Top Stories for January 27th Publish Date: January 27th PRE-ROLL: GCPS From the BG AD Group Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Tuesday, January 27th and Happy Birthday to Bobby Blue Band I’m Peyton Spurlock and here are your top stories presented by KIA Mall of Georgia. Gwinnett County Police to host local hiring event Winter storm knocks out power to thousands of Gwinnett homes Parkview grad Quincy Bryant turns NIL experience into financial lifeline for college athletes All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: KIA Mall Of Ga - Sugar Hill Ice Skating Rink Final STORY 1: Gwinnett County Police to host local hiring event Thinking about joining the Gwinnett County Police Department? Here’s your chance—they’re hosting a hiring event on Feb. 6 (3–8 p.m.) and Feb. 7 (8 a.m.–3 p.m.). First things first: submit an application before the event. Once you do, an investigator will call to schedule your appointment. No appointment? You can still show up, but expect a longer wait. And no, you don’t need to attend both days. The process isn’t quick—it can take hours—so plan ahead. Phase I includes orientation, a physical agility test, an interview, a psych exam, and a background check. If you qualify, you might walk away with a conditional job offer. What’s in it for you? A starting salary between $55,923 and $86,090, a 10% hiring bonus, annual raises, and education incentives (up to 6% for a degree). Night Watch officers even get a 5% shift differential. Requirements? Be 21 by academy graduation, have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and be eligible for P.O.S.T. certification. Ready to apply? Visit GwinnettPoliceJobs.com. STORY 2: Winter storm knocks out power to thousands of Gwinnett homes Winter Storm Fern wreaked havoc in Gwinnett County, leaving more than 10,000 residents without power as of Sunday afternoon. Georgia Power reported that, by 5:30 p.m., 9,741 of its customers in the county were in the dark. Peachtree Corners was hit hardest, with 3,120 outages, followed by Berkley Lake and Duluth (1,729), southwest Lawrenceville (1,797), and another 905 near State Route 316. Walton EMC wasn’t spared either—1,771 customers were without power by 5 p.m. The biggest cluster? Along Five Forks Trickum Road, where 767 homes were affected. Jackson EMC also reported 1,067 outages, with 892 concentrated in Lawrenceville. STORY 3: Parkview grad Quincy Bryant turns NIL experience into financial lifeline for college athletes College athletes are making serious money these days, thanks to NIL deals and revenue sharing. But here’s the thing—most of them don’t know what to do with it. Some have advisors, sure, but plenty don’t. Quincy Bryant, a former Parkview football star and Wake Forest standout, saw it all firsthand. Unlike many, he had a plan. While still in college, he invested his NIL earnings, bought a house, and rented it to teammates. Word spread, and soon, everyone was asking him for financial advice. That’s how Final Whistle Wealth was born. Alongside his former teammate Trent Nicholson, Bryant launched the company to help athletes manage their money and plan for life after sports. They started small—one-on-one sessions, then classes—and eventually built a full program with support from Wake Forest’s Startup Lab. Now, they’re developing an app to make budgeting and financial planning easier for athletes. For more, check out www.finalwhistlewealth.com. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back Break 2: Ingles Markets 7 STORY 4: Gwinnett County to host Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Feb. 7 Got old bug spray, paint cans, or that half-empty bottle of weed killer sitting in your garage? You’re not alone. The EPA calls this stuff “household hazardous waste”—basically, anything that can catch fire, explode, corrode, or poison. And no, you can’t just toss it in the trash or pour it down the drain (seriously, don’t). Georgia’s Environmental Protection Division warns that doing so can pollute groundwater, lakes, and streams. That’s where Gwinnett County’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day comes in. Since 2018, this biannual event has made it easier for residents to safely ditch their hazardous junk. The first event of 2026 is happening Saturday, Feb. 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds in Lawrenceville. Accepted items include spray pesticides, auto fluids, batteries, paint, propane cylinders, and even cooking oil. Not accepted? Ammunition, fireworks, electronics, or biohazard waste. Residents can bring up to five containers of waste for free. For details, visit www.GwinnettCB.org or call 770-822-5187. STORY 5: Gwinnett Grads Julian Ashby, Jared Ivey headed to Super Bowl LX Gwinnett County’s got a guaranteed Super Bowl champ this year, no matter what happens on February 8. Why? Two hometown rookies—Parkview’s Julian Ashby and North Gwinnett’s Jared Ivey—are heading to the big game. Ashby’s Patriots edged out the Broncos 10-7 in a snowy AFC Championship, while Ivey’s Seahawks outlasted the Rams 31-27 for the NFC title. Ashby, a 23-year-old long snapper, was flawless in the storm. Drafted in the seventh round by New England, he’s the first long snapper picked since 2021. Before that? Four solid years at Furman and a standout season at Vanderbilt. Ivey, meanwhile, fought his way onto Seattle’s roster as an undrafted free agent. The 6-foot-6 linebacker didn’t play in the NFC Championship but made his mark at Ole Miss with 125 tackles and 16 sacks after transferring from Georgia Tech. No matter who wins, Gwinnett’s streak of Super Bowl champs—now four years running—stays alive. We’ll be right back. Break 3: EAGLE THEATRE Gentleman’s Guide STORY 6: Dr. William Foege, leader in smallpox eradication, dies Dr. William Foege, the towering figure—literally and figuratively—behind the eradication of smallpox, has passed away at 89. He died Saturday in Atlanta, according to the Task Force for Global Health, which he co-founded. At 6-foot-7, Foege was hard to miss, but it was his brilliance and calm determination that truly set him apart. A former CDC director in the late ’70s and early ’80s, he spent his life battling infectious diseases and reshaping global health. His crowning achievement? Smallpox. In the 1960s, while working as a medical missionary in Nigeria, Foege pioneered the “ring containment” strategy—vaccinating only those in contact with infected individuals. It was a bold, resourceful move born out of necessity (there wasn’t enough vaccine to go around). And it worked. By 1980, the World Health Organization declared smallpox eradicated, saving hundreds of millions of lives. STORY 7: State House to operate minus one member after suspension from office The Georgia