The fourth stop of the Move Her Mind event series with Asics was held in Nashville, TN. In this episode we speak with Lolita Sneed-Bryant, an RN, Certified Run Coach and Certified Health Coach and Abby Lokits, Executive Director of Free to Move, a non-profit advocating for Women's Safety. Free to Move was started in memory of her late sister-in-law, Alyssa Lokits, who was shot and killed on a popular running trail in Nashville on October 14, 2024. We discuss tactics and resources for coming back from trauma, women's safety and delineating between anxiety and fear. In this discussion, Lolita mentions a coronary calcium scan, also called a heart scan, which is a non-invasive CT scan used to assess coronary artery disease (CAD) risk. It helps doctors determine the amount of calcified plaque (a buildup of calcium deposits) in the heart's arteries. This information, along with other risk factors, helps estimate the likelihood of experiencing a heart attack. You can learn more about Free to Move and find resources here: https://www.wearefreetomove.org/ We've got several more stops, so join us at a city near you and bonus points if you bring a friend who needs your support & encouragement to start a movement habit. Andrew Kroeger joins Dr. Sandie Morgan as the two discuss how anyone can find their unique role in fighting human trafficking without changing careers, using the metaphor of grabbing a handle on an ancient Greek pithari jar. Andrew Kroeger Andrew Kroeger is a podcast producer with over a decade of experience and a proud Vanguard alum. Before podcasting, he worked in book publishing as an editor and spent years as a live sound engineer. He's also passionate about global missions, having spent many summers living in Romania, doing outreach work for the past eight years. Andrew has been the invisible force behind this podcast, editing every episode, managing the website, and ensuring content reaches listeners in over 170 countries. What's fascinating is how Andrew never set out to work in anti-human trafficking - this opportunity came to him through his existing skills and connections. Key Points Andrew's journey into anti-trafficking work began as a Vanguard student doing live sound for events, which led to connections that eventually brought him to podcast production work eight years later. The pithari metaphor illustrates how fighting human trafficking requires many people finding their unique "handle" - you don't need to carry the entire burden alone, just find where your skills fit. Andrew emphasizes that people don't need to change careers or entire life directions to make a meaningful impact in anti-trafficking work - opportunities often come through existing skills and connections. His global mission experience, particularly in Romania and Egypt's "Garbage City," gave him firsthand perspective on trafficking issues that keeps him passionate about the work. Eight years of editing every episode has transformed Andrew from a "tech guy" into a content expert who can now play an editorial role in shaping the podcast's message. Working consistently with anti-trafficking content can lead to emotional numbing, requiring intentional effort to maintain compassion and avoid becoming cynical about the work. The podcast's focus on hope and human dignity, rather than just statistics and outcomes, sets it apart from other anti-trafficking content and prevents burnout. Andrew's favorite episodes are those featuring Romania because they connect to his personal mission experience, and the recent AI episode with David Tyre because it showed how emerging technology can help rather than hinder anti-trafficking efforts. The podcast is transitioning to video format to reach more students and young professionals who prefer visual content and want to share episodes with friends and classmates. Finding your "handle" means recognizing opportunities that come to you naturally rather than forcing your way into anti-trafficking work - partnership is often more effective than starting from scratch. In this episode, I sit down with Erin Sullivan Wagner for a raw and powerful conversation about something that's too often ignored—sexual health in the context of cancer. Erin shares her personal experience with anal cancer, and what it was like to navigate the trauma of diagnosis and treatment while also feeling abandoned when it came to intimacy and her sexual well-being. We talk about the gaps in cancer care, especially when it comes to women. Why is it that sexual health is often dismissed or completely left out of the conversation? Erin and I unpack how deeply cultural biases and medical liability fears impact the way sexual health is (or isn't) addressed—especially for women. We also dive into the concept of prehabilitation—starting sexual health conversations before treatment begins—and why it's critical that providers get educated and empowered to offer resources, referrals, and support for their patients. Because survivorship isn't just about staying alive—it's about staying connected to your body, your relationships, and your pleasure. This is the conversation I wish every oncology team would hear. Cancer profoundly affects sexual health, yet it's often ignored. Erin's story is a powerful reminder of the trauma that comes with being left in the dark. There's a huge disconnect in how cancer care