Before superstar sisters Beyoncé and Solange embarked on their own successful careers, the younger Knowles tested the waters for herself while staying in the family business. Billboard is sharing an exclusive clip focusing on Beyoncé and Solange and how the latter was often overshadowed by the success of her big sister. While Beyoncé took flight with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams in Destiny's Child , one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, she took Solange under her wing to become one of DC's backup dancers. “I remember meeting a young girl and I remember asking someone, ‘How is she here? She's really young, she's a kid.' And one of the other dancers said, ‘That's Beyoncé's sister Solange,'” recalls choreographer Brian Friedman, who worked on Destiny's Child's “Survivor” performance at the 2001 Soul Train Awards, where they won the Sammy Davis Jr. Award for Entertainer of the Year – Female. (Coincidentally, Jay-Z won the same award in the male category that night.) “It was like, ‘Oh, OK, let's see what she's got.' But Solange could dance. That was the thing. She was a talented girl who just so happened to be the little sister of a massive star.” At age 14, Solange ended up replacing an injured Rowland when DC opened up for Christina Aguilera during her 2000 tour and began working on her debut album Solo Star after being signed to their father Mathew Knowles' Music World Entertainment label with Columbia Records. The lead single “Feelin' You (Part II),” featuring N.O.R.E. , ended up becoming her first hit on Billboard ‘s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles Sales chart, reaching No. 3 in 2003. Watch an exclusive clip of the “Star Sisters” episode before it airs Saturday at 11:00 p.m. ET on E! below. From Publisher: Billboard Teen-built robot Beyonce puts a ring on virtual robotics competition While many spent the long weekend soaking up the sun, a team of high school students were hard at work at Vancouver Island Tech Park taking part in a virtual robotics competition against other teams from B.C. and Washington with their robot, Beyonce. On April 3 the FIX IT Robotics team – a team of students from across Greater Victoria – began running matches with the robot they've been working on since September. Together with their alliance partners who conferenced in virtually, the teens strategized, executed and uploaded their completed matches. Ines Khouider, a Grade 12 student at St. Margaret's school, has been a programmer on the FIX IT team for four years. She became interested in robots and engineering in middle school and “looked up to the older robotics kids” on the FIX IT team who ran workshops for younger students like herself. After learning that her high school didn't have a robotics team, she joined the community team which, before the pandemic, met in the evenings at the Victoria Makerspace at the tech park. The Saturday competition, the local FIRST Tech Challenge, was one in a series the team will take part in before the season champions are announced on May 15.

This conversation with Shockwave is deep and very important to listen about the expectations that we have as humans in which we have the power to improve in society. In this episode you will learn about:Where your street dance movements come from. The importance of you knowing where styles originated. How you can improve society expectations by being yourself and not following the leader. How some trends become toxic instead of creating unity. How artists can create more money by working together to create a better financial industry. The glass has been shattered and you need to be agile in the new global mobility era. Partner Julia Onslow-Cole and industry veteran Brian Friedman take a look at how the pandemic has changed, and continues to change, the immigration and relocation landscape. On the show today, I had the opportunity to talk to one of my best friends of all time Brian Friedman, who I had met on his first day at SUNY Binghamton in the Summer of 1994 when he tried out for the Jazz Band as this hot young drummer from Long Island. There are work buddies, there are colleagues, there are friends, and then there are the lifers; the legacy non-biological “family” members who stick by you through thick and thin. These are relationships where you each know the other one better than you know yourself; Someone for whom the idea of “May our secrets die with us” underscores your love and trust. Brian pretty much lived my cancer diagnosis and treatment first hand with me the entire time and was one of those anchor friends who — unlike some other folks — did not abandon me. Rather, he doubled down, stood by my side, was there for me, and — when necessary — held my head over the toilet when I was uncontrollably puking from cancer treatment. Brian is a true renaissance man continually reinventing himself with an audacious self-awareness about fear, failure, and regret that has driven him to achieve incredible things and inspire me all along the way. He’s a rock. He’s a mensch. He was Best Man at my wedding. And I hope you enjoy our throwback chat. Enjoy the show. More about Brian at https://www.b-freed.com.

This week's guest, thanks to cohost Alan Hess, is Las Vegas based corporate event, concert and portrait photographer, Brian Friedman. Even if you don't know the name, you'll know his work. If you love photography you'll love listening to Brian's enthusiasm for his craft. I didn't know where it would take me, but I knew it would be the adventure of a lifetime. Photographing people and events has opened up my world beyond my wildest dreams. Making art from what I see has become a true calling, and one I strive to do better and better, shoot by shoot. Access is a privelege I take very seriously. Whether I am backstage at an event, in close proximity to a subject, or in the audience, my goal is to capture the true essence of what's happening before me. I love it, and I'll never stop doing it.Photographer Brian Friedman started out as a road manager for the legendary jazz drummer Roy Haynes. But it was during Haynes’ 20-city tour, that Brian began photographing Roy and discovered his passion for image making that put him on a road to a new career. Since then, he has sharpened his skills and his eye to become recognized as a photographer of choice by noted entertainment personalities, corporate leaders, event planners and discerning individuals. His clients include iHeartRadio, Clearchannel Communications, NBC, CBS, 20th Century Fox, and comedians Brian Regan and Bill Burr, to name a few. Brian’s images have appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, People, Playboy, The Economist, and Pollstar to name a few. In 2007-2008 Brian had the distinct honor of photographing Barack and Michelle Obama for the Obama for America campaign. Recently Brian was given a 5 page live concert photography spread in M Music & Musician’s magazine – a first for that publication. To all of these assignments, Brian brings the same level of imagination and creativity that has distinguished his vision and his work for more than a decade.

Whether if you're 5 or if you're 50. Like if you can connect with people and make them feel comfortable and make the feel interested and that to me sort of when I look at it now on a broader scale everything is like that. Even within just regular academic school some of the most boring subjects that I had in college were the most interesting because I loved my professors. I think like I took like a history of Los Angeles Economics or something it was just very bland topic and I ended up doing a whole honors research paper on it because my professor was really cool. She just made it so interesting for me. • In Session - https://www.facebook.com/KarenChuangChoreography/videos/in-session-with-sorah-and-karen/861496313991633/ • Sorah Yang - https://www.instagram.com/sorahyang/ • Gaga Improv - http://gagapeople.com/english/about-gaga/ • Starry Eyed - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNuSjQaI8ag 1:01:02 I feel like I've never…I definitely believe for myself that there is something greater than where I'm at now. Today´s guest is New York based wedding and music photographer Brian Friedman. I first bumped into his name a couple of years ago when I was reading his article on F Stoppers on how he went from part time to full time music photographer. Brian shared his 7 top tips including “You have to believe in yourself. When you do this dreams can and do come true”. I totally agree on this, because I had similar experiences and therefore I wanted to have Brian on the show to discuss this topic in more detail In addition Brian gives us a reality check on how the photography business really works and why we all have to hustle in order to be successful. He will share his stories when he met celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Barack Obama and he will explain why you should find your own vision.
