On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, Sen Alex Padilla barging into a Kristi Noem press conference shows a pattern of violent, lawless behavior by Democrats. Democrats reflect their violent base and their violent base represents Democrats. Padilla could have coordinated with Noem instead of causing this show. The Democrat Party is a Marxist party that represents Islamists, antisemites, Stalinists, and criminals.  They've given up on the American citizens. Also, Representatives Elise Stefanik, Jim Jordan, Byron Donalds, and Nick Langworthy shined at a hearing on sanctuary states. They held Governors Kathy Hochul, JB Pritzker and Tim Walz to account. Later, a federal judge in San Francisco expressed skepticism about the constitutionality of President Trump's order to deploy National Guard troops to Los Angeles to quell anti-ICE riots. The president has clear authority to federalize and deploy the National Guard, supported by statutes and precedent.  Afterward, Trump's stance is clear: Iran must never get nuclear weapons. His 77 million voters heard him loud and clear—not the so-called “MAGA leaders” pushing isolationism. That's not Trump; it's Koch, Soros, and Rand Paul's world, not his. He's Reagan—peace through strength, not Bernie Sanders or Noam Chomsky. The isolationists dodge Iran's threats, deny their nuclear ambitions, and blame Israel while ignoring the assassination attempt on Trump himself. Where's their plan? Let Iran aim nukes at us? Blackmail our allies? They've got no answers, just tired Marxist rehashes and attacks on our history. If Trump acts to protect us, support him, our military, and, yes, Israel. Don't smear him as abandoning MAGA—he's keeping his promise. In addition, On Power explains that in his 1792 essay, James Madison explores the concept of property rights, expanding the term beyond mere physical possessions to include personal rights and freedoms. Property encompasses everything a person values and has a right to, such as opinions, religious beliefs, personal safety, liberty, and the free use of their faculties. Madison argues that a just government must protect all forms of property—both tangible and intangible—impartially.  Finally, in breaking news the Israeli Air Force has launched strikes on Iran, with explosions reported in Tehran. This was inevitable, Iran was never going to give up its nukes. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Turns out the block where the pyramid stands has a long and storied history. We dig into all that, as well as how public perception of the pyramid's place in the skyline has changed over the past 50 years. Joshua Hershman: Combining Casting, Coldworking and Photography in Groundbreaking Sculpture

An American born artist dedicated to developing new techniques of glass working, Joshua Hershman combines optical physics with the fluidity of glass to make his contemporary sculpture. By harnessing light though hand-polished lenses, he employs unique methods of casting, coldworking, and photography in his boundary pushing work.  Hershman states: “My work offers meditations on the complexities within the concept of photography and the repercussions of the camera's impact on culture. The incredibly creative and destructive nature of photography is both inspiring and alarming to me. It has helped bring our global society closer together but also driven us desperately apart. It can teach us or deceive us, show us the furthest reaches of space, or the closest representations of matter itself. It is these contrasting realities that exist within photography, which inspire my works of contemporary art.” Being born with no peripheral vision or depth perception, decades of vision therapy led Hershman to his lifelong fascination with the complex nature of the visual system and the science of light and optics. By using cameras themselves as frames for his experimental photographic processes, he asks us to look more closely into the simple act of taking a photograph. His work focuses on the significance that film and photography have played on the development of contemporary global culture.  More recently Hershman's work has focused on the torus — the most common shape found in galaxy formations and human cellular biology. His series, Messier Objects, was named after the French astronomer Charles Messier, who famously catalogued anomalous objects that confused his search for comets in the night sky. Originally from Colorado, Hershman was born in 1981 and first began working with glass at the age of 17. In 2004, he graduated from the Craft and Design Program at Sheridan College in Ontario, Canada. In 2008, he went on to earn a BFA with Distinction from the California College of the Arts in Oakland, California. Most recently, he completed the Master's program at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in Sculptural/Dimensional Studies.  