General Assembly is down yet another lawmaker this session—this time, it’s State Rep. Sharon Henderson, who’s been suspended after a federal indictment. Governor Brian Kemp signed the suspension Thursday, following a committee’s decision that Henderson’s charges “adversely affect” her ability to serve. She’s accused of two counts of theft of government funds and 10 counts of making false statements tied to federal unemployment benefits during the pandemic. Her case? It’s not moving fast—pretrial’s set for Feb. 19. Meanwhile, former Rep. Karen Bennett, resolved similar charges quickly, pleading guilty to fraudulently claiming $13,940 in pandemic relief. Kemp, required by the state constitution, appointed a review committee for Henderson’s case, including Attorney General Chris Carr, Rep. Jan Jones, and Sen. Harold Jones II. Their findings led to her suspension. With several legislative seats still vacant, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is scheduling special elections, including one for Bennett’s seat on March 10. Returning to his horror roots, Raimi delivers a relentless, fast-paced nightmare that's as funny as it is horrifying. The film follows ambitious loan officer Christine Brown (Alison Lohman – Big Fish, Matchstick Men), whose life spirals into terror after she denies an extension to an elderly woman, Mrs. Sylvia Ganush (Lorna Raver – They, Carnivàle). In retaliation, Ganush places a horrifying curse on Christine, condemning her to three days of escalating supernatural torment before being literally dragged to Hell. As Christine desperately searches for a way to break the curse, she's supported by her skeptical boyfriend Clay Dalton (Justin Long – Jeepers Creepers, Accepted), whose disbelief only heightens the film's tension and tragic irony. Homeschool Mama Self-Care: Turning Challenges into Charms
Unexpected Feelings When Your Homeschooler Gets Accepted to University

Homeschool Mama Self-Care: Turning Challenges into Charms

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 23, 2026 15:24

Today, my homeschooler gets accepted to university—his preferred program for the fall, engineering at the University of Victoria. That sentence should read like pure celebration. And it is. But the truth? This moment arrived carrying far more than simple joy. What Even Are These Feelings? From a woman who transacts in emotions, who holds other women’s emotions, who speaks on emotional regulation every day—I’m not sure what these feelings even are. Elation. Anticipation. Excitement. Pride. Gratefulness. Sadness that this day has finally arrived. He’s my baby. My youngest. My last. All the feels wrapped up in tears and hugs and the quiet ache of knowing that a long season of life is shifting once more. Sometimes the most honest thing we can say isn’t “I feel happy” or “I feel sad.” Sometimes it’s simply: This is a lot. And I’m letting myself feel all of it. This is the work I do with women every day—helping them listen inward, honour what’s real, and trust their emotional experience rather than trying to tidy it up into something more presentable. Today, I’m practicing what I teach. When a Homeschooler Gets Accepted to University Once upon a time, I saw my son play with Legos for a decade. I watched him tinker with small machines. Build furniture. Try to understand why things weren’t working, then unbuild blenders and computers to figure them out. Then learn how to build a computer himself. I watched him understand the strategy behind chess and play—and win—against others decades older than him. Watched him crack the code behind all sorts of games. And I watched him fall in love with physics. From Usborne books when he was seven, to university-level physics and math classes when he was fifteen. When I asked him if the workload of those classes was just too much—because they really are exceptionally a lot—he acknowledged that yes, they are. But he really loves learning these things. The proof? He’s self-motivated. And he keeps trying to capture my raptured fascination with his stories from math and physics classes. Today, that same child was accepted into engineering at the University of Victoria. And in just a few months, he’ll have a hefty ride to class every day for the next five years—because the university is ten hours away. (And of course, he can’t leave home to do that;) The Long Arc of Homeschool Motherhood If I’m honest, there were moments I could have marked a calendar and begun a private countdown to this season—the season where the last child begins to leave. Culturally, we talk about this as a milestone. The “empty nest.” The transition. Or just a rite of passage. But for me, this isn’t about cultural narratives. This is about the truth that I always wanted to be a mother. Not just a mother, but a present one. An engaged one. A mother who chose to build a life that allowed me to be with my children fully—especially through homeschooling. A mother who wanted to savour the days, even the hard ones. Homeschooling has never been easy. It has been meaningful, beautiful, stretching, exhausting, sacred work. There are days when you question everything: Am I doing enough? Am I missing something important? Perhaps I am failing my kids without realising it? Why does this feel so hard when I care so deeply? If you’ve homeschooled—or even deeply parented—you know this interior dialogue well. When Motherhood Becomes More Than Motherhood In my work with homeschool moms, I see another layer often present beneath the surface. Many women I walk alongside did not experience secure, emotionally safe childhoods. They grew up unsure of whether they were truly seen, heard, understood, or emotionally prioritized. Other people’s emotions took up most of the space in their homes. Their own needs were minimized, dismissed, or simply overlooked. Then they become mothers. And suddenly, motherhood becomes not just a role—but a mission. A redemption story. A chance to finally do it differently. To create the childhood they themselves needed. To pour in everything they never received. That depth of investment can be profoundly beautiful. It can also be incredibly heavy. You carry the invisible weight of wanting to get it right. You want your children to feel safe, known, cherished. And of course, you want to protect them from harm. And you want to give them every opportunity. You want to ensure that your love translates into their lifelong well-being. So when people casually suggest, “You should get a hobby for when your kids leave,” it often misses the point entirely. This was never just a phase of life. This was your life. When Your Homeschooler Gets Accepted to University — and Actually Leaves You hear it all along: They grow up so fast. One day they’ll leave. You nod. You know it intellectually. But then the first one leaves. And it’s not theoretical anymore. Then the second. Then the third. And suddenly you find yourself here, watching your homeschooler get accepted to university and prepare to take his next steps away from home. All those years of homeschooling, of conversations, of car rides, of frustration and laughter and connection and doubt and persistence—they weren’t wasted. They were forming something. All those years of allowing him to follow his curiosity—from Legos to blenders to computers to physics—weren’t indulgent. They were equipping a human being to live his life on purpose. My husband said it beautifully today: Today we celebrate. We celebrate his effort, his capacities, the interests he pursued, the time we gave him to develop them, and the ways we were able to support him to get here. And I would add this: We celebrate with gratitude for the life entrusted to us. For the child we were given. For the journey we were allowed to walk together. Yesterday, We Brought Home a Healthy Baby There is another layer to this story that makes today feel even more sacred. When Zachary was born, he was rushed into the NICU. His colour wasn’t right. Tests were run. We waited, we watched, and we prayed. For several days, uncertainty was ours—until finally the echocardiogram confirmed that nothing was wrong with his heart. Nothing was wrong with his heart. I still hold the weight of that sentence. When he was permitted, my husband held him skin to skin for hours—this tiny, vulnerable, beautiful baby: 22 inches long, 8 pounds 7 ounces of brand-new life. We drove home three days later than expected. But we drove home with our healthy baby. Our fourth child. Our first son. My husband had suggested the name Zachary years before—even before we were engaged. He’d always loved that name. And when we anticipated our fourth child, we hoped we would be able to raise a son. We were given a little boy. And we named him Zachary. “God has remembered.” It feels like yesterday we brought him home. And now—in what feels like the very next day—we are planning to drive him to university. That same child, now standing over six feet tall, solid and capable, preparing to move ten hours away to study engineering. The name we gave him carries weight I couldn’t have fully understood then. The Truth Beneath the Success Story It would be easy to turn this into a polished success narrative: “Look, homeschooling works. Look at the outcome.” But that’s not the real story. The real story is this: We didn’t homeschool perfectly. I doubted myself often. We adjusted constantly and made mistakes. We learned alongside our kids. However, we learned to prioritize connection over performance. Also, we allowed space for interests to emerge rather than forcing rigid paths. We let him play with Legos for a decade—even when well-meaning voices suggested it was time to move on to “more serious” pursuits. And we let him take apart blenders and computers—even when it meant occasionally having broken appliances scattered across the dining room table. We supported him taking university-level courses at fifteen—even when the workload seemed overwhelming—because he loved it. Because he kept coming home eager to share what he’d learned. And somehow, through all of that imperfect, earnest, committed living—we arrived here. Not with children who followed identical paths, but with young adults who know themselves, who can think critically, who are willing to take responsibility for their lives. That matters more to me than any transcript ever could. For the Mom Who Is Still in the Thick of It If you’re reading this while surrounded by math worksheets, sibling tension, unfinished laundry, and self-doubt, I want you to hear this gently: You are not failing because this is hard, and you are not doing it wrong because you feel overwhelmed, and you are not behind because your journey looks different. The work you’re doing is slow, invisible, relational work. It doesn’t produce instant metrics. It shapes hearts, minds, resilience, identity, and belonging—over time. When your child spends hours on something that seems frivolous—Legos, Minecraft, taking things apart—you’re not wasting their education. You may be nurturing the very curiosity that will one day lead them to their calling. When they want to dive deep into subjects that feel advanced or “too much”—and you worry about the workload—trust their intrinsic motivation. If they love it, if they’re self-driven, you’re witnessing passion, not pressure. And one day, often much faster than you expect, you may find yourself watching your homeschooler get accepted to university, looking back in awe at the human beings who emerged from your care. You may feel joy, and grief, and pride. You may feel disoriented. And you may feel everything all at once. That would be normal. Why I Continue This Work This is why I continue to walk alongside homeschool moms. Not because I believe homeschooling is a panacea — it’s not. Home education can not promise you flawless outcomes. But because I believe in supporting women as whole humans while they raise whole humans. Because motherhood deserves more than survival mode. Homeschool families deserve emotional support, not just academic strategy. Because women deserve space to explore their identity beyond holding their homes, their families, their worlds together — that invisible load of motherhood. And because sometimes, the greatest evidence that your work mattered isn’t found in awards or accolades—but in the momentous realization that your child is ready to live their own life. Even if that life is ten hours away. Today, I celebrate Zachary. And I honour every mother who has poured herself into the sacred, exhausting, beautiful work of raising humans who will one day leave. And when they tell you that they are going to grow up, when they tell you they want to apply to university, say the words that only you will know are exactly the right words for that moment: just say NO. (Oh, I mean, celebrate with them, celebrate yourself too, all that you’ve done!) Congratulations, Zach. We are so very proud of you. You're not rejected. You're accepted. Permanently. In this message, we unpack one of the most freeing truths of the gospel: you are accepted in the Beloved. Not because of what you've done—but because of who you're in. Discover why identity starts with God, how adoption changes everything, and how God doesn't love you by looking at you, but by looking at Jesus. This message exposes the lie of rejection, heals the wounds of trauma, and calls you out of isolation into belonging. If you've ever felt unseen, unworthy, or spiritually homeless, this one is for you. Accepted. Adopted. Beloved.

