The government has signed off on a 112-billion-euro capital investment package out to the end of the decade. A further 100 billion is being planned for the years 2030 to 2035. The National Development Plan review injects further cash from the Apple Tax and AIB share sales. 24 billion of that money will be put into transport, including public transport. While 36 billion euro is being provided to 2030 for housing - not including investment in water. Tánaiste Simon Harris says the money will contribute to huge infrastructure improvements. Zur Erinnerung: Als es 2017 um die Umsetzung des 2-Prozent Ziels der NATO ging, hat der damalige deutsche Außenminister Gabriel sich dagegen ausgesprochen und ironisch gefragt, wie viele Flugzeugträger Deutschland denn davon kaufen und unterhalten solle.Nun hat die NATO Trumps 5-Prozent Ziel durchgedrückt, wobei 3,5 Prozent in Rüstung gesteckt werden sollen, während 1,5 Prozent für „kriegswichtige“ Infrastruktur verwendet werden sollen. Für Deutschland bedeutet das beispielsweise, dass es statt etwa 45 Milliarden Euro vor einigen Jahren, bald über 140 Milliarden pro Jahr für Waffen ausgeben soll. Und Sigmar Gabriel, der inzwischen einen gut bezahlten Posten bei den Lobbyisten der Transatlantiker bekommen hat, findet das vollkommen in Ordnung.Das Problem dabei ist, dass all das auf Pump finanziert wird, um die unvermeidlichen, harten Einschnitte in die europäischen Sozialsysteme noch ein paar Jahre aufzuschieben. Die Politiker lügen, wenn sie behaupten, dass das alles ohne soziale Einschnitte gehen kann. Diese Einschnitte wird es spätestens dann geben, wenn Zinsen und Tilgung für die Schulden zu laufen beginnen.Die eine Billion Euro, die Bundeskanzler Merz dafür in den nächsten Jahren an Schulden aufnehmen will, werden dann im günstigsten Fall 30 Milliarden Euro jährliche Kreditkosten verursachen – und das Geld wird man über Einschnitte im Sozialbereich aufbringen, weil das dann als „alternativlos“ bezeichnet werden wird. Hohe Kosten von rund 1 Billion Euro, erhebliche Freiheitsbeschränkungen und hohe sekundäre Kollateralschäden seien Folgen der deutschen Corona-Politik, so Alexander Kekulé, Professor für Virologie und Mikrobiologie. Auch Christian Drostens Vorgänger am Institut für Virologie an der Berliner Charité, Detlev Krüger, übte deutliche Kritik.

Deutschland steht vor der nächsten Zeitenwende, obwohl die letzte noch gar nicht abgeschlossen ist. Auf der einen Seite hat Donald Trump im Eiltempo das westliche Verteidigungsbündnis ins Wanken gebracht, auf der anderen Seite steht die Bedrohung durch Russland. Die Politik in Deutschland ist unter Zugzwang, sicherheits- und verteidigungspolitisch schneller und entschlossener zu agieren. Die CDU hat deshalb, noch bevor die Koalitionsverhandlungen richtig begonnen haben, drastische Entscheidungen getroffen: Sie kassiert ihr Wahlversprechen ein, setzt noch mit den Stimmen des alten Bundestags die Schuldenbremse für Verteidigungsausgaben jenseits von 1 % des BIP aus und beschließt zusätzlich ein Sondervermögen von 500 Milliarden Euro für Infrastruktur und Klimaneutralität. Faktisch ermöglicht der CDU-Parteivorsitzende Friedrich Merz damit die Aufnahme von bis zu einer Billion Euro an Schulden. Schafft die CDU so die Zeitenwende?

