over the Aegean Sea or the Hollywood Hills with a cocktail in your hand and hope in your heart. This is certainly no high-energy gym mix — it's a 180 from everything else on this page (with the exception of my "NYC Made Me Do It" podcast, which has a strong deep house section in it). It's certainly not my best mixing technically, but it's my first time doing a podcast mostly at 124 BPM. For a while towards the top I even experiment with 3 and sometimes 4 tracks playing at once. Still, I'm really happy with how it turned out and I hope you enjoy it as well. My next high energy February podcast should be done in a week. My Upcoming Live Schedule: February 2nd – Size Sundays, Here lounge, West Hollywood February 3rd - "Vampire Academy" release party, Lure nightclub, Hollywood February 16th – Tortilla Republic, West Hollywood February 21st - 23rd, 2014 – [Elevation: Park City] (gay ski week) February 28th - Stripper Circus, Share Nightclub, Las Vegas March 23rd – Size Sundays, Here lounge, West Hollywood The Tracklist: "Thy Name," Shaylom "Warm Up," Pavel Petrov & Marten "Can't Give Up" (Chus & Ceballos Vocal Remix), Denver feat. Derek Conyer "Thursday" (Mindskap Remix), Pet Shop Boys feat. Example "Bump and Grind" (Waze Oddysey Mix), Garage feat. R.Kelly "I Can't Describe" (Baggis Hand Bag House Remix), Jennifer Hudson "F For You," Disclosure feat. Mary J. Blige "Givin' It Up," Lancelot feat. Antony & Cleopatra "Moleque Transante," Junior Teixeir and MC Sabara e Dannie "Jack Your Booty," The Deepshakerz "Can You Feel It" (Jakobin & Domino Pump Up The Jam Rework), Mr. Fingers "I Got U," Duke Dumont feat. I'm excited to be putting out my first podcast of 2014, with some amazing new music on it. I had a hard time whittling down the tracks — at one point I had over 45 songs on the playlist! I could easily put out a 2nd version right away (hmmm….) This one feels special for me because it contains the first remix that I've ever had my own name on — the remix of "Brave" by Sara Bareilles done by George Figares and myself. I hope you enjoy it! And for everyone stuck in the polar vortex, KEEP DANCING to stay warm! Part 1 (9 - 10:15 PM) What an amazing night! It was my honor and privilege to DJ Fred and Jason's 8th Annual Halloweenie party in Los Angeles this year, opening for the absolutely amazing DJ Dave Aude. I wanted everyone to have more than pictures to remember the night by, so I recorded my set and I'm posting it in 2 parts here. Please share it if you enjoy it. One disclaimer, on Part 1, I had to cut out a couple of tracks that I'm not able to post online, out of courtesy for the DJs who passed along the remixes, so you'll hear a jump cut in one place between Avicii/Gotye and Rihanna/Right Now (where I cropped out these aforementioned wo mixes). Summer is fading, and fall is upon us. It’s truly my favorite season, as the evenings start to get that first chill in the air. My last podcast intro was very wordy — this one will be much less verbose. In an introspective mood and will let the music speak for itself. I'm hugely excited to finally be able to announce that I'm going to opening for Grammy-nominated DJ/producer Dave Aude at Fred and Jason's Halloweenie event in Los Angeles on October 25th, benefiting the Gay Men's Chorus of LA. This is the biggest Halloween event of the year and it's a huge gig for me. I could not be more excited!!! As always, I hope you enjoy … and please spread the love on social media if you do. It’s been while since I’ve gotten a new podcast out the door – in fact, this is my first of summer 2013. I suppose it’s a blessing that I’ve been working so much (both DJing and in my full-time job as a journalist), that I haven’t really had time to crank ‘em out like I had been a year ago. I’ve been in a weird transition period as a DJ recently in terms of defining my sound. From the first time I finally spun an after hours party last fall, I’m learning that deep down I’m a big room guy – I prefer a more driving and dramatic sound to lighter fare. But I’m not a strictly tribal after-hours guy like Paulo or Abel, or a circuit peak king like Joe Gauthreaux or Danny Verde — I’m not an awesome tea dance master like Wayne G or Grind, or an EDM strictest like Nicky Romero or Alesso (all of whom are some of the DJ’s that I admire the most right now and love to hear out live often). Being the Gemini that I am, I have a really hard time picking one sound and sticking to it. And in that, I’m finding that which truly is my own sound. I love pop music and I love wordless tribal beats, I