How to Start a Webcomic in 2026

Comic Lab

Starting a webcomic in 2026 isn't about chasing algorithms or copying what's popular — it's about building something sustainable, creative, and yours. In this episode, Brad Guigar and Dave Kellett break down what new cartoonists actually need to focus on in their first years: writing first, consistency over hype, owning your work, and building an audience the right way. You'll learn why you don't need Webtoon or Tapas, why monetizing too early can derail your career, how social media really fits into comics growth today, and why a website and mailing list are non-negotiable. This is a marathon mindset episode for creators who want to do comics for the long haul — and do them for love.Getting off on the Right FootDon't try to “game” your readership. Write about what YOU like. Readers are drawn to a creator's passion. It doesn't work the other way around.Building readership takes time and consistency. Creating for love is essential in the early years.Focus on writing as the core of comic creation. They're called comics readers, not comics lookers. It's all about the writing.Focus on creating comics for the love of the craft. The first comics may only be seen by you; embrace the process.Mistakes in the early stages are recoverable. Stop fretting over them.Common copyright fears and how to approach themOwn and control your workBuilding an audienceYou do NOT need to be on Webtoon/Tapas. Look at the comics on the front pages of those sites? Does your comic look like those? Is your content similar? If not, you're not going to fare well there. It's pretty obvious.Social media presence is still important for comic creators. Today, we recommend Bluesky and Reddit. ComicLab has Collections that provide solid social-media strategies. They're free to members and available at a one-time fee for others.Be active on social media to build your audience. Follow the Four Cs — Creation, Curation, Commercial, and KindnessHow many updates? FCS — Frequent / Consistent / Significant — there are no magic numbers.Start building your mailing list NOW with a newsletter. This will be increasingly important when you turn to monetization in a few years. You should send every comic out in a newsletter post and you should also post a weekly newsletter of no longer than 500 words per update with BTS content (to the extent you're comfortable sharing). You need a website. This is not old or outdated — it's incredibly powerful, and you need to start planning for one now… even if it's a very bare-bones site. This is a non-negotiable.Consider The 2-2-1 Rule: Two social media platforms, two newsletters (including a free-membership tier on Patreon), one website. Then, use these together to funnel traffic inward towards the website. Later, when you've launched monetization, the funnel will direct towards that.Don't listen to your reader; listen to your readersDon't mistake social media followers for income.MonetizationDON'T START MONETIZING IN YOUR FIRST YEAR. Maybe not even the second. Everything you need to know about crowdfunding is in the name. First comes the crowd, THEN comes the funding. In the first few years, you need to focus on building that crowd. The only thing worse than having no Patreon backers is having ONE Patreon backer. Hundreds of new comic creators have become derailed by focusing on monetization too soon.Comic Cons: We don't recommend them. They don't build audience. They don't have great sales unless you have a lot of merch that *does well as in-person merch* (there's a difference!). And it's very hard to make profit unless you can religiously control costs. If you're making merch to go to the show, you're doing this all wrong. Psychologically, a lot of folks like to “play” professional cartoonist by exhitibiting.Accepted into show start making stuff to sell.Start planning now for print — hi-res (400+ dpi),  bigger than final size, cmyk, maintain layers, etc. Save in the native software.Marathon thinkingPersistence is key; it's a marathon, not a sprint. If you need a schedule to post regularly, set a schedule and stick to it.Develop your aesthetic by studying good comics.Seek honest feedback to improve your work.Reach out to other comics creators who are doing stuff that's similar to yours and build networks. You get great rewards when you join the ComicLab Community on Patreon$2 — Early access to episodes$5 — Submit a question for possible use on the show AND get the exclusive ProTips podcast. Plus $2-tier rewards. If you'd like a one-on-one consultation about your comic, book it now!Brad Guigar is the creator of Evil Inc and the author of The Webcomics Handbook. Have an episode suggestion? Text us!In this episode, Matt and Paige move through three conversations that are deeply connected and hard to ignore once you see them clearly.First, we talk about red flags that get mislabeled as “just the addiction.” Weaponized vows, religious guilt, control, degradation, chronic blame-shifting, intimidation, and verbal abuse are not substance issues. They are values issues. Next, we address fear, especially the anxiety that comes with co-parenting and letting go of outcomes you cannot control. If you have ever asked, “How do I make this feeling stop?” the answer may be uncomfortable. You do not avoid fear, you move through it. We break down why uncertainty feels unbearable, why repetition matters, and how clarity around your values changes everything. Finally, Matt shares a raw realization that has been weighing on him. The more stories we hear, the clearer it becomes how rare real accountability and growth actually are and how low the bar has been set. We talk honestly about why that is heartbreaking, why it should not be normal, and how accepting less than you deserve keeps people stuck. This episode is not about telling you what to do. It is about helping you see what is actually happening so you can decide what you are willing to tolerate, protect yourself and your kids, and stop confusing hope with endurance. If you are a man listening and this episode hits, Matt would genuinely love to hear from you at matt@twfocouple.comFind video clips and full length video from this episode on YouTube and our other social media pages! On the web:www.twfo.comSupport the Show:Buy Us a Coffee!Online Program: www.independentlystrong.comSoberlink Device:www.soberlink.com/wheelsCheck out our blog:https://twfo.com/blogFollow us on TikTok:https://tiktok.com/@twfo_coupleFollow us on Instagram:https://instagram.com/twfo_couple/Follow us on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/TWFOCoupleFollow us on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@twfo_coupleFind Taylor Counseling Group:https://taylorcounselinggroup.com/Donate to Counseling for the Future Foundation:Donate Here

Top Stories for January 10th Publish Date: January 10th PRE-ROLL: Kia Mall of Georgia From the BG AD Group Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Saturday, January 10th and Happy Birthday to Rod Stewart I’m Peyton Spurlock and here are your top stories presented by Gwinnett KIA Mall of Georgia. Affordability a top concern as lawmakers prepare for Georgia legislative session Srim Academy to host series of free seminars for young parents Christkindl Market drove 77% increase in downtown Lawrenceville visitors All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: EAGLE THEATRE STORY 1: Affordability a top concern as lawmakers prepare for Georgia legislative session When Georgia lawmakers head back to the Capitol next week, it’s all about affordability—or at least that’s the plan. House Speaker Jon Burns isn’t mincing words: “We’re laser-focused on making life affordable,” he said Wednesday, pointing a finger at property taxes for crushing the dream of homeownership. “For too many families, it’s slipping out of reach. We’ve got to fix that.” Meanwhile, Senate Republicans are eyeing income taxes. A committee led by Sen. Blake Tillery wants to nix the 5.19% tax for individuals earning under $50,000 (or $100,000 for couples) and eventually scrap it altogether by 2032. But affordability isn’t just about taxes. Rising medical costs? A mess. The end of federal health insurance subsidies? A looming crisis. Burns says the House will tackle health care, focusing on keeping doctors in Georgia by expanding residency programs. STORY 2: Srim Academy to host series of free seminars for young parents Srim Academy, a Montessori school in Norcross, is kicking off a series of free seminars for young parents—because, let’s face it, parenting is hard. Topics? Everything from potty training and screen time battles to fostering independence and getting kids to actually move their bodies. The first session, “Fostering Your Child’s Independence: Lemonade, Ladybugs and Learning,” happens Saturday, Jan. 31, at 10:30 a.m. at 5511 Williams Road. Expect 90 minutes of practical advice, hands-on activities (think crafts and cooking), and maybe even a few lightbulb moments. Led by Srim’s seasoned faculty and guests from Gwinnett Building Babies’ Brains, it’s all about building confidence—for kids and parents. Bonus: giveaways! Details? Visit www.srimacademy.com or call 678-808-9813. STORY 3: Christkindl Market drove 77% increase in downtown Lawrenceville visitors Lawrenceville’s first year hosting the Atlanta Christkindl Market? A total game-changer. Nearly 371,000 people visited the market during its debut season downtown—more than double the attendance from its Buckhead days, even with fewer open days. And here’s the kicker: 159,500 of those visitors wandered over to the Lawrenceville Square, boosting local restaurants and shops by 77% compared to 2024. Free parking, shuttles, and a glowing Winterlight Walk helped draw crowds, with visitors from 48 states. Downtown businesses saw sales jump 5–30%, and vendors reported 20–30% higher sales than the previous year. The collaboration between the city and Gwinnett County was key, with County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson adding, “This event showed what’s possible when partnerships thrive.” Lawrenceville’s officially on the holiday map. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back Break 2: Ingles Markets STORY 4: 2026 Beer Chaser 5K Registration is open Whether you’re a speed demon or a beer-loving stroller, the Beer Chaser 5K is calling your name. On March 7, Suwanee Town Center Park transforms into a St. Paddy’s Day celebration with a twist—running, sipping, and plenty of green. This isn’t your average 5K. Sure, it’s a Peachtree Road Race qualifier, but it’s also a beer lover’s dream. Choose your adventure: run straight through or stop at five beer stations along the scenic Suwanee Creek Greenway. Each station features a different Georgia brewery, so your taste buds get a workout too. Not into mid-run sips? No worries. Every runner (21+) gets a full beer at the finish line. And the party doesn’t stop there—StillFire Brewing is hosting an after-party with live music, food trucks, and 25 beers on tap. Registration starts at $55 for the straight-through option or $65 if you want those beer stops. Prices go up Feb. 1, so don’t wait. Oh, and don’t forget your festive St. Paddy’s Day gear—there are prizes for best costume, best group, and best kilt. Proceeds benefit Kiwanis Charity, supporting local causes like the North Gwinnett Co-Op and Children’s Healthcare. Details? Head to SuwaneeBeerFest.com/beer-chaser-5k/. STORY 5: Lanier Islands Resort looks back at 2025, forward to an exciting 2026 Lanier Islands Resort just wrapped up a big year—its 50th anniversary—and it’s clear they’re not slowing down anytime soon. Recognized as one of Georgia’s Best Vacation Destinations, the resort is leaning into its legacy while planning some exciting upgrades for 2026. Last year was packed: a new chapel and garden for weddings, a free summer concert series, the return of Magical Nights of Lights, and even a lantern festival that drew 4,500 people. Oh, and they snagged awards from The Knot, WeddingWire, and GolfPass, among others. Looking ahead? A $3 million refresh for Legacy Lodge, a revamped golf clubhouse, and Georgia’s first lighted Par-3 course. Plus, new events like a Fall Songwriter Series. Big things are coming. We’ll be right back. Break 3: GCPL Passport STORY 6: Rep. Andrew Clyde announces 2026 Congressional Art Competition Hey, high school artists in Georgia’s Ninth District—Congressman Andrew Clyde wants *you* to show off your talent in the 2026 Congressional Art Competition. Got a creative spark? Here’s your chance to have your work displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a whole year. Submissions are due Feb. 20, and the process is simple: send a digital image of your piece first, and if you’re a finalist, drop off the physical artwork by March 13. The theme? Anything that reflects North Georgia—think landmarks, industries, or even your school. Accepted mediums include paintings, drawings, mixed media, photography, and more. Just keep it two-dimensional, under 26x26 inches framed, and under 15 pounds. Oh, and no copying or controversial content—this is about originality. Questions? Call Clyde’s Gainesville office at 470-768-6520. Let’s see what you’ve got! STORY 7: Gwinnett Chamber introduces Elevate Business series The Gwinnett Chamber is shaking things up with the launch of the Elevate Business Series (EBS)—a fresh, expanded take on their long-running Small Business Series. Starting in 2026, this revamped program is all about helping small and medium-sized businesses level up with sharper insights, practical strategies, and tools to thrive. Why the change? Simple: demand. Attendance has been climbing, industries are diversifying, and businesses are hungry for deeper, more advanced content. “Elevate reflects how far we’ve come—and where we’re going,” said Megan Lesko, the Chamber’s Senior VP of Membership. The first event? Feb. 24, featuring Media Frenzy CEO Sarah Tourville on strategic communications. "I've always just wanted to be accepted". I think many of us can relate to that sentiment. Max Lucado certainly could. Much of his life was spent feeling "on the outside" and wanting to be accepted, which led to a series of unhealthy behaviors just to try and find acceptance. Today, he vulnerably unpacks where this belief system started in his childhood, how it led him down a very unhealthy path, and how it still creeps into his life, even though he's been walking with Jesus for so many years. Then we take a look at some simple adjustments the Viola could make to stop losing like the losers they are. Staying in this present eventually got depressing, so we decided to look into the future and saw, well, an unremittingly grim landscape. Yep, we discuss relegation (one of us is surprisingly confident that Fiorentina's staying up) and the January mercato before closing out with a look at the coach, the fans, and the general feeling around the squad. Along the way, we learned about Mike's pandering to a younger listening demographic, Tito's Slingblade psychosis, and a new social experiment to conduct if you're listening in a crowded, public space. In this special episode of the Chuck ToddCast, Chuck continues his “What If” series, an exploration of how small decisions and turning points can radically reshape American history. Using the razor-thin 2000 election as a starting point, Chuck explains why counterfactuals are a powerful way to understand how we got here—and how different choices might have altered today’s polarized political landscape. The episode then dives into two alternate histories surrounding the 2020 election, examining the butterfly effects of outcomes that almost happened but didn’t. First, Chuck asks what America might look like if Donald Trump had lost in 2020 and accepted the result—no “stop the steal,” no January 6th, and a very different Biden presidency likely constrained by a Republican Senate and a weaker Democratic coalition. Then he flips the premise and explores a more provocative scenario: what if Trump had actually won in 2020? With stronger institutional guardrails, a less sycophantic cabinet, and immediate lame-duck pressures, Chuck argues the country may have experienced less chaos at home and abroad, even as major global questions—from Afghanistan to Ukraine—would still loom. The episode ultimately shows how January 6th became a hinge point that reshaped both Biden’s presidency and Trump’s second term, leaving open the unsettling possibility that American politics—and even the 2024 race—could look entirely different today. We're diving into Disney behaviors that should absolutely be socially accepted everywhere, because somehow the parks figured out how humans actually want to function… and then we all had to go back home. From skipping lines like a pro to paying for everything with your wrist, Disney has quietly raised our expectations for daily life — and we're not mad about it.We're counting down our favorite habits, systems, and quirks that feel perfectly normal inside the Disney bubble but earn you very strange looks anywhere else. Things like Lightning Lanes for everyday errands, posted wait times for places that desperately need them (looking at you, DMV), mobile ordering everything, and treating Cast Members — aka employees — like the absolute legends they are. We'll also talk about why these ideas actually make sense, how they could lower stress, save time, and maybe even make people a little nicer to each other. Shocking concept, right? This episode is lighthearted, relatable, and guaranteed to have you saying, “Why don't we do it this way?”No trip planning, no ride rankings — just a fun, slightly chaotic look at how Disney logic might secretly be the blueprint for a better real world. And yes… Lightning Lanes is our hill to die on.

