This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I'm continuing my monthly Tarot Therapy series by exploring a topic I've been wanting to discuss for ages: How tarot and witchcraft function as Psychodrama.Specifically, I explore how tarot and witchcraft can be understood and practiced through the lens of psychodrama, a powerful therapeutic method developed by Dr. Jacob Moreno. Psychodrama is essentially theater for the psyche. It's an embodied way of working with emotion, memory, and healing through role play, creativity, and storytelling. If you've ever lit a candle for someone you love, pulled a tarot card that made your stomach drop, or cried while drawing a protection sigil - then you've already engaged in psychodrama. In this episode, I share why I believe tarot and magick aren't just symbolic or ritualistic, but active, expressive healing tools. I talk about how tarot spreads become psyche-inspired stages, how tarot becomes characters, and how we can use these practices to externalize our inner world in ways that go beyond talk therapy.I also walk you through a guided psychodrama-inspired tarot practice using a technique called the soliloquy - a beautiful, embodied way to give voice to something you've been holding inside. ✨ In this episode, I talk about:What psychodrama is and how it relates to tarot and ritualWhy embodiment and symbolism matter for emotional healingHow to turn your tarot spread into a living storyA guided soliloquy-style tarot activity to help you release what's been unspoken Want to find out all of the ways you can connect with me live this month? What do you have to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” 35 But Jesus rebuked him and said, “Be silent and come out of him!” And throwing him down before them, the demon came out of him without hurting him at all.36 Amazement came over them all, and they were saying to one another, “What is this message? For he commands the unclean spirits with authority and power, and they come out!” 37 And news about him began to go out to every place in the vicinity.Sabbath is:A day set apart for rest, modeled on the creation storyA reminder that humans are meant to inhabit the world. A man was there whose right hand was shriveled. 7 The scribes and Pharisees were watching him closely, to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they could find a charge against him. 8 But he knew their thoughts and told the man with the shriveled hand, “Get up and stand here.” So he got up and stood there. 9 Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you: Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?” 10 After looking around at them all, he told him, “Stretch out your hand.” He did, and his hand was restored. 11 They, however, were filled with rage and started discussing with one another what they might do to Jesus."I ask you: Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save a life or restore it?"Sabbath is not merely a day of rest, but a marker of identity and communal unity. Why do we come to worship? DutyDiversionActs 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”δύναμιςdunamisdynamisDynamiteGod promises to be with us, and there will be dunamis- the power to be changed, healed, convicted, guided, and blessed.

As real estate agents, the MLS is something we need to know inside out and stay on top of. That's really hard to do with the current MLS experience. Sitting at a desktop and staring at a spreadsheet doesn't encourage us to consistently engage with the MLS.  If we think about the apps we love to use, they have the same things in common. They are designed for palm-of-hand consumption - meaning it's mobile-first, highly visual and extremely scrollable.  What if we could bring that same experience to the MLS and truly bring listings to life?  Tuesday is an app that's revolutionizing the MLS experience so agents can spend more time sharpening their expertise. Ultimately, listings are a story, and MLS spreadsheets don't tell that story well.  What inspired the creation of Tuesday and how is it helping agents get better? In this episode, founder Coleton Boyer shares why it's high time the MLS experience improved and how he's doing it.  Every listing tells a story. Growing up, there was a fairly limited list of shows I was allowed to watch. One of those shows was called “Superbook: Bible Stories.” If you were to watch a few episodes of it, you'd notice that each one had essentially the same story arc: It opened in the normal life of a boy named Christopher, who at some point (along with his friends) would open a magic Bible and be suddenly transported into whatever Bible story they had opened to. Then, for most of that episode, they would be immersed in the world of that Bible story as they walked through the terrain, and interacted with the events and characters of that story. Then, unexpectedly they would be transported back to their normal world. Now that's a pretty common story arc: think the Narnia books, or another classic like the Magic Tree House series. It's just a great story arc! In part because of the adventure of discovering and exploring a world previously unknown. But also, because these journeys into another world would always have a lasting impact on the kind of boy Christopher was becoming back in his “normal life.”Similarly, this morning, we get to enter into the world of Psalm 81 which gives a vivid snapshot into times and places distant and foreign to us, and yet God in his wisdom intends for this Psalm to shape who we are becoming here and now. And so let's ask for His help before we enter Psalm 81. Father, we come here as your children. Rescued and adopted — and on a journey of ever-increasing satisfaction in you. And you will complete what you began in us. Would you meet us this morning, wherever we're coming from? Whatever we're bringing in with us — work in our hearts, by Your Spirit and through Your Word, we pray, in Jesus name, amen.If you're looking for a way to orient to Psalm 81, there are three main scenes that we'll focus on:A joyful songA tragic storyA hope-filled invitationScene 1: A Joyful SongIf we were transported into the context of Psalm 81, we would likely be greeted with the sights and smells of feasting and festivals. In fact, it might be helpful to imagine something like an ancient version of the state fair. The time of the year would be around early October, and it was a month filled with essentially back to back feasts and festivals. According to God's instruction in the book of Deuteronomy: At the beginning of that month (known by them as the new moon) they were to celebrate the Feast of Trumpets. This lasted 10 days leading into The Day of Atonement, which was the day at the center of the book of Leviticus — On the day of atonement, Israel would remember God's mercy in atoning for or covering the sins of his people. Then, about a week later, they would begin the Feast of Tabernacles — also known as the feast of booths or what we might call tents. This took place in the middle of the month (or their “full moon”) and that feast lasted about a week. Its focus was on remembering God's faithfulness and provision to the Exodus generation in the wilderness (hence the tents). And Psalm 81 was a song, especially for this season. We see that in verse 3 with the mention of the trumpet, the new moon, the full moon, and the feast day.So imagine this: we're making our way through this ancient festival … We're seeing crowds of people mingling, the smells of good food, the sounds of children playing and laughing … Until it's all drowned out by the blast of a trumpet — think of the same kinds of trumpets as Joshua used in Jericho, but in this case, the trumpets called God's people to gather to worship. And as they gather, the instruments play, and God's people begin gladly singing together. And the song itself begins with a call to worship. The psalmist is singing, and instructing them how to sing at the same time. It's kind of like the old song, “Come now is the time to worship.” God instructs his people in what their worship should look like. And central to that instruction is joy. “Sing aloud to God our strength, shout for joy to the God of Jacob! Raise a song: sound the tambourine, the sweet lyre with the harp” (Ps. 81:1-2).This corporate singing was meant to be a time of shared gladness and expressions of joy. Joy in God and in their common identity as God's people. This was an essential rhythm of their covenant renewal, a regular reminder of the happy reality of their identity as God's people and of their commitment to Him as their