In 2009, Hershman had his first solo exhibition at Pismo Glass in Denver and went on to participate in many group exhibitions and art fairs including Sofa Chicago, the Armory Show, Art Hamptons, SF Art Market, the Habatat Invitational, and many others. He loves to teach and has led workshops and lectures at California College of the Arts, Public Glass in San Francisco, Pittsburgh Glass Center, and at D&L Glass Supply in Denver. Hershman has received numerous awards, was included in the Bullseye Emerge international glass competition, Young Glass 2017, and can be found in numerous private collections. His work is included in the permanent collection of the Ebeltoft Museum in Denmark, The National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, and Museum of Glass, Tacoma (MOG). In fact, MOG exhibited Hershman's sculpture in the nation's first LGBTQ+ glass exhibition titled Transparency. He has been invited to participate in several artist-in-residence programs including North Lands Creative Glass in Scotland, D&L Art Glass in Colorado, the Appalachian Center for Craft in Tennessee, and most recently completed a semester-long residency at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. The artist worked for Berengo studio in Murano, Italy, where he made work for the world's leading contemporary artists. Living and operating a private studio in Los Angeles, California, Hershman makes his personal work and also operates the Glass Foundry, which provides casting and coldworking services to other artists. Additionally, he is employed at Judson Studios, where he's currently working on a large-scale architectural glass project for James Jean. “Casting glass was something I could do in isolation in my studio which was a huge advantage during the pandemic. Without the need for a furnace or lots of facilities, this process allowed me to make a highly challenging sculpture without the need for a team of assistants or expensive equipment. I think what draws me most to lost wax casting is the constant challenge and problem solving that is required to get a high-quality casting.”

Police and Gangs, Her Battle With The Department and Court. In the gritty streets of California's Bay Area, former police officer Janelle Perez patrolled neighborhoods ravaged by gang violence, battling not only criminal organizations but also the very department she once proudly served. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website , Apple Podcasts , Spotify and most major podcast platforms. “I came into law enforcement with purpose,” Janelle shared during an interview on The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show which is featured as a free podcast episode available on their website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and many podcast platforms. The episode is also promoted across their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other platforms. “But I never imagined that the hardest fight I'd face wouldn't be with the gangs, but with my own department.” Janelle Perez is a former Bay Area police officer whose career was defined by front-line encounters with violent gangs like the Sureños, Norteños, and Wah Ching, organized groups deeply rooted in California's urban corridors which also grew into the suburbs. In her role, she confronted everything from drug trafficking to gangland turf wars fueled by stolen firearms and fear. But her story doesn't end with arrests and patrols. Her memoir, The Moral Police, tells a deeper story. It chronicles her unexpected and painful descent from decorated officer to plaintiff in a courtroom battle against the police department that dismissed her. Police and Gangs, Her Battle With The Department and Court. Look for supporting stories about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium , Blogspot and Linkedin . Perez was fired after eight months with the Roseville Police Department, she says for an off-duty relationship with a fellow officer during her separation. She took her case to the court, citing gender discrimination and privacy violations. Her battle stretched across seven years and reached the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, where she initially won. But that victory was later overturned. “It wasn't just a legal fight,” Janelle said. Janelle, a Penn State graduate in Justice Administration and Sociology, became a voice for reform and an advocate for female leadership in law enforcement. In her podcast interviews and media appearances, she says that the justice system often fails its own, especially when gender dynamics and departmental politics collide. Throughout her time in law enforcement, Perez worked in communities where gangs weren't just a threat, they were a way of life. From the Eddy Rock and Knock Out Posse gangs in San Francisco to major prison gangs like the Mexican Mafia, Nuestra Familia, and Aryan Brotherhood, she navigated a violent landscape that demanded vigilance, intuition, and resilience. “These gangs enforce their own kind of law,” Perez explained. “And when the actual justice system fails from the inside, it becomes hard to tell who you're really fighting.” Police and Gangs, Her Battle With The Department and Court. Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast platforms. Statistics underscore the challenges she faced. By the early 1990s, California had become a hub for gang activity, with thousands of organized groups and hundreds of thousands of members. Urban centers like Oakland, San Jose, and Richmond became battlegrounds where gang-related homicides and turf wars eclipsed many other forms of crime. According to national surveys, gang membership and criminal incidents surged between 1991 and 1993, peaking at over half a million members and hundreds of thousands of gang-related crimes. In these conditions, law enforcement officers walk a razor-thin line. “When you're confronting people who operate by their own rules, you expect your department to have your back,” Janelle said. “But that's not always the case. And that's what hurts the most.” The Moral Police doesn't just delve into the systemic flaws of the police system. It's a call for accountability, leadership, and reform. Through her writing, radio interviews, and podcast appearances, Janelle Perez shines a light on the importance of transparency in law enforcement—especially when those in power misuse it. You can listen to her stories and interview on our website for free in addition to platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and other major podcast platforms. Her story resonates across social platforms and professional networks, drawing attention from news outlets and discussion forums alike. The Facebook and Instagram comments are filled with encouragement. LinkedIn readers are engaging with posts about her on workplace equity and integrity. Police and Gangs, Her Battle With The Department and Court. “I wanted to inspire others not to stay silent. Whether you're in law enforcement, education, or tech, speak up when something is wrong,” she said. “You shouldn't have to lose your job to hold leadership accountable.” Now, Janelle continues to share her journey and advocate for those who feel silenced within institutions meant to protect and serve. Her podcast appearances are gaining momentum, and her book is sparking conversation in communities far beyond California. Her story is about much more than a badge. It's about courage, conviction, and confronting the battles that exist both outside and within the blue line. Super-creative, virtuoso pianist, Holly Bowling joins the show in the first-ever podcast recorded in The Green Room at Garcia's Chicago. Holly shares the etiology of her genre-crossing and improvisational style in between her two incredible debut appearances at this spectacular venue - playing the music of Phish and The Grateful Dead on solo piano! The episode delves into Holly's classical training, influences, and balancing the dual aspects of meticulous arrangement and spontaneous performance in her work, highlighting her diverse approaches to both solo and collaborative concerts.Holly fondly recalls with the hosts her time learning under Phil Lesh at Terrapin Crossroads and the impact it had on her musical career and relationships. The conversation takes listeners behind the scenes of Holly's musical endeavors during the pandemic, uniquely recording while immersed in spectacular national landscapes (The Wilderness Sessions), and how she cleverly lured GreenSky Bluegrass into her world. Holly also provides a glimpse into her personal life, including her experiences as a mother and the musical talent of her young son, Ryland.HIGHLIGHTSThe whole point of playing music for other people is to connect emotionally.  It's the sameness of the human experience… we're all human doing this life thing together. My favorite shows I've ever attended are the ones where there is that kind of emotional range and depth, whether it's total joy and ecstasy to shows where I have wept in public.  -Holly Bowling on how she uses the piano to evoke the emotions and feelings of an audience, much in the same way Jerry Garcia did with his guitar.I'm really excited about it. Everyone's like, “you're doing a solo piano show, a quiet listening thing at Cervantes?” I'm like, yes. It's going to be amazing. We're gonna totally turn the expectations upside down. It's also a party.  My shows are a much more inward experience, so we're going to drop a grand piano in there, put seats in, and transform it in a way that most people have never seen Cervantes.                                                  -Holly Bowling on playing a show at the Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver on July 2, 2025, the night before Phish's run in Boulder.LINKShttps://www.hollybowling.com/https://www.youtube.com/@HollyBowlingHolly Bowling Live Shows on nugs.nethttps://garciaschicago.live/ HOLLY BOWLING SUMMER SHOWS (2025)June 13-26: Northlands Music & Arts Festival, Swanzey, NHJune 22: Tower Theatre, Bend, ORJune 30: Alpenglow Concert Series, Crested Butte, COJuly 2: Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom, Denver, COJuly 3-6: High Sierra Music Festival, Quincy, CAJuly 17-18: SFJAZZ Center,  San Francisco, CAJuly 20, 2025: Terrapin Road Show, San Rafael, CAAugust 1-3: Kaslo Jazz Etc. Postmodern Patrimonialism. That's the term Brookings Institution scholar Jonathan Rauch uses to describe Trump's second presidency, arguing it represents a 21st century model of running government as if it's his own personal property. Rauch describes Trump 2's "everything everywhere all at once" strategy as a venture capital-like approach: launching numerous initiatives simultaneously to overwhelm opposition, expecting some to succeed while recognizing that others will fail. Noting that this strategy has slowed since March due to court challenges and declining approval ratings, Rauch discusses the institutional breakdown of Congress, the emergence of Gavin Newsom as the apex of the resistance to Trump 2, and identifies Stephen Miller and Russell Vought as key strategic masterminds behind the administration's coordinated assault on universities, law firms, and democratic norms. Five Key Takeaways * Patrimonialism, Not Fascism: Rauch has shifted from describing Trump as fascist to "patrimonial"—running government as personal property and family business. This model is less organized than fascism but equally corrosive to democratic institutions.* "Everything Everywhere All at Once" Strategy: Trump's administration deliberately overwhelms opposition by launching simultaneous attacks on multiple fronts (universities, law firms, agencies, individuals), making coordinated resistance nearly impossible.* Congressional Institutional Collapse: America has effectively moved from a three-branch to two-branch government, with Congress absent as a check on executive power—a more fundamental threat than Trump himself.* Democratic Governors as Resistance Leaders: Figures like Gavin Newsom are emerging as the most effective opposition voices, using states' rights to challenge federal overreach in ways Congress cannot.* Miller and Vought as Strategic Masterminds: Stephen Miller (immigration/security) and Russell Vought (domestic policy/OMB) are identified as the key architects behind the administration's coordinated assault on democratic institutions.Jonathan Rauch is a senior fellow in the Governance Studies program at the Brookings Institution and the author of eight books and many articles on public policy, culture, and government. He is a contributing writer of The Atlantic and recipient of the 2005 National Magazine Award, the magazine industry's equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize. His many Brookings publications include the 2021 book “The Constitution of Knowledge: A Defense of Truth”, as well as the 2015 ebook “Political Realism: How Hacks, Machines, Big Money, and Back-Room Deals Can Strengthen American Democracy.” Other books include “The Happiness Curve: Why Life Gets Better after 50” (2018) and “Gay Marriage: Why It Is Good for Gays, Good for Straights, and Good for America” (2004). In part one of our Webby-nominated series Before Legal Weed, host Ellen Scanlon brings you the untold story of how San Francisco's gay community turned to cannabis during the darkest days of the AIDS crisis—and how a woman-run cannabis operation called Sticky Fingers Brownies quietly became a lifeline. You'll meet Meridy Volz, a mother delivering pot brownies on roller skates through the Castro in the 1980s, and her daughter, author Alia Volz, who grew up watching a revolution unfold from the back of a stroller. Through powerful personal stories and rarely heard history, you'll learn: How a women-run cannabis business became a lifeline for the gay community What it was like to grow up in San Francisco during the height of the AIDS epidemic Why this story still matters in today's conversations around cannabis as medicine

It's Tuesday, June 10th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Panama grants asylum to 11 Iranian Christians Eleven Christian asylum seekers from Iran have been given a 6-month reprieve in Panama. A 27-year-old woman, Artemis Ghasemzadeh,  told International Christian Concern that “If you're a Muslim and you convert to Christianity, it's a problem. The police want to catch you.” The Christians will continue searching for a country that will take them to avoid repatriation, imprisonment, and possibly death if they return to Iran. According to Open Doors, Iran is the ninth most dangerous country worldwide for Christians. Cuban prosecutors threatening pastor and wife with prison Cuban prosecutors are threatening eight years of imprisonment for a Christian pastor and his wife who mentioned God in a public trial. Pastor Luis Guillermo Borjas and  his wife, Roxana Rojas, of the Assemblies of God, were detained on May 19th for mentioning God's justice in a trial involving their son. The trial for the couple is scheduled for this week. Please keep Pastor Luis and his wife Roxana n your prayers. Open Doors reports that Cuba is the 26th most difficult country worldwide in which to be a Christian. Franklin Graham: We need evangelists who are unafraid and unapologetic A thousand delegates attended the European Congress on Evangelism in Berlin, Germany at the end of last month.   