*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. If you want an ad-free experience, you can subscribe below underneath the show description. In a recent interview, Dr Steven Greer once more made bold statements about UFOs that seemed to be anything but a fresh series of data points. He claimed the Trump administration is looking into stopping weather control and fixing energy issues, something UFO-tech could, if our imaginations are true, assist with to revolutionize the world. Dr Greer claims that the current coverup has left us in slavery and poverty… but not to worry because the UFO could bring us peace. He goes on to describe how Trump knows about wireless free energy, especially because of his uncle John G. Trump having handled many of the so-called Tesla papers. Greer also accused Elon Musk of lying about what corporations have in regard to the UFO. The overall theme of the interview was nothing more than the espousing of a religion. Dr Greer believes all the bad things are caused by humans and all the good things can be offered by the UFO. They will save us from pollution, economic insecurity, and even war. They will bring us the peace of a universal savior. These are all themes we also find linked to UFO abductions, which may have a strong connection to deep unconscious psychological fears. What is truly interesting is that all of these statements are reminiscent of other ideologies: The idea that the President has some secret knowledge that the public also somehow knows, but he can't disclose it for national security reasons, but he might if we are good, truly stinks of the Q-Anon cult. The idea that UFOs can save us from energy problems, pollution and weather related phenomena is just a more supernatural take on the climate change cult - humans are bad, etc., but either technocrats or aliens will be our saviors. But the idea that these craft have humanity's best interest in mind is based on shocking assumptions about dozens of different things: much of which is fallacy and our perception of time in regard to why they haven't just killed us already. If that wasn't enough, Dan Farah, the guy who produced Ready Player One, released a new documentary on UFOs at SXSW. This documentary explores the ideas of why UFO information cannot be revealed necessarily - because it would be unsafe to disclose what other countries could turn into weapons, something Dr Greer also claimed in the former interview. In other words, UFO disclosure would result in societal destruction. How interesting that this idea has been around since 1961 when NASA submitted “Proposed Studies on the Implications of Peaceful Space Activities for Human Affairs” to the U.S. Congress. Otherwise known as the Brookings Report, the document states: “Anthropological files contain many examples of societies, sure of their place in the universe, which have disintegrated when they had to associate with previously unfamiliar societies espousing different ideas and different life ways; others that survived such an experience usually did so by paying the price of changes in values and attitudes and behavior." This paragraph became part of the UFO-mythos with people still debating today if UFOs would destroy society by simply revealing their presence, something that would also happen if the Federal government revealed the same. This is all speculation, anecdotal, and subjective. Therefore much of this talk about disclosure is another version of the Epstein file release. There is something else lurking in the shadows. And if one were worried about the Carol Rosin statement - 'And remember Carol, the last card is the alien card. We're going to have to build space based weapons against aliens,' and all of it, he said, is a lie” - it should be known that there only need be a “threat,” not an alien invasion or project Bluebeam, which itself was only a theory proposed Serge Monast in the 1990s. And that THREAT was already identified; it has been with us the whole time. The UFO is inherently a threat. Recall the “Preliminary Assessment: UAP” report, released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence in 2021: “UAP pose a hazard to safety of flight and could pose a broader danger if some instances represent sophisticated collection against U.S. military activities by a foreign government or demonstrate a breakthrough aerospace technology by a potential adversary.” This then brings us to the Club of Rome and its original report called “The First Global Revolution,” which discusses in 1991: “In searching for the new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. In their totality and in their interactions these phenomena do constitute a common threat which demands the solidarity of all peoples. But in designating them as the enemy, we fall into the trap about which we have already warned, namely mistaking symptoms for cause. All these dangers are caused by human intervention and it is only through changing attitudes and behaviors that they can be overcome.  The real enemy, then, is humanity itself.” When Dan Farah was interviewed about his recent movie, he said “my interest in it really comes from growing up in the '80s and '90s and watching movies like E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind countless times,” films we know were a result of, or partially a result of, a military-intelligence-government operation to flood pop culture with just such themes for a variety of experimental reasons - the Robertson Panel Report. The UFO-mythos has evolved steadily into a rebranded Great Reset, a promise of utopia and a new golden age. -FREE ARCHIVE (w. ads)SUBSCRIPTION ARCHIVEX / TWITTER FACEBOOKWEBSITECashApp: $rdgable EMAIL: rdgable@yahoo.com / TSTRadio@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/tst-radio--5328407/support.

