Have you ever stopped to think about the stories you tell yourself about who you are in the world -- or about how they change how you approach time in nature? Amy's been thinking about how her perception of herself as “not that outdoorsy” has hindered her ability to enjoy nature as much as she could be. Hear about her journey to this point and why confronting these internal narratives matters. Amy has been a compulsive overeater her entire life. She started young using food to cope with loneliness, frustration and boredom. As she got older, the frequency and quantity increased to binges in order to procrastinate, and cope with anger, stress, and anxiety. At her high, she weighed 270 lbs and was diabetic. In May 2016, she was hospitalized with acute pancreatitis and nearly died. From there, she found the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, learned how to cope with the stressors of life without turning to food and became an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. She lost 70 lbs and eliminated her diabetes. Her mission is to empower compulsive overeaters with recovery tools for their food addiction. In our conversation, we discuss limiting beliefs, negative mindsets and how to reframe them. The areas covered in the conversation: 1. Amy's Background Bio 2. In this conversation, Amy and I chat about the ideal client experience as a two-way street, relating to both the potential guest and the podcast host. One of my favorite quotes by Les Brown says, “Don't worry if you fall flat on your back. If you can look up, you can get up.” Amy Langer and the rest of her team over at Salo, LLC exemplify this so well. If you tuned into last week’s episode, you heard some of Amy’s story. She founded her staffing services company shortly before the recession of 2008. When that financial crisis hit, it revealed some major weaknesses in her organization’s structure. However, Amy and her team were too stubborn to give up their dream. In fact, they did the exact opposite. They hired a coach, created a strategic plan, and just kept pushing. Today, Salo is an 85 million dollar company. Tune in to hear the rest of their journey towards that incredible success. In this episode, you will hear: The clear decisions Amy and her team made during their financial crisis that started the momentum they have today. Why we need to change our mindset from saying we’re stuck to saying we’re choosing to be here. How to instill trust within your team so they own their decisions. Why Amy decided to diversify her team. How to develop diversity in your team’s quality of thinking. How to give up control in your organization. Some of the boards Amy is on and how they have grown her. The things Amy and her team did to thrive during COVID-19. Making $25k from your first launch sounds pretty great, right? On today's show, I am sharing with you the journey and evolution of Amy Wine’s business. Amy Wine is one of my former Accelerator students, and she’s a marriage and family therapist. She has a thriving in-person practice, and she also created an online business called Marriage Sparks in 2019. Marriage Sparks offers a course for couples that takes them from being married roommates to having a marriage on fire. I mostly brought her on the show to discuss her mindset and her launches because she did $25k in her very first launch. That is just amazing! Not only was her launch successful but her purpose lights her up, and there is nothing better than that. On Today’s Show You’ll Learn: What it’s like to go from brick and mortar to online The importance of nailing down your messaging How being real attracts people to you Why Amy chose the Optimized Launch Method How to learn from your data The importance of testing and trialing Why you need to know the pain points of your audience How to price your offer How to break your goal down to sound less daunting As I mentioned in the episode, January 25th is my free live mini-series training where I’m going to be teaching you my Optimized Launch Method. It’s the easiest launch method you’ll ever do, and by the end of the training, you’ll have a complete plan for using it in your business. Today we get to hear from Amy Tiemann, a real estate syndicator who also owns and manages apartment complexes. Being both a property manager and multifamily investor, Amy has a rare advantage when it comes to asset management. For her, it is imperative to first gain experience as a property manager before you can truly be great at asset management. In this episode, Amy talks about the pros and cons of being vertically integrated, the importance of hiring for company culture fit, and why she believes in employing cross-functional team members rather than ones who are skilled at only a single role. She also advises on retaining your best workers and making data-driven decisions. Be sure to listen in! Key Points From This Episode:What Amy does and the areas she is currently focused on. The advantages and disadvantages of being vertically integrated. Hear how Amy goes about building her teams around her company culture philosophy. How their team collaborates cross-functionally and why it is beneficial to all the parties. Why Amy would rather hire someone with a broader skillset than just a leasing agent. The importance of paying people well and giving them a purpose if you want to retain them. How property management and investing in multifamily makes her a better asset manager. Amy shares her two asset managers superpowers, including interpreting the data! Tweetables:“When you’re looking at, from asset management to property management, there are so many things that then overlap. Being the property manager on a property and also being the asset manager, allows you to really get in-depth and really understand the operations of what everything is going on in that property.” — @amybethtiemann [0:01:30]“But I would much rather have somebody with a higher skillset of project management that I could teach the leasing to because they’re going to get it.” — @amybethtiemann [0:06:40]Links Mentioned in Today’s Episode:Amy Tiemann Amy Tiemann on LinkedInAmy Tiemann on TwitterDISC Personality TestTableauGarzella Group redIQAPT Capital GroupAPT Capital Group on YouTubePassive Income Through Multifamily Real Estate Facebook Group Free Call with Kyle or Lalita

In today’s episode, Libby is talking with Amy Plano. Amy Plano, The Reimbursement Dietitian, RD, MS, CDE, CDN, is a successful private practice dietitian passionate about helping dietitians create a profitable nutrition private practice using an insured-based model. Together with her husband, Marc Plano, she runs, The Plano Program, a health and wellness-based center in Orange, CT. Through both her one-one and group-based coaching programs, online resources, and seminars, she teaches dietitians exactly how to use health insurance to make serious money in their nutrition practices. Her love of teaching does not stop with dietitians. In addition, she works as a Professor at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT where she teaches nutrition courses for the Health Sciences department. Even though she is one busy chick, it is fair to say Amy loves her hectic life but would not have it any other way. When she is not busy growing her private practice or teaching, you can likely find her in the kitchen cooking up some delicious Italian food for friends and family, crushing it at Crossfit Milford or traveling the world with her incredible, smoking hot husband. “I think what dietitians have to understand is that there's so many layers to this whole licensure issue that it's never cut and dry. And so, aside from who has licensure, even when you start to peel back the onion and the layers, it can become very complicated.” - Amy Plano In today’s episode… Licensure rules always follow where the patient is located, and what this means for you Each state sets forth their own rules and regulations regarding licensure Why Amy decided to leave the academy and pursue a private practice Hear why Amy feels like the core education dietitians receive should be updated to be in tune with the student Guest Resources: Connect with Amy on Instagram: @reimbursement_dietitian Amy’s Website: https://reimbursementdietitian.com/ Free Resources from Libby Are you ready to start your journey? In today's episode, we discuss the facts and myths about private labeling. We explain the pros and cons of creating a private label product as well as the steps to create one. We share some of the biggest roadblocks we've met in creating private labels, including issues with customs and the FDA. How good are you at speaking up for yourself? The problem in today’s society is that assertiveness is usually equated with aggressiveness---and that is not considered a favorable quality for most women to have. So, how do we find the balance between being too passive and not being too aggressive? Do we have to be unkind to speak up for ourselves? We’re answering these questions and so much more in today’s show! Amy Smith is a Certified Confidence Coach, masterful speaker, personal empowerment expert, and the founder of thejoyjunkie.com. Amy uses her roles as coach, writer, podcaster, and speaker to move individuals to a place of radical personal empowerment and self-love. With a focus on helping people find their voice, Amy is highly sought after for her uncommon style of irreverence, wisdom, and humor. She’s been a featured expert on Fox Five San Diego and YourTango.com. Show Highlights: Why Amy is passionate about emotional intelligence and everyone having the freedom to experience the breadth of human emotion The nucleus of Amy’s passion: people genuinely knowing that their voice matters and cultivating the skillset to speak up for themselves A pivotal moment in Amy’s life: her dad’s funeral and her mom’s condemnation of her life, due to the lack of affinity for the religion she was raised in Why you sometimes have to issue an ultimatum The realization that you can be extremely assertive AND do it with the utmost grace and kindness The differentiation between being assertive and being aggressive Amy’s intensity and sensitivity: “I genuinely believe my intensity to be my superpower, but growing up, that was not the case.” How Amy stabilized her ups and downs and managed her anxiety Why she watches what she eats, how she sleeps, and has eliminated caffeine from her diet How Amy was branded as a “bad kid” at her private school because of her outspokenness Toning herself down and tuning herself out, even when she and her husband would be around her family and have to guard against the disapproval The subconscious message that “You don’t matter” and “You’re not as important as ___________” How Amy’s intensity got out of control, when she had a panic attack last year, as she was putting new business ventures together that wasn’t in alignment with her values How she got back to a healthy place with her body Feeling fear when navigating her intuition “Walking my talk” and staying on the mission, to help people use their voice to speak up Why Amy doesn’t apologize for who she is Using progressive language as a tool with which to “get a handle” on how you speak to yourself The best advice Amy received, from her father: “The minute you get too big for your britches is the day you stop learning.” Another piece of advice was, “Make sure you live a life you can be proud of.” Maintaining healthy relationships---communication is the key to being seen and being vulnerable, which catapults us into intimacy The personal habits that help Amy to use her fire in a positive way: self-talk, being ritualized about sleep, hypnotherapy, and working with a coach Amy’s favorite books: Dare to Lead, White Fragility, and Becoming (see Resources below) How Amy helps others use their fire, but teaches them to pay attention to how they’ve been branded throughout life----and either infuse it into life or let it go Amy’s final words: “Be compassionate with yourself on your journey. As a sales leader, Amy built a successful and lucrative B2B sales career with global tech giants IBM and Lenovo. She then pivoted 180° into entrepreneurship, launching a training firm - Impact Instruction Group. She has successfully built and scaled a book of business that includes some of the world’s most recognizable brands. Her book, The Modern Seller, has just launched - so in this conversation we take our cues from its pages to discuss how modern sales success requires that sales professionals learn what it means to become a modern seller. Amy’s new book - The Modern Seller - highlights the practical characteristics sales professionals in the modern sales environment must develop in order to succeed. In our conversation she highlights each of them in turn: Be Agile Be Entrepreneurial Be Holistic Be Social Become An Ambassador I was particularly intrigued by a couple of these - holistic and ambassador - and we took the time to dig a little deeper into each of them during our conversation. Amy's insights confirmed what I’ve been learning from my own experience: The way buyers are making decisions these days requires a more integrated overall approach to prospecting, lead nurture, sales, and ongoing relationship development than ever before. The modern seller is highly developed as an individual and employs a diverse skill set. Listen to learn more about Amy’s 5 dimensions of a modern seller and to assess whether you measure up. The Modern Sales Environment Is One Of Sameness - So Differentiate Since Amy works with sales organizations in a variety of contexts I was curious to hear her observations about trends sellers are encountering these days. She pointed out that one of the most common mistakes being made by sales professionals and organizations alike is that their messaging doesn’t contain anything noticeably different than their competitors. She calls it a “world of sameness.” She recounted her own experience when looking to purchase a new piece of software for her own tech stack. Every one of the services she considered could do what she needed it to do, and their overall messaging was the same. What did she do? She chose NOT to make a decision and waited. That is NOT what sales professionals want to happen, so find out how Amy suggests you can avoid becoming part of the world of sameness by differentiating your services and approach, on this episode. Learn to Leverage 90 Day ROI To Get The Attention Of Buyers Here's a very practical modern sales tip for you that is a nuance of a tried and true sales principle. To succeed, you’ve got to learn how to address what your prospects are truly concerned about - and the timing related to that concern. For example, every buyer you speak with will be concerned about return on investment relating to the purchase of your product or service. That’s nothing new. But what has changed in regard to ROI is the timeframes involved. Amy told me a story of how a recent sales conversation she was engaged in taught her this lesson. After many conversations, she and the buyer had moved well down the path toward the sale. Amy expected the next meeting would be to work out the details so they could move forward and close the deal. What she discovered was something she didn’t expect. The buyer wanted to have a 90-day ROI projection to present to her manager. 90 days. One quarter. That’s a common time frame companies are working within these days. As modern sellers, we need to be ready for it. Amy shares what she learned and how to apply it to your sales conversations, on this episode. To Experience Modern Sales Success You Must Become An Ambassador Buyers in today’s world are better informed and more prepared for sales conversations than ever before. That means the sales role has changed and Amy says the modern seller needs to take on the role of an ambassador as a result. It allows us to stand out in the “world of sameness” buyers are experiencing. She says in order to serve your organization and your customers as an ambassador you need to do 3 things. Embody the values of your organization. This can be difficult if you don’t resonate with the organization’s values to begin with. Offer unique thought leadership. YOU have to stand apart as someone knowledgeable n trustworthy in your industry. Champion client wins. When your solutions work for a client, make the most of it. You can add value to them in a variety of ways that can result in lifetime loyalty. Amy explains these in more detail in our conversation, don’t miss it! What you are about to discover in this podcast is one of the most advanced, fringe, cutting-edge biohacks and forays into self-experimentation I've ever done... ...a full body stem-cell makeover at in Salt Lake City, Utah...including a little-known type of compound called an "exosome". Dr. Harry Adelson, my first guest on today's podcast, began his training in regenerative injection therapy (prolotherapy) in 1998 while in his final year at The National College of Naturopathic Medicine, in Portland, Oregon after having been cured of a rock-climbing injury with prolotherapy. During his residency program in Integrative Medicine at the Yale/Griffin Hospital in Derby, Connecticut, he volunteered after hours in a large homeless shelter in Bridgeport, Connecticut, providing regenerative injection therapies to the medically underserved while gaining valuable experience. He opened Docere Clinics in Salt Lake City in 2002 and from day one, his practice has been 100% regenerative injection therapies for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain conditions. In 2006 he incorporated platelet-rich plasma and ultrasound-guided injection into his armamentarium, in 2010, bone marrow aspirate concentrate and adipose-derived stem cells, and in 2013, fluoroscopic-guided injection (motion X-ray). Since February of 2010, Dr. Adelson has performed over 4,000 bone marrow and adipose-derived adult stem cell procedures, placing him among those most experienced in the world with the use of autologous stem cells for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain conditions. Dr. Amy Killen is also a guest on today's show. She joined Docere Medical after moving to Utah from Portland, Oregon, where she was the Medical Director of an anti-aging and regenerative medicine specialty practice. Dr. Killen’s medical training began in Dallas, where she attended medical school at UT Southwestern and received her M.D. degree, graduating in the top 10% of her class. She completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Arizona and served as Chief Resident during her final year. After working as a board-certified emergency physician for more than 7 years, Dr. Killen began studying and training in anti-aging, regenerative, and aesthetic medicine in hopes of approaching patients’ wellness and beauty from a different perspective and with a new toolbox of innovative and effective treatment options. Advanced training has included completion of the fellowship in Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine through the American Association of Anti-Aging Medicine and certification training in Age Management Medicine. Dr. Killen is certified by the National Institute of Medical Aesthetics in both basic and advanced cosmetic injections and trained with Dr. Lisbeth Roy to learn the O-Shot and P-Shot PRP procedures. Further PRP injection training was provided by PRP Life Lift and she completed the Hair Coach certification program with Dr. Alan Bauman in Florida, which taught a comprehensive approach to non-surgical hair loss. Dr. Killen learned how to extract and process stem cells as part of the U.S. Stem Cell Training Course taught by leading