Am 21. März 2025 passierte die Grundgesetzänderung nun auch den Bundesrat, damit ist klar: Deutschland wird deutlich mehr Schulden für Landesverteidigung und Infrastruktur aufnehmen. Welche Folgen hat dies für den Immobilienmarkt, worauf müssen sich Kapitalanleger nun einstellen? Mit Zustimmung des Bundesrats ist ein weiteres "Sondervermögen" beschlossen. 500 Milliarden Euro können in den nächsten zehn Jahren in neue Investitionen fließen, zum Beispiel in die Verkehrsinfrastruktur. Zwanzig Prozent davon, also 100 Milliarden, sind für den Klima- und Transformationsfonds reserviert und weitere 100 Milliarden für Projekte, über die die Bundesländer eigenständig entscheiden können. Außerdem haben Bundestag und die Länderkammer das Grundgesetz dahingehend geändert, dass die Schuldenbremse für Verteidigungsausgaben gelockert wird. Alle Ausgaben über einem Prozent des Bruttoinlandprodukts unterliegen künftig nicht mehr der Schuldenbremse. Das Paket wird gerne als "historisch" bezeichnet. Und dazu gerne eine Summe von bis zu einer Billion Euro genannt, die durch diese Maßnahmen in die Hand genommen werden könnten. Der Politikwissenschaftler Prof. Thorsten Faas vom Otto-Suhr-Institut der FU Berlin sieht im Gespräch mit "Politik und Hintergrund" in den hohen Erwartungen auch eine Gefahr. Das Schuldenpaket könnte für die nächste Bundesregierung also nicht nur Chancen bieten, sondern auch zur Belastung werden. In dieser Ausgabe von Politik und Hintergrund schauen wir auf die AfD-Fraktion im Neuen Deutschen Bundestag, der sich am Dienstag konstituieren wird. Die in Teilen rechtsextreme Partei hat ihre Sitze im Parlament fast verdoppelt und ist stärkste Oppositionskraft mit mehr Rederecht und mehr Geld. Beobachter erwarten eine weitere Radikalisierung - auch durch Fraktionsmitglieder, die in der Vergangenheit schon mit rechtsextremen Äußerungen Aufsehen erregten. Außerdem geht es um oft von chinesischen Eigentümern betriebene Minen in Afrika. Diese missachten häufig die Sicherheitsvorschriften, die wiederum oft zu lax sind. In Sambia ist nun ein Damm einer Kupfermine gebrochen. Das dadurch verseuchte Wasser bedroht die Trinkwasserzugänge für Millionen Menschen. Kupfer ist ein begehrter Rohstoff und wird v.a. für Mobiltelefone und Elektrofahrzeuge verwendet. Ein besonders grausames Kapitel des russischen Angriffskriegs gegen die Ukraine ist die gezielte Verschleppung ukrainischer Kinder nach Russland. Die Zahl variiert, wird auf 20- bis 30.000 geschätzt. Gegen Putin hat der Internationale Strafgerichtshof deswegen einen Haftbefehl erlassen. Jetzt wurde bekannt, dass die US-Regierung im Zuge der Behördenverschlankung durch Elon Musk Wissenschaftlern die Mittel gestrichen hat, um die Spur der von Russland verschleppten Kindern fortsetzen zu können.Auch das ein Thema bei uns wie auch die erneute israelische Offensive aus der Luft und mit Bodentruppen im Gazastreifen. Über 400 Menschen kamen im Zuge der ersten Angriffe ums Leben nach Angaben der von der Hamas kontrollierten Gesundheitsbehörde. Israels Regierungschef Netanjahu will die noch in der Gewalt der Hamas verbliebenen Geiseln mit militärischem Druck freibekommen. Doch sein Vorgehen hilft den Falschen, sagt unser Kommentator. Bei den Koalitionsverhandlungen wird das Bürgergeld eine wichtige Rolle spielen. Der alte Bundestag, eigentlich abgewählt, darf noch schnell das Grundgesetz ändern. Dass ein neuer Bundestag bereits gewählt ist und in den Startlöchern steht, spielt dabei keine Rolle, entschied das Bundesverfassungsgericht am Freitagnachmittag. "Ein schwarzer Tag für Deutschland", meint Roland Tichy. Er kommentiert das Ergebnis einer Politik, der das Demokratieprinzip und die Einhaltung von Versprechen nichts bedeuten. Die Rechnung für diese Politik wird wohl mehr als eine Billion Euro kosten - und viele Bürger in den Ruin treiben.

Fast eine Billion Euro an neuen Schulden sollen in die Bundeswehr und Infrastrukturmaßnahmen investiert werden. Die Finanzierung ist dabei vielen Menschen ein Rätsel. Die Schuldenquote Deutschlands würde definitiv steigen, aber die Investitionen würden auch wie ein Konjunkturprogramm. Gleichzeitig fahren die Aktienmärkte Achterbahn. Schuld daran ist auch der erratische Kurs des amerikanischen Präsidenten Donald Trump, der durch wankelmütige Wirtschaftspolitik und Rezessionsäußerungen die Unsicherheit an den Märkten anfacht.

Tranzaura, a leading global fleet management firm, has announced the launch of its industry-first AI-powered fleet intelligence software that will reduce costs for transport and fleet companies and improve their operational efficiency by up to 30%. The first-of-its-kind in the industry, FleetNow delivers accurate and actionable intelligence in real-time, identifying where fleet managers can make data-driven decisions, by tracking major expenses like fuel, vehicle maintenance, compliance and labour. The software maximises efficiency, allowing transport and fleet companies to get more done, faster and with fewer resources, resulting in reduced costs and increased profitability. Driven by the success of FleetNow, Tranzaura is set for significant growth with plans to expand its workforce by 50% over the next 12 months, adding to its current headcount of 22 employees. Irish fleet sector The fleet sector in Ireland represents a multi-billion euro market annually, with a market size ranging between €3 - 5 billion per year, according to industry data. FleetNow was developed by Tranzaura to address the longstanding industry challenge of disconnected data and fragmented systems that slow down and inhibit the decisions of the majority of transport and fleet management companies globally. The total number of registered vehicles in Ireland is approximately 2.8 million, around 700,000 or 25% of those vehicles are business or fleet vehicles. This includes a wide range of fleet vehicles, from delivery vans to heavy trucks, operating in various industries across the country. At any given time, there are at least 100,000 commercial vehicles registered for fleet operations on Irish roads. Delivering precise data The Limerick-based firm, which has operations in Ireland, the UK and Australia, forecasts that FleetNow will deliver precise data on a fleet's performance and outgoing costs up to 20-times faster than competing fleet management systems. The software will save fleet professionals up to 80-hours in administration a month, according to Tranzaura, who expect demand for the software to reach at least 500 global fleets in its first year. The software can deliver and pinpoint intelligence like usage, carbon savings or when a vehicle will need maintenance, helping fleet managers identify, for example, how they can better manage their carbon emissions. Even if advocates fail to increase aid budgets, they could be successful in preventing cuts.
