A collaborative study in the La Sal and San Juan mountains has found signs that Chronic Wasting Disease may be affecting deer much earlier in life than previously thought, possibly even before birth. As infection rates climb in the Moab area, scientists say the disease could be playing a growing role in the region's struggling deer populations.

Norberto Padilla, misionero claretiano.Martes 17/mar/2026, Al momento aquel hombre quedó sano.Canción: Sáname (2014), de Yuli y Josh----------Lectura del santo evangelio según san Juan 5, 1-3.5-16En aquel tiempo, se celebraba una fiesta de los judíos, y Jesús subió a Jerusalén. Hay en Jerusalén, junto a la puerta de las ovejas, una piscina que llaman en hebreo Betesda. Ésta tiene cinco portales, y allí estaban echados muchos enfermos, ciegos, cojos, paralíticos. Estaba también allí un hombre que llevaba treinta y ocho años enfermo. Jesús, al verlo echado, y sabiendo que ya llevaba mucho tiempo, le dice: «¿Quieres quedar sano?». El enfermo le contestó: «Señor, no tengo a nadie que me meta en la piscina cuando se remueve el agua; para cuando llego yo, otro se me ha adelantado.». Jesús le dice: «Levántate, toma tu camilla y echa a andar.». Y al momento el hombre quedó sano, tomó su camilla y echó a andar. Aquel día era sábado, y los judíos dijeron al hombre que había quedado sano: «Hoy es sábado, y no se puede llevar la camilla.» Él les contestó: «El que me ha curado es quien me ha dicho: Toma tu camilla y echa a andar.» Ellos le preguntaron: «¿Quién es el que te ha dicho que tomes la camilla y eches a andar?» Pero el que había quedado sano no sabía quién era, porque Jesús, aprovechando el barullo de aquel sitio, se había alejado. Norberto Padilla, misionero claretiano.Lunes 16/mar/2026, Anda, tu hijo vive.Canción: Aumenta mi fe (2016), de Athenas----------Lectura del santo evangelio según san Juan 4, 43-54En aquel tiempo, salió Jesús de Samaria para Galilea. Jesús mismo había hecho esta afirmación: «Un profeta no es estimado en su propia patria». Cuando llegó a Galilea, los galileos lo recibieron bien, porque habían visto todo lo que había hecho en Jerusalén durante la fiesta, pues también ellos habían ido a la fiesta. Fue Jesús otra vez a Caná de Galilea, donde había convertido el agua en vino. Había un funcionario real que tenía un hijo enfermo en Cafarnaún. Oyendo que Jesús estaba llegando de Judea a Galilea, fue a verle, y le pedía que bajase a curar a su hijo que estaba muriéndose. Jesús le dijo: «Como no vean signos y prodigios, no creen». El funcionario insiste: «Señor, baja antes de que se muera mi niño». Jesús le contesta: «Anda, tu hijo está curado». El hombre creyó en la palabra de Jesús y se puso en camino. Iba ya bajando, cuando sus criados vinieron a su encuentro diciéndole que su hijo estaba curado. Él les preguntó a qué hora había empezado la mejoría. Y le contestaron: «Hoy a la una lo dejó la fiebre». El padre cayó en la cuenta de que esa era la hora cuando Jesús le había dicho: «Tu hijo está curado». Y creyó él con toda su familia. Welcome to Episode 147 of Tablesetters, where we cover everything happening across the world of baseball. Tonight's WBC special continues our coverage of the 2026 World Baseball Classic as the pool stage moves into its decisive stretch and the knockout picture begins to take shape. We're recording after Team USA's 5–3 victory over Mexico in Houston, a win that pushed the Americans to 3–0 in Pool B and firmly into control of the group. The tone of the game was set by Paul Skenes, who delivered one of the most dominant outings of the tournament so far. In his WBC debut, Skenes threw 4.0 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out seven to keep Mexico's powerful lineup completely off balance. The decisive moment came in the third inning. Aaron Judge launched a two-run home run to open the scoring, and Roman Anthony followed with a towering three-run shot that extended the lead to 5–0 and ultimately decided the game. Mexico attempted a late comeback behind Jarren Duran, who finished 3-for-4 with two home runs, but the United States defense shut the door after a key double play started by Bobby Witt Jr. in the eighth inning. The win leaves Team USA in position to win Pool B outright if they defeat Italy in their final pool game. Elsewhere in the tournament, Puerto Rico has already clinched its quarterfinal berth after defeating Cuba 4–1 in San Juan and improving to 3–0 in Pool A. Cuba and Canada remain locked in a battle for the second spot. In Tokyo, defending champion Japan finished 3–0 in Pool C and continues to look like the tournament standard, while South Korea advanced as the pool runner-up through the tournament's tiebreaker system. In Miami, both Venezuela and the Dominican Republic remain undefeated at 3–0 and have already secured places in the knockout stage, with the Dominican lineup exploding offensively behind Fernando Tatis Jr. With the pool stage nearing its conclusion, the knockout bracket is beginning to form. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the quarterfinals in Houston and Miami before the tournament moves entirely to Miami for the semifinals and championship game. The tournament format also includes relegation. Each pool contains five teams, and the nation that finishes last must return to the qualifying tournaments to reach the next World Baseball Classic. Meanwhile, the top four teams in each pool automatically qualify for the 2029 event. At this stage, Brazil, Czechia, and Nicaragua are among the teams confirmed to be relegated after finishing at the bottom of their groups. With the knockout stage approaching, the remaining games will determine the final quarterfinal matchups and could set up major clashes between teams like Team USA, Puerto Rico, Japan, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela as the tournament moves toward Miami.

(Natalicio de Francisco del Rosario Sánchez) Francisco del Rosario Sánchez nació en Santo Domingo el 9 de marzo de 1817, durante los últimos años del período colonial conocido como la «España Boba». No se sabe cuándo comenzó su relación con Juan Pablo Duarte, pero se cree que fue después de 1838 debido a que Sánchez no figuró entre los fundadores de la sociedad secreta «La Trinitaria». A mediados de 1843, perseguido por el General Charles Hérard, Sánchez se dirigió de Los Llanos a Santo Domingo, cruzó a nado el río Ozama para avisar a Duarte, y logró evadir la persecución haciendo correr el rumor de que había muerto a causa de una enfermedad repentina. Desde su escondite, donde asumió la dirección del movimiento independentista como resultado del exilio de Duarte, Sánchez, con la colaboración de Matías Ramón Mella y Tomás de Bobadilla, redactó el Manifiesto de Independencia, que se publicó el 16 de enero de 1844. De ahí que la noche del 24 de febrero los conspiradores lo eligieran Comandante de Armas con el rango de coronel, reconociendo así su jefatura política y militar, y acordaran que Sánchez presidiera la Junta de Gobierno que había de dirigir los destinos de la república naciente. A las once de la noche del 27 de febrero, los revolucionarios se reunieron en la Puerta de la Misericordia, y desde allí se lanzaron a ocupar el baluarte de El Conde. Fue así como en la madrugada del 28, Sánchez, de apenas veintisiete años de edad, izó la bandera nacional al amparo del lema «¡Dios, Patria y Libertad!» El golpe se consumó rápida y pacíficamente, pero una vez que se proclamó la independencia, se organizó la Junta Central Gubernativa en lugar del Comité Insurreccional, se impusieron en la nueva Junta los representantes del sector social más influyente, y resultó electo presidente Tomás de Bobadilla en lugar de Francisco del Rosario Sánchez. En junio de 1861, habiendo proclamado unilateralmente el entonces presidente Pedro Santana la reincorporación de la República Dominicana a España con la que los dominicanos renunciaban a su soberanía nacional, Sánchez, a pesar de encontrarse gravemente enfermo, organizó una invasión por el territorio haitiano, pero finalmente cayó en una emboscada de las fuerzas del gobierno, fue herido, tomado prisionero y condenado a muerte. Consagrado por la historia como fundador y prócer de la República dos veces, murió fusilado el 4 de julio en el cementerio de San Juan de la Maguana.1 Gracias a Dios, cuya preeminencia Sánchez y sus compañeros trinitarios reconocieron en el lema nacional, todos podemos disfrutar de la libertad por la que dio su vida aquel prócer dominicano. We begin with the return of the World Baseball Classic, which arrives just as MLB spring training reaches its most competitive stretch. The tournament brings together 20 national teams competing across Tokyo, San Juan, Houston, and Miami, running through March 17. Japan enters as the defending champion after defeating Team USA in the 2023 final, while the United States returns with a roster built to pursue redemption. The Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico also enter the tournament with lineups capable of making deep runs. Exhibition games leading into the tournament have already produced early signals. Team USA delivered one of the loudest statements, routing the San Francisco Giants 15–1. Paul Skenes dominated in his outing, striking out four hitters across three innings without issuing a walk, immediately reminding everyone why he has quickly become one of the most overpowering pitchers in the sport. Team USA opens its tournament Friday against Brazil before quickly facing Great Britain, Mexico, and Italy as Pool B begins to take shape. From international baseball we move to a structural shift arriving in Major League Baseball this season: the Automated Ball-Strike challenge system. Rather than replacing home plate umpires entirely, the league is introducing a hybrid model. Each team begins a game with two challenges, and only the pitcher, catcher, or hitter can initiate a challenge immediately after a call. If the challenge is successful, the team keeps it. Spring training has quickly become the testing ground for how teams will actually use the system. The Minnesota Twins have been among the most aggressive teams in challenging calls, leading the league in overturned decisions early in camp as they experiment with the margins of the strike zone. Meanwhile, the Athletics have stood out for efficiency, posting the highest challenge success rate in baseball so far by winning roughly seventy percent of their appeals. Leaguewide data suggests about half of all challenges are overturned, reinforcing the idea that the biggest edge may belong to players with elite strike-zone awareness rather than teams that simply challenge the most. Spring training has also produced several intriguing individual and organizational storylines. In Detroit's system, Kevin McGonigle is beginning to look like one of the most advanced young hitters in professional baseball. The 21-year-old shortstop recently opened an exhibition game by launching the first pitch he saw from former All-Star Luis Severino for a home run. McGonigle's combination of strike-zone discipline, elite contact ability, and emerging power recently earned him an 80-grade hit tool evaluation, the highest grade scouts can assign to a hitter. In limited spring action he has posted a .400/.471/.667 line, further reinforcing the belief that he could eventually become one of the defining hitters of the Tigers' next competitive window. In Colorado, the organization's long search for stability at first base continues more than a decade after Todd Helton's retirement. This spring that conversation centers around Charlie Condon and TJ Rumfield. Condon, the third overall pick in the 2024 draft out of Georgia, arrived in professional baseball with one of the most dominant offensive seasons in recent NCAA history, hitting 37 home runs while batting .433. His raw power could eventually play extremely well at Coors Field. Rumfield represents a different profile — a more experienced hitter who spent all of last season in Triple-A hitting .285 with an .825 OPS. Colorado now faces a familiar decision between accelerating a high-upside prospect or relying on the steadier upper-minors bat. Atlanta is dealing with a far more complicated roster situation. Jurickson Profar is facing a potential 162-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug for the second time within the past year. Under MLB's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, a second violation results in a full-season suspension and forfeiture of salary. Profar is expected to appeal the decision through the MLB Players Association, which leaves the Braves in a difficult holding pattern as they attempt to plan their Opening Day roster. If the suspension stands, Atlanta will suddenly need to replace a projected middle-of-the-lineup bat. Finally, one of the most closely watched prospects in baseball continues to generate attention in Pittsburgh. Konnor Griffin, the 19-year-old shortstop and the No. 1 prospect in the sport, has already launched three home runs in limited Grapefruit League action. Griffin's power-speed combination has drawn comparisons to some of the most dynamic young players in the game. Last season he hit .333 with 21 home runs and 65 stolen bases across three minor league levels, eventually finishing the year at Double-A. The bigger question now is timing. If Griffin were to make the Opening Day roster, he would become the first teenage hitter to debut in the majors since Ken Griffey Jr. in 1989. The Pirates may still choose to delay that debut for development or service-time reasons, but early spring performances are beginning to make that decision far more complicated. Spring training often produces noise, but the themes beginning to emerge this year feel more substantial: the return of baseball's biggest international tournament, a technological change that could reshape the strike zone conversation, and a wave of young talent preparing to define the next era of the sport. The season is approaching quickly. And the real signals are starting to appear.

Ali dictated the pace from the opening bell, snapping jabs and sharp combinations while keeping the overmatched challenger at bay until the referee stepped in. The performance earned Ali the cover of the March 1, 1976 issue of Sports Illustrated, a reminder that even a routine title defense still revolved around “The Greatest.” Moments like that take on more meaning when viewed through the lens of Professor Gerald Early, one of the leading scholars on Ali's life and legacy. As editor of The Muhammad Ali Reader, Early explores Ali as more than just a boxer — he examines him as a cultural force who reshaped conversations about race, politics, and celebrity. CONFLICT REMAINS INTENSE IN MEXICO.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE----- -International Events-Mexico: Following yesterday's intense fighting in Jalisco, most airlines have canceled flights out of Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. The main hospital in Guadalajara was evacuated for a few hours, after CJNG forces threatened to attack the facility due to rumors that wounded Federal forces were being treated there. The National Guard base in San Juan de Los Lagos was attacked with explosives (possibly RPGs), which resulted in several casualties.Far to the north, schools throughout Baja and Tijuana have been cancelled for all levels of education until further notice, and various Cartel-affiliated social media pages have declared a 10:00pm curfew for civilians, announcing that anyone caught outside after this hour will be shot.Concerning casualties sustained so far, Government forces report a total of 25x KIA as of this morning, most of which occurred as a result of the attack on the National Guard base. For CJNG, casualties are not known, as they usually withdraw with their wounded/dead without disclosing casualty figures until much later (if at all).Analyst Comment: Officially, the position of the Federal government is that absolutely nothing is happening whatsoever. This morning, President Sheinbaum stated several times that no blockades were in place, no engagements took place at all this morning, and everything is perfectly calm. This is mostly a lie, as multiple arson attacks have been reported this morning, but it's the story that the federales are sticking to. It is true that the knee-jerk response yesterday was an intense flash-in-the-pan, however much more substantial resources are staging throughout the nation, as many different cartels get ready for a protracted fight, if that is the chosen course of action.At lower levels of government, officials are not taking any chances. Authorities being concerned enough to cancel classes and close businesses in Baja is interesting as most people thought that this state was entirely controlled by the Sinaloa Cartel...not CJNG. This also means that conflict is likely to spread throughout the country, not just Jalisco where the violence first began. Cross border-conflict has not yet been observed in American border towns just yet, however with the speed at which hostilities have developed, a hot, shooting war can break out in any location at any time.-HomeFront-Florida: Over the weekend, a suspected assassination attempt was reported at Mar-a-Lago, after an assailant armed with a shotgun and incendiary materials breached the inner perimeter of the compound. Sunday morning, the US Secret Service posted a press statement confirming that one suspect had been killed at Mar-a-Lago after breaching a perimeter fence.Analyst Comment: Due to the sensitivity of the site, zero details have been provided on where the suspect breached the fence, or where the individual was engaged within the compound. No information has been posted regarding the shooter's identity or motive for the attack.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: In the Middle East, wartime preparations continue as before. Meanwhile on the diplomatic front, negotiations between the United States and Iran are scheduled to resume in Geneva on Thursday.
