This week on Bad Dads Film Review, it is prison week — although with Riggs and Chris missing, Sidey and Dan are doing hard time as a two-man crew. Before the main feature, we look at memorable prisons and prison stories from film, TV and music. That means everything from miscarriage-of-justice anger to escape-movie comfort food, brutal borstal drama, wizard prisons, sitcom prisons and, naturally, George Clooney being offensively cool in Out of Sight.Along the way we discuss:In the Name of the Father and the fury of the Guildford Four injusticeThe Shawshank Redemption, new fish, Red, Andy Dufresne and the power of endless TV rewatchabilityThe Green Mile as another Stephen King prison classicBirdman of Alcatraz, Escape from Alcatraz and The Rockwhy Pete is missed whenever a Sean Connery impression is requiredBrubaker, with Robert Redford discovering prison corruption from the insidethe glorious stupidity of Prison Break and its tattooed escape-plan premiseScum, Midnight Express, Azkaban and The Great EscapeFolsom Prison Blues, Jailhouse Rock, I Fought the Law and John Lennon's Attica StatePorridge, HMP Slade and Fletcher trying to survive the system by wisecrackingEscape from Sobibor and the power of stories about people walking out through horrorOut of Sight, Glades Correctional Institution and the possibly illegal hotness of George ClooneyThen we review Sing Sing, directed by Greg Kwedar and starring Colman Domingo as John “Divine G” Whitfield. Inspired by the real Rehabilitation Through the Arts programme at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, the film follows a group of incarcerated men who use theatre to build community, process emotion and make something together in a place designed to strip people of freedom. The film opens with Divine G performing on stage. For a moment, it could be Broadway. Then the prison reality returns: standing to attention, routines, walls, control. That contrast becomes the film's central power. Inside the rehearsal room, the men are not reduced to their crimes or their sentences. They are actors, writers, collaborators, comedians and friends.A big part of the film's authenticity comes from the cast. Alongside professional actors like Domingo and Paul Raci, many performers are real RTA alumni and formerly incarcerated men playing versions of themselves. Sidey and Dan both pick up on how much that matters. The film feels lived-in because many of the faces on screen have lived some version of this world. The main dramatic spark comes when Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin joins the theatre group. He is guarded, tough and suspicious of vulnerability, but he is also the person who suggests the troupe should make a comedy instead of another serious drama. That choice leads to Breakin' the Mummy's Code, a real RTA production full of time travel, ancient Egypt, Hamlet and absolute chaos.Sidey had not heard of Sing Sing before this week and might not have watched it without the nomination, but he is very glad he did. Dan is just as positive. The dads admire the film's warmth, pace and humanity, and the way it avoids becoming either a grim prison misery parade or a simplistic “art fixes everything” story. It is moving, funny, generous and grounded — a prison film about performance, friendship, grief, justice and purpose.Strong recommend from both dads. You can now text us anonymously to leave feedback, suggest future content or simply hurl abuse at us. Hard pass. Favorite pasta pairing? Cacio e pepe with...anything. Most underrated Italian grape? Aglianico. What Italian wine could convert a Cabernet drinker? Sagrantino. Most overrated wine trend? Orange wines — the hype, not necessarily the wine itself. Dream celebrity spokesperson for Italian wine? George Clooney. Consider this his official invitation.   Mark Orsi's Cacio e Pepe Recipe Looking for a simple pasta to pair with Italian wine? Mark shares his recipe for cacio e pepe, the classic Roman pasta made with Parmigiano-Reggiano and black pepper. Ingredients 2 tablespoons whole black peppercorns 4 1/2 cups finely grated Pecorino Romano, plus more for serving 1 1/2 cups finely grated Parmigiano-Reggiano 1 pound dried tonnarelli   Directions1) Bring a large pot of water to a boil. (Do not add salt)  2) Meanwhile, in a very large nonstick skillet or pot set over high heat, toast the peppercorns just until fragrant. Let cool, then grind or crush very coarsely. Reserve 1 teaspoon for serving. 3) In the same skillet or pot, combine the cheeses and remaining pepper. Add 1 ½ cups warm water and stir to make a thick pecorino cream. 4) Add the pasta to the boiling water and stir. Keep the heat very high until the water returns to a boil, then stir again and adjust the heat as needed to keep the water bubbling. Set a timer for 8 minutes. 5) Set the pecorino cream over very low heat. 6) When the timer goes off, scoop out about ½ cup of the pasta cooking water and set aside. Taste the pasta and continue cooking until the pasta is done to your liking. 7) Drain pasta very well (this is important, as adding too much hot water can cause the cheese to clump) and add to the pecorino cream. Use tongs or two forks to stir, turn and toss the pasta in the sauce over low heat until the cheese melts and the sauce becomes sticky. Don't add any water yet, just keep tossing. To test, squeeze a drop of sauce between your thumb and finger. When the sauce is thick and forms strings like glue, it is ready. 8) If it starts to dry out, add cooking water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and toss thoroughly before adding more. Twist the pasta into a nest, if desired. 9) Dust with additional pecorino and the reserved pepper. 10) Serve immediately with a glass of Italian wine, preferably Orsi   Hugo Spritz Recipe For another taste of Italy at home, make a refreshing Hugo Spritz with Prosecco, elderflower liqueur and fresh mint. Ingredients 4–5 fresh mint leaves ½–1 ounce elderflower liqueur, such as St-Germain 4 ounces chilled Prosecco 1 ounce club soda or sparkling water Ice Lime wheel or lemon slice for garnish Instructions Place the mint leaves in a large wine glass. Gently press the mint with a muddler or spoon to release its aroma. Fill the glass with ice. Add elderflower liqueur, followed by Prosecco and club soda. Stir gently. Garnish with lime or lemon and serve. About Orsi Family Vineyards Orsi Family Vineyards is a Healdsburg winery specializing in Italian grape varieties grown in Sonoma County. Christopher Lochhead Follow Your Different™

