Jim Hill and Lauren Hersey remember Dolly Parton by exploring her long and surprisingly deep connection to Disney. Jim recounts the ambitious Feature Animation Florida project that nearly gave Dolly a starring role in a hand-drawn/CG hybrid set in Appalachia, variously known as My Peoples, Angel and Her No Good Sister, and A Few Good Ghosts. They also look back at Dolly's appearances with Disney, her relationship with Miley Cyrus, the growth of Dollywood and the Imagination Library, and Jim's own conversation with the country music legend. HIGHLIGHTS • How Dolly Parton became Miley Cyrus's Aunt Dolly on Hannah Montana. • Dolly's Disney connection stretching back to Walt Disney World's 15th anniversary celebration. • The story behind Barry Cook's abandoned Feature Animation Florida project My Peoples. • Why Disney paired traditional human animation with CG Appalachian folk-art characters. • The all-star voice cast that included Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin, Ashley Judd, Travis Tritt, Hal Holbrook, and more. • How the project evolved through titles including Elgin's Peoples, Once in a Blue Moon, Angel and Her No Good Sister, and A Few Good Ghosts. • Michael Eisner's enthusiastic reaction shortly before Disney ultimately shut the project down. • How changing attitudes toward hand-drawn animation and Disney's strained relationship with Pixar helped bring the film - and Feature Animation Florida - to an end. • Jim remembers interviewing Dolly about the Imagination Library and asking her about the Disney movie that never made it to theaters. D23 2026 wasn't just about the future of the Disney Parks. Disney also unveiled a massive slate of movies, animation, television, and more—and there was so much to discuss that we're splitting our Entertainment Showcase coverage into two episodes! In Part 1, we dig into Disney's upcoming movie and animation slate, including The Simpsons Movie, Lilo & Stitch 2, The Bluey Movie, Ice Age: Boiling Point, the live-action Tangled, Oswald, Incredibles 3, Coco 2, Gatto, Ghost Market, Romy & Michele 2, Frozen 3, Zootopia 3, Hexed, and Clay. Which announcements actually got us excited? Which sequels feel justified? Which originals caught our attention? And how deep into its enormous library of characters and franchises is Disney willing to go? Along the way, we start noticing an interesting pattern: for all the talk about Disney relying on sequels and familiar IP, both Pixar and Walt Disney Animation are still putting original movies on the slate. That raises a much bigger question we'll be coming back to soon. And we're not finished with D23 yet! Part 2 continues with Marvel, Star Wars, streaming, games, and the rest of Disney's Entertainment Showcase. What are your thoughts? Get our anti-AI slop checklist: https://clickhubspot.com/lhug Most marketers have AI in the wrong order. Tool first, brain second. David Epstein, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Range, explains why that order is quietly making your work worse, and gives Kipp the one rule that flips it.David's new book, Inside the Box, argues that constraints are what make people and companies better. Kipp puts that to the test against the reality of marketing in 2026: infinite tools, infinite output, and a growing pile of AI slop nobody reads. What follows is a set of exercises real teams use to think before they build: write the press release first, prototype the box before the product, ask "if we had half the budget, how would we do it," run a subtraction audit every quarter, and treat AI as the second step, never the first. WHAT WE COVER:→ Why "think fast, act slow" is the pattern behind most failed projects (16,000 of them)→ How Pixar keeps directors in story development for years, on purpose→ Tony Fadell's rule: write the press release at the start, not the end→ The Nest box test: if it doesn't fit on the box, it's not a priority→ Why the internet stripped marketing of its healthy constraints→ Getting the pain up front so it doesn't cost you 10x later→ Nobody wants a drill, they want a hole (and AI is a broom with a laser pointer)→ The feature-dump epidemic and why simplicity wins in a world of abundance→ Why everyone assumes you already know what they know→ Explore vs exploit: how Range and Inside the Box fit together→ What to say to a team that says "we're not resourced for this"→ How NASA found water on the Moon with half the budget→ Why Amazon forces frugality on people with unlimited money→ Brooks' Law: adding people to a late project makes it later→ The legacy constraint: "if we were going out of business in two years"→ Kipp's reboot question (teams would stop 80% of what they do)→ Sunk cost, design freeze, and the featuritis that sank US shipbuilding→ HipChat vs Slack and the difference between sunk cost and opportunity cost→ How David actually uses AI (and why he doesn't write with it)→ AI is GPS for your brain: the early research on AI and learning→ Brain first, tool second: the rule that stops AI slop→ What an "AI slob" is and how to know if you're one→ The subtraction audit: cut one thing every quarter Host: Kipp BodnarGuest: David Epstein, author of Range, The Sports Gene, and Inside the Box: How Constraints Make Us Better Loop: Outlearn. Fresh off the first Cascadia Men's Conference, I'm pleased to share my first long-form podcast episode in some months. Right now, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is storming around the world, a $1.3 billion phenomenon that has returned one of humanity's oldest stories to the center of our cultural conversation. My guest today is a man who has been steeping in this epic for years. Phil Cousineau is the author of newly published ‘The Wisdom of the Odyssey: Twenty-four Life Lessons from Homer's Epic' and more than forty other books, including the bestselling The Art of Pilgrimage and The Hero's Journey: Joseph Campbell on His Life and Work. He is a writer, teacher, and storyteller who has consulted on myth and story for Warner Brothers, Pixar, and Lucasfilm, led mythology travel programs to Greece for more than three decades, and hosted the PBS television series Global Spirit. In our conversation, Phil invites us to look at why The Odyssey has risen once again. He suggests the epic poem is Western culture's first articulated case of PTSD and the consequence of war and conquest. We speak of the women who guide Odysseus back to himself, the terror of crossing your own threshold after twenty years away, and what it means when love rather than fame becomes the gravity that pulls a man home.Phil reminds us that the Odyssey is everybody's story, and the courage required to bend down and kiss the earth in gratitude for the chance to begin again. Here in full is the Rumi poem I reference (translated by Haleh Liza Gafori)LOVE, YOUR waters, your melodieswhirl me and whirl me.I'm the wheel in a mill.Whirl me forever. When my heart is troubled, when my heart has fled, keep me close. No branch, no leaf, no piece of straw drawn to amberwill move without a breeze.Unless desire stirs it, nothing in this world will dance.Every element, every particle of every elementis a whirling lover, drunk on union. The generous host lays out a feast.Animals graze the sweet grass.Didn't the ants tell secrets to Solomon?Didn't the mountains singwhen David sang his songs of praise? The sky is your lover.Lay your head on its peaceful chest. The sun is your lover. Drink its light.Love moves through every mountain and field. How else would green grow from earth's dark body?LINKS * Phil Cousineau - Official Website* The Wisdom of the Odyessy - BookHeads up, if you are a man seeking to explore the mythopoetic path, you are invited to check out The Archetypal Compass. This mini-guide is designed to help you navigate the internal archetypes of the soul, providing a map for those ready to move beyond personal inquiry and toward a more conscious stewardship of their lives and the world. Also, the next cohort of The Deep Masculine, my 3 month online journey for men begins Sept 20th. Join a mythic brotherhood aimed at re-patterning your relationship to sex, soul and purpose.SHOW NOTES00:04 — Quebec and Detroit Roots: Phil traces his ancestry to Jean Baptiste Cousineau, one of the nine founding families of Montreal, and his mythic upbringing in Detroit.00:06 — A Family of Readers: Growing up reading Homer, Grimm, and Canadian folk tales aloud together, and the inherited practice of read, pilgrimage, and the Long Conversation.00:10 — The Odyssey Sketched: A whirlwind through the enchantment at Olympus, the judgment of Paris, Helen, and the 1,156 ships sailing for Troy.00:16 — The First Documented PTSD: Why Odysseus is arguably history's first case of post-traumatic stress, and why a soldier cannot go straight home from war.00:22 — The Bard Scene: On the island of Phaeacia, when Odysseus hears his story sung, takes it back, and the healing begins.00:25 — Why Myths Rise Again: James Baldwin on reading as the antidote to unprecedented pain, and why myths that never happened are always happening.00:33 — The Masculine Arc: From the hunger for kleos (glory) to being pulled home by eros (love), and the grief of men who have achieved everything yet feel lost.00:39 — Polytropos: What it means that Odysseus is "many-turning" — the colossal, radical act of a man capable of changing his mind.00:42 — The Six Women: How Athena, Calypso, Circe, Nausicaa, Eurycleia, and Penelope guide Odysseus home, making the epic the world's first romance.00:46 — Achilles in the Underworld: The axis mundi where glory confronts the choice for one more day of sunshine over eternal fame.00:52 — Gratitude and Kissing the Earth: On Rumi, Coleman Barks, and Odysseus bending down to kiss the beach as literature's first grateful male hero.00:56 — The Beggar's Return: Odysseus comes home not in triumph but humbled, bent, and listening — a diminishment that is actually a deepening.01:06 — Nolan's Ending vs. the Greek Original: Why sailing away into the sunset is American Western mythology, not a Greek ending, and what the film sacrifices.01:10 — Talking Until Dawn: Penelope's fierce "My heart can take it" and the moment husband and wife talk and listen to each other until dawn.01:13 — The Wisdom of the Odyssey: Phil's new book, recommended translations by Lattimore and Emily Wilson, and upcoming mythology tours to Greece. Disney Parks Podcast Show #936- D23 Experences Recap 2026 This week, we cover the latest Disney Parks news, including:
In this episode, Chris Cochrane guest-hosts for his brother Ray and devotes the whole show to one event: Disney’s D23 2026 fan convention in Anaheim. Friday night delivered Marvel’s new X-Men cast, Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, a fresh Avengers: Doomsday trailer, and a release date for Frozen 3. Saturday turned to the parks, with Villains Land, an Indiana Jones dark ride, the long-awaited Expedition Everest yeti repair, and a Monsters Inc land opening in 2027. – Want to start a podcast? Instead of six or eight unrelated stories, the entire episode covers Disney’s D23 convention, which he compares to Apple’s WWDC. For newcomers, he notes that D23 is Disney’s official fan club, named for the company’s founding year of 1923. This year’s event ran two nights at the Honda Center: Friday for movies and television, Saturday for the theme parks. Marvel Finally Casts the X-Men Friday’s headline was the X-Men. The Associated Press put the crowd near 12,000, and Marvel Studios used that stage to name its rebooted team. Christopher Abbott plays Professor Charles Xavier, Inde Navarrette plays Rogue, and Maya Boyd plays Storm. Adam Driver rounds out the group as the villain Mister Sinister. Meanwhile, Samara Weaving, Kit Connor, and Sadie Sink were already known as Emma Frost, Cyclops, and Jean Grey. Jake Schreier directs, and the film arrives May 5, 2028. Chris calls the lineup spot-on casting. He singles out Weaving as a perfect match for the comics, and he points out that Sink already appeared as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Navarrette is the least established name, coming off a breakout role in an indie horror film. Boyd, meanwhile, was the name he knew least, with what he believes is a Broadway background. Above all, Chris hopes Marvel does the team justice, and he recommends the animated revival X-Men ’97 on Disney+ as the best place to start. Frozen 3 Gets a Date and a Chaotic Reveal Frozen 3 lands November 24, 2027. That is the Wednesday of Thanksgiving week, the same slot the first two films used. The story centers on Anna and Kristoff’s wedding, which a new villain, an evil Ice Queen, disrupts. Jennifer Lee returns to direct with Trent Correy, and the full voice cast is back. However, the reveal itself fell apart. Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel performed a darker arrangement of “Frozen Heart.” Meanwhile, the audio failed, the video failed, and a set of doors never opened. Menzel asked the crowd whether they should try it again, and Bell simply narrated everything that was supposed to happen. Afterward, Josh Gad sang “Oooh, Samantha,” a new love song for Olaf. Chris is here for it, since Olaf is one of the franchise’s best comic characters. Pixar, Disney Animation, and the Rest of Friday Night Pixar chief Pete Docter laid out a packed slate. Incredibles 3 hits summer 2028 and follows Violet and Dash sneaking out at night to fight crime. Chris hopes that finally shows a grown-up Jack-Jack. Coco 2 follows in November 2029 with Benjamin Bratt returning as Ernesto de la Cruz. That has fans puzzling over how a villain already in the Land of the Dead comes back. Additionally, Pixar showed an original called Ghost Market and a Venice-set cat film called Gatto. On the Disney Animation side, Zootopia 3 is confirmed. The live-action Tangled arrives March 31, 2028 with Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel. Chris considers that casting perfect after her turn in Agatha All Along. A live-action Lilo & Stitch sequel, a new Simpsons movie, a Bluey movie, and a Kingdom Hearts anime series round out the list. For Star Wars fans, Ahsoka returns January 20, 2027. Chris also offers a hot take: he prefers Rogue One to the entire sequel trilogy. Consequently, he welcomes original stories like Ryan Gosling’s upcoming Starfighter. Adam Driver Is Mister Sinister Driver appeared by video rather than in person. He told the crowd that he and Kevin Feige had talked for years about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Then he announced he would play Magneto. After a long pause, he corrected himself to Nathaniel Milbury, which is Mister Sinister’s human alias. The gag landed because fans had floated Driver for Magneto for years. For anyone new to the comics, Chris explains that Mister Sinister is a geneticist obsessed with mutant DNA, a manipulator rather than a brawler. The cast met backstage only minutes earlier, so Chris is curious how their chemistry develops. Notably, Christopher Abbott previously worked with Driver on HBO’s Girls. The script comes from Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo, two prestige-television names that have Chris excited. Why the X-Men Took Thirty Years to Reach the MCU A business story underlies the casting. In the 1990s, a financially struggling Marvel sold film rights to raise cash. Fox ended up with the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, and Sony took Spider-Man. As a result, Marvel Studios built its connected universe from 2008 onward without some of its most famous characters. The Hugh Jackman era of X-Men films belonged to Fox, with a separate continuity and no crossovers. That changed in 2019, when Disney closed its $71 billion purchase of 21st Century Fox’s film and television studio. Most coverage framed the deal as a streaming play, but it also brought the X-Men home. Chris sums it up neatly: Disney signed the paperwork in 2019, cast the film in 2026, and audiences see it in 2028. Ryan Gosling’s Starfighter, Ghost Rider, and VisionQuest Lucasfilm dated Star Wars: Starfighter for May 28, 2027. Gosling plays Kade Auberon, a pilot from the wrong side of the galaxy tied to the fastest starfighter ever built. Before he walked out, Disney played clips of him as a kid on The Mickey Mouse Club. Gosling said the company changed his life then and is changing it again now. He is also playing Ghost Rider in the Marvel universe. That thrills Chris, since Nicolas Cage last carried the character on the big screen. Meanwhile, the Disney+ series VisionQuest arrives October 14. Paul Bettany returns as Vision and James Spader as Ultron, and the trailer drops the two androids into oddly mundane human situations. Bettany joked that Vision has “rather inconveniently died several times.” Chris agrees the character has been through the wringer since WandaVision. The Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18, with Joe and Anthony Russo directing. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell introduced the new footage. It offers the clearest look yet at Downey as Doctor Doom, who fights off Thor and takes his hammer. Evans appears as Captain America holding a baby, and Ian McKellen shows up as a haggard, long-haired Magneto. One quieter shot has Doom staring at a portrait of a lost wife and child. That frames him as a grieving avenger rather than a world-ender. He also commands an army of comic-accurate Sentinels. The cast pulls from the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the legacy Fox X-Men, including Patrick Stewart. Hugh Jackman also appeared on screen to say he is willing to return as Wolverine, though that was not a confirmation. Chris, a self-described Marvel nerd, closes with a theory. He suspects the MCU’s Tony Stark was actually Victor von Doom, adopted by the Starks, which would explain the Downey casting. He also predicts the Fox-era X-Men die off in this film and that Thor may be the major casualty. If it happens, he wants credit for calling it. Disney Parks Around the World Saturday’s Disney Experiences showcase covered parks, resorts, and cruise ships, with Neil Patrick Harris hosting. Hong Kong Disneyland gets an Avengers pavilion that reshapes its Stark Expo skyline. Shanghai Disneyland is building the first land devoted entirely to Spider-Man, complete with a new coaster. Since Spider-Man is his favorite hero, Chris hopes to visit once it opens. Closer to home, Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure is doubling in size with two rides opening in 2028. Avengers: Infinity Defense brings back Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth, and Downey, while Stark Flight Lab adds Brie Larson. A Coco boat ride into the Land of the Dead is also coming, with no height requirement. Chris admits he prefers California Adventure to Disneyland because the rides are better. Overseas, Disneyland Paris will retire its Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain overlay at the end of 2027 and restore the original Jules Verne theme. Paris also gets the first ride ever based on The Lion King. Tokyo Disneyland adds Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, the first Wreck-It Ralph ride, plus a Space Mountain launch sequence designed with YouTuber Mark Rober. Finally, Disney Cruise Line announced three more ships, including the Disney Believe in 2027 and an entirely new class in 2029. Back in Anaheim, Tomorrowland is getting reimagined, which Chris welcomes because the land badly needs an update. The Magic Happens parade and the Remember Dreams Come True fireworks are both returning. For the tech crowd, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run now has a Fortnite crossover, where in-game missions unlock content on the real ride. Every New Walt Disney World Ride and Land Chris ranks the Florida parks Hollywood Studios first, then Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom leads the announcements with Villains Land, now the official name. It features a Maleficent coaster through an enchanted briar and a boat ride through the Evil Queen’s catacombs. Reporting puts its scale near Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and Glenn Close appeared in character as Cruella to announce it. Piston Peak, the Cars area replacing Tom Sawyer Island, adds two more rides, though their exact names remain unsettled. Additionally, the Carousel of Progress gets new scenes and a recast. Jamie Lee Curtis and Bryan Cranston will voice Mom and Dad starting late spring 2027. Chris, invoking Heisenberg, calls Cranston the GOAT. At Animal Kingdom, the Indiana Jones ride now has a name: Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. It tells an original 1950 story inside a Maya temple, and Harrison Ford personally served as the physical model for the animatronic. Nearby, the Tropical Americas land brings Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, with more than fifty animal animatronics and no height requirement. Then comes the fix park regulars have wanted for years. The Expedition Everest yeti broke soon after the ride opened. Rather than fix it, Disney lit it with a strobe for over a decade, earning the nickname disco yeti. Now it is being repaired and returned to full motion. Chris rates Everest among his top five rides anywhere, and he suggests riding it before the fix so you can compare. Over at Epcot, Spaceship Earth gets its first major story rewrite in nearly twenty years, shifting from communication history to human connection. Dreamfinder also returns to Journey Into Imagination, and Disney Experiences chairman Thomas Mazloum introduced that news with two words: “we heard you.” Mazloum added that Disney has more projects underway than at any point in its history. After this rundown, Chris believes him. Monsters Inc Land Opens in 2027 Monstropolis begins opening at Hollywood Studios in early 2027, but in stages. The headline door coaster will not be ready on day one. It is the first suspended coaster in any Disney park. It also uses Disney’s first vertical lift, hauling riders about forty feet straight up before launching them into the door vault. Instead, the land opens with the Glob Theater’s “Welcome to Monstropolis” show and Harryhausen’s, a working sushi restaurant lifted from the first film. The stage show features an original song by Randy Newman, his first ever written for a theme park attraction. Chris also notes that the restaurant name honors stop-motion legend Ray Harryhausen. Wrapping up, Chris names the X-Men casting and the Doomsday trailer as his favorite moments of the weekend. He hopes to cover more movie news on future shows, and he plugs Dune: Part Three, which also opens December 18. Chris signs off with the usual mentions: GNC Insider at geeknewscentral.com/insider, email at geeknews@gmail.com, the newsletter, and modern podcast apps at podcastapps.com. He also thanks GoDaddy for over twenty years of support. The post Huge Announcements From D23!! #1873 appeared first on Geek News Central.

Ben Butcher spent nearly three decades helping shape some of the most recognizable entertainment brands in the world, including five years at Disney, twelve at Pixar, and ten as SVP of Creative at Funko. Then he decided to build something of his own.On this episode of YES, BRAND, Hersh Rephun sits down with Ben, founder and CEO of Kaleidos Creative, an artist-led company creating original characters, stories, and intellectual property from the ground up.The challenge is radically different. At Disney, Pixar, and Funko, the audience already existed. The characters already carried meaning. At Kaleidos, Ben and his team have to create that connection before anyone knows what the characters are supposed to mean.Hersh and Ben explore how beloved brands can eventually become trapped by their own history, why creative freedom still has to coexist with commercial reality, and what changes when an artist moves from contributing to someone else's world to becoming responsible for the whole thing. They also get into AI, and Ben offers a refreshingly human reason Kaleidos has chosen not to build its creative process around it: the messy middle is the part they actually love. The mistakes, experimentation, collaboration, and evolution are not inefficiencies to eliminate. They are the creative experience itself. At its heart, this episode asks:What happens when someone who spent decades building other people's worlds finally decides to create one of his own?https://kaleidoscreative.com/--Hersh's new book, SELLING THE TRUTH: A ‘Semoir' with Insights for Life & Business is a semi memoir drawing on his adventures as an Authority Advisor and Standup Comedian. It is part business book, part happiness formula for life, and an amuseful read, whether you're building a business or burnishing your self-image.You can kickstart your own messaging evolution with a one-on-one 5-Minute Fix.Take the 60-second Get Off Your Assets Quiz, and find other resources here: https://www.hershrephun.com/selling-the-truth/
Skywalking Through Neverland: A Star Wars / Disney Fan Podcast
We've now completed our convention-season trifecta with D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, so it's time to share our experiences with you. There were so many exciting moments that we had to split our D23 coverage into two episodes. Held at the Anaheim Convention Center, this three-day celebration is the epicenter of Disney fandom, and features three huge presentations at the 14,000-seat Honda Center. In this episode, we will cover Friday's Disney Entertainment Showcase, spotlighting upcoming films and television projects from Disney, Lucasfilm, Pixar, and Marvel; as well as our favorite personal moments of the convention - was there a life-changing moment that happened on the Spotlight Stage with Ashley Eckstein and Susan Egan?? Listen and find out!! We're joined by a fantastic group of friends for this roundtable discussion: Joey Pittman of the Disney Universe Podcast and longtime Skywalkers Courtney and Kelly Turckel. We also welcome Amanda, Kevin, and Kim from Where in the Park seek-and-find game and podcast for their Skywalking Through Neverland debut! Next episode, our D23 coverage continues with reactions to the Disney Experiences Showcase, the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony, and—of course—all that merchandise! And don't worry - we haven't forgotten about Rebel Scum Con - we will still share all of our interviews with Star Wars celebrities within the next month of podcast episodes. Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes. At D23 last week, Disney's fan event showcasing much of their upcoming film and tv projects, we were at last treated to a full trailer for VisionQuest, which will debut October 14 on Disney+. The third and final installment of the trilogy that includes WandaVision and Agatha All Along, VisionQuest looks like it will send us on a trippy ride with The Vision, played by Paul Bettany. Those of us angsting for Avengers: Doomsday story crumbs were also treated with a special look presented for the December blockbuster. The shorter trailer, which was first shown at San Diego Comic Con, starts with dialogue from Sue Storm, indicating our MCU Fantastic Four team is connected to Robert Downey, Jr.'s Victor von Doom. One of the most anticipated announcements in MCU history took place at D23, when Marvel Studios exec Kevin Feige announced the cast of the upcoming X-Men film. The cast includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver will be playing the villainous Mr. Sinister. The movie will be released on May 5, 2028 nearly 10 years after the Disney acquisition of Fox Studios and will kick off the three MCU movies coming out in 2028. The other big nerd-dom announcement at D23 was the release of a first trailer for Ahsoka season 2, which will premiere on January 20, 2027, on Disney+. Lars Mikkelson's Thrawn returns as the big bad for the Rebel Alliance, while in a galaxy truly far, far, away, Ahsoka and Sabine battle themselves and mystic threats while coming face to face with what it means to be a Jedi. This look at the show may clue us in as to why the debut date got pushed to next year. Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling were also at D23 where a clip from Star Wars: Starfighter was shown, but has not yet been released publicly.Peacock has released the first trailer for season 2 of The Office spin off The Paper. The full season drops on September 9. At D23, Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed to Deadline that Johnny Depp is in early talks to reprise his role as Jack Sparrow in an upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean reboot. Sources also emphasize that Depp will serve as a side character, not a central character in the upcoming film. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has passed the $2 billion dollar mark after just 3 weeks in theaters, becoming the eighth film in history to hit the benchmark. The film is the second fastest to hit this mark only behind Avengers: Endgame. At D23, Disney offered up the first look at the live action adaptation of Tangled, which stars Teagan Croft, Milo Manheim, and Kathryn Hahn. The studio also announced a release date of March 31, 2028. Hayden Panettiere, known for her roles on shows such as Heroes and Nashville has died at the age of 36. At D23, Pixar showed off some very early concept art for Incredibles 3 and Coco 2. Incredibles 3 will debut on June 16, 2028 and Coco 2 is currently set for a November 2029 release. HBO has announced a season 2 renewal for It: Welcome to Derry, the It prequel series from Warner Bros. Television and executive producers Andy and Barbara Muschietti. At D23, Disney showed some early images of the live action Lilo & Stitch 2, which currently has a release date of May 28, 2028.

Time to roll out the red carpet because this week Summers Off welcomes movie royality - Pixar. We're watching the stunning, coming-of-age classic, Brave. As you've already guessed it, you'll be treated to many dialect attempts of the highlands. We'll compare our favorite Scottish films and histories. Ty will once and for all learn what makes a Disney film vs. a Pixar film. Rach will divulge a kink on air. And Ty and Rach rank the best and most overrated Pixar films of all time. Surprise - it's not Planes!

I razz him for using "brutally honest" in descriptions of two separate projects, but I love Brandon Ogborn. I know the comedian, playwright, podcaster, and reluctant "content creator" from our days on the same improv team at iO Chicago, Sports Team. Reminiscing about that time is the closest I get to nostalgia, and even then, Bubba had stories that made all our eyes pop out of our skulls. He's continued to amass stories as a parent of two young kids he makes fun of on Instagram, and now he's turned his parenting and growing up stories into a one-man stage show, SAHD (Stay-At-Home Dad). It's a funny, personal piece full of heart and the idiosyncrasies that make Brandon such a joy to know. You should see it in L.A. if you can (details below). Either way, enjoy this little slice of Brandon. We talk about: his dead dad, ADHD, growing up Christian nationalist in the Midwest, out-of-body experiences vs. astral projection, people outgrowing homophobia, the accuracy of Pixar's Soul, reckoning with the statistical unlikelihood of Hollywood success. Also, there is one f-slur and a very quick mention of child sexual abuse. This Is Your Afterlife is made possible by listeners like you on Patreon. Anthony Bourdain, whose early experience working in a restaurant kitchen is chronicled in the new biopic Tony, once singled out Ratatouille as Hollywood’s best depiction of working in a restaurant kitchen, which is all the invitation we need to revisit Brad Bird’s 2007 Pixar classic. So this week, with the help of Vulture critic Roxana Hadadi, we consider how Ratatouille trusts its viewers to accept an audacious premise, and rewards them in emotional payoff; parse the nuances and contradictions of its “anyone can cook” mantra; and lament that its lone female character of consequence falls victim to Trinity Syndrome. And yes, of course this group of critics has some thoughts on Anton Ego and the film’s take on criticism. Then in Feedback, we discuss a short excerpt from a much longer, in-depth analysis we received in response to our O Brother Where Art Thou? episode. Show Notes This week we learn that sometimes even great minds go terribly terribly wrong as we watch Pixar's The Good Dinosaur. You've never heard of it, well all the better for you. Dinos have become agrarians and people have become dogs and every goofy animated character sits on a background that is so beautifully rendered that it is difficult to tell it isn't real. It's unclear why this movie was made - but it sure was. When should governments slow the race toward superintelligence? According to Geoffrey Irving, the careful answer is sometime in the past. The useful answer is now.Geoffrey — formerly a safety researcher at OpenAI and Google DeepMind and chief scientist at the UK AI Security Institute — expects full-blown superintelligence in roughly two to three years.***Want to work with Geoffrey to help align superintelligence? Resolution is hiring! https://80k.info/work-at-resolution***The leading AI companies all have broadly similar plans for keeping superintelligence under control:Train models to have good characterUse increasingly capable AIs to supervise other AIsMonitor them closely for signs of deception or schemingGeoffrey thinks that combination could work. The alarming part is that nobody has a strong argument that it will. He expects a crucial “phase shift” as models move beyond human intelligence:Below that threshold, humans can usually tell whether a model's work is good and correct its mistakes.Above it, the models themselves will increasingly determine the feedback used to train their successors. In this episode, Geoffrey and new host Tom Reed explore what might go wrong with the companies' plans; why Geoffrey's new nonprofit, Resolution, is pursuing a portfolio of neglected research bets; and whether governments should slow AI development while we work out which methods can actually be trusted. This episode was recorded on June 29, 2026.Full transcript, video, and links to learn more: https://80k.info/giChapters:Cold open (00:00:00)Meet Tom Reed — our newest host! Some reptiles have a reputation for being aggressive, difficult, or even dangerous—but how much of it is actually true? This week, we're putting some of the reptile world's biggest stereotypes to the test as we decide which reputations are completely deserved, only partially true, or totally misunderstood. From tokay geckos and reticulated pythons to chameleons and more, we're sharing our thoughts on where these reputations came from and whether they're actually fair. Before we get into the debate, we chat about the yellow tiger salamander featured in the new Toy Story movie and what we thought about seeing an amphibian make its Pixar debut. To wrap things up, it's time for another round of Smash or Pass, where we're ranking all things summer—from kayaking and paddleboarding to water parks, tubing, and everything in between.Whether you're here to defend your favorite reptile or just enjoy a fun summer debate, this episode has a little something for everyone!Get early access to episodes: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-wild-type-podcast/subscribeFollow the podcast: - https://www.instagram.com/thewildtypepodcast/- https://www.tiktok.com/@thewildtypepodcast- Merch: https://the-wild-type-podcast-llc-shop.fourthwall.com/Follow Neptune the Chameleon:- https://www.youtube.com/c/NeptunetheChameleon/- http://instagram.com/neptunethechameleon- https://tiktok.com/@neptunethechameleon- http://facebook.com/neptunethechameleon- https://www.neptunethechameleon.comFollow Lyssa's Lizards:- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmZaN6Q4yOt1j36J0-Ml6LQ- https://www.instagram.com/lyssaslizards- https://www.tiktok.com/@lyssaslizards- https://m.facebook.com/p/Lyssas-Lizards-100064470381677/- https://www.lyssaslizards.comSponsors:- https://www.pangeareptile.com/wildtype- https://symtonbsf.com/- https://reptilekages.com/- https://thebiodude.com/- https://arcadiareptile.com/?utm_source=the_wild_type&utm_medium=podcast

In today's episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek, brought to you by LMNT, we are joined by Steven of My Life Outdoors, a gear-obsessed backpacker who grew his YouTube channel to over 1.2 million subscribers through high-production gear breakdowns and hands-on science experiments. In this one, we dive into Steven's emotional year supporting his wife through three separate cancer diagnoses, her rare complete response to immunotherapy, and the story of how Luke Nichols from Outdoor Boys randomly gifted him a fully-edited video to keep his channel afloat during the crisis. Steven also breaks down some of his most popular videos, including the custom rain chamber he build to prove that GORE-TEX jackets do in fact leach forever chemicals. We also cover his quest for "true silence" that led him to anechoic chambers and the remote borders of Big Bend National Park, the logistics of building a winter quinzhee, and the counterintuitive thermodynamics of wearing fishnet base layers in freezing weather. We wrap the show with a last call to RSVP for our upcoming Seattle Hiker Meetup, a breakdown of how to get from the Denver airport to Waterton Canyon on the cheap, Peg Leg's list of trail foods she never gets tired of, a Question of the Day deciding between one day in Ancient Egypt vs one spent with aliens, a Triple Crown of our favorite Disney and Pixar movies, and a mailbag serving as a Durston Gear ad. In 1984, the Walt Disney Company was worth more dead than alive. Disney Animation — the heart of Walt's famous flywheel — had stagnated for years, bleeding away talent while corporate raiders circled, salivating over offers to sell off the film library to MGM and offload the parks to hotel operators. But what followed instead was the greatest turnaround in media history under Michael Eisner and Frank Wells. Beauty and the Beast. The Lion King. Broadway. Bringing the Disney Vault home on VHS and DVD. And the greatest media acquisition of all time — ESPN.And then... it all almost fell apart. Again. Euro Disney turned into a money pit. Boardroom and executive infighting ran rampant. Animation descended into a dumpster fire. (Remember Chicken Little? Us neither.) Comcast — Comcast!! — tried to steal the company via a hostile takeover. Out of the chaos, a new generation of Disney management emerged under Bob Iger to stage yet another epic comeback with Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm, creating the defining media empire of the 21st century…until the tech companies came along. Google underwent a big AI shakeup this week, leaving a lot of people wondering whether there are big problems on team Gemini. David and Nilay start the show by discussing what's next for Jeff Dean and Demis Hassabis, before diving into the ways in which Google and Reddit have become existentially, problematically dependent on one another. After that, we talk through Disney's plan to turn Disney Plus into an everything app, and all the reasons we think that's a terrible idea and a sign of big problems in the streaming biz. Finally, in the lightning round, Brendan Carr is still a dummy, Snapchat wants AI out of your feed, and BMW has a Spider-Man to sell you. Jim and Lauren examine Disney's decision to move Consumer Products under the studio umbrella and what it reveals about the company's larger “One Disney” strategy. They explore how films such as Toy Story 5 can generate value far beyond the box office through streaming, merchandise, and long-term franchise growth. The conversation also covers Disney's new NFL merchandise collection before Jim concludes his three-part history of Disney's Contemporary Resort, from its Mary Blair mural and Top of the World restaurant to Bay Lake Tower and the expansion of Disney Vacation Club. NEWS • Why Disney is moving Consumer Products closer to its film studios. • How merchandise, streaming, and box office results combine to measure the true value of Disney intellectual property. • Disney's NFL collection pairs all 32 teams with characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. • Woody joins the Dallas Cowboys, Captain America represents the New England Patriots, and Darth Vader meets the Las Vegas Raiders. • Lauren and Jim suggest Disney character pairings for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles. FEATURE • How the Contemporary Resort developed an identity around its monorail, architecture, and towering Mary Blair mural. • The rise and fall of the Gulf Coast Room, Top of the World, Broadway at the Top, and the Fiesta Fun Center. • Why Disney added Bay Lake Tower and continued expanding Disney Vacation Club around the Magic Kingdom monorail loop. • The construction challenges that still shape the Contemporary Resort and Disney's plans near the Transportation and Ticket Center. French Rizz has officially landed in Paris... and immediately started taking the worst tourist photos in recorded history. While Rizz enjoys croissants, wine, and accidentally inventing "half-photo tourism," the rest of the crew takes over the studio and proves that absolutely nothing can stay on the rails for very long.Moon discovers that having an empty house sounds a lot more relaxing than it actually is, because apparently sitting still for more than six minutes causes immediate guilt. King Scott earns legitimate homeowner points by repairing his own dryer, immediately becoming every Midwest dad's favorite person. Lern shares the highs and lows of Copper Fire's latest show, where technical problems forced the band to improvise through feedback, monitor speakers, and pure determination. Sometimes rock and roll isn't glamorous... sometimes it's just hoping the audience sticks around anyway. Then Rafe returns from San Antonio with what may become one of the show's all-time travel stories. Between Southwest Airlines delays, airport complaints, Pee-wee Herman's bike inside the Alamo museum, and a confession involving the Alamo that definitely deserves its own historical plaque, the crew spends way too much time debating what actually counts as "peeing at the Alamo." It's exactly the kind of discussion you'd expect from your favorite daily comedy show.As if that wasn't enough, Taco Bell's lettuce lawsuit continues to grow, the crew debates whether $200 is enough compensation for catastrophic fast-food regret, someone steals thousands of dollars worth of Little Debbie snacks, Martha Stewart accidentally provides some unforgettable sound bites during National Grab Some Nuts Day, and everyone shares the snacks they secretly keep stocked around the studio.Throw in conversations about French vacations, delayed flights, NBA jerseys, the St. Louis Riverfront, fashion rankings, summer heat making everyone older, and the usual nonstop roasting between friends, and you've got another completely normal episode of The Rizzuto Show—which, of course, means absolutely nothing about it is normal. One hundred episodes in and somehow we've reached peak Rizz Show chaos. One mysterious coffee cake delivery instantly derails the entire morning as the crew debates legendary Missouri bakeries, family traditions, suspiciously delicious pastries, and whether one slice is enough motivation to break a Guinness World Record for push-ups. (Spoiler: probably not.)The gang dives into Ariana Grande taking a well-earned break after an exhausting run of performances while discussing the line between public concern and respecting someone's privacy. Then it's onto the latest mystery surrounding Slipknot's Sid Wilson, Smashing Pumpkins celebrating a massive hometown moment at Lollapalooza, William Shatner somehow becoming a heavy metal performer at 95, and a look back at one of television's most unforgettable characters.Movie lovers get plenty to chew on too. Spider-Man continues dominating theaters, Barbie 2 hits development roadblocks, and the crew wonders why Hollywood keeps rebooting everything instead of taking chances on original stories. Along the way they revisit cult classics, argue about the greatest television series ever made, celebrate indie filmmaking, and somehow end up ranking the most scientifically accurate disaster movies ever filmed. Because naturally that's where breakfast conversations lead. The laughs don't stop there. There's an ongoing push-up debate, questionable workout motivation involving coffee cake crumbs, "Back in the Day" history lessons, celebrity birthdays, bizarre Hollywood stories, ridiculous hypotheticals, and the kind of sarcastic banter that somehow turns every topic into comedy. With Rizz celebrating his birthday overseas, the gang decides that "Happy Birthday" is officially retired and immediately begins brainstorming the next long-term psychological prank. The mission? Convince him that everyone has always celebrated Happy Bastille Day, Rizz. The debate spirals into Mandela Effects, alternate realities, and enough gaslighting to make even the French question reality.Meanwhile, breakfast becomes an Olympic event as four boxes of donuts disappear at alarming speed while pre-workout somehow enters the equation. The crew debates whether they're fueling up for the gym or an emergency nap, and honestly nobody ever figures it out. Then comes one of the most unpredictable rounds of "3 in 5" in recent memory. Listeners battle through categories ranging from beans and famous vampires to Pixar movies, breakfast cereals, state capitals, and Tom Hanks films. Some contestants dominate. Others completely forget movies exist. Rules are forgotten. Rules are invented. Tickets are awarded anyway because apparently Charity Monday is alive and well. The conversation also dives into birthday bash planning, exclusive birthday beer names, concert giveaways, and plenty of classic Rizz Show side quests that somehow become funnier than the original topic. It is exactly the kind of organized chaos fans expect from a funny morning show that refuses to stay on script.Whether you're here for ridiculous games, sarcastic humor, listener interactions, or simply watching adults argue about whether "Happy Bastille Day" is a perfectly normal greeting, this episode delivers another unforgettable daily comedy podcast. If you're new here, welcome to the weird corner of the internet where logic takes the day off and everyone somehow leaves happier than they arrived.
