What happens when you put more than 25 Omaha food and drink businesses under one roof? Omaha shows up. In this special Restaurant Hoppen segment from Hurrdat and Yelp's food event at the Kiewit Luminarium, Dan Hoppen sits down with Meg Bauer, Yelp Omaha's Community Manager, to talk about the event, the local businesses that helped make it happen, and why collaboration is such an important part of Omaha's food culture. Meg explains why Yelp wanted to create a sampling-style food event where guests could experience a huge variety of local flavors in one night while also supporting the Kiewit Luminarium. The event brought together more than 25 food and drink vendors, representing different cuisines, neighborhoods and types of businesses. She also talks about how Yelp and other local organizations built the vendor lineup, why giving smaller or less-visible businesses a chance to participate matters, and how Omaha's food community continues to support one another. And there's a special moment for Restaurant Hoppen: Meg talks about the importance of Dan's role in amplifying local restaurants and calls his participation in the event a huge get for Yelp and its participating businesses.

Where did Joseph Smith get the idea of temples? It sounds like a simple question, but historian John Hamer’s answer stretches from the Bible to a domed assembly hall in Independence, Missouri, and includes a temple that was called for by revelation, designed by an architect, and never built. Solomon’s temple is only one model, he explains. The New Testament offers another: the idea that the new covenant fulfilled the old, along with the gatherings of the early Christians in the Book of Acts. That second vision, he says, shaped the Kirtland Temple, a building of stacked assembly halls, and it became the model for Community of Christ’s understanding of temples ever after. When Community of Christ members regathered in Jackson County, Missouri, they wanted a temple on that Kirtland model. What they built, John argues, was Frederick Madison Smith’s Auditorium, a massive assembly hall that he sees as a 20th-century version of the Kirtland Temple in everything but name. He points to a published drawing of Joseph Smith III’s temple vision, which looks like the Auditorium with steeples added, and notes that the Auditorium was built without them. Then the story turns. Smith’s assertion of church authority sparked a schism, and a couple thousand members moved to the Temple Lot church, the Hedrickites. Their own temple plans carried the same Kirtland DNA. Otto Fetting’s revelations called for a temple, and an architect gave it a front like a Greek temple, or a bank, and a long, thin plan with one assembly hall stacked atop another. It was never built. The Depression hit, Fetting was pushed out of the church, and the diggers had to fill in the hole they had started. Restoration Groups Idea of Temples Splinter groups from Community of Christ have echoed the pattern since. John describes the Remnant Church’s headquarters in an old high school across from the Temple Lot, with an inner room of Kirtland-style pulpits and a planned community center with a Kirtland-like exterior that was never built. When he asked its president whether that was a temple, the answer was no. Then the conversation moves to Nauvoo, where something new enters. The Nauvoo temple began with Kirtland-style assembly halls but added a basin in the basement resting on oxen, drawn from Solomon’s temple. John connects that shift to the Old Testament practices Joseph Smith was restoring, including plural marriage, and to Freemasonry, whose traditions claim a lineage back to Solomon’s temple. That Nauvoo model, he says, went on to shape the other branches. Together, these threads show two rival visions of what a temple is: the Kirtland idea of a place of assembly, and the Nauvoo idea of an Old Testament-style house of ordinances. This first conversation of the six-part series lays out that fork in the road. Grok, Claude 5.1 & ChatGPT 6: Was die neuen KI-Modelle wirklich bedeuten   Drei große KI-Releases in einer Woche – Grok, Claude 5.1 und ChatGPT 6 (Astra). TJ ordnet ein, welche Features für Unternehmer tatsächlich relevant sind und was davon nur Schlagzeilen produziert. Wer verstehen will, warum führende US-Podcasts inzwischen Doppelfolgen schieben, findet hier die Antwort.   Warum die KI-Welt gerade Doppelfolgen produziert Das Tempo hat ein neues Level erreicht. Führende US-Podcasts wie All-In oder One Shot, die normalerweise eine Folge pro Woche veröffentlichen, schieben inzwischen teilweise zwei – weil so viel passiert, dass eine Folge schlicht nicht mehr reicht. TJ stellt genau diesen Punkt an den Anfang: Wir befinden uns auf der exponentiellen Kurve der Entwicklung, nicht irgendwo am Fuß davon. Drei maßgebliche Releases in einer einzigen Woche sind kein Ausrutscher, sondern das neue Normal. Wer das versteht, denkt bei jeder Planungsrunde schon einen Schritt weiter.   Grok: Elon Musk kommt mit Lichthupe xAI – das Unternehmen hinter Grok, das TJ im Originalton noch als SpaceX bezeichnet – hat eine agentische, cloudbasierte Plattform auf den Markt gebracht, die einige bemerkenswerte Kernfeatures mitbringt. TJ beschreibt es bildlich: Elon Musk kommt auf der linken Spur mit Lichthupe. Ob er die etablierten Platzhirsche tatsächlich überholt, ist offen – es gibt Stimmen, die sagen, er liege noch deutlich hinten. Aber: Grok-Features wandern bereits. Google Gemini und Anthropic werden sie übernehmen. Deshalb lohnt es sich jetzt, einen Blick reinzuwerfen – nicht weil Grok das beste Modell ist, sondern weil es zeigt, wohin die Reise geht.   Claude 5.1 und das Token-Kostenproblem Claude 5 hat bei vielen für echte Begeisterung gesorgt – neue Energie, neue Inspiration, handfeste Ergebnisse in der KI-Entwicklung. Das Problem: vierstellige Tokenkosten an einem einzigen Tag. TJ kennt das aus eigener Erfahrung. Opus 5 hat dieses Problem bereits teilweise adressiert und ähnliche Leistung zu niedrigeren Preisen geliefert. Claude 5.1 greift diesen Faden jetzt erneut auf und versucht, die Balance zwischen Leistung und Kosten besser hinzubekommen. Für alle, die Claude 5 produktiv einsetzen wollen, aber am Preisschild gescheitert sind, ist das die relevanteste Neuigkeit dieser Releases.   ChatGPT 6 (Astra): Der Vollständigkeit halber Wenige Tage nach den anderen Releases hat OpenAI ChatGPT 6 unter dem Codenamen Astra veröffentlicht. TJ erwähnt es als dritten Pfeiler der Woche, ohne es übermäßig zu dramatisieren. Das ist selbst eine Aussage: Selbst ein GPT-Majorreleases geht inzwischen fast unter, wenn gleichzeitig zwei andere Anbieter neue Modelle droppen. Die Botschaft dahinter ist dieselbe wie bei Grok – Features wandern zwischen den Anbietern, kein Modell hält seinen Vorsprung lange. Wer heute auf ein einziges System setzt, sollte das bewusst tun.   Fazit: Nicht das Modell entscheidet – die Geschwindigkeit Drei Releases, eine Woche, kein Ende in Sicht. Das eigentliche Takeaway dieser Folge ist nicht, welches Modell gerade vorne liegt. Es ist die Erkenntnis, dass Alleinstellungsmerkmale im KI-Markt eine Halbwertszeit von wenigen Wochen haben. Was Grok heute kann, übernimmt Google Gemini morgen. Was Claude 5 kostet, löst Claude 5.1 übermorgen. In Partnership, By Community – We continue our walk through the New Testament and, currently, through the writings of the apostle Paul, with today's reading from Philemon, a letter in which Paul addresses a younger colleague. Also, this is College Sunday, and the liturgists and preacher in both services are college students, most of whom are in the Vandy Wesley group that is hosted by our church. Preaching today is Amber Lewis, a sophomore at Vanderbilt. She begins by citing the Hebrew word, “shalom,” which can mean peace and wholeness. She describes life as a college student as demanding, and thus at times an experience of scarcity rather than shalom. Most people experience scarcity: some experience scarcity of time, focus, or even of food, jobs, housing. But scarcity can be overcome by partnership. We can be agents of Jesus by partnering with others who experience scarcity. Paul's description of partnership includes love at the core.

We investigate the alleged evidence, which involves reading surprisingly vulgar passages from Snake's Bigfoot Bible. Along the way, we check the reaction of rival Bigfoot research organizations and get too many details about a sexual escapade involving SpaghettiOs that supposedly unlocked new mysteries about the place of humans in the tree of life. But after we learn that “Snake's” name isn't really “Charles Stuart,” we're left wondering whether exposing an elaborate hoax just earns us a supporting role in a carefully-curated performance. A federal immigration agent who shot and wounded a man in north Minneapolis this winter pleaded not guilty Friday to federal charges of lying to the FBI. Prosecutors say ICE agent Christian Castro shot through the door of a Minneapolis home, injuring Julio Sosa-Celis, and later lied to investigators about what happened. A federal judge set Castro's bond at $75,000 with conditions. Castro also faces state assault charges in connection with the shooting.An outside investigation into St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her found she engaged in “offensive and inappropriate behavior” with city employees, but did not substantiate allegations that she sexually harassed or retaliated against employees. The findings were released Friday and outline steps for Her to take, including workplace conduct training. Her says she will comply. The investigation followed a complaint filed by Police Chief Axel Henry.Early voting for the midterm elections begins Friday in Minnesota. Community leaders are encouraging people to make a plan to vote and are organizing efforts to help people get to the polls and understand their voting rights. Mail-in voting procedures in Minnesota have not changed from past years. Residents can vote in person starting Friday, and voting information and locations are available through the Secretary of State's office.

In this episode of the Explaining History Podcast, we explore Keith Lowe's *Prisoners of History* and the contested world of memorialisation – focusing on one of the strangest and most controversial memorial sites in Europe.Monuments occupy public space, and they impose meaning on it. Walk through any city and you'll find statues placed with particular agendas – to memorialise the past in certain ways, to place a particular interpretation on history. As a result, they are almost always contested. The recent removal of statues associated with the transatlantic slave trade, from Edward Colston in Bristol to Confederate monuments across the American South, provoked a furious reaction from the right, who framed it as a free speech issue. What they were really defending was the right of white supremacy to own and occupy public space.Keith Lowe argues that there is no escaping the monsters of our past. We can try to ignore them, rehabilitate them, or annihilate them – but their absence becomes its own kind of presence. There is only one final course open to us: ridicule.This brings us to Grūtas Park in Lithuania – a sculpture park displaying the statues of Stalin, Lenin, and other Soviet figures that were torn down after independence in 1990. Lithuania's 20th century was one of repeated invasion, occupation, and mass deportation. Around 300,000 Lithuanians were sent to Soviet gulags in the 1940s and 50s. So when independence came, the statues were decapitated, blowtorched, and dynamited. The government then stored the best-known examples in warehouses – until a former wrestling champion and mushroom farmer named Viliumas Malinauskas offered to take them off their hands and build a park.His proposals were extraordinary: tourists arriving on cattle trucks, actors dressed as guards herding them onto trains, barbed wire, guard towers, the whole gulag experience. Critics called it a "Stalin theme park." Over a million people signed a petition against it. Former partisans and political prisoners accused Malinauskas of profiting from their misery.But the park opened anyway – and became a hit. What makes Grūtas Park so interesting, and so troubling, is that it creates a space that is completely ahistorical. It was built in the era of the "end of history," when we thought we could turn the past into a meaningless theme park.History didn't end.