In this insightful episode, Dr. Dave Chatterjee speaks with Greg Clark—longtime enterprise content management and cybersecurity leader—about a foundational but overlooked ingredient of AI success: information readiness. While organizations rush to implement artificial intelligence, many neglect the quality, governance, security, and contextual integrity of the data fueling these systems. As Clark notes, without clean, curated, and governed information, even the most advanced AI models will misfire—sometimes with damaging or legally significant consequences.Together, they explore why “garbage in, garbage out” is more relevant than ever in the AI era, especially as enterprises confront fragmented data, weak metadata, inconsistent governance, and high regulatory scrutiny. Dr. Chatterjee weaves in his Commitment–Preparedness–Discipline (CPD) governance framework, demonstrating why information readiness must be treated as a strategic capability, not a technical afterthought. The conversation illuminates how trust, data integrity, and responsible model oversight are emerging as competitive differentiators in the age of GenAI and agentic AI.Time Stamps00:49 — Dave introduces Greg Clark02:43 — Clark's 20+ year journey07:14 — Defining information readiness08:32 — Importance of understanding data09:58 — Data chaos and pitfalls12:00 — Trust erosion13:29 — Air Canada chatbot case16:22 — Auditability and explainability18:51 — CPD applied to AI governance20:43 — Operational maturity22:53 — JPMorgan's Responsible AI Council25:43 — Security as strategic capability27:35 — Zero trust and data protection30:32 — Mayo Clinic example31:25 — Metrics for buy-in32:50 — Destroy-your-business scenarios34:21 — Trust-first culture36:09 — Human-in-the-loop37:20 — GDPR case38:23 — Final reflectionsTo access and download the entire podcast summary with discussion highlights - https://www.dchatte.com/episode-97-ais-missing-puzzle-piece-why-information-readiness-determines-ai-success/Connect with Host Dr. Dave Chatterjee LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dchatte/ Website: https://dchatte.com/Books PublishedThe DeepFake ConspiracyCybersecurity Readiness: A Holistic and High-Performance ApproachArticles PublishedRamasastry, C. and Chatterjee, D. In this episode, we finally dig into the tyre-testing project that quietly consumed most of my year.Nine months, six tyre widths, hundreds of test runs, three road surfaces, four identical wheelsets, and far too many cold late-night tests than any sane person should attempt. But it was worth it.Today, Ronan is joined by John Buckley the founder of Streamlines Aero, the company behind the hardware and technical support so crucial to this testing. Together, we break down how the test protocol worked, why it's different, and why those differences matter. We also unpack the major findings: why pressure mattered more than width in this dataset, why some long-held assumptions didn't hold up in the real world, and how tyre temperature turned out to be one of the biggest and least appreciated variables affecting performance. This is just the beginning. Later in the episode we explain where our tyre testing goes from here and what to expect in the new year.

Top Stories for December 9th Publish Date: December 9th PRE-ROLL: DTL HOLIDAY From the BG AD Group Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Tuesday, December 9th and Happy Birthday to John Malkovich I’m Peyton Spurlock and here are your top stories presented by KIA Mall of Georgia. Neighborhood Christmas Train Experience rolls into holidays to help benefit Norcross Co-op North Gwinnett Co-op in need of donations for annual Santa Shop Toy Drive Gwinnett's budget hearing draws few speakers, but feedback still accepted All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: Kia Mall of Georgia - Villa Rica Wonderland Train STORY 1: Neighborhood Christmas Train Experience rolls into holidays to help benefit Norcross Co-op The fourth annual Neighborhood Christmas Train Experience isn’t just about trains—it’s about giving back. Held at 3135 Repps Miller Road in Norcross, this massive holiday display supports Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries, a nonprofit helping families in crisis. “Last year, we raised $11,000,” said organizer Jonathan Galucki. “This year, we’re aiming for $15,000—and we’ve got a matching grant lined up.” The event runs Dec. 13, 14, 20, and 21, with tickets starting at $8. Expect nearly a dozen trains, a LEGO Christmas City, and an interactive Engineer Training Center where kids can run their own trains. Live music, festive vibes, and even a Buffalo Bills watch party? It’s all here. Visit neighborhoodchristmastrain.com for details. STORY 2: North Gwinnett Co-op in need of donations for annual Santa Shop Toy Drive The North Gwinnett Co-Op pulled off a miracle earlier this year, keeping families fed during the food-stamp crisis caused by the federal shutdown. But that effort came at a cost—plans for their annual Kristen Mullen Santa Shop had to take a back seat. “We fed families twice in November and gave out over 600 holiday meals,” said Executive Director Kim Phillips in a heartfelt Facebook video. “But now, we’re behind on toys for the Santa Shop.” The shop, which lets parents choose gifts for their kids with dignity, needs unwrapped toys by Dec. 12—especially sensory toys and gifts for teens. Visit ngcoop.org to help. STORY 3: Gwinnett's budget hearing draws few speakers, but feedback still accepted The public hearing for Gwinnett County’s proposed $2.6 billion 2026 budget? Quiet. Not a single taxpayer showed up to speak. Instead, community leaders—library board, health board, Mosaic Georgia—took the mic to thank commissioners for their expected funding. But here’s the gist: the budget is $66 million leaner than 2025’s, with Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson applauding department heads for trimming costs. “They worked hard to find efficiencies,” she said. Where’s the money going? Public safety and public works dominate—new police HQ, fire station relocations, 911 upgrades, road repaving, and even drones for mall patrols. Want to weigh in? Submit comments online by Dec. 31. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back Break 2: Ingles Markets - Sugar Hill Holiday STORY 4: 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' coming to Red Clay Music Foundry Dec. 13 Even after all these years, Jeffrey Bützer still loves playing *A Charlie Brown Christmas*. Listening to the record? Not so much. “I don’t really enjoy listening to it anymore,” he admits. “But playing it? That’s different. It’s jazz—you don’t play it the same way twice. T.T. (Mahony) takes different solos every night, sometimes longer, sometimes shorter. It keeps me on my toes, and people love it. It’s a tradition for so many, and honestly, I love that.” Bützer, Mahony, bassist Francisco Lora, and vocalists Kelly Winn and Audrey Gamez will bring the Peanuts magic to Eddie Owens Presents at Red Clay in Duluth on Dec. 13. Since the original album is only 35 minutes, the group adds some surprises—like songs from the *Phil Spector Christmas Album*—and even clips from the TV special. “We never announce it; we just do it,” Bützer says. “No one’s ever left early, so I guess it works.” And the fans? They keep coming back. “We’ve got ‘Snoopy Groupies,’” Bützer laughs. “One woman came every year, moved away, and now flies back for the show. It’s wild.” For tickets, visit eddieowenspresents.com. STORY 5: Primerica collects nearly 82,000 food items for Can-A-Thon Christmas is about giving, right? Helping those in need? Primerica hosted its annual canned food drive last week at its Duluth headquarters, collecting a jaw-dropping 81,846 cans for the Salvation Army’s Can-A-Thon. But this year, they ditched the Santa hats for bell-bottoms and tie-dye. The theme? “Can You Dig It.” Employees went all-in on the 60s and 70s vibe—think hippie costumes, peace signs, and even a nod to the Mystery Machine from *Scooby-Doo*. Groovy, right? We’ll be right back. Break 3: Sugar Hill Ice Skating Rink STORY 6: Families of crime victims remember loved ones at annual vigil As the names of Gwinnett County crime victims appeared on the screen at last weeks Crime Victims Candlelight Vigil, Deborah Free leaned into Renee Haygood’s shoulder, her tears unstoppable. Deborah’s daughter, Rachel, was killed in a domestic violence murder-suicide just two months ago. This will be the family’s first Christmas without her. Held at 12Stone Church in Duluth, the vigil—organized by the Gwinnett DA’s Office—offered grieving families a space to honor their loved ones. Three Christmas trees stood adorned with ornaments for victims, while a bell rang for each name read aloud. For Venetia and Jeffrey Coleman, who lost their son Bradley to a carjacking three years ago, the vigil was a chance to share hope. For the Free family, it was their first vigil—but not their last. “We’ll be back every year,” said Rachel’s sister, Jenn. “Her story doesn’t end here.” STORY 7: Grayson LB Tyler Atkinson Named Gatorade Georgia Football Player of the Year Gwinnett County’s got another star in the books—Grayson senior linebacker Tyler Atkinson just snagged the Gatorade Georgia Football Player of the Year award for 2025-26. That makes him the fifth-ever winner from Gwinnett, and the first since Mill Creek’s Caleb Downs in 2022. Atkinson’s season? Unreal. The 6’3”, 221-pound Texas Longhorns commit racked up 96 tackles, 26 for loss, nine sacks, and 22 QB hurries, leading Grayson to the state quarterfinals. Oh, and he’s a five-star recruit ranked No. 14 nationally for 2026. Off the field? He’s hosting youth football clinics, mentoring at church, and rocking a 3.48 GPA. Atkinson’s also in the running for Gatorade’s National Player of the Year. Big things ahead. Patton, a cavalryman, carefully accepted that mechanized warfare was the future and became a great advocate of the tank, though his career progression required caution. He was wounded in WWI, feeling he had failed his destiny to die a hero. Montgomery, post-war, was an aloof but talented brigade major who gained confidence by publishing his views on training, asserting "the Montgomery way." Rommel, who married well, became an inspirational lecturer at the Dresden Infantry School. Patton failed a character test by rejecting Joe Angelo, the man who saved his life, after his zealous role in suppressing the Bonus Army in 1932.
