This podcast may give you an existential crisis when we Marching Dice a John Philip Sousa song on your face and become the best podcast about Kraftwerk and 238th greatest album of all time, Trans-Europe Express.    Before we get to the music, we let our haters become our motivators for some discussion of dominatrix dreams, one-arm pushups, and concert posters. We also celebrate a mental health day with another pack of Boston Baked Beans. Good luck trying to do a carpool karaoke version of this part of the pod with Chicken James Cordon Bleu.   Then, at (1:13:00), these four showroom dummies cover the 1977 electronic album, Trans-Europe Express. We discuss Krautrock music, sequencers, and Kraftwerk's influence on Dr. Dre.   Next week's episode will feature a dope beat as we become the best Boogie Down Production podcast and cover the 1987 hip-hop album, Criminal Minded.

Wolfgang Flür was born in Frankfurt in 1947 but moved to Düsseldorf in the early ‘50s, which has been home ever since. As a young man he played in the band The Sprits Of Sound, and studied to be an architect, hoping to get into interior design. Wolfgang joined Kraftwerk in 1973 and plays on one of the most remarkable album runs in pop music history; “Autobahn”, “Radioactivity”, “Trans Europe Express”, “The Man Machine”, and “Computer World”. He left the band in the mid-80's and his relationship with his former bandleader Ralf Hütter has been somewhat acrimonious over the past few decades. Wolfgang has just released a new record entitled “Times”, which you'll hear clips from during our conversation. The album features collaborations from Peter Hook (formally of Joy Division and New Order of course), and Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter. The day before the interview I was informed that Wolfgang's musical partner Peter Duggal would be sitting in on the call too. Peter is a musician and producer based in Hebden Bridge, and is very amenable company. This was a fun chat. Wolfgang is really funny and interesting. It probably goes without saying that I absolutely love Kraftwerk, and although I sensed it would not be wise to focus on them too much, it's still a thrill to have them represented on the podcast.   Instagram: @sendingsignalspodcast

Released in 1977, a major part of the 80s electronic/dance scene, along with a big chunk of all electronic dance music music since then owes a huge debt to this concept album about riding on the titular train, mayhaps meeting Iggy Pop and David Bowie along the way. So let's dive into Kraftwerk's "Trans-Europe Express"!

Episode 70 The Sonic Origins of Electronic Dance Music Trying to understand the evolution and history of electronic dance music (EDM) is a daunting task. We'll explore some of the sonic roots to see how we got to EDM—a beat-driven music powered by electronics and often focused on creating a trancelike musical state. Playlist Jesse Saunders, “On And On” from On and On (1984 Jes Say Records). Possibly the first DJ-created album created as a commercial public release. Produced, Performed, Arranged By Jesse Saunders; written by Jesse Saunders, Vince Lawrence. 8:02 Armin Van Buuren, “Sail” from Sail (2006 Armind). This 12” original mix was written by and produced by Armin van Buuren. 7:29 Amelie Lens, “Linger On” from Let it Go (2016 Second State). EDM performer and producer from Antwerp, Belgium. 7:41 Timmy Thomas, “Why Can't We Live Together,” from Why Can't We Live Together (1972 Glades). Timmy Thomas, Hammond organ and drum machine. Note the rapid-fire drum sequences sprinkled in here and there, a premonition around the future sound of drum machines. 4:38 Kraftwerk, “Uranium” from Radioactivity (1975 Kling-Klang). Not so much a danceable turn, but the choir sample was later repurposed by New Order in Blue Monday, so a worthy acknowledgement to Kraftwerk. 1:26 Kraftwerk, “Transistor” from Radioactivity (1975 Kling-Klang). Electronic percussion, Karl Bartos, Wolfgang Flür; Voice, Electronics, Florian Schneider, Ralf Hütter. 3:43 Kraftwerk, “Europe Endless” from Trans Europe Express (1977 Kling-Klang). Electronic Drums, Karl Bartos, Wolfgang Flur; Electronics, Voice, Florian Schneider, Ralf Hutter. 