God.We know that joy isn't the only tone we see in the psalms. The Lord, in his wisdom, has given his people a wide range of psalms. There are songs of grief and lament, songs of repentance, of reverence and awe — all of which help us faithfully navigate the full range of our human experience, but the common thread, and most dominant tone of God's singing people is joy. And we see that tone here.God is the author of joy. He has created our capacity for it. And He created music and singing both for expressing that joy, and for deepening and cultivating it. God spread His joy throughout the world through a joyfully-singing people. In light of that, it is right and helpful to ask ourselves: Does my singing reflect the reality that God is my greatest joy? Is my heart impacted by the astonishing truths that my mouth is singing? And to whatever extent that isn't the case, it's important to ask, what is holding me back from God's call to joy-filled worship?Whether it's a lack of joy … or distractions, or fears and insecurities … whatever the hindrance, singing is an opportunity to search our hearts, surrender our affections to God, and to trust Him to shape our joy.Spurgeon commenting on these verses says,“It is to be regretted that the niceties of modern singing frighten our congregations from joining lustily in the hymns. For our part we delight in full bursts of praise, and had rather discover the ruggedness of a want of musical training than miss the heartiness of universal congregational song.”In other words, our singing doesn't need to be polished, but it should be full of joy.God commands not just our actions here, but also our affections. We are not helpless bystanders in our pursuit of joy. God's gift of singing is not only for the downstream expression of our joy, but also upstream as a habit that grows and deepens our joy in Him. Our singing cultivates our joy in God.One example that's helped me see this in a new light was my grandmother. My grandma passed away the week before my daughter, Elsie, was born. She had a deep love for Jesus, and she loved to sing. In her final years, she had a long decline both physically and cognitively. Eventually, her dementia had progressed beyond recognizing her children and grandchildren, and she spent most of her time bedridden. And yet, long after her mind could explain to you the deep joy that she had found in Jesus, she would often sit in her bed, holding a hymnal she could no longer read, and with a peaceful gladness, she would sing the hymns that had been engrained in her over a lifetime of praise with God's people. Even then, her song continued to testify to her all-satisfying God, and I am convinced, that it continued to deepen her joy in Jesus. That image has helped shape what “finishing well” looks like to me, and it especially comes to mind when I sing “Jesus Loves Me” with Elsie at bedtime. It also gives a glimpse of the deep significance of our singing together week after week. And so God calls his people to sing for joy. And as they do, God speaks to them in the song as it transitions to an oracle, or a word from the Lord. And as God speaks he begins to recount the tragedy of Israel's disobedience. And this leads us into our second scene.Scene 2: A Tragic StorySo imagine: now we're transported from the festival into the wilderness to join the Exodus generation.Verses 6-7a,“I relieved your shoulder of the burden;your hands were freed from the basket. In distress you called, and I delivered you…”God first recalls his past redemptive work in rescuing Israel from slavery. Notice how vivid these descriptions are. Commentator Derek Kidner says,“Instead of abstractions such as oppression and redemption, we read of shoulder and hands, burden and basket.”For 400 years Israel's day-to-day reality was back-breaking, soul-crushing slavery in Egypt. They had bruised shoulders, blistered hands, and heavy baskets. But then God stepped in to that reality. The Exodus was one of the most epic “But God” moments of the Old Testament: God heard the cries of his people, and he came to their rescue. God showed both his great strength and his commitment to Israel. God rescued his people. Then God continues to show not only what he rescued them from, but what he continued to do for them afterward — God did not drop them off in the wilderness and say “figure it out.” He did not leave them to fend for themselves. He took them under his wing, his care, his provision, and, his instruction.God's instruction is especially highlighted here: God himself instructed his people and his commands were a means of grace to them. This took place, most notably, at Mt. Sinai (which God refers to in verse 7 as “the secret place of thunder”). Mt. Sinai was where God gave his law to his people. And verses 9-10 also allude to that event. Verse 9,“There shall be no strange god among you; you shall not bow down to a foreign god.”This echoes the 1st and 2nd commandments in Exodus 20:3-5. Psalms 81:10, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”This echoes God's preface to the 10 commandments in Exodus 20:2.God makes himself clear to Israel through his commands. In them, Israel is meant to see who God is and what he expects from them. He is their God and so His word is their Law. He holds out his commands and says “Listen to me!”God's command to listen is the most repeated exhortation in this psalm. God is not just looking for mouths that sing to him, but also for ears that hear Him and obey. Verse 8,“Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! O Israel, if you would but listen to me!Verse 11,“But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me.”Verse 13,“Oh, that my people would listen to me,that Israel would walk in my ways!”God calls Israel to listen and obey. But instead his people respond with stubborn and obstinate hearts. And we see that clearly displayed with God's mention of Meribah in verse 7.The name “Meribah” means “quarreling” or “strife” — and it was a place in the wilderness that Israel passed through in Exodus 17, near the beginning of their journey through the wilderness, and then again in Deuteronomy 20, near the end of their journey. And both instances were complete disasters.Imagine, God had just miraculously delivered them out of Egypt, with great displays of power in his plagues on Egypt, and in parting the sea, and then swallowing their enemies in that sea. God then leads them through the wilderness in a pillar of smoke by day and a pillar of fire by night. He has already made bitter water sweet for them to drink, and given them manna from the sky for them to eat. And their response, in Exodus 17, when they get to Meribah and can't find water is to say: “is the Lord among us or not?” And then to turn to Moses (ready to stone him) and ask “did you bring us out of Egypt to kill us with thirst?” But God, in his patience and mercy, still gives them water from the rock. That was the first encounter with Meribah. Then we fast forward to Numbers 20, near the end of their time in the wilderness. At this point, not only had they received God's law at Sinai — his teaching, his instruction — but also decades of God patiently leading and training his people. Think 40 years of God's discipleship for his people, and they come up on Meribah again as if God saying “here's your chance, show me that you've been listening.” And instead, they turn again to Moses and through gritted teeth say: “why have you brought us into this wilderness to die?”And this time, even Moses fails to listen, ignoring God's clear instruction to speak to the rock. Instead, he hits the rock twice and as a result he too doesn't make it to the promised land. The whole scenario at Meribah is like the bookends of a 40 year train-wreck of God speaking, and Israel ignoring every word.Despite God having proven himself over and over they refused to listen to him and walk in his ways. They did not see God's instruction as the blessing that it was — and threw it off as an unwelcome constraint. They wanted God's benefits, but they did not want his rule. They wanted the water from the rock, but rejected the source. And it brings us to God's judgement in verse 12,“So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels.”There is a scary, Romans 1, kind of giving them over here. God gives them over to the stubbornness and depravity of their own hearts as if God finally says, “okay, have it your way.” Not just freedom from Egypt, but “freedom” from God's rule … Unhindered in pursuing their own desires, and following their hearts, but it did not result in any satisfaction, but rather, a downward spiral into ruin. And that should sound familiar to us because it's the lie that Satan tries to sell us all the time. Follow your heart, and your desires. Don't let God's commands hinder your pursuit of satisfaction. In other words, God has no authority over you: You be God. It is self-idolatry, advertised as progress and human flourishing. It is the very opposite and perversion of “I am the Lord your God, you shall have no other Gods before me.” God makes it clear that a life of disobedience will result in judgement and it's reiterated in verse 15,“Those who hate the Lord would cringe toward him, and their fate would last forever.”But even in the middle of His judgement … Don't miss God's lament for Israel here. There is a sad tone of missed opportunity. Verse 13,“Oh, that my people would listen to me,that Israel would walk in my ways!”God's heart is to bless his people. And he longs for his wandering people to return to Him.Now, you might be wondering: wasn't this supposed to be a joyful song? Why does it have such a tragic ending? It feels like the beginning and the end don't belong in the same song. “Sing Aloud,” “Shout for joy,” and “Sound the tambourine” doesn't seem to fit with “I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own counsels.” At least, until we zoom out and recognize that this was a song sung by a future generation. And once we are transported back to that festival context the tone of this Psalm shifts from a tragic story to our final scene…Scene 3: A Hope-filled InvitationAs they sang this Psalm together, they heard not only God's cautionary tale but also his invitation. The tragic story of their fathers did not have to be their story. Instead of following in their fathers' steps of stubborn hearts and disobedience, God was inviting them to trust in Him to satisfy them. Verse 10, “Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.”It's a beautiful image of our hunger met by His provision, of our longings and His satisfaction. Just like the infant is satisfied by his mothers milk, we were made to be satisfied by God. It's not ultimately the water from the rock that we long for, but the rock Himself. It's not just the blessings that we want to be satisfied, but the source. And so behind the mouth that sings and the ear that listens is a heart that loves God above all else, turning to him to be satisfied. And God is both ready and eager to satisfy those who come to Him. And we've already seen in this psalm, two means by which he satisfies his people: Through his word as we listen to it and obey, and through our joy-filled singing. But I would like to briefly mention one more. And that is just to ask Him. Make it a regular part of your day to ask God to give you more of himself. That by His Spirit and through his word, you would grow in an ever deepening satisfaction in Him. That he would guard your heart from competing loves and disordered desires. And likewise, pray bold and specific prayers that take God at his word, and that deepen our heart's dependence on Him for satisfaction. God delights in answering those prayers.Verse 16,“But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”The psalm closes with more imagery of feasting as God invites his people to come and be satisfied by Him. And that brings us to this table. The TableThe Old Covenant feasts were a shadow pointing forward to a greater reality. God's Old Covenant rescue of Israel from Egypt was a shadow pointing forward to a greater rescue: God becoming a man to rescue his people from sin and judgment. Jesus, dwelt among us, took on our sins, and died in our place to rescue us from the judgment we deserved. And now the risen Jesus invites us to come to Him and be satisfied. Jesus says, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”Let's pray. And so Father, as your children, rescued and redeemed, we come eager for more of you this morning. Help us be a joyfully singing people. Help us be a submissive people that listen to and obey your word. Work in our hearts, by your Spirit and through your word, to grow us in ever-deepening satisfaction in you. We pray these things in Jesus name, Amen.

Curators Jake Subryan Richards and Vicky Avery locate Cambridge within the transatlantic slave trade, connecting global commodities and local consumption, historic and contemporary art, to reveal how five hundred years of colonial resistance constructed new cultures, known as the Black Atlantic. Between 1400 and 1900, European empires colonised much of the Americas, transporting over 12.5 million people to these colonies from Africa as slaves. It's a history often recounted as something singular, concluded in the past - detached as happening ‘then, and over there' - else told from the perspective of imperial powers. But in their resistance of colonial slavery, people also produced new cultures that continue to shape our present. Black Atlantic, a new exhibition at Cambridge's Fitzwilliam Museum, reconnects the institution's collection, university, and city more widely with these global histories. Installed within the Founder's Galleries, part-funded by the profits from the transatlantic slave trade, it builds on the ‘grandeur and smugness' of the Fitzwilliam's architecture - an intervention which asks whether it is possible to decolonise museums, as imperial infrastructures. Co-curators Jake Subryan Richards and Vicky Avery consider contrasts and continuities between historic and modern works, with contemporary Black artists like Barbara Walker and Keith Piper, Alberta Whittle and Donald Locke commenting on visibility, racism, and colourism, and how visual representations of Black people have shifted over time. Vicky smashes stereotypes about abolitionism, ceramics, and popular culture, from the UK's largest pro-slavery punch bowl, to Jacqueline Bishop's new Wedgwood dinner set. Plus, with a botanical painting from a Caribbean plantation - one of the first signed works by a Black artist of a Black subject - we travel between environments in West Africa, North and South America, and Europe, finding examples of exploitation, agency, and self-liberation - and pathways to future ‘repair'. Black Atlantic: Power, People, Resistance runs at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge until 7 January 2024, the first in a series of exhibitions and gallery interventions planned until 2026. Welcome to the Fox Tales series. Today's story-'The Fox And The Stork' is a story where Fox tries to act smart, but listen to the story to find out if he succeeds or not!Free activity sheets and other downloadable resources are available at www.rituvaish.com/the-fox-and-the-storkSend your artwork to rituvaish@gmail.com.TranscriptOne day, a selfish fox invited a stork for dinner.Children, How do you feel when you get an invitation to a party?Indeed. So, even the Stork was very happy with the invitation – On the day of the party she dressed up in her finest suit and with a big smile on her face, she reached the fox's home. She stored her feathers with her long beak. Then feeling good she knocked at the door with her long beak. Children, the Stork uses her beak for two things, can you name them and add another use? That's right, the stork used her beak for straightening her feathers and knocking on the door. She also uses her beak to catch fish.Let's listen ahead. So, the stork knocked at the door of the fox's house. The fox opened the door and greeted her. Then took her to the dinner table. The aroma of the delicious food made the stork's mouth water. The fox served some soup in shallow bowls for both of them. As the bowl was too shallow for the stork, she couldn't have soup at all. But, the fox licked up his soup quickly. The stork was angry and upset, but he was a calm, even-tempered fellow and saw no good in flying into a rage and behaved politely. She thanked the fox for the dinner, which she couldn't even taste. After a few days, the stork invited the Fox to dine with her in turn. The fox was intrigued that despite what he had done to the stork, she was still inviting him.The fox was excited about the dinner and on the day of the dinner, he. Got ready and went to the stork's home. The stork welcomes him and she too served soup, but this time the soup was served in two tall narrow vases. Children, why do you think the stork did that?Yes, to take revenge. The stork drank the soup from her vase, but the fox couldn't drink any of it because of the soup container's narrow neck. The fox realised his mistake and went home hungry.Moral of the StoryA selfish act backfires sooner or later!

Nuclear technology is having its moment, according to Zeno Power cofounder and CEO Tyler Bernstein.NASA has used radioisotope tech since the 1960s, but the systems have historically been too expensive and heavy to be widely used. Zeno Power, which develops radioisotope power systems (RPS) that are lighter, more efficient, and more cost-effective than legacy systems, is trying to change that. How it works? Zeno Power's RPS works by converting the heat from decaying radioisotopes into electricity. Its initial system uses Strontium-90 (Sr-90), an abundant and affordable fuel that has been used in thousands of legacy RPSs. The core innovation is in the fuel design and shielding technology, a key issue given Sr-90's radioactive properties. The company has had a recent string of commercial successes, including a number of unannounced contracts, but some of the public wins are:A $30M STRATFI contract awarded in May to build a radioisotope-powered satellite for the U.S. Air Force by 2025.A $15M NASA Tipping Point award to develop an Americium-241 (Am-241) radioisotope Stirling generator (RSG) for long-duration lunar missions. This week's Pathfinder episode features Tyler Bernstein, Zeno Power's CEO. The company was founded in 2018 by Tyler and two other Vanderbilt undergrads after working on a project to design a nuclear reactor for a Boeing 777. Today, Mo and Tyler discuss:Zeno Power's origin storyA brief history of nuclear power in spaceThe benefits of using radioisotope power systemsThe future of fission and fusionAnd much more…This episode is brought to you by Epsilon3, software for complex engineering, testing, and operational procedures. If you haven't listened to last week's episode, go back and do that now, because this is a continuation of that episode, where I tell my story and share how I got to where I am now. After leaving my job, I started an entertainment company with two of my friends. After doing that for a while, I felt inspired to build a business online, so I could do some more traveling. That is how I discovered podcasting. As I was working on getting started with podcasting, I was consulting on events on a freelance basis to make some money, and I was reminded that I didn't like to organize events. I decided to focus on podcasting, because I felt that it was going to be the next big thing. Podcasting started to take off with me, and it gave me a platform to build relationships. I struggled a lot starting my podcast business, but it gave me the opportunity to travel again, so I lived in Guatemala for a month, got into a relationship, and traveled around for a while. I found myself wondering what the point of was of everything I was doing. I returned home and did a few odd jobs. As soon as I found a client that would pay my expenses, I moved to Columbia, and I jumped into building a startup with a friend. The startup went south, and I lost all self confidence. I ran out of money and had to come back home. I felt like a complete loser, and I started the process of rebuilding. This was the point where I decided to start working on my book, but it was difficult to be creative when I was in survival mode. Once I got my business up and running again, I went to Thailand for a month. I knew that I was going to be moving to New York to work on a startup, so I wanted to enjoy a month in Thailand. When I got back to the USA, I moved to New York to work for a tech startup.Next, I want to work on being of more service to others. The biggest thing I can help people with is understanding the importance of learning as many skills as possible. Right now, due to the state of the world, most of us only have time. There is a lot of down time, and there are going to be people who come out of this further ahead, because they made use of that time. I want to help people help themselves by acquiring skills that can serve themselves and their community. What I learned... Most people don't hit their stride until their late 30sResilience is extremely importantThe market will always give you feedbackBeing a starving artist isn't great. You need to be thriving in order to be creative.Links A brief hisory of my story part 1 https://www.iwannabefamous.co/podcasts/a-brief-history-of-my-storyA brief hisory of my story part 2https://www.iwannabefamous.co/podcasts/a-brief-history-of-my-story-part-27 Laws of Mindful Living Book https://the7lawsofmindfulliving.comJoin The My Free Skills Community http://www.skillsfam.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

And why is it the con of the century? It is when the information coming in does not match what you already know and you don’t quite know how to process it. Example; Changes in what you have become accustomed to IE: restaurant storyA second definition is when you go through emotions in rapid succession and it leaves you vulnerable to influence beyond what you would normally allow. IE: A crowd being whipped up into a riotous frenzy. This is the one that I want to focus on although they are both very closely related. Experts, (which I am not one of) generally agree that there are 10 basic human emotions. 10 emotions Enjoyable: Happiness, Trust, Situational: Anticipation, Surprise, Not Enjoyable: Sadness, Anger, Loneliness, Jealousy, Fear, Disgust, I’m gonna tell a little story about how my bunkmate and myself got scammed out of all of our money while in SOI. See if you can spot the various emotions that we went through as the story unfolds. There is no greater con than to deliberately put someone on an emotional trip in order to manipulate them. And if by chance you discover that you are on an emotion trip, take a mental pause, you are about to be scammed. If you think I’m wrong, turn on the TV and watch the news for 15 minutes and see how you feel after that. Better yet watch the DNC or the RNC. Botha re running a national scam. In a matter of 3 minutes you will be pulled in all directions, angered, relieved, filled with pride, only to be disguised, and then here is a sob story and another moment of pride. It is a scam as old as religion, politics and trade. But they will never teach it to you in any organized educational system because to understand it is to take the power back, or at least keep your power where it belongs.

St Mary of Egypt On the 6th day of the Coptic month of Baramouda we celebrate the life of St Mary of Egypt. She began her life as a young woman who followed the passions of the body, running away from her parents at the age twelve, to the city of Alexandria. There she lived as a harlot for seventeen years, refusing money from the men that she copulated with, instead living by begging and spinning flax. One day, however, she met a group of young men heading toward the sea to sail to Jerusalem for the veneration of the Holy Cross. Mary went along for the ride, seducing the men as they traveled for the fun of it. But when the group reached Jerusalem and actually went towards the church, Mary was prohibited from entering by an unseen force. After three such attempts, she remained outside on the church patio, where she looked up and saw an icon of the Holy Theotokos. She began to weep and prayed with all her might that the Holy Mother might allow her to see the True Cross; afterwards, she promised, she would renounce her worldly desires and go wherever the St Mary may lead her. After this heart-felt conversion at the doors of the church, she fled into the desert to live as an ascetic. She survived for years on only three loaves of bread and thereafter on scarce herbs of the land. For another seventeen years, Mary was tormented by "wild beasts, mad desires and passions." After these years of temptation, however, she overcame them and was led by the Theotokos in all things. Following 47 years in solitude, she met the priest St. Zosima in the desert, who pleaded with her to tell him of her life. She recounted her story with great humility while also demonstrating her gift of clairvoyance; she knew who Zosima was and his life story despite never having met him before. Finally, she asked Zosima to meet her again the following year at sunset on Holy Thursday by the banks of the Jordan. Zosima did exactly this, though he began to doubt his experience as the sun began to go that night. Then Mary appeared on the opposite side of the Jordan; crossing herself, she miraculously walked across the water and met Zosima. When he attempted to bow, she rebuked him, saying that as a priest he was far superior, and furthermore, he was holding the Holy Mysteries. Mary then received communion and walked back across the Jordan after giving Zosima instructions about his monastery and that he should return to where they first met exactly a year later. When he did so, he found Mary's body with a message written on the sand asking him for burial and revealing that she had died immediately after receiving the Holy Mysteries the year before (and thus had been miraculously transported to the spot where she now lay). So Zosima, amazed, began to dig, but soon tired. A lion approached and began to help him, that is, after Zosima had recovered from his fear of the creature. Thus St. Mary of Egypt was buried. Zosima returned to the monastery, told all he had seen, and improved the faults of the monks and abbot there. He died at almost a hundred years old in the same monastery. Lessons from this storyA valuable lesson from this story is the truth that before God all are worthy, all are important and all are His chosen loved ones. Our roads in this life lead us far and wide, but the narrow gate to return is only through our heart’s desire to be with Christ, to serve Christ and to live as Christ.St Mary of Egypt lived naked in the desert wearing only the skin God gave her, nothing else. Hold this truth; you are loved deeply by the Lord Jesus Christ. And what the world will call suffering (the ascetic life of a monk in the harsh conditions of the desert) are in truth freedom to the soul that feeds on the loving kindness of Christ. Ask yourself, what is easier? The constant demands of this life pulling you in every direction at the same time from passion to the next? Or a simple life with Christ serving in His name? St Mary tasted both lives and found the one with Christ the sweeter.PrayerLord, help us see past the vile disguise of this world for what it is, empty and worthless without you. Help us see the importance of a life with you is eternal not temporary as this world is. Open our eyes each day that we may receive your daily bread and forgive us when we fall. Through the prayers of St Mary of Egypt be with us all, amen.

What happens when we fuse technology with storytelling? When we hack the brain in order to overcome fear, and ultimately influence how we experience the the world around us - through understanding the world within us? Our next guest refers to herself as a storyteller from the future. Karen Palmer is an Award Winning Multi-Disciplinary Immersive Filmmaker. Merging Film, Gaming, Technology and Neuroscience to create Emotionally Responsive Experiences.Karen's most notorious project - and the one that caught our attention - was created in 2016 when she created a film called Riot. Riot is an extraordinary fusion of tech and storytelling. It takes viewers through an immersive, 3D experience of an actual riot - the only difference being - through the use of AI, facial recognition and 3D technology - everything that happens is dictated by the emotions of the viewer. So each viewer has a unique experience of the RIOT - how the characters behave, whether the action slows down or speeds up. Based purely on how they emotionally respond to the story itself. In other words - how the film watches them.So why is that important - other than I believe being the method of storytelling we will all consider to be normal ten years from now. It’s important because it gives viewers a real time experience of how their own emotions and responses (often subconscious in the form of facial expressions and body language) significantly impact how they experience the world.Have you ever wondered how your internal stories - your internal narrative - about events, people, situations - impacts how the story of your life literally unfolds? If not, you should. It’s one of the most life (and influence) altering lines of exploration. And if you have - Karen’s work will blow your mind.In addition to RIOT - Karen is also a pioneer of ‘neurogaming’ (basically where immersive tech meets gaming). In which your mind once again becomes a remote control in an incredible experience that includes film, wearable technology and neuroscience. Think Fortnite on crack. Her works Syncself and Syncself 2 are live-action video games – the difference being that you interact with them by wearing an EEG headset on your brain, measuring your level of focus - and then adapting the game to reflect your state of mind back to you.And - as if this lady isn’t fascinating enough - she also merges her passion for cutting edge neuro-storytelling with her other passion - parkour. You’ve probably seen footage of parkor before - insanely agile people clambering up and leaping over urban walls, buildings and obstacles - all in one long continuous movement of gymnastics meets martial arts. What I didn’t know before this conversation - was the philosophy of mindfulness that sits behind it.Just like RIOT, Syncself and neuro-gaming - Karen uses this parkor as an immediate feedback loop - a way of a way to train her mind to stay in a state of total focus. Because let’s face it - there’s no immediate feedback loop more compelling than falling face first onto concrete. So - some of the topics we dove into in this conversation include: Why neuro-storytelling is the future - and how we can use it to build new neurological pathways in our brainHow seeing ourselves - our biases and triggers - reflected on the screen - will help us to take better control of our own livesWhy courage is simply a software download - and how to run an ‘erase and install’ on your own mindThe doors that this type of future storytelling opens for humanity. In particular how we teach empathy and accelerated leadership. Why we will soon be taking the leap from bio-hacking (think Fitbits - and the various other wearable technology now available) to brain-hackingAnd finally... why you never have to be the unwilling participant in someone else’s storyA conversation with Karen is a little like Parkour in itself. Leaping in and out of exhilarating topics, arcs and ideas - yet always with the same intention. Seeking to understand how the future of storytelling can (and will) not only revolutionise how we entertain and communicate important ideas. But also fundamentally change the role we consider ourselves to have - as continual writers of our own experience. So... grab yourself a coffee - or whatever your adrenaline kick of choice. And get ready to be mind blown. Many of you that have either listened before - or met me in any capacity - will know that I consider storytelling to be one of the most powerful tools of influence. This one takes it to a whole new level.Enjoy my conversation with the fascinating Karen Palmer. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The StoryA few years ago, I had the opportunity to write a sequel to one of my favourite movies. The movie didn’t quite work out, but I had some interesting and memorable experiences with the artists involved. This was my big break, but at the same time, it was an empty pursuit. Perhaps I flew too close to the sun?Paul’s PickI’m not saying that Hard Core Logo was the movie I wrote a rejected screenplay sequel to, it’s merely a coincidence.Hard Core Logo blew me away the first time I saw it. It’s a movie that is very much alive, each frame busting at the seams with realistic performances. It’s an oldy, but a goody.

The story I've never told about how I know you can recover from being suicidal and go on to live a happy life. Plus food tips to get you started to beat depression.Hi everybody, I'm Barbara Fernandez, the Rocking Raw Chef, here with my Clean Food, Dirty Stories: one to entertain, the other to inspire.I help people stamp out stress, depression and fatigue over at RockingRawChef.com, and today's title is:From Suicidal To SensationalIn addition to this story, at the end of this episode I'll share with you the best ways to use food to beat depression and help get your emotional life back on track.OK enough hints from me, let's get on with the story. It's a big one.My inspiration for this storyA very short time ago – last week in fact – I learned that one of my favorite rock singers ever, Chester Bennington, committed suicide. And I was pretty shaken for days afterwards – not because I was close to him, because I wasn't. I never actually met him, although I was fortunate enough to see him live in concert about ten days before he died. Not because I didn't love his singing, because I did. But because I thought to myself, 'If Chester had known what I know, maybe he wouldn't have had to die'.So Chester this episode is dedicated to you. As well as to anyone who is experiencing the kind of debilitating sadness that can end in a life ended way too soon.So that's why I'm sharing with you a very personal story that I've never shared before. I want to tell you exactly why I can help people who feel they're broken. People who feel so unhappy, that suicide looks like the only way out. And I'm sharing this because if this even helps one person listening, then it will be worth it.This story is about depression, and about how you can absolutely one hundred percent overcome it. How you can kick it to the curb so that it never darkens your door again. Yes you can beat depression and I will tell you how to start. The first time I was depressedThe first time I was very depressed that I can remember, I was about eight years old. All I remember is that I was sitting on the bed in my parents' room, holding my dad's revolver on my lap and wondering if I could pull the trigger. I must have seen TV shows with people shooting each other or something. I mean I don't know how else I could have known at such a young age how to use a gun. My dad never showed us how to use it. And I don't even remember how I knew the gun was in there. He must have taken it out at one point, I don't know. There's a lot from my childhood that I don't remember because although on the whole it was a happy childhood with travel and lots of animals and all kinds of very good things, parts of it were not so good. One event in particular when I was about three years old was blocked from my memory until many years later – but that's another story.Anyway I was sitting with this gun on my lap and obviously I didn't pull the trigger. But I can remember that I wanted to. I really wanted to – but I thought I wasn't brave enough. It took me many years actually to realize that by deciding not to pull the trigger was the brave decision. It takes a lot more courage to face your fears and try to move past them than it does to obliterate everything with a gun shot, a jump off a roof or whatever.Playing dolls house with a child psychiatristAt some point my parents took me to a child psychiatrist, because my teachers at school were worried about me. They were worried for good reason because I was crying all the time. At least, that's what they told me. I don't actually remember that, fortunately, but it must have been true. I mean, why would they lie, right? So I went to this child psychiatrist and we basically played with a dolls house for an hour and he'd talk to my parents afterwards. I remember him asking me to tell him about the relationships in the family. He'd ask things like, “What does the dad do when he comes home?” and “What does the little girl think about her brother?” That kind of stuff.I don't really remember if it brought any benefit, I mean it was good to have someone to talk to. But I didn't feel any different afterwards. The doctors told my mom that I had a 'chemical imbalance in the brain' and that it was kind of tough luck, really, because nothing much could be done apart from perhaps drugs. Then I discovered theaterThings gradually got a little bit better at school, mostly because I discovered theater. I found out that when I was performing on stage, everyone wanted to be my friend afterwards. It didn't last long – only as long as the run of the show. But still it was a start. And I don't remember any other big incidents with guns or anything. Just an overall sadness which at the time I'd channel into writing journals, as I imagine many teenagers do. I wrote a book as well – two books actually, one for children about a magical world, and one about a girl who ran away from home. I never tried publishing them, but I did enjoy writing. My life got gradually better when I made some really good friends in high school. I went to college, got a theater degree, still with rocky highs and lows in terms of mood swings though. For a while I thought I was probably manic-depressive or something, because that's what it felt like. I'd have huge highs and huge lows.Fast forward a few years, and I found myself in Paris, France. If you've been listening to this podcast you'll have heard about several of my adventures those first few years there. More are coming, by the way, just to let you know!Anyway I was working as a singing waitress slash coat check girl in a very bizarre but fancy French restaurant. I'll share more about that in another story – but for now let me say that at this time, I was having a pretty good time. Life wasn't perfect but I did have fun. However I was about to take a deep dive into my lowest low ever. But then along came the guy...And it started, as these things often do, with a guy. A very attractive, magnetic guy who to this day still carries a torch for me, as the saying goes. If I'm to believe his family. Anyway one night my friend – I'll call her Mabel – invited me to her sister's house for dinner on Christmas Eve.Now you have to know that dinner on Christmas Eve in France is a big deal. It goes on for hours and the food is of course amazing. We sat down to eat at about one in the afternoon and we didn't get up till about eleven at night. The amazing thing was that because each course was very light and we had breaks in between, I actually didn't feel overstuffed. I felt quite good. What made me feel even better though was that as soon as I sat down to the table with Mabel and her family, I saw the most gorgeous guy looking right at me. I'll call him Jean. Our eyes met and that was it. It was like being hit by lightning, like the world stopped and there was no-one else there but he and I. I imagine the rest of the family was like 'oh boy, here we go'. It was very obvious to everyone that there were some major fireworks shooting across the table.A whirlwind relationshipSo of course we wound up getting together. I think he called me the next day or something, I can't remember. What I can remember is that we had a bit of an intense, whirlwind kind of relationship. I went to his house and basically never left. We were together all the time, we were massively attracted to each other, and our physical relationship was amazing.Mabel's family were really happy about this, because they already knew me, and Jean was the son of my friend's sister's husband, if that makes sense. So it was like I was going to be part of Mabel's family, which was very cool. They could all see that it was pretty serious. And everything happened really quickly. Everyone took it for granted that we'd marry, have kids and all of that. We were that magnetised.A week into the relationship I went with him to the south of France to meet his parents as well as his daughter (from a previous relationship) who was I think about 8 or 10 years old at the time. His parents loved me, his daughter really took to me straight away - and I to her. All the family were doubly happy because Jean was a bit of a wild guy and they felt that I was the perfect person to...I don't know, bring him a bit of stability, I guess.A powerful connectionSo for those few weeks we had an incredible relationship. I felt like I'd finally met the guy for me, and all of that. Four weeks went by that felt like four days, and though that might not sound like a long time, sometimes that's all you need. When you have a strong connection with someone, you just know, right? Have you ever felt upon meeting someone that you just have this very powerful link to them somehow? That's what this was like, with of course all the romantic stuff thrown in. And the power of a very intense physical attraction too.The beginning of the endBut Jean had a real cruel streak. I didn't know how cruel until one night, literally in the middle of making love, he says to me that it's over. What timing, right? Sadistic, I call it. Well I remember feeling like my insides had suddenly frozen solid. The first thing I said was, “Why?”His response devastated me. It wasn't because he didn't love me, because he said that he did. He said that he loved me deeply. It wasn't because his family didn't get along with me, because they adored me. He actually said, “Because I'm not a good person. I'm not good enough for you, and you deserve someone deeper than me who will be true to you and love you the way you deserve to be loved. I'm just not a good person and I'll only end up hurting you and you deserve better”.Well, I was devastated. He was basically breaking up with me because I was a good person. In his last relationship before me, he'd had affairs, and he was telling me that he couldn't be the good kind of man that I needed. It was because he loved me so much that he was breaking up with me.The suicide attemptI didn't know what to do – I cried, I pleaded, I told him I loved him, but he wouldn't change his mind. So I thought, 'I can't take this. This is just too much'. I went to the kitchen to get a knife, took it to the bathroom – this was the middle of the night – and I used it on both my wrists. It didn't hurt – I found out later that if you're in a bad enough state, you feel no pain. I can remember that it was harder to draw blood than I thought so I had to do it several times. And my intention was very clear. It wasn't to die, although I definitely wanted to die in that moment. My main thoughts were something like, 'This will get his attention, he'll see how I can't live without him. And everyone else will see how I really need help and I need it NOW. This will get them to take me seriously'. Now when I think of it I cringe, but at the time that's how I was feeling. I was desperate. He came running into the bathroom of course, probably totally freaked out, and he called Mabel who came and got me. I won't say all the details, but the short version is that I wound up in the hospital for two weeks, on antidepressants and seeing a psychiatrist daily and all that. That experience was something else, which I'll probably talk about in another episode. Is depression hereditary?I later found out that several family members of mine – I won't say who – had tried to kill themselves. One went up onto a rooftop and almost jumped, but fortunately they called someone who talked them out of it. The other, well I know they didn't die but that's all I know. And there were others who were severely depressed on and off for pretty much their whole lives, but again I don't know the details. All I do know is that I was told that depression is hereditary. You know, that it's in your genes so you can't help it. But you know what? I don't have it anymore even though it started when I was small, and although it was throughout my family since they were small, my kids are now teenagers and neither of them have it. Ha! It stops now, and it stops with me.What happened to JeanBut before I tell you how it stops with me, I want to briefly share what happened with Jean. He never came to see me in the hospital – well, no-one came, I think they weren't allowed – and when things got really bad for me I went to the states for a while. And wouldn't you know that Jean then wanted me back. I could literally feel him calling me from France. After a few months in the States, I did feel that I needed to go back to France and finish things up, tie up loose ends, as it were. And I did go back with Jean for a very short time, but by then so much had happened that I just couldn't make it work. I remember him picking me up from the airport and me thinking, 'Hmmm, this doesn't feel right anymore'. My trust had been broken, as you can well imagine. So I wound up leaving Jean, although I'm still in contact with Mabel. Which is how I know that even today Jean still carries a torch for me. I got under his skin and he's never forgotten me. To be fair, I haven't forgotten him either, though perhaps not quite for the same reasons. Even Jean's daughter, who only met me once as a child and is in her early twenties now, has reached out to me and wants to see me.I am going to try and see her, because none of this was her fault. Mabel told me that I was probably the first person who really saw her when she was a child, who really connected with her in a way that other people hadn't. So I do owe it to her to go and see her.Would you know this about me if you met me?Now the reason I'm sharing this story with you is because if you look at my website, or if you've met me in person, you would never know that I was once that depressed. I'm usually described as bubbly and bouncy and all of that. You'd know that I'm a rock singer, that I like to have fun, that I'm a bit zany and that I jump all over the place. You'd know that I like to laugh and see the crazy side of life. But you'd never know that I had once really wanted to die. When I was told by doctors all those years ago that I had a chemical imbalance in the brain and that there was no cure as such, I believed them. But I am living proof that you can overcome depression. You can beat depression. The question of course that you might be asking is how?Well, I tried a lot of different things but there was one thing that really worked consistently. Two things actually. But first what didn't work. Or to be more exact, the things that worked to an extent but that didn't quite eradicate depression in the way that I needed.Talking therapyFirst I tried 'talking therapy', as in traditional psychotherapy. That was awful, I really didn't like that. I had a friend who had been having that kind of therapy for years and she never changed. Now I'm not saying this can't work for some people because I believe it can. I'm sure there are some excellent psychotherapists out there. It's just that it didn't work for me, and I saw several people. It was great to have someone to talk to, but I felt like all of the soul-searching and navel-gazing wasn't really solving the problem for me.Again, that's just me and it might be perfect to help someone else. I'm just saying that it didn't provide me with a long-term solution. It didn't wipe out depression like my final solution did.Antidepressant drugsI also tried drugs. Those were awful, it felt like living in a ball of cotton. You didn't get as sad, that's true, but you didn't get as happy either. It was like you couldn't feel any extremes of emotion, everything was muffled. I really didn't like that, although when I was in such a bad state that I couldn't think clearly or function, yes in that instance it was helpful to be a bit numbed. So again, drugs are something that can help some people, but for me it was a short-term thing that didn't lead to any lasting change. They just kind of protected me from myself for a while and enabled me to function in a zombie-like kind of way.HypnotherapyI then tried hypnotherapy. That was interesting actually, because I discovered a very traumatic event that happened to me as a small child – which as I said earlier is another story. Hypnotherapy was very useful for uncovering hidden events so that I could understand some of the thoughts I'd had throughout my life. But once I'd discovered those events, it didn't help me deal with what I'd call the 'fallout'. We repress certain events for a reason, and I didn't get the help I needed to deal with what I now knew to be true. However this may have just been because of the practitioner that I saw. I do know that hypnotherapy can be very useful for some people, and there are some skilled practitioners out there. So again, I think it could be very beneficial with the right person, but it didn't really help me feel better. It just helped me uncover certain events that were responsible for me having such a poor body image as a child.Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)I did some CBT, short for cognitive behavioral therapy. CBT is incredible actually and for me was the next best thing to my number one solution that I'll mention in a minute. What I liked about CBT was that it helped me uncover limiting beliefs that I had about myself. That was very useful. It didn't help with everything, but it definitely put me on the right track and I'm very grateful to the excellent practitioner that I had.Neurolinguistic programming (NLP)This was probably my number two solution. In a way even better than CBT because it really helped not only uncover limiting beliefs, but also smash those beliefs and replace them with better ones. I think for me, this in combination with the best solution which I'll mention below is the best way I know of effecting big changes in a short space of time.Compared to talking therapies, I found NLP to be a huge shortcut to personal development. So I do highly recommend it, but with a skilled practitioner of course. Somebody that you resonate with, that's very important. And it's even more powerful if you combine it with my number one best solution, which will come as no surprise to those of you who know me.The best solution: one I didn't know I hadThe best solution for me was one that I actually didn't even know I had. It came about when I got into making and eating a lot of raw food, which was about sixteen years ago now. Basically what happened was that one day, I think it was about ten years after I'd started exploring raw food, I woke up one morning and thought, 'hey I haven't been really sad in a very long time!' Like years and years. I mean, I still do get upset and frustrated like we all do sometimes. I may have the odd time of a bit of sadness, but it's normal and I can choose to stay in that state or move out of it. It's no longer the debilitating, can't-get-out-of-bed-all-day thing that I used to experience. And when I started researching the properties of food as I was writing blog articles, I made lots of discoveries. I discovered that raw food is actually amazing for changing...guess what? Your brain chemistry! All this time – before my raw food days – I'd been looking for solutions in therapies, in outside modalities...when the biggest help could have come simply from changing what was on my plate.Chemical substances and 'brain addiction'I also discovered that our emotions actually secrete chemical substances that go directly into the brain. I'm going to repeat that because it's important. Our emotions secrete chemical substances that go directly into the brain. And we get used to those substances as if they were addictive drugs.I'm really gonna simplify here, OK? Because I don't think using fancy words is going to help – I want to give you the principle behind what happens so that you can use it immediately. Especially if you know anyone who is depressed. So if you're in the habit of feeling sad, your brain gets addicted to those 'sad chemicals' that it receives on a daily basis. If you stop feeling sad, without the right support – be it nutritional or otherwise - you can experience a kind of withdrawal from those chemicals. And this can be a strong unconscious drive to experience more sadness so that your brain can get another hit of the chemicals it's used to! That is huge! The good newsThe good news is that the same goes for happiness, or other emotional states. That's why people say they get 'hooked' to adrenalin rushes. So you get people who are always looking for ways of getting another adrenalin rush, whether it's through going on scary rides, doing skydiving, bungee jumping etc. Their brain is used to that rush and it wants more! The other good news is that there are additional ways of changing your brain chemistry to a more positive one, for want of a better term. There are way too many to list here, but think of things like meditation, EFT (short for Emotional Freedom Technique, also called tapping) and other things.I'll talk more about these in future episodes. But for now, let me give you a few amazing food tips to get you started. And these by the way are good for everyone, depressed or not.How to start to beat depression with foodSo, I mentioned at the beginning of this episode that I'd share with you the best ways to start to beat depression. There are several tips here, and they all work together. Some of them are big ones, but if you or anyone you know is suffering, these can really make a difference.First tip: Scrap the junk foodJunk food messes with your brain chemistry like nothing else. You can't start to feel happier if you're ingesting e-numbers, additives, preservatives and other chemicals. Those substances are NOT meant to make you feel great. Some are preservatives and some are put in food to make you addicted to it so that you want to eat more and more of it.Junk food is meant to be thrown away. Not to be eaten. If you want to feel better, you can't be eating junk. Period.Second tip: Avoid processed foodsProcessed foods also contain a lot of chemicals, preservatives and other non-food substances which don't do your brain any favors. Make your food yourself, or buy it freshly made. Whether it's raw or cooked. If you really can't make your own food, food that's freshly made – even if it's in a restaurant – is better than frozen ready meals and that kind of stuff.Third tip: Avoid sugar, wheat and dairyThese foods are big ones for messing with your brain power. Not only do they mess with your brain, but they mess with your gut...which is your abdominal brain. Your gut is directly linked to your brain. Our gut produces dozens of neurotransmitters – aka the 'feel good' substances that we need to feel great. Things like serotonin, dopamine and other secretions are crucial to both mental and physical health. I've written more about serotonin and dopamine in the blog and I will link to that in the show notes. Last tip: Eat lots of brain foodPrioritize foods that you know are really ramping up your brain power. If you need to know what those are, I've written extensively about that on the blog, I will link to that as well. And you can also get yourself a handy pdf printout for your fridge from my website and I will link to that too.The last thing that I'll say about this is if you do change your eating habits to start to feel better, you can at first start to feel a bit tired, headachy, things like that. Those are signs of detox, those are signs that the bad stuff is being excreted from your body. It's leaving your body and you just need to drink more water. I'll also link to an article that I wrote about detox so that you can know what you might expect and what to do about it. The main thing is you've got to get that junk out and the good stuff in.There's loads more I could say on this topic and I will in future episodes. But for now though, the last thought I'd like to leave you with is this: If you know anyone who suffers from depression, please share this episode! Let them know that there are solutions! Depression isn't forever, it really isn't.And if you know anyone in desperate need of someone to talk to, I'll put links to hotlines as well.If you'd like some of the recipes that I myself used to beat depression, I'll post the link to my recipe ebooks in the show notes for this episode. Have YOU got a story to share?Which brings us to the end of this week's story – and if you've got a true story to share (and you'd like to know what food could have saved the day or enhanced your particular situation), I'd love to hear from you!Got a question, or a comment?Got a question, or a comment? The StoryA few weeks ago, I shared this story at the monthly event, Stories We Don’t Tell. Recorded live off the floor, the story is told in three parts and is about indifferent pedestrians, an altercation at an outdoor skating rink and meeting someone at the theatre who coincidentally has the same shirt as me. As with each story, there is a winner and a loser. Who wins and who loses might be a surprise. It’s a mad, mad world out there, take care of yourselves.Paul’s PickI thought the Missing Richard Simmons Podcast was scripted when I first heard about it. It’s very real. You know Richard Simmons, pretty much everyone does. He disappeared from public view three years ago and amid wild speculation, he refuses to talk to anyone. The host, a friend of Richard’s, tries to figure out what happened. It’s a true life mystery story that has quite a depth of humanity.
