2B Bolder Podcast : Career Insights for the Next Generation of Women in Business & Tech
Meet Gisele Marcus, a leadership dynamo whose remarkable journey from Harlem to Harvard Business School epitomizes what it means to be bold in pursuing excellence. Growing up in what she affectionately calls "old Harlem," Giselle was raised in a household where excellence wasn't just encouraged—it was required. This foundation propelled her through Syracuse University, into a Harvard MBA program, and ultimately to becoming a TEDx speaker and respected operations executive. What makes Giselle's story particularly powerful is her candid admission about learning the true value of networking at age 39. "I wish someone would have told me earlier that excellence alone doesn't guarantee career advancement," she reflects. After following a sponsor's networking advice during an international assignment, Giselle returned to find not just one job opportunity awaiting her, but eleven. This revelation transformed her understanding of career development and now forms the cornerstone of her guidance to other women.Throughout our conversation, Giselle shares game-changing insights about political astuteness in the workplace, creating a compelling personal brand (hers: "I make organizations hum"), building a career portfolio that showcases your full range of talents, and embracing AI while developing the emotional intelligence that technology can't replicate. For women facing career pivots—whether by choice or circumstance—she offers practical strategies for identifying transferable skills and enlisting friends or coaches to help you see strengths you might miss in yourself.Perhaps most inspiringly, Giselle defines boldness as "taking that extra step when you're questioning yourself," reminding us that for women, there's no such thing as being "too bold." Whether you're just starting your career journey or looking to make your next strategic move, this episode offers both the practical tools and the mindset shifts needed to truly show up and be bolder in all aspects of your professional life.Resources: www.giselemarcus.comLearn more about AnitaB.org Support the showWhen you subscribe to the podcast, you are supporting our work's mission, allowing us to continue highlighting successful women in a variety of careers to inspire others helping pay our wonderful editor, Chris, and helping me in paying our hosting expenses.

This week we dig into life's big questions: how to love, laugh & financially flourish in a world that seems to be doing its best to keep us off balance On my show this week I have a medley of minds and hearts to tackle life's most elusive pursuits: purpose, prosperity and punchlines. From the philosophy of love to economic psychology, and a sprinkle of comedy to bind it all together, the episode was a bouquet of unexpected wisdom. First up, Rick Serrano, philosopher, engineer, and Harvard MBA, returned with his relationship roadmap now available in book form: “All You Need is 10 Cherries.” This method to finding one's perfect life partner offers a structured framework to navigate your options —five cherries for self-awareness and five for action. From recognising doubts and defining values to the financial equivalent of the ‘Sunk Love Fallacy.' Rick urges us to approach relationships with the same discipline we apply to business. One of his main principles can be summarised here: “If you were not in this relationship today, would you enter it? If the answer is no, you already know what to do.” Rick's philosophy stretches beyond romance. His new workshop “The Quest for Meaning – Unveiling Your Life's Purpose” invites participants to envision their lives in 2040, both with current constraints and without. He combines forward vision with retrospective reflection, helping people identify patterns, possibilities, and pathways to an extraordinary life because he believes we owe ourselves nothing less. The theme of self-reclamation was echoed by comedians Jess Bauldry and Marta Correia, co-founders of Frilly Curtains Comedy Club and Festrogen Festival. They spoke of comedy as a healing force, particularly for women reclaiming their identity after traumatic life events such as divorce. Marta shared a poignant story of reading her “letter to the universe” onstage from which an audience member came up to her afterwards and told her that was how she found her own husband! Sophie Jablonski and Minna Schmidt of Flourish Financially joined once more to bring a fresh, empathetic take on economic empowerment with the “Four Seasons of Financial Health”. Spring is a time for planting seeds of confidence in a VUCA world (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous). The goal is to cultivate financial resilience, emotional steadiness, and long-term thinking amid global instability. Why is it that many financially savvy women don't invest. Fear, uncertainty and emotional barriers seem to be the recurring reasons. Sophie and Minna work with women to integrate personal development with financial literacy. They believe it's about knowing yourself and acting with intention, especially during turbulent times. So, whether you're rethinking your savings