approaches female sexuality. Male sexual health gets prioritized—female sexual health, not so much. So many patients feel invisible when it comes to intimacy concerns. These conversations need to happen early, not after damage has been done. Cultural discomfort and medical fear of liability keep people from addressing sex. Women are rarely told what to expect sexually after cancer treatment. Quality of life includes sex, pleasure, and connection. We have to normalize sexual health in survivorship care. When we ignore it, the damage can be long-lasting and irreversible. This podcast episode delves into the often-overlooked topic of perimenopause, a transitional phase that affects women prior to reaching menopause. We engage in a profound discussion with our guest, Amita, who shares her personal experiences and insights on navigating this complex stage of life. The conversation emphasizes the importance of understanding the physiological and emotional changes women undergo during perimenopause, and how these can impact their professional and personal lives. We highlight the necessity for increased awareness and open dialogue surrounding this significant life transition, advocating for a supportive environment both at home and in the workplace. By fostering education and understanding, we aim to empower individuals to navigate these changes with confidence and resilience.Takeaways: The perimenopause phase is often misunderstood, and women's experiences during this time can be profoundly impacted by hormonal changes. Education and open communication about perimenopause are essential for both women and their partners to navigate this complex transition. Women must prioritize self-care during perimenopause, incorporating holistic therapies, dietary adjustments, and lifestyle changes to manage symptoms effectively. It is crucial to normalize conversations surrounding perimenopause, as many women feel shame and guilt, leading to a lack of support during this significant life phase. The symptoms of perimenopause can vary significantly among women and include irregular periods, hot flashes, sleep disturbances, and emotional changes. Holistic approaches and expert consultations are vital in addressing the multifaceted challenges women face during the perimenopausal transition. Links referenced in this episode:nourishdoc.com
Your symptoms aren't just “mom life.” They're a warning sign—and ignoring them is costing you more than you think. In this powerful episode of The Health Revival Show, Liz and Becca break down what they call The Accumulation Effect: how toxins, stress, inflammation, and decades of dysfunction pile up and lead to the chronic issues so many women face today—like fatigue, weight loss resistance, hormone imbalances, and digestive chaos. Learn how your body's “toxic bucket” gets filled over time, why quick fixes won't work, and what it really takes to reverse the damage and finally heal from the inside out. *** Early Bird Tickets (time is running out): FitMom | Own It! : The Women's Health & Mindset Summit Live ***
“Women are still judged by a different metric than men”Amol Rajan speaks to Martina Navratilova, one of the greatest-ever tennis players, about her life and career. The story of her rise to the top of the game is as remarkable as the number of tournaments she managed to win.Born behind the Iron Curtain in Czechoslovakia in 1956, she was 11-years-old when she watched Soviet tanks roll in to the country as Moscow sought to reassert control and quash political reform.Navratilova, who played in her first tennis tournament when she was eight, rose to both national and international prominence in the years that followed. But in 1975, following the Czech government's efforts to control her tennis career, she defected. Aged 18, Navratilova sought asylum in the United States, where she later became an American citizen.During the late 1970s and 1980s she dominated the international tennis circuit, and by the time she retired, she'd won 59 major singles and doubles titles. But throughout her life, Navratilova has generated headlines on the front pages of newspapers, as well as the back. She came out as being gay in 1981, a rare thing for high-profile athletes to do at the time, and quickly became a prominent figure in the gay rights movement. More recently, however, she's found herself at odds with some groups due to her views on transgender athletes. She's also battled cancer on two separate occasions.Thank you to the Amol Rajan Interviews team for their help in making this programme. Morgan is one of my favorite guests because he's candid. Could be because he's had lots of practice confessing his sins, which he does in this episode too—the sins he's been absolved of at least. I'll extract the rest when I see him for Part 2 in Prague later this summer. We discuss life after divorce and his journey back to faith. He opens up about the emotional toll of being a stepdad, the breakdown of his marriage, and adjusting to playing "both roles" as a single-parent.He shares how he wakes up at 3:40am for work, tried to raise another man's kid, and how a step-kid should know when the "King of the Castle" has closed the kitchen for the night. I mean what kind of kid would make a grilled cheese at 2am? Morgan knows. If last week's guest heard this episode, she'd say, "It's hilarious I think."
This summer we'll be interviewing a handful of interesting people who are living with Parkinson's. First up: the novelist Linda Grant. Linda started life as a journalist before becoming acclaimed fiction writer who won the Women's Prize in 2000 for her novel When I Lived in Modern Times, and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2008 for The Clothes on Their Backs. Here, she talks for the first time about her Parkinson's diagnosis, how it has impacted her writing, and how she plans to become (maybe) the first writer to bring to life a protagonist living with PD.Don't forget to sign the Parky Charter petition by going to ParkyPetition.com!Sponsored by Boardwave, who support Cure Parkinson's.Presented by Rory Cellan-Jones, Gillian Lacey-Solymar, Mark Mardell, Paul Mayhew-Archer, Sir Nicholas Mostyn and Jeremy Paxman.Produced and edited by Nick Hilton for Podot.Sound mixing by Ewan Cameron.Music by Alex Stobbs. Why are "conservative" religious leaders so afraid to speak against the biggest drivers of sin in modern life? What share of churches are "true" churches? This is an episode full of Friday whimsy, covering the Chicago Cubs, Wyndham Clark's antics, Sheriff Scottie's department expanding, and more. Andy and Brendan run through an "apology" from Wyndham in the aftermath of destroying a locker at Oakmont and how he turned this moment into a plea for a spot on the Ryder Cup team. The two also discuss Scottie Scheffler's comments from Wednesday's press conference at the Travelers regarding what he considers a "fair test" on the PGA Tour. Speaking of the Travelers, Jordan Speith withdrew with a new injury and Adam Schefter took over Thursday's broadcast with some insane PGA-NFL comparisons. Leaderboard updates are provided for the Women's PGA Championship and Champs Tour at Firestone, where PJ's pick of Thomas Bjorn is fighting for dead last. To wrap up this episode, Brendan chats with Viktor Hovland about Brian Rolapp, Jay Monahan, Oakmont, and his favorite fruit.
Story at-a-glance More than half of global sleep sessions now end with a snooze alarm, and heavy users lose the equivalent of an entire night of sleep each month People who snooze frequently tend to have irregular bedtimes, disrupted circadian rhythms and inconsistent wake times, all of which drain energy and impair focus Late bedtimes, poor light exposure and winter months trigger more snooze behavior, making it harder for your body to wake up feeling alert and restored Women are more likely to hit snooze than men and stay in fragmented sleep longer, likely due to higher insomnia rates and greater caregiving demands To reset your sleep cycle and ditch the snooze trap, sync your wake time with natural light, go to bed earlier and choose a single, gentle alarm
Motivational speakers started really gaining popularity in the 70s and 80s, the golden age of “self-help.” And in recent years, they've been even more in-demand, especially in the business world. You can't swing a dead cat these days without hitting some self-proclaimed entrepreneurial guru who claims to have the formula for success and would be happy to share it with you, if you sign up for their seminar for the low-low price of thousands of dollars. Or buy their TikTok course. But you don't have to get certified or trained to be a motivational speaker, and their industry is almost totally unregulated—meaning, anybody with a megawatt smile and a catchphrase can do it. And according to a Harvard study, most of these guys focus more on entertaining you than teaching you the way to win. It all makes you wonder—are the ones who claim to have all the answers really so enlightened? You should listen and, with these independent sources in mind, decide for yourself on the facts. I think I missed the mark a little a couple of times, but was specifically wrong in assuming that Batya was all in on the war against Iran and always had been. I apologize for that — and for getting a bit too amped up. I should try not to do that when I'm a host and I hope Batya will forgive me. But a vast amount of the chat was nonetheless delightful — and this is a stressful time.