Political strategist and pollster Lee Hartley Carter recently joined us at the Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different podcast to share her sharp insights on the current American political landscape. As the founder of Carter Intelligence Group and author of “Persuasion: Convincing Others When Facts Don’t Seem to Matter,” Lee Hartley Carter brings a rare combination of research expertise and communications mastery to some of the most pressing questions facing voters and candidates today. From the rise of democratic socialism to the upcoming midterms, Lee Hartley Carter unpacks why anti-establishment energy is reshaping both parties and what it means for the future of American politics. You're listening to Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different. We are the real dialogue podcast for people with a different mind. So get your mind in a different place, and hey ho, let's go.   The Anti-Establishment Wave Is Rewriting the Rules Lee Hartley Carter argues that the single most defining force in American politics right now is a deep distrust of institutions. Voters no longer trust big companies, big government, or career politicians to deliver on their promises. This sentiment fueled Donald Trump’s rise on the right, and it is now driving a new generation of progressive candidates on the left. She points to Zohran Mamdani’s stunning victory in New York City as a prime example. A candidate in his early thirties with no executive experience captured the city’s attention by speaking directly to people’s frustrations about rent and affordability. According to her, candidates who name real problems and offer simple, emotionally resonant solutions are winning, while those who run on credentials and qualifications are losing.   Lee Hartley Carter on Why Feelings Trump Facts in Modern Political Communication One of the most powerful observations Lee Hartley Carter makes is that feelings consistently override facts in political decision-making. Christopher Lochhead challenges the old saying that facts do not care about your feelings, flipping it to argue that feelings do not care about your facts. Lee Hartley Carter wholeheartedly agrees with this framing. This dynamic explains why candidates who connect emotionally with voters consistently outperform those who lead with policy credentials and experience. Telling voters they are wrong or uninformed only pushes them further away. She emphasizes that the candidates winning today are the ones validating what people already feel, then offering a focused, believable path forward rather than a long list of policy positions.   Lee Hartley Carter on What to Expect From the Midterms and Beyond Lee Hartley Carter predicts that the upcoming midterms will not be the clear blue wave that conventional wisdom might suggest. Despite an unpopular war, high gas prices, and a president with approval ratings hovering around 38 percent, Democrats hold only a razor-thin lead in generic ballot polling. She believes the race remains wide open for both parties. Her advice for Republicans is to stop reacting to socialist messaging and start setting their own clear narrative, much like Trump did in 2016 with Make America Great Again. For Democrats, she sees affordability as the singular issue that could carry them to victory, provided the moderate and progressive wings of the party stop undermining each other. Lee Hartley Carter believes the candidates who define the conversation rather than respond to it will ultimately win. To hear more from Lee Hartley Carter and her thoughts on the current political scenarios, download and listen to this episode.   Bio Lee Hartley Carteris a communications strategist and public opinion expert. She’s the founder and CEO of Carter Intelligence Group and author of “Persuasion: Convincing Others When Facts Don’t Seem to Matter” As a television news personality and researcher, she doesn't rely on traditional polling for her unique insights into U.S. politics; rather, she analyzes voters' emotional responses to help understand and empathize with them on a more visceral level. The reaction matters, but the “why” behind it matters more. It was this approach that allowed her to accurately predict the results of the 2016 presidential election and primaries.   Links Follow Lee Hartley Carter! Geoffrey Blake on Young Guns, Cast Away & the Brutal Truth About Acting In this funny, loose, and unexpectedly insightful episode of Reza Rifts, Keith Reza welcomes actor Geoffrey Blake back for a third conversation. The two talk about the SAG strike, life on the road, quitting Twitter, social-media weirdness, and the unpredictable reality of surviving in show business. Geoffrey is candid, sharp, and full of stories that feel like old-school Hollywood war tales told by someone who actually lived them.  The episode really shines when Geoffrey starts unpacking his career: chaotic Critters 3 practical effects, spotting Leonardo DiCaprio's star power early, having most of his Cast Away material cut, and sharing memories from Young Guns, Forrest Gump, Brink!, and more. The biggest takeaway is simple and brutally honest: if he could talk to his younger self, he'd say, "save your money."  Guest Info Geoffrey Blake is an American film and television actor born in Baltimore in 1962. He's best known to many fans as Wesley in Forrest Gump, and his film career also includes Young Guns, Contact, Cast Away, Apollo 13, Critters 3, FernGully: The Last Rainforest, and Midway. On television, he's appeared in projects including Renegade, Homefront, Any Day Now, House, Criminal Minds, The Man in the High Castle, Bridge and Tunnel, and Hotel Cocaine.  On this episode, Geoffrey comes across as exactly the kind of guest podcast audiences love: generous, self-aware, connected, and full of behind-the-scenes stories about actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney, Jack Palance, Terrence Stamp, Ed Burns, and Dermot Mulroney. Damn! We're in a tight spot! This week we are seeking treasure with Ulysses Everett McGill and his two companions, Pete and Delmar, in the 2000 Coen Brothers musical comedy O Brother, Where Art Thou? Based loosely upon The Odyssey, this movie was a big hit for The Coens at the time and the soundtrack was massive. But did anyone actually listen to it or was it all just awards hype? Does the early digital colour correction hold up or is it now a bit of an eyesore? Where does this movie rank in the Coen Brothers' filmography? Is it George Clooney's best comedic performance of all time? See you in the funny pages, boys... it's a bushwhack on this week's episode of Film Junk.

We're in a tight spot. This week on Be Kind Rewind, Dave & Cody dig into the Coen Brothers' O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), the Depression-era chain gang comedy that's (not so) secretly Homer's Odyssey and accidentally revived an entire genre of American music. We break down what holds up (this is George Clooney's coming out party), the murderer's row of character actors, Roger Deakins making Mississippi look like a sepia dream, and a soundtrack that won Album of the Year at the Grammys as a bluegrass record. We get into what's harder to sit with in 2026, the wild behind-the-scenes stuff (the Coens claim they never read the Odyssey, Clooney said yes without reading the script, the KKK scene is staged like The Wizard of Oz), and a Pastor's Corner on Ulysses Everett McGill as an Ecclesiastes figure who chases every title but bona fide and only finds his knees when the rope comes out. Plus: Adam Sandler officiated the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wedding and we have questions, we Muppetize the movie (Dave cheats), and we guess Clooney's top five highest-grossing films, with a number one that made us both genuinely angry.https://linktr.ee/PopCulturePastorPod

Politico's report centers on a sexual-assault allegation made by former partner Jenny Racicot against Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner. Platner has categorically denied the accusation, but the story immediately triggered calls from major Democratic leaders and organizations for him to withdraw from the race, putting his candidacy against Sen. Susan Collins in serious doubt. The Venice Film Festival is recognizing George Clooney not only for his success as a Hollywood star but also for his achievements as a filmmaker, producer, and humanitarian. The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement places him among the festival's most celebrated honorees and acknowledges a career that has spanned nearly five decades. O Brother, Where Art Thou? opened in five theaters on December 22, 2000, went on to make $71.9 million worldwide on a $26 million budget, and somehow got outdone by its own soundtrack — which sold over 8 million copies and beat out Bob Dylan and U2 for the Grammy for Album of the Year, only the third movie soundtrack ever to do it.Josh, Garrett, and David kick off Mythology Month with the Coens' loose, sun-bleached riff on the Odyssey. David's watched it since he was eleven and it's in his Letterboxd top four. Josh has loved it since childhood cassette-recording "Man of Constant Sorrow" off the radio. Garrett watched it for the first time this week — and tried to track the Homer parallels in real time, which he'll tell you was a mistake. They get into the Cyclops-with-an-eye-patch stuff, the Homer Stokes subplot and what it says about 1930s (and 2026) politics, and why George Clooney's pomade matters more than you'd think.Let us know what you think.

Escuchar audio

For our final look at Supergirl, we're returning to the DCEU. And also Earth 89, Earth 789, Earth 30, Earth 66, Earth 203, Earth 789, and a reboot. That's right, we're taking a look at The Flash (2023), which aimed to be both a love letter to and the end of the Zack Snyder DC Universe, while also serving as an introduction to James Gunn's DCU. All your favourites are back: Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck, George Clooney, and Adam West as Batman, along with Wonder Woman, Aquaman, a pretty solid interpretation of Supergirl from Sasha Calle, and Ezra Miller's The Flash, I guess, if you're into that kind of thing.
