Jo is a psychologist and psychotherapist who specializes in mental health and well-being. She shares her journey with intermittent fasting, which began in earnest about a year ago after listening to Gin's appearance on the Zoe podcast. Before that, she had experimented with 5:2 fasting for several years but found it ineffective and also difficult due to not practicing the clean fast. Every year the UK produces around 50 million tyres for disposal. They are supposed to be sent for recycling. Instead, big money is being made by diverting tyres to illegal and dangerous 'pyrolysis' plants where they are melted down to extract oil and steel. Together with a team of journalists from Source Material, a not-for-profit group specialising in climate and corruption, we follow the tyres from the UK to India using tracking devices. The team discovers just how large scale this largely illicit business has become. Earlier this year, a makeshift pyrolysis plant exploded near Mumbai, killing four people. It had been processing tyres from abroad. Reporter Paul Kenyon confronts a tyre trader in the north of England who admits to shipping his waste tyres to India for pyrolysis.

Boeing Co. 787 aircraft traveling from Ahmedabad in India to London’s Gatwick airport crashed shortly after taking off, in what stands to be the most serious accident involving the US planemaker’s most advanced widebody airliner. The airline said that Flight AI171 was “involved in an incident” and that Air India is “ascertaining the details.” Footage shared on social media showed a giant plume of smoke engulfing the crash site, with no reports of fatalities or survivors. The flight was carrying 242 passengers and crew, according to news agency ANI. 2) Los Angeles spends another night under curfew as protests spread to more cities. Protests over immigration raids in Los Angeles have spread to other US cities, including New York, Chicago, and Milwaukee, with clashes between protesters and law enforcement. The federal government has expanded its show of force, deploying National Guard troops and authorizing the use of the Hobbs Act to take over criminal cases, which California officials have criticized as "unlawful, unconstitutional and undemocratic". 3) President Trump says he will set unilateral tariffs on countries in 2 weeks. The president plans to send letters to trading partners in the next one to two weeks setting unilateral tariff rates ahead of a July 9 deadline. In early December 2022, German authorities carried out a sting operation on the neo-Nazi Reichsburger group that was plotting to overthrow the country's government through a coup. That would be something Nicole would come to learn firsthand just a few short years later, as she found herself navigating mysterious joint pain, hot spells, and concerning bone loss. This week Nicole talks candidly about how she preserved performance during the transition, why she now champions DEXA scans for midlife athletes, and the role of plyometrics in protecting bone health. She also discusses the importance of being proactive—not reactive—when it comes to training, recovery, and maintaining power, and her personal mission to crack 1000 watts. Nicole Oh is a physiotherapist from Sydney who specializes in the management of cyclists and triathletes. "I'm ready to bring back gatekeeping." The New Yorker staff writer discusses how to protect the underground, experimenting with drugs and her new book, Health and Safety. Can drugs help us find meaning in music and nightlife? This is a question that today's Exchange guest, New Yorker staff writer Emily Witt, asks in earnest in her new book Health and Safety: A Breakdown. Just released in hardcover in the UK and Europe, the memoir traces Witt's life in her early-to-mid 30s. A journalist living and working in Brooklyn, she began experimenting with psychedelics and club drugs after years of living what she describes as a conservative, straight-and-narrow, middle-class life. She became enamoured with the borough's underground raves, frequenting events like the festival Sustain-Release, the party Unter and sets at Bushwick haunt Bossa Nova Civic Club, all while falling in love with an aspiring DJ and producer she calls Andrew. As the book progresses, Witt documents the growing MAGA movement in America, gun rights rallies and mass shootings. As the country falls apart, she watches her romantic relationship fall apart, too. Drugs and Brooklyn nightlife, she writes, became both an escape and a way to rearrange a world that she starts to feel no longer makes sense. Witt shares critical opinions about the underground scene's capacity to be a utopia and place of belonging in an increasingly hostile world, arguing that there should be more gatekeeping in place to protect a scene that's threatened by capitalism and the mainstream. She also interrogates what she calls "woke identity politics" in Brooklyn, the lack of change that came from the Black Lives Matter movement, empty calls for political protest that dominated the early days of the pandemic and why, despite everything, she's chosen to stay in Brooklyn for good.
