This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.serioustrouble.showThis week in the free episode: the indictment of John Bolton and how it's pretty different from the Comey indictment, plus Trump's apparent demand that the Justice Department pay him $230 million for the indignity of being prosecuted.Paying subscribers also get to hear a dive into two wild NBA-related indictments that came down this week in the Eastern District of New York. One indictment alleges that conspirators, including an NBA coach and members of four of New York's Italian mafia families, ran rigged poker games to fleece unsuspecting players out of millions of dollars. The other alleges a conspiracy to fraudulently bet on NBA games — or more specifically, on propositions about NBA games — through the use of inside information. Both of these cases have crazy factual details, and the NBA betting one also involves some interesting, novel legal issues. Also: an update on lawsuits over National Guard deployments (and some theories about why an unfavorable ruling for Gavin Newsom did not get a rehearing en banc), a look at the case demanding that Speaker Mike Johnson hurry up and seat the Democrat who won a special election in Arizona several weeks ago, and an update on Hunter Biden-related litigation.Visit serioustrouble.show to upgrade your subscription.

Intro: Minutes 0 to 6:30 Chandra has been watching Dexter: Resurrection. She also watched The Materialists but doesn't recommend it. I saw One Battle After Another and enjoyed it. I loved The Long Walk. I have been watching a Canadian comedy called Corner Gas. Royals: Minutes 6:30 to Since we last recorded, the second season of With Love, Meghan came out and we've also had two drops of As Ever products. Harry did a four day tour of England in September, went to Ukraine and visited his dad. Meghan went to the Balenciaga show at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month. She looked serene, glowy and rich and her surprise appearance was a success. It came out that she's friends with Balenciaga's new creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli. He told The Cut that he's been friends with Meghan for years and that she asked if she could attend the show. There was a dumb manufactured controversy over Meghan's visit to Paris after she posted a little Instagram story of her feet while she was in a limo in Paris. The Daily Mail called the video insensitive and claimed she was driving near the tunnel in Paris where Princess Diana died. Meghan's video was taken over a kilometer away from the Pont de Alma tunnel. Meghan attended the Fortune Summit in Washington, DC last week where she talked about the future of her businesses. She also went to a women's networking dinner held by Emma Grede over the weekend. There was some ridiculous criticism of this dinner. On Friday, October 10th, Harry and Meghan were honored for their charity work at for World Mental Health Day in New York. Princess Kate co-authored a little essay ahead of that on how smartphones are bad. Harry and Meghan founded the Parents Network over a year ago and were being honored for that. Last week, around October 15th, Kate and Will made a surprise visit to Northern Ireland. They've been on vacation this week. On Friday, October 17th, Prince Andrew announced in the afternoon our time that he was voluntarily no longer using his titles. He's largely stepped back from royal life in the past few years but we've seen him at family events and it's obvious he has Charles' support. Charles was clearly trying to send a message to Harry by inviting Andrew to royal events. It looks like there was a deal worked out between Charles and Andrew that Andrew gets to keep Royal Lodge and his daughters get to keep their titles. Chandra thinks Charles believes Andrew's lies. We admire Virginia Guiffre for telling the truth. Andrew's announcement came a few days after we saw a 2011 email he sent Jeffrey Epstein after the release of Andrew's infamous photo with then 17-year-old Virginia Guiffre. Andrew wrote to Epstein “we are in this together” and “we'll play some more soon.” An email between Fergie and Epstein was also leaked. Fergie and Andrew wrote those emails after they claimed to have cut ties with Epstein. Fergie borrowed over $2 million from Epstein. I play a segment from an interview with British journalist Emily Maitlis, who interviewed Andrew for his infamous Newsnight interview. Andrew and ex wife Sarah Ferguson will continue to live in Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate, at least as long as Charles is alive. William wants to kick him out and there may be a parliamentary inquiry into his living arrangements. PM Kier Starmer supports an inquiry. Andrew still gets royal perks like being able to use other royal estates. Royal Lodge is sprawling, with a 30 room mansion, chapel, six cottages, pool and tennis court. Andrew has not paid rent in 20 years. He's said to spend his time playing Call of Duty and watching golf. William is trying to take credit for Andrew renouncing his titles. William has been briefing about how much he can't stand Andrew, but he was seen looking chummy with him recently. Beatrice visited her parents at Royal Lodge on Monday. There's some talk about removing Eugenie and Beatrice's titles, but Prince William doesn't seem to want this and they are blameless. Eugenie lives in Portugal is already half out but Beatrice seems to want to be a working royal. King Charles and Camilla visited the Vatican and met with Pope Leo. Camilla was wearing a black mantilla headpiece. They prayed together and it's the first time a British monarch and pope have prayed together in 500 years. This upcoming meeting was incentive for Charles to make a deal with Andrew to give up his titles. Comments of the Week: Minutes 29:30 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Rapunzel on the post about Trump asking Camilla for the gossip on Meghan. My comment of the week is from square bologna on Kristen Bell's post about her husband saying he would never kill her.

In this two-part episode Eugene Rabkin and Philippe Pourhashemi discuss this past season of many debuts, whether the so-called "great reset" was successful, and address two main narratives that are gripping the fashion media, the power and tact (or lack thereof) of the sideline fashion commentariat, and whether designers are out of touch with the needs of modern women. In episode one Eugene and Philippe discuss New York, London, and Milan, the debuts of Demna at Gucci, Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta, Simone Belotti at Jil Sander, and Dario Vitale at Versace (pronounced, Ver-says) and the democratization of fashion commentary. In episode two they talk about J.W. Anderson's first outing at Dior, Matthieu Blazy at Chanel, Duran Lantink at Gaultier, Glenn Martens at Maison Margiela, Miguel Castro Freitas at Mugler, and sophomore efforts by Michael Rider at Celine and Sarah Burton at Givenchy, among other shows. They also discuss the alleged misogyny on part of some designers. It's a lot, hence why we broke up this podcast into two episodes. Broadcasting from a rainy Seattle, Matt Trump celebrates the 200th anniversary of one of America's greatest engineering feats, the Erie Canal. In this thoughtful and entertaining Spellbreakers episode, Matt retraces how the canal reshaped the nation's geography, economy, and identity. From DeWitt Clinton's vision and the “Wedding of the Waters” to the War of 1812 and the rise of New York as America's dominant city, Matt connects the dots between canals, commerce, and the creation of the American spirit. He explores why the Erie Canal made the United States truly continental, linking the Great Lakes to the Atlantic, and even argues it may have set the stage for the Civil War by uniting the North and West. Blending humor, history, and reflection, Matt revives a forgotten cornerstone of America's story, one that turned muddy ditches into a nation's destiny.
Robert Johnson didn't just play the blues. He embodied them. He drank and womanized his way through the South, New York, and Chicago in the 1930s, until he finally met the devil at the crossroads for a little trade. So the legend goes, anyway. With the same soul he supposedly sold to the devil, Robert Johnson belted lightning blues that captured trouble in 12 bars. But the trouble he touted would eventually trickle into his own life, one bottle of poison at a time. Two very different experiences — one rooted in quiet, personal hauntings, the other in a dangerous game gone horribly wrong — combine to create one unforgettable episode of true paranormal stories. The first comes from Jamie in New York, who has always sensed things others miss. In Israel, standing among ancient mountain ruins, Jamie felt a tap on her shoulder though no one was near. Years later she saw a TV investigation filmed at the same ruins — capturing footsteps and voices exactly where she'd been touched. Back home, tragedy struck when Jamie's uncle passed away. Days after his death, she entered his apartment to feed the cats… and saw him sitting calmly at the kitchen table, gazing out the window. He disappeared the moment she blinked, but the unsettling feeling of being watched lingered — in the apartment hallway, even in the empty gym at night where a treadmill mysteriously shut off on its own. The second story shifts from eerie to downright chilling. A caller describes performing what was supposed to be a “safe” Reddit ritual at a friend's sleepover — a hypnotic game meant to reveal something about your life. Instead, her friend entered a vision where an unnaturally tall shadow figure appeared, whispered in her ear, and followed her down a hallway she claimed to see behind closed eyes. The friend awoke gasping for air and was never the same again. #TrueGhostStory #RealHaunting #ShadowFigure #RitualGoneWrong #HauntedRuins #ParanormalExperience #GhostEncounter #UnexplainedEvents #ScaryStoryTime #RealGhostStories Love real ghost stories? From Ravenna to New York, the visionary entrepreneur reflects on innovation, identity, and the art of sustainable style. Visionary entrepreneur Federico Marchetti shares his remarkable journey from the quiet streets of Ravenna to the vibrant world of New York City. As we chat, he offers a vivid window into the Feast of All Feasts in Little Italy, drawing playful contrasts with his hometown celebrations and humorously imagining a fusion of this street festival with New York Fashion Week. His story captures the search for belonging across cities—rooted in his formative years at Columbia Business School and his entrepreneurial triumphs in Milan, where he first married online technology with high fashion. Federico recounts the challenges and innovations that defined his path at the intersection of fashion and technology. He pioneered Italian e-commerce, overcoming logistical hurdles while bringing Italian elegance into the digital age. His insights reveal a delicate balance between creativity and machine efficiency, as he champions the integration of AI with traditional craftsmanship to promote sustainability and preserve the longevity of luxury fashion. Beyond business success—including the sale of his company for billions—Federico now devotes himself to initiatives that blend purpose with progress. His commitment to what he calls philanthropic industrialism reflects a desire to use innovation for good. Inspired by Giorgio Armani's harmony of creativity and discipline, Federico continues to shape the dialogue between culture, technology, and responsibility. This conversation celebrates fashion, vision, and the enduring pursuit of meaningful creation in a rapidly changing world. His work has been featured by such leading publications as New York Review of Books, The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, Esquire, Rolling Stone, and New York magazine. John's new book is The Tragedy of True Crime. John shares his surreal experience of being on a book tour while inside prison and reflects on his own personal experiences with the "true crime" genre. He also warns about the seductive nature -- and problematic relationship these shows have with reality -- of The First 48, Law and Order, Cops, and others in the reality TV show - crime entertainment genre. John explains how his new book goes beyond the sensationalistic headlines and explores the human side and complexity of four men who have been convicted of murder. Robert Chambers, the so-called “Preppy Killer” of 1980s tabloid fame Milton E. It's Friday, October 24th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Spanish priest acquitted on hate crime charges for criticizing radical Islam A Spanish Catholic priest who was facing three years in prison for making critical remarks about radical Islam nearly a decade ago has been acquitted, reports The Christian Post. The advocacy organization Abogados Cristianos announced in an X post last Friday that “The Malaga Court [acquitted] Pastor Custodio [Ballester], prosecuted for criticizing Islam: there is no hate crime.” In 2016, Ballester was charged with saying, “Islam does not allow for dialogue. You either believe or you are an infidel who must be subdued one way or another.” The Rev. Franklin Graham praised Ballester's acquittal as “good news” in an X post on Monday. A report published last month by the Spanish Observatory for Religious Freedom and Conscience found that 69% of the attacks were directed at Christians, while instances of antisemitism grew by 38% compared to 2023 and had increased by 867% since 2022. Senator Schumer's shutdown flip flop, afraid of an AOC challenge Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the Minority Leader of the U.S. Senate, has historically opposed government shutdowns. He opposed a shutdown on October 16, 2013. SCHUMER: “What if I persuaded my caucus to say I'm going to shut the government down. I'm going to not pay our bills unless I get my way. It's a politics of idiocy, of confrontation, of paralysis.” Then, Senator Schumer opposed a government shutdown on January 25, 2019. SCHUMER: “Shutting down government over a policy difference is self-defeating. We can never hold American workers hostage again.” And, as recently as March 13th of this year, Senator Schumer opposed a government shutdown then. SCHUMER: “While the [Continuing Resolution] bill is very bad, the potential for a shutdown has consequences for America that are much, much worse. Therefore, I will vote to keep the government open and not shut it down.” But now, Democratic Senator Schumer is leading the fight for the government shutdown, driven by the AOC/Sanders wing of his party. Listen to CNN's John Berman's introduction of his recent appearance. BERMAN: “Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who joins us now from Capitol Hill. Senator, I was saying that every Republican who's gone on TV the last, what nine hours or so, has called this the ‘Schumer Shutdown.” Later, Berman said this. BERMAN: “Everyone in Congress right now, on the Republican side, is really pointing the finger squarely at you personally. And one of the things they're saying is, this is about politics in New York, that you might face a primary from Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.” In fact, Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana said as much. KENNEDY: “Senator Schumer, his relationship with the truth is very casual. The truth is that this is a political shutdown. Senator Schumer is nervous as a pregnant nun about losing his re-election to the socialist wing of his party led by Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez, which is in control. “Now, we will eventually come out of this shutdown. Here's how I think it will happen. Senator Schumer is a smart man. He's been around a long time. His first car was a chariot. Washington is all he's ever known his entire life. He knows he's on shaky ground here in terms of policy. “So, here's how I think it'll end. Schumer will go to six or eight of his colleagues, Democrats of course, and say, ‘I want you to vote to lift the shutdown.' He'll say, ‘I can't vote with you. I've got to appear to be tough. I may even have to criticize you, but' -- wink wink, nod nod – ‘I'm trying to make the loon wing of the party love me, but you bail me out here.' But he's got to be careful with that, because he doesn't want it to look like a mutiny, because then he looks even weaker.” CA teacher to ICE: “They are not the only ones with guns in this city.” The Department of Homeland Security will refer a California teacher for a possible criminal probe after he made threatening comments toward immigration officials, reports WorldNetDaily.com. Listen to Los Angeles Unified School District history teacher Ron Gochez. GOCHEZ: “Don't forget where you're standing. This is South Central Los Angeles. They are not the only ones with guns in this city. They're not the only ones that don't forget that. And I don't say that because we're calling it for violence. I'm saying that because the people have every right to defend themselves against masked, unidentified gunmen with AR-15s and other military rifles.” Gochez founded the Los Angeles chapter of Union del Barrio—a revolutionary socialist movement that demands an end to capitalism and open borders from Alaska to Chile. The group sees communist dictators like Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, and Che Guevara as heroes. DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said that the teacher's comments endanger ICE agents' lives. New Bible story book injects sexual perversion, gender confusion, and woke ideology And finally, a new children's book of Bible stories claims that the Bible has "made-up" stories and events in its pages, drawing criticism from Focus on the Family, reports The Christian Post. The Just Love Story Bible, authored by Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis and Rev. Dr. Shannon Harris, reimagines 52 stories from the Old and New Testaments, weaving in sexual perversion, gender confusion, and woke ideology. For them, the Bible is not authoritative; they are. In the book's introduction to Genesis, the woke authors, who are part of the leftist Presbyterian Church (USA), write, "Some of the stories had made-up characters and events. Others were about real people and things that really happened." Harris, an associate dean at Auburn Theological Seminary in New York City, explained her motivation behind the project at a Q&A event for the book in September. HARRIS: “I wanted to do this project with Jackie, because when my kids were little, it was really hard to find a children's Bible that I didn't feel like I had to change some of the words. Like there might be stories that talked about God, like God was a boy (laughing) and only used kind of male language for God. Or they might tell a story, but they wouldn't tell enough about the story to understand whether it was about a made-up character or a real person.” Later, to the audience of parents and young children, she read an excerpt from her woke Just Love Story Bible in which she reinterpreted the plagues and other punishments that God had sent to get Pharoah's attention or the attention of His chosen people, the Jews. HARRIS: “Four natural disasters, one after the other. Well, the