Ever feel like everything is spiraling out of control? Maybe you're running late, snapping at others, or watching a small setback feel like a catastrophe. These intense moments don't just come from what's happening on the surface; they're amplified by short-term stress that hijacks your perspective and makes you lose sight of what actually matters. In this episode, I share a simple technique built around the phrase "at the end of the day" to help you pause and recalibrate when life feels overwhelming. You'll learn how to interrupt the stress spiral, notice when you're caught up in tension, and ask targeted questions that allow you to make decisions from a place of clarity rather than crisis. Our guiding affirmation for today's episode is this:“I carry the truth within me, and it sets me free.”You are not here to live by someone else's script. Your truth may not make sense to others, and that's okay. It's yours. Let's get honest for a moment. How often do you second-guess your decisions? How often do you ask someone else for advice when, deep down, you already know what you need?
What if I told you that your self-doubt is the silent killer of your dreams? After achieving everything I thought I wanted—the accolades, the recognition, the external markers of success—I still felt angry, frustrated, and empty inside because I wasn't getting the feeling of happiness or validation I truly craved. In this solo episode, I'm sharing the three frameworks that completely destroyed my fear of rejection and helped me stop living for other people's approval. Are your habits shaping the life you truly want, or are they running the show? Habits influence how you think, feel, and show up every single day. The way you respond to challenges, interact with others, and navigate your own mind is all shaped by the patterns you repeat, often without even realizing it. In this episode, I explore why habits are so vitally important and why, if you want to live intentionally, you must be deliberate with your habits. Think about your life 10 years from now. Will you be living with the same habits you have today, or with habits that serve you, support your goals, and leave you feeling like you're in the driver's seat? You'll learn how to start cultivating habits you love, how to unravel patterns that no longer serve you, and why the choices you make right now can dramatically shape the next decade of your life. It tells us we're not doing enough, we're not good enough, or we're not parenting the right way. That voice, often called the inner critic, is oh so relentless. Even casual external criticism, easily fuels this voice that lives in our heads 24/7.

In the world of writing, the path to becoming a published author is often shrouded in mystery. For many, it's a journey filled with rejection, self-doubt, and the tireless pursuit of a story. But what happens when that journey not only leads to publication, but to a place on the prestigious Sunday Times Bestseller list? This is the story of B.P. Walter, a master of psychological thrillers and horror. In a fascinating interview on The Writing Community Chat Show podcast, Walter shares his insights on crafting compelling fiction, the power of persistence, and how a surprising change of plans turned his dream into a full-time career. The Turning Point: When a Pandemic Helped Launch a Bestseller. One of the most compelling parts of the interview is the behind-the-scenes look at how Walter's third book, The Dinner Guest, became a game-changer. Despite having two previous novels published, it was this book that captured the attention of readers and the industry. He reveals a stroke of good timing: the book was released in April 2021, just as UK retail shops were reopening after lockdown. People poured into bookshops, and The Dinner Guest was ready and waiting to be discovered. This momentum, combined with an "incredible promotion," propelled the book to number one on the Times chart, changing his life and allowing him to commit to writing full-time.Demystifying the Writing Process. For aspiring authors, B.P. Walter offers invaluable, practical advice. He candidly discusses how his writing process has evolved over 10 books. Initially, he didn't focus on word count, but a tight deadline forced him to adopt a more disciplined approach. Now, he aims for 3,000 words a day when actively drafting a manuscript.Perhaps his most surprising tip came from the Faber Academy, where he learned the power of planning. He now meticulously plans his novels chapter by chapter with a short summary for each, a method he now considers essential. Walter believes that knowing where the story is going allows for a more structured and efficient creative flow.Crafting Fear: Tips for Thriller, Horror & Gothic WritersB.P. Walter is a true genre-jumper, and he shared his best advice for writers tackling psychological thrillers, horror, and Gothic fiction.* For Horror: He suggests writers consider what genuinely scares them personally. While not every detail has to be autobiographical, drawing on personal fears can help conjure a more authentic sense of dread for the reader.