This week we discussed the thought of one of 20th-century Marxism's socialist opponents, Tomáš Masaryk. Masaryk was reviled by Czech communists until they appropriated him and he was an opponent of capitalism until the champions of capitalism did the same. He was a social democrat with an ethical and Christian-humanist vision of socialism that inspired the Prague Spring but was later coopted by the opponents of the working class and human liberation. A State without Suicidehttps://www.commonwealmagazine.org/state-without-suicide Betts, R. Leslie is joined by Kevin Mapp, the USW's International Vice President of Human Affairs.  Kevin coordinates bargaining in the union's health care, containers, public sector and ship building sectors. The pair discuss the power of international solidarity in four parts. Part 1: Global Solidarity and Corporate Greed Multinational corporations operate globally, oftentimes attempting to pit workers in different countries against each other in a race to the bottom on wages and working conditions. Unionized workers, however, understand that the only answer to large-scale corporate greed is global solidarity.     - The USW works with global labor federations like IndustriALL and UNI so that they can share information about operations in different countries.     - The USW maintains formal strategic alliances with at least six other unions in Australia, Mexico, Germany, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.     - The USW also maintains relationships with unions in a number of other countries as they work to ensure that workers have a place to succeed in the global economy. All of these relationships are premised on the simple truth that workers the world over confront many of the same challenges, and their greatest strength is solidarity. Part 2: Urgency in Liberia and Bridgestone's Operations Nowhere has this been more urgent than in Liberia, where workers on Bridgestone's massive rubber plantation have been struggling for decades to improve their working conditions. Japanese-owned Bridgestone is one of the world's largest tire and rubber manufacturers. It employs more than 125,000 workers worldwide, including approximately 4,000 members of the USW. Unions in Japan, South Africa, Europe, and Brazil also represent Bridgestone workers. In Harbel, Liberia, Bridgestone operates the world's largest contiguous rubber plantation, covering some 185 square miles. It's owned by Bridgestone subsidiary, Firestone Liberia, and approximately 7,000 workers reside there with their families.     - These workers both live and work on the plantation, buying food from the company store and sending their children to schools run by the company.     - The work is difficult, slashing bush, tapping trees, draining latex into metal buckets that weigh 65 pounds each when full, and carrying them long distances to weigh stations.     - This latex then goes straight into the North American supply chain, serving as the starting point for American-made tires. Part 3: Unionization and Challenges at Firestone Liberia In 1990, Terry Renninger, then president of Bridgestone's Liberia operations, said, “The best way to think of it is as an old Southern plantation.” Indeed, in the years leading up to the formation of their union, the Firestone Agricultural Workers Union of Liberia (FAWUL), workers endured what a 2005 human rights lawsuit called “forced labor, the modern equivalent of slavery.” In 2007, workers successfully organized, and since then they've been making incremental progress in improving working conditions on the plantation, though serious problems remain regarding wages, health care, housing, workplace safety, and more. On top of this, in 2019, Bridgestone fired more than 2,000 workers, forcing them instead to work for contractors, doing the same work but earning significantly lower wages without benefits or other protections provided by FAWUL's contract. According to the U.S.-based Solidarity Center:     - One of the big benefits they lost was the education promised to their children, who now must walk long distances through difficult terrain to attend classes in open-air classrooms without desks or other supplies.     - Workers struggle to afford protective glasses, boots, or gloves.     - Living conditions are cramped, and payment for food comes out of workers' paychecks, which can sometimes leave them with zero or negative balances on their pay slips. Part 4: Current Efforts and Hope for the Future Since then, these workers have pushed back, with the support of unions like the USW, as well as the Solidarity Center and others.     - On Aug. 31, 2024, contractors voted overwhelmingly to unionize and are attempting to rejoin FAWUL.     - FAWUL is currently in negotiations with Bridgestone, and one of the key issues is the fate of contractors. The USW has been proud to provide strategic and bargaining support, but the true strength comes from workers themselves who have shown they're willing to take action. The outcome of these negotiations is still not certain, but it's clear that workers – across the world – are strongest when they're united. Kevin Mapp also serves as a trustee on the USW Health and Welfare Fund, is an advisory board member to the Institute for Career Development, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Michigan AFL-CIO Labor Foundation. He is a graduate of the Harvard Trade Union Program and the Cornell National Labor Leadership Initiative.A committed activist, Kevin also serves on the boards of both the metro-Detroit and national A. Philip Randolph Institutes (APRI), where he works to promote social and economic justice, voting rights and community education. Cieľom jej výskumu je prehĺbiť interdisciplinárnu diskusiu o šťastí a kvalite života, najmä o filozoficko pedagogických témach šťastia vo vzťahu k vzdelávaniu a o sociálno-psychologických témach vzťahovej kvality. Po vysokoškolskom štúdiu filozofie pokračovala v doktorandskom štúdiu s interdisciplinárnym zameraním na pedagogiku a filozofiu výchovy. The report also accounted for the destruction of farmlands and lamented that this may lead to high food insecurity in the country. Septemics – Jim Marshall pt 2 http://septemics.com/ ()Everyone wants to “get better” at something. For some it marriage. Other is business. Still others it could – well, “anything.” Amen! We know that, in order to improve in any one area, we have to study. We have to apply what we have learned through study and turn into practical practice, usually on a daily basis. By applying what we learn consistently, we do better ourselves. Many people today will run and purchase “self-help books” of various sorts. Some for dieting and other for business. Some for eating healthier and others for “positive thinking.” But what our guest today is going to share with us, is something all of these things have in common – and a whole lot that is missing. Wouldn't it be great to be able to pick up a book that could guide you to particular area and, basically, say, “do this and this is what will happen” more often than not. Then, you “do this” and – if applied correctly – you obtain the desired result. Now, that was a very simplified example of what Jim Marshall will be sharing with us today from his book, https://amzn.to/3rgl08X (“SEPTEMICS: Hierarchies of Human Phenomena: Analysis, Prediction and Management of Human Affairs.” ) Jim Marshall is a self-taught polymathic scholar who excels in many diverse fields such as science, psychology, philosophy, literature, theology, parapsychology, engineering, political science, mathematics, music, law, history, military science, physical culture and metaphysics! He is the author of this very unique book, https://amzn.to/3rgl08X (“SEPTEMICS: Hierarchies of Human Phenomena: Analysis, Prediction and Management of Human Affairs.” )He has put more than 50,000 hours of study and work has been put into this book.  If I try to explain more at this point, I'm going to mess it up entirely! This is part two of a fascinating two part interview! The first scale you describe in your book is the “Scale of Basic Purposes.” Can you briefly go over that for us to give some insight to what you are talking about? So if someone identifies with a certain pattern or sequence, they can move “up the scale” to improve… is this right? Do the scales intertwine and rely on where you are at on other scales? Could a business person use this book to help increase business relationships or increase sales by identifying where others are on their levels? You wrote the book on https://amzn.to/3rgl08X (“Septemics.”) Is this the only book that discusses this topic? Jim, this is has just been fascinating. I can see how important this is to us today. I've never heard of this before so it is something that I will be studying. Amen. If someone wanted to get a copy of your book, https://amzn.to/3rgl08X (“Septemics,”) who can they do that? Is it on Amazon? And if someone wanted to get in touch with you, to ask a question or maybe do an interview such as this, how can they do that?  How can someone get in touch with you? I'll put links to all of this down in the show notes… Folks, as I stated in the beginning, self-improvement is all about making small, positive changes on a daily basis. If you do this, you will begin to see favorable results. By making positive progress on your short-term goals, you long-term goals start to come to fruition as well. I urge you get your own copy of Jim Marshall's book, https://amzn.to/3rgl08X (“SEPTEMICS: Hierarchies of Human Phenomena: Analysis, Prediction and Management of Human Affairs.” ) If you obtain your copy now and start to study it between now and the end of the year – I believe your “New Year Resolutions” will take on a whole new level of vision and success. Amen! I'm going to get my copy because I have some great plans for 2023 in the growth of what we are doing here in this ministry, as well as personal growth. Amen!  If I'm getting a copy – YOU need to get a copy.  Amen! Just drop down into the show notes and click the link right there....

First question, other than that brief information I just provided, can you tell us in your own words, “Who is Jim Marshall?” What exactly is https://amzn.to/3rgl08X (“Septemics?”) How is this different from the “self-help books” I described in the opening? What makes it different? This system revolves around the number “7.” Why is that important? How did you discover https://amzn.to/3rgl08X (Septemics?) Why did you devote 50,000 hours to this topic? That is a long time! You state that https://amzn.to/3rgl08X (“Septemics”) can be used as a “predictive tool to anticipate outcome and make informed decisions about situations involving other people.”  Does this apply to business decisions as well as individual things? Can everyone benefit from studying https://amzn.to/3rgl08X (“Septemics?”) Let's talk a minute about the scale you have listed as “The Scale of Government.” When you look at things our government has been doing, can you see the predictive pattern through the scale you have in your book on this topic? What if you had the tools or the playbook to accurately analyze, assess, predict and manage the behaviors and characteristics of groups and individuals? Think of what that would mean for you as person? As a leader? Have you ever heard of Septemics? It is a philosophic system based on the fact that many phenomena related to Human Beings occur in a sequence of seven levels - in fact the word Septemic literally means 'of or pertaining to, seven'. Septemics is founded on the belief that the entire spectrum of human experience exists along 35 scales - of which there are seven levels to each scale - pinpointing the exact characteristics of human behavior at those levels. I spoke with the inventor of Septemics - Jim Marshall - who has over 50,000 hours devoted to the study and practice of multiple dimensions of human development. He has extensive experience as a Human Development Engineer. It was one of the most interesting conversations I have ever had. We explore Dr. McKenna's first adventure down to South America to study and explore psychedelics used in the Amazonian medico-religious process. This endeavor would eventually connect him with several elder medicine men who created mixtures for Dennis to study – “We want to learn everything that you know about ayahuasca.” We discuss how the indigenous folks of the Amazon responded to the scientists who sought to investigate their sacramental plant, the rubber boom of the early 20th century, lost aspects of the Amazonian ethnomedical tradition, the hard problem of consciousness, the limitations of reductionism, the value of science, limitations of science, an overview of the journey to La Chorrera, building the temple for “spiritual” experience, or ecstatic/mystical experience, the body as apothecary, theories of consciousness, the molecule and the “trip,” scientific bias of the west, the Default Mode Network, the value of psychedelics to the scientific community, and the McKenna Academy. Bio: Dennis McKenna is an American ethnopharmacologist, research pharmacognosist, lecturer and author. War is assumed to be one of the chief features of human history. Plenty of ancient and modern writers back up this perspective (Plato said that only the dead have seen the end of war; John Steinbeck said all war is a symptom of man's failure as a thinking animal, suggesting it was hard-wired into our brutish nature). But what if the conventional wisdom is wrong? What if war isn't the status quo? This is the argument made by today's guest, who says prolonged violence between groups isn't normal. Wars shouldn't happen, and most of the time they don't. We are joined with Prof. Christopher Blattman, a professor of Global Conflict Studies at the University of Chicago and author of Why We Fight: The Roots of War and the Paths to Peace. He synthesizes decades of social science from politics, economics, and psychology to help people understand the reasons for war and why they are the exception to the normal state of human affairs, not the rule. On top of that, he uses game theory to explain the five reasons why wars happen. Using this schema, we discuss why Russia invaded Ukraine; why it took so long for the US to leave Afghanistan; why he thinks it's unlikely the US will have a civil war; and what to do about the spiking gang violence in big American cities. But what he really focuses on is peace -- what of remedies that shift incentives away from violence and get parties back to dealmaking? He walks us through the places where compromises and tradeoffs have worked, highlighting successful negotiation techniques or exploring often the much-maligned peacekeeping armies actually succeed, even using cognitive behavior therapy on drug lords, with surprising results.

Septemics: Hierarchies of Human Phenomena: Analysis, Prediction and Management of Human Affairs by Jim Marshall Portions of this book are posted on Septemics.com Isaac Asimov, in his famous Foundation trilogy, imagined a future in which a science of the mind could accurately predict human events. This work is a down payment on that promise. It comprises a revolutionary and elaborate system for accurately analyzing, assessing, predicting and managing the behaviors and characteristics of groups and individuals. It is a textbook about a new philosophical science called Septemics, which consists of thirty-five scales, each of which delineates the exact sequence and patterns in which human beings actually behave and manifest in various contexts. Each of these scales describes an axis upon which individuals, and/or groups, advance or decline. This book would generally fit into the literary category of Psychological Philosophy, although there has never been a book quite like this in human history. One must actually read the book in order to access the power of its contents, because it is not like anything else.

The Open Conspiracy by H.G. Wells: Chapter 1 - The Present Crisis in Human Affairs The Open Conspiracy: Blue Prints for a World Revolution was published in 1928 by H. G. Wells, when he was 62 years old. It was revised and expanded in 1930 with the additional subtitle A Second Version of This Faith of a Modern Man Made More Explicit and Plain. In 1931 a further revised edition appeared titled What Are We to Do with Our Lives? A final version appeared in 1933 under its original title. Many of its ideas are anticipated in Wells's 1926 novel The World of William Clissold. The book is, in Wells's words, a "scheme to thrust forward and establish a human control over the destinies of life and liberate it from its present dangers, uncertainties and miseries."[1] It proposes that largely as the result of scientific progress, a common vision of a world "politically, socially and economically unified" is emerging among educated and influential people, and that this can be the basis of "a world revolution aiming at universal peace, welfare and happy activity" that can result in the establishment of a "world commonwealth".[2] This is to be achieved by "drawing together a proportion of all or nearly all the functional classes in contemporary communities in order to weave the beginnings of a world community out of their selection."[3] This will ultimately "be a world religion."[4] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Open_Conspiracy Audio taken from: https://archive.org/details/TheOpenConspiracy

This would allow the value of things like the environment, and community resilience to go up, and centre the conversation around these things the community values, rather than just the economy. Judges 2: 1-15. While Judges may not be the most popular of the Old Testament books, it’s an important one for a number of reasons. One of these is that is shows us that God is the one who ultimately controls history and that there are spiritual and moral patterns that can’t be broken. In this way, Chapter 2, is a preview of the patterns that are to follow in the rest of the book. In this sermon, Martin starts by looking at why Israel compromised on her faith. God had warned the Israelites about the spiritual threat the Canaanites posed, but despite this, they decided not to listen and assimilated with their new neighbours. What seem unthreatening and reasonable at the time ultimately became fatal. This is an important reminder that as Christians, God calls on us to be different – to be separate and distinct from the rest of the world. Secondly, he explores God’s response to Israel’s rebellion in Judges 2 verses 14 – 16, a response that is so “unguessable” that all we can do is fall down in worship.

What is reality? According to whose version of reality does society function? This week, Alex and Calvin sit down to discuss these and other questions with Dr. Dana L. Cloud, Professor of Rhetoric & Communication and Director of Graduate Studies at Syracuse University, and author of Reality Bites: Assessing Truth Claims in the Time of Trump. In her book, Cloud argues that fact-checking and rational argumentation are not effective persuasion strategies, and she suggests other ways of responding to the rise of white nationalism in the Trump era. As a critic, Cloud adopts an approach called rhetorical realism: examining discourse from marginalized groups' perspectives and experiences in order to introduce new realities and truths, legitimize them, and position them strategically in the public sphere. The episode opens with a discussion of academic freedom, as we analyze a timely address given by conservative activist Ben Shapiro at the University of Pittsburgh the night prior to our recording. Shapiro's speech exemplifies how the ideograph of is opportunistically used against university administrators by the far-right. Our conversation then moves to what Cloud calls “the Big 5” rhetorical strategies -- affect/emotion, embodiment, narrative, myth, and spectacle. In using these aspects of discourse, the Left can exhibit fidelity to the experiences of ordinary people and, potentially, build a mass movement for social justice. Finally, Cloud reminds us that while we have all of these ways and more to call audiences to action, we must be aware of the unavoidable ideological and material constraints of contemporary U.S. rhetorical situations.Works and Concepts Cited in this Episode:Brennan, T. In their ongoing series looking at the idea of God as Trinity (Three Persons in One God), pastors Erica and Steve explore what the church has classically meant--and not meant--about Jesus being divine and human.  Is Jesus God's Vice-President of Human Affairs?  An empty human body like an avatar for God to control at a distance?  A half-human, half-divine hybrid like the mythic Greek heroes?  Something else?  Over the centuries, Christians have struggled to find good words to say that God goes "all the way down" into the fullness of humanity, and that God remains a communion of relationships while also taking on the fullness of human experience--hunger, sadness, joy, laughter, loneliness, pain, and even death--in Christ.  What does any of that complicated-sounding theologizing actually mean for anybody?  Join Erica and Steve as they try and make sense out of these big ideas and why the early church was so insistent on finding good words to talk about meeting God in Jesus... and seeing that God has scars.

For all the complicated credal formulations, fierce debates over heresies, and bad object lessons to try an explain the mystery of a God who is One and Three, the Christian doctrine of "the Trinity," is really a way of saying that there is only one God... and that we have come to meet this God, not as some lonely bearded immortal who stands off at a distance, makes a Son and a world to feel loved, and then sends a Heavenly Vice-President of Human Affairs to save us... but that we know God as a beautiful communion of relationships, who goes "all the way down" into human life in Christ, who dwells in us by the Spirit, and who upholds all creation at all times.  The Trinity is a way of saying that God knows BOTH the pain of the cross AND the pain of son-less-ness, and that God is consistent without personality changes over time.  As pastors Erica and Steve take a look at the ancient Christian doctrine of the Trinity, we invite you into a new series of conversations about why the Church has held onto this complicated notion for so long, and why it fought so hard over it in the first place.  If you have ever wondered why on earth Christians take this seemingly contradictory position that God is One and Three at the same time, join in the conversation over these coming episodes!

HUMAN AFFAIRS is a compassionate drama about a young, successful theatre couple in New York City who meet their surrogate mother for the first time, and embark on a startling and intimate weekend of surprises and emotional revelations. Featuring powerful performances from Kerry Condon (Better Call Saul, Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri) and Dominic Fusuma (13 Hours, Focus) and a standout portrayal by young French actress Julie Sokolowski (star of Bruno Dumont's Hadewijch) as Genevieve, the film also features David Harbour (Stranger Things). Writer / director / actor Charlie Birns has crafted a nuanced debut feature drama about embarking on the precarious closeness of surrogacy while bravely searching for human connection.  Featuring exquisite cinematography by Sean Price Williams, (Good Time and Heaven Knows What with the Safdie Brothers, Listen Up Philip and Queen of Earth with Alex Ross Perry), the film experiments with new modes of cinematic storytelling, employing raw performance, unexpected sound design, editing, narration and the use of still photography to dazzling effect. Director Charlie Burns joins us for a conversation on the challenges and rewards of directing his first feature film and the film’s debut at the 2018 Slamdance Film Festival. http://human-affairs.com/ A clip from Human Affairs: vimeo.com/250217517

Michael E. Zimmerman (PhD, Tulane, 1974) is Professor of Philosophy and former Director of the Center for Humanities and the Arts at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Since his undergraduate years, Michael has been concerned about anthropogenic environmental problems. His research examines the metaphysical, cultural, ethical, cognitive, political, and religious dimensions of such problems. Like many others in the field of environmental studies, Michael maintains that a multi-disciplinary approach is needed both to comprehend and to propose effective solutions for environmental problems. Natural science is crucial for characterizing, making predictions about, and providing alternative scenarios regarding existing and emerging environmental problems. Anthropogenic environmental problems, however, arise from human activities that are usually best studied by researchers from the social sciences, humanities, and the arts. Although criticizing the command-and-control attitude toward nature that has characterized modernity, Michael has also warned of the dangers posed by the anti-modernist attitudes that characterize some versions of environmentalism. Michael asks: How to retain what is noble about modernity, including the freedoms connected with politics, research, and religion, while correcting its shortcomings, including serious environmental problems? In what has been called “post-normal” science, researchers must not only deal with problems characterized by complexity and thus uncertainty, but must also integrate multiple perspectives, many of which operate at different scales, with different assumptions, and in light of different value concerns. Environmental policy formation will become increasingly effective as it develops the conceptual models needed to identify crucial methods and perspectives and to show their relationships to one another, as well as to specific problems. This lecture is supported by the project, "The Transhumanist Imagination: Innovation, Secularization and Eschatology," led by Profs. Hava Tirosh-Samuelson and Ben Hurlbut, and funded by a grant from The Historical Society's program in Religion and Innovation in Human Affairs sponsored by the John Templeton Foundation.

Kinship plays a fundamental role in our daily affairs, as it does in the affairs of many other critters. Yet, there is an embarrassing dearth of psychological research into the effects of kinship on human behaviour and decision-making. Drawing from work on other organisms (animals, plants, amoebae, and bacteria), I will explain why kinship is special, how we come to recognize our kin—including those we have never met before—and how its effects extend far beyond common notions of "the family." Finally, I will show how a better understanding of kin recognition can help us to understand problems as diverse and significant as mate choice, suicide terrorism, and racism.