9:38 Biddu Orchestra, “Bionic Boogie” from Bionic Boogie (1976 Epic). A 45 RPM single from the disco era, featuring some electronics in the form of synthesizers. Biddu was an Indian-British music producer, composer, songwriter and singer. This was a departure for the Biddu Orchestra, which was normally engaged in full disco orchestrations, not the sonic textures of synthesizers, which are heard here, if somewhat overlayed by the other instruments. 2:59 Donna Summer, “I Feel Love” from I Remember Yesterday (1977 Casablanca). Written and sung by Donna Summer; produced by and Moog Synthesizer, Giorgio Moroder; Moog Synthesizer, Robby Wedel; Moog Bass, Thor Baldursson; Drums, Percussion, Keith Forsey; Bass, Les Hurdle.5:52 Space, “Save Your Love For Me” from Just Blue (1978 Vogue). Space was a French group, created around Didier Marouani (aka Ecama) and Roland Romanelli, acclaimed for their 1977 UK disco hit "Magic Fly." 5:45 Space, “Final Signal” from Just Blue (1978 Vogue). Space was a French group, created around Didier Marouani (aka Ecama) and Roland Romanelli. 4:21 Yellow Magic Orchestra, “Computer Game (Theme From The Invader)” from Yellow Magic Orchestra (1978 Horizon). Japanese techno band, parallel to later Kraftwerk. Drums, Percussion, Other Electronics, Vocals – Yukihiro Takahashi; Keyboards, Other [Electronics], Percussion, orchestrated by Ryuichi Sakamoto; Produced by Harry Hosono; Micro Composer programmer, Hideki Matsutake. 4:28 Mandré, “M3000 (Opus VI)” from M3000 (1979 Motown). Produced and Arranged By Andre Lewis. Lewis was a keyboardist who went on to collaborate with many artists, not the least of which for Frank Zappa for whom he played keyboards for The Mothers of Invention after the departure of George Duke. 5:43 New Order, “Blue Monday” from Blue Monday/The Beach (1983, Factory). This was a 12-inch 45 RPM single of the song which became a top seller. New Order was firmly entrenched in the synth-pop dance/crossover genre at that time and this song with its funky samples, mechanical progression and even references to Kraftwerk (the vocal choir heard is indeed a sample from Kraftwerk's “Uranium” released in 1975 effectively put a few more bricks in the bridge to electronic dance music. 7:27 Michel Huygen, “Take Now Music (Extended Instrumental Version)” from Capturing Holograms (1984 jive Electro). Recorded early 1984 in Barcelona (Spain). Composed, performed, produced, and programmed by Belgian born synthesist Michel Huygen, a member of the Spanish group Neuronium in 1976. 5:34 Kraftwerk, “Der Telefon Anruf (German Version)” from The Telephone Call (1987 EMI). Listen to this track and you will hear similarities in later work by New Order, particularly the comping synth chords and pattern. 3:47 New Order, “World (The Price Of Love) (Radio Edit)” from World. (The Price Of Love) (1993 London Records). CD single of the track also found on the album Republic (1993 London Records). This sounds as if New Order is still thanking Kraftwerk for their inspiration. 3:39 Opening background music: New Order, “Confusion (Instrumental)” (1983 Streetwise). Mixed by Arthur Baker and John "Jellybean" Benitez. New Order's sixth single and their first collaboration with Arthur Baker. Released August 22, 1983.   Opening and closing sequences voiced by Anne Benkovitz. Additional opening, closing, and other incidental music by Thom Holmes. In 1977, the German band Kraftwerk released Trans Europ Express, an album that had a monumental affect on the course of music and conjured the beginnings of a new forward looking identity for Europe. The album embodied the idea of travel as a unifying force in a post-WWII world full of divisions—most notably, in Germany itself.  Kraftwerk’s train reference hinted at a newly forming European identity—a multi-nation community—and the album itself was a reflexion and product of this growing interconnectedness. Building off of these ideas, we discuss how travel can physically connect places, and how it can also create a psychological bond between peoples.