Fifty-nine years ago, Evangelist Billy Graham addressed the first European Congress on Evangelism in Berlin. BILLY GRAHAM: “The city of Berlin has influenced the world in every field. What a place from which to shout to the world: Christ is the Savior.” On May 30th, Evangelist Franklin Graham, his son, addressed the conference as well. FRANKLIN GRAHAM: “The Gospel has power. We're going to reach Europe. We need an army -- an army of evangelists -- unafraid, unashamed, unapologetic, uncompromising.” In his closing remarks, Graham spoke of the opposition he received in England recently. He said, “When we were losing our contracts in the U.K., it was coming from the LGBT+ community. They were the ones opposing us, who have the rainbow flags, which I see as the flags for the anti-Christ. And they wanted to have victory. Well, God gave us victory! … This is the group coming after us. … “So, don't compromise, and be strong. Fulfill your ministry. We know there's going to be suffering and challenges, some fights, but let's be strong. We go in the power of the name of Jesus Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords.” Conservative Columbian presidential candidate shot in head The conservative candidate for President in Columbia, Miguel Turbay, was shot three times on Saturday, twice in the head. The 39-year-old senator remains in serious condition in a Bogota hospital.  U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “We stand in prayer with Miguel's family, loved ones, and his supporters. Those responsible for this attack must face justice.” Lenin statue toppled in Kyrgyzstan The legacy of atheist tyrants does not last forever. Kyrgyzstan is removing a 75-foot-tall monument of Vladimir Lenin in the city of Osh.   Photos showing Lenin's statue face down on the ground were made public over the weekend. This comes as Moscow has just installed a large monument to the communist  dictator Joseph Stalin in a city subway. Keep in mind Psalm 49:12-13, 16. It says, “Man in his pomp yet without understanding is like the beasts that perish. This is the path of those who have foolish confidence; yet after them people approve of their boasts.  …  Be not afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases. For when he dies, he will carry nothing away; his glory will not go down after him.” (ESV) CA protestors clash with ICE over illegals; Trump send 2,000 troops California protestors who are at odds with the Trump administration's policy on arresting illegal immigrants have taken to the streets, creating mayhem in major cities, reports The EpochTimes.com. Police arrested 150 protesters in San Francisco, and about 60 in Los Angeles over the weekend. The riots started with protestors attempting to thwart Immigration and Custom Enforcement's arrests in Los Angeles on Friday. President Trump has deployed 2,000 National Guard troops.  California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom is calling for a withdrawal. Plus, California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a court order attempting to gain a restraining order on the deployment.  Silver hits an all-time high Silver has hit a 13-year high — topping out around $36.70 per ounce on Monday. Gold is still hovering around $3,330 per ounce. The gold to silver ratio is still about the highest it has been in history — right around 90:1. The ratio has averaged around 65:1 since the year 2000. Historically, prior to the 1920s,  the ratio was about 20:1.  Michael Tait of Christian band Newsboys confesses to sexual sin The Contemporary Christian Music band, Newsboys, revealed over the weekend that lead singer, Michael Tait confessed to having been leading a “double life.”   This comes after a lengthy investigative report was released from the Julie Roys organization, alleging drug abuse and the sin of homosexual behavior on the part of the lead singer. The report included multiple testimonies of scandalous behavior dating back as far as 2005. Michael Tait was a founding member of dc Talk, another big Christian Contemporary band from the 1990s. The two bands won 20 Dove Awards and four Grammys combined.   The Newsboys group was featured in the films God's Not Dead, God's Not Dead 2, and God's Not Dead: A Light in Darkness. Actor Tim Allen reading through whole Bible Tim Allen, known for his role in the sitcom Home Improvement, is reading through the whole Bible. He posted on X that since beginning the challenge last year, he's finished reading the whole Old Testament. He called the read a “humbling overwhelming experience.” And, he said, “What a treasure!” Allen just posted that he is in the book of Romans. He announced last year that this would be the first time he has ever read the Bible.  