* For Psychological Thrillers: Walter emphasizes the importance of rhythm. He advises writers to pay close attention to the pacing of the plot, ensuring twists and climaxes happen at the right moments to keep readers hooked.* For Gothic Fiction: He describes this genre as being all about atmosphere and feeling. He recommends that aspiring writers read extensively within the genre to understand how to create that unsettling vibe.A New Mystery on the Horizon. In the interview, Walter offers an exciting pitch for his new book, The Winter Visitor. He describes it as his "most Agatha Christie-ish book" yet—a murder mystery set in a Scottish castle during a storm. When a mysterious stranger is found dead with a Christmas ornament in his heart, everyone in the locked-down castle becomes a suspect.Connect with B.P. Walter:* Instagram: @BPWalterAuthor* Twitter: @BarnabyWalter* Buy his books: Available on Amazon, Waterstones, and Audible. This conversation with B.P. Walter is a masterclass for anyone interested in the art of writing and publishing. In this week's episode of the LDS Mission Podcast, Episode 222: Trading Out the Tough Stuff, I'm sharing a concept that has been on my mind as I've worked with missionaries, returned missionaries, and missionary moms. Life on the mission—and after—can feel really tough. Whether it's stress, overwhelm, loneliness, or self-doubt, it's easy for our brains to shut down and say, “this is just too hard.” But what I've learned, and what I want to share with you, is that most of the time we're not escaping the tough stuff—we're simply trading one set of hard emotions for another. In this episode, I'll walk you through how to notice this pattern, how to stop resisting the difficulty, and how to choose which “hard” is worth it. You'll hear real-life examples from missionaries, service missions, jobs, relationships, and even my own family. Together, we'll explore why confidence is less about capability and more about being willing to feel discomfort, and how emotional resilience comes from making peace with the fact that life is always 50/50—half good and half hard. My hope is that Trading Out the Tough Stuff will help you recognize the power you have in deciding where to put your energy. When a problem keeps showing up in your life like an unwelcome visitor, how do you respond? Maybe the same struggles keep resurfacing despite your best efforts—leaving work at the office, carving out time for what matters, or breaking free from patterns that no longer serve you. It can feel like these challenges are unsolvable, draining your energy, and stealing your peace of mind. These problems aren't unsolvable; the challenge is often in how we approach them. We resist looking at what's painful and dismiss our deepest desires as unrealistic or selfish. In this episode, I share two techniques that flip this pattern. You'll learn how to create containers for difficult emotions, honor your desires without getting lost in logistics, and design small, doable experiments that move you forward when you feel stuck. A Candid Conversation About the Dreams We Put on Hold In this role-reversal episode of the Rich Mind Podcast, Greg takes the host's seat and poses a powerful question to Randy: "If you knew you couldn't fail and wouldn't be judged, what's the one thing you would do today?" This thought experiment leads to a candid exploration of Randy's lifelong passion for classic cars and racing. The conversation is a transparent look at how our deepest passions, often formed in childhood, can get buried under the responsibilities and limiting beliefs of adult life. Listeners will learn the importance of identifying their true desires, the power of taking small, tangible steps towards a dream, and why facing the fear of regret is often a more powerful motivator than the fear of failure. Key Takeaways: The question "What would you do if you couldn't fail?" is a powerful tool to bypass your inner critic and identify your true passions. Your childhood dreams and passions often hold the key to what would bring you the most fulfillment in your adult life. You don't have to quit your life to pursue a passion; you can start by "dipping your toe in the water" through local clubs, volunteer opportunities, or conversations. Your existing relationships and network (a friend from a car club, a daughter's boyfriend who races) are often the doorways to your next opportunity. Limiting beliefs, such as "I need to do things on my own" or "My spouse wouldn't enjoy it," can prevent you from taking the first step. Setting an intention is a powerful first step that signals to your mind to start looking for opportunities and connections related to your goal. The fear of regret ("What if I never even try?") can be a more potent fuel for action than the fear of failure. Questions Answered in This Episode: What is the most powerful question to ask yourself to uncover your hidden passions? How do you turn a lifelong passion, like classic cars, into a tangible pursuit? What are the first small steps you can take to explore a new hobby or career path? How can you leverage your existing network to open doors to new opportunities? What common limiting beliefs stop