And for this episode we’re actually in the wonderful Stanford’s Travel Book Shop, in London’s Covent Garden just before we went into Lockdown.   On this episode we cover: Being inspired by the disappearance of The Aral Sea in Uzbekistan Captain Cook and the ‘labyrinth’ of the Great Barrier Reef Visiting the archaeological wonder of Xanadu in Mongolia The lost colony of Roanoke in what’s now North Carolina Was Helike, an ancient Greek city submerged by a tsunami, the basis for Atlantis Ancient cities such as Alexandria and its great library and lighthouse The replica Stonehenge in Maryhill, Washington State Lack Havasu being created in Arizona by a champion chill chef and Disney Land planner The Americans buying London Bridge and sticking it up in Arizona The urban myth that they thought they were getting Tower Bridge Driving Route 66 with a poet friend, how very Beatnik Spring break party towns Touring Lake Havasu with a Harley Davison gang Having a fake Trafalgar Square to go with the original London Bridge Towns disappearing under hydroelectric damns The town in Australia poking up above the water The ghost-town of Bodie North East of Yosemite in California Chan Chan, the ancient capital city on the northern coast of Peru  The Yorkshire homes disappearing into the sea at Skipsea The fastest-eroding coastline in northern Europe The tensions of what to keep and what to sacrifice The positive affects of Coronavirus stopping travel Venice being in in peril The word ‘quarantine’ coming from Venice The word ‘ghetto’ also probably coming from Venice The extraordinary basilica buildings being built on world trade The art project of bridges outside Rotterdam replicating the bridges on the back of a Euro note The forts in the Solent that were meant to protect against invasion of the French One of these being turned into a party venue Slab City squatter camp in California with a golf course Always looking for the quirk in his travels Montana’s Glacier National Park that might disappear The perverse attraction of a disused mine shaft Being intrigued by places that are created for odd reasons The crazy story of Fordlandia, henry Ford’s failed utopian village in Brazil Titusville in Pennsylvania being the birthplace of Vaseline The sunken pirate city of Port Royal in Jamaica ‘Town-Planning Perversion’ Walt Disney’s Celebration utopian village in Orlando How Kraftwerk’s Trans-Europe Express really takes on new meaning when you’re staring down long German boulevards Thanks again to Stanford’s Travel Book Shop in Covent Garden for having us! The DJ Sessions - Featuring the best local, national, and world-renowned DJ's playing live sets. Ganin on The DJ Sessions presents the "Mobile Sessions" in Seattle 9/11/19 About Ganin - Ganin or Konstantin Ganin, in short Kostya Ganin, is one dedicated to electronic music fella crazed about a good groove and a good taste passionately defending techno and house music as well as other forms of electronica from the moment he has realized that dance music and DJing are very positives forces to connect with the world and unite with others through the sounds. An incredible dance of energies and passions that come from the creative and artistic elements of dance music have inspired Konstantin since his roots in northeastern Europe, the northwest of Russia, in Archangel, a northern city nearby the White Sea of rich cultural heritage and tradition. In 1998, an opportunity was presented by the family's friends to travel to the United States to learn English language and experience American culture and society. When arrived in the midwest, Konstantin have not settled on anything other than getting his first set of DJ equipment and began learning the basics of the artform, cutting his teeth at any events he could possibly manage to get booked to play at, but always with a focus on the music he enjoyed, keeping it real for the sound that inspired him. There he met some of his DJ mentors that presented some of the first opportunities to play in front of the crowd at club nights and learn how to work the audience with the power of good groove and sound. That experience provided him a solid foundation to practice the right skills and learn the sophisticated sense of music's relationship with the audience through the essence of the grooves and mixes. In 2002, a move to the northwest in the Seattle area offered more opportunities to collaborate and work internationally in the dance music scene. While juggling many jobs in a struggle to make a stable living and studying new skills, Konstantin managed to consistently play various public and private events around the Seattle area. Appearing as a guest on KBCS 91.3FM local/online electronic music radio shows Variations and Trans Europe Express. Performed at a wide variety of dance music events, club nights, parties and community projects. Played as a guest at such Seattle area venues as Resonance, The Underground, Kremwerk, The Baltic Room, Contour, Substation, Monkey, Republiq, Flight, Sky, Trinity, Element, Noc Noc, Mantra, The Islander cruise boat, and others. Co-hosted and hosted several nights as a guest as well as a resident such as Seabiza, Dance Delicious and House Temptations. Also consulted for and promoted the Seattle DJ Academy, an organization with a focus on education, enriching and empowering all ages of local and international communities of artistic minds. Most recently collaborated with a mastermind of Area 303 and Seabiza events on new exciting projects to create a world-class nightlife experience in Seattle. And now getting into music production to channel his ideas into inspirational grooves. With his regular support for the many local events as well as creative artists and DJs, while staying tuned to the variety of electronic music from around the world, Konstantin has remained true to the sound and established a brand for good taste and selective quality in his favorite forms of music. He madly enjoys unleashing a Rockin party experience every time, spinning that fine delicious dance music. Specific to an event and a theme, often with a dose of intrigue and surprise, beware of jacking sounds from classics to hot jams of today.