prophet and the people thought they were to blame. They thought that the disasters were God's way of punishing them. They didn't know that when bad things happen, like swarms of bugs, floods, earthquakes or tornadoes, it's not God's punishment, but it's easy to worry when bad things happen, to feel like God's angry at you, even when that's not true.” Inspired by the Joel 2:28 passage, Harris also imagined what a young person might envision. HARRIS: “So what did the young people prophesy back then? Perhaps one of them bravely announced to the prophets, priests and people: ‘I don't believe that our loving God sends terrible things to teach us a lesson.'” In an op-ed published by Focus on the Family's news arm, Daily Citizen, Paul Batura warned families about The Just Love Story Bible. He said, "[T]he motives of the authors appear broader and far more dangerous than merely trumpeting diversity. They also want to sow seeds of doubt in children's minds that the events depicted in the Bible are literally true, including the Resurrection.” He added, "Questioning the accuracy and authority of the Bible is hardly a new exercise, but so blatantly and openly selling such a heretical interpretation of God's Word to children undermines God's sacred Word in a particularly dangerous and destructive way." Indeed, 2 Timothy 4:3-4 says, “For a time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths." Lionel takes listeners on a wild ride, viewing the world, especially politics through the lens of an asylum. This episode exposes the absurdities of the political stage, dissecting the New York races and focusing on the strategy and "math" required to combat "sock puppet" politicians who are ill-equipped for governance. We confront twisted law enforcement priorities, questioning why massive resources are deployed for gambling busts, point shaving, and illegal poker games while issues like child trafficking, fentanyl, border security, organized crime, and globally funded domestic terrorism (Antifa) seem sidelined. Lionel shares brutal, fascinating insights from time spent in mental health facilities, including critical rules for survival: remember "they're crazy," don't stare, and never humor their delusion. Plus, sharp commentary on poor oratory (Eric Adams, Bloomberg's "El Bloomito" phase), the futility of political debates, and reflections on tragic history. Tune in as Lionel attempts to figure out. Synopsis: The mayoral candidate who's got the nation talking, Zohran Mamdani, is on track to make history as New York City's first Muslim-American and second Democratic Socialist mayor. This show is made possible by you! To become a sustaining member go to LauraFlanders.org/donateDescription: Wherever you are in the county, you've probably heard the name “Zohran Mamdani”. New York City's mayoral race is a national story, and it's hard to overstate the significance of the leading candidate in this moment. If elected, Mamdani would become the first Muslim-American and only the second Democratic Socialist Mayor of the largest city in the U.S. His victory, on a promise to make New York affordable for working people, would have implications for politics everywhere. The race is already garnering both excitement and anxiety. President Trump is threatening to withhold federal funding for New York City if Mamdani wins. From Chicago to Dearborn, Michigan, journalists are watching. In this installment of “Meet the BIPOC Press”, Laura Flanders speaks with Felipe De La Hoz, investigative immigration and policy reporter whose work has been featured in The Intercept, The Washington Post, New York Mag and The Nation; Osama Siblani, publisher and founder of The Arab American News, the largest Arab American newspaper in the U.S., and Asha Ransby-Sporn, organizer and writer for In These Times and co-founder of Black Youth Project 100, where she led the group's national organizing program. Join us as we explore what a Mamdani victory would signal for the nation.“. . . There's this sense that [Left-leaning candidates] have to essentially be apologizing for their policy prescriptions and their stances. Mamdani has not done that . . . For the most part, he very much embraces who he is and what his policy prescriptions are.” - Felipe De La Hoz“I hate giving labels. I don't look at Mandani as a progressive. I look at him as representing the anger and anguish of people who have been left behind with the political apparatus.” - Osama Siblani“More so than I am concerned with Black people being pulled to the Right or being pulled in by Trump . . . I think what we see are people who are disengaged and feel like our political system isn't going to deliver for them at all. Who feel let down by the establishment Democratic party that has sold all of us out for decades, and Black people have borne an enormous amount of the brunt of that impact.” - Asha Ransby-SpornGuests:• Felipe De La Hoz: Immigration & Policy Reporter, Epicenter NYC• Asha Ransby-Sporn: Writer & Political Strategist; Columnist, In These Times• Osama Siblani: Publisher, The Arab American NewsFull Conversation Release: While our weekly shows are edited to time for broadcast on Public TV and community radio, we offer to our members and podcast subscribers the full uncut conversation. Ed Koch. Donald Trump. Rudy Giulian. Al Sharpton. Spike Lee. And more. They were the tabloid gods of New York at a pivotal time in the City's modern history - a time when several issues erupted into crises that caused chaos in NYC and made national headlines. And we discuss them in this interview because many of those issues persist to this day, and continue to polarize NYC's population and politics.
