Nathan Pearce, Founder of Pearce BeSpoke, describes how he initially became an owner-operator of a custom clothing business by testing his ability to sell custom suits.Pearce BeSpoke offers suits starting at $900, making them affordable and accessible to a broader demographic, including young professionals. Their average sale is around $1,500, but prices can go up to $2,500. The focus is on providing high-quality, affordable suits that appeal to a wider audience, particularly within a franchise model, as opposed to catering to the high-end $5,000 suit market.Nathan emphasizes the importance of building relationships and leveraging personal connections in sales, particularly in custom clothing. Sales reps and franchisees are encouraged to showcase their role as clothiers who personally create the clothing, which is seen as more engaging than selling more common services like real estate or insurance. Additionally, credibility is built by highlighting high-profile clients such as Eli Manning, Drew Brees, and Barron Trump, which speaks to the quality, service, and affordability of their products.Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe to stay updated with our latest episodes. EP 122 - Bob Trewyn, Why You SHOULDN'T Buy A Used Food Truck If you're building out a food truck, you're going to spend the same amount on your kitchen whether you upfit it into an old heap or a brand new chassis. So why invest all that money into something that could prove to be unreliable? Does that sound like a good business decision? Bob Trewyn is the Commercial Sales Manager at Russell Barnett Ford of Tullahoma and believes in commitment to his trade, to his dealer, to his manufacturer, to his product, and most of all, to his customer. He truly loves what he does, and therefore is constantly searching for the knowledge to provide his customers with a level of service that will set him apart from all others in his field. But most of all, he believes in providing his customers with the very best buying experience ever, and always being there to answer their questions and address their concerns, needs, and problems in the most professional way possible. What You Will Learn: How Bob got into the food truck slignin' business trying to convert people to build food trucks on new chassis instead of using used vehicles What exactly is the Foundation Food Truck and how does it differ from other chassis The difference between a food truck builder that's a fabricator or an assembler What makes the Foundation Food Truck easier to drive than most food trucks How going new versus used can help eliminate some hardships for food truck owners Why networking is so crucial and necessary to growing your business Favorite Quote: “They trade them in because they're worn out. Most of your used trucks are going to have anywhere from 100, 200, to 300,000 miles on them.” -Bob Trewyn Connect With Bob: BarnettFordTullahoma.net How To Get Involved: Patrick Bolanos is a serial entrepreneur, business owner, and CEO of Trailer King Builders in Houston, Texas. He was raised in Nicaragua, exposed to extreme poverty, and also had the fortune of being exposed to life in the United States traveling back and forth to both countries. After college, Patrick's career took him into the corporate world of banking where he learned the important lessons of understanding what you're selling and why it's important to believe in it. Back in December of 2017, Patrick was fired from his job as a CFO for a Restaurant Group. With only $500 to his name, rent due, his wife, 3 children at home, and one on the way, he was forced to figure out how to pull his family out of this financial abyss that was strangling his life. With no knowledge of how to build a trailer, Patrick simply figured all of it out and has now built it into the thriving empire of what's now become Trailer King Builders. LinkedIn Facebook Instagram

In this episode of the Jaded Mechanic podcast, host Jeff is joined by his friend Tanner Brandt to discuss the challenges of being a mobile diagnostic and programming technician in the automotive repair industry. They talk about the difficulties of diagnosing input problems and the lack of continued certification for doctors and nurses, as well as the lack of stringent requirements for training instructors in ATMC-accredited schools. They also share their perspectives on the industry and invite listeners to join the conversation. In this episode, the Jeff Compton and Tanner Brandt delve into the crucial topic of prioritizing mental health in the automotive industry. They shed light on the high levels of stress and burnout that are prevalent in the industry, particularly among those in diagnostic roles. The guests argue that it is imperative to teach young people how to manage stress and prevent burnout, especially with the increasing demands of technology and automation in the industry. They suggest that changes need to be made to the way shops are run, vacation time is taken, and the overall atmosphere in the workplace to support mental health. They also emphasize the need to pay attention to the mental health of experienced mechanics who may have been working in the industry for many years and may be experiencing burnout as a result. Overall, the guests stress the importance of creating a supportive and sustainable work environment in the automotive industry that prioritizes mental health and well-being.Jeff and Tanner discuss how small changes in the workplace can help alleviate stress and improve productivity. For instance, one technician was stressed out by waiters coming in the morning, which affected his work. Another technician noticed this and decided to come in 20 minutes later to help alleviate the stress. This small change helped the technician and improved productivity. The speakers also highlight the importance of taking breaks and finding stress relief activities. They talk about how fishing helped one of them improve their mental health. The speakers also discuss how teaching young people in the industry how to manage stress and find stress relief activities is important, especially with new technology coming that could increase burnout. The speakers also discuss how workload and stress can lead to high turnover rates in shops and how small changes, such as adjusting schedules or spreading out tasks, can help alleviate stress and improve productivity. Overall, the episode emphasizes the importance of recognizing and addressing stress in the workplace and making small changes to improve productivity and well-being.The episode also touches on the mental toll that certain types of work, specifically complex automobile repairs, can have on individuals. Tanner mentions that working six days a week, 10 hours a day may work for a short amount of time, but after 20 years, the person's mental health will likely be terrible. The speaker also talks about how certain cars can keep you up at night and drive you crazy, and how this type of work takes a different toll on a person than just stressing about making hours. The guest suggests that the industry needs to start teaching young people how to unplug and manage stress, or else burnout will become even worse. The mental toll of this type of work is also discussed in the context of differences in working conditions between different regions, such as the difficulty of repairing cars in areas with harsh weather conditions. Overall, the episode highlights the importance of taking the mental toll of certain types of work into account and making changes to address and prevent mental exhaustion.[00:01:36] Diagnostic challenges in automotive repair. Brandon Gilbert decided to put his business and mechanical engineering background to work in his own company when he started the Pittsburgh Mobile Tire Shop. After numerous subpar experiences at traditional repair stores, he decided that there had to be a better way to provide this important service. Low startup costs and lack of competition in the region enticed Brandon to launch a mobile operation where he could bring the tire shop directly to his customers. In this relaxing and low-pressure environment, people are free to ask questions and develop trust and rapport with him and his staff.Although Brandon became disenfranchised from years of corporate politics, he still needed to overcome the fear of starting his own business. Easing into it by working on it part time helped him to build the confidence to step out on his own. Today, he is leading a thriving operation in an economy that is looking for convenience more than ever before. South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc will wind down its loss-making mobile division after failing to find a buyer, a move that is set to make it the first major smartphone brand to completely withdraw from the market. An analyst at Hi Investment & Securities, Ko Eui-Young says in the United States, LG has targeted mid-priced models and that means Samsung, which has more mid-priced product lines than Apple, will be better able to attract LG users.LG’s smartphone division says it has logged nearly six years of losses totalling some $4.5 billion. Dropping out of the fiercely competitive sector would allow LG to focus on growth areas such as electric vehicle components, connected devices and smart homes.Analysts have also criticised the company for lack of expertise in marketing compared to Chinese rivals.

Victoria’s weekend hobby quickly became her passion when she started Pittsburgh’s first mobile flower business. Her vision was to bring beautiful, fresh flowers to all of our unique neighborhoods, especially the places that typically never get a visit from a business like hers. And after purchasing a 1992 Daihatsu Hijet and getting it fixed up and painted, she was able to bring that vision to life. Her tiny vintage-green truck with hand-painted logo has become a recognizable part of the Pittsburgh landscape, especially when it’s brimming with colorful blooms. By the way, driving this little dynamo is no small feat. Not only is it a stick shift, but the steering wheel is on the right-hand side, so you have to shift with your left hand. Victoria took driving lessons and practiced for several months before braving the hilly, winding roads of Pittsburgh. What do Victoria’s customers love most about her flower truck? It’s the ability to build their own customized bouquets with a little help, if needed. This is a kind of hands-on experience that you typically don’t get in a traditional flower shop. People enjoy the surprise of stumbling upon the truck while they’re out and about, which often results in a spontaneous and creative shopping adventure. So, keep an eye out, because once Victoria feels that she is able to safely set up shop again, I’m sure you’ll see her little green truck buzzing around the streets of Pittsburgh. If you have any questions or if you’d like to chat, you can reach me at my contact info below. The purpose of this podcast is to share ideas, inspire action, and build a stronger small business community here in Pittsburgh. Cheers to the Mobile business community, and the continued advancement of this economy. The prosperity that we're seeing, I think we've only scratched the surface. - Bill Sisson In this episode, Karen and guest host Michelle Crowe talk with the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Bill Sisson. Bill gives us his insights and the lay of the land for the Mobile, Alabama business environment. He also shares all the leadership resources available, networking opportunities, and all the ways for a local business to get the most out of their local chamber. Plus, Michelle Crowes explains how "Mobile is really a small town that acts like a big city" and why that a good thing. This episode is sponsored by Payroll Vault - Mobile, Alabama Click here to schedule your FREE Payroll Audit with Cadie. Key Takeaways Your local Chamber of Commerce has a ton of FREE educational and leadership resources to help grow your business. When considering a Chamber membership, always think about what do you want to get out of your membership. The most significant change in Mobile has been more and more focus on entrepreneurship and innovation. Competition is good, don't see other people as competition. Consider feeding your market. Don't stay in your bubble. Think about how large your business market can be. Resources Bill Sisson - Twitter | LinkedIn Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce - Website | Facebook Michelle Crowe - e-worc website | LinkedIn Learn more about Karen Simmons & Cadie Gaut Karen Simmons Payroll Vault - Mobile & Baldwin Counties Cheers To: It's hard to define business chambers because each one takes on the character of whatever community in which they're located. A chamber is only as good as its membership, and we would not be a chamber without that membership. Over 95% of businesses are classified as small in the Mobile, Alabama, metropolitan region. When considering a Chamber membership, always think about what do you want to get out of that membership. Then let us see if we can help you connect in the ways that will be a value add for you and your business. We are a large Chamber and have a big portfolio of opportunities for people to get involved. We have this tremendous talent here in the Mobile community. Really smart people are working very hard in various sectors. I think that's something to be proud of. The most significant change in Mobile has been more and more focus on entrepreneurship and innovation. The entrepreneurial ecosystem here in Mobile has exceeded my expectations in ways that I would have never imagined. There are some 28,000 micro-businesses in this area, and this shows me that we have a lot of pent up demand for entrepreneurial activity. What's unique about Mobile is that people are willing to work together and ready to come to the table together. And even though we're a fairly large metropolitan area, we culturally work like a small town. You don't talk about people in Mobile because it's a big small town. Somebody knows somebody. I've been here going on 17 years, and I still have every week have what I call a Mobile Moment where I realized that somebody is related to somebody, or is an ex-wife, or a best friend. What I like about the Mobile Business community is that people feel like they can be a part of something here. I think everybody truly wants to help each other out. I have found tenfold that if you help somebody else succeed, you're succeeding. Our phrase at the office is that we are a small town acting like a big city. The Mobile Mayor is everywhere, and I'm starting to wonder if there's more than one of them. I often hear that from newcomers to Mobile is just how connected everybody is here. I think we do that through entrepreneurship, and making sure that minority businesses that are starting up are getting the support network that they need to be successful so that we can grow that part of our population. Let's not be in a bubble. We need to be thinking about how large our market can be. What a lot of people are surprised about mobile is just how international it is. Eight of our top 10 manufacturers are internationally based. We have a lot of people from other countries that live here. So our market is global. And our small businesses need to realize that as well. Anybody who says there's nothing to do in Mobile, they're not trying to find something to do.

We saw this coming and now Google officially released a new sign up process for service area businesses, businesses that don't operate out of a specific location(s). Google now lets them specify the locations they service, instead of being stuck without any options. Google is testing a video overlay or lightbox feature to play videos in the mobile search results. In the search results captured by Valentin Pletzer on Twitter he showed how instead of being taken to the video landing page, Google shows the video itself in an overlay. Google has asked the National Labor Relations Board to reconsider rules allowing employees to organize over workplace email without fear of punishment, according to a Bloomberg report on Thursday. The Obama-era precedent restricts companies from disciplining employees who used internal email communication for actions such as circulating petitions, organizing walkouts, or trying to form a union, according to the report.

Dr. David Acheson, M.D., is the founder and CEO of The Acheson Group and brings more than 30 years of medical and food safety research and experience to provide strategic advice as well as recall and crisis management support to food companies and ancillary technology companies on a global basis on all matters relating to food safety and food defense. David graduated from the University of London Medical School and practiced internal medicine and infectious diseases in the United Kingdom until 1987 when he moved to the New England Medical Center and became an Associate Professor at Tufts University in Boston, studying the molecular pathogenesis of foodborne pathogens. Prior to forming The Acheson Group, David served as the Chief Medical Officer at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and then joined the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as the Chief Medical Officer at the FDA Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN). After serving as the director of CFSAN’s Office of Food Defense, Communication and Emergency Response, David was appointed as the Assistant and then Associate Commissioner for Foods, which provided him an agency-wide leadership role for all food and feed issues and the responsibility for the development of the 2007 Food Protection Plan, which served as the basis for many of the authorities granted to FDA by the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). From 2009 to 2013 he was a partner at Leavitt Partners where he managed Leavitt Partners Global Food Safety Solutions. David has published extensively and is internationally recognized both for his public health expertise in food safety and his research in infectious diseases. He is a sought-after speaker and regular guest on national news programs. He serves on a variety of boards and food safety advisory groups of several major food manufacturers. In this episode of Food Safety Matters, we speak to David Acheson about: His role in building the 2007 Food Protection Plan and how it parallels FSMA The importance of the food safety crises that took place in 2006 and 2007 The differences between food fraud, food security, food defense and food adulteration, and how sometimes these instances do not necessarily implicate a public health risk His advice to food companies gearing up to comply with FSMA's food defense regulations Facing the realities of determining whether your food plant is at risk of committing a food-related crime How to advocate for more or better resources, and how to convince the C-suite to invest in food safety Balancing food safety goals with a company's other metrics—sales, margins, etc. The main challenges he sees facing food companies His views on announced vs. unannounced audits How the Peanut Corporation of America debacle helped shape FSMA's Preventive Controls rule and how it forced some food companies to rebuild their own supply and control programs His thoughts on how legal roadblocks keep food safety violations from ever coming to light Articles by David Acheson in Food Safety Magazine Why Don't We Learn More from Our Mistakes? https://www.foodsafetymagazine.com/magazine-archive1/junejuly-2014/why-dont-we-learn-more-from-our-mistakes/ Industry Perspectives of Proposed FSMA Rule on Preventive Controls https://www.foodsafetymagazine.com/magazine-archive1/aprilmay-2013/industry-perceptions-of-proposed-fsma-rule-on-preventive-controls/ News Mentioned in This Episode FDA Reminds Public of Soy Nut Butter Recall https://www.foodsafetymagazine.com/news/fda-reminds-public-of-soy-nut-butter-recall/ Opponents Say USDA Reorganization has Multiple Problems http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2017/10/opponents-say-usda-reorganization-has-multiple-problems/#.We5sGpOnHUJ Raw Milk Dairy Out of Time to Appeal Retail License Suspension http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2017/10/raw-milk-dairy-out-of-time-to-appeal-retail-license-suspension/#.WeoVEhNSygR Why Is it So Hard to Track the Source of a Food Poisoning Outbreak? https://www.bostonglobe.com/magazine/2017/10/11/why-hard-track-source-food-poisoning-outbreak/6RD8EJru631SldqXHFx9mK/story.html Food Truck Commissary: The Foundation of a Mobile Business https://www.foodsafetymagazine.com/magazine-archive1/junejuly2016/food-truck-commissary-the-foundation-of-a-mobile-business/ Savor Safe Street Food https://www.foodsafetymagazine.com/magazine-archive1/junejuly-2015/savor-safe-street-food/