us from pursuing our dreams? Why is it important to ask yourself if you will regret not doing something? How does setting a clear intention help you recognize opportunities you previously missed? How do you balance your personal passions with family responsibilities and commitments? Key People, Concepts, & Terms: People: Randy Wilson, Greg Junge. Why do so many accomplished women still doubt themselves—even after building extraordinary lives and businesses? Kris continues her Self-Trust & Self-Worth mini-series with a powerful exploration of the programming women inherit from generations before us. She invites us to reflect on the systemic, cultural, and ancestral patterns that quietly shape how women value themselves—and why even the most accomplished female founders still lie awake at night second-guessing their own decisions. From hiding success out of guilt to resisting difficult conversations at work, Kris shows how the paradox of female leadership is never about capability—it's about the stories we've absorbed about what women “should” be. And she challenges us to stop playing small, stop apologizing for what we've built, and start owning the lives we've worked so hard to create. Here's what we explore: Why inherited programming makes self-trust harder for women than men The cultural double standard that shames women for success How female founders get boxed in by guilt, doubt, and “shoulds” The hidden cost of over-functioning and perfectionism Why leadership requires both confidence and compassion This episode is your reminder that you are not broken—and you're not alone. The work ahead isn't about fixing yourself, it's about unlearning what never belonged to you in the first place. Contact Information and Recommended Resources Your journey starts with clarity. Higher food prices, economic instability, and other factors have made providing for a family even harder. 1 in 8 households in the U.S. is food insecure. Also, 16.9% of children live in poverty. SNAP Benefits More than 22 million U.S. households use SNAP benefits to help with food costs, as of April 2023. The TransCon is a self-supported, single-stage bike race across Europe. The clock starts and doesn't stop until you arrive at the finish. And aside from a few checkpoints, there's no set route. Participants map and plan their way across Europe and decide where and when to ride, eat and sleep along the way.In 2016, the race started in Belgium. And 3,800km and 13 days, 10 hours later, Emily arrived in Istambul, winning the women's category in the process! While we discuss some of the events and adventures she's had over the years, there are 2 key themes throughout this conversation.First, why it's important not to let what you've done (or not done) in the past define or limit what you think you're capable of in the future. And secondly, being open to the idea that things which currently seem impossible actually aren't.
Janine Garner grew up on a poultry farm in the north of England and worked her way up the corporate ladder to become the Marketing Manager for high-profile brands like Citizen Watches, Oroton and Ralph Lauren. But ultimately the lifestyle and burnout prompted Janine to walk away from her career and pursue her own business.Fast forward 9 years and she is now a sought-after international keynote speaker and trainer who fulfils her childhood dreams to be on the stage, albeit in a different capacity (you'll have to listen to this episode to hear that story!).Janine is the author of 3 books including her new release ‘Be Brilliant: How to Lead a Life of Influence' which we discuss in-depth in this conversation.
Alyssa Godesky is most well-known these days for being a professional triathlete and the co-host of the popular Ironwomen podcast. What isn't well known is that she was an ultra marathon runner and trail runner, long before she moved into the world of triathlons. In 2018, Alyssa returned to her trail running roots and set out on a mission to break the Fastest Known Time (or FKT) on the Vermont Long Trail in the United States, a 273mi / 440km trail which traverses the State of Vermont from north to south. Now if you saw the film ‘Finding Traction' on Netflix last year, you know more about the Vermont Long Trail than you might think...That film follows legendary trail runner, Nikki Kimball, on her attempt to break the (men's) record on the Vermont Long Trail.#spoileralert Nikki misses the men's record but smashes the women's record. It turns out that watching ‘Finding Traction' lit the spark in Alyssa to wonder if she could do it.Fast forward a few years and in 2018 (#spoileralert), Alyssa set a new women's record of 5 days, 2 hours & 37min, taking over 5 hours off Nikki's record! In this conversation we discuss:- the self-doubt and fear of failure that nearly stopped the project before she'd even started,- the strategies she used to avoid slipping into comparison with Nikki (who is, on paper, by far the more talented and experienced runner),- the sleep deprivation she experienced (after having only 17 hours of sleep in 5 days), and- the (surprising) impact the run (and the stress from it) had on her body, hormonally.
Muay Thai may, on the surface, appear to have nothing in common with endurance sports, but you might be surprised…I was certainly was when I spoke with Sylvie von Duuglas-Ittu for this week's episode of Sparta Chicks Radio.Sylvie is an American born woman living in Thailand who currently holds the record for the most number of Muay Thai fights by any Westerner - male or female - which (at the time of writing) stands at 242.And, much to my surprise, she's been a long-time listener of Sparta Chicks Radio too!Since taking up what she describes as a “beautiful sport” in New York, Sylvie and Kevin have since moved to Thailand so Sylvie can pursue the sport on a full-time basis, and chase her next goal; the World Record for the most number of professional fights. This record of 471 fights has stood since the 1920s!In the conversation, we discuss:- what she gains from listening to the podcast (given she doesn't participate in any of the sports we traditionally cover),- why she thinks Muay Thai and endurance sports have more in common than you might think,- how she discovered Muay Thai and why she describes it as a 'beautiful sport',- why she (as a woman and feminist) struggles with some of the traditions of the sport (eg, men may enter the ring by climbing over the top rope, but women must go under the bottom rope),- why it's important to "reduce the space" you give your self-doubt and focus instead on the process,- how to reframe competition (even in the context of sport) as a collaboration that brings out the best in everyone and an opportunity to practice in gratitude, and- the biggest life lesson she's learnt from her sport.
An elite athlete in two sports and with a PhD in athlete wellbeing, Dr Hannah MacDougall has a unique perspective on emotional, mental and physical performance and wellbeing - so I knew she'd be the perfect guest for Sparta Chicks Radio.Hannah was 9 when she set the goal to become a Paralympian. She's now a dual Paralympian, having competed in swimming at the 2004 Athens and the 2008 Beijng Paralympics.Unfortunately, Hannah suffered from burnout, fell out of love with swimming and eventually quit the sport. And that's when she discovered cycling!Since then, she's won multiple medals including Gold at both the Australian Para Cycling Championships and, more recently, World Cup events in Europe. She was also the first female amputee to compete in the “able bodied” women's time trial race at the Cycling Australia National Championships. And her next goal is to represent Australia at her 3rd Paralympics in Tokyo in 2020, this time in cycling. On top of all that, she has a PhD in Athlete Well-Being and has studied, amongst other things, the use of meditation and mindfulness, in sport and life.

Do you ever feel torn about what to do next? Maybe you're juggling work deadlines, school drop-offs, or endless to-do lists, and each decision feels urgent. When different parts of you want different things, it's easy to get stuck overthinking and second-guessing yourself, leaving you frustrated and unsure of how to move forward. In this episode, I share a three-step framework to help you gain clarity when you feel conflicted. I introduce the concept of your “inner mediator,” a calm, neutral part of yourself that can listen to all sides, weigh priorities, and uncover solutions that honor every perspective. How many times have you second-guessed yourself because your way looked completely different from everyone else's? I've lived that story most of my life, believing that if someone else had more experience, more authority, or more money, then they must be right and I must be wrong. But here's the truth: what's right for them isn't always right for you. In this episode, we'll explore: Why following someone else's path—even if it “works” for them, can leave you miserable How to recognize when you're doubting yourself just because your way looks different Real examples of trusting your gut vs. listening to the crowd And why your “weird” or “ass-backward” way might actually be the exact gift you're here to share If you've been stuck between your own inner knowing and outside pressure, this conversation is your reminder to ask the question—“Who's right, me or them?”—and start choosing yourself every time. And I realized - it's because deep down, they don't believe they deserve it." - Dr. Tara SwartDr. Tara Swart has uncovered something most manifestation experts won't tell you - the real reason your vision board sits incomplete in a drawer somewhere. As a neuroscientist who bridges the gap between ancient wisdom and modern brain science, she's discovered that the biggest obstacle to manifesting isn't your technique or your consistency - it's the quiet voice that whispers you don't deserve what you're asking for. Her own vulnerability in placing her first vision board in her tiny studio apartment bathroom, visible to every visitor, revealed how our fear of judgment often mirrors our deepest self-worth struggles. This conversation will shift how you think about goal-setting forever. Dr. Swart breaks down the brain chemistry behind why gratitude literally rewires your neural pathways from fear-based cortisol to love-based oxytocin, making you naturally more willing to take the healthy risks your dreams require. Lewis shares his own daily gratitude practice and how it's become his gateway to abundance, while Dr. Swart explains why your amygdala keeps replaying every past rejection to keep you "safe" from trying again. You'll discover why action boards work better than vision boards, and how to hack your brain's survival mechanisms to support your biggest aspirations instead of sabotaging them.Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter
