The conversation also delved into EIP 7684 and EIP 8148, addressing the custom sweep threshold for validators and the return deposits for distinct credentials. The conversation covers a range of EIPs and their potential impact on stakers, validators, and node operators. It also discusses the proposal to change the timing of the ACDC call to accommodate participants from different time zones.TakeawaysGlamsterdam DevNet 4 issues and investigationsDiscussion on target gas limit PRsIntroduction of Disruptor tool for reorgs and network forksEIP 7684 and EIP 8148 for validators and return deposits EIP 8148 is supported by solo stakers, small operators, and institutional stakers due to its predictable cash flow benefits.EIP 8148's configurable cap is seen as useful for institutional stakers to manage risk limits and for solo stakers to consolidate into zero X02 validators.EIP 8148's automatic sweep mechanism is preferred for seamless reward accounting and better user experience.EIP 8061's increase in exit and consolidation churn is already implemented and tested, making it a candidate for SFI.The proposal to change the timing of the ACDC call to accommodate participants from different time zones is being considered for the next ACDC call as a trial. The decision to change the timing of the ACDC call will be based on the turnout and engagement of participants in the next call.Chapters00:00 Glamsterdam DevNet 4 Update13:02 Discussion on Target Gas Limit PRs21:35 Introduction of Disruptor Tool38:10 EIP 7684 - Custom Sweep Threshold for Validators48:08 EIP 8148: Predictable Cash Flow and Configurable Cap53:24 EIP 8148: Automatic Sweep Mechanism59:14 EIP 8148: Support from Node Operators01:08:22 EIP 8080: Exits Using the Consolidation Queue01:15:28 EIP 7688: Forward Compatible Consensus Data Structures01:21:25 ACDC Call Timing Change Proposal

Step into Episode 214 of On The Delo as Delo sits down with Jeremiah, Air Force veteran, mortgage broker, and multi-unit franchisee of Jeremiah's Italian Ice, for a candid conversation about building multiple businesses, staying grounded through discipline, and why family-focused frozen treats are a surprisingly powerful vehicle for entrepreneurship. From opening his first location next to Corona del Sol High School in Chandler to expanding with a drive-through near Cardinal Stadium in Glendale, Jeremiah brings real talk on what it takes to run two companies at once without letting either one fall apart. The conversation covers Jeremiah's remarkable origin story — born in Guyana, raised in Brooklyn, trained as an Air Force veteran, and pivoting from aviation to mortgages to franchising — and why he's never once thought about retiring. Delo and Jeremiah go deep on the parallels between brokering mortgages and brokering insurance, the importance of systems and high-trust relationships with your team, and why "autopilot culture" is the fastest route to a failing business. You'll also hear about Delo's new book Risky Business: The Arizona Liquor Liability and Insurance Survival Guide, the power of waking up at 4:35 AM, the joy of watching anxious teenagers build confidence scooping gelati, and why authentic person-to-person connection beats transactional business every single time.Chapter Guide (Timestamps):(0:00 - 1:26) Welcome, Delo's New Book Risky Business & Intro to Jeremiah(1:27 - 3:50) Queen Creek Growth, Arizona Roots & Origin Story(3:51 - 5:57) From Guyana to Brooklyn to the Air Force & Valley Living(5:58 - 8:12) Mortgage Brokering, Desert State Mortgage & The Broker Parallel(8:13 - 11:26) Discovering Jeremiah's Italian Ice & Opening the First Chandler Location(11:27 - 14:22) Youth Employment, Anxiety, Confidence Building & The Value of In-Person Work(14:23 - 17:07) The Jeremiah's Brand Story: Florida Roots, First Franchise in Arizona & 200 Locations(17:08 - 20:57) Family-Focused Model, Gelati, Drive-Throughs & What Makes Italian Ice Different(20:58 - 24:06) Managing Two Businesses, Daily Routine & Building a High-Trust Team(24:07 - 28:20) Health, Fitness, Prayer & Serving Mom: Staying Grounded Across It All(28:21 - 31:41) Franchising Advice: Know the Day-to-Day, Systems, and Work Ethic Required(31:47 - 38:38) Rapid Fire: Aliens, Tacos, Pull-Ups, AC/DC & Cheesecake Italian Ice

Today's episode starts with one of the biggest cliffhangers in recent Rizzuto Show history: Riz finally gets the results from his sleep study. Will he officially become a CPAP guy? Is he about to start "microdosing life support" every night? Or will doctors somehow discover an entirely new category of terrible sleep? The crew weighs in with equal parts concern, medical expertise they definitely don't have, and relentless roasting.Things somehow spiral into a discussion about waking up twenty times a night, cortisol overload, testosterone levels, hormone therapy, NAD shots, and the possibility that everyone on the show is slowly becoming a science experiment. Basically, if you've ever hit your 40s and wondered what happened, this conversation is for you. Then it's on to movie theater controversy as Alamo Drafthouse sparks outrage by replacing their old-school paper ordering system with QR code phone ordering. The crew debates whether phones belong anywhere near a movie screen, whether glowing screens ruin the experience, and if Elijah Wood might be the most passionate movie theater defender on Earth.Meanwhile, Riz and his wife are considering a rare date night at the movies, leading to a surprisingly intense discussion about movie choices, theater etiquette, and whether anyone should ever be playing a game on their phone during a film.In Crap On Celebrities, the gang dives into music festival drama as performers start dropping out of the America 250 celebration while Vanilla Ice somehow remains standing. There's also talk about Riot Fest's loaded lineup, Tom Morello's latest festival announcement, Violet Grohl's debut album, Willie Nelson making chart history, and upcoming movies that might actually be worth leaving the house for.The entertainment world doesn't escape unscathed either. The crew discusses Brad Pitt family drama, Nicolas Cage changing his name to avoid riding the Coppola family coattails, Toy Story 5 preparing to emotionally destroy an entire generation again, and the strange reality that kids today would rather stare at a tablet than play with actual toys. Then comes one of the day's biggest debates: the Mount Rushmore of arena rock. Queen, Journey, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, KISS, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, U2, and more all enter the argument as the crew tries to determine which bands truly deserve arena rock immortality.Add in celebrity birthdays, bizarre movie facts, festival announcements, old concert memories, and enough sarcasm to power a small city, and you've got another completely normal day with The Rizzuto Show.If you're looking for a daily comedy show packed with ridiculous conversations, pop culture commentary, music news, and the kind of friendship that only comes from years of roasting each other on the radio, this episode delivers. The Rizzuto Show remains the daily comedy show where sleep studies become comedy material, movie theater policies become national debates, and arena rock rankings become blood feuds. Thanks for making us part of your daily comedy show routine.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rizz is having an existential crisis after discovering his son's feet are officially bigger than his. The gang dives headfirst into the emotional rollercoaster of watching kids grow up, the weird realization that childhood doesn't last forever, and why parents secretly measure their self-worth against shoe sizes.A family in California is desperately searching for answers after a delivery driver allegedly walked off with their cat. Yes, their actual cat. Not a package. Not a box. The cat. The crew debates whether the world's chillest feline was simply too trusting and whether every pet owner should now be suspicious of compliments from delivery drivers. Then there's the woman who somehow handed over her debit card and nearly ten thousand dollars in cash after falling for an unbelievable rideshare scam. The gang attempts to understand how these scams work while also wondering how many red flags a person can ignore before reality taps them on the shoulder.Meanwhile, an airline passenger claims a cup of coffee caused life-changing injuries in the absolute worst place imaginable. What follows is an in-depth discussion on airplane coffee, turbulence, questionable beverage decisions, and why nobody wants to gamble with hot liquids at 35,000 feet. The conversation takes another turn when Rizz discovers a tick between his toes and immediately starts worrying about Alpha-Gal Syndrome. Because apparently adulthood is just a series of increasingly specific fears. As if that wasn't enough, the crew uncovers one of the strangest side hustles on the internet: cosplay models selling "foot juice" to convention attendees. Yes, exactly what it sounds like. No, nobody is proud of humanity after hearing this story.Rizz finally gets the results from his sleep study. Will he officially become a CPAP guy? Queen, Journey, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, KISS, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, U2, and more all enter the argument as the crew tries to determine which bands truly deserve arena rock immortality. What began as a normal conversation about wedding presents quickly turned into an absolutely ridiculous debate over what happens when a group of radio personalities starts shopping online with zero adult supervision. One minute we're talking about gift registries. The next minute we're researching blow-up dolls, discussing payment plans, comparing shipping options, and wondering whether a fully wrapped mystery package would instantly become the most talked-about item at the reception.Because apparently that's where our brains go.Would the bride find it funny? Would the groom appreciate the joke? Would security escort us from the venue? These are the important questions tackled by your favorite collection of professional broadcasters pretending to be functioning adults. Then things somehow become even more competitive with a packed edition of The Riz Quiz.Listeners step up to test their knowledge against the clock in a rapid-fire battle featuring geography, sports, movies, history, fast food, random facts, and several questions that instantly made people question everything they thought they knew. There were strong performances, surprise eliminations, and at least one answer that will live in infamy among breakfast cereal enthusiasts. We also discover that some questions are a lot easier when you're listening from your car than when you're the one actually under pressure. As always, confidence levels ranged from "I've got this" to "Why did I call in?" in record time. The result is exactly the kind of chaos you've come to expect from The Rizzuto Show: random conversations, questionable logic, competitive trivia, and a group of friends somehow turning ordinary topics into complete nonsense.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.Amazon Driver Caught on Camera Taking Family's Cat During a DeliveryWoman loses nearly $10K after giving envelope of money to Uber driver in Lebanon CountyMan Says He Suffered 'Excruciating Pain' and Scarring After 'Boiling' Coffee Spilled on His Lap During FlightCosplay stars caught hawking truly revolting products at California anime festival — and they sold outShrey Parikh bounces back, battles nerves and dominates spell-off to win the National Spelling BeeMan tries to tear down Butler County home with excavator after argumentCrimeMan Back In Trouble Over Crack PunDrunk driver caught with 'homemade cannon' in VernonFlorida Man Allegedly Smashed Store Window With Chainsaw to Steal Pokémon Cards Worth $12,000Man Turns Himself in for Allegedly Vandalizing Restaurant Deck and Then Taking a Nap After Surveillance Photo Goes ViralPennsylvania man cuts pickleball nets at parks after injury ruined his summerBaked dirt accidentally served at Maine high school supperWearing only a watch, a headlamp and flip-flops isn't a great disguise when trashing a neighbor's motion lightTrespasser rescued after getting stuck in smoking chimney, arrested by Everett policeSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

356: Pre-#InfoComm26 No Context Flash Pitches

Higher Ed AV Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later May 19, 2026 37:54

This week on the Higher Ed AV Podcast, Joe Way tries something brand new: the first-ever No Context Flash Pitch. The concept is simple, chaotic, and exactly what makes the higher ed AV community so special. Guests jump on live, get two minutes, and can pitch anything they want. A product. A booth. A project. A tip. A warning. A reason to get excited for InfoComm. No prep. No polish. No sponsor package. Just real people, real energy, and real reasons to show up. What follows is a fast-paced, community-powered preview of InfoComm 2026, featuring manufacturers, HETMA partners, higher ed professionals, and longtime AV friends sharing what they are bringing to the show floor and why it matters for the higher education vertical. Bert Feldman, INOGENI Bert Feldman, U.S. Sales Director at INOGENI, kicks off the Flash Pitch format with a powerhouse overview of the company's growing AV and UC portfolio. He previews INOGENI's latest work around USB, USB-C, IP, multi-camera switching, BYOM, room system flexibility, and automated classroom capture workflows. The headline is CamTrack, INOGENI's multi-camera automated switching solution designed to support active learning spaces, lecture capture rooms, hybrid classrooms, and flexible teaching environments. Bert also highlights INOGENI's IP-to-USB converter, Dante-enabled workflows, the upcoming U-BRIDGE USB-C extender, and the award-winning TOGGLE series. For higher ed, the message is clear: INOGENI is helping campuses simplify the complicated spaces where cameras, microphones, computers, and collaboration platforms all need to work together without friction. John Palazinski, GUDE Systems John Palazinski from GUDE Systems brings the perfect mix of product preview, HETMA partnership, and show-floor energy. He talks about GUDE's strong involvement with HETMA, including participation in the HETMA Approved evaluation program, and previews new products coming to InfoComm, including an updated AC/DC box, a new UPS box, and GUDE's cloud software for managing power and connected devices. For higher ed institutions, John's pitch is about more than power. It is about reliability, remote management, uptime, and giving AV teams better tools to support the rooms their campuses depend on every day. He also teases a special gift for HETMA members who stop by the booth, proving once again that swag and smart infrastructure can absolutely coexist. Renee Benson, Sony Renee Benson from Sony joins from the road and still manages to bring the heart of the episode into focus: relationships. Sony lists Renee Benson among its HETMA recognitions as “Best Vendor Rep,” and Sony's InfoComm 2026 page lists booth C8301.  Renee previews Sony's InfoComm presence, including new BRAVIA displays, P-Series and S-Series solutions, LED offerings, and the opportunity for attendees to connect directly with Sony's regional teams. Her segment is a reminder that technology is only part of the equation. In higher ed AV, trust matters. Relationships matter. Having vendor partners who understand the campus environment matters. Renee's pitch captures exactly why the best vendor relationships feel less transactional and more like an extension of the community. Michael Gunderson, Highland Community College One of our most experienced HETMA members, Michael Gunderson, uses his two minutes to deliver a fantastic InfoComm survival guide for first-time attendees. The advice is practical gold: download the app, mark the vendors you want to see, study the floor layout, learn the numbering system, find the restrooms, locate the free food and water, and give yourself time to understand the show before trying to sprint through it. He also shouts out the HETMA booth, morning coffee, happy hours, peer networking, and the importance of making real connections. This segment turns into one of the most useful parts of the episode because it reminds everyone that InfoComm can be overwhelming, but it does not have to be. With the right plan and the right community, the biggest AV show in North America can feel a whole lot smaller. Brandy Johnson, PTZOptics Brandy Johnson from PTZOptics brings big energy and a bold preview of what the company is bringing to InfoComm. She talks about PTZOptics stepping into a new era as an employee-owned company, complete with new branding, new booth energy, and a stronger focus on complete video workflows. Her pitch centers on interoperability, partner ecosystems, and helping attendees experience how PTZOptics products work inside real AV environments. Brandy highlights the Link 4K, Dante AV-H workflows, hands-on test-drive stations, partner integrations with companies like NETGEAR and INOGENI, new 4K products, updated web GUI capabilities, and voice-tracking integrations. For higher ed, this is where PTZOptics shines. Brandy positions their solutions not just as cameras, but as part of a larger teaching, learning, streaming, and content creation ecosystem. It is about giving campuses flexible, scalable video tools that actually fit the way classrooms, lecture halls, studios, and hybrid spaces operate. Bill O'Donnell, Babson College Bill O'Donnell from Babson College joins from the end-user side and offers one of the most important reminders of the episode: do not skip the small booths. A Crestron case study identifies Bill O'Donnell as an Instructional Technology Integration Specialist in Media Services at Babson College.  Bill talks about the value of walking the show floor with curiosity, especially in the smaller booths where emerging companies and early-stage ideas often appear before the larger manufacturers adopt them. He points to the evolution of tracking camera technology as an example, noting how innovations that once looked niche can eventually become major parts of the AV ecosystem. His segment is a perfect higher ed perspective: innovation does not always announce itself with the biggest booth, the loudest demo, or the most expensive buildout. Sometimes the next big thing is tucked away in a corner, waiting for the right campus technologist to notice it. Jason Jenkins, Studiomatic Jason Jenkins from Studiomatic jumps in after seeing Joe's LinkedIn post and delivers a compelling pitch for the continuing evolution of one-button studios. Studiomatic's own site identifies Jason Jenkins as the developer behind its One Button Studio solutions.  Jason explains how he has spent years building simple, powerful presentation recording systems that allow faculty, staff, students, and creators to walk in with a PowerPoint, press one button, and leave with a finished video. He previews the One Button Studio Pro, the mobile or desk-based One Button Studio Go, and the upcoming One Button Studio Solo. The magic is in the simplicity: no production crew, no complicated login process, no editing headache, and no steep learning curve. Just an intuitive kiosk-style system designed to make high-quality content creation accessible. For higher ed, Jason's segment is especially relevant. Campuses are still looking for better ways to support lecture capture, faculty media creation, student presentations, online learning content, and self-service production spaces. Studiomatic's approach makes those workflows approachable, repeatable, and scalable. HETMA at InfoComm 2026 Joe closes the episode by previewing the full HETMA experience at InfoComm 2026. HETMA's week includes the Higher Education Summit, the Higher Ed AV Awards, the HETMA booth, morning coffee, happy hours, show floor tours, live podcasting, booth activations, and the kind of hallway conversations that often become the most valuable part of the entire show. The HETMA InfoComm 2026 page lists the booth as C6023 and outlines a full week of higher ed-focused programming from June 15–19, 2026.  Joe also previews the new VIP Qualified-Buyers After-Hours Reception, designed to connect higher ed decision-makers with manufacturers, integrators, and partners around real projects, real budgets, and real needs. The goal is not just networking for networking's sake. It is matchmaking with purpose. Episode Takeaway This episode proves that InfoComm is not just about products. It is about people, timing, trust, curiosity, and community. From INOGENI's automated camera workflows to GUDE's power management, Sony's display ecosystem, PTZOptics' video innovation, Babson's end-user perspective, Studiomatic's one-button content creation, and HETMA's community-first show strategy, this Flash Pitch episode captures the best of what makes higher ed AV different. It is a little unpredictable. It is a little chaotic. And it is exactly the kind of energy that makes people want to be part of the room.

In this episode of On The Line, host Jen Gerson speaks with Flavio Volpe, president of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association, about the increasingly tense state of Canada-U.S. trade relations. This episode of On The Line is brought to you by Dominion Dynamics. Canada has never had true sovereign awareness of our North. Vast parts of our country are a blind spot. And when you can't see your own territory, you can't defend it, secure it, or respond when threats emerge. Dominion Dynamics is changing that. This episode we look at the phenomena of hugely successful artists refusing to play the songs that made them!  First among these is Radiohead, whose “Creep” launched them onto the world stage.  Others include The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and Madonna.   Our Album You Must Hear Before You Die is The Stranglers' 1977 debut, the excellent “Rattus Norvegicus”, yet another punk record from the mid-70s. Mick loves this album for its energy and refusal to bow down to supposed “punk” rules.  We also look at some of the highlights of The Stranglers' outrageous career to this day.  In Rock News, Jeff examines the success (or otherwise) of a Quebec band called Angine de Poitrine, known for their complex, “microtonal” compositions and absurdist public image, featuring oversized papier-mâché masks and black-and-white polka-dotted costumes. Imagine! Jeff also has a look at this year's inductees to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, including Iron Maiden, Phil Collins, and Joy Division, and our Rod Stewart moment looks at his relaxed attitude towards death.  Plenty there for everyone!  References:  1001 Albums You Must Hear before You Die, Robert Dimery, The Stranglers, Rattus Norvegicus, Hugh Cornwell, JJ Burnel, sexism & misogyny, “(Get a) Grip (on yourself)”, “Peaches”, “Down in the Sewer”, Deep Purple, “Strange Kind of Woman”, ice cream van, "Golden Brown", harpsichord, Battersea Park Big Top Festival strippers, Radiohead, Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, Philip Selway, Pablo Honey, Electioneering, Just, “Rolling Stone's 250 Greatest Guitarists of all Time”, “OK Computer”, Nick Cave, “Creep”, “Pavlov's Dog”, “Julia”, AC/DC, “It's a Long Way to the Top”, Bon Scott, Pat Benatar, “Hit me with your Best Shot”, Beastie Boys, “Fight for Your Right (to Party)”, Billy Joel , “Tell Her About It”, Weird Al Jankovic, “Eat It”, Rolling Stones, “Brown Sugar”, Madonna, Dylan, “Hurricane”, Robert Plant, Led Zeppelin, "Stairway to Heaven", Eric Clapton, "Tears in Heaven”, George Harrison, "My Sweet Lord", "He's So Fine"  Playlist (all the music & artists we referred to in this episode) Angine de Potrine Hugh Cornwell Send us a message, so we know what you're thinking!

This is a public episode. This sponsored series is created in partnership with The Culture & Community Power Fund (C&CPF), a national funders' collaborative advancing the role of culture in building identity, agency, and collective power. This series explores the cultural ecosystem—the traditions, stories, rituals, and spaces that sustain frontline communities—and what it takes to support and strengthen it. Read the complete series. Boston's Chinatown has for many years faced incredible pressures of displacement, but a network of nonprofits has turned art, storytelling, and organizing into a strategy to empower the community to fight back.  In this sponsored episode with The Culture & Community Power Fund, leaders of three community organizations explain how the Chinatown Cultural Plan gives their coalition a shared roadmap for collaboration.  "Embarking on this cultural plan allowed us an opportunity to step back, talk to many organizations, community members, see what people are doing, and see how our work complements each other and strengthens each other," said Cynthia Woo, director of the Pao Arts Center at the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center.  The center is among a network of community organizations working on the plan that received unrestricted funding from C&CPF, a national funders' collaborative that supports organizations working on the front lines in communities impacted by systemic oppression. Erik Takeshita, director of C&CPF, says the philanthropic sector will too often “focus on the organization as a unit, not necessarily as the community, as the unit of change and intervention. As a result, you end up with these fractured communities.”  In Boston's Chinatown, the network they're supporting also includes the Asian Community Development Corporation and the Chinatown Community Land Trust.  Angie Liou, executive director of ACDC, explains their “anchor strategy,” which uses arts and culture as an anti-displacement tool “and a tool to strengthen Chinatown's boundaries and sense of identity and belonging.” Lydia Lowe, executive director of the Chinatown CLT, explains how art and storytelling drive their organizing and even helped the land trust acquire its first permanently affordable homes.  "Sharing stories is a really important part of strengthening our power,” said Lowe. “Because we want every generation to be grounded in that history and to know that there are struggles that happened before us and we can win and we can make a difference."

A couple of weeks ago, I was in the midst of our morning routine. Wake up, get dressed, breakfast, load up, choose the morning mix for our drive to school. Most of the time it's kids' music on the way to school. After drop off, Dad does some reminiscing. I love going down the rabbit hole and finding old tunes and enjoying them again. Remember the classics Matchbox 20, Oasis, Weezer, Garth Brooks, Joe Diffie, MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, AC/DC, Jimmy Hendrix, CCR…etc. On this particular day, I had re-re-re discovered Brooks and Dunn, one of my favorites, just as I hit the cul-de-sac, I imagined myself singing karaoke. However, I was sitting in the driveway singing at the top of my lungs and rocking the truck as I did so. A couple of songs in, and I looked up to find my wife doubled over in the window, hysterically laughing at me. It's easy sometimes to get caught up in the moment and lose track of what is happening outside of our periphery. This weekend, we examine Jacob's life and his marriages and how, in the midst of all his struggles, he is head down trying to make the most of it while being detached from the promises of God that are directing his life. Instead of wrestling so hard, he should have considered the larger story God was writing on his life and the generations around him. Read ahead. Take a look at Genesis 27 - 32. Pastor Matt McCarter

The name Stevie Wright probably doesn't ring a bell. It should. Wright was the lead singer of The Easybeats, Australia's first international rock act and the band that gave the world "Friday on My Mind" in 1965. Then he made Hard Road.Released in 1974 and produced by Harry Vanda and George Young, the duo who would immediately go on to produce AC/DC's first six albums. Hard Road features Malcolm Young on guitar and a teenage Angus Young as the live touring band. The title track is, as patron Gavin Reid puts it, "Highway to Hell was a slower Hard Road." The blueprint was right here. And then there's "Evie," a 10-minute, three-part rock opera that hit #1 in Australia in 1974, one full year before "Bohemian Rhapsody." Gavin also argues it may have been the template for the Queen epic. Contested, but compelling.Jay and Chip walked into this episode having never heard of Stevie Wright. That's How I Remember It

Kevin Drew from Broken Social Scene is my guest on this episode of That's How I Remember It. I met Kevin years ago at some festivals our bands played together, and have always really enjoyed speaking with him, so I was thrilled to have him on the show. We talked about the great new BSS record as well as AC/DC, losing a parent, Rosie Grier, not having children, Dinosaur Jr., and the Broken Social Scene set at Lollapalooza 2006 - the best music festival set I've ever witnessed. This was such a great talk, huge thanks to Kevin for joining. Listen and subscribe!

Get your motor runnin', head out on the highway. Yup, this week we're looking for adventure...and whatever comes our way...because it's an O3L Road Trip! Everyone's piling in the van and bringing five albums with them. Our Third Lad this week has not only spent countless hours on the road, but has made some great road trip albums himself! Jamie James is best known as the singer/songwriter/guitarist of the new wave/roots rock band The Kingbees. The Kingbees recorded two albums for RSO Records (Robert Stigwood's classic label that was also home to Bee Gees and Eric Clapton) - the first of which included the Billboard Top 100-charting single "My Mistake" in 1980. Jamie has also played with a late-70s touring version of Steppenwolf, and spent decades playing with musically inclined actors (or is it dramatically inclined musicians?) Harry Dean Stanton and Dennis Quaid. Better yet, Jamie has a new album out on Oglio Records called Straight Up. It channels a lifetime of grit, heartbreak, and swagger into a punchy collection of blues and rock n' roll tunes. You'll hear some amazing tales of rock n' roll - including crashing Apple Records headquarters, getting bottled off the stage while opening for AC/DC and ZZ Top, and getting a pistol pulled on him by Phil Spector while trying to escape listening to a Celine Dion demo! Your only mistake would be NOT listening! Dang it! This van only has an 8-track player?!?! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Hour 1 opens with Marc Cox returning to the studio and unloading on media hypocrisy and left-wing rhetoric following the attempted attack tied to Donald Trump, arguing years of inflammatory language helped create the climate for violence. He also predicts Trump will reject any Iran proposal that avoids nuclear concessions. The hour then shifts to King Charles visiting America during the nation's 250th anniversary year, sparking debate over the monarchy, Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and a resurfaced Ilhan Omar “World War 11” gaffe. In “Kim on a Whim,” the crew tackles the Justice Department's push to revive firing squads and expand capital punishment, with Marc recounting a South Carolina murder trial and criticizing endless death row appeals and Biden-era commutations. The hour closes with a Kid Rock ticket giveaway, Marc's packed summer concert lineup featuring Triumph, Sammy Hagar, Rush, AC/DC, and Guns N' Roses, plus criticism of Bruce Springsteen's anti-Trump messaging after the assassination scare. What music do you put on your kid's FIRST MP3 player? Trevor lost sleep over the answer. This week opens with the universal dad experience: "watch this, Dad!" — followed by the kid's setup that NEVER works on the first try. Trevor and Jeff swap stories of standing patiently as 8-year-olds reset Roblox stages and 13-year-olds re-rig the table for the perfect WWE 2K24 finisher. It is, as Jeff puts it, "a waste of my time" you wouldn't trade for anything. Listener "you fall before me" wrote in asking about Pragmata — Capcom's upcoming space-dad shooter where you escort a piggybacking AI girl through a Resident Evil-meets-God of War setup. Trevor and Jeff weren't sold on the trailers, but the dad-game tag is doing the work. Verdict: this one's going on the list. Sessionable, 12-15 hours, dad-coded story. Reach out at newdadgaming.com if you've played it. Then the centerpiece — Trevor bought his oldest a replacement retro console (RIP first one), and the kid asked for music to load onto it. What followed was a parental crisis: deep cuts? popular bangers? things Dad loved at his kid's age? Trevor's final list lands somewhere in the middle: Bruno Mars (radio edit, naturally), Linkin Park (college nostalgia), an Áreva Vega track for the Colombian side of the family, Mariah Carey, White Stripes, 21 Pilots, and his guilty pleasure — Less Than Jake's "Science of Selling Yourself Short." Jeff shares the Just Dance pipeline that got his kids into Queen and AC/DC, and the perennial dad fantasy: bring back Rock Band. In the L column: Jeff's Gaming Dad Loss with My Little Puppy. His 13-year-old asked for it (it reminded them of the family dog), Jeff bought it the moment it went on sale, and on birthday morning the kid politely asked if they really wanted that game. Steam playtime since: zero. Cautionary tale for any dad tempted to immediately fulfill a gift request — let it simmer. Trevor brings a head-scratcher next: WWE 2K24 was running in SLOW MOTION on his kids' console and they were just… fine with it. They never said anything. The fix? Turn off the internet. That's it. The game runs at full speed in offline mode. Welcome to gaming in 2026. The episode closes with a visit to an amusement park, a negative-90-degree roller coaster, and the slow realization that the dad body just doesn't bounce back like it used to. Trevor rode the same coaster five times, came home with neck issues, and is now openly counting the months until his youngest is tall enough to ride alone — at which point Dad is heading directly to the funnel cake stand. The heart is willing, but the body is OUT.

This week we dive into one of rock's most hysterical and revealing cultural flashpoints: the Satanic Panic. From Robert Johnson crossroads mythology and Screamin' Jay Hawkins to Black Sabbath, KISS, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, Slayer, and beyond, we trace how devil imagery, shock rock, media fearmongering, church protests, and moral crusades helped turn hard rock and metal into public enemy number one. We get into the Peters Brothers and the anti-rock movement, KISS concert protests, the PMRC hearing, the Filthy Fifteen, Richard Ramirez and AC/DC, the Judas Priest backmasking trial, Norwegian black metal church burnings, and the later scapegoating of Marilyn Manson after Columbine. We also follow the thread into more modern acts like Ghost, The Pretty Reckless, and Twin Temple, showing how Satanic imagery evolved from public scandal into branding, theater, provocation, and pop culture tradition. If you've ever wondered how rock music became the target of preachers, parents, politicians, and nightly news panic, this is the episode for you. Jase, Al, and Zach kick things off with a nostalgic dive into classic rock, using songs from Foreigner, Sweet, and AC/DC to highlight how culture has long wrestled with defining love. The guys open the door to a deeper look at how modern views on love, sexuality, and identity have drifted from their original intent.