have gay and straight influences, and I can’t play only male or female vocals (although being gay, I’ve always loved a good screaming diva!). And lord knows, I can’t stick with a decade — you’ll yet again hear at least something in here from each of the past five of ‘em. Through it all, I came of age in New York City, so I’ll always be partial to a classic house 4/4 beat, no matter how it’s dressed up. What you won’t hear are remixes from any of the DJs whom I’ve historically been most influenced by — in the SoundCloud age, all DJs have access to a panoptic of sounds that range from official commissions to tracks put together by a teenager in their mom’s basement. There’s a new guard rising, but top talent always shines through. With the exception of a few songs, many of these remixes are by folks I’ve never used before. This podcast reflects my schizophrenia a bit, and yet I was totally conscious about its bi-polar nature when I was laying it out and recording it. It’s almost like a wedding of my influences – what’s the saying? — Something old, something new … something borrowed, something blue. I decided to start this one out very tribal in the first five tracks to build a foundation, but with a new take on some very classic and recognizable vocals. Then there’s a spurt of some new pop music, before I get into what I think is a very strong section of EDM-light (the type I love). From there I throw in a couple of more pop songs (with EDM-light remixes) before going into a few flashback tracks that you probably haven’t heard out anywhere in quite a while (a trademark of any one of my sets), before ending with five female vocals that have me singing out loud in the shower right now. And as always, my closing track might seem out of left field, but it’s the track I’m most likely to throw on at the end of the night just to make myself smile when I’m in the car driving home alone after a gig that just ended at 4 a.m. Without further delay, please enjoy a selection of tracks that have truly made the middle part of my summer ... The dog days, if you will. I think it was worth the wait. And for those of you in Chicago for Market Days this weekend, see you on the dance floor! My Upcoming Live Schedule: August 9th – 5 -6 PM, Minibar, Chicago (Market Days) August 10th – 6 – 7 PM … Minibar, 8 – 9 PM … DS Tequila, Chicago (Market Days) August 16th – Stripper Circus, Share Nightclub, Las Vegas August 17th – private party in the Hollywood Hills September 1st – Size Sundays, Here lounge, West Hollywood September 7th – Rasputin, West Hollywood Tracklist: “Arriba! feat. Beyond April's Coachella 2013 podcast, it's been two full months since I've finished a 'cast with the tracks that I personally am really feeling the most. Although it's coming at the end of the month -- Memorial Day weekend to be precise -- I'm so excited for this line-up that I literally can't type the text fast enough to get it out. These are the tracks that I've been feeling the most emotional connection with these past couple of months. I think this mix is truly the best selection of songs I've ever put together and I'm so excited about it. It travels from some old school NYC house, to a bit of a Daft Punk-a-thon ... then heads into a bit of white boy EDM land, before emerging into some serious diva sould realness. It's a JOURNEY, it thrills me for the whole ride, and I hope it does the same for you too! So, throw "Spring Fling" on your iPod because I'm excited to get you movin'. I'm traveling a lot for work and family obligations over the next two months, so I've had to pass on some recent rounds of my regular DJ gigs in LA. Here's where you can catch me playing soon: June 8th - LA Pride Festival (6:35 - 7:35 PM .... followed by my DJ mother, Aaron Elvis, right after) June 9th - Chad Hudson Events' LA PRIDE at the Palihouse rooftop (10 AM - 3 PM) June 21st - Stripper Circus at Share nightclub, Las Vegas (EDC weekend!) June 30th - NYC Gay Pride, Shark at the Dream Downtown hotel July 13th - High Tea at the Hard Rock Hotel, San Diego Pride July 14th - Concrete Hero, LA Historic Park (fundraiser for APLA) July 19th - Stripper Circus at Share nightclub, Las Vegas July 21st - Size Sunday's at Here lounge, West Hollywood Without further delay, the "Spring Fling" (Soul) Tracklist: "Get Huh (Twisted)", Ellis D feat. Hey Music Lovers, Wow, it has indeed been almost two months since my last Podcast. Needless to say, I've started a new full-time job and I've been working my little behind some very long hours getting a new TV show off the ground.