stem cell scientist Dr. Kristin Comella. Dr. Amy Killen has also spent many hours in the operating suite learning directly from Harry Adelson N.D. at Docere Clinics. Dr. Killen has spoken nationally about PRP and stem cell therapies and teaches a physician training course for ApexBiologix outlining current best practices for using regenerative therapies in aesthetics and sexual optimization. During my discussion with Harry and Amy, you'll discover: -How Harry got started with prolotherapy and PRP for pain management in farmers and construction workers... -The “Stem Cell Theory of Aging", which states that biologic aging is a result of loss function and population of stem cells in musculoskeletal tissues... -How Harry is harvesting stem cells from bone marrow, supplementing them with exosomes (the “currency” of stem cells, the inter-cellular communication blocks), and then injecting them into all major moving parts as well as skin of face, scalp, and penis... -Why exosomes may be the future of stem cell therapy... -Why umbilical and amniotic stem cells could potentially be dangerous due to exposing the body to foreign DNA... -What "MSC's" are, why are they different and better than other stem cell therapies, and how they differentiate into musculoskeletal tissues and have been called “medical signaling cells” because they trigger the healing of damaged tissues... -Why somebody would undergo a full body stem cell treatment, and whether is it going to "rejuvenate all of the cells in my body"... -What to expect after a full body stem cell makeover... Interview with Dr. Amy Killen: -What PRP therapy is, and how it differs from stem cells... -What happens when you inject stem cells into a man’s "unit", and why Amy injected Ben... -Why Amy injects stem cells and PRP into vaginas, and how the O-Shot improves the power and duration of female orgasms... -The secrets of the vampire breast lift and other cosmetic procedures she has done... -What causes hair loss, and how to fix it with stem cells... -How to use stem cells and PRP to get a non-surgical facelift, and why Amy injected my face and scalp... -What V-cells are and how they work... -Post-treatment care and biohacks to enhance recovery and efficacy of the treatment... -And much more! You may have heard Amy and I talk about being addicted to approval and feeling like a fraud back in Episode 118. This time we talk in-depth about her addiction to alcohol, her obsession with seeking approval and using blame as a crutch. Amy is a master certified life coach, a coach mentor, and founder of LiveBrazen.com. She is currently writing her first book, a memoir called, “Forgiving Amy,” where she shares her experiences with self-forgiveness. Amy has been sober for four years. Today, she shares how grieving the loss of her mother and feeling shame around not being the person she thought she should be led to her downward spiral into ”self-medicating” with alcohol. And, then later, she shares a poignant story of what made her turn everything around and led her onto the path of recovery. In this episode you’ll hear: How two life-changing events underlined her path to addiction (9 minutes and 12 seconds) Amy discusses how alcoholism is progressive and the fact that she was very self-aware of her addiction (13:03) Amy shares the story of putting her children at risk because of her addiction and how it ultimately led her on the path to recovery. Plus, she shares a promise she made to herself. (16:43) How recovery can lead you to uncover and accept parts of you that you didn’t know even existed; including the good, the bad and the dark. (21:18) Why Amy thinks alcohol and drinking is the lazier choice (24:27) Telling the truth and finding a supportive community helped Amy get sober, and how it all was a very humbling process (26:05) Saying no is hard, but it’s so important to put into practice when maintaining sobriety (28:39) We discuss triggers (both big and small) and two tools Amy uses for overcoming them (32:28) http://yourkickasslife.com/196
My friend and colleague Amy Wease is here to talk about how to use the book The Paradox of Choice to help your buyers make better decisions faster. I started a book club with the agents that I work with because every day I reference certain books. The concepts in the books we talk about can be applied to our lives, our businesses, and with our clients. If you want to help your mindset and grow your business, you may want to join us in the book club! You can join here. It's free and it's fun and it will help your business grow! Every month, I choose a book that has profoundly changed the way I think and do business. Then a month later, I have a conversation about the book. Join and you will get your first book club pick right away and then the discussion will be four weeks later. You can find Amy here: Amy Wease Show Notes [03:59] How this book helped me to become a better decision maker, and