In his analysis for the Autopsy television special, Dr. Hunter concluded that Epstein's injuries were consistent with suicide, not homicide, though he emphasized that the case was riddled with anomalies that “rightfully raise suspicion.” Hunter reviewed the autopsy photos, injury reports, and toxicology findings released by New York officials and determined that the hyoid bone fractures—which Dr. Michael Baden claimed were more typical of strangulation—could also occur in older men who hang themselves, particularly given Epstein's age and the height of his cell bunk. Hunter said the blood pooling, ligature marks, and asphyxial patterning on the neck aligned with hanging but acknowledged the environment and timing of Epstein's death made it “one of the most poorly managed high-profile incarcerations in modern American history.”to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com
Virginia Roberts Giuffre's unpublished memoir The Billionaire's Playboy Club recounts her recruitment into Jeffrey Epstein's world as a 16-year-old working at Mar-a-Lago, where she says Ghislaine Maxwell lured her in with promises of opportunity and travel. The manuscript describes how she became trapped in Epstein's orbit, allegedly forced into sexual encounters with powerful men, including Prince Andrew, and ferried across his properties in New York, Florida, and the Virgin Islands. Giuffre paints a detailed picture of coercion, psychological manipulation, and the disturbing normalization of exploitation within Epstein's high-society circle. In this episode, we begin our journey through that memoir. to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Virgina Giuffre Billionaire's Playboy Club | DocumentCloud

Episode Summary: In this special crossover episode of the Solar Maverick Podcast, host Benoy Thanjan sits down with Ana Conde from PVcase originally featured on her Watt Matters Podcast to break down one of the most critical stages of solar project development: site selection and feasibility. From choosing the right land and navigating interconnection hurdles to understanding permitting, moratoriums, and evolving market dynamics, Benoy shares hard-earned lessons from developing over 100 MW of solar projects across the U.S. He also discusses how technology, AI, and relationships all play a role in finding and executing the right solar sites. This conversation is packed with practical insights for developers, EPCs, investors, and anyone who wants to understand how the best projects actually get built. Topics Covered: What truly defines a “good” solar site and how to spot red flags early How developers can evaluate flat land, proximity to three-phase power, and interconnection feasibility The growing challenges in saturated markets like New York and New Jersey How to navigate solar moratoriums, endangered species issues, and permitting Real-world lessons from community solar and rooftop projects, including NYCHA's Harlem portfolio The role of AI, GIS tools, and automation in speeding up site selection and design Why relationships, transparency, and trust still matter more than ever How the “Big Beautiful Bill” and regulatory uncertainty are reshaping the solar landscape Trends shaping the future: solar + storage, repowering assets, and new market geographies Notable Quote: “At the end of the day, you can have all the technology in the world, but if you can't build relationships, it's a lot harder to develop great projects. People do business with those they know, like, and trust.” Key Takeaway: Solar success starts long before construction. Smart site selection, community engagement, and disciplined feasibility analysis separate projects that thrive from those that never get off the ground.