Kraftwerk - Anthony Rother - Trans Europa Express Edit By Mr Mr Turner Fre DL Here >> https://hypeddit.com/track/sc/i1jjjs In 2014, the LA Times called it "the most important pop album of the last 40 years." Trans-Europe Express (German: Trans Europa Express) is the sixth studio album by German electronic music band Kraftwerk. Recorded in mid-1976 in Düsseldorf, Germany, the album was released in March 1977 on Kling Klang Records. Musically, it saw the group's development away from their earlier krautrock style, with a focus on sequenced electronic rhythms, minimalism, and occasionally manipulated vocals. The themes of the songs include celebrations of the titular Trans Europ Express and the difference between appearance and image. Trans-Europe Express charted at 119 on the American charts and was placed number 30 on the Village Voice's 1977 Pazz & Jop critics poll.

1. Who is Stefano Lotti? Stefano is an Italian DJ and producer who is now based in Japan. He’s also co-founder of Equilibrium Lab, along with Luca Fabiani. Stefano is Rubber Band's founder, and he is also label manager for other labels (Ribbon Recordings and Soundpark). 2. How did you start to DJ and to producing music? When I was 10 years old my passion for electronic music began and at that time I used every “recordable” format to at my disposal (vinyl, cassette, CD, etc). When I was 14 I bought two old turntables and a little mixer with another guy and we began to learn beat matching. We started playing at friends birthday parties or anywhere we could get some practice in. My technique as a DJ got much better some years later really, after my parents were kind enough to buy me a pair of Technics 1210 and a very good mixer. After that later step, I started to produce music with a friend; after the first release I had the opportunity to start playing in clubs in Italy soon after, and then in the other countries. Over time, I refined my technique producing music and never stopped studying, as it’s a never ending process. I still learn new things every day with each production, especially as technology moves forward so rapidly. 3. 5 records that had strongest influence on you. It’s impossible to reply to this question with only 5 records. I’ll write some tracks in no order of importance because there’s too much music that had a strong influence on me as a DJ and producer. Angelo Badalamenti - "Twin Peaks Theme" - Warner Bros. Records Tangerine Dream - "Stratosfear" - Virgin Plastikman - "Plasticine" - NovaMute Frankie Knuckles - "Your Love" - Trax Records Donato Dozzy - "Gol" - Mental Groove Jan Hammer - "Crockett's Theme" - MCA Plastikman - "Spastik" (Dubfire Rework) - Plus 8 Records Jeff Mills - "The Bells" - Purpose Maker Depeche Mode - "Behind the Wheel" - Mute Records Donna Summer - "I Feel Love" - Casablanca Records Kraftwerk - "Trans-Europe Express" - Kling Klang Joseph Capriati - "Solar System" - Drumcode Chris Liebing - "D" - CLR Metro Area - "Miura" - Environ Marco Carola - "Dancing Days" - Plus 8 Records Marc Houle - "Bay Of Figs" - Minus 4. 5 artists that inspire you the most. Same here: there are lots of artist that inspire me. Probably the most influencial are: Plastikman Chris Liebing Jean Michel Jarre Aphex Twin Franco Battiato 5. 5 music labels that you admire. Warp Records Plus 8 Records Drumcode Ostgut Ton H-Productions