it helped me to help my clients become better decision makers. [04:21] We must first narrow our options then we can make a decision. [05:19] How having more options makes decision making more difficult. When I see clients struggle with decision making, I actually send them the book. [06:06] You don't have to look at every house and every neighborhood. We can start by casting a wide net, but buying a house is a process in decision making. It is my job to help clients narrow their choices right away. [07:19] Applying the principles in the book has helped people make decisions better and faster. [08:08] How having too many choices make people shut down and stop. [08:22] If you see clients struggling, it is time to start narrowing the choices. [08:40] How to create a framework to help people make decisions. [08:57] Budget, location, and criteria such as bedrooms etc. Organizing decision points in these categories makes it easier to make a decision. [10:04] Picking one thing that doesn't change and then narrow from there. [12:30] The danger of having too many decisions points and using the framework to narrow things down. Ask the client how long they want to live in the property? [13:29] Why Amy decided to join the book club. The book choice seemed unexpected because it wasn't real estate specific. This sparked her curiosity. [15:14] How to help clients feel confident and happy about the home buying process. [17:02] Amy's mom didn't understand the connection of reading this book for real estate purposes. How the book helps us understand how people make decisions and the pitfalls they run into and how to apply it to home buying. [19:38] How looking outside the real estate industry to be better at our jobs. We are here to help clients for life and show that we are different. [20:44] Maximizers versus the satisfiers. There are two types of people. Satisfiers make decisions fairly quickly. Maximizers have to have the best of the best. They may focus on status and what other people are doing. [22:23] No one is exclusively one or the other, but understanding the concepts helps us understand what the client is going through and what their wants and needs are. This helps agents to not waste time when all of the boxes need to be checked. [24:48] If you keep hitting a dead end, you may be dealing with a maximizer. It helps you to recognize it and know what you are dealing with. [25:30] The way people make decisions in other aspects of their lives also affects how they will make decisions about buying a house. [26:19] How the idea of more is better is constantly promoted. Even though, more choices can be overwhelming. [27:12] Constantly wondering if you can do better and how that can hurt home buyers. [28:39] Getting what you want when you become crystal clear about what you want. [29:23] The importance of being upfront and honest when there are trade offs. [30:04] The concept of the imagined alternative. It is an agents job to cut this off by adding clarity to the home search. Jennifer sends them a list of houses that have sold which can eliminate the imagined alternative or let them know that it exists through waiting. [33:23] How clients always ask the what if question. Giving evidence and using the resources you have at hand helps give clients a sense of peace [35:01] Jennifer wants every real estate agent to read this book and understand how more choices leads to bad decision making. [35:35] Amy found that taking the client through the process and being more than just a house hunter has had a positive impact on her clients lives. These people start making decisions better and faster. This new way of thinking even helps people become happier. Today’s guest is Amy Morin who is a licensed clinical social worker, psychotherapist, and a lecturer at Northeastern University. She is also a keynote speaker, parent teen expert and child discipline expert for VeryWell.com and best selling author of 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do. I watched Amy’s TED talk, The Secret of Becoming Mentally Strong, recently and I am excited to speak with her today about how parents and teens can build resilience. In this episode you will learn: Building your mental strength What locus of control means Role modeling your mental strength to your teen Taking calculated risks Why Amy wrote a book Amy shares her personal story of the loss of her mother and husband and how it impacted her journey in becoming more mentally strong during tough times She began to write articles after the death of her husband She wrote a letter to herself about “13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do”, posted it on line “and it went viral” Amy does speaking events in helping others “give up bad habits that keep them stuck.” “As therapists we focus on good habits and strengths, but also need to explore what keeps us held back.” The chapters give examples and at the end of each chapter there is “what’s helpful” and “what’s not helpful”. Chapter one “They don’t waste time feeling sorry for themselves” People get stuck on problems vs solutions Need to look forward or how can I make my life better Amy shares how she had to figure out how to manage “the tough days” after her loses Finding ways to be grateful for what you have vs what you lost Not dwelling on past, learn from it and move forward Recognizing that you can control your mood Allow yourself to feel emotions vs choice of staying stuck in it or leaning into it and move forward Chapter four is about locus of control (external vs internal and bilateral) External locus of control-think outside forces dictate our lives Internal locus of control-I have power over the things that happen to me Bilateral-little of both You accept you can control your behaviors and other areas of your life you don’t have control over, such as other people’s behaviors. Raising mentally strong kids is being a good role model As you embrace these mentally strong concepts it helps your teenager Teaching your teen how to deal and cope with difficult emotions Tip for Parents Being mindful of language you use because it can imply you are a victim For example “I have to” vs “This is a choice” Chapter six is about taking calculated risks Decisions usually based on emotions vs exploring logic and seeing pros/cons of taking risk Parents can help teens understand how their brains are changing and looking at risks/consequences vs reacting impulsively Begin to face fears and tolerate anxiety, you can gain confidence Parents you can reflect why your teen daughter’s friends maybe doing X behavior (i.e. feels good, is exciting) and why we need to look at both sides of good and bad of choice As you practice these concepts, it can help not only you build resilience when tough times happen, but also help your teen daughter gain this skill. What if success was less about mastery and more about sight?Simple truth: Most of us don’t see what is right in front of us.Instead, we see mental models and imprints of what things “should” look like or what we’ve been told to see. And, we miss what's actually happening, along with all the critical details. As entrepreneurs or professionals, it’s extremely difficult to become extraordinary at anything, to serve on the deepest level or build businesses, careers and lives that are tapped into their potential until we first understand how to see what’s in front of us.Today’s guest, Amy Herman, can help. A former lawyer with a dual education in art, she saw how a pervasive inability to both see truth and details and then share them in a clear way was limiting the work of so many people. So, she developed The Art of Perception, a program to teach (non-artist) professionals strengthen their perception skills using classic works of art in a museum setting. The impact has been astonishing. She now works with everyone from the NYPD FBI to the Department of Defense, doctors and med students, as well as leaders in the fields of education, finance, and policy. Amy’s new book, Visual Intelligence, describes her process and her work. In This Episode You’ll Learn:The impetus behind the launch of Amy’s programs. The experience of The Art of Perception and what people can expect when they go through the program. The four As of Amy’s program and how they help professionals become better at their jobs. The importance of taking a step back and making sure you have enough information if you choose to rely on a bias. Why eyewitness testimonies are not a reliable source of information.Amy’s tip for getting the complete picture of a situation at hand. Why Amy prohibits certain words in her classes. The importance of self-perception and why it’s critical to self-development.Why Amy is unhappy with the state of the formal art education and what she suggests to those majoring in art.Mentioned In This Episode:Connect with Amy: The Art of PerceptionVisual Intelligence by Amy HermanThe Gift of Fear by Gavin de BeckerThe METMuseum of Fine Arts, BostonThe Frick Collection
Supernatural gifts, demons, and martial arts - oh my! In our two segments with Amy Brock McNew, Aaron manages to break Amy before we barely even get started. Which is totally epic. Amy, for those of you not in the know, is the author of REBIRTH, which debuts May 24th. She is an interesting character (and one you may be hearing more from in the near future!) In Episode 22: Why Amy wrote REBIRTH, which sounds a lot like many other authors' reasons for writing their books. The cathartic background of REBIRTH for Amy. Amy teases the sequel, RECONCILIATION, in her description of her favorite character in the book. (There's popcorn involved!) And it makes all of us want to read Rebirth. Crazy looks from the neighbors (this story is totally worth the entire interview) Some of the freaky things that Amy ran across in the course of research, and how off so much of it was.