strategy, relationship status, or life purpose, hopefully this episode can serve as a catalyst to seek out your extra-ordinary life with intention. But first, clean your airplane. Attend the upcoming Festrogen Festival in Luxembourg here. A gift to explore your Financial Wellbeing Flourish Financially are happy to offer my listeners access to their exclusive self-assessment tool, the Financial Flourishing Scale. Grounded in research from positive psychology and financial resilience, it helps individuals reflect on their current relationship with money—whether they're thriving, surviving, or languishing. https://bit.ly/flourishing-scale https://www.linkedin.com/in/rick-serrano-luxembourg/ https://festrogenfestival.com/ https://www.instagram.com/comicbyaccident/ https://www.instagram.com/frillycurtainscomedy/ https://drsophiecoaching.com/ https://www.minnaschmidt.com/ https://flourishfinancially.org/

Welcome Margaret Nyamumbo, founder of Kahawa 1893, a Kenyan coffee company, aiming to bring Kenyan coffee to the world in a way that benefits our women farmers. Nyamumbo grew up in Kenya seeing the hard work of coffee farmers, including her family, given very little for their sweat. She tells us 10% or less of coffee profit comes back to the farmers. More disparagingly, women farmers own none of the land and recieve less pay. After traveling to the USA to receive her Harvard MBA, Margaret was called to support her hometown, now understanding the consumer goods market and seeing a shift in specialty coffee. She discusses the rise of conscious consumption and the desire to see equal compensation from farm to cup. She appeared on Shark Tank in 2024 to secure $350,000 in investment with guest shark Emma Grede offering the deal for 8% equity. The QR code on the back of each bag allows consumers to directly tip the farmer making international exchange feeless and seamless. Tune in for a compelling discussion on coffee, business, attracting investors, entering a competitive market, and the influence Kahawa 1893 is making in Kenya! Order your favorite roast here today! Part Two of a 3-part series on Josh Drean. Josh has worn many hats—Harvard MBA, psychology grad, co-founder of Work3 Institute and now, co-author of Employment is Dead (Harvard Business Review Press). In the Part 1 of a three-part series with Josh, we dug into why the corporate world's obsession with employee engagement surveys is as effective as asking your toaster for career advice. Spoiler alert: Most companies don't actually want honest feedback from employees. Here in Part 2, where look deep into the book's journey: how did this provocative and ambitious book come about in the very first place?Key Highlights of Our Interview:A Book Born from a Cold Call“I know this sounds completely random, but do you want to write a book together?” That's how co-author Deborah Perry Piscione kickstarted Employment is Dead. One unexpected call, a bold idea, and a title sticky enough to catch Harvard Business Review's attention. The Slow Reality of Publishing in a Fast-Changing World“Can you imagine writing a chapter about a year ago and then having it publish a year later? It's outdated week to week almost.” While AI and Web3 reshape the workforce at lightning speed, traditional publishing still takes years. To bridge the gap, Josh turned to TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube—engaging with audiences in real-time while waiting for the book's release.A 120-Page Proposal and a Bidding War“Before we knew it, we had 120 pages of this proposal, which was much too long.” What started as an overstuffed pitch ended in a bidding war among publishers. The reason? Josh and Deborah weren't just talking about changing work culture—they were exposing how outdated employment structures hold workers back._________________________Connect with us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Josh Drean_________________________--Chief Change Officer--Change Ambitiously. The intersection of purpose and profit is redefining modern careers, and our latest episode of On the Brink with Andi Simon explores this compelling shift with guest Georgii Enthoven. A Harvard MBA and global business leader, Georgi shares her fascinating career journey, insights from her upcoming book Work That's Worth It (launching April 8), and the importance of intentional careers that merge contribution with compensation. The Future of Work: Purpose and Profit Go Hand-in-Hand As capitalism reaches a tipping point, thought leaders worldwide, are exploring how businesses and careers must evolve. A growing number of professionals are no longer satisfied with choosing between financial success and meaningful work. Instead, they are finding ways to achieve both. Georgina, who once struggled to balance her personal drive for impact with a high-earning corporate career, realized that the key isn't an "either-or" approach—it's "and." Purpose and profit can and should coexist. This realization led to her book, which offers guidance on building careers that sustain both personal well-being and global impact. How to Build a Career That Matters During the podcast, Georgi outlined a framework to help professionals align their work with their values: Identify a Problem Worth Solving: Careers should be built around real-world challenges that inspire action. Whether it's sustainability, social justice, or healthcare innovation, finding a mission-driven focus is key. Merge Ambition with Impact: Many professionals, like Georgina, initially succeed in high-paying jobs but feel unfulfilled. Shifting toward work that aligns with personal values doesn't mean giving up success—it means redefining it. Intentionality is Essential: The modern workforce spends approximately 90,000 hours on their careers. Georgina emphasizes that these hours should be spent wisely, creating lasting contributions while ensuring financial stability. Learn from Trailblazers: The book Work That's Worth It features inspiring companies like Client Earth (holding governments accountable for environmental policies). The stories provide a roadmap for anyone seeking to build a business or career with impact. If you prefer to watch the video, click here: Why This Matters More Than Ever The demand for purpose-driven businesses is growing rapidly. Companies that align with ethical and social goals are attracting top talent, loyal customers, and long-term success. Part One of a 3-part series on Josh Drean. Josh has worn many hats—Harvard MBA, psychology grad, co-founder of Work3 Institute and now, co-author of Employment is Dead (Harvard Business Review Press). We're kicking off 2025 with a bang—by declaring employment dead. Yes, you read that right. Josh Drean is here to dismantle the traditional job market, toss outdated HR policies into the digital abyss, and redefine what it means to work in the modern world. This is Part 1 of a three-part series with Josh, where we dig into why the corporate world's obsession with employee engagement surveys is as effective as asking your toaster for career advice. Spoiler alert: Most companies don't actually want honest feedback from employees. Stay tuned for Part 2, where we take the conversation even deeper into the new rules of work. Key Highlights of Our Interview: Why “people are our greatest asset” is corporate gaslighting – If people were really assets, why are they still an expense on the balance sheet? The future is flexible, but companies are stuck in the past – Why forcing employees back to the office is like making them commute to a typewriter factory. _________________________ Connect with us: Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Josh Drean Chief Change Officer: Make Change Ambitiously. Here in Part 2, where look deep into the book's journey: how did this provocative and ambitious book come about in the very first place? Key Highlights of Our Interview: A Book Born from a Cold Call “I know this sounds completely random, but do you want to write a book together?” That's how co-author Deborah Perry Piscione kickstarted Employment is Dead. One unexpected call, a bold idea, and a title sticky enough to catch Harvard Business Review's attention. The Slow Reality of Publishing in a Fast-Changing World “Can you imagine writing a chapter about a year ago and then having it publish a year later? It's outdated week to week almost.” While AI and Web3 reshape the workforce at lightning speed, traditional publishing still takes years. To bridge the gap, Josh turned to TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube—engaging with audiences in real-time while waiting for the book's release. A 120-Page Proposal and a Bidding War “Before we knew it, we had 120 pages of this proposal, which was much too long.” What started as an overstuffed pitch ended in a bidding war among publishers. The reason? Josh and Deborah weren't just talking about changing work culture—they were exposing how outdated employment structures hold workers back. _________________________ Connect with us: Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Josh Drean Chief Change Officer: Make Change Ambitiously. Jeremy Au referenced Asia Partners' report predicting a surge in Southeast Asian unicorns based on macroeconomic fundamentals, and discussed the GDP per capita “time machine” phenomenon where Chinese and American founders enter Southeast Asia to replicate proven business models in frontier markets. He also shared an LP's perspective on Southeast Asia's underperforming VC funds, questioning whether it was due to fund selection or broader market dynamics, e.g. Vietnam's struggle to produce a successful tech IPO and high U.S. interest rates that have constrained regional Series B/C capital. He compared VCs to Olympic coaches, explaining that top investors prioritize 10x teams, product, and defensible economics—but competition is fierce for the best startup teams, e.g. Rewind AI receiving 170 term sheets via a Google form auction as an extreme case of a bidding war where VCs fight to get into the round. === Jeremy Au (区汉辉) hosts BRAVE Southeast Asia Tech, the region's #1 tech podcast and global top 10% podcast with 50,000+ monthly listeners. In the latest episode of The Chad & Cheese Podcast, J.T. O'Donnell crashes the party, diving headfirst into the chaotic whirlpool that is today's job market and recruitment tech. They start by roasting the good ol' resume, with J.T. proclaiming it's about as useful as a screen door on a submarine in this AI-driven world. Next up, they tackle the plight of Harvard MBA grads, who apparently can't even buy a job in this economy. One in four of these overachievers are sitting at home, probably wondering if their fancy degrees are just expensive wall decor. The show then takes a detour into corporate shenanigans, spotlighting DHI Group's Dice and ClearanceJobs, which are cutting costs like they're prepping for a zombie apocalypse. Layoffs? More like "strategic headcount adjustments," am I right? On the acquisition front, Shaker Recruitment Marketing gobbled up JobAdX, which might make Appcast lose sleep, assuming JobAdX goes on the offensive ... unlike Joe Shaker's beloved Chicago Bears this season. The tech talk doesn't stop there; LinkedIn's new AI tools are supposedly going to make job hunting as easy as swiping right on Tinder, plus help small to medium-sized businesses use LinkedIn for hiring where they looked to ZipRecruiter or Indeed previously. And then there's TikTok, teetering on the edge of oblivion, potentially turning all those TikTok millionaires back into regular folks with regular jobs. Lastly, they zero in on Mark Zuckerberg for some Big Meta Energy, whose recent decisions at Meta scream either "mid-life crisis" or "I've lost the plot" ... take your pick. They speculate on AI's future, with middle managers on high alert, fearing their cushy jobs might soon be as relevant as a fax machine. So, grab your popcorn (or your resume, for nostalgia), and tune in for a snarky, humorous breakdown of the job market's latest and greatest.

In this episode of The Lindsey Anderson Show, I'm joined by Glenn Gow, an accomplished CEO success coach and AI expert with over 25 years of experience. Glenn shares his valuable insights on how CEOs can leverage AI to boost productivity and enhance business operations. He also delves into the future of business coaching, and the CEO mindset that leaders must embrace to overcome new business challenges. This conversation is full of actionable advice for scaling your business and embracing personal growth as a leader.Guest Introduction:Glenn Gow is a Harvard MBA, CEO success coach, and AI expert with 25 years of experience as a CEO. He has spent five years as a venture capitalist and has advised major tech companies like Apple, Google, and Microsoft. Glenn is also a columnist for Forbes and has spoken at significant events, such as the Wall Street Journal AI Conference and Harvard Business School. He's passionate about helping CEOs grow, evolve, and overcome challenges in today's business world. The Future of Business Coaching - Key Takeaways:AI as a Tool for CEOs: Glenn describes AI as an intern—smart but imperfect. While AI can greatly enhance productivity, CEOs must remain mindful of its limitations and always check its work. The CEO Mindset: CEOs need to evolve from being experts in one area (like engineering) to managing multiple aspects of the business, including marketing, sales, HR, and finance. It's all about personal growth to handle these new responsibilities.Delegation is Key: CEOs must master the art of delegation to avoid burnout. Shifting from micromanaging to empowering their teams allows CEOs to focus on higher-level decisions and scale their business more effectively.AI in CEO Coaching: Although AI tools can offer useful insights, the future of CEO coaching lies in building deep, personal relationships. These connections are what drive real, meaningful change in leadership and business transformation.Coaching Insights:Mindset Shift for CEOs: Glenn emphasizes that CEOs, like athletes, need coaches to continue improving even when they're already at the top of their game. A transformational coach helps you reach even higher levels of performance.Breaking Patterns for Growth: CEOs often fall into patterns of success that no longer serve them. A coach helps them identify and break those patterns to continue moving forward with new strategies for business scaling.Developing Leadership Teams: Glenn stresses that one of a CEO's primary roles is to hire and nurture a leadership team that is stronger than themselves in specific areas of the business. This is essential to scaling the business and driving long-term success.Key Stories:A CEO's Breakthrough Moment: Glenn shares a powerful story of a CEO who raised $150M instead of $50M by shifting his mindset and approach with the board. This CEO moved from asking for permission to confidently declaring his plan, which earned the board's trust and led to massive success. A great example of how coaching and a mindset shift lead to transformational growth. The Bark vs. Forest Analogy: Glenn uses this analogy to explain how CEOs often get stuck in the details (the bark) and miss the bigger picture (the forest). A coach's external perspective helps CEOs refocus and solve the right problems, enabling them to scale their business successfully.Overcoming Common CEO Obstacles:Overwhelm: Many CEOs feel responsible for everything, which leads to overwhelm and burnout. Glenn recommends using the Objectives and Key Results (OKR) framework to help CEOs prioritize their goals and reduce stress.

What if I told you that the key to a successful marketing strategy might lie in something as simple, yet profound, as sticking to your values? On this episode we explore the revolutionary potential of ethical marketing with Cat Valverde, a marketing professional who turned a burnout moment into a powerful business driven by ethics, integrity, and authenticity. These days marketing is often treated with skepticism, so Cat's approach is a breath of fresh air. Her story is deeply personal and rooted in a quest for authenticity. Cat believes that intertwining personal values with business practices is not only possible but essential for long-term success. This is a topic worth considering, especially if you are tired of the cutthroat, often unscrupulous tactics that have come to define much of the marketing landscape. With joy in her heart, a Harvard MBA in progress and over $5 million in direct revenue created for clients to date; Cat Valverde is excited to laugh, take a deep breath and crack open the spreadsheets with us. Her focus is digital revenue strategy in the post-ads economy. She's most curious about the part we tend to talk about least in the digital business space: How's it (really) going financially? Founder of Profeshh and a digital marketing expert, Cat is on a mission to bring transparency and fairness into the marketing world. Growing up knowing that her father pioneered the unsavory telemarketing scams of the '80s and '90s—schemes that preyed on the elderly and vulnerable—Cat developed a deep-seated commitment to ethical and equitable business practices. This background fuels Cat's passion for creating marketing programs built on transparency, trust, and authenticity. With her latest program, she helps small businesses reengage and reactivate their email lists, bringing tailored, data-driven strategies to help them thrive. She's most excited to connect with SaaS, course creation, agency and eCommerce teams. Cat believes that there's enough sunshine for everyone. No matter what the economy looks like. When you're dedicated to ethical marketing, equanimity and bring a unique impact to the marketplace, you win. She and her team at Profeshh are here today with real cashflow solutions that you can implement right now, at no cost. Links Mentioned: https://emailrevamp.com

How do you conquer feelings of self-doubt? For this Women of Color Rise Podcast, I talk with Zee Clarke, a breathwork and resilience expert and the author of Black People Breathe. Trained in India, she is a Harvard MBA that went from leading teams at Fortune 500 companies to teaching powerful tools to improve our mental health and well-being in the workplace. Zee shares a practical exercise called WEBAV to boost your confidence and conquer imposter syndrome when you experience self-doubt. W = Welcome. The first step is to pause and welcome the voice of self-doubt. Rather than squash it, allow the voice to be there and listen to what the voice is saying. E = Evidence gathering. Make a list that supports what your voice is saying, and make a list of evidence that disproves it. For Zee, she once had a job where each morning, she worried that she would get fired. She then made a list of evidence that supported this thought and another list that disproved it. Most of the time, the list that disproves it will be much longer because it's all in our head. B = Breathwork. When we are in our heads, we tend to go into fight or flight mode. Breathing can calm your anxiety and also boost your confidence and help you use your voice. A = Affirmations. Affirmations are most effective when you use your name and say it in the present tense. So instead of, ‘I will be amazing,” I should say, “Analiza is amazing.” The more frequently we practice affirmations, the more we can rewire our neural pathways. V = Visualization. Olympic athletes practice visualization because research shows that visualization and actually doing the action stimulates the same regions in the brain. This is true whether it's work or outside of work. When we visualize, then that action becomes real for us in our subconscious, which then becomes real in our conscious mind when we actually do the thing.