Psalm 19:8, 10-11 says, “The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover, by them, Your servant is warned. And in keeping them, there is great reward.” See The American Miracle movie tonight Last night, I brought my family to see The American Miracle docudrama in San Antonio, Texas. It's in 1,000 theaters through Wednesday, June 11th.  We loved it.  It was inspirational to learn about God's providential intervention in human history to enable America to win the War for Independence against seemingly insurmountable odds. We especially enjoyed hearing a portion of Daniel Webster's speech given on July 4, 1826, on the 50th anniversary of the birth of America  and the deaths that day of Thomas Jefferson, age 83,  and John Adams, age 90.  TAYLOR:  “My name is James Arnold Taylor. I played Daniel Webster in The American Miracle. The most powerful thing is the power of Providence on this country that we have forgotten. I can't wait for everybody to be blessed by this film and to know that we're here for a purpose and that God has a plan.” The people who have seen the film, including this homeschool mom, have raved. HOMESCHOOL MOM: “I was very inspired by this film. I'm just a home school mama who just finished 25 years of homeschooling my three kids.  And as I was watching this film, I thought, ‘I've poured into my kids. Now, I wish so many other people could hear this story.' This message could go out to so many kids who don't have the privilege of homeschooling.” MOM #2: “This movie will help you equip your children to understand the true history of America.” Go to www.AmericanMiracleMovie.com, watch the trailer, click on the Tickets tab, type in your zipcode, and purchase tickets for tonight or Wednesday night since it's only in the theaters for a total of three days. 21 Worldview listeners gave $2,439.20 to fund our annual budget And finally, toward our midpoint goal of $61,750 to fund half of The Worldview newscast's annual budget by this Friday, June 13th, 21 listeners stepped up to the plate.  We surpassed our 20-donor goal by one donor. We discuss cultureful brands, regenerative economics, and a host of other important new concepts. We also dive into how their own agency is empathically designing their new studio space to support diverse working styles, rejecting the one-size-fits-all open office in favor of an environment where everyone can thrive. To access the episode transcript, please search for the episode title at www.TheEmpathyEdge.comKey Takeaways:A brand is more than just the logo. A brand is how a customer interacts with every aspect of your company, which begins with listening and understanding.Listening is a key component of human respect. Listening builds trust and respect, which makes for a better relationship and better work. Honesty and directness are also empathy. You can have boundaries and give constructive feedback and still be empathetic. Lying is not empathetic. "Without that internal change, you cannot manifest external change. Welcome to Art is Awesome, the show where we talk with an artist or art worker with a connection to the San Francisco Bay Area. In this Episode, Emily chats with "The Button Man", Harlem artist Beau McCall, an artist renowned for his unique use of buttons in wearable and visual art. McCall's work is featured in prominent collections such as New York's Museum of Arts and Design and London's Victoria and Albert Museum. McCall recounts his upbringing in Philadelphia, his move to Harlem, and his early inspirations. He explains how his fascination with buttons began with his mother's collection and grew through various craft classes. McCall shares memories of his artistic evolution, his experiences with the Harlem community, and the personal significance of his work, including tributes to friends lost to AIDS. The episode concludes with McCall's advice to aspiring artists and a nod to his ongoing support from his mother.About Artist Beau McCall :Drawing inspiration from the vast button collection of his mother and family, Beau McCall creates wearable and visual art by applying clothing buttons onto mostly upcycled fabrics, materials, and objects. With deliberate focus the buttons are arranged to stimulate one's curiosity and imagination, while simultaneously drawing attention to the unique history of buttons. Thereby McCall's work generates a discussion surrounding many topics such as pop culture and social justice.McCall began his professional career in Harlem in the 1980s after arriving from his native, Philadelphia with nothing more than a few hundred dollars, a duffel bag, and buttons. Circa 1988 he made his critically acclaimed wearable art debut at The Harlem Institute of Fashion (HIF) show for HARLEM WEEK. McCall went on to become an established force within HIF's Black Fashion Museum collective presenting at their shows consecutively through circa 1995, as well being featured in their museum exhibitions and prestigious events. During this time, McCall's visually captivating work was featured in the fashion bible Women's Wear Daily, on the PBS version of George C. Wolfe's The Colored Museum (1991), and in the award-winning film Quartier Mozart (1992), directed by Jean-Pierre Bekolo. The film won prizes at film festivals in Cannes, Locarno, and Montreal and was nominated, in 1993, for a British Film Institute award.McCall eventually applied his mastery of the button to visual art. Since then, he's been proclaimed by American Craft magazine as “The Button Man.” His visual and wearable art has been included in exhibitions at The Museum at FIT, Nordstrom, the African American Museum in Philadelphia, Houston Museum of African American Culture, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Stax Museum of American Soul Music, the Langston Hughes House in partnership with the inaugural Columbia University Wallach Art Gallery Uptown triennial and StoryCorps, and Rush Arts Gallery. McCall's work is held in the permanent collection of public institutions and by private individuals including the Museum of Arts and Design (New York), Philadelphia Museum of Art (Philadelphia), Victoria and Albert Museum (London), The Museum at FIT (New York), Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (New York), Amistad Research Center (New Orleans), The Museum of Modern Art Library (New York), Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art (New York), Stonewall National Museum & Archives (Fort Lauderdale), and The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Library (San Francisco), Cyndi Lauper's True Colors Residence, Debbie Harry of Blondie, Jeffrey Gibson, and Cristina Grajales. McCall has also been commissioned by the Museum of Arts and Design, Columbia University, and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. And his wearable art can be found in gift shops including the Newark Museum of Art. McCall has been featured in the NY Times, Associated Press, NPR, L.A. Times, and more. In addition, he has served as a teaching artist at the Newark Museum of Art, the New York Public Library, and the Harlem Arts Alliance. McCall has also created a wearable art line called, Triple T-shirts. For these pieces, he upcycles three T-shirts by combining them into one flowing garment that can be worn in six different ways. Each style—from poncho to hoodie to shawl and beyond—brings dynamic versatility to traditional T-shirts. The shirts are curated to form a narrative about various socially-conscious and lighthearted themes. In 2021, McCall released his debut artists' book titled, REWIND: MEMORIES ON REPEAT, commissioned and published by SHINE Portrait Studio@ Express Newark, Rutgers University-Newark. The book honors the legacy of ten of McCall's deceased friends through collages composed of archival photos and images from his button artwork. The collages capture the late 1970s to the mid-1980s, from Philadelphia to New York, during the LGBTQ+ rights movement, the height of disco music and the AIDS crisis. In 2024, McCall debuted his first-ever retrospective and exhibition catalog titled, Beau McCall: Buttons On! at Fuller Craft Museum. The exhibition is currently on a nationwide tour.Through his work, McCall remains committed to channeling and contributing to the universal cultural legacy one button at a time.Visit Beau's Website:  BeauMcCall.ComFollow Beau on Instagram: @Beau_McCallFor more on Beau's exhibit "Buttons On!" Ted is joined by prolific music writer and co-host of The Record Player podcast, Jeff Giles (Popdose, Ultimate Classic Rock, Diffuser FM, Jefitoblog, and Harmonic.fm). The discussion centers on highly-regarded albums that, despite their critical acclaim or widespread popularity, have somehow been overlooked by these experienced listeners. Prepare for candid revelations as Ted and Jeff explore records that often elicit the incredulous response: "Wait, you've NEVER listened to that?!" The episode features a diverse selection of genres and eras. It begins with Gang of Four's Entertainment! (1979), examining its groundbreaking sound and lasting influence on popular music. Next, the focus shifts to Jefferson Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow (1967). While acknowledging its iconic status and memorable tracks, the host shares a surprisingly critical perspective on this San Francisco classic. Finally, the conversation turns to Donna Summer's Bad Girls (1979). The episode explores its commercial success, Grammy recognition, and even an unexpected link to New Order, while posing the question of how such a significant album could have been a "miss" for a dedicated music aficionado. Tune in for an engaging and often surprising exploration of influential albums that, for some, remained undiscovered territory.
