Londoners — and besties — Maisey Redman and Emily Beaney join Sadie for a real talk about calling, purpose, ministry, finding home in new places, and what it actually looks like to say yes to what God's telling you to do. They also share why they're both fired up about revival happening in the UK. Maisey just moved back to London and opens up about the powerful moment she knew God had seen her and heard her prayers — it was His way of saying, you're exactly where you're meant to be. Emily shares how she first stepped into the influencer world and how she's turned her platform into a ministry that points everything back to Jesus. The two also get honest about not being the “cool girls” growing up, why that's ended up being one of the best things for their faith, and how they've learned to walk closely with God—even when life feels a little lonely. The espionage TV series, Homeland, brought David Harewood international fame but he is also known as the first Black actor to play Othello at the UK's National Theatre when he was in his early 30s. Now, aged almost 60, he is reprising the role of the Moor in Shakespeare's tragedy. The character of Othello is a skillful General, and the only person of colour in the Venetian army. He and Desdemona, the daughter of a rich and prominent citizen, fall in love and marry, against her father's wishes. This autumn's production at the Haymarket Theatre in London's West End is directed by Tom Morris, who co-created War Horse, which has been seen by more than eight million people around the world. Caitlin Fitzgerald stars as Desdemona and Toby Jones as Iago, with music by P J Harvey. Julian May follows David Harewood, Tom Morris and the cast from the beginning of rehearsal to the opening night as they work together to bring to light the dark themes of power, rage and desire in Shakespeare's great play of duplicity, jealousy and deadly masculinity.

This week is our big Halloween episode to finish off monster month! I hope your October has been amazing and you have fun plans for Halloween. William suggested we learn about the Loch Ness Monster, so let's go! We talked about the Loch Ness Monster, AKA Nessie, a really long time ago, back in episode 29. Those old episodes aren't even available in the feed anymore—you have to go to the website to find them, and the audio isn't very good. So here's a revised and updated Nessie episode! There are some spooky stories associated with this one, but not too scary. Let's call it one and a half out of five monsters on the spooky scale. First, a little background about what Loch Ness is. It's the biggest of a chain of long, narrow, steep-sided lakes and shallow rivers that cut the Scottish Highlands right in two along a fault line. Loch Ness is 22 miles long, or 35 km, with a maximum depth of 754 feet, or 230 meters, the biggest lake in all of the UK, not just Scotland. During the Pleistocene, or ice age, Scotland was repeatedly covered with glaciers and ice sheets that were almost a kilometer thick. The ice only completely melted about 8,000 years ago. The massive weight of the glaciers over the fault line, where the rocks are already weaker, started the process of carving out the lake, and when the ice started melting in earnest around 10,000 years ago, the massive amounts of meltwater washed the weakened rocks out and left the deep valley that is now Loch Ness. The land slowly rose from where the ice had pressed it down, so that Loch Ness is now about 50 feet above sea level, or 15 meters. In other words, Loch Ness is only about 10,000 years old. All the lochs and their rivers have made up a busy shipping channel since the Caledonian Canal made them more navigable with a series of locks and canals in 1822, but the area around Loch Ness was well populated and busy for centuries before that. It's a beautiful area, so Loch Ness has also long been a popular tourist destination, well before the Nessie sightings started. There have been stories of strange creatures in Loch Ness and all the lochs, but nothing that resembles the popular idea of Nessie. The stories were mostly of water monsters of Scottish folklore, like the kelpie we talked about in episode 351, or of out-of-place known animals like a bottle-nosed dolphin that was captured at sea and released in the loch as a prank in 1868. The oldest monster report in the area actually comes from the 7th century, but it's supposed to have happened in the River Ness, which drains from the lake. When local people told St. Columba about a monster that had grabbed a man swimming in the River Ness, and presumably ate him, the saint went there to take care of the monster. He told one of his followers to swim across the river, which sounds pretty rough, but the saint said, “Don't worry, fam, I gotchu,” but in old-timey language. The man started swimming and sure enough, a water beast approached. The saint made the sign of the Christian cross and said, “Stop right there, don't touch him. Get back, monster!” The monster swam away immediately and was never seen again. The next sighting important enough for people to write down happened more than 1,400 years later,

Following on from last week's show on the history of Musk, Karen is here to tell you all about the synthetic musks. First developed by accident in the 1930s, synthetic musks have evolved through many different variations, each one advancing from what has come before. In this episode, Karen gives you a full and comprehensive overview of the history of synthetic musk, how they changed the perfume industry, and the musks that you should have in your toolbox. KEY TAKEAWAYS Nitro Musks were the first synthetic musks, discovered in the late 1880s by accident. Karen gives you the history of this fascinating discovery and how it changed perfume-making. In the 1930s, macrocyclic musks were developed as a safer and more elegant alternative to nitro musks. Karen details their history, the perfumes that pioneered them, and the impact they had. Polycyclic musks were developed in the 1950s with the intention of being lower-cost and more commercial. Karen explains how they brought musk into the mainstream, including the Body Shop's ‘White Musk'. Due to biodegradability issues of polycyclic musk, alicyclic musks were developed in the 1970s. Karen explains why they were created and how they burst into popularity in the 1990s. BEST MOMENTS “Musks are often more of a feeling than they are a specific smell.” “Musks change when they interact with other materials, so don't just smell them on a strip, use them.” “If you've ever smelt laundry and thought ‘that smells clean', that's a polycyclic musk.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Materials Mastery Studio Classes Getting Started Guide Artisan Perfumery Mastermind ABOUT THE HOST Fragrance expert, author, teacher and speaker; Karen Gilbert runs courses in the UK and online which demystify the secretive world of perfumery in a fun and interactive way. It began, however, as an incredible idea for a film - “The Sixth Sense” – and the reason the meme is so prevalent today, is because the film blew our minds with the unexpected twist ending forcing us to watch the film again. But what if your child were to truly tell you they were seeing dead people. Not imaginary friends, and not even the occasional monster in the closet… but actually seeing dead people. One woman in the UK is pondering that question with not one, but two children who are adamant they are seeing those who have already passed on. (My Children See Dead People) *** Steven Stayner was only seven years old when he was kidnapped and held for over seven years, being sexually molested by the man who grabbed him. But when another boy was brought in as the man's next victim, Steven turned from victim, to rescuer. (I Know My First Name is Steven) *** Stories of people in the past looking to the skies to see UFOs are becoming more and more common as we learn more of our history. But there was some very strange goings on in 1896 and 1897 with some flying contraptions, weird looking people, bizarre languages, and even a close encounter of the third kind. (America's Mystery Airships of 1896-97) *** From UFOs in 1896-97… to UFOs in 1966-67. But this time we add another element. Not only did a young man see a UFO, but the encounter appears to have taken him outside of time – and even changed his personality in the process! (Missing Time in 1966) *** In Blake Edward's 1965 classic comedy film, ‘The Great Race', the heroic Leslie and the despicable Professor Fate, engage in an epic automobile race from New York to Paris in the early 1900s. The film is actually based on a real race that took place in 1908 – and as hilarious as the ‘The Great Race' movie was, the actual race took stupidity to a whole new level. (The Great Race to Stupidity) *** As far as we know, it was the very first sighting of what we've come to know as The Mothman – and it was seen not by a single person or even a single couple – but by four people. Actually, “sighting” probably isn't the right word for it… as it ended up in a high-speed chase between the four people in one car, and Mothman giving chase. The UK's Metropolitan Police Service (Met) is now “actively looking” into fresh allegations that Prince Andrew allegedly used a taxpayer-funded police bodyguard to obtain the U.S. Social Security number and date of birth of his accuser, Virginia Giuffre — apparently to dig up “dirt” on her. These new allegations arise from leaked emails and Giuffre's recently published posthumous memoir, and they have reignited calls for a full criminal inquiry in the UK after previous investigations by the Met opted not to open one. Sources suggest that if evidence is found that the royal improperly sought to direct or influence police resources, then the offence of misconduct in public office could be in play.Meanwhile, in the United States and in political circles, pressure is building for action — though no formal prosecution has yet been confirmed. U.S. lawmakers such as Nancy Mace have publicly demanded that any potential crimes by Prince Andrew on U.S. soil be pursued, and parliamentarians in the UK are calling for a mechanism to strip him of titles and privileges as accountability ramps up. The combination of renewed documentary claims, political uproar, and active investigation means that this may no longer be purely a reputational or civil matter — the threshold for possible criminal exposure appears to be closer than at any time in recent years.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Could Prince Andrew ever be prosecuted over his links to Jeffrey Epstein? | The Independent

This month we hear from an industrial designer who has created a ‘farm tool ecosystem', next up is a farmer with a fresh approach to farming on peatland and finally we tune into a Pitch Up competition winner who has started their egg business at a multi-enterprise farm in Hampshire. Plus, a reminder for any Cereal fans out there about how to get involved with a new project six years on from the original series. ---- We start with CropKit – a modular open-source customisable farm tool ecosystem tailored for small farms and recently shortlisted for the Dyson Award. Its inventor, David Soche, tells us how it works and why he's committed to keeping farmers in control by ensuring they can repair and adapt the tool themselves. This was all part of his Industrial Design Masters, you can read much more about the tool ecosystem and his research here. Next, we speak to Cameron Edwards at Goose Meadow Farm in Lancashire about his decision to start growing bulrushes, in collaboration with the Lancashire Wildlife Trust. The farm sits on lowland peatland that had previously been drained and is now being re-wetted. Cameron is working with PONDA, a clothing company who use bulrushes to make insulation in their coats and jackets. When they've processed the bullrush fibres, they give the leftover seeds back to farmers to plant more of the crop. We end with an insight into one of the Pitch Up! Program winners, Rodrigo Navarro. He and his wife Kirsten have been running their chicken business, Wandering Feathers, for just six months. The Pitch Up! scheme at Kingsclere Estates paved the way for him to break into the unfamiliar world of rural life. Pitch Up! is a farmer-led movement connecting businesses with forward-thinking farms to spark new ideas and enterprises. A number of farms across the UK are involved so you can head to the website and see where you might want to pitch your land based business idea with the application season running the month of November. Did you listen to our series Cereal? We want to hear from you! We're collecting voices and stories from the movement, to feature in a show about Cereal 6 years on. Send us a voicenote on our Farmerama Radio whatsapp, letting us know who you are, how you came across the series, and whether it sparked any change or action, big or small. If you don't want your voice shared on the episode, that's fine, we'd still love to hear your thoughts, just let us know you don't want it shared. We want to understand the collective impact of the series and celebrate the work of those continuing to build the new grains movement. We are also interested to understand the impact that storytelling can have within the regenerative farming world. The Whatsapp account will be live from the 1 Nov, you can just search Farmerama Radio on Whatsapp and then send us an audio note up to 5 minutes long.

Former England ruby captain Lewis Moody recently revealed he had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), and our conversations give an insight into how lives can be overturned by this muscle wasting condition. Dr Mehboob in Canada was diagnosed five years ago and is now paralysed from the neck down. He is joined in conversation by his wife, Sophie, and Evy in Belgium, whose dad died last year 46 years after his diagnosis. MND is incurable. Over time, muscles weaken, affecting movement, speech eating and breathing. People over 50 are most likely to get the disease but there is evidence that elite athletes are also disproportionately affected. We bring together Narayana in India with James and Gillian in the UK, who were all diagnosed in their 30s, to share their experiences of living with the condition.

By 1985, Simple Minds were coming off a #1 album in the UK with Sparkle in the Rain and sales from all around the world. But it only went to #64 in the US and they needed something to spark greater interest across the pond. When Don't You Forget About Me from The Breakfast Club Soundtrack hit #1 in May 1985, a song they originally resisted, they had that spark and built on that success with memorable performance at Live Aid in Philadelphia. Their next album would need to be special to keep the momentum building. New York producer Jimmy Iovine (Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty) came to London to work with the boys as they welcomed in new bass player John Giblin. He encourage Jim to emote more - to really sing his heart out - in the studio and his soul is captured on Once Upon A Time. Jim's lyrics are optimistic about the future - the native Glaswegians know where they come from (Oh Jungleland) and can be proud of what they've accomplished (Come a Long Way). Alive and Kicking would be the first single to follow up #1 smash Don't You Forget About Me and soared up the charts, thanks in part to a music video shot in the Pocono Mountains - former Simple Minds drummer Mel Gaynor enlightens us with a funny story from that video shoot! They can get political without getting preachy (Ghostdancing) while bringing you to your feet with glorious salvation (Sanctify Yourself). Released October 21, 1985, Once Upon A Time would be the 2nd consecutive #1 in the UK and the 1st gold record for the band in the US. But what if they put Don't You Forget About Me on it? It was already a #1 and hadn't been on a Simple Minds album. The Wolf believes it would have resulted in millions of more sales and fans for the band in the US but that's a debate you'll have to hear! Episode 64 – Take Care, Caretaker ‘I took a huge breath and walked through the door. I found nothing … no one. A very cold and dark feeling swept over me. I grabbed my bag, went back into the hall, closed the window at the back of the stage, switched the lights off, made sure the kitchen lights were off, and got outside. It was still daylight, and the mood was so much lighter, but I had no idea what I'd just experienced in that community hall.'This is episode 64 of the Haunted UK Podcast, and in this episode, we'll be taken to a haunted … community centre – but isn't this kind of haunted place so much worse than castles, manor homes and remote deserted cabins in woods? – because it's a place most of us know, a place which is typical in so many towns in the UK … a place we've been to for parties, weigh-ins, jumble sales. You know it well: a place where chairs are stacked to the side for events, with a small stage and musty curtains; a kitchen with a tea urn and serving hatch. Pantomimes at Christmas, committee meetings on Tuesdays. All very tame, all very everyday. But this story is not everyday … and it's not tame.Get yourselves ready as we unlock the secrets of this not-so-everyday community centre and warn, ‘Take Care, Caretaker' …Do you have an interesting story which you'd be willing to share with the show? With 23 Group 1 wins already, and with strong chances in six Grade 1 races at Del Mar and Hong Kong still to come, could 2025 be Aidan O'Brien's greatest ever season?
