On this episode of Woody Adjacent, James brings us what seemed like a great recommendation ..only to find not only disappointment but some unfortunate behind the scenes details that still lead to a great conversation regardless :) Fools Paradise (2023) tells the story of a mute man recently released from a mental health facility. It is a double feature this week/ On this just a sip episode Kevin discusses the new film written, directed by, and starring Charlie Day. Dougie on the other side of the show brings us back to a small British gem called “I Used to be Famous.” Dougie's film is about a guy who used to be famous and has fallen from the spotlight but may find redemption with a neurodivergent friend he makes along the trip. Kevin's movie finds a man who is thrust into the spotlight and shows the audience what fame can do to someone who doesn't even want it.

Het is de good old Gamekings presentator David.

Most of us have bought into the lie that we need to know how things are going to work out if we’re going to move forward in life. If we’re going to accomplish the dreams that have been planted in our hearts, then we need clarity so that we can move forward. Join us online as Randy dives into another lie that the world has sold us, because if we’re believing this lie, then we’re going nowhere in life.
When we chase lies that we want to believe are true, we are living in a fool’s paradise. We all have lies that we want to believe, and one of those lies that have infiltrated the church is, “If I go, I will grow.” In other words, if I go to church then I will automatically grow as a follower of Jesus. But nothing could be further from the truth. Join us as Randy talks about the importance of what it means to grow and how that growth can actually happen in the life of a believer.

LaFern Cusack and Bill Burns discuss the whiniest man on earth, grumpy old folks and tools to overcome a fools paradise.
This episode focuses on the rapidly approaching Fool’s Paradise extravaganza and includes interviews with festival promoter Paul Levine, as well as performers Eric “Benny” Bloom of Lettuce and Tom Hamilton of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead. Levine discusses how the seeds of the festival’s location were planted when an Umphrey’s McGee festival (which also featured Lettuce) was moved from a civil war fort to the idyllic St. Augustine Amphitheatre in St. Augustine, FL two years ago. He talks about his career as a promoter, about working with Lettuce to curate the festival (“we’ve always enjoyed working together… doing things to promote and advance funk music”), and about an excursion which this year will be offered to Fool’s Paradise attendees (“you can go on a boat for a couple hours and have wine and beer with some of the guys from Lettuce”). Then a portion of last fall’s Lockn’ Festival enters the episode where Benny Bloom talks about meeting, then playing with Lettuce for the first time. Bloom talks about how he would quickly become a key part of the band and assume the trumpet role full-time, and about why he particularly enjoys playing for the funk/jam band world. The dynamic Tom Hamilton, who will be performing with Joe Russo’s Almost Dead at this year’s Fool’s Paradise, steps up to the plate next and talks about the boundless spontaneity of the band. He also compares what its like playing in a band with the drummer as the “Point Man” in Almost Dead to being the “Point Man” himself in Billy and The Kids, the ensemble with the Dead’s own Bill Kreutzmann. The entire Hamilton interview is included in Episode 20 of Inside Out WTNS. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Free Duval: Session 1
The Blue Paradise, like many cocktails with blue in the name, is not blue. The ingredients must be blue then, right? Nope, purple, red and brown and we can pretty much guarantee that the mixing of these colors do not make blue either. This non-blue drink is credited to a Belgian bartender by the name of Emil Bauwens, of Bar Saint-James in Brussels, showing up first in the cocktail book Livre de Cocktails (1949) and really nowhere else. A name like Blue Paradise conjures images of beaches, palm trees, and tiki drinks with little umbrellas. The ingredients, however, don't lend itself to something you would drink out of a pineapple. These ingredients do break away from the many, many, many gin plus another ingredient cocktails that dominate recipe books. Outside of the cognac, there are two pretty uncommon ingredients for cocktails in Dubonnet Rouge and Parfait d'Amour. Dubonnet Rouge is an apertif with a deep red color and a wine base. Parfait d'Amour, a purple liqueur of Dutch origins with a Curacao base and flowery ingredients, stands out as the most unusual of the ingredients. It may look like melted grape popsicles, but the taste is probably closer to eating rose petals. Unfortunately, the color and ingredients don't give any hints to the origin of the name, and there is really no other indication. Only Bauwens could really explain how it came to be. Join us as we discuss this enigmatically-named cocktail that digs up a libretto with the same name and the possibility that Henry the IV used Parfait d'Amour to seduce women. We also pose the question: Were dyes being put in liqueurs to make sure people weren't accidentally drinking the wrong clear liquid? Here are the drink ingredients: 2 oz – cognac (we used Remy Martin) 1 oz – Dubbonet Rouge 4 dashes – Parfait Amour We tried the parfait amour initially by itself...because that's how we do. Kevin remarked that it tasted like Goo Gone smells, a popular adhesive solvent. I thought it was mostly and non-commitally interesting; not terrible but not amazing. I loved trying it though, I haven't tried anything like it so far. The cocktail itself was likewise interesting. We weren't bowled over and I found the Dubonnet dominated the flavor of the drink. My overall impression was kind of a synthetic vinyly taste, and I know that sounds bad, but knowing that it isn't actually some kind of liquid polymer makes the beverage interesting as I tried to pull out all of the flavors gathered together in one glass. We all agreed it was not a go to cocktail but fun nevertheless to try and discuss.
