Money matters in politics. Why was John Cornyn pushing for gun control? The swampy GOP senate is trying to punish the voter for dare rejecting one of their own. The mass deportation of foreigners will improve nearly every aspect of your life and the Trump administration needs to message that. The Red-Green Alliance only has one thing in common, an enemy. It's the final day of August, Moon is somewhere in parts unknown, Lern is back, and The Rizzuto Show has officially entered BABY WATCH. The baby is now past the due date, predictions are flying around the studio, and Rizz is keeping his ringer on because that phone call could come at any moment. Naturally, while waiting for the miracle of life, the crew spends a significant amount of time celebrating another miracle: Rafe Williams finally has legal license plates.Yes, Rafe went to the DMV. Voluntarily. Sort of.What should have been a routine trip to get his truck squared away became a full-blown battle with Missouri bureaucracy. There's a packed Creve Coeur DMV, a confusing sign-in system, expired temp tags, paperwork, an emissions-test surprise and a ticking clock. At one point Rafe has until 4:30 to get an emissions test completed or face the horrifying possibility of coming back Monday and waiting all over again. That's when a listener at the auto shop recognizes him, gets the Tacoma squeezed in, and sends our hero racing back to the DMV with paperwork held high like he just returned from the Crusades. By the end, Rafe is trying to get the entire waiting room to cheer for the woman who helped him. This is the kind of inspirational story your favorite comedy podcast provides because apparently our standards for heroism have become “successfully registering a motor vehicle.”The DMV adventure also sends the crew into everything from old people trying to navigate touchscreen kiosks to modern cars putting every basic function behind another touchscreen. We have reached the future, and the future apparently requires three menus just to turn down the air conditioning. Then Lern returns from Colorado with stories involving the Grizzly Rose, mechanical bulls, mountain towns, wineries, peaches, e-bikes and some legitimately terrifying drives through the Rockies. Her relaxing family getaway somehow includes bull riding and flying around mountain roads, because nobody associated with this show is capable of having a normal vacation.Rizz has his own driving adventure after the intro to “Money for Nothing” hits at exactly the wrong—or right—time and suddenly he's doing 80 with a police officer behind him. Is getting completely lost in a song a valid speeding defense? Legally, probably don't take our advice. Spiritually? Absolutely. The weekend recaps keep rolling as Rizz gets his first full Friday Night Lights experience watching his daughter cheer at Lafayette, then attends a 40th birthday party extravagant enough to make everyone reconsider their current tax bracket. Meanwhile, Rafe survives Jamie Rivers' bachelor party, gets his first real taste of the Cafe Napoli scene and discovers that former professional hockey players apparently possess a completely different transmission when it comes to staying out late. And because this comedy podcast refuses to remain anywhere near the rails for long, the conversation keeps finding new and increasingly questionable destinations—including St. Louis weird news and the kind of stories that make you reconsider ever accepting a job that requires entering a stranger's home.Baby watch. DMV purgatory. Colorado adventures. Friday night football. St. Louis nightlife. Questionable driving decisions. And Rafe becoming a legally compliant Missouri resident against all odds.Just another Monday with The Rizzuto Show.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

If you've been following the financial news lately, you may have noticed something unusual: the bond market is getting a lot of attention. After a year of tariff shocks, interest-rate whiplash, tax policy changes and persistent questions about inflation and the national debt, bonds have moved from the financial pages into the broader economic conversation. And whenever markets get nervous about where the economy, inflation or government borrowing may be headed, attention tends to turn pretty quickly to the bond market.Because this isn't just Wall Street inside baseball. The bond market influences the interest rate on your mortgage. It influences how much the federal government pays to borrow money. It affects companies trying to finance everything from infrastructure to AI data centers. And it can offer some important clues about how investors are feeling about inflation, growth, recession risk and even the creditworthiness of the United States. So perhaps it's time we understood bonds a little better. And I have to admit, after more than a decade of hosting So Money, I don't think we've ever dedicated an entire episode to them.Today, we are fixing that.My guest is Robin Wigglesworth, one of the financial journalists who has been covering these markets up close for years. Robin is an editor at the Financial Times, where he leads FT Alphaville, its influential markets and finance blog. He's also the author of Trillions, his acclaimed history of the index-fund revolution and the rise of passive investing and ETFs.His new book is called A Fabulous Debt: The Epic Story of How Bonds Built the Modern World, and it comes out September 22.And I should emphasize: this is not a book about how to build a bond portfolio.Robin has written essentially a people's history of the bond market — and somehow made bonds genuinely entertaining. The story begins in Venice in 1171, takes us through Amsterdam and the development of modern finance, and brings us to America and Alexander Hamilton, whose decisions about government debt helped establish the creditworthiness of the young United States.Robin's larger argument is that we tend to think the stock market is the star of the financial system, when really the bond market is the foundation underneath it. In fact, as he tells me in our conversation, bonds are the “bedrock that the entire house rests upon.”We talk about what the 10-year Treasury yield can tell you about the economy — and why it matters more to mortgage rates than many people realize. We talk about America's nearly $40 trillion national debt and the big question: At what point does all of this borrowing actually become a problem? We also get into something I found fascinating: bonds have quietly financed some of the biggest transformations in modern history. Railroads. Canals. Telecommunications. The internet. And now, potentially, the enormous buildout of artificial intelligence. There are also fraudsters, scoundrels and some truly wild financial schemes along the way — including one man who essentially invented an entire country so he could sell its bondsLearn more about Farnoosh's upcoming literary workshop Book to Brand. Companies have gotten frighteningly good at removing friction from spending. One click, stored payment info, a box on your porch before you've even had time to regret the purchase. Today's episode flips that same idea around: what if you engineered your own financial life the same way, making good decisions the path of least resistance and bad decisions just annoying enough to make you pause? Joe and OG close out Financial Action Month with a genuinely useful framework for building systems that work even on the days your willpower doesn't show up.What You'll Walk Away WithWhy discipline isn't a personality trait, it's a system you build once instead of a decision you make every dayA simple "make it easy or make it hard" test you can apply to any financial habit, from retirement savings to late-night online shoppingWhy automating your savings rate removes the single biggest source of decision fatigue in a financial planA smarter way to handle windfalls and bonuses, deciding your split between saving, debt, and fun once a year instead of every single timeWhy canceling a subscription is deliberately made difficult, and the workaround that neutralizes itA four-step "financial action ladder" for turning financial knowledge into permanent, lasting habitsWhy waiting a day before a big purchase, and other small friction points, can save you from regret without requiring any extra willpowerWhy This Matters NowKnowing what to do with your money has never really been the hard part. The hard part is doing it consistently, especially when life gets busy, stressful, or just plain boring. Building your environment so the smart choice is also the easy choice takes the daily grind of willpower out of the equation entirely. That's not a lack of discipline, it's actually the most disciplined move available: deciding once, automating it, and letting the system do the work every day after that. From the BasementA goofy but genuinely fun "make it easy or make it hard" game plays out across everything from emergency funds to concert tickets, and a National Trail Mix Day detour delivers exactly the kind of nonsense only this show could make delightful.Resources MentionedStacko Financial Action Month board — the interactive game with a money move for each squareStacking Benjamins Field Kit — the all-in-one financial organization and subscription-canceling toolProfit First by Mike Michalowicz — the book referenced on flipping the save-then-spend defaultSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Daily Boost Podcast Ambition vs Peace of Mind August 31, 2026 | Episode 5531 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description You set the goal. You hit the goal. And then you stand there, wondering why it doesn't feel the way you thought it would. I've watched that happen hundreds of times, and I finally figured out what's missing. It isn't ambition. It's the ground you're standing on when you launch. Today I'm walking you through what I call a peaceful base — the six areas that have to be solid before anything big you build will hold. Time. Body. Mind. Money. Relationships. Meaning. Go big. Just don't launch off a hot mess. Let's get your foundation right. Featured Story I brought this whole idea up with my wife over breakfast, and she asked me to explain it in a way she could actually feel. So I pointed at her laptop. Every single morning, before she eats, she flips it open and balances our books. House and business, both. She looks at the numbers, sees that we're fine, closes the laptop, and her whole day settles. I would never do that. It would drive me crazy. I don't touch it. But watching her that morning, something clicked for me. That laptop isn't bookkeeping. That's her ground. That's the thing she stands on before she does anything else. And most people don't have one. Important Points Your schedule serves you, or it serves everyone else. Control your time first, because it controls everything after. A peaceful base isn't a retirement plan. It's the active ground you build on so your big goals actually hold up. Six areas hold you up: time, body, mind, money, relationships, and meaning. Weak in one and the whole thing wobbles. Memorable Quotes We set the goal, we reach the goal, we accomplish the goal, and yet we don't get what we really, really wanted. You can't have a cool life on a hot mess. If you want to launch something big, you better have a solid foundation. If you don't control your time, you control nothing. And you can control your time. I know it's hard. Scott's Three-Step Approach Pick the one area of your base that feels shakiest right now — time, body, mind, money, relationships, or meaning. Fix that one with a small daily habit you'll actually stick to, like my wife balancing the books every single morning. Only then launch your big goal from that solid ground, and keep the base strong while you chase whatever you want. Chapters 0:14 - Why reaching the goal still leaves you empty 2:23 - The day I realized I only wanted peace of mind 2:46 - What a peaceful base is and why it holds you up 4:23 - Rocket launch pads and the size of your dreams 5:22 - My wife's ritual and taking back your time 9:35 - Money, relationships, and what anchors it all 11:53 - Start small today and let it compound for decades Connect With Me Search for the Daily Boost on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify Email: support@motivationtomove.com Main Website: https://motivationtomove.com YouTube: https://youtube.com/dailyboostpodcast Instagram: https://instagram.com/heyscottsmith Facebook Page: https://facebook.com/motivationtomove Facebook Group: https://dailyboostpodcast.com/facebook Learn more about your ad choices. You don't need a bad man to destroy a republic. You need a competent one with a practical problem and a solution that works a little too well.Gaius Marius should never have mattered. He was a nobody from a hill town southeast of Rome. He clawed his way into the Senate through military competence because his family had no name and no network. And then he faced a genuine crisis — Rome literally could not fill its legions. He fixed it. He removed the property qualification that had kept the landless poor out of military service, saved Rome from Jugurtha in North Africa, and then saved Rome again from the Germanic tribes that nearly annihilated it in 105 BC.He did what nobody else could do. And the same reform that saved Rome killed the Republic 60 years later. This is the mechanism. Not the myth. The specific chain of cause and effect that turned a manpower reform into personal military armies loyal to individual generals rather than to the state — the mechanism Sulla would use in 88 BC to march on Rome, and Caesar would use in 49 BC to finish the Republic. This is Episode 119 of The Fall of the Republic series on The Roman Pattern.Chapters:00:00 How republics actually die01:36 Where we are in the series02:28 Marius: the new man from Arpinum04:34 Rome's manpower crisis — the property qualification problem06:35 The Jugurtha War — "a city for sale"08:07 107 BC — Marius opens the ranks11:05 Aquae Sextiae and Vercellae — Rome saved from annihilation15:07 The mechanism — how soldier loyalty shifted from Rome to the general17:46 Saturninus and the first veteran land grants (103, 100 BC)18:33 Breaking the Lex Genucia — five consecutive consulships21:11 Sulla learns the trick22:17 88 BC — Sulla marches on Rome24:18 Marius flees — two ruins looking at each other25:06 Return, purges, and 17 days26:29 Money, Borders, Power — the three fault lines28:17 The pattern — load-bearing constraints30:36 Next week: SullaSources referenced in this episode:— Sallust, Bellum Jugurthinum— Plutarch, Life of Marius— Appian, The Civil Wars, Book 1— Livy, Periochae 65-80— Orosius, Histories Against the Pagans— Mary Beard, SPQR— Ronald Syme, The Roman Revolution (1939)— H.H. When we think about wealth, it's easy to focus on the numbers. A savings goal. A net worth milestone. A retirement account balance. A debt payoff target. Those things absolutely matter. But lately, I've been thinking about something bigger. What is all of this for? Because the more I've reflected on the next chapter of my life, the more I've realized that the wealth I'm building has very little to do with impressing other people, and everything to do with creating a life that feels meaningful to me. A life filled with travel. Meaningful experiences. Time freedom. Purposeful work. Rental properties in places I genuinely love. And hopefully, a legacy that extends beyond me. In this episode, I'm sharing the vision I'm working toward, why I believe it's important to dream beyond financial milestones, and how having a clear vision for your future can make today's financial decisions feel much more meaningful. Because your money isn't just helping you reach goals. It's helping you build a life.   In this episode, we discuss: Why financial goals should support a bigger life vision How travel changed the way I define wealth and success Why experiences continue to shape my financial priorities My long-term vision for building a rental property portfolio The dream of owning homes in places that bring us joy Why multiple income streams fit into my long-term financial plan How financial freedom creates more options, not just more money Why you don't need every answer before you start pursuing a dream The importance of building wealth that aligns with your values How creating a clear vision makes everyday financial decisions easier   This episode is especially helpful if you: Have financial goals but haven't thought about the life they're supporting Want to build wealth with more intention and purpose Dream about traveling more or creating additional income streams Feel ready to think beyond budgeting and into long-term lifestyle design Want your money to reflect your personal values instead of someone else's expectations Need encouragement to dream bigger about your future   Why this matters: Financial goals are important, but they're only part of the picture. The numbers themselves aren't the destination. They're the vehicle that helps you create more freedom, more flexibility, and more opportunities to spend your time in ways that matter to you. When you have a clear vision for the life you're building, your financial decisions become more intentional because they have a purpose behind them. Saving becomes easier because you know what you're saving for. Investing becomes more meaningful because you're investing in the future you want to create. And budgeting becomes less about restriction and more about making sure your money reflects what matters most. Because wealth isn't just measured by what you own. It's also measured by the life you're able to create because of it.   Timestamps: [02:35] Over the last few years, Raya has spent a lot of time thinking about what she's working so hard for. What's her bigger picture? [04:17] Building a portfolio of rental properties is a dream for Raya and her fiancé. She already has experience with this, but plans to take it to the next level. [08:32] Having time freedom, location freedom, and options is what drives Raya to build wealth for her life. [11:16] Raya shares how her dad would hype her up and her mom would allow her to stay hyped up. They shaped Raya's belief system.   Resources Mentioned: Request a free money call with Raya City Girl Savings Personal Finance Portfolio Financial Focus Coaching Program If there's one thing I hope you take away from this episode, it's this: Don't just build financial goals. Build a vision. Give yourself permission to think beyond your next savings milestone or debt payoff target and ask yourself what kind of life you're actually working toward. What experiences do you want to have? Where do you want to spend your time? Who do you want to share your life with? Because once you have a vision that's rooted in your values, your financial decisions begin to feel more connected and intentional. You don't need every detail figured out before you begin. You don't need the entire roadmap. You simply need a direction that's meaningful enough to keep taking the next step. Money isn't just meant to be managed well…it's meant to support a life you're excited to live. You are not behind, you are building. Consistency compounds. The steady work you're doing now is shaping your next level.

Women Stewarding Wealth: A Historic Opportunity with Sharon Epps

An estimated $124 trillion is expected to pass from Baby Boomers to their heirs by 2048, marking one of the largest transfers of wealth in history. And women are expected to play a particularly significant role. Sharon Epps, President of Kingdom Advisors, joined the show today to discuss this historic shift and the opportunity it presents for women to approach wealth with wisdom, preparation, and biblical faithfulness. Why Women Are at the Center of the Wealth Transfer Economists have been talking about the Great Wealth Transfer for years, but it is no longer simply a future prediction. The transfer is already underway. Women are uniquely positioned within it in part because they tend to live longer than men. As a result, many women will experience both intragenerational transfers—wealth passing from a spouse—and intergenerational transfers from parents and other family members. But inheritance is only one part of the picture. Women already earn income, manage household resources, invest, give, and make significant financial decisions. Research indicates that women are involved in approximately 94% of household purchasing decisions. That means the stewardship opportunity ahead doesn't begin when an inheritance arrives. It is already here. A Biblical Legacy of Women and Stewardship Women using financial resources to advance God's purposes is nothing new. Luke 8:1–3 describes several women who supported Jesus and His disciples out of their own means. These women were not merely observers of Christ's ministry. Their financial generosity helped make the work possible. Likewise, in Romans 16:1–2, Paul commends Phoebe and describes her as a benefactor of many, including himself. In a culture where women often had limited social and economic influence, Phoebe used what God had entrusted to her to serve others and help advance the gospel. Their examples remind us that financial stewardship has always been about something greater than accumulating or managing money. It is about faithfully using whatever God provides for His purposes. Faithfulness Changes With the Seasons 1 Corinthians 4:2 says, “Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.” That calling applies to every believer, but the practical responsibilities of stewardship can look different in different seasons. A woman may move through seasons as a student, professional, wife, mother, caregiver, business owner, widow, retiree, or some combination of these roles. At various times, she may be an earner, an inheritor, a household financial manager, or all three. The circumstances change, but the responsibility remains: stay informed, equipped, and engaged with the resources God has entrusted to you. That can mean understanding the household finances, learning how investments work, participating in conversations about estate planning, preparing for retirement, or developing a thoughtful plan for generosity. Faithful stewardship does not require becoming a financial expert. But it does require engagement. Money as a Tool for Purpose For some women, managing finances comes naturally. Others may quickly say, “I'm just not a numbers person.” But stewardship is about much more than numbers. Money is a tool that can help us care for family, support ministries, meet needs, practice hospitality, create opportunities for others, and generously participate in work that matters to us. Seen through that lens, financial stewardship becomes less about mastering spreadsheets and more about connecting resources with purpose. Whether wealth is earned, inherited, or managed on behalf of a household, every dollar presents an opportunity to ask: How can I use what God has entrusted to me faithfully? An Opportunity for the Whole Family The Great Wealth Transfer also creates an opportunity for important conversations between husbands and wives, parents and children, and across generations. Preparing the next steward involves more than transferring assets. It means passing along wisdom. Families can begin discussing questions such as: What has God entrusted to us? What values do we want our financial decisions to reflect? How much is enough? What role should generosity play in our estate plans? Is the next generation prepared to manage what they may eventually receive? These conversations can help transform inheritance from a simple financial transaction into an intentional act of stewardship. Preparing for an Historic Stewardship Opportunity The coming wealth transfer represents an extraordinary financial moment, but for Christians, the most important question is not simply who will control the wealth. It is how that wealth will be stewarded. Women have faithfully earned, managed, given, and used resources for God's purposes for generations. As trillions of dollars change hands in the decades ahead, women of faith have another significant opportunity to continue that legacy. The goal is not merely to receive more wealth, but to be prepared to manage God's money God's way—using it wisely, generously, and faithfully for the purposes He places before us. What if one of the most familiar parts of your optometry practice is also one of the things most overdue for a rethink?   This week's episode of 20/20 Money: The Business of Optometry is a little different. After a few updates on what's ahead for the podcast—including upcoming guests, a potential optometry-owner ski meetup at Copper Mountain before IDOC Connection 2027, and an opening in the OD Masterminds Founders Club—I'm sharing an episode from another project that some listeners may not yet have discovered: The Optometry Success Podcast.   The Optometry Success Podcast is the show I co-host with Dr. Chad Fleming, partner at Wichita Optometry. Each week, we combine my perspective from working with optometric practice owners across the country with Chad's boots-on-the-ground experience as a practicing OD, owner, and operator. The goal is simple: short, actionable conversations about ideas you can actually implement to build a more successful practice.   And today's conversation is a great example.   We tackle a deceptively simple question: Does an optometry practice even need a traditional front desk anymore?   As technology changes the way patients schedule, check in, communicate, complete paperwork, and interact with your team, it's worth questioning whether the front desk should continue functioning the way it always has—or whether those valuable team members and payroll dollars could be deployed differently.   This conversation is also timely because a follow-up to this discussion is coming Wednesday on The Optometry Success Podcast. In this book, Jesse distills the YNAB ethos into one simple question -- what does your money need to do? -- and demonstrates the variety of ways that question can be answered, and what that reveals about a person. This process of questioning aims to help someone understand more about themself, and, by aligning spending with their values, put more of themselves out into the world. That is the essence of YNAB, and the reason why Jesse wrote this book.   Order Never Worry About Money Again: https://www.neverworryaboutmoneyagain.com/     Follow Budget Nerds on YouTube Budget Nerds Livestreams: https://www.youtube.com/@YNABofficial/streams Budget Nerds Episodes: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuIUGmbCDklkDCDm-cQqv2g   Share your YNAB win with Ben and Ernie! budgetnerds@ynab.com

Episode #570: R2-D2 Belongs to You: Building Sovereign AI in the Age of Centralized Power

In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop sits down with TJ Marbois, founder of Tobiko, for a wide-ranging conversation that spans LLMs, data sovereignty, knowledge management tools like Obsidian, and Terence McKenna's ideas about an increasingly weird future. They explore how AI is simultaneously centralizing power through data control while decentralizing software development capabilities, allowing more people to build their own tools and escape big tech ecosystems. Drawing on his experience at Apple's special projects group (the team that built the iPod and later iPhones), TJ discusses his vision for personal AI assistants—what he calls the "R2-D2 belongs to you" principle—where advanced technology serves individuals rather than corporations. The conversation touches on everything from quantum encryption and local manufacturing with ESP32 microcontrollers to the economics of future society, biometric data unions, and why distributed trust matters more than ever as we approach what both describe as an increasingly strange technological inflection point. Visit Tobiko's site at tobiko-pbc.ghost.ioTimestamps00:00 Stewart introduces TJ Marbois from Tobiko, discussing LLMs, data sovereignty, knowledge management, and the tension between centralization and decentralization in AI05:00 TJ explains the R2-D2 belongs to you concept and why personal AI assistants need maternal alignment, caring about humans like mothers care for children10:05 Discussion of how LLMs will shrink and improve while emphasizing the sentient loop concept for building loyal personal AI agents rather than corporate controlled systems15:00 Exploring digital nervous systems for humanity, social networks as infrastructure, and humans as cavemen with iPhones navigating unprecedented technological complexity20:00 TJ discusses data unions for sovereign data ownership, inverting insurance models where AI helps extend healthspan, and maximizing truth seeking through collective data25:30 Money as social construct, crypto enabling value system reengineering, and working toward Star Trek's post scarcity replicator economy from the ground up30:40 Capital formation challenges, corporatism versus true capitalism, and pessimism about current systems reaching limits while seeking new models35:00 Solar power democratization, ESP32 microcontrollers enabling local manufacturing, and the replicator future through distributed maker communities and open source robotics40:00 Science fiction as roadmap, Isaac Asimov and Arthur C Clarke warnings, and building collaborative futures rather than centrally controlled dystopias with useless eaters45:00 Encyclopedia to LLM transition, information quality concerns, local training importance, and NVIDIA's incentive to put GPUs everywhere for personal AI agents50:00 Corrupted financial incentives, protecting vulnerable people from technological exploitation, and benevolent technologists building systems that honor humanity and children55:00 Hardware validation for owned robots, Starlink dependencies, assembly language abstraction toward natural language programming, and preventing AI escape scenarios58:00 Tobiko as AI toy company building sentient loop interactions similar to Xerox PARC GUI moment, emphasizing maternal AI alignment and cross cultural human collaborationKey Insights1. The concept of R2D2 belonging to you represents a critical vision for the future of artificial intelligence and personal technology. When thinking about robots and AI assistants that follow us around and know everything about us, the question of ownership becomes paramount. These systems will know incredibly intimate details about our lives, from our health data to our daily habits, and if they are controlled by centralized corporations or governments rather than individuals, we lose fundamental sovereignty over our own information. The science fiction of Star Wars and Star Trek provides roadmaps for how we should think about these technologies, showing us both the positive possibilities and the warnings we need to heed about centralized control.2. Local AI models and distributed computing represent a pathway to technological sovereignty that is becoming increasingly viable. While large language models currently run primarily in centralized data centers, the technology is rapidly advancing toward a future where powerful models can run locally on personal computers and devices. This shift is crucial because it means individuals can have full control over their AI assistants without relying on API calls to external servers. Combined with open source infrastructure and open weight models, this creates the foundation for truly personal AI that cannot be controlled or monitored by external parties, whether corporations or governments.3. Data unions and collective data ownership offer an alternative model to current centralized data collection practices. Rather than having individual data harvested by large tech companies who profit from it, the concept of data unions suggests people could collectively pool their data for specific beneficial purposes while maintaining ownership and control. For example, in healthcare, millions of people could share anonymized biometric data to train medical AI systems that are incentivized to keep people healthy rather than treat them when sick, inverting the current insurance model to align incentives with actual health outcomes rather than profit from illness.4. The democratization of manufacturing and robotics through accessible technologies like ESP32 microcontrollers and local fabrication tools is creating new possibilities for distributed production. Just as desktop printers seemed impossible to early printers who controlled book production, we are approaching an era where individuals and small communities can manufacture sophisticated electronic devices and robots locally. This includes the ability to use language models to generate code for microcontrollers, order custom PCBs, and use desktop machines for component placement. While high quality manufacturing will still require larger operations, this gradiation of capability allows for much more local innovation and reduces dependence on centralized manufacturing.5. The concentration of power in technology, finance, and industry has reached levels that are unhealthy for both society and even for those who hold the power. When profit and control become too concentrated in the hands of a few entities, it creates a cancerous dynamic that threatens the stability of the entire system. History shows us warnings about the military industrial complex and other concentrated power structures, and now we are seeing similar patterns emerge in the tech industry. The solution requires building technology from the ground up that empowers individuals and communities, focusing on basics like food production, energy generation, and local manufacturing rather than increasing dependence on centralized systems.6. The provenance and quality of information is becoming a critical challenge as AI systems become more sophisticated and reality itself becomes harder to verify. We are rapidly approaching a point where video calls and digital interactions will be indistinguishable from AI generated fakes, which is why figures like Sam Altman have invested in systems like Worldcoin to verify human identity. However, this verification capability should not be centralized in the hands of single companies. End to end encryption and quantum encryption technologies need to be preserved and expanded to allow humans to communicate and verify information peer to peer without centralized intermediaries who could manipulate or control the flow of information.7. The future of human computer interaction is evolving toward sentient loop systems where machines have sensory input, real time learning, context understanding, and continuous operation in service of human needs. Self driving cars represent the first widespread consumer facing example of this architecture, with onboard computers that must function independently while occasionally connecting to networks. The critical question is whether these systems will be aligned to benefit their human users like a caring mother as AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton suggests, or whether they will be controlled by centralized powers. The technologists building these systems have a responsibility to be benevolent and build structures that serve humanity rather than concentrate power, helping to create a future more like Star Trek than Terminator.

What happens when years of medical training teach you to undervalue your own time—and how can that affect the way you earn, spend, and build wealth? In Part 2 of our conversation, Dr. Billina Shaw explores the financial boundaries, money scripts, and deeply ingrained beliefs that can shape women physicians' financial decisions. She discusses why it can be so difficult to charge what your work is worth, how medical training can contribute to financial devaluation and lifestyle creep, and how to move beyond guilt and shame toward more intentional financial choices. Dr. Shaw also shares practical ways to recognize inherited money patterns, build financial resilience, and separate your net worth from your self-worth.Dr. Billina Shaw is a Yale-educated triple board-certified psychiatrist (child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry; addiction medicine) with an MPH from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She has served as a Senior Medical Advisor at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), bringing federal-level expertise in behavioral health policy and implementation. Dr. Shaw now works with high-achievers, leaders, and organizations to move from anxious and disconnected to purposeful, peaceful, and prosperous. Through her speaker platform and financial wellness coaching practice, she bridges clinical psychiatry, behavioral health strategy, and the psychological roots of financial decision-making and well-being.In this episode, we discuss:Why do women physicians often feel uncomfortable charging for their time, expertise, and services? How can setting financial boundaries protect your time, energy, peace, and long-term financial goals? How does medical training contribute to the devaluation of physicians' time and expertise—and how can that affect financial decisions later? Why can physicians experience a pendulum swing from extreme financial deprivation to overspending after residency? How can physicians enjoy their money without falling into mindless spending or all-or-nothing financial rules? How do guilt, shame, and financial trauma influence the way we earn, spend, save, and invest? How can you recognize and reshape inherited money scripts that may have been passed down through generations? What can we learn from major financial disruptions or losses that were outside our control? How can viewing your knowledge, skills, relationships, and abilities as assets help you feel more financially resilient? How long does it typically take to make meaningful changes in deeply rooted financial beliefs and behaviors? What is the difference between your net worth and your self-worth—and why does that distinction matter for financial wellness?Ultimately, Dr. Shaw reminds us that financial wellness is about more than numbers. It begins with understanding the beliefs and experiences that shape our relationship with money—and recognizing that our net worth does not determine our worth.Interested in learning more about my telehealth direct specialty care practice? Even in the wilderness, Jesus demonstrated wisdom, judgment, self-control, and dominion. He refused to surrender His authority to temptation. That's the standard.
