As summer winds down and students head back to school, we'll join some radio detectives as they tackle cases on college campuses. Michael Shayne looks for a peeping Tom turned murderer in “The Return to Huxley College” (originally aired on Mutual on November 5, 1946), and mystery writer and amateur sleuth Dan Holiday tries to help an old friend figure out how a colleague died in “The Professor and the Puzzle” from Box 13. A murderer is supposedly dead, but someone's spotted him on campus and it's up to Richard Diamond, Private Detective to find him in “The Martin White Case” (originally aired on NBC on January 22, 1950). And The Saint returns to his alma mater to find the author of some poison pen letters before his works turn deadly in “Simon Carries the Ivy” (originally aired on NBC on April 1, 1951).

Dr. Kenneth Carter is the Charles Howard Candler Professor of Psychology at Oxford College of Emory University and the founding director of the Emory University Center for Public Scholarship and Engagement. He served as the interim dean of Oxford College from 2022-2023. A graduate of Oxford College and Emory University, Carter received an MA and PhD in psychology from the University of Michigan. He is the author of several textbooks including Psychopathology: Understanding Psychological Disorders (Cambridge University Press) and the forthcoming Living Psychology (SAGE Publications). He has published in both academic and lay publications, translating psychology research into engaging everyday language. His articles have been published in magazines such as Psychology Today and Women's Health, and he has appeared on news programs such as CNN Tonight, NPR's: ShortWave, All Things Considered, and NBC's Today show. The psychology of thrill-seeking is the current focus of Dr. Carter's research. He has delivered TEDx talk on thrill-seekers and is the host of Mind of a Motorhead an NBC Sports web series that examines the personalities of motorsport athletes. His most recent book is Buzz!: Inside the Minds of Thrill-Seekers, Daredevils, and Adrenaline Junkies (Cambridge University Press). When not teaching, speaking, or writing, Dr. Carter prefers reading and relaxing on the beach rather than wingsuit flying or BASE jumping. Rob Reich, is the McGregor-Girand Professor of Social Ethics of Science and Technology, Associate Director of Stanford's Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI), Co-Director of the Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society (PACS), and the former Director of Stanford's Center for Ethics in Society. Tonight we conclude our monthly look back at The West Wing by reviewing Season 7.The seventh and final season of the American political drama television series The West Wing aired in the United States on NBC from September 25, 2005, to May 14, 2006, and consisted of 22 episodes. The series changed time slots from Wednesdays at 9:00 pm to Sundays at 8:00 pm, and the series struggled in its new time slot against ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and CBS's Cold Case.The seventh and final season principally follows Santos and Vinick on the campaign trail, while also addressing the aftermath of the space shuttle leak investigation. The Bartlet administration's last year in office is featured, but not prominently. Toby admits to leaking the story about a military spacecraft and President Bartlet is forced to fire him. Later, Toby refuses to name his recently deceased brother as the source of the classified information, despite being urged to by his ex-wife, his lawyer and a federal prosecutor, as he feels it would be wrong to dishonor his brother's memory. C.J.'s tenure as Chief of Staff becomes more stressful as she deals with the war between Russia and China over Kazakhstan. The presidential race tightens up when Vinick's lead is dampened by an accident at a nuclear plant he had championed. Leo suffers a heart attack and dies on the night of the election, reflecting the death of actor John Spencer. Santos wins the election, and the last few episodes show the final days of the Bartlet administration and Santos' transition. "227" is a sitcom that aired on NBC from 1985 to 1990, spanning five seasons and 116 episodes. Created by C.J. Banks and Bill Boulware, it was adapted from a 1978 stage play of the same name. The show was set in a middle-class apartment building in Washington, D.C., and became one of NBC's popular Saturday night staples in the mid-to-late 1980s. It was notable for being a vehicle for Marla Gibbs, who had gained fame on The Jeffersons, and for introducing Jackée and future star Regina King in her television debut. 227 was generally well-received during its early run, praised for Gibbs's lead performance and the strong ensemble cast. Ratings were solid in the first few seasons, though they dipped in later years, leading to cast changes and retooling before the series ended in 1990. Perry, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and director of the Center for Community Uplift, shares his insights on how community-led approaches can drive investment into historically underfunded neighborhoods. Dr. Andre M. Perry is a nationally known and respected commentator on race, structural inequality, and education. Perry is the author of the book “Black Power Scorecard: Measuring the Racial Gap and What We Can Do to Close It,” published by Henry Holt. In 2020, Brooking Press published Perry's previous book, “Know Your Price: Valuing Black Lives and Property in America's Black Cities.” Perry's 2018 Brookings report on the devaluation of assets in Black neighborhoods brought national attention to systemic undervaluation of homes and extended this research to other community assets like schools and businesses. Perry is a regular contributor to MSNBC and has been published by numerous national media outlets, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Nation, Bloomberg CityLab, and CNN.com. Perry has also made appearances on HBO, CNN, PBS, National Public Radio, NBC, and ABC, and advises policymakers on economic equity. In relation to cooperative development, Perry advocates for community-based solutions such as community land trusts and cooperative investment models. These approaches align with his broader goals of stabilizing neighborhoods, redirecting capital into underinvested communities, and promoting long-term economic empowerment for Black Americans. A native of Pittsburgh, Perry earned his Ph.D. in education policy and leadership from the University of Maryland, College Park.

After an update from PJ on Don Rea's custom shoes for next month's Ryder Cup, Joseph LaMagna and Brendan dive into an eventful Sunday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Justin Rose exorcised some playoff demons, defeating J.J. Spaun on the third extra hole at TPC Initech. Rose and Spaun locked up automatic qualifier spots for their respective Ryder Cup squads, but the main story was yet another Sunday collapse by 54-hole leader Tommy Fleetwood. Brendan and Joseph discuss Fleetwood's play on Sunday and Joseph shares some insight into an impactful course management decision that may have tipped some